no actually, they did not. there were reasons for everything that happened and just because everyone is so quick to judge things these days doesn't mean it needs to happen to them. whilst in the first book there was some initial behaviours that do support the claim, there were reasons behind them and also this is how enemies to lovers works !! they BECOME lovers. there is such a thing called a redemption arc?? not to mention we get an apology from cardan for everything he has done. toxicity is not what was in their relationship - it was ferocity. The ferocity of their love.

So let's all please stop labelling everything to ever exist toxic and focus on the people who actually need support from their toxic partners / relationships

EDIT: I would just like to clarify that I meant all this for when jude and cardan were in an actual romantic relationship together! This is by no means condoning what happened at the beginning of the books as that was most definitely wrong. I DO NOT condone any form of toxic relationship. I was trying to point out that once they were in an actual romantic relationship then they were NOT toxic and this is what some people argue they were. Apologies for any misconceptions!

Relationships don't have to be transactional. They don't even have to be 50/50. The idea that a "good relationship" is split down the middle, where nobody acts like people, and instead vends out appropriate cookie-cutter responses and dialogue is genuinely harmful.

A good relationship is one wherein the person/people involved are happy. You don't have to give, you don't have to take. You can enjoy each other's company and be together. If there comes a time when that need changes, then the person who should know is whomever is in that relationship with you. This isn't solely about romantic or sexual partners, this goes for platonic friends or otherwise anybody who spends enough time with each other to establish some type of relationship with each other.

#relationships #kill the capitalist in your head that says everything MUST have a profit value #whether or not that profit is a physical material form is not the point #and kill the person in your head that says that the only relationships that matter are the ones you are prescribed #please don't grind out relationships like you grind levels on a video game character #i just keep seeing people talk about how relationships where you aren't materially benefitting or whatever aren't 'worth it'#like??? are we not social creatures anymore?#and there is a difference between 'cannot be 50/50' and 'refuses to even try to be a part of the relationship'

The more times I re-watch Lost the madder I get that ANYONE still wants to leave the island once they discover there are showers and processed foods. What more do you even need? Smartphone-induced insomnia?? Office jobs????? Robocalls??? Vacuuming???? INCOME TAX????????

Now that I've finished dungeon meshi I have to say, while I understand the disappointment with fandom's constant obsession with shipping two dudes in fandom typical ways and ignoring the women/men that don't fit a certain mold and basically ignoring the entire rest of the story...

People acting so indignant that people would do gay or even straight shipping, because this manga is such a super women-led yuri show that's all about the power of Marcille's all-consuming love for Falin, are absolutely fucking bonkers and have lost the plot.

That is not to say that these shippers are not insane or can't be annoying in the typical ways that they are, or that Marcille/Falin aren't the most shippable pairing and just about the closest you're gonna get to something romantic in Dungeon Meshi (it's a platonic ass story and I love that), or that it wouldn't be nice for the fandom around something to stay mostly devoted to the closest to a canon pairing most shippable F/F ship. It would. But like. I don't know I'm kind of upset by that attitude now

And my intention is not to be super negative about Marcille/Falin fans, because they are certainly not all like this, it's just. WHOO! That is just so not remotely what Dungeon Meshi is about to a degree I still wasn't prepared for despite being aptly warned.

#dungeon meshi tag #like this isn't a case where you'd have to shove every female character out the way to do your gay shipping exactly.#Again. I would not call these men very shippable with each other. And I would never tell anyone not to bitch and be snobby.#Bitch and be snobby always!#I'm just saying this attitude more than anything else is what gave me a different impression of what the show would be like #and the refusal to engage with a work for what it is is one of the annoying things about fandom shipping culture #like I wasn't expecting the relationship between Marcille and Falin to be SO understated. I wasn't expecting the bathroom hands #to basically be *it* with Marcille and Falin's interactions. Like there's just so little between them. Falin is barely in it.#And being super indignant that people would dare to ship Marcille with what the story clearly acts like is basically boy Falin #a character she actually spends the entire manga with and has a developed relationship with and that she clearly loves #(I think in general there are a few too many posts to my liking that toe a line towards 'gay shipping icky' for my tastes. But I get it)#I don't think I've been this gaybaited by something on tumblr for close to a decade which is also part of what's grinding my gears

correct me if I'm wrong but I was just thinking about the roykeeley in season two of it all, and that fight where Keeley loses it at Roy for being clingy because she can't handle how close they are now that they work in the same building but like,,, Keeley and Roy would have been working in the same building while dating for a good chunk of season one as well.

She started working at Nelson Road before Jamie was even sent back to Manchester. They would of had months working in the same building, so either Roy has always been that clingy and Keeley just didn't mind at first, which I found doubtful given that it only takes her like a week to blow up at him for it in season two, or Roy being clingy is an out of character thing for him to be doing that should've raised some kind of red flag to friends and loved ones that I feel like from what we know about Keeley as a character would've been treated with more empathy than she actually had in the show.

#i'm going off of memory so this might not be anything #but wasn't one of her complaints that he sat quietly in her office reading when they were on break?#girl how is that being clingy and not just regular levels of wanting to spend time with your partner?#I stand by that Roy wasn't in the wrong for that #I actually stand by Roy not being in the wrong for MOST of his relationship with Keeley #I don't even think he was wrong for breaking up with her #I will not ever view breaking off a relationship you aren't happy in as selfish #and I don't care how much the show tries to make me view him as selfish for it or like he threw something good away #no he didn't #just because Keeley was hurt by being broken up with (understandable reaction) does not mean Roy did the wrong thing by breaking up with he #he looked at the way their relationship was going and saw that he wouldn't be happy if he stayed so he left #and the show tried to frame that as a bad thing #“maybe i should've just stuck around and enjoyed it”#no sir that's not how these things work #staying in a failing relationship just because you don't want to be alone isn't healthy you did the right thing #your career and your love life aren't metaphors for each other #and let me be clear Roy and Keeley were 100% a failing relationship right from the start of season 2 with the fight that inspired this post #keeley's feelings about the breakup aren't more valid then Roy's just because she's the hurt party #and they clearly broke up amicably if Keeley is willing to sit down and tell Phoebe about it with him #she wasn't jilted or wronged in any way and the show framing it like that grinds my fucking gears

Me reading a cool new novel: hah wow this is cool it has a neat premise and a promising plot line let’s see our protagonist level up and learn how to use his new power in interesting and cool ways—

#it was cool at first but now I’m grinding my teeth like wtf #I was okay with it at first bc like. he defeats the beautiful cold hearted prodigy by a hairs breadth and we get this sad backstory for her #which could be better’d by the MC who doesn’t fear her and can teach her how to socialize and become a brighter happier person through their #developing friendship and potentially romantic relationship and it could have led to character development for both of them as they struggle #through the feeling of being cast aside as an ‘other’ by society and learning how to stumble through a relationship that involves #communication and admittance and honesty #something our MC and FL can’t get through their mentors #instead we get her genuine attempts at becoming friends being brushed off by him who assumes she’s going to eventually want a romantic #relationship by the end of it and ARGHHXHHD she’s a shy person!! she’s trying her best!!! you asshole!!!! and then the author has the #AUDACITY #to make her continue yearning after this guy who doesn’t give 2 shits about her and she’s only used as a support character for the #ensuing battle and then he promptly leaves her behind for his own adventure #and don’t even get me STARTED on the lack of compatibility with the other women in this story #they aren’t even being used as potential love interests they’re just there so the author can say he added strong female characters and then #IMMEDIATELY turns around and makes them fawn over this 19 yr guy who cAn pRoTeCt ThEM AnD HEs sO cOoL FUCK #I was holding out but now he just annoys me dude this is why I don’t like reading male lead perspectives if there’s a DROP of romance #it ruins it! romance is dead no one knows what chemistry is they only want to be fawned over by women to stroke their egos #not a reblog

#stormy shouts #i'm noticing things... i must edit... i have to rectify.... i MUUUUUST RAAAAAGH #there are whole sections i think that i can word a lot better #see ch4 was also another thing; i had no idea what i was doing with art therapy still #and i had switched to a harry pov bcs i thought bringing harry and heather* in would be interesting #and make the overall narrative richer obviously like a relationship is a two way street #storytelling 101 get with the program #but a lot of it just feels stilted and descriptions feel clinical and very tell-y once again so i need to do some maintenance #like it's not the worst it could be i just think it could be a lot better with where i am now i suppose #ch4 is very much like..... several months to years old writing atp so 😁 [grinding my teeth]#ANYWAYS #art therapy
