You're trying to sleep in a house unfamiliar to you. It's much noiser than you are used to. There are bumps in the night.

The occasional blips of the fire alarm to remind you it's still working, the clink, clank, clunk of the noisy pipes. The low gentle raw of the heating that's not constant, because the heating is set to keep the house above a certain temperature.

The little groans, creaks, and even the occasional pop coming from the walls, and floorboards. That's the outside temperature, making the wood contract, fighting with the warmer inside temperature. It is freezing outside. You're a scientist these things although annoying, don't phrase you. These sounds would be here in the broad daylight, they'd just be drowned out by other noises. They just stand out in contrast to the silence of the night.

The odd murmur and moan of a young child sleeping you know is there.

BUT THEN. BUT FUCKING THEN... The muffled singing of an adult voice. That sounds as though its coming from the next room over. The one the children are in. You know you are the only adult in the house, it's the very reason why you are here in the first place.

Adults and children sound very different singing. It's loud enough that you can hear the switch between rhythmic humming, and bits of singing, but not quite enough that you can hear the lyrics.

It's not me half dreaming it, as I slip between states. Because I'm wide AWAKE now... Because seriously what the actual fuck!! Because this doesn't sound like the start of a horror at all.

Yeah, I'm absolutely getting sleep tonight...

I need to wash/braid my hair, flat iron my wig, read 6 chapters of this book, clean up my house, feed myself, do my nails, and honestly probably a bunch of shit I fucking can't think of right now.

It's the afternoon and I'm still laying in bed. Not even doing the reading task just fucking laying here half ass watching some ancient alien shit and on my phone being unproductive.
