I think for every feelgood story about a person who got an ADHD diagnosis later in life, tried out meds and found them incredibly useful, and is now thriving, probably runs their own business and maybe even thinks of ADHD as their superpower, Finnish media (and maybe international media too, I dunno if these stories are a trope elsewhere) should be obligated to publish two stories about people who are long-term unemployed, unable to work and/or in prison because of their ADHD.

Just saying.

#it's. like #more power to those superpower people their experience is valid etc. #but it paints an extremely unbalanced picture of the ADHD spectrum when media only features them #and probably makes some people think all ADHD experiences follow that pattern when really only some lucky individuals have lives like that #I'm still thinking about the time the councillor at this rehab thingy I'm doing told me I probably just haven't found my ADHD strengths yet #I very coldly told them I consided it a disability with no strengths whatsoever but in retrospect I think I should also have bitten them #just for good measure #...though when I asked them if they would ask a blind person about their blindness strengths they started talking about hearing better #so I dunno if their attitude could be fixed even via biting #anyway! my personal experience is that it has the word disorder for a reason and also it sucks #so when's my time to be the star of my own ADHD feelgood superstar interview? #personal.
