Papaya is a visual novel cooking game based on medieval fantasy in a Dungeons and Dragons like setting. Follow the young Dragonborn Papaya who under the training of famed elven chef Gaelyn Ramsday, attempts to become the greatest chef of the land. Follow a strong narrative and learn about the world through character interactions and a branching dialogue system. 
Embark on a cookout you’ll never forget!

Post Mortem

We have spent a year working tirelessly on our game, and have finally presented the final version, now it’s time for our group to get together and reflect over the game as a whole.
::::::::::What went well / right?╭───────╮

We managed to create a fully functional game experience - fun and engaging for a whole wide range of people
We achieved what we wanted to aesthetically, after struggling to find the right aesthetic at the start, and created a cohesive style that looks amazing and comes together well
The level design was fun and well done, with a good difficulty that slowly got harder as time went on
While communication wasn’t always great, by the end we managed to bring it together
:::::::::: What didn't go so well / what went wrong?╭───────╮

Communication was a big downfall at first, and resulted in a lot of confusion and miscommunication at first
There was a lot of confusion regarding the game and what each member wanted and expected from the game, resulting in many changes in the game idea and a late start in the actual production of the game
It took a long time to complete certain tasks, resulting in other aspects of the game being pushed back to compensate
:::::::::: What would you do differently╭───────╮

Have a more concrete idea of what everyone wanted to do and wanted out of the game earlier on, so we could have done more in the time we had
Create more merchandise for the game, as well as increase the general marketing done
Be more willing to openly communicate, including being able to critique each others work more, and doing more in our assigned roles

Have better team reflection and spend less time working on non useful things for the game
Claire
Push to stick to their original game visions, and kept it more complicated and more variety within the games itself
Jussea
Be more firm as a producer, and more strictly adhere to task deadlines

Provide more input personally into the original idea for the game early on, and have better time management for completing tasks earlier on

The Captain
❛ ┆: …A change in vision

Papaya and Gaelyn weren’t the only characters to get a style upgrade! Next in line was Captain Riar, who had a few minor changes based on feedback given in the past and during the Perth Games Festival. He was changed to now face in a similar way to other sprites, as well as having a few minor armour and colour changes. Below is the sprites created by Jussea, as well as a side-by-side comparison of the previous sprite.

Character Design and Development
