Not enough people understand the true nature of Jurassic Park methinks. Can it be enjoyed as a dinosaur horror? Absolutely. But I personally think it's much more enjoyable as a biological sci-fi. These aren't dinosaurs, they are biological monsters made in the shape of dinosaurs. They cut corners, they used frog DNA to fill in what they didn't have. John Hammond brought these experts along to see if their reactions would be "Oh my god that's a dinosaur" and then moved along when it was exactly that. But idk, that's just me.

So I’m reading Jurassic Park for the first time and … the movie was perfectly casted oh my god. I can’t help but picture them all when I read because when I tell you they captured the energy so well, I mean it.
Also something about Alan and Ellie meeting Ian and “we’re a trio now. Besties forever” the second they meet is iconic. The squad ever actually.

Ian Malcom: I hate details. The only thing that matters is the big picture.
Richard Levine: I hate the big picture. The only thing that matters are details.
Sarah Harding: You two should breed and ask your child what they think.

Books Read in 2023:
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
“Living systems are never in equilibrium. They are inherently unstable. They may seem stable, but they’re not. Everything is moving and changing. In a sense, everything is on the edge of collapse.”

I think ellie is by far my favorite character
Somthing about female characters thriving in high tense situations always does it for me
She's just so cool

“Right now, as we stand here, almost no one in the world has ever seen an actual dinosaur. Nobody knows what they’re really like.”
“Yes …”
“The dinosaurs we have now are real,” Wu said, pointing to the screens around the room, “but in certain ways they are unsatisfactory. Unconvincing. I could make them better.”
“Better in what way?”
“For one thing, they move too fast,” Henry Wu said. “People aren’t accustomed to seeing large animals that are so quick. I’m afraid visitors will think the dinosaurs look speeded up, like film running too fast.”
“But, Henry, these are real dinosaurs. You said so yourself.”
“I know,” Wu said. “But we could easily breed slower, more domesticated dinosaurs.”
“Domesticated dinosaurs?” Hammond snorted. “Nobody wants domesticated dinosaurs, Henry. They want the real thing.”
“But that’s my point,” Wu said. “I don’t think they do. They want to see their expectation, which is quite different.”

I'm only, like, 100 pages into the first Jurassic Park book, but I'm almost completely convinced that the reason the park failed as badly as it did was because everyone in the books was fuckin stupid.
Like yeah, I 100% agree that you shouldn't bring back extinct animals en masse with how little we really know about them, but like- that's not even the reason the park failed so badly.
These people are so fucking dumb oh my gosh- they get to the resort and the first thing Ellie does is notice that they're growing poisonous ferns right outside the swimming pool. And apparently they're not even extinct ferns?? They still exist in Brazil and Colombia! Like- they must be ignoring this shit on purpose now,,, how else do you fuck up that badly oh my gosh.
Not to mention the dinosaurs were already eating people on mainland Costa Rica before the story even started,,, like holy hell how do you actually fuck up that badly

I am so tired rn and I need to rant.
The Jurassic park movies are absolute bullshit. Sure, their great movies, but looking at it as an adaptation, the suck. They make the Percy Jackson movies seem like blockbuster cinema and those made me want to kill myself. If you ever need to torture information out of me, put me through a Jurassic Park marathon. Actually, no, that wouldn't work because I'd kill myself before the first movie ended. What's wrong with them you ask? Well I'll tell ya. Jurassic Park. The classic. Sattler and Grant, the romance of all time. Except that it never happens it the book and Sattler was like 20 years younger than Grant, his former student, and she was fucking engaged. But no, have them kiss or whatever. At least they didn't merge two fundamentally different characters togeth- what. They merged Gennaro, a lawyer who wants to shut down the park, and Regis, head of PR for the park? And killed this guy off where Regis died and therefore destroying any relationships Gennaro might have made and made the ending of the book irrelevant? So your saying that Muldoon and Gennaro never become friends and explode a raptor together? Cool. It's fine. At least the next move can't fuck it up that bad, right? (Little did they know that their faith in movie adaptations will be ruined forever.) Jurassic Park: Lost world. In all honesty I haven't watched this movie in years. However, reading one overview told me all I need to know. First thing, THEY GOT RID OF ONE OF THE MAN CHARACTERS?!? WHAT THE FUCK?!?! I understand changing some things to make the movie interesting, but what the fuck?! This guy, Levine, is the only reason Malcom goes to the island in the first place. Not Harding, who joined late. Speaking of Harding, what is with movie producers and forcing a romance when there isn't one? Malcom and Harding were NOT together in the books. There were some allusions to a past relationship, but nothing happened. Also, why the fuck was Kelly Malcom's kid?!? They don't fucking know each other in the book. Them on the island is the first time the two of them fucking meet. Kelly was a student who studied under Levine, the guy who doesn't exist, and snuck into the travel trailer with Arby, a black kid who I don't think was in the movie. Hmmm. Anyways, at least they stayed true the the plot a little bit- WHAT THE FUCK?! WHY ARE THEY IN SAN FRANSISCO(?) The book ended when the left the island. Dogson (was he in the movie?) got torn apart by a bunch of baby t-rex's. How tf did he get off the island?! You can't call this and adaptation if you change everything about the source material!!!! " Oh, Maybe they did it because trying to survive on an island is boring and hard the translate onto the big screen " EXPLAIN JURASSIC PARK THREE TO ME THEN.
TL:DR the jurassic park movies are shit adaptations and I'm very tired

I was reading Jurassic Park when this paragraph absolutely gutted me. I don’t know why, but it did. As someone who used to be a dinosaur obsessed kid, it really resonated with me. Very very interesting take, Michael Chrichton.

Jurassic Park has been my favorite movie since forever and I finally, finally got around to finishing the book. I've been awed, horrified, deeply unnerved, and now I ship Muldoon and Gennaro. All in all, a great experience. 10/10 would read again
