Imagine you live in pelican town. The new farmer has been here a couple weeks now and seems to be settling in, except... He's picking the weirdest friend choices. Like sure it's not weird to befriend the local fisherman, especially when he has an interest in fishing himself, but you're pretty sure you've seen him rooting through the Saloon's garbage with the local homeless man. As well, he keeps harassing the poor guy who works at Joja even though you KNOW he doesn't want to be friends with him.

And since you're on the topic of weirdness, isn't it odd he seemingly runs everywhere at a full sprint? Or just... Eats entire raw fish while fishing for "energy reasons"...

Despite all that, it's too early to call him off putting or anything... He has been engaging in town traditions, and he's started helping out with the old community centre. He's probably like the rest of you. Someone with a few quirks, that will fit in with the valley great!

Btw if you come on holidays and stay at an AirBnb instead of an actual registered hotel I hate you personally. Not "I hate the gentrification and touristic massification and the way we can't live in our homes and are forced to move away because of tourism" in an abstract way- No, not just that. I hate you.

#I'm from a seaside town that has become popular with tourists who come for the beach and the mediterranean climate #and the typical whitewashed walls of mediterranean coastal towns #in just a few years the average rent has gone up so much that now the average rent id #*is over 1000€ per month #one thousand! #that's a whole salary! #in the past 2 years they've been building a new neighbourhood. they've destroyed the vinyeards to make a new neighbourhood that will make #the town 1/3 bigger than it is. that's a lot. but all those houses are luxury houses with private swimming pools for rich foreigners (we #already have 2 private British schools high schools and college(in the british sense)/baccalaureate where their kids go and never have to #interact with locals. I teach some of those kids and they're very prejudiced against locals and very bigoted against the catalan language #(which ofc they never bother to learn) #there's a law in catalonia that says that for every certain amount of houses you build you are obligated to build a certain percentage of #affordable housing. so in this new neighborhood they built the bare minumum affordable housing which is still too expensive for us #and since there's so few of them everyone is competing to get them. the city hall and the bank have had to make an official competition for #them but you only classify if the renr would not be more than 1/3rd of your salary which is impossible. my cousins who are in their mid 30s #and have been working a good qualified job for 15 years (and their partners too) are considered too poor to be considered for the #affordable housing #everyone is having to move out to other cities away from their friends and family and current jobs. the only jobs left here soon will be #mostly directed at tourists #and the only way to continue living here if you're a normal person and not rich is if you're an only child who one day might inherit the #parents' house #but we look around at what's happening in nearby cities and we see the next step which will be airbnb taking the houses that are left #in many places (I've posted about thia before) there aren't any flats for rent or sell anymore that isn't an airbnb #I'm still lucky in my town when compared to other places like Barcelona which are already full of the airbnb plague #actualitat #airbnb #tourism #touristic massification #gentrification

Do you ever think about how Fakir, after him and Ahiru finally broke everything that kept the town of Goldkröne in the ghostly hands of its writer, after they finally have some air of peace over the town finally being able to live in its intended early 2000s environment, that Fakir still feels at times like it's not real and that for a while he fears that if he closes his eyes it'll be back in Drosselmeyer's control. Like it just doesn't feel real to him during that first year of calm, until he feels the dull pain on his recovering hand injury and Ahiru who follows him without a pendant anywhere to be found.

He doesn't feel it's real, the calm finality of this town, but he makes sure to feel the scar on his hand. And he makes sure to hold the little duck and realize that she is who she has always been. Him and the town are finally living peacefully.

A small tool carved from a fruit tree seed. Energy to power the enchantment has seemingly run-out long ago, and the method of recharging is unknown - but, based on the appearance, it's very likely that this was once used for detecting magic. Usually, looking through the glass center would highlight areas of higher magical energy concentration present in the viewer's environment, even if they were otherwise obscured to the naked eye. While this form of enchantment itself is highly advanced, the craftsmanship of the item is far less neat or complex than what might be typically seen in similar devices. It may have been made as part of training/practice, or as a hasty replacement for a previous tool that had broken.

REALLY advanced mages could sense magic around them (to varying degrees of pinpoint accuracy of location #) without even having to use any external device. But for a majority of people there's really no way to know someone is using magic near #you unless you either see visual proof or if it's strong enough to feel effects from it (since magic is kind of like radiation in that the #higher energy/more of it youre exposed to the more it damages you/can make you sick/etc.) and even then most people would just be like #'hmm why do I feel so nauseous and bad out of nowhere?' likely wouldn't directly think to link it to magic. Thus the only really reliable w #way isto just hone your senses over like 500 years as you become an expert mage - OR use enchantments like these. But a 'sense magic' encha #ntment is not as common as a just 'magic is not allowed here' enchantment. If you wanted to prevent magic from being usedin a space #it's easier to just put up a broad barrier enchantment around that space than to have some sort of Magic Sensor to pick out if it's being #done and then handle each individual case of it . etc. etc. These sort of things can have their uses (especially for people investigating #things or trying to be secretive about detecting something etc.) but are less common - especially in this form (where visuals are used. itd #be more likely to jsut have like 'piece of metal that gets warm or cool depending on magic nearby'.) ANWAY so this is why it's a notable #object. Though a majority of the realm is not very magic literate - if you were a researcher or a mage and found this at a pawn shop you'd #definitely be like 'oohhh!! :0 inch resting... ' if not you might just be like 'oh cool necklace!' lol #also love the quick 2min ''costume'' for the image of it being used. literally just 'wrap yourself in scarves from the waist up' and slap o #a wig and ears lol #on this blog I guess since it's worldbuilding related and technically art.. maybe more like crafting? i felt the need to doodle this scene from sannan-san hakumyu because like... it's just so endearing? shion's chizuru really captures the wholehearted dedicated pining she has for him in his route (i mean, you really gotta CHASE this man). honestly she's in top three of my favorite chizurus. and of course, teruma's sannan-san really did grow on me. i was used to mikata's sannan-san (since i'm a hakumyu boomer), but i adore both their portrayals and voices.

haven't drawn hakuouki in a hot minute, but it'll always have a special place in my heart.

#so first of all i'm not jewish. #but i feel like i occupy a relatively weird position with respect to judaism. #because the neighbourhood in which i grew up was like...30-50% jewish? #it was jewish enough that the local families requested and got a hebrew immersion programme at the local elementary school #that operated in parallel to the english programme that i attended #and about half of my friends growing up were jewish. #and so i absorbed a lot of the surface-level details of the religion by a sort of osmosis #like...i knew the dates and significance of the various jewish holy days #and i knew a smattering of phrases in hebrew (phonetically); most of them apparently quite rude #and we occasionally did jewish religious songs in choir (some of them admittedly lifted from the 'Prince of Egypt' soundtrack) #and once when i was in high school i was on a trivia team; and we asked a run of questions about judaism; #and i was the only one who knew them even though (i swear to god) i was the non-Jewish player on either team #(and then when i was much older i almost married a jewish enby and i would even have tried to convert for them #but our relationship fell apart for unrelated reasons) #but one of the things that was drilled into me when i was growing up (by my dad who grew up under similar circumstances) #was that you don't criticise Israel; it's antisemitic to criticise Israel #(which made for a lot of fraught moments as a teenager given that i was watching the second Intifada on the news) #and the thing is even now in the face of what seems pretty unambiguously to be a genocide against the Palestinians #i find that i'm more circumspect about criticizing israel than i would be just about any other country under the same circumstances #like i was writing things like 'fuck saudi arabia' when they were murdering houthis in yemen #but 'fuck israel'? #even though a little harsh language is least of what that regime deserves #ugh #i feel like i'm privy to the death of a dream that was never even mine. #personal #religion

Nothing's happened to TRT, fortunately! It's still going, and we're up to Chapter 156 at present. I'm also 50k words away from that special shiny 1 mill wordcount! If I had to separate it all, I'd say it's about 5 books long now.

Got Charlie to hold the other end of a red thread at a con this summer for our photo! It is now proudly framed on my wall!

I threw a couple funny TRT-related buttons and stickers up on Redbubble for a few who requested them.

There WAS a large delay in posting just after I met Charlie in June, since I wound up getting covid which took me out for a few months chronic illnesses are lovely. Still recovering and my heart's fucked up, so updating is a bit slower, but it's still happening! Latest chapters posted about a week and a half ago. <3

Meanwhile in the past year, I: lived through the worst blizzard in my city's history and got stuck in my house for about 5 days, got covid from removing my mask for a photo with Charlie at a con, wound up sick with it for a couple months which led to some long covid symptoms and my heart being fucked up - that second one prompting an ER visit and a scheduled visit to a cardiologist in a week, discovered my elderly cat has cancer and is also some sort of mutant with unidentifiable cells that the doctors want to study after his eventual death, had a massive leak in my dining room ceiling that turned into a huge hole because apparently there was a pipe no one ever bothered to replace in the years this house has had plumbing cause that thing was ANCIENT, but I got to meet Charlie and my friends at the con in June, so I got that going for me, which is nice!
