Something I've noticed in the Nevermoor series is that the couple times Jupiter finds Morrigan after she mysteriously went missing (like when Squall kidnapped her to Crow Manor in book one and when she woke up in the hospital at the end of Hollowpox), he gives her this big hug that shows he's just so relieved to find her and that she's okay. However, it seems like in his overwhelming relief, he forgets his own strength, because from Morrigan's perspective, his hugs are described as like bone crushing or so tight she almost can't breathe. (Or maybe it's just that Mog is small lol).

But in any case, I feel like - and I mean this in the most wholesome way possible - I would gladly let Jupiter crush every bone in my body if it meant getting a hug from him.

I need some serious Jupidad in my life, and I'd definitely sacrifice the ability to breathe for a few minutes for that.

MOMENTOUS MOMENT ALERT:

I’m about to start reading Nevermoor to the small human (aged 8 2/3).

The same Nevermoor that I re-read 6 times in 4 months (along with #2 and #3) because I LOVE IT SO HARD.

Genuinely a little scared - what if she doesn’t adore it as much as I do?

What if she becomes disillusioned with my very average parenting skills in comparison to the phenomenon that is Jupidad?

Guess we’ll never know until we try…

(This might also be the trigger for me to get back into my Jupidad thing… I)

When Jupiter finds out that Morrigan's training under Squall, I don't know if I want it to be a big, explosive argument. I feel like it would be so much more heart breaking if Jupiter just felt betrayed. Like "I'm not angry, I'm just disappointed". Jupiter and Morrigan stop talking as often while Jupiter cools down. She's not a witness, but she can read all the emotions he's feeling like a book. He's hurt, he's betrayed, he's angry, but most of all, he's terrified. Jack starts to pick up on their falling out because of his Witness abilities, but neither will say what it's about. It's one big Jupifamily angst arc because Jupiter and Morrigan are fighting and Jack doesn't know what's going on.

Dumping my nevermoor headcanons on you because even though nobody asked, I can't keep them to myself anymore.

Jack is aroace and Mog is an asexual lesbian (or maybe that's just me pushing myself into them lol)

Hawthorne gives off bisexual vibes and Cadence is a lesbian

Jack reads science fiction, and fantasy (he likes six of Crows) and he listens to classical music (favorite composer is Rachmaninoff or Litvinovsky) and surprisingly enough, Tom Lehrer, The Smiths, and Queen

Morrigan likes Mother Mother (even though she doesn't have one), I can't decide by the scissor sisters, and Melanie Martinez!

Jupiter secretly (he thinks nobody knows but literally everyone does) enjoys cooking as a hobby, Morrigan likes drawing, and Jack writes in his free time

Jack is having Arch teach him violin since he already knows to play the cello (it takes him a week before he gets used to it being up on his neck)

Cadence enjoys watching murder mysteries.

Thaddea loves watching cat videos even though she swears she doesn't

Hawthorne is ADHD (Hyper active in particular), Mog is autistic and her special interest is birds

Arch also plays the Viola (not just the violin) and often does small street performances

Francis has perfectionism issues because of his Aunt Hester

Lambeth has migraines from time to time due to her knack and lack of mastery over it

Mahir aspires to learn every dead language in existence before he dies

Anah watches atla, she-ra, and other 2d animated kids shows

Thaddea and Anah are dating (thaddea is a cat person and Anah is a dog person, there relation ship is literally butch4femme)

So yeah I said on my first Adoption!post that Jack would come to Nevermoor five years after Mog, but then I decided fuck it and he arrives only two years after Mog.

In this AU, Jack's parents sent him to live with his uncle, Jupiter, to help him deal with his knack, it was supposed to be only a matter of weeks or months, but then Jack's parents ended up dying, they were on an expedition for the League of Explorers and never came back.

So now Jack is living with his uncle and his very annoying toddler counsin.

I also think he is a very agressive kid due to his inexperience with his knack (Jupiter did say it could drive one crazy) so you can imagine how fun it is having both Jack and Morrigan Won't-Take-Shit-Crow on the same room.

If anyone wants to write a fic bout this concept, draw a fanart or anything like that PLEASE DO, im throwing this on the wild, go feral.

One of the most underrated but significant things about Morrigan's relationship to Jupiter is how even when everything is crazy and situations are even risky or straight up dangerous, she has always been able to say she trusts him. From their first meeting in Crow Manor to the end of Hollowpox (present), whenever she faces where her confidence truly is, she can always say she trusts him implicitly. And she has always told him so to his face with little to no hesitation.

Now imagine, just imagine, the pain, the absolute heartbreak if one day her growing, changing, impressionable inner being yields too much under nefarious influences, her fortress of confidence is cracked, and when he asks her like so many times before, "Do you trust me?" looking right into her soul with his tender, knowing blue eyes, and she comes face to face with deepest honesty and speaks the one earth-shattering word, "No." What if? Just, what if?

Can you imagine how much his heart would break? How he'd leave the room in a heavy silence of disappointment, because suddenly he's about to cry like never before and second guess everything he's ever done.

All the years and stress and investigation and work to rescue her and take care of her and to prove to one young Wundersmith that she is not a curse on anyone, all the care, the love, the late nights and early mornings he's sacrificed sleep to be involved in something important for her, the glowing hopes for who she's becoming - all reduced to the dust of disappointment with a word. Every trusting look exchanged between them, every affectionate interaction that made him almost forget she wasn't his own daughter - all crashing down like the pink sailing ship chandelier, only this time, it's his Crow that has broken.

And Morrigan - I'm sure she'd be at least a little hurt herself to realize it was true.

I hate it so much, but I'm somehow I'm afraid it might happen.

nevermoor as the office moments pt. 1!

recently rewatched the show and am a bit obsessed with it! this moment was very jupiter and I wanted to draw it :)

Best Jupidad Moments #1 Nevermoor - Ch 3 - The First Meeting

Figured I’d start to collate some of these in an attempt to analyse what it is that makes this the most beautiful father/daughter dynamic in fiction.

Herewith my ramblings (you have been warned…)

He stood with his feet wide apart and hands stuffed into trouser pockets, leaning casually against the doorframe as if he had spent half his life standing in that spot and couldn’t think of a place he felt more at home. As if he himself owned Crow Manor and the Crows were merely his dinner guests.

His eyes locked on to Morrigan’s. He grinned. ‘Hello, you.’

There’s something about how he says “you” here, rather than saying her name. It’s so familiar, so personal and it straightaway elevates her to the most important person in the room - he doesn’t NEED to say her name, it is obvious she is why he is there. It’s all about her now (whereas 5 mins ago even her ‘last meal’ was painfully NOT about her at all).

And he grins, probably nobody has ever looked at her and seemed happy before and I get the impression that people usually avoid looking at her at all (ref the fact she isn’t allowed to make eye contact). I feel this must be part of why she so quickly trusts him because he’s the first person ever to give her the impression her existence is a positive thing.

‘Mourn the death of your daughter?’ echoed Jupiter. He took two deliberate steps towards Corvus and paused, his eyes glittering. The hairs on Morrigan’s arms stood up. Jupiter’s voice dropped an entire octave, and he spoke with a cold, quiet anger that was terrible to behold. ‘Can you possibly mean the daughter standing right in front of you? The one who is demonstrably, superbly, brilliantly alive?’

Immediate shift to the other heart melting facet to our Jupidad - the protectiveness. We find out later he’s been watching her for a while and I really get a sense at this point that he is SO APPALLED with how callously she’s been treated her whole life.

Whereas Corvus appears unbothered by how his words impact his daughter, Jupiter is the opposite - despite the fact he isn’t speaking to her directly he picks his words for her benefit - “superbly” “brilliantly”. Bet she’s never heard them said about her before. He’s also underlining how superb and brilliant life itself is, hopefully giving her the courage to answer the next question…

Morrigan,’ said Jupiter, in a voice very different from the one he’d just used with her father. ‘Don’t you want to live?’ 

Morrigan flinched. What sort of a question was that? ‘It doesn’t matter what I want.’

‘It does,’ he insisted. ‘It matters so very, very much. Right now it’s the only thing that matters.’

He absolutely shifts tone when speaking to her - this isn’t a guy who loses the plot or can’t control his temper when he gets angry. He puts the very justifiable anger away and immediately replaces it with compassion.

He also doesn’t dismiss her feelings - he understands why she thinks the way she does but he doesn’t let her stay in that mindset. He doesn’t just tell her what to do, he doesn’t say “don’t be daft, we’ve got to run” but instead takes the time to help her realise she has the right to decide her own fate, because despite what she’s been told for 11 years what she thinks DOES matter.

And then he waits to hear the words from her, despite the Hunt closing in outside (who he knows will likely kill him too if he opposes them, he must be at least a little scared for himself as well as her).

I think that Jupiter is already chipping away at the abuse and lies that have defined Morrigan’s life and he’s only been in the room 10 mins.

The windows began to rattle. There was a faint smell of burning. ‘What’s that?’ She squeezed his hand automatically. ‘What’s happening?’ Jupiter leaned down to whisper in her ear. ‘Do you trust me?’ She answered without thinking. ‘Yes.’ ‘You sure?’ ‘Positive.’ ‘All right.’ He looked her in the eye.

And so she trusts him implicitly. She squeezes his hand like a little girl might her Daddy’s when she needs reassurance. If he hadn’t already demonstrated that he has her best interests firmly at heart it would have been weird that she does this so soon, but it isn’t because he has.

Again, he looks her in the eye.
