hiii!! i saw that you wanted some roan & eddie & reader requests sooo,, becuase barbie is trending so muchh i was wondering if you could write reader watching roan play with her barbies and instantly taken back to her childhood and getting very emotional ??
i mean its whats happening to me being reminded how much ive grown and how much effect those dolls had on me soo yeah 😭
tysm ♡ eddie and roan
A long, creaking squeal sounds from Roan when you come home. Eddie plugs his ears, knowing exactly what it is you have in the huge plastic bag at your waist —Roan's special treats, as previously discussed, for being such a lovely girl lately.
It might be a silly thing to treat her for, but she deserves toys before any amazing behaviour, and you have the extra money to buy them. Why shouldn't she get them? You and Eddie chatted some while you were at work that morning, trying to choose what toys to get.
"I haven't bought her toys by myself since we first met, what if I pick something crappy?" you'd worried.
Eddie gave it a little bit of thought, hand twined in the curling wire of the telephone, slouched as he usually does against the back wall of the shop. "Hey, she hasn't had any new dolls since Christmas. They'd go over nicely. Or she always likes a new dress. I'm sure you'll find something when you're there. You can get me something fun at the same time if you want."
You'd laughed at his joke and, if the light in your eyes now is anything to go off of, managed to find some presents you're happy with.
"Naddy's Toy Emporium!?" Roan shouts, rocketing off of the couch where she'd been standing waiting for you.
You've a nightly routine, hugging her when you come home like your life depends on it, but clearly Roan has decided the hug can wait. For once, Eddie's finished dinner before you're return, so he has a good seat on the couch to watch everything unfold.
You let her grab the bag's sides but lift it a touch when she tries to take it. "Hey, they're for you, I promise, but let's come inside and put them on the table!"
Roan squeals and knocks into Eddie's knees. He sits up and grabs her gently by the waist, hoisting her onto his lap. You sit on the couch cushion trampled flat by Roan's feet, pulling the play table where she likes to eat her snacks closer.
"Are you doing the speech?" you ask Eddie, putting down the bag.
He grins. "Ro," he begins, turning skewiff, her back to the couch to allow you both a great view of her face, "you've been a really good girl, lately. Do you know that? You've been eating all your dinner, no tantrums before school, and now you're even starting to help clean up around the house. So me and Y/N just want you to know how proud we are and how awesome we think you are."
"And we think all this awesome deserves some presents because we love you," you say. "Do you want the smallest or the biggest one first?"
There's lots of nice presents. You've stayed within the confines of the agreed budget, which is a feat for you (as you love to spoil her). There's five new barbies, one of which comes with a car, and the other a puppy dog. They have clothes, accessories, and an abundance of plastic he needs to cut away with scissors. His hand is welted red by the time he's through.
You also bought her a glittery lip gloss to replace the one she lost a few weeks ago. The proof of it sparkles on your cheek and Eddie's, twin thank yous.
You go quiet as Roan retreats to her satin princess tent, driving the pink corvette back and forth as she makes the barbies talk to one another.
"You okay?" he asks. You'd been wearing this huge smile for the last twenty minutes and now it's gone, he hates it. "I've been thinking maybe you deserve something nice, too."
You smile weakly. Okay, so you're not wanting anything.
"Dinner should be ready soon."
"Thanks, Eddie."
He gives up. He's about as subtle as a feather boa and you love him that way, drifting down toward your arm, his face smashing into your shoulder. "What's wrong?"
You put your head atop his. "Well, I'm just thinking."
"I may not look like it, but I think too, occasionally. Share with me."
You push his arm until he sits up and sinks down into his side instead. Eddie supposes you're allowed, even if usually he'd call it sexist or selfish. "I had a lot of fun picking those out today, and I kept thinking about the look on her face…"
Eddie hums to show he's listening. Kisses the top of your head 'cos he can. "Yeah?"
"I just remembered being her age. Do you remember wanting something really badly? There was something so nice about getting to grab a kart and– and to just stand there debating which ones to get."
Eddie toys with your pinky finger. "That's not everything, is it?"
Your smile presses against his arm, a deep emotion in your voice that's hard to pin. "Watching her makes me remember. Being a kid, playing make believe. I'll never be that young ever again, and there's no way to go back. But I," —you take in a steadying breath— "don't mind. I love seeing her so happy."
He intertwines your fingers between his, shorter and a little bit softer than his. He soaks in your presence for a moment, the smell of you, your tiny sounds, the secret you've shared with him. You're a mixture of sad and happy. He's not sure which one overpowers which, only that they're hitting you hard.
"There's lots of cool shit that comes with being a parent. You know the best one?" he asks you, raising his eyebrows at you with a fondness lining his lips.
"No?"
"You can play games without anyone judging you. I know it's not the same as being a kid again, but it's close."
"Yeah?" you ask, sitting up. "You'll come play too, right?"
Eddie casts his gaze to his daughter where she chit chats on the floor. "Hey, Roanie? Can we come play with you?"
Roan is almost as pleased as when she first laid eyes on her treasure trove of dolls.

This is the post where I show off the stuff I've gotten in the last month-ish. And it's been another good one!
(I mean it's always a good one, I have excellent taste)
Coffee and Chaos: I'm tickled by the concept of a coffeeshop AU, and I know that this game isn't explicitly for that. But it's also not *not* for that. Comes in a like conference-style folder, with all the bits you need to play tucked into the sides, which is also a great presentation that I felt deserved a shout-out!
Far Horizons Guide to Cults: I'm friendly with some Far Horizons folks, but wanted this book because it's awesome. A book containing notes and pre-made cults that have goals and drives beyond just "Be A Cult". I am intrigued by the occult, and I hope this gives me more nuance.
Neurocity: Picked this up on vibes alone, but I'm hearing more and more rad things about the creator. It's dystopic, a little cyberpunk, and the book is dripping with style. Can't wait to dig deeper.
You're In Space and Everything's Fucked: Station and Struggler's Guides: The title alone sold me, but I like what Dinoberry Press puts out in general. This is a solo survival space horror game with a cool respawn mechanic. I also splurged on the fancy version because the covers are very cool.
Dead Belt: The pleather folio for this honestly is what sold me, but the game itself is really cool. Salvage ships by laying out cards, exploring, and managing your air and tool resources. Try not to die. I haven't really succeeded at that last part yet...
Exquisite Corpse in the Maggot's Keep: Technically, this isn't a TTRPG, but it's go so many TTRPG folks in it that it might as well be. It's a choosable path adventure written by a variety of people in (if I remember the pitch) exquisite corpse style.
Best Left Buried: Throne of Avarice and In Calamity's Wake: As we already know, I'm a SoulMuppet fan (as in, I've written for their other big series, Orbital Blues). The main book, Throne of Avarice, was written by a creator whose work I've been trying to get more of. I haven't read Best Left Buried as fully as a game, but I am really excited by the excuse to dig in.
Between Clouds: I like air islands and big monsters and found family. Partially, I grabbed this because a friend got really excited about it, and it seemed like it could be fun to run a campaign with them, but I'm also curious about the Year Zero Engine, and glad to see people using it.
Kitchen Knightmares: Grabbed this as an add-on for the You're In Space crowdfund, but I'm glad I got it because it's loosely inspired by This Discord Has Ghosts In It, and that game rules. I might be able to pitch this to my friend group, who enjoyed Discord Has Ghosts.
In a Mirror Brightly/Handbaskets: First off, plug for the RTFM podcast, because it's very good. This two-games-in-one book is created by the two hosts of that show, who are great designers and seem really lovely. But, two wildly different vibes in a single volume is a great idea.
You Meet in a Tavern, You Die in a Dungeon: I've been following the creator for this since some of my earliest days in the RPG scene, so I was happy to help make this a reality. Feels very tropey, and I mean that in the best way possible.
In Other Waters: Tidebreak: Honestly, I have barely scratched the surface of In Other Waters, the PC game this is based on. But this is a Mothership solo hack that returns to that world, and it had me curious based on that pitch alone.
Aaand because I'm a doofus who forgot to include it, here's one more book! PLUS A guest appearance from my new desk mat.
Tumblr media
Teeth: Been into Forged in the Dark lately, and as much as I enjoy Monster of the Week, the pitch for this seemed like it was more my speed. You're monster hunters, trying to keep the occult under wraps, while keeping secrets of your own. Plus, horror comedy!
The mat is the cover art from Friends at the Table's current season, Palisade. It's an Armor Astir campaign following up on some of the characters from their Partizan series.

hi, i just saw your sponsored post and scrolled through your blog a bit, but i still haven't really understood what am mlp ask blog is
if you don't mind, may i ask you a few questions ?
is the blog/graveyard under the tree the first mlp ask blog ?
when did this start ? when did you start your blog ?
no need to answer this if you don't want to, but what made you stop and then what made you return ?
for some reason seeing all your comics and the responses to them is making me nostalgic and i don't even know what for
Sure! There's a lot of nuancey-details that I'll probably leave out for sake of time, but I'll try to summarise my answers as much as possible. Is the blog/graveyard under the tree the first mlp ask blog ? - The blog under the tree is Ask Surprise, one of the top ask blogs around the 2011/2012 era. Surprise was huge back in the day, but was more specifically my favourite, and what inspired me to draw my stinky recolor in the first place! There's really no particular reason she's the center of the graveyard, aside from the fact she means a lot to me. As Alby put it, she was THE best! When did this start ? When did you start your blog? - The first MLP ask blog started around late 2010 I believe, with most of the founders starting up in 2011. Albino Pie specifically was created May 25th, 2012. What made you stop and then what made you return? - The reason I stopped and inevitably killed her off is pretty complicated, and involves a lot of personal details. To keep it brief, around 2013/2014 ask blogs and mlp in general started to die down quite a lot, and cringe-culture was starting to grow rapidly, causing many artists to abandon their blogs in favour of more original creations, and anything that wouldn't make them a laughingstock of their peers. This, combined from the trauma set on by a toxic group of friends that I had at the time inevitably lead me to pull the plug. I went off to start making more original works, completely refusing to acknowledge my involvement with MLP or the ask blog in general for a very long time. Fast forward to 2020, which marked the 10 year anniversary of Friendship Is Magic. There was a sudden surge and wave of nostalgia, which caused a lot of old creators to come back, me included. I finally came to accept I never truly hated the character, and always did want to continue drawing her and finish the blog one day. Growing older you quickly learn that life is simply too short to be embarrassed by the things you love to create/enjoy, and I regret falling into that hole in the first place. For some reason seeing all your comics and the responses to them is making me nostalgic and i don't even know what for! - That's awesome! I'm glad It's able to resonate with people who don't even have the slightest clue as to what's going on haha. There's lots of history around Ask Blogs, so I would definitely try checking out some of the one's I've tagged in my posts.

Movies I think that everyone should watch but also probably read the warnings for:
1. The Menu (very funny, fucked me up for a week, good commentary on how the rich ruin passion and also everything)
2. Don't Look Up (what can I say I'm a sucker for movies that talk about how corporations and billionaires and the government are going to kill us all with their greed and ignorance and stupidity. This movie is terrifying and hilarious and I think you should only watch it if you're in the right headspace)
3. Any movie by Laika Studios (I Love stop motion animation and the movies that this studio has created are absolutely breathtaking)
4. Paranorman (this is one movie by Laika Studios that I think that you should watch. The style is gorgeous and it's funny and cool and Norman and his dad made me so miserable)
5. Kubo and the Two Strings (another movie by Laika Studios, can't tell you much cause I don't want to spoil anything but it made me bawl my eyes out what I was like 11 and fhelsofjskks it's really good and the style is gorgeous and the story is awesome)
6. Wendle and Wild (it's another stop motion movie, I'd be shocked if you haven't seen it. The main character is a punk afro indigenous girl who ends up killing two millionaires who are trying to decimate her town to build a giant prison and exploit the system for profit. The cast is really diverse and it's awesome and if you haven't seen it you should watch it)
7. Game Night (this movie is NOT animated this time, it's a live action comedy about a man (very competitive) who can't get it up because he feels like always he's being bested by his brother. During one of him and his friend's weekly(?) game nights, his brother gets kidnapped and they think that it's a joke for a while so they're trying to solve where the brother got taken to and it is SO. FUNNY. you have to watch it I beg of you)
8. Princess Mononoke (absolutely GORGEOUS. My personal favorite Studio Ghibli movie. So madly in love with Sen, Ashitaka and Lady Eboshi everyone in this movie is so hot. Loved the message that nobody was truly a bad person. Lady Eboshi was killing the forest but she was also kind and taking in lepers and women who otherwise would have had hard lives working in brothels. Anyways the forest spirit is creepy as fuck why does it have a man face)
9. Fantastic Mr. Fox (I don't feel like I even have to say anything. It's Fantastic Mr Fox. I think that by now you all know how much I absolutely adore stop motion movies, and this movie is so silly and heartbreaking and ughjhjhhhhhhh. This movie scratches just the right itch in my brain. I hate that fucking coach btw. Fuck that guy what was his problem)
10. This is just gonna be a shameless plug for all of my favorite TV shows I think you should watch (I don't even need to say this but mob psycho 100, the last of us, adventure time, Fionna and cake, Hannibal, Grey's anatomy (don't actually it's horrible and mind numbing,) bobs burgers, what we do in the shadows)

Sorry if it was rude reblog your post about how you’re working on your pjo/stranger things fusion headcanons, etc, with my long-ass post dumping all of MY headcanons—still trying to learn tumblr etiquette lol—but I am REALLY excited to see what you come up with for your interpretation of this concept (pjo/stranger things crossovers). It’s just—such a fun au to play with, and I love seeing what other people are doing with it. (Hence the getting excited & posting the probably-incoherent brain-dump lol). I was wondering if you wanted to elaborate on why you like Will as an Apollo kid? I saw some of why you liked it for him in one of your posts, but I’m really curious, and it seems like a really cool idea for his other parent. Also El as a huntress?!?!?! PLZ i need more information NOW.
While we’re on the topic, how do you feel about Kali/Eight as a child of Hecate?
Hi !!! I spent like 10mn reading your reblog and I loved it ! Don't worry, I always appreciate the hc dump, even when they highly differ from mine ! This was an awesome read!!
OKAY LET'S DIVE INTO APOLLO WILL !
I have said before Will has always been artistic, which is an Apollo trait.
Tumblr media
What we evoked earlier with Lucas, but this time for Will. We know Lonnie gave him a baseball bat, most likely to try and get him to be "masculine", since he is different than his peers. The thing with Apollo kids is that you KNOW they're Apollo kids, and if you don't, you know they're different.
Also, since Lonnie also taught him to shoot, I assume Will is a good shot. Everything that is about missile projectiles is basically given to Apollo kids.
Tumblr media
THERE'S ALSO THIS. I know Hades' kids can do that too, but children of Apollo do that by redirecting the light, and you have to be gifted and skilled for that. What if a small kid, terrified and acting on instinct, turned himself invisible ? It's also nice to note that Apollo kids can also create heat to a certain degree, which is really cool if you're cold. *wink wink*
Children of Apollo can also have premonitions. Limited, granted, but still there. The hallucinations that Will could have with this... this is so good !
They also fear snakes. Now that's REALLY interesting. With the vines from the upside down to the dark particles, they all ressemble snakes one way or another, and I think that's an idea to exploit. Will not knowing why he's so afraid of snakes or what looks like snakes, adding this terror. Maybe even flashes of his own Father, you know ?
What if he was taken precisely because of his gifts, and disappeared into the labyrinth ? Minotaur is one creature of it, but someone might have put more (Henry maybe ? Wink wink)
ALSO ALSO Apollo kids can use sound waves. Will "I love The Clash" Byers will not pass this opportunity to put songs whenever he wants ! So what if he somehow finds a radio in the labyrinth (hey, no one said it couldn't be decorated !) And tried to contact someone ? Like, the radio isn't plugged in, but with his powers! That would be awesome.
(Small crumbs of Hades!Mike : he can sense when and if Will dies, and no one really believes him so he's slowly losing his mind because Will is still out there and everyone is "giving up" by his standards (they aren't, they just don't want to falsely hope))
I might still have more thoughts to come, so I'll probably compile it all up later !
NOW ARTEMIS!El !!! First, Artemis and Apollo are twins. I think that's already an explanation of its own.
Second, though I haven't chosen a godly parent for her yet, El choosing herself her "parent" is awesome. Finally she can do something she enjoys, instead of following what everyone has been saying. If she wants to be a huntress of Artemis, she should be able to be that ! It gives her autonomy, and an identity she made on her own and I find that beautiful.
(THOUGHT : SHE MIGHT BE AN HYPNOS KID. JUST SAYING)
YOU ARE GENIUS FOR KALI !!! HECATE SUITS HER SO WELL. Her tough personality and the fact she can hide herself from monsters ?? This is AWESOME I am on board.

Dear Charlie,
I hope you, and all of us who write you letters, have been well. My lower back is killing me right now but I'll bear it.
I had a videocall with this incredibly handsome guy from the internet the other day and it was moderately awkward and so so so sweet!! And also a week ago I went out with beautiful boy for coffees and unleashed soooo much relationship drama on him at the costa like relentlessly so.. and it was so liberatingg! and then we went charity shop snooping about and I got him a dvd, And we went to the polish shop (there's a polish shop in town now! absolute godsend it was So needed 😤) and he got himself a croissant without actually double-checking the label... thot he was having white chocolate flavour it was champagne.... incredible....
Anyways but then he said I could come along to bowling with him and some other ex coworkers in the evening and I didn't manage to make it for the bowling part of the evening but I did go to the pub with them! Shocker! Who is he! I had one whole pint of some fruity cider and then shared some of my organic lettuce with beautiful boy (and he was standing opposite me in this little alleyway and his eyes were so brown) and it was overall such a delightful evening. Like yes admittedly it is august and I haven't been to a pub since december. Yes before that it had been several years. Yes I've gotten so much worse at masking with all this isolation. I'm glad I had prepared for that and had brought myself a full bag of odd stuff to fidget about with. I hadn't however packed earplugs, and I am about to go buy some after I send this letter. Because I would like to do this again.
Naturally it all came with repercussions. Fiance had a very predictable swing where me having gone out to a pub by myself for the second time in our four and a half years together (need to try really hard to remember if there's been another time I'm forgetting) was just Such a thing and he was so upset, and obviously tried to complain to his mom and his new friend, both of whom were probably like um. you what. so he was cranky for two days there then switched to getting me a ticket to a cool movie in the cinema - awesome move! He then goes ahead and tells our child a few days after that his friend will be looking after her while him and me go see a cool movie. Hasn't mentioned it to me and when he does hours after and I tell him yo just run things involving the kid past me before getting her all excited he. He actually did it. He'd been out until two am the night before, hadn't said more than three sentences to me all day, and he did it. He came in my room and told me. "Well the reason this is happening is we have serious communication issues"
Charlie I don't know how I managed to hold myself back. The gall! Mr fan of technology consistently forgets he can text, much less call. Everything has to be a Conversation that happens on his own terms. I don't know whom to ask strength of.
Anyways. It's all chill now Mr man went camping last night he's all chill he's going to be stopping drinking allegedly and he's going to be going camping more often. Music to my ears - and I do mean this solemnly. I hope he gets what he needs out of this existence. I hope I too manage to. I hope you live I hope we both live. Long and away from and despite of one another.
I'm too tired to keep trying.
On to the ear plugs website it is! I will see those eyes under those lights again. I will make socializing tolerable.
And tomorrow, I will nail a mirror to my wall. And I will try to stop and look at my own eyes, sometimes.
And on it goes, Charlie. On it has to go.
Love always,
Dmitri

Chapter 3 - First Come First Serve - Words: 2,788
"Here's her profile, Greg," Sergeant Donovon said, dropping a folder on her boss's desk.
"Clarissa Hughes, aged 32, brown and blue, 5' 5", No. 1 District, been on the force since '10, promoted to Sergeant in '17. Unmarried, unattached, no children, father deceased, mother living in Manchester, one sister in America." Greg sighed after reading the file. He leaned back in his chair and rubbed his forehead. He never liked cases involving one of his own. They always gave him a migraine.
The scene yesterday was impressive even for someone like him who'd been in New Scotland Yard for over 30 years. The young woman had been found in her apartment, laying face down on the floor. A small bullet hole in the window revealed a sniper had been perched on the roof of a nearby building. While there were entry and exit wounds, they had not yet found the bullet to give to ballistics.
"There's not much to go on. It could have been random. Maybe she had one bad date with someone who was a bit off their rocker and-"
"Inspector," Anderson interrupted.
"Yes?" Greg replied, migraine now doubling.
"They found this at the scene." Anderson held out a Ziploc with a ruby red, silk handkerchief. It had no markings on it, not even a snag, save for the small, gold R embroidered on the corner.
"Where did they find it?"
"It was special delivered today with no return address or other markings."
"Now why would a woman, whose name does not start with R, order a monogrammed handkerchief."
Tumblr media
"Bored!"
*bang*
"BORED!"
*bang bang bang*
"Sherlock! I swear you had better stop that or I will call Lestrade this time and tell him it was you who put the hallucinogen in Anderson's tea!"
"Fine!"
"Good!”
*thwap thud thwap thud thwap thud*
"Sherlock?"
"I'm being quiet!"
"What are you doing?"
"A bow and arrow are much more satisfying!"
"Oh -!"
Tumblr media
"Torry! Guess what!" Erin called out to her roommate from the living room of their shared apartment.
"You're moving out?" She called back, teasing as usual.
"Haha, very funny," Erin deadpanned. "Really though, this is awesome."
"Did we get a case?"
"Better!"
"Two cases?"
"Torry!"
"Ok! What?"
"In exactly 1 month you and I will be in London, England speaking at the International Inspectors Convention."
"Wow! That's fantastic! I wonder if-" Torry paused. "Nevermind."
"Don't worry, Torry, I already checked," Erin winked. "He's scheduled to speak the day after us."
Tumblr media
"Inspector, there's been another murder," Donovan announced, walking up to Lestrade in the break room.
"Ok," he replied. "Is it my division?"
"Yes, this time it was Amelia Walker. She was an Inspector in No. 3 District." Greg slammed his mug down on the counter.
"Walker and Hughes were two of our best inspectors! Have you found any connection yet?" The two grabbed their jackets and headed downstairs.
"Nothing yet. The landlady just reported her body. Anderson's there now with his team."
"Ok then, let's go." The two got in the car and headed off. When they arrived, Anderson rushed up holding a small envelope.
"Another one just arrived," He said. Lestrade grabbed the envelope and looked inside. Sure enough, another ruby red handkerchief with an embroidered R on the corner. "I asked the delivery boy where he got it from but he said he didn't know. It was a different boy this time too."
"Where is she?" Lestrade asked. They followed Anderson over to the body. "Cause of death?"
"Another sniper." Anderson showed them the bullet hole in a nearby window. Lestrade shook his head.
"Did ballistics ever get a lead on the gun?"
"Nothing," Donovan replied. "It's a standard sniper rifle but there are literally hundreds of those to try and track down."
"There must be something we're missing," Lestrade groaned.
Tumblr media
"Ah! London! Doesn't it smell great!" Erin exclaimed, taking a deep breath as they stepped off the plane.
"It smells like airplane fuel. Let's wait till we actually leave the airport," Torry replied.
"Ok, grumpy. Geez, remind me never to take you on a flight again." Torry growled in reply but Erin just chuckled. "Let's go get our bags and head to the hotel."
"And go straight to bed. I'm dead."
The next day, the inspectors convention started. There were hundreds of private investigators, police inspectors, and a few other kinds of detectives. Torry kept her eye out for one specific "Consulting Detective" but there was no sign of him on the first day. They did however meet their hotel room neighbor, Frances Grant. She had been an inspector at NYS in London until she moved to Manchester about a year ago.
"Nice gal," Erin commented, walking out of their bathroom that night.
"Yeah. I wonder what that case she mentioned was," Torry replied from her bed, already laying down.
"I don't know. She said she was going to help her old academy friend investigate while she was here, right?"
"Mm," Torry agreed. "Must be pretty serious," She said sleepily.
"Are you really already going to sleep?"
"And why shouldn't I?"
"Seriously? We're in a hotel, got to bed early, have the opportunity to actually watch BBC from London and you want to sleep."
"Yes. You watch TV and tell me all about it when I wake up. I won't be able to stay awake to give BBC my full attention when I'm this tired."
"Party pooper," Erin teased as she plugged in her earbuds. Torry grunted in reply and went to sleep. 2 hours later, Erin was nearly asleep still watching late night mystery shows on BBC.
*CRASH*
"What the-" Erin startled awake. Looking at the TV she saw the detective on the show had just been shot. "Oh, should probably turn that off and go to sleep," She whispered to herself. After turning off the TV and unplugging her earbuds, Erin rolled over and tried to go to sleep.
"Wake up sleepyhead!" Torry yelled the next morning.
"Ok, ok, I'm up," Erin groaned. The girls got ready for the day, Torry dressing up extra fancy since a certain someone was on the program. They headed down for breakfast, where Frances said she'd meet up with them. She didn't show up though and the girls headed back to their room.
"I wonder why Frances didn't come down for breakfast," Torry mused, walking out of the elevator on their floor. Erin shrugged and was about to say something when there was a yell from down the hallway.
"Help! Help! Police! Someone!" A housekeeper cried out.
"What's wrong, miss?" Erin asked, rushing up to her in front of one of the rooms
"Sh-sh-she's dead!" The woman exclaimed. Torry squeezed past her, not noticing which room it was, and looked inside.
"It's Frances!" Torry called out to Erin.
"Oh no!" Erin replied. "I'll be right there!" Erin turned to the housekeeper and handed her a tissue from a box on the cleaning cart. "Why don't you wait in our room? I'll call the police and then they can take a statement from you once they get here." The lady nodded and Erin took her to their room to sit down. From there she called the police.
Meanwhile, Torry began investigating the scene of the crime. "Hm, sniper," Torry mumbled to herself, noticing the window. She walked around the body, examining it and taking mental notes. Suddenly there was a knock on the room door.
"Police!" Torry opened the door at once. "Inspector Lestrade," The man introduced himself. "Are you the one that called?"
"No, that would be my friend, Erin. She's in our room next door with the housekeeper who found the body."
"Are you here for the convention?" Lestrade asked. 'Last thing I need is some amateur messing things up,' He thought to himself.
"Yes."
'Dang it!' He mentally shouted. "Alright, have you moved or touched anything since you entered the room?"
"Really, Inspector, I wouldn't dare! This is a crime scene after all!"
"Ok, just checking," He defended.
"36, married, no children, lives in Manchester, originally from London. That much she told us last night. We had dinner together. She must have died sometime in the middle of the night. I'd say around 2am. Based off the stage of rigor mortis." Lestrade stared at her, surprised. He'd only ever seen one other person rattle off so many facts so quickly. "She was killed by a sniper through the window. I also noticed that-"
"Wait, sniper?"
"Yes. I believe I just said that."
"What's her name?"
"Frances Grant, she's an-"
"Inspector," Lestrade said sadly. "I went to the Academy with her." He shook his head. "Anderson, get me those two other files. Let's see if this one has a connection."
"I'm sure it does, Graham. You probably just haven't looked well enough," Sherlock drawled from the doorway.
"Did I invite you here, Sherlock?" Lestrade yelled.
"Not specifically," He replied coolly, waltzing into the room. "But I heard there was a murder," He said, eyes lighting up. "And I simply had to come!" He grinned.
"Sherlock!" A shorter man yelled from the hallway. "Where did you get off to?"
"In here John!" Torry was just about to say something, finally past the initial surprise that her favorite Detective was standing in front of her, when Erin yelled from the next room.
"Torry! Get over here!" She yelled. Torry, John, and Greg rushed over. "She's gone into shock, can you help me get her on the bed instead of this chair?"
"I can help you, miss. I'm a Doctor," John said.
"Please do, Dr. Watson," She replied. Turning to the others, she asked: "Are you with the Yard?" Lestrade nodded. "She was the one who discovered her body. You'll want a statement later, obviously."
"Ah yes, thank you, Miss-"
"Erin Blair. And that's Torry Star. We're America's only consulting detectives," Erin said with a wink. John's eyebrows shot up immediately. "Yes, Doctor," She continued. "I've read your blog."
"Speaking of Sherlock," Lestrade spoke up. "I had better get back and make sure he hasn't started world war 3 with Anderson."
"If you don't mind, I'd like to come back with you. There was something I noticed," Torry said. Lestrade nodded and the two of them went to the other room. Torry walks in first and, while Sherlock and Anderson are bickering, paces the room. 'Now, I need to check what's shining behind that chair,' She thought. Attempting to go to the corner to check, Torry finds Sherlock is blocking her path. "If you're not going to help investigate the murder, then get out of my way so I can." Torry states. She then pushes past him to examine what she finds to be a bullet casing. Greg had to bite back a laugh at Sherlock's face.
'I've never seen the man look so offended!' Greg thought. 'This will be interesting.' Just then, the hotel phone rang. "Hello, Inspector Lestrade," He said, picking up the phone.
"Inspector, we just had a package dropped off for Miss Grant's room. The boy asked it be delivered right away to Sergeant Donovan."
"Alright, bring it up." Once the package was brought up, Anderson and Donovan opened it carefully while Sherlock and Torry argued over what type of sniper's rifle shoots those bullets.
"It's another handkerchief!" Anderson exclaimed.
"Another?" Torry and Sherlock asked in surprise. Greg explained to them what had happened with the last two murders.
"There's a note with this one," Donovan said shakily. "Congratulations. You're next."
"Let me see that," Torry said, grabbing the handkerchief. "The sniper is a woman. Military or police training with that level of skill. I'd say about 37 with that handwriting. First name is Ruby. This handkerchief is Ruby red and has her monogram."
"Ruby Jones!" Greg exclaimed. "She went to the Academy with me. She failed though. She didn't like working with others. She was too competitive, always trying to prove herself. She had a high level shooting badge and I think she trained on that rifle you mentioned before. I guess she was taking her revenge."
"I'll put out a warrant," Anderson said.
"Thanks," Donovan said to Torry. "I don't know what to say."
"Really?" Sherlock scoffed. "You're thanking her! She did the same thing I do! Well, not as perfectly but still!"
"She's different, Holmes," Donovan spat. "You wouldn't understand, freak."
"And with that I wish we had solved the case a little later," Torry mumbled. Donovan didn't hear her, but Sherlock did. Though he couldn't hold back a slight smile at that, he still felt a bit put off at Torry stealing his spotlight.
Meanwhile, once the others left the room, John looked at Erin with a smirk. "What?" She chuckled.
"America's only consulting detectives?" He teased.
"I couldn't help it," She replied. "We are fairly well known back in the colonies," She said with a posh British accent, making John smile. "We got invited to speak at the convention yesterday."
"Oh! Of course! You were the guest speakers! I actually wanted to come and see you but Sherlock got stuck on a case. It was really only a 3 but I couldn't get away."
"Ah," Erin sounded in agreement. "Yeah, that's happened to us too. Torry and I work together on every case. If one's there, so is the other."
"So which of you is Sherlock then?" John teased. "If I may do a little deduction of my own, you said you read the blog, you're obviously both fans, so it would only make sense that you've tried to compare yourselves."
"Well done, my dear Watson," Erin grinned. "Yes, we've done that. But we don't line up with either of you exactly. I guess it depends on the case. Some Torry picks up on right away, some I pick up on, and some we figure out together 50/50. And we've had some pretty crazy cases too! Nothing as interesting as yours I suppose though."
"Sounds like you make a good team. I, erm, wouldn't mind discussing some of those interesting cases with you," He said casually. "Perhaps the four of us could go out to dinner this evening?"
"That would be lovely!" Erin said. Just as she finished speaking, they heard yelling from Sherlock and Torry in the next room. They rush over to see what the commotion was. Sherlock and Torry were standing toe to toe right next to the body. Lestrade, Anderson and Donovan were just watching in surprise.
"What makes you think you can just waltz in here and take over my crime scene?" Torry yelled, cheeks bright red.
"Yours?" Sherlock scoffed. "London is mine! You're just some American knock off!"
"Knock off! Well then tell me, why didn't you notice the bullet casing? Hm?"
"I hadn't looked there yet! I was just about to!"
"Week excuse from a man who notices everything!" Torry smirked. "Tell me, what's your excuse now?"
"Excuse for what?" He hissed.
"Dilated pupils, elevated heart rate, rapid breathing, shall I list more?"
"I could ask the same for you," He replied. Torry blushed even brighter but maintained eye contact. Suddenly, after a moment of quiet, Sherlock leaned forward and kissed her quickly. "I like you," He whispered. "Dinner tonight?"
"Ok," Torry squeaked, abit dazed. Sherlock spun around, coat swishing behind him.
"John, let's go, we have to get ready," Sherlock stated. John shook his head and Erin chuckled.
"I guess they're just more blunt than we are," Erin joked.
"It would seem so," John replied, blushing slightly himself. "See you tonight then. We'll pick you up here."
"Ok, John," Erin said. "Well, well, well," She then said, turning to Torry. "Solve the case yet?"
Tumblr media
"And that's how Torry and I met," Sherlock stated. He smiled at his fiance who was sitting next to him.
"You forgot to mention how nervous you were that night getting ready," John adds, laughing. Erin and Torry chuckled lightly but Sherlock's ears tinted red. The older couple sitting across them by the fireplace smiled. Sherlock had brought John, Torry and Erin to his parents house to introduce the girls and make the big announcement.
"Well, we couldn't be happier for our son," Mummy said. "Or for you John. You're family too you know," She winked.
"So when's the happy day?" Sherlock's Dad asked. Torry and Erin were just about to reply but they were interrupted.
"Oh please!" Mycroft groaned. "Weddings are simply atrocious emotional events that I have no use for." Sherlock's face fell slightly.
"So I suppose our asking you to officiate would be out of the question?" Sherlock asked
"On the other hand," Mycroft said suddenly, a smile hinting at the corners of his mouth. "Perhaps I can make an exception just this once."

Oops I deleted my post. Thankfully I was only talking about last night and hadn't really gotten to write much of the day because I keep getting distracted.
I'm really glad to be in bed. I'm very tired. And I don't feel 100% but I do feel a lot better than I did yesterday. Today was really a good day and I do feel very happy.
Last night was a different story though. I was miserable and I couldn't sleep. I ended up going through Facebook and try and figure out who was married for my graduating class. Because this year is 10 years since I graduated from high school. Which is Wile to think about. I can't believe that that used to actually matter. My people would have reunions and things. You couldn't pay me to go to a reunion for my high school. And then I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible pain. It was like a charlie horse from my side all the way down my leg. I got up a few times cuz I thought I was going to be sick. I was up for a while and eventually I was able to take a Motrin and feel okay enough to lay down. But I was still in pain. James is 1000000 degrees all the time so his body heat lulled me enough to go back to sleep.
I woke up briefly when James was leaving for work. I didn't even feel him get out of bed. But he came and gave me a hug before he left. I really needed to keep sleeping though.
I let myself sleep in until almost 10. And that's been kind of normal right now just because it's cold and I'm tired and haven't been feeling good so I haven't been sleeping well. But it's not like I had a lot to do today. I got up and I got dressed. I had a bagel. I watched videos. I'm most of them watching those SCP read through ones and I've been really enjoying those. They're the perfect amount of Creepypasta but they don't have to have a conclusion which is always the weakness in a creepypasta. So it's been very nice just Mindless sort of creepy and fun.
I left here around 11:30. I biked over to dickblick to get Sharpies for the kids. Which are way more expensive than I thought they were. But ended up getting a great deal on 12 pen Sharpies for like $7. The woman said they were actually mislabeled because they should have been $12 but I want out in the mist occurring and she still let me have the price.
I left there and I went to 7-Eleven. I got lunch. And then I grabbed the bus to go to work. When I got there I found that a whole bunch of stuff I've been knocked over in our storage closet. I went to go talk to coach Banks who sort of runs lunch time. But parent was yelling at him about her child being suspended. So I noped out of there. I found another t-shirt at all. But I just cleaned it off it was fine. I ended up having a funny conversation with health aid because she wasn't sure if I was a student or a teacher. And I explained who I was. And she was just like I've never seen you here before. It was cute.
I found some new organizational tools for our cart. So now each table has their own basket with their own supplies in it. So there'll be no more arguing. So is very proud of myself for that and then me and Chelsea were able to just chill. There wasn't a lot that we needed to do.
And we had a really nice day. It was really small class today we only had about 11 by the end. Just with the snow that was coming in and there's cheerleading tryouts in basketball practice. I think the robotics team also just started up again. But that was nice. It was nice to just be able to connect with the couple kids that were there on a one to one level. And they made good art and that was really nice to see. We talked about foreground middle-ground and background. And how you can use line weight to show those different distances.
We also have the art store today. And the kids are already raised enough money to have a pizza party. I was very proud of them for donating to each other. And they got to have a cool thing over it. Will probably save it for next week. But I'm so very proud of them.
When I woke up this morning it was very heavy on my heart but I wanted to talk to Damien's mom. When he was brought to our class for the first time. The couple days before. I was warned that he was really tough to have in class. That he was on the Spectrum and that teachers found him very difficult. But his mom is great and that if there was ever an issue she would come and get him right away and not to worry about it. But that's not been my experience with Damien. He's wonderful. He's a sweet loving little boy. Sometimes he has breakdowns. Sometimes he can't focus. But he is always first to help me and he has a really sweet temperament. And so I really felt like I needed to say something to his mom today. She came early to pick him up because his sister was doing some kind of presentation at an event. And I pulled her aside and I was like Hey I just really want to let you know how much I enjoy Damien. And I told her everything and she started crying and gave me a hug. And you can just tell she works so hard with those two kids. She's a really good mom and I'm glad that Damien was able to be in our class. He's a good boy.
We finished up today. We did vocab in Jeopardy Style. Where they had to say the definition and then someone else had to give the vocab word in the form of a question. Only about half of them understand that but it was so fun. We played a game and then we wouldn't have snack and then it was time to go home. Me and chelsi got to get out of there by 5:30 which was awesome.
I got the bus and I was able to get back to my apartment only a couple minutes after 6. I packed up some stuff for dinner and then I went to James's place. He made Tex Mex and use some of the stuff that I brought with me. And we watched videos and we talked. He explained the game he made to me. Which has a whole lot of numbers in it is hard for me to get but seems to have a really nice system of rolling dice that I hope this DND friends enjoy. And we hung out for a while. And we talked. And then he walked me home.
It had started snowing and he likes walking in the snow so it wasn't completely one-sided. We just enjoy each other's company and we talked and had a nice walk back to my apartment. He said goodbye and he went back to his.
When I got here I checked the mail and Not only was my new rabbit phone case here. The old one was very matted and I wasn't able to brush it out like I was hoping. My new reindeer Furby arrived as well. I'm not sure what to name him yet but he's very soft. He doesn't seem to work. His he won't turn on. But that's okay. He's still very cute. He'll probably get packed away with the Christmas ornament ones as well once the winter is over so he'll be a nice new face to have out next year.
I'm in bed now. Just enjoying that it's actually nice and toasty in my bedroom for once. I'm going to plug in my phone though because it's dying. And then I'm going to try to go to sleep. I am working at constellation all day tomorrow and I'm hoping to do lesson plans. And then me and James are going to go see a play about Johnstown. And I am really looking forward to it. Because I love Cults. Especially murder cults.
I hope you all sleep great tonight. I hope that your animals are nice to you. And that you have a really nice day tomorrow. Good night everyone.

At least eight things PC laptops still haven't fixed
I've now gone through about three MacBook Pros since I started at Coraid in the UK eight years ago. Before that I exclusively used Dell laptops and various desktops with Ubuntu. I made the switch to Mac because of the horrid integration of the hardware with the software of the product itself. Sleep, hibernation and power management in general being the most painful experience. PC laptops back then were also a bit of carrying around a ton of bricks with a jet engine attached to it. So, I made the switch.
Recently I bought a "top of the line" Razer Blade 15" Advanced Model where the shopping criteria was 10th Gen Intel i7, Thunderbolt3, WiFi6 and a decent GPU to perform live broadcast video encoding on. This laptop is not my primary work laptop, it's custom bought for a multi camera video streaming rig and need workstation-like performance. I can't quite help myself using it for other things as it's incidentally faster than my old desktop workstation. So, after about a month of use, here's the review of things these PC laptop makers still don't get.
Non-power management and screeching fans
I've historically been a fan (no pun intended) of silent PCs. I buy coolers as big as the chassis can fit with large, slow fans. This is of course not possible in a laptop. How bad the temperature management in this device is completely beyond me. When I'm on battery, it steps down the CPU and only uses the Intel GPU. I can barely hear it and it's still very usable. The battery only last about an hour, but it's OK, it's very enjoyable to type on and have it in your lap. But as soon as I plug in the power and connect it to my Thunderbolt3 dock, it's "hold my beer" time and the fans go up in crescendo while 100% idle. No load what so ever. None of the shitty apps Razer preinstalled have no means to tweak this. I've read a few BIOS hacks you can perform on prior models of this laptop to tweak the C-states while on power. But really, have they not tested this thing in front of a real user in a home setting before deciding on the sound/performance levels? I totally get the high wind noise while using the GPU, playing games and rendering video, but not for typing up a blog post.
Howling in the night
I wake up every morning with the laptop on full jet. Some quick googling reveals that "Windows Update" will wake up the computer to check for updates. After it's done, it doesn't go back to sleep. This is the essence of poor software and hardware design. Not thinking about the overall user experience of the product.
A ton of brick
This laptop carry a 230W tax given it has a powerful CPU and GPU (well above the 100W maximum for power over Thunderbolt3). I understand this requires a large transformer. But why is this still a non-standard powerbrick where each vendor carry it's own proprietary connectors and voltages? Added frustration: additional power bricks are more expensive than Apple's and they've been unavailable to order for the last month (obviously it just became available while I just now checked again).
The dirty propeller
It's hard to compete with the aluminum die cast uni-body design of Apple, I get it. Just after I unboxed the laptop I could immediately see my fingers and palms on every surface that I had touched. How much would it take to have a coating that at least try resist the human residue, for a at least the first day? I also read on r/razer that some user had got his Blade a bit skewed out of the box. Phew, mine sure wasn't! Oh, wait... you were sat with it in your lap you said? I put it back on the desk and it's like a propeller. This makes me wonder, again, have they even field tested design before shipping it out?
Hardware is hard
I got my first blue screen of death (BSOD) within the first 24 hours. Plugging and unplugging USB devices while configuring the video streaming rig, but what caused the BSOD was unplugging the headset jack. A headset jack, an analog headset jack. In all fairness, I have not had a single BSOD or other "hangs" after that. Kudos!
Tumblr media
Another hardware/software related quirk is that I have an external Thunderbolt3 chassis with a video capture card in it. I read everywhere that this setup is supposed to be hot-pluggable, in awe it actually works, until I decide to carry the laptop from the studio up to my office and plug it into my Thunderbolt3 dock. The DisplayPort will work and activate, but that's about it. The USB ports, audio and miscellany is stone dead. Rebooting is the only way out of it. I wish there was a "safely remove TB3 device" option, but there isn't.
Realtek is probably the only sound chip manufacturer that exist in the world for PC laptops. For good or for bad. If I leave the laptop in the video streaming rig and it gets the idea of getting to save power, I come back to all sound recording inputs stutter and being distorted, requiring all apps that had the sound devices "open" to be restarted. I thank apps like this one to truly keep the computer alive. The Mac equivalent is called Owly and is nothing short of awesome.
Update 6/13/20 Today's Windows Update disabled the Realtek ALC298 sound IC. No outputs or inputs work. No, I'm not angry or surprised. This is the way.
You look like a piece of pixel art today
I remember flicking on the webcam the day I got the laptop. Are we spoiled with FaceTime cameras or are we? Holy dear lord the $3000 laptop has a decade old lens and sensor in that thing. It looks absolutely awful. Thankfully I don't intend to use the integrated camera but I feel for the folks who do.
Tumblr media
Razer Blade 15"
Tumblr media
FaceTime HD
All your ports are belong to me
I get it. You want to connect all your legacy crap you've dragged with you for the last two decades. But when is it enough? USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, SD card readers and I don't know what else. Why are PC laptops peppered with ports that are irrelevant or obsolete? Thunderbolt3 can carry all the ports to a dock and you barely ever use any of them on the go. This is where I truly praise Apple for putting the foot down. I'm still surprised my latest Macbook Pro came with a headphone jack but it's all USB-C/Thunderbolt3 combo ports that carry everything, including power. PC laptop makers: observe and learn!
Don't touch the touchpad
The Apple Magic Pad, is, magic. Nothing even comes close, is anyone even trying? I tried to find a cross-compatible external touchpad for Windows and Mac but was unable to find a solution unless I want to perform a series of blatant hacks or pay some 3rd party for Magic Pad driver for Windows. A related driver, Windows or hardware issue has caused the "stop tracking while typing" feature to work since I got it. Is the solution to re-install Windows you think?
Anything positive to add?
Bottom line is that I'm very happy with my purchase. It performs really well for what I got it for, end of story. I did not expect anything would've improved with PC laptops over the last decade and I was absolutely right. The user experience is grating and the "product" simply isn't there. We'll never see a unified software and hardware experience where the consumer is in the design center. I've yet used any of the Microsoft Surface products but I can imagine that in a decade or so we'll be able to see the infancy of a Macbook Pro experience on PC.

Yeah, it's been awhile. While I would like to say that I havent updated in awhile because I have been sooooo busy, or having some awesome adventure, the fact of the matter is that I haven't updated because I have had zero desire to do much of anything lately.
Depression has always been something that periodically has shown up in my life, but since A left, it has hit like a freight train every now and then. This isn't a case of being down in the dumps, or having the blues, this is pure, unadulterated, no desire to get out of bed and do anything, levels of depression. Now before you read this, and get all worried about me, I can assure you that I have never had suicidal thoughts, or have wanted to harm myself in any way shape or form. I have at times been paralyzed by this heavy sense of overwhelming sadness. This is all predicated on the fact that I am dealing with betrayal from people that I loved and trusted. Someone that I care about told me that it seems like I am not over the way my relationship with B ended, and I guess she is kinda right about that. It's not that I'm not over it so much, as it is the fact that this betrayal from the person who was the best man at my wedding has left these horrible scars. Unfortunately, every now and then something happens that rips these scars wide open and then I have to start the process all over again. Under normal circumstances this is an incredibly difficult thing, but trying to heal while being overwhelmed by depression is an entirely different animal. Trying to heal emotionally while being depressed is like trying to treat a stab wound while someone is continually beating the shit out of you. It just doesn't work. So I try to celebrate the small victories, hey I got out of bed and went to work, good job! I went to trivia with my friends instead of staying home and further isolating myself, 10 points to Gryffindor! I didnt sleep until 3pm on my day off, whoo hoo! (As you can see, my life has been so exciting these past couple of months) I am trying, I really am, but somedays I don't want to try, somedays I just want to withdraw from the world and go into, as my longtime friend Tanya calls it "hermit mode". These are the days where I really need to try harder.
Now, I'm not writing this because I want peoples pity, or attention, or anything of the sort. I'm writing this because sometimes life is really uncomfortable, and as a podcast that I have been listening to lately says, "we should talk about that" (plugging because it's a great podcast that tackles the uncomfortable things that we tend to avoid talking about). So I am posting this simply to start a discussion, to let anyone else who feels trapped by depression, that you are not alone in this. It's not an easy battle, but together we can beat this.

What are your favorite Sakura fanfics? I'm really desperate for a good Sakura fic I haven't read yet! Badass Sakura is preferable, but as long as she's awesome, i don't care. Thanks!! (: ps. I absolutely ADORE your writing/art. Keep up the amazing work!!!
:D THANK YOU!! :D :D :D Gosh that’s always a lovely thing to hear… thank you, I’ll try!
OKAY. SO.
My personal favorites are all older now lol Significantly. You might not see anything new on here womp womp…
LoneGothic on ffnet had Gunpowder (which was incomplete at six?seven chapters but it’s been shaved down to one chapter). It is a modern AU where the Akatsuki are a gang and Sakura witnesses Itachi and Deidara carry out a hit. I will always think of this story fondly lol…
Lady Silvamord’s (ffnet) Before the Dawn is really well written and realistic. Drama, romance, a little action, great POVs from different characters, great plot. She also had some short comedic stories and at least two other EPIC length Sakura fics (Lost and Found, and Bluebird) I mean, she could crank out some sharp, entertaining writing. I never got around to reading Bluebird but I’ll recommend just on her other writing.
I did, finally, at some point, read Oroburos69′s Freedom in the Eyes of Another and thought it was bloody fun. Like, actually bloody. Little bit of Gore. It was great. Sakura was perfect and weird and I just. It was a quick and enjoyable read. I would say it’s a fav of mine.
A lot of the time, though, fanfiction for me was hard to love because I have such specific wants in stories (and so I focused more on my own writing ahah…). and, yeah, that’s really all about personal preferences about persnickety things.
(How the author treats other female characters is always a HUGE thing for me. I need more than Sakura to get some growth and relevance. I like my Inos and Hinatas and Karins to get all the love as well.
And I usually prefer Sakura being treated as a fighter/combatant/kunoichi who’s intelligent and capable -if not, y’know, an Uzumaki jinchuuriki child, Uchiha prodigy, or Hatake genius- right away. Gad. I’m still not over how Sakura was never called a genius and recognized as such REPEATEDLY AS IS APPROPRIATE in the damn canon text).
ANYHOW.
OKAY. Forgot to mention Journey Through Night by Oreithyia. It features a pretty fun plot with a smart, medic-nin investigator Sakura. As the summary says: An epidemic forces the Kazekage to summon aid from Konoha. But from the horrors of disease to the ties of family and clan, from the fine line between executive and dictator to the complexities of international policy, nothing is ever so simple. –such a fun story with some great POVs! I definitely remember reading it as fast as I was able lol
General recommendations:
Tozette (tumblr link), I think, just. like. across the board writes a dynamic, proactive, and fun Sakura.
Amrun (ffnet) has written some Badass Sakura fics that I haven’t read -I don’t think- but we used to snark back and forth on NarutoForums back in the day about sexism and wasted potential in the manga lol So I’m sure she delivers for Sakura on that front…
DeGlace (ffnet) has recently finished Marrow, which for a long time was paused at chapter 11. I think Sakura is very clever in this story, if I’m remembering correctly. It’s been a few years, but I remember liking the story so I’m sure Sakura is treated well.
elle6778 (on ffnet) wrote The Lost One a few years ago, and it features a pretty intrepid Sakura, if I’m remembering correctly. I also really liked the plot, characterization, and thought it was an overall really enjoyable read.
I think I’ve plugged both Corrosion by Polarbaroness and Stray Thoughts by Bulldango before, too. But I’ll remind them that I’d still be happy to read their updates again ;P
Um. Shit. So, yeah, I’m not really reading fanfiction right now. SO I don’t know any currently-posting stories with an interesting Sakura that I can link to.
And I’ve probably forgotten some really obvious fics, too. I’m sorry! I’m unreliable.
But. If anyone who sees this would like to add some shoutouts, please do!! I love Sakura and I always ALWAYS support her fandom (who has always wanted more for her… continues to right the wrongs of her creator and those who control her u_u)
fuck, sorry about all the typos. that’s just my style. still.

An old coworker told me an story about an accident that totaled his truck a while ago. He went through a greenlight, and a lady ran a red and t-boned him, totaling his truck. She paid off a witness at the bus stop and it was basically those two against his word. Fortunately, the bus was coming behind and caught the accident on it's cam. He tracked the bus down, and was able to get the footage from the bus and saved himself from jacked up premiums. Here's some advice on picking a dash cam, and towards the bottom there will be some helpful advice on installing a dash cam legally. You heard that, there's a legal and illegal way of installing a dash cam. I don't know everything there is to know about dash cams, but I'm sure at least a handful of people might benefit from this. If you don't have a dash cam, start looking for one after you're done reading.Picking a dash camHere are some must have features when picking a dash cam:Find your price range- I'll be honest, right now isn't a great time to be spending money, but if you don't have a dash cam, you should seriously invest in one (when you can). That's right, this is an INVESTMENT. You're investing money into this in hopes that your insurance company won't jack your rates out the wazoo if you get in a car accident and the other driver pays off witnesses. There are some decent dash cams out there for $50, but I recommend spending at least $100 on one. I won't link or suggest a specific dash cam in order to protect the integrity of this post, but you get what you pay for, unless you get that $50-60 dash cam that I'm thinking of. There are some steals out there. Also, make sure that you get a good micro SD card as well. You can pick one up from Best Buy for less than $10.Automatic overlapping- Make sure it has "loop" recording so that it'll automatically replace old videos. If you have this, you'll just install it and it'll pretty much take care of itself until it breaks down, but checking to make sure that it's recording every time you put on your seatbelt isn't a bad idea (just do a quick glance at it to check that it's actively recording- usually indicates by a blinking red dot). Odds are, if you have loop recording, you'll have the ability to lock a video so it doesn't get overwritten as the card gets full.Automatic recording- Another must have for a dash cam is automatic on and off. Dash cams will usually plug into your cigarette lighter and most will turn on and off automatically based on whether the key is in the on/ off position. Don't get some cheapo one where you'll have to manually press a button to turn it on every time you get in your car... This is the equivalent of getting a major in Art History and a minor in computer science.Camera quality- Make sure that your dash cam has a reasonably clear camera. With dash cams, if you're able to make out the make and model of another car, you're good to go. As long as it's better than a gas station security camera, you're good to go for the most part. Unless you're able to shell out for something upwards of $150, then it probably won't be able to read the license plate of the car in front of you. I usually aim for 1080p or above just so that it'll look less like a pixelated mess on a computer screen in the event that you need to send the footage to somebody. You can always try to say enhance like they do on TV and watch as it magically unpixelates itself, but this has a lower chance of occurring than an entrepreneur major in college landing that sweet 6-digit salary job.Night time recording- This goes along with number 4, but don't buy a dash cam that suffers from astigmatism and can't record anything at night. With your headlights on, it'll blind the dash cam and everything that's seen in the light will just be washed out due to the contrast in light. Watch dash cam footage from both day and night. Amazon usually has users footage from that specific dash cam. Be the judge and decide whether or not you're okay with the quality, and if the footage is useful. If you're a cameraphile/ videophile, can you pretty please drop a comment describing what to look for in regards of camera specs?Audio recording- What? You'll only capture your three-year-old screaming at the top of their lungs for more goldfish crackers. Wrong. This feature can be completely useful or utterly useless. If it records audio, then it's gonna be up to YOU to use it if you get into a vehicular incident. If you're able to read off the license plate of the car that swiped you, cut you off, and ran for it, then this will be valuable for tracking it down and confirming the identity of the driver if it comes to that. Like I said, most dash cams will have a tough time capturing license plates, but if you're able to read of the license plate of a car, you’ll have an easy time identifying the car and driver that ran off. These are just the "must haves" for me. If I'm missing anything that you feel is a must, then feel free to mention it below and I'll edit it in later. Here are some features that aren't necessary, but can definitely be nice to have. You can skip this section and go down to the next oneTemperature resistance- If you live somewhere sunny, this is a must for you. The inside of your car get hotter than Satan's asscrack on a sunny day, and you'll want a camera that can hold up against that temperature, so check what it's rated for. Edit, u/mattisstillhere mentioned dash cams with super capacitors. These super capacitors are able to hold onto electricity for a longer period of time, and do a lot better in hot conditions, so check these out if you live somewhere with a lot of sun.Gravity sensor- This is just a sensor that looks for a sudden change in g-force. Cameras that have these advertised usually come with a lithium battery that can begin recording if it feels a sudden jolt while the car's off. I've personally never been able to validate this feature, so take this one with a grain of salt.Wide angle view- A wide angle will capture more information at the cost of detail. Honestly this is more of a preference. I'd personally recommend a wide angle just because it'll capture more of what you’re seeing as opposed to just capturing what's directly in front of the lens.GPS/ Speed logger- Mine definitely doesn't have this feature. You'll only see it in higher end dash cams that cost upwards of $150. This might be useful if you're trying to prove that you weren't speeding, but once again, take this feature with a grain of salt. Save your money and be reasonable when picking a dash cam. Don't be that elitist that brags about their $350 dash cam.WiFi Data Transfer- Some dash cams advertise that this feature. What it does is it allows you to connect your phone to the dash cam and be able to load videos on your phone with it. I've had little success with mine, but if you have fast cellular data, this might be useful during a police report (hopefully you won't ever have an accident that's serious enough for a police report), but once again, this feature has proved gimmicky for me, and transferring video files can take a few long minutes.10ft cable- My dash cam came with a 10ft cable that's made the dash look a lot nicer. Most dash cams use a micro-usb cable, so it wouldn't be too hard to find a cable this size, but it's nice if your dash cam came with one. Use it correctly, more on that below.Rearview/ passenger cam- Some dash cams have cameras in both the front and the rear. This is definitely another useless feature unless you're a rideshare driver/ have an extremely clear view of the rear and happen to get rear ended. Even then, if you get rear ended, a regular dash cam and damage to your vehicle will be more than enough prove that you were stopped.Advice for installing and using a Dash CamI'm kind of happy that you've made it this far. Typing something other than college essays has been fun. I get to use my voice and type informally. I hope I've made this dull topic a little bit more fun to read. Honestly if I read my own post, I would've clicked out 500 words ago, so thank you for sticking around. I hope you install decide to install a dash cam if you haven't already.Read the manual and learn the buttons and what they do. Seriously, read the manuals for everything, your car, your fridge, everything. They all have valuable information that make using the product a lot easier and more intuitive. In some states, it's illegal for your dash cam (or anything for that matter) to be obstructing your view of the road. Make sure that the spot that you mount your dash cam is compliant with local laws. Don't let the other insurance company sucker punch you and use this as a reason to not pay out your claim. If your dash cam came with an extra long cable, use it. Loop it around the passenger side of the vehicle and gently push it between where the windshield meets the roofliner, and run it under your glovebox. Use some clear tape or adhesive clips to (discreetly) secure it to your windshield.Buy a high quality micro SD card. I recommend the ones that are advertised as "high endurance", as these are meant to withstand the constant recording and deleting of large files. The size of the micro SD card doesn't really matter, but a 32GB once is what I recommend. It should hold about 2 hours (don't quote me on this) worth of video at 1080p. If you get in a wreck, your micro SD card will have the footage on it, and you can upload it into a computer to save that footage. If you get into a car accident and you know you're at fault, you're not legally obligated to give footage to the other driver or a cop unless there's probable cause that you committed a crime, or if they have a search warrant. Once again, I’m writing this post from the US so check your country’s laws.Edit: Added spacing for a few walls of text. Fixed some grammar stuff too.I hope you won't ever need to use the dash cam, but 77% of drivers will be in an accident during their lifetime. That's the majority of us, and the average driver will be involved in 3 to 4 accidents in their life. Get a dash cam. Cover your butt and capture other drivers doing stupid things. Make an idiot driver compilation. Hopefully you aren't driving anywhere non-essential during these times, but if you are, take care and be careful. Stay healthy, and drive safe. via /r/LifeProTips
