Do I think he's doing the right thing about Palestine? No, absolutely not. It infuriates me and breaks my heart and makes me want to work harder to push our politicians to be better.

Do I realize that as political allies of Israel, the only choice we have is to uphold our agreements, and that falling to do so means we have zero leverage to push the Israeli government to stop? Yep, sure do.

Do I recognize that as the President of the United States, Biden has zero power over the Israeli government? Yes, because I'm not a fucking idiot.

Do I know without a doubt that any Republican would be 1000 times worse, and actively calling for the continuation of the genocide? Yes.

Will Trump (I do not understand how this is even an option, it makes me incandescent with rage) be even worse? Will he send bombs personally? Will he use his friendship with Netanyahu to gain valuable tips on how to oppress the people of the nation he heads? Absolutely 100%

I know all of this, and if you can think past the immediate outrage and superiority it makes you feel to talk about your protest vote for a third party that will not win and not help anyone and only help elect actual fascists, you know it to! So my partner works in politics and it’s clear that, as we approach Election Day, turnout has been exactly as expected - AWFUL. Even in a state like ours where the ballot is LITERALLY DROPPED OFF AT YOUR DOORSTEP with ballot drop boxes everywhere, voters just aren’t showing up. It doesn’t get any easier than that, but US voters still refuse to exercise their privilege. I just cannot understand apathy at time like this.

IT IS NOT JUST ROE AT STAKE. IT IS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. IT IS TRANS RIGHTS. IT IS MARRIAGE EQUALITY. IT IS DISABILITY RIGHTS. IT IS THE SAFETY OF FUTURE ELECTIONS. VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT - BECAUSE IT DOES.

More than every passive aggressive shit for brains on this website telling me I deserve to me racially harassed for not giving Democrats my soul?

A fucking email from a fucking HERBS AND SPICES STORE that unlike you wretched cunts ACTUALLY HAD VOTER REGISTRATION HELPLINES IN IT.

Every time one of you godforsaken freaks tells me to 'get out and vote' like its cutely trivial and didn't take months of desperate phone calls just to register (IF my registration even WORKED THIS TIME).

If you, like me, are struggling with registration or poll access, try contacting your STATE board of elections.

Request that they send you TWO copies of their registration guidelines. Collect any documents listed in them.

Then, contact your LOCAL board. Tell them you would like to register IN PERSON IF POSSIBLE.

Bring your documents and the two copies of the guideline AND a working cell phone.

If you get ANY trouble AT ALL tell the local person you will call the state board to confirm their registration requirements. Be polite, but do not leave. Put the phone on speaker.

Most of the time, the local person who is doing Actual Serious Federal And State Crimes will give up at that point. If not, the person at the state board will generally outrank and overrule the local one.

Make a note of the names of both the local and state official.

Then, and this is the most important part:

CONFIRM YOUR REGISTRATION WAS FILED.

It may take a day or two for your registration to appear.

Unfortunately, if it's been a week, you're going to have to repeat the process.

Take the names you noted previously, and contact the state board again. Report that these people denied you registration on this day, in spite of you providing these documents, then list all the required papers you collected.

The person at the state SHOULD be able to direct you from there, but the process varies hugely by state.

Good luck to you all.

ETA: I was able to vote eventually, BTW. It took far more work than it should have. Physical injuries were sustained. But I did get to vote!!

Have u forgotten u can vote 3rd party? I know there will likely not be enough people voting independant party for a non red or blue president to be elected THIS voting cycle. But. If enough people vote independent maybe america will wake up and realize there are more than 2 shitty options. (It takes time to change, and change for the better)

Look the problem with the blue no matter who mindset is that these people know you are going to vote for them no matter what. Not because you necessarily like them but because at least they aren’t the other guy. Which gives dems absolutely no incentive to not be a piece of shit. Like do you get it? voting for someone as damage control in an election does not mean you can't heckle the shit out of them once they are in office. You elect the officials you think you and groups you belong to have the better chance of pressuring into better policies, and who will do the least amount of damage in the meantime.

Democrats are relentless towards their elected officials-- at least the ones I know who are actually politically active are. They call, they protest, they campaign. Plus, as you're demonstrating, people on the left do not blindly vote (that's the other guys). It's totally unrealistic to say that elected Democratic officials just think they have an easy ride.

people can and should vote for whoever they want to in local elections, primaries, etc. But in the big one, the president one, the one in the fall, voting third party is like drawing up plans for a nice new extension on a house that is actively being set on fire. Voting for president is damage control. Voting is your hard-fucking-won civil right. Voting in smaller elections can also be damage control; when there is no-one to feel "good" about voting for, you vote for the less-worse one, because maybe that one is more receptive to the idea of climate change being real than the other one, and you can work with that.

Sometimes you get to vote for the option you align with the most. But sometimes voting is about picking the option with the cracks that you can dig your fingers into and pull open. Or at least the one who won't start taking a sledgehammer to civil rights and environmental protections (and, and) with all his buddies while you work to build support behind a candidate you can feel good about voting for in four years.

Biden has shown he can change his policies over time, with pressure. Democrats can be swayed in ways Republicans cannot. One major party can be pushed more left. The other one will drag us into a darkness that I don't even want to think about. The presidency is about so much more than just the individual sitting in the Oval Office.

Voting is strategic. It is strategic. It is not negative moral karma to vote strategically. It is one action amidst all the other actions you can take to fight for the future you want.
