Was thinking about fic before bed and my brain fed met the most insane Kit/Jade AU in which Jade was secretly a werewolf and trying to hide it from Kit. And it culminated in the most dramatic scene, where [the danger] was happening and Jade looking directly into Kit’s eyes like, “Whatever happens, remember what I said. Remember that [the monster] was cursed, right? That [the atrocities] weren’t their fault. Remember that I love you.”

And Kit just like, “Yeah, yeah of course. I love you. What’s going to happen?”

side note, i saw the new jurassic world today and it was actually so good?? i loved it so much actually, i thought it was going to be corny. i feel like when movie franchises go on for so long, they start adding so many new characters and plot lines and it gets clogged up and recycled and tired, but this one didn’t really feel like that.

like they brought back the old characters but actually gave them depth and a story line, they didn’t just make them a face for the movie, and the new character kayla (THE ONE AND MF ONLY MS. NOVA DARLING), actually had some hints of a future in depth story line that could be so fun to learn and see. i haven’t seen many people talking about it yet, as it did just come out like yesterday, but i wanted to share my thoughts to my, one… two… three… four.. fi-, five whole followers 😁

some thoughts on dave lalonde

so note this isn’t a kidswap au, just a strilonde guardian swap au; a plausible au wherein dave’s meteor(s) are set to land in upstate new york and rose’s in houston tx where they are discovered by mom lalonde and bro strider respectively. so it’s not even really an “alternative universe” so much as “alternative circumstance” because that’s literally all that changes

their interests aren’t swapped; their interests are a natural result of a mix of what they were always predisposed towards (we can look at their post-scratch versions for constants) combined with their living environment. rose strider is still gothy and writes, knits, and has an interest in the zoologically dubious. perhaps rose might handcraft some delirious puppets for her brother-slash-ectofather’s enterprise as a “gift” in one-upmanship. probably has good rapport with the crows that fly into her ironic knockoff disney-princess themed bedroom (see the post i linked above) and get them to fuck with bro passively in exchange for peanuts. she also keeps all the things the crows gift her, pickpocketed shiny things and whatnot

dave lalonde is still the knight of time, still makes sbahj, likes photography, still loves cooking up unbelievably ill jams, still into post-ironic expression, however he’s not irony-poisoned by bro so he’s more comfortable being genuine. his interest in dead things and paleontology comes more to a forefront because of mom’s predilection towards science and genuine encouragement from her. after all she’s made many a mutant kitten herself

i feel like since dave fell to earth with maplehoof, crushing the pony instantly on impact, instead of using its hide to make a bib like a fucking weirdo, mom would paradox clone maplehoof. so dave has a pet pony with a ribbon and little pink heart on it. a knight needs a loyal steed. and hes been attached to maplehoof since his literal first few minutes of existing. so maplehoof wouldnt be bought anywhere, it would originate from itself

i mean he’s seen with the pony at his side in the post-scratch universe so…..

would make sense if the pony mom gifted to rose in canon was more of an involved thing with dave in this circumstance

the only issue is maplehoof cant become his sprite, otherwise that would break the timeloop (they need to come unaltered to earth with dave on the meteor in the first place during the reckoning). also [S] Ride with dave and the scarf would absolutely be a thing at some point

i was thinking maybe instead of a crow, since they aren’t as “everywhere” in upstate new york as they are in that high rise in texas, dave has something more prehistoric put into a sprite. like a parave theropod. can you imagine parave davesprite. maybe an archaeopteryx or something

i guess mom would indulge in a living museum/zoo for “domesticated” ancient organisms all jurassic parked like a weird ongoing experiment but the ectobiology wouldnt be perfect especially because the dna wouldnt be able to be fully read from fossils and specimens. i feel like jurassic park should be dave lalonde’s sort of in-universe media reference the way con air was with john and putting the bunny back in the box. like his friends would just rip on him for living out jurassic park in an imperfect domestic way

and he accidentally kills it through some fetch modus shenanigans. dave still has the bladekind strife specibus but not because he does rooftop battles but because swords are unironically cool, and flings it out the window by accident and it strikes one of the parave theropods in the enclosed zoo below outside his window and dave feels kinda bad

when jade sees it as his server player shes like “oh nooooo :(“ and dave is like “oh god no dont put that in the seizure kernel while i take a piss in one of the many fancy bathrooms this household has”

Urgh the use of fatness as a misogynistic epithet is make me uneasy about the "dining on the ripe flesh of the plump vegetable" line all over again. This is right after WV appearifies the Bec-pumpkin that was going to fall on Jade's sleeping head, too... his appearifying Serenity must correspond to the appearance of fairy Vriska in the dream, but I still can't determine the significance in either case.... I guess if you apply Jade's frog-in-ice imagery retroactively, ripping Serenity from the amber would refer to the act of waking? And Vriska does initiate the flash Wake by waking WV up...

Pushing back farther, using the light of the body-in-ice sounds similar to carving out the seeds of the "plump vegetable", insofar as both involve exploiting information drawn from "sleepers"? And that becomes the whole basis of frog breeding too, drawing (genetic) information from bodies-in-ice -- it's a big Jurassic Park scenario. So Jade's execution of frog breeding is a repetition of sorts, imitating the function of the "voyeur bot" that gave Grandpa access to Jade's dreams? Hm

I'm so in love with Chenyu Vale. Honestly, it's everything that I wish it would be and more. Consider this a warning, I suppose, because it's 'Sae loves on' time again. I'm never going to say that everything in Genshin Impact is perfect because it has plenty of flaws, but what I will say, is that they also do a lot of right. And Chenyu Vale is one of them.

I was walking through it again the other day to gather some jade, and it's seriously absolutely stunning. We knew it had to be rich of mountains and water, so it'd almost certainly have to be a sight to behold, but they truly lived up to the challenge. And honestly, this was really driven home even more when I discovered the boat ride while questing. I was going up the river and all I had playing in my head was the scene in the original Jurassic Park where you first hear that one track? Love. Best detail/addition.

Now, I wasn't sure what to expect of Yilong Wharf when I'd seen the issue of elevation both in Chenyu Vale and Lumidouce Harbor (especially the latter) but they integrated it perfectly. I love its functionality, its aesthetic, I love its architecture, I love walking through it and even if it doesn't have an alchemy table, I frequent it very often for no other reason than to just stand there. But the biggest treat for me was Qiaoying Village. Honestly, the tea village was everything that lore had described it to be and then some. I was on some level so worried to how it would look, because you sometimes worry that your high expectations can never be met, but then Hoyo gave me (us, obviously) Qiaoying Village and I don't care that it doesn't have an alchemy table, I truly don't care, I idle there all of the time (yes, I'm a PC player and Genshin runs in the background 23/4) because it's absolutely enchanting, endearing, stunning and perfection. They surprised me with the adeptal cauldron, as I expected all of it to be done rather 'naturally' but then again, this is Liyue and it is a perfectly logical and sound addition that I've come to very much appreciate. I just, I'm just so very in love with this zone. Its aesthetic, its colors, its mood, its people, its lore/history, its architecture and its OST. Ugh, guys, the OST.

Okay okay, I'll stop crying and staring at my beloved tea village and try to knock out some writing. I need to live up to my promises.

he kind of has a difficult time accepting that you like him enough to want to just spend the day with him, but he's pretty touched when it sinks in that you do

you order some food, curl up on the couch and binge some tv show or movie series that either of you likes, it could be some old favourite or something that's been sitting on your to-watch list for a while. i just know that jade is a jurassic park kind of guy and no one can change my mind

all the time he's just thinking how nice and natural it all feels and how easily he could get used to having you around more often <3

in the town

he would talk a lot about where he wants to take you when you get out, but if confronted with the thought of going on a date while in there, he'd be like—what the hell do you mean, there's nothing to do in here

you tease him a little bit like come on, where's that imagination you keep talking about? be creative. you'll come up with something for sure

now it's a challenge. and he tries. he really tries. but nothing feels impressive or datey enough, considering where he'd like to take you if he could

you ask him to see the notebook he's been writing (and sketching) the ideas on and you can't help but laugh. jade, literally a picnic would've been just fine

but you make sure to show him how touched you are that he was putting so much effort into trying to make something really special for you. he gets lots of love and many hugs and kisses as a reward <3

kenny loves café and museum dates, though he'd be a bit worried that he's not smart enough to impress you if you go to a museum. he just really likes going because all the stuff is cool, but he's not one of those guys that can tell you more than the guide on any given tour. he might try to prepare and do a bit of research beforehand to try to show off though :)

it's very easy to tell that he didn't just happen to know all that stuff, but nonetheless it's incredibly cute

bonus points if you are the kind of person that can tell you more than the guide on any given tour. you'd have to correct him on some stuff. he'd be a bit embarrassed but his crush on you would only get bigger and bigger with that

if he wants to go for something a bit bigger or special he might ask if you want to book one of those weekends that you can spend at an apple orchard or a pumkin farm in the fall, it would be really sweet and he'd take the cutest pics of you <3

in town

his go-to would be a picnic in the nicest patch of woods that he can find. it's an easy choice because he's big on picnics in general, no matter where you are

he would pick some flowers for you and do his best to help you feel at ease. if you're new, you may be a bit worried about straying from the town even just a little bit, but he knows the place really well and he'd reassure you that the woods are safe as long as the sun is out

it'd be worth it when the knowledge of where you are begins to fade away. once you can no longer see colony house or the town, you start feeling like you could be on a normal hike, and that feels really nice

miss anthro’s film recs: May 2021

Jurassic Park 1993: Watched this for the third time in a month today to celebrate it's release 28 years ago. Like most excellent films, it was created by a lucky intersection of talent. The remarkable premise was crafted into a brilliant script by David Koepp and author Michael Crichton; it was tight, clean, fast-paced - no plot holes and unnecessary scenes. Steven Spielberg really did a fantastic job of making a cohesive production and giving it a kind of emotional continuity. The cast is outstanding. I could write an essay about each one. Richard Attenborough brings pathos to John Hammond, the delusional tycoon. Sam Neill is perfect as Alan Grant, a jaded paleontologist who finds deeper compassion. Laura Dern gives a raw performance as the resolute and charming paleo-botanist Ellie Sattler. Jeff Goldblum stars as Ian Malcolm, chaotician and prototype "rock-star scientist." Bob Peck is wonderful as the sensible game warden Robert Muldoon. Samuel L. Jackson works his magic as sardonic chief engineer Ray Arnold. And of course, excellent performances from Martin Ferrero, Wayne Knight, Joseph Mazzello, and Ariana Richards. The special and physical effects are remarkable and most of them remain so nearly three decades later, including the life-sized animatronic Tyrannosaurus rex and just the right amount of CGI. Cinematography by Dean Cundey features god-tier-level use of scale framing. Not to mention great use of color, blocking, sound, costume, John Williams' beautiful score - you name it, this film really has everything going for it. Is this a perfect film? No, but it gets bloody close. Unmissable science-fiction that examines the horror unleashed by the arrogance of mankind. 

The Birdcage 1996: This 25* year old film is a real gem. While the modern viewer (myself included) could find fault with some stereotypes, etc., the classic comedy has aged quite well. There’s a lot of slapstick and hysterically funny and clever dialogue. Williams and Lane are outstanding. There’s a very touching scene between the two of them which is very romantic and sweet. And of course the whole cast is perfect. I’m always impressed by this film when I haven’t seen it in a while.

The Moon-Spinners 1964: You don’t need to be a Disney fan to love this incredible classic. Hayley Mills is well loved but I don’t think she’s given enough credit for being not only a brilliant child actor but also a great actor as she aged. Her performance is stellar. The whole movie is fun and tense, bringing Mary Stewart’s novel to life in the great and beautiful country of Greece. It’s a fun adventure from start to finish with humor and romance.

Fairytale: A True Story 1997: Want to cry your eyes out about the Cottingley fairy hoax of 1917? You may not trust me but I recommend this experience. Honestly, this movie is life-changing. This is a depiction of a real life story involving historical figures. Usually no one gets that quite right but this movie kinda does. Peter O’Toole looks nothing like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but Harvey Keitel looks remarkably like Harry Houdini. Something about the music and what they do with this story gets into your bloodstream. I couldn’t possibly spoil for anyone who knows nothing about it, but I can say that there is some incredible CGI and a scene where someone faces retribution from an unexpected and shocking source.

I found this in my drafts. Clearly, life got in the way and I didn’t continue my recommendation posts (I have the templates drafted in text form.) Also, while drafting this edit I was attacked by a small beetle. I remain unharmed and have released the beetle into its natural environment.
