"GameFreak is what's holding back Pokemon"
You asked and The Pokemon Company listened: presenting the first non-GameFreak core Pokemon game!
Tumblr media
It's a stripped down port remake that misunderstands the art direction of the classic that it salvages for nostalgia bait! Oh, you don't like this?
How about a heavily monetized version of Google Maps?
Tumblr media
Do you see what I'm saying here? Replacing GameFreak isn't going to give us better games. Without them, Pokemon will just hire the cheapest studio willing to make their soulless nostalgia bait. Pokemon's main profit comes from merch and that's all they need to sell it.
I know GameFreak is no victim, but I'm defending them because I don't want them to go away. They speak like they honestly love what they do, and I just don't want gamers to kill that.
Edit: ILCA isn't a bad studio, and Niantic...well that's a different can of worms. Also, I'm not talking about side ventures like Pokemon New Snap. There's no reason to rush that because the franchise doesn't depend on it. My point is, no matter what company they hire to make the games the franchise depends on, The Pokemon Company will rush them for their merchandise schedule.
Edited to remove the assertion that The Pokemon Company held back ILCA's vision for BDSP. As commenters pointed out, the source did not substantiate this claim.

The shiny hunting method called the Masuda method gained its name through fans. It’s named after Junichi Masuda, a co-founder of GameFreak, after he reported the method on his blog.
The Masuda method is when you breed 2 compatible pokemon from different regions, raising your odds of an egg hatching a shiny.

BDSP received two awards at the TGS Japan Game Awards 2022: Best Japanese Game of the Year and best selling of the year in Japan.
(It did sell really well, best selling of the remakes, but a lot of fans aren't particularly happy about this going by the QRTs and comments, with many pointing out how buggy it was on release.)
Not too happy with this myself. BDSP was such a waste of potential, especially with how much lore to DPPt Legends added. It really just wish that Legends came first, and that we would have seen a typical remake come after, rather than a faithful one. Then there was the lukewarm fan reception and how quickly talk of the game died down outside of bug exploits and romhacking/modding. (Some of them are pretty mind-blowing too.)

I'm sure plenty of fans enjoyed the games, especially younger players that hadn't had the opportunity to play the originals or more nostalgic fans since retro Pokémon games can be pretty expensive, but the waste of potential just killed it for me, and I hope they go by either the Legends format or ORAS format in doing future remakes. (All I'm just saying is that if we get a faithful remake of XY considering all the wasted potential they had and interesting elements left unfulfilled, it's gonna be so depressing 💀)

Since I’m STILL seeing people spread the “they said that they’d improve animations” misinformation around, I’m going to show off an article that explains what they actually said.
The rumor that there would be “improved animations” in Sword and Shield came from a mistranslated interview. Game Freak never said that they were going to “improve the animations.” They said that they were going to convert the rigs from old software to new software and they really didn’t want to do that for almost 900 Pokemon.
And when it turned out that they weren’t doing the thing that they never said that they were going to do, people started threatening Game Freak, Masuda, the official Pokemon Twitter account, and Pokemon Youtubers because they fell for misinformation.

Junichi Masuda & Shigeru Ohmori autographs
On December 19th 2014, I was surprised to receive Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori's autograph. Masuda has held several roles at GameFreak, including Producer, Director, Composer, and advisor to many Pokémon titles from Red/Green to the present day.
Ohmori has been a part of the Pokémon series since Ruby & Sapphire, with roles including Game Designer, Director and Producer.
An acquaintance kindly requested this for me around the launch of Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire in the United Kingdom.
