Beloved Part 1 Director’s Commentary
****
Beloved: My Everything
“Adad! Mama! Look!”
Arien was sprinting down the hallway towards the council room, newly lost tooth in hand as she called out for her father. Bursting through the double doors, the seven-year-old ran the length of the room before jumping into Thorin’s lap, proudly grinning to show him the new gap in her teeth.
Sitting next to your husband, you stifled a giggle as Thorin examined the tooth, looking like he was examining a precious piece of metal because of how focused he was. Meanwhile, the rest of the council was in various states of annoyance or fond disapproval of the meeting, Balin shaking his head with a smile at the picture the royal family was painting.
It was true you were an odd group. After adopting Arien on the quest for Erebor and reclaiming the mountain, your future had seemed uncertain while Thorin’s life hung in the balance. But he had recovered, and the two of you had been married in a stunning ceremony, with a toddler Arien placing the queen’s crown on your head. The dwarves had been worried at first about having a human queen and princess, but your calming effect on Thorin and Arien’s general cuteness had quickly won them over. Of course, the fact that your first council meeting ever had started with you walking in and throwing knives in rapid succession so that they speared the table between each of the council members (except Balin’s) hands may have given them a healthy fear of you as well.
Now, six years later, the kingdom was thriving. Trade with Dale was stronger than ever, and the uneasy alliance with the elves had grown into something more tolerant. In fact, Kings Thranduil and Bard would be visiting in five days for the anniversary of the Battle of the Five Armies, as it had come to be known.
The year after the battle was a hard one. Thorin and his nephews were grievously injured, and while they healed it had been up to you and Balin to run the kingdom. On the first anniversary of the Battle, the mood in Erebor was noticeably somber. Although the king and princes had healed, it didn’t seem as if the kingdom would ever fully recover. You had noticed this, and remembering that an elven envoy, with the king, was in Dale, had mustered up a feast and invited the men and elves to what would become a yearly tradition.
Now, you were in the throes of planning the event with the council.
“That tooth is lovely, darling. Now go play so that Mama and I can finish work, ok?” Thorin pressed the tooth back into Arien’s hand. “And take good care of this!”
Arien left the room with a beaming smile, waving at all of the councilors.
Days later, Arien burst into the room you shared with Thorin.
“Mama! Adad! Wake up! The elves are coming today!”
Thorin groaned. “Arien. How many times do I have to tell you that you should not be this excited about elves? You should be happier to see orcs than you should be to see elves.”
She grinned, ignoring him and throwing open the curtains, the sunlight streaming through the windows setting her dark skin aglow.
“Arien, no.” You gestured for her to close them, shielding your face from the early morning sun.
“But Mama they’re coming today! Imma see Sigrid and Bain and Tilda, and Uncle Bard and Uncle Thranduil and Leggy!” She pranced about the room, gesturing as she talked about everyone.
You smirked at Thorin, who had one arm thrown over his face, hair splayed on the pillow. His bare chest was glowing in the sunlight, but you were focused on the expression of annoyance you could barely see under his arm. Thorin was extremely disapproving of the fact that your daughter called Thranduil ‘Uncle,’ and adored Legolas so much. Personally, you thought it was great, helping to bridge the divide between the kingdoms. You also were friends with the Elven-King, him having sheltered you during the whole Arkenstone fiasco, and Legolas was one of your good friends as well.
“I suppose we should get up.” You shooed Arien out of the room, into her adjoining set in the royal wing, before turning back to your husband. You leaned down to kiss him.
“C’mon, Thorin. We really should get up.” You pressed a trail of kisses down his jaw, hoping to coax him up.
He groaned, sitting up. “Fine. I suppose I should look my best to upstage the elves.”
You sighed. “If that’s what gets you up then so be it.”
Thorin smirked at you, standing up and grabbing a leather tie from his wardrobe, and binding his hair back so that it cascaded down his back. You walked over to him, hugging him from behind.
“You know that Arien and I will always love you more than the elves, right?”
He nodded, turning to kiss you. “I love you too.”
Later that day, you strode down the hall, Dori by your side.
“We have everything set up in the hall?”
He nodded.
“All the food is ready?”
He nodded again.
“And the drinks? We have the Mirkwood wines that they shipped ahead?”
“Yes, Y/N. Everything is going to be fine, we’ve been planning for months. Now, the elves are about to arrive. You need to meet your husband and daughter at the gates.”
“Ok, then. See you later?”
“Go, Y/N!” Dori shooed you in the direction of the gates, and, laughing, you turned and walked away.
You stood at the entrance to Erebor, holding hands with a bouncing Arien, Thorin on her other side. You shared a smile with him, leaning over your daughter to kiss him quickly before turning to face the approaching elves. Thranduil dismounted from his elk, Legolas doing the same from his horse, and they walked towards you.
“Your majesties, your highness,” the Elven-King greeted you all with a nod of his head.
You and Thorin returned the greeting in kind, clasping the elves’ forearms. Arien stood there, now quivering with excitement, and when you nodded to her that it was okay to say hello she burst forward with a cry of, “Uncle Thranduil!!” throwing herself into his arms.
“Hello, little one,” Thranduil greeted her with a smile, hugging her back only slightly awkwardly.
You had to admit that your daughter had a good effect on the elf, he was much less prickly than he used to be. You fondly recalled the time when, visiting Mirkwood with Arien and Thorin, you had been unable to find your daughter for several hours. It was only upon going outside that you discovered the Princess of Erebor and the King of Mirkwood making flower-crowns together. Thorin’s jaw had dropped, while you had just smiled, watching Ariens springy coils of hair bounce, her dark skin glowing as she ran around the elf, weaving flowers into his hair.
Now, Thranduil was lifting Arien to pet his elk, smiling as the child giggled. He set her down after a moment, looking behind you at the three new dwarves who had just appeared.
“Your highnesses.” He dipped his head again in greeting, this time to Fíli, Kíli, and Dis. They greeted him in kind before Kíli strode forward to Legolas. The elf bent his head to listen to the dwarf, before nodding and following the dwarf into the mountain, gesturing about what looked like bows and other archery-related things.
“And, that’s the last we’ll see of Legolas and Kíli until someone finds them to bring them to the party!” Thorin smiled as he spoke, and with that, the last of the remaining tension was broken. Thorin grabbed Arien’s hand, leading the delighted child back into the mountain. Thranduil offered you his arm and you gladly accepted, chatting with an old friend as the rest of the elven delegation followed you into Erebor.
“When will Bard be arriving?”
Your eyebrows rose at the informal use of the king’s name, but you answered nonetheless.
“We expect him just before dusk.”
Thranduil smiled softly at this, piquing your curiosity even more, but you let it slide and continued the conversation to other topics.
Back in your rooms, having repeated the whole greeting process with Bard, you helped your husband and daughter get ready for the party. Thorin had donned his finest Durin blue robes, the silver embroidery twining around the cuffs and the hem and highlighting the silver strands of his hair. Arien was resplendent in bright gold, her circlet glowing against her dark skin. Her new dress had blue embroidery around the hem, with reflective panels sewn in to refract golden light all over the room.
And you were radiant in a silver dress, full skirts swirling around your feet and Durin blues ribbons twined through your hair. Your crown sat on your brow lightly, you having opted for the delicate one to save yourself a headache. The three of you put together looked like the very picture of royalty, the elements of Durin blue in each outfit tying it all together as a familial piece.
Later that night, you sat at the high table, gazing around the great room. Arien had been hauled off by Bain and Tilda, and you could see the two older ones playing with her, all three looking delighted.
Sigrid and Fíli were at the center of the dance floor, her laughing at something he said as he twirled her around. You looked forward to cashing in the bet you had made with Thorin about them being a couple- you were rarely right and had lost spectacularly in the bet you had made about Kíli and Legolas (you had been so certain they were dating, but it was just their shared love of archery. And, as Thorin has pointed out, two people that obsessed with their hair would not have worked well in a relationship). Besides, your nephew looked very happy with the human girl.
Kíli and Legolas had deigned to join the party after their customary archery competition, and each was mingling with different crowds. Legolas looked to be regaling a group of humans with his exploits, while Kíli had joined his cousin, Bain, and Tilda in making mischief.
Meanwhile, Thranduil and Bard were conversing in a corner, leaned close together over their glasses of wine, which made you even more suspicious. You resolved to find out what was going on with the two of them while they were staying with you for the next several days.
Thorin tapped you on the shoulder, startling you from your observations. You looked up to see him standing next to your chair, hand outstretched.
“Shall we dance, amralîme?”
“Yes, please. Let’s show them how it’s done.”
You grabbed his hand, walking over to the dance for and twirling on. You heard clapping as the King and Queen of Erebor were spotted on the dance floor, and smiled. There were few things you loved more than dancing with your husband, and so as the band began to play you started.
The dancing was lovely, you switched partners after the first to dance with Fíli, then with a suddenly appearing Kíli, then Legolas. Thranduil swooped in to take your hand after his son, and Bard danced with you after the elf. Your night was rounded out by Bain asking for a dance, which you happily obliged (you didn’t want to be disloyal to any of the others, but aside from the elves, who were inherently graceful, Bain was the best dancer of the lot).
As you walked off the dance floor for what you hoped was the last time (your feet were starting to hurt), you noticed that the room was quickly emptying. It made sense, it was extremely late. You had left the celebration halfway through to put Arien to sleep, leaving an equally sleepy Kíli to watch over her. Sigrid had left with Bain and Tilda a little while ago, while Fíli sat on the dais with his uncle, softly speaking with him. Bard and Thranduil had disappeared at some point as well, although you could not say when, or if they had left together.
Now, you walked up the dais to grab your husband. Saying a quick farewell to Fíli, you entwined your fingers with Thorin’s, making your way out of the hall.
“I think we’ll be having another wedding soon,” your husband said.
You grinned. “I did tell you so. Now pay up.”
He dipped his head in acknowledgment. “So you did. And I can’t fulfill the bet until it snows, you know that.”
You did. You had set the conditions of the bet to be that if Thorin won, you’d have to dress like him for two weeks. You wouldn’t have minded, except for the large clunky boots he always wore. You would have looked ridiculous If you won, Thorin had to have a snowball fight with whoever the highest-ranking visiting diplomat was.
Reaching your room, you leaned against the door.
“I had a lovely night.” You leaned in to kiss your husband.
“I did too.” He kissed you back, before pushing open the door.
You gasped as you entered your room, looking through the windows. It was snowing.
“I guess you’ll have to fulfill your end of the best tonight!” You smirked. “And you know, we have two equally high-ranking people in Erebor right now!”
Thorin buried his face in his hands. “You’re telling me I have to start a snowball fight with Thranduil and Bard.”
You grinned, quickly changing into a warm tunic and boots, throwing a cloak over it all as Thorin did the same.
As you headed out the door, you heard Thorin mutter, “actually, throwing a snowball at that pompous elf might not be the worst thing after all,” under his breath, causing you to giggle.
You first went next door to Arien’s room, waking Kíli while careful not to rouse Arien. The prince was groggy at first, but brightened when you said the words “snowball fight.”
“Should we wake Arien?” Kíli was putting on his own cloak as he spoke.
You looked at Thorin, considering.
“She’ll be very upset if she finds out we played in the snow without her,” Thorin observed.
You walked over to her bed, shaking her gently awake.
“Mama? Is it morning?” Arien blinked her eyes open, groggy.
“No, my darling. It’s snowing! Adad needs to have a snowball fight, so we’re going outside!”
She sprang out of bed. “Snow! I love snow!”
You helped her put on her small tunic and pants, fastening her cloak tight before she tugged her boots on. Reaching out, she grabbed Thorin and Kíli’s hands.
“C’mon Adad, c’mon Kee! We’re gonna have a snowball fight!”
You followed them to Fíli’s door, then Dis’, both of whom were enthusiastic about the plan. You sent Fíli, Arien, and Kíli to rouse Bard’s children and Legolas, the adults making your way to Bard’s room.
Turning the corner, you, Thorin, and Dis stopped short.
Bard and Thranduil were entwined, kissing, in the middle of the hallway, Bard’s fingers running through the elf’s hair. Hearing your gasp, they broke apart, flushed. You all just stood there, dumbstruck for a moment, before you were spurred into action.
Walking forward, you slung an arm around each of their shoulders. “Yes, yes, congratulations and all that. Now, it’s snowing, so we’re going outside. But we’re all very happy for the two of you.”
Thorin and Dis nodded along with your words, and the five of you walked down the hall towards the gates to meet the rest of the royals.
At the main entrance, you walked over to the small door beside the massive gates, unlocking it and gesturing for everyone to follow you outside.
As soon as they were out in the snow, Fíli and Sigrid sprinted away from the mountain, and you could see them beginning to build a fort. Kíli grabbed Bain and Arien to assist him in building another, and Legolas and Tilda were starting to stockpile snowballs together. You could sense that this was the beginning of a snow-war.
Turning around, you saw your husband, the King Under the Mountain, climbing the outside walls of Erebor with a pile of snow cradled in his cloak. Finding a secure perch, he gathered the snow into balls and started raining them down on Thranduil, who shrieked at the cold, startling Bard who stood next to him into quickly moving away.
Thranduil, running over to his son’s stockpile of snowballs, was bombarded from all sides as he tried to steal from Legolas and Tilda. Succeeding, the elf started throwing them back at Thorin, nailing him directly in his face. Thorin dropped to the ground, Bard hitting him with another snow projectile shortly after. You laughed with Dis as you watched three of the most powerful people in Middle-Earth have a snowball fight.
Suddenly, white splattered all over Dis, who turned to see her younger son standing sheepishly behind her.
“Sorry, Amad. I was aiming for Uncle!” Kíli had his hands raised in defense.
“No, you were not! You’re an archer, Kíli, I know you hit what you aim at! And your Uncle is all the way over there!” Dis advanced on Kíli, a snowball in each hand, and her son promptly turned and ran, shrieking as she chased after him.
You were standing there, quite content to watch it all unfold as Fíli and Sigrid led an attack on Legolas and Tilda, Arien and Bain sneaking up to attack them from the rear. Your peace was disturbed, however, by something ice-cold being shoved down your back. You spun around, screaming, to see a smirking Thorin standing behind you. You tackled him into the snow, wrestling until you had him pinned beneath you. He was flushed, both from the cold and exertion, panting, and so irresistible that you leaned down to kiss him.
Thorin quickly deepened the kiss, and you responded, until a shout of, “Cool off, lovebirds!” rang out. Springing up in case someone was about to dump snow on you, you saw Tilda and Legolas dumping snow on the heads of Fíli and Sigrid, who quickly broke apart from their kiss with yells of “So cold!” and “Ouch!” Tilda, Bain, and Legolas, with Arien perched on his shoulders.  stood there with large grins on their faces as you and Thorin made your way to join them.
“Where are your fathers?” you asked Legolas and Tilda.
They shrugged, and you turned to your husband.
Thorin smirked. “Shall we go find them?”
You nodded, along with Fíli, Sigrid, Legolas, Arien still on his shoulders, Bain, and Tilda, and all scooped up several snowballs each. Kíli and Dis appeared, Kíli looking suitably chastened, and each grabbed an armful of snow as well.
“What are we doing?” Kíli whispered.
“We’re gonna ambush Bard and Thranduil,” Thorin informed him, “Have you seen them?”
Dis nodded, “They’re just around the corner of the walls. But… maybe their children shouldn’t be around for this?”
Sigrid laughed. “It’s fine. They’ve been dating for months now, and neither of them is exactly subtle. Our father has made so many trips to Mirkwood recently that we got suspicious and enlisted Legolas for help.”
The elf nodded. “Tilda snuck to Mirkwood in one of the carts her father brought and told me everything. We officially found out when we walked in on them kissing in the throne room.”
Tilda rolled her eyes. “They really do need to work on stealth. But the important thing here is that they don’t know we know.”
“So wait. You’ve known for months and didn’t tell us?!” Thorin was offended.
Bain shrugged. “It wasn’t our news to tell.”
“And that’s exactly the right attitude,” you smiled at him. “Now, let us go ambush some kings!”
Sticking close to the side of the mountain, you all snuck in a line. Thorin and Legolas had climbed up to dump snow on the two kings from above, while the rest of you attacked from the ground. Before climbing, Legolas had transferred Arien to Fíli’s shoulders, where she was happily preparing ammo.
You held out a hand for everyone behind you to stop, peering around the corner at Thranduil and Bard kissing as the snow fell around them. It looked quite romantic, to be honest, but a good snowball surprise was worth disrupting the moment.
You motioned to Thorin and Legolas, perched above, to begin.
“To quote Tilda, cool off, lovebirds!”
Thorin dumped a pile of snow on their heads, and the rest of you sprung around the corner to bombard them with snowballs.  They quickly retaliated, and it dissolved into chaos once again, everyone having the time of their lives.
Dis, Bain, and Tilda had taken Arien in a while ago, Dis staying with her niece, but the rest of you had enjoyed the snow for a while longer. You had all officially congratulated Bard and Thranduil on their relationship, and after the initial shock of finding out that their children had known for months, they were very pleased.
Now, you were walking back to your rooms with your husband in the early hours of the morning. You still felt the blood in your cheeks, exhilarated from the adrenaline and happiness, and Thorin was still flushed from the cold beside you. You pushed open the doors to your bedroom, Thorin shutting them behind you. You walked to your wardrobe, changing out of the soaked tunic and pants into your nightclothes, Thorin doing the same.
Once changed, you climbed into bed next to your husband, laying your head on his chest. You could hear his heart beating as his hand came up to your face, tilting up to his. Thorin slanted his lips over yours, and you responded for a sweet, long kiss, filled with love and all the emotions you could not put into words.
You decided to try anyway. “I love you so much, amralîme. You’re everything I could ever want. You and Arien.”
Thorin smiled. “I love you too, my everything.”
You heard the words rumble in his chest, and smiled softly. You had your beloved husband and daughter. Seven years later, everything was perfect.

Stray Kids Minho x fem!reader
Word count : who know?
Summary : He always visited you, but not for YOU. But as one day passes by, something happens at home.
Genre : Fluff.
Minho and I have been friends since........ forever.
It was back when I was just 3 years old when I had shifted to Korea to live there. I was walking down the street with my mom until I heard a distant ‘meow’. I was excited about hearing the sound of a cat, since I was still consumed in my child curiosity. I dragged my mom towards it to find an injured cat lying near a dustbin. Its coat was dirty and small patches of blood showed that it went in a fight.
My young self found it heartbreaking and I begged my mom to take care of it. Of course my mom disagreed to take it back home, but we took care of it from where it was lying down. My mom and I had rushed to get a first aid kit and some cat food and when we returned, the cat seemed to be sleeping. Taking that as an advantage, we patched the cat up and when it woke up, we gave it some food. After a while we found out that it was a girl.
The cat got attached to us really fast, and it seemed to win both my mother’s and my heart. We must have stayed there till late afternoon, but we didn’t care. I and mom were in the middle of playing with the cat when a voice came in,
“Hwan....?”
I looked around to see a boy of my age who looked shocked. He ignored us and rushed towards the cat. As he ran, the cat also went towards him, like it was natural. My young self got jealous at this action,
“Hey! Thats my kitty!”.
The boy didn’t even listen to me as he examined the cat. He looked up at me after a whole minute.
“Who are you?”, he asked.
“I’m Y/N. And thats my kitty”, I said as I approached the cat.
The boy stepped back with the cat in his hands,
“Sorry, but she is mine. She likes roaming outside so I let her out in the early mornings. I didn’t know that she got injured, thank you for taking care of her. Im really thankful”, the boy said as he looked down shyly.
I frowned at him, “Who are you?”.
“Lee Minho. The cat’s name is Hwan”, he replied.
“What does Hwan mean?”, I asked curiously.
“Shining and bright”.
.......And that was how Minho became my best friend.
19 years later, he was a butt. Not like he wasn’t throughout the years. It was just that he had the audacity to come to my home without permission, and he didn’t even come for ME. The day after meeting him, mom and I had decided to take in a few other street cats to help them. This made Minho visit us almost every day. Of course we got close, but it was his adoration for my cats that he kept coming back. But it started becoming lonely after he went to practice for his dance and got recruited as a backup dancer for BTS. Not later, he got to go in a group called Stray Kids.
It got empty because of him, but he tried to visit his hometown as much as he could. And when that happened, he would bring his three cats to my house to play with MY cats. He would always be mesmerised by them, and would barely put his attention on me.
Right now was one of the moments that he had come to my house.
A knock had come from my door. I went to open it and found a familiar face. It was Minho, with Soonie, Doongie and Dori trailing behind him.
“Where are my little kitties?”, He said with excitement as he rubbed his hands and entered my house.
I looked at him bewildered, since still after so many years, I never got used to his sudden appearance. What shocked me more was that I hadn’t even seen him for the past year. And now he came barging into my home without saying anything.
What a butt...
“How was...... Australia?”, I asked softly.
“It was fun. We had successful concerts and met a lot of fans. Chan and Felix led us around showing some of the places they knew and even met their families. Yeah, it was..... fun”, he stumbled slightly as the cats piled up on him.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at his struggling figure as 7 cats kept climbing on him. I went in to help and brought down some cats. None cooperated with me except for Doongie. Doongie was like the moody middle child, and I was the favourite aunt. We fit together perfectly and Minho was jealous every time he saw us together.
“Give me back my Doongie”, he said as he still continued to struggle with the cats.
“Lol, no”, I answered easily as I picked up Doongie and went to the kitchen to bring some cat food.
We heard the intense meowing from the cats as they fought over Minho while me and Doongie were chilling in the kitchen to get some food. When I finally brought out the food, the cats left Minho and came to eat the food. While they ate, Minho came and sat beside me and rested his head on my shoulder. It would have been awkward, if we weren’t best friends. But sadly we were very close. At this point I knew everything about him, and that was why I never complained about him. It was his way of loving me that he showed love to my pets.
“How have you been?”, Minho asked as he took a video of the cats from his phone.
“Ugh, fine. Just studying and studying and studying. Other then that, I miss you”, I slowly whispered.
“Its good to know that I’m not the only one who misses you. Like I miss the cats AND YOU. Like.... why?”, he whined.
I laughed at him, “It happens when you have a heart”.
He gave me a glare, a glare that I got immune to throughout the years. “I have such a big heart. Touch me”.
He lifted my hand and put it on his chest. What all I got was muscles and I couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“Stop flexing your muscles, Lee Minho”.
He joined me laughing and then looked at me, “You look different. Why?”
“Perhaps because you haven’t seen me for a year. You know, people change in a year”, I replied as I looked back at him.
“And not like you haven’t changed too. Like look at that jawline, man. And that flawless skin. Lemme touch it”, I continued as I brought my hands to his face and squished them.
His skin was soft under my finger and I couldn’t help but give his cheeks a kiss. I saw a blush appear on his face and I laughed at him. He blushed harder when he realised that he was blushing. Minho brought his hands to my wrists and pulled them away. He glared at me and rubbed his numb cheeks.
“Oh cmon, you’re so cute”, I cooed at him.
“No. You are cuter”, he countered back as he pinched my cheeks.
“Thats right, you ugly”, I laughed and looked at him.
“.....Why are you becoming like me?”
“You’re contagious, my dude”, I said as I started playing with his hair.
Minho scoffed under his breath but leaned into my touch. I braided his hair, then removed it, then braided it, then removed it. He like it since I was also massaging his head.
“Would you like coming to the tour with me?”, Minho suddenly proposed out of the blue.
I stopped braiding and looked at him,
“Nah, I don’t think I can”
“But I want to be with you”
“Who will take care of the cats?”
“Mom”
“I’ll be a nuisance to you”
“But im tired of not living with you”
“What do you mean?”
“I like you, ya’ moron”.
Wha......?
Did he just- Did he just confess?
“It what way?”, I asked suddenly.
“In that way that I wanna cuddle with you”, he replied back with no hesitation.
It was so sudden. Something so out of the blue naturally shocked me. I never even dreamed that he liked me back. Yes, I said ‘back’. It wasn’t easy to keep my feeling for so many years. There was so much tension that I brought in our past years, but it never came to my head that he could also be the one who could bring up the tension. Having a crush on Lee Minho was tough. He was famous amongst the girls, though he was oblivious, but what made it more tough was that now he was a worldwide famous idol. I couldn’t help but suppress those feeling but rather put the feeling of pure friendship in front of us. As the years went, I got used to it and never thought of it much.
But this time, today, now, I felt like the helpless teenager in love. The feelings that I kept buried down overflowed my heart and I couldn’t help but caress his face. My eyes were filled with love and my body was relaxed.
“Isn’t it funny how I like you back too?”, I said under my breath as I leaned in.
“It is. Completely unexpected”, he replied as he leaned in too.
“Are you being sarcastic?”
“No, not this time”.
So that was how that 7 cats saw us flirting with each other for the rest of the day.
Lol, I had a boyfriend now.

I wouldn't know, ask those I've flirted with. Have you ever cried over a breakup? For a whole year and then some. I still have episodes. What does your dream life look like? Living isolated in the woods by a river and waterfall with a fantastic spouse, me being a very successful photographer and at least somewhat above *just* financially "stable," maybe having at least one poem published, lots of pets (mostly snakes), plenty of travel opportunities (mostly for photography), being free of my social anxiety and actually being reasonably confident, back in great physical shape... I'm really daydreaming now. What’s something you wish would happen, but know won’t? bleh Where did you meet your current or last significant other? YouTube, back when it was a much more social platform. Do you enjoy wine? No, it's way too bitter. What did you last ask your parents permission for? I asked Mom if I could snack on some chocolate chips she was saving for fudge (since Christmastime...). She was fine with it. Periods are fun. Do you get annoyed when you hear babies crying? I shouldn't, but I do. Me and babies just don't mix. Why were you in a waiting room the last time? I was at a doctor's appointment. What’s your lawyer’s name? I don’t have one. Do you own a lot of scarves? I don't think I own any... Would you ever get a face tattoo? I doubt it, but maybe something very small and subtle. Are your expecting anything in the mail? No. What would you like to see out of your window everyday instead of what you see now? Nature. The woods. Would you rather have a house exterior made from wood, brick, or stucco? Aesthetically, wood, but I don't support the continuation of wood housing in a society where we have many other options that don't harm the environment as much. So, realistically, brick. What is your favorite breakfast? Cinnamon rolls. Do you own a diamond ring? No. Have you ever stripped? No. Do you remember the last movie you saw while on a date? IT with Girt. Whose house did you last sleep over at? Sara's. Yes or no: foreplay? Lmao who the fuck does it w/o foreplay first. Would you ever record you having sex? No fucking way. Something nobody’d ever guess about you? I used to be in great shape. Would you like to be a journalist? I actually wouldn't mind it. It was almost my minor the last time I was in college, actually, but the required courses were a no-no for me. Last year for school, we had an assignment where we had to choose a popular song to write a story based on. What song would you’ve picked? I don't know popular songs, so I'm picking any song. Off the top of my head, given my love for dark and morbid shit, maybe "Voyeur" by Otep. That song is messed up as fuck. No, it's actually not about sex, 'cuz I ain't interested in writing about that. Did the vacuum scare you as a child? I don't think it did. Do you have a long driveway? No, it's actually very short. Have you ever begged someone to stay with you? Oh yes. Are you friends with anyone missing one of their five senses? Not to my knowledge. Are you good at Pac Man? I'm no better than anyone else. Do you have an embarrassing period story? If so, what is it? No. Have you ever gotten high off a prescription medication? No. Do you prefer tampons or pads? Tampons. Pads are mega uncomf. How old were you when your parents talked to you about puberty? I don't know, actually. What stereotype do you fit the most? Geek, maybe? Emo? Idk. If you’re a worshipper, how do you worship? I don't worship anything. What’s your favorite pain reliever? Advil. Do you have a lot of people blocked on Facebook? Not a lot, no. Does your father have facial hair? Yes. Have you ever had a hamster? Yeah, we went through a few. All of 'em were evil. Grape or strawberry jelly? Absolutely grape. What language would you most like to know fluently? German. Do you remember the last song you slow danced to? "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. Do you plan on having alcohol at your wedding? I don't know. Do you have an idea of who you might kiss next? I know who I WANT to kiss next, but that doesn't mean it'll happen. I hate psychic questions. Who’s the most controlling person you know? She's not in my life anymore. Do you own a microphone? No. Do you enjoy trailers at the cinema? I do. Name a pet you definitely wouldn’t want. A centipede, to name one. I've gotten more into the idea of owning invertebrates, and centipedes are in that hobby, but they creep me the fuck out. They're cool to watch, but I don't want one in my house. Do you have a picture of you throwing up the peace sign? Yeah, it's actually one of my favorite pictures of me without makeup. Has a very "me" vibe. Do you enjoy romantic movies, even when they’re cliche? Ha, yeah. Can you tell the difference between a Scottish and an Irish accent? Nope. Can you read music? Probably not anymore. Ever sang someone to sleep? No. What is the movie that you have waited the longest for/which film do you remember anticipating the most/are still anticipating? Finding Dory takes the cake. What is something that an interested guy/girl could comment about you, that would make you instantly open to them (e.g., “That book you’re reading is from my favorite author”)? If you compliment my Markiplier tattoo because you get it, we are immediately family. Out of all your usernames for websites, which one is your favorite? Do you use it for more than one site? Ozzkat. I use it essentially everywhere. Have you ever spent the whole day (or multiple days) just looking up one thing on the internet (e.g., videos of your favorite band, how-to videos, quizzes, etc.)? HA, way more than once. Hyperfixation is a friend of mine. Bow ties on guys, dorky or adorable? C U T E ! ! ! What are your thoughts on mini-skirts or mini-dresses? ALSO C U T E ! ! ! Have you ever died in one of your dreams? Yes. What appliance in your kitchen do you use the most often? The microwave. Do you use Skype to talk to your friends? Sara, yes. And Sam once in a blue moon if we're playing WoW together. Are you allergic to any animals? No. Have you ever had to go to the police department? No. Have you ever been called bipolar? Well yes, because I am. Have you ever made fun of a handicapped person? Hell no, and fuck you if you ever have. If a necklace/ring gives you green marks, do you still wear it? No. Have you ever had food poisoning? I don't think so, no. Favorite emoticon? Probably c: Do any emoticons annoy you? No, but an excessive amount of them I find disruptive to whatever I'm reading. Do you think there will be a WWIII? Yup, someday. Has anyone ever asked you if you were emo? Yeah, back in high school. The most interesting thing that’s ever happened to you at a grocery store? I dunno. Probably running into someone unexpected. Do you have any good book ideas? Having written RP since I was 10 years old... I could by now write a dozen dictionary-sized novels encompassing what I think are the greatest storylines. I genuinely do believe there's some fantastic stuff we've got, but there's just too many horribly dark and twisted parts in the evil mobs that I am not comfortable publishing. Are you gonna see Cars 2? Well, this is old. I never even saw the first one. In all honesty, can a person be too nice? Yep. *points at Weed from GDW* Have you ever posted a video onto YouTube? Yeah, mostly "meerkat music videos," I guess you could say. Some tributes to certain MM characters, others just music with meerkat clips. How often do you compliment other people? I try to any time I have a sincere one. I am very much for complimenting people openly and often. The Legend of Zelda series: Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time? I'm not a fan of the franchise, honestly. Never got the hype. Do you even game at all? Most certainly, but not nearly as much as I used to... You can only replay old games but so many times before you just can't anymore. And the "newest" console I have is the original Wii, so... I definitely don't have the modern equipment. Would you give Zumba dance lessons a try if presented the opportunity? Probably not. Definitely not while my legs are in such bad shape; the dancing is pretty intense and would seriously hurt. I could easily imagine myself fainting. Do you own a rosary? No, but I did in my Catholic-raised childhood. Do you like Adult Swim? No. Sorry excuses for humor everywhere. What’s the first thing you do when you get on the computer? Do a quick check on KM just to ensure everything's in order. What’s one thing that you just wish you could do all of your life? Not have to pay bills, haha. If someone asks for your honest opinion, do you give it? Yes, if they emphasize they really want honesty. When was the last time you felt uninformed or out of the loop? Apparently some politician (I think) died recently and people practically rejoiced on Facebook. I knew zip about him. When in a car, where do you like to sit? Passenger seat/shotgun. Have you ever fought with a good friend over something completely stupid? Oh, absolutely. There have been plenty of RP-related arguments with multiple people... In the big picture, it's laughable to fight over a game, but when you're so invested in your own creations, in the moment, it can seem like a big issue. Those drama days are long behind me now. Would you ever visit a third-world country? I don't think so, no. It would shatter my heart, especially seeing children in poverty. Are you the type that’s too ashamed to ask for or use directions? No. You overhear two people gossiping about you; what do you do? Probably call over something like, "I'm not deaf, you know." I highly doubt I'd sit there with my mouth shut. Have you ever felt manipulated? Yes. If you were homeless, how would you cope? If I was truly, entirely homeless, quite honestly, I'm almost positive I'd kill myself. Have you ever done something just to fit in? Yeah. When was the last time you tried to impress someone, for whatever reason? I'm not sure, but I've certainly done it at one point or another. Do you think that the world could function in a state of anarchy? Definitely not. How well do you know your U.S. [or your country’s] history? I mean, I know the bare bones of it, but I'm far from well-versed in history. It was one of my weak subjects in school. Would you ever wish to move to another country? I'm not kidding when I say if it weren't for family, I would probably move to Canada. What is something that you do that others might consider “nerdy”? The way I write, particularly for academic purposes. I'm very descriptive and have an exceptionally large vocabulary. Have you ever had anything expensive stolen from you? Not from me specifically, but our basketball hoop was stolen from my childhood home. I doubt it was very cheap. Do you understand/notice when someone’s using sarcasm? Usually, anyway. When was the last time you were fooled? HAHA there was this drama video suggested to me on YouTube that involved Mark in the title, and I was mega confused and inevitably clicked. Now it's basically a YouTube meme just how "perfect" Mark is, so there was no real drama; apparently some newer fans are just upset at him for playing the sequel to HuniePop, a very sexual puzzle/dating game that's honestly entertaining and can be really funny. Like... he's played the original and despite the discomfort of some scenes (which are censored, mind you), he still had fun, and it was a big hit on his channel. So him playing the sequel isn't surprising, but apparently some people got shit to say. What first Impression do you hope you make with other people? Something along the lines of "wow, she's very nice." Have you ever thought about how you make other people feel/think? Well of course. I think everyone should take time to consider this. What is your stance on getting revenge? A petty waste of time. Any wise/truthful/witty quotes that you live by? Ha, another Mark answer. He once gave the casual innuendo of, "Life's hard; shouldn't you be, too?" (this might have actually been in a HuniePop video!), but when you take the... uh... sexual theme out of it, it's a good way to look at life???? Have tough skin, unmoving willpower, y'know, that stuff. Who was the last person you sat beside at a restaurant? My sister Ashley. Spongebob or Patrick? Patrick is a whole-ass mood. Would you rather watch little kid’s cartoons, older kid’s cartoons, or adult cartoons? Hm. Probably little kid's, given my love for Pokemon. How about watching regular cartoons or anime? Anime. Who is the last person you spent money on? Myself. Do you own a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon? No; I had SeaWold Tycoon instead. I loved that game. Do you have any birth marks in embarrassing places? No. Have you used Limewire before? Of course. Free music for the low price of a catastrophic virus. :^) When was the last time you required a band-aid? I think when I cut one of my toenails way too short. Are you afraid of snakes? Oh no! I adore them so, so very much. Not saying I'm gonna go scoop up the first copperhead I find herping or something, but I love and respect them so very much. They are such fascinating animals. If you believe in reincarnation, what animal would you want to become? I don't think I believe in reincarnation, but hypothetically, maybe a lioness. Who do you tell everything to? Pretty much whoever reads these surveys, haha. Did you have candles on your birthday cake? Not my most recent one. Exactly, how old are you? I just turned 25 years and one month old. Have you ever been bitten by anything? Besides bugs, I don't think so. I've had cats and dogs playfight with me, but none have ever seriously bitten me with actual effort. Do you wear hats? No. What was the last song you sang along to? "Lunchbox" by Marilyn Manson. Do you think you’ll be married in 5 years time? I'd like to be, but idk if it's realistic.

Can you do a JaeYona fanfiction prompt for me? I want a story where Yona's problem with not eating for long periods of time when she gets really stressed resurfaces? I noticed that Yona had that problem mentioned a couple times in the series, but it never really gets brought up again, and I could see Jae Ha and some of the others getting really concerned over it. I hope this isn't too sudden, but I'm surprised that there aren't more fanfictions that bring it up and I'd like if somebody wrote one
Thanks so much for the prompt anon! I’m sorry this took me so long I’m working on my backlog of prompt immediately during current events hope you like this take for my Castle AU series where Yona is queen of Kouka
“Daddy! Daddy!” tiny voices could be heard running across the hallways of the palace as King Jae-ha turned to see his twin children rushing towards him. He was currently sitting with his cane watching Hak, Ura, Hawke and Shiro practice, Lina bouncing her 6-year-old Krystal in her lap and giggling at her silly siblings. The child squealed when she’d feel her unborn sibling kick at her, considering Lina was 6 months pregnant with her next child. Sitting next to her was her second daughter, Jin-ae, who was named after the first Queen of Kouka, Hiryuu’s wife.
“Here comes Aki and Mido, Uncle Jae-ha.” Hinto, Shin-ah’s 10-year-old son chuckled as he at saw them coming with his dragon’s eye.
“Aka-dori? Mido-ka? What is it?” Jae-ha asked once the two children arrived. They were 5 years old, the girl with long raven hair and the boy with short ginger hair.  The girl had clear blue eyes and the boy had green.
“Mommy won’t eat!” Aki cried, whimpering. “The cooks don’t know what to do she didn’t eat breakfast and now she says she doesn’t want lunch.”
Hak stopped his practice run and sighed, shaking his head. “… She’s still upset over…” he glanced to Zeno who nodded.
“We all miss former Seiryuu and Hakuryuu.” The Yellow Dragon answered. “It didn’t help they passed only a year apart. Not to mention former Ryokuryuu lately has…”
“Oh please, I’m just fine.” Jae-ha waved him off. “I mean seriously Lina’s 22 now, I honestly thought I would have long kicked the bucket by now.”
“Yeah and you fell down the stairs the other day again, Droopy Eyes.” Hak growled. “You gave her a heart attack.”
“Hak come on, you have enough on your plate.” Jae-ha looked at him sadly, after all Valerie had just passed away in childbirth a year ago. “No point in me bothering you all the time to get around.”
“But I can help you uncle!” Shiro, the current 12-year-old Hakuryuu said while extending his arm.
“Precious child.” Jae-ha hummed, petting the boy on the head. He sure had his father’s enthusiasm.
Tetora smiled as she hugged her son from behind. “You’re always so eager to help.”
“Really guys I’ll tend to my wife, lead the way treasures.” Jae-ha hummed, Aki and Mido eagerly rushed back in. “But don’t run or you’ll…”
“GAH!” Gigan, Jae-ha’s middle daughter growled as the twins nearly plowed her over when they ran past her, the 16-year-old looking rather annoyed. “Aki! Mido! Watch where you’re going!” she growled as she almost dropped the books she was holding.
“Done with your lesson already Gigi?” Hawke called out to his older sister.
“Yes which you skipped!” Gigan snapped at him, her eyebrow twitching at the nickname. “What kind of prince are you when all you want to do is run off and learn fighting with our Uncle Hak? Seriously you can’t solve everything with your muscles idiot.”
“Not everyone enjoys lessons like you do Gigan.” Lina giggled.
Jae-ha laughed, petting Gigan on the head. “My smart little treasure. You’re going to make a fine queen someday you know.”
That made the raven-haired girl blush. “F-father really I mean I would be honored if mother were to choose me but I’m not the oldest…”
“You really think Lina wants the throne?” Jae-ha snorted.
“Hell no, I’m traveling with Ura after the kids are grown.” Lina rolled her eyes and took her husband’s hand. “I’m a Ryokuryuu my job is to protect our mother and eventually I’ll protect the future king and queen. Which could be you and Shiro when you get married.” She teased.
Shiro practically choked as he turned red at that. “I-I-I… T-that’s n-not funny Lina!”
“LINA!” Gigan’s face turned into a fireball. “I’m not you I don’t go around marrying our cousins!”
“Please, Kija and I weren’t exactly blood brothers just dragon brothers.” Jae-ha hummed. “Otherwise Shiro & Hinto would be Lina’s brothers with their dragon connection. Besides look how happy Ura and Lina are you know I sure won’t complain…”
“FATHER THAT’S NOT FUNNY!” Gigan shouted, looking ready to explode. “GAH! Why am I the only normal one in this crazy family?!”
Jae-ha laughed how his daughter would always have a meltdown over things like this. The rest of his children got his carefree attitude and Gigan was more like her namesake it made me smile. “Anyway where’s your mother? I hear she’s being stubborn again.”
“In the library.” Gigan answered after she settled down. “One of the scholars just dropped off a new scroll with her and she said she was putting it away…. She was forcing a smile so I was going to bring her a new specimen from Kai that my instructor brought.” She held up an orange colored orchid. “Give it to her father, you know new flowers for her garden always cheers her up.”
Jae-ha nodded, smiling as he took the flower. “I will my dear. Try to not let your siblings drive you insane.”
Gigan looked at him deadpan. “Don’t ask for the impossible, father.”
Jae-ha snorted, then kissed her forehead and headed on for the library. His twins ran so far ahead of him he shook his head as they found their mother first, her back to them and not even noticing they entered as she was looking over a scroll.
Tears floated down Yona’s cheeks as it was a new illustration of her and her Four Dragons surrounding her, along with many of the tales the scholars sat her down and made her recall because they wanted to make a full record of the second incarnation of King Hiryuu. Shin-ah’s funeral was only a few weeks ago and she still wasn’t over the loss of both Kija and Valerie. She sobbed to herself as she clutched the parchment close, hating the fact her family was slowly being torn apart but at the same time blessed she had so many happy years with them…
“Mommy!” Aki and Mido were suddenly hugging her ankles, snapping her out of her trance. “Mommy! We brought you something!” the twins bounced on their toes as they pulled back.
“Oh what is it you two? Don’t tell me you’re trying to butter me up because you set the garden on fire again.” Yona sighed, bending down to her kids to pet them on the head.
“No mommy that was an accident we swear!” Aki whimpered.
“Even though it happened three times.” Mido squirmed.
Jae-ha chuckled as he walked in. “They’re just worried about you my lovely, here. A gift from Gigan.” He handed her the flower, bringing a small smile the queen’s face.
“It’s lovely.” Yona said, joining him in standing. “But you should be resting.” She scolded her husband.
“I’m behaving.” Jae-ha hummed, leaning on his cane for support. He tried to hide the fact he was trying to catch his breath from the walk over, lately just getting out of bed was a chore for the aging dragon.
Yona brushed her fingers over his bangs, noting the sweat on his forehead as she chided him. “You can’t hide from me, husband. Sit down.” She pushed him into a nearby chair that the twins helped bring closer. “Or else I’ll let our terror twins tie you down again.”
“Can we mommy?!” Aki cried, excitement dancing in her eyes.
Jae-ha snorted. “Now you’re using the kids against me, that’s not fair love.”
“You use them against me so it’s only fair.” Yona giggled, kissing him playfully as she pulled away. “Aki, Mido, go get something from the chefs for daddy along with his medicine from Grandma Yoon ok?”
“Ok mommy!” Mido darted off, Aki rushing after him.
“I’ll only eat if you do.” Jae-ha said in a sing-song voice.
Yona made a face. “I’m not hungry.”
The Ryokuryuu sighed, grabbing her hands. “… Love… Come on it’s not your fault. You know Shin-ah and Kija wouldn’t want you to feel guilty.”
“But…” Yona choked, tears in her eyes as her hands trembled. “If only I wasn’t… And one day the same will happen to our own daughter and then… I was so absorbed in worrying about you I never thought that they would…”
Jae-ha pulled her into his lap, giving her a long kiss full of love while caressing her back. “Shhhh, it’s ok love. It’s only natural, my successor was born first after all everyone even Zeno expected me to die by now. It’s a strange miracle I’ve lasted this long. Guess Ik-su wasn’t kidding when he said our child is twice blessed and I wouldn’t die as soon as I thought.” He kissed away her tears as he brushed her crimson hair. “But that doesn’t change the fact that they both loved you and wouldn’t want you upset. They lived wonderful lives here by your side and found their beautiful wives. Their children are safe here and we’ve basically broken the curse of Ryokuryuu and Seiryuu villages as their lines will continue here where they are celebrated not hated. We might even mix dragon blood with the way Gigan and Shiro are crushing on each other.”
Yona rolled her eyes. “Stop playing match maker with our children.”
“It worked with Lina didn’t it?” Jae-ha hummed, kissing her cheek. “… Please love, you’ve barely ate anything all week or do I have to pop another treasure inside you to make you take care of yourself?” he offered, fluttering his eyelashes at her.
Yona turned bright red at that, squirming in his lap. “… I-I… I can’t do that, they might never meet their…” she sadly brushed his cheek.
“Think of it as me leaving you a treasure behind my love.” Jae-ha hummed, pressing his forehead against hers. “Besides we know they won’t be lonely with as many siblings as they’ll have. Just think about it love.” He gave her another kiss. “After all I don’t seem to have the stamina I used to in my prime.”
“What a crime.” Yona giggled slightly, smiling warmly at her husband. “… Thank you Jae-ha… You and all the dragons helped me find the greatest happiness in my life. I just…. Hate the thought of waking up without you by my side.” She choked.
Jae-ha looked at her sadly. “… I know, I feel the same. But the kingdom and our family need you love. Besides… You know I’ll be waiting for you on the other side.”
“Jae-ha….” Yona sobbed, her eyes threatening to let out another waterfall of tears until she heard the sounds of her twins rushing back into the room.
“We got food mommy! You gotta eat too!” Mido said, holding up a tray that was bigger than he was of food as Aki was holding Jae-ha’s medicine.
Yoon stood in the doorway as he came behind them, holding a second tray. “Yona how many times have I told you that you can’t skip meals like this?”
Yona pursed her lips as she crawled out of her husband’s lap. “… I told you kids just to get your father’s medicine not tell on me.”
Aki giggled. “But Grandma Yoon is your advisor and he can advise you to eat!”
“Not like she ever takes my advice when it’s about her health lately she’s as bad as her husband.” Yoon rolled his eyes, looking over Jae-ha and handing him a powder. “Now take that or else you’re on bedrest the rest of the week.”
“Thank you mother.” Jae-ha teased, though the boy genius was so used to it that didn’t even faze him anymore.
“We just don’t want you to get sick mommy please?” Aki bat her eyes at Yona, looking ready to cry. “Daddy gets sick enough and you take care of him so who’s going to take care of you if you feel bad?”
“Me probably.” Yoon mumbled under his breath.
Yona groaned as she took a seat, her twins at her legs immediately trying to force her something to eat as she sighed and grabbed a bread roll. “Fine, I’m eating are you guys happy now?” she then had the kids put the tray down on the table full of books as she lifted them into her arms, kissing their cheeks. “You two are too precious, so worried about me and your silly daddy.”
“Because daddy makes you cry when he gets hurt!” Mido whimpered. “You’ll make daddy cry if you get sick.”
Jae-ha hummed. “That’s right dear, don’t you know it’s a crime to make the king cry?” he tried to tease.
“Don’t you start.” Yona snapped. “It’s not my fault I was tired last week and you insisted on trying to carrying me to my room like a stubborn fool.”
Yoon groaned. “Don’t remind me. I’m the one the kids got when they found you two at the bottom of the stairs.”
“So I can’t land as gracefully as I used to…” Jae-ha rubbed his cheek in embarrassment as he chuckled, then grabbed something off the tray for himself to get the bitter taste of the medicine out of his mouth.
Yona sighed at that. “Sorry. I guess I have been worrying you guys just…”
“Well all miss them.” Yoon gave her a hug. “… Just know that you aren’t alone, ok? And we can’t lose you too. This idiot will probably jump off a cliff to join you if you die on him.” He jabbed a thumb at Jae-ha.
“Yoon not in front of the little ears.” Jae-ha groaned, not exactly denying it.
“No die mommy!” Aki and Mido clung to their mother tightly. “You can’t leave us!”
Yona wilted at that, hugging her twins tightly. “… You’re right. I’m not leaving you kids anytime soon I swear.” She kissed each of their foreheads. “And now go tell daddy he can’t leave you either so he has to stay stubborn for at least a few more years.” She smirked, letting them go as they rushed to their father.
“Daddy! Daddy! You too!” Aki cried, clinging to his legs as Mido tugged on his robes.
“Oh you little darlings I wouldn’t dare leave you just yet, I have to keep seeing all the trouble you get into come here!” Jae-ha smirked, lifting the kids into his lap and smothering them with kisses. “My precious little treasures.”
Yona smiled at the sight, hoping that her precious family could stay together just a bit while longer…

*Perfect Match* Newt x reader
◘ blackrose22-0 asked:
Yay cause I had another idea. Tina and Queenie have another sister who's the black sheep because of her love of magical creatures which attracts Newt, but she thinks he likes Tina. Fluff 😉 Please and thank you
Tumblr media
• I apologize immensely if this is absolute crap... I have had a bit of a writer’s block lately and so I hope this doesn’t suck >__<
Newt walked down the busy New York street making his way towards the Goldstein’s apartment holding tightly to his case. It had been over a year since his first visit and was excited to be back; although this time he was hoping to avoid anything like the last visit.
“Newt!” Tina was waving to him in front of her apartment building and nearly knocked him over as she ran to hug him. “Oh, Newt! It’s so nice to see you again!” Tina was beaming as she looked up at him.
“It’s nice to see you too”
“Come on. Queenie has a delicious dinner waiting for us.” Sneaking him up the stairs and in to the apartment, Queenie turned around as she heard the door open. Her curly hair bouncing above her shoulders, he waved hello and as she kept her focus on her wand that was preparing various foods.
Newt set his case down and hung his coat up. Pickett was perched on his shoulder and Tina smiled at seeing the familiar little creature.
“You must be exhausted! I’ll get you some tea. Make yourself at home!” Tina motioned to Newt to take a seat on the couch as she wandered off to get a cup for his tea.
Settling in to the couch, Newt suddenly heard a low humming sound coming from underneath the couch. Curious as to what it was, he bent over and discovered a light pink puffskein peering back up at him. He was about to ask about the little creature when suddenly a young woman entered the room. She was wearing a brown skirt, white blouse and had beautiful H/C hair.
“Has anyone seen Doris?!” You looked over to your sister’s who then looked at Newt.
“I’m assuming this is Doris?” Newt held the little puffskein up and you let out a sigh of relief. “There you are!” You rushed over and grabbed the little creature from his hands. “I told you to stop drinking from the toilet! I know it was you...” Scolding it, you completely forgot to introduce yourself. Newt smiled and watched you. He was taken back by your sparkling E/C eyes and the perfect shade of pink that dusted your cheeks.
“Y/N....” Tina broke you away from Doris and tried to turn your attention to Newt. “I told you we were expecting a guest...”
“Oh! Right!” You held out your hand and smiled. “I’m, Y/N.” Looking in to the wizard’s eyes, you felt your stomach become full of butterflies. His cinnamon red hair hid his blue green eyes but not enough that you were still able to see them. He gave you a lopsided smile before standing up and taking your hand in his.
“I’m Newt.... Newt Scamander”
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Scamander” You felt your cheeks become red and suddenly you found it hard to breathe. He was absolutely handsome. “Oh my gosh!” You gasped when you caught sight of the bowtruckle perched on his shoulder. “A bowtruckle!” Newt smiled and lifted Pickett up in to his hands. “This is, Pickett.” He held him at eye level so you could get a better look. “He’s adorable!” You exclaimed.
“Dinner’s ready!” Queenie called everyone to the table and you took your places. Newt sat directly across from you and you couldn’t help but look up at him ever now and then. He shared some of his stories with you all and you noticed how he and Tina seemed to have a pretty special connection. You were excited, however, when Newt turned his attention towards you finally.
“So you like magical creatures too?” He asked.
“Yes” You blushed, looking up at him. He had an adorable lopsided grin on his face as he looked at you. “Perhaps I can show you some of my creatures while I’m here.”
“Really? I’d love that!” You beamed at the thought of spending time with this new and wonderful man.
“You can come too.” Newt looked up at Tina and Queenie. “I’m sure Dougal will be happy to see you both!”
Your heart sank as he invited your sister’s to join. Looking up, you noticed how he and Tina seemed to share a special moment with a laugh. It was clear to you now that they obviously fancied each other. Just like always, you were never as noticed as your two older sisters...
Newt lay in his bed that night staring at the ceiling. He couldn’t stop thinking about you and how cute you were all evening. After dinner you had let Newt play with Doris and he let you play with Pickett. A smile spread across his face as he replayed your laugh in his head and the image of your smile played across the forefront of his mind.
Newt never had much luck with relationships and as much as he wanted to get to know you, he feared he’d lose you or possibly be rejected. The heartache of Leta stung his heart and he tried to push it away. He wished he had more confidence in the area of woman.
Turning over on to his side, Newt let out a sigh and closed his eyes. Tomorrow he’d take you, Tina and Queenie down in to his case. Smiling to himself, he imagined the smile you’d display once walking in and seeing all his magical creatures.
Smoothing your dress, you checked your hair and made sure you looked absolutely perfect before emerging from your room and joining everyone at the breakfast table.
“Good morning, Y/N!” Tina smiled at you as she sipped her cup of coffee.
“Good morning!” Taking a seat from across Newt, you smiled at him and waited as the charmed spatula on the table placed a stack of pancakes on to your plate.
“Did you sleep well, honey?” Queenie leaned over and placed a glass of water down for you. “I did! Did you sleep well, Mr. Scamander?” Newt, fumbling with fork as you said his name, looked up and smiled. “I did. Thank you.”
Your heart sank as his eyes went back down to his plate. Hoping to get his attention again, you brought up the case and your excitement to meet his creatures. “I can’t wait to meet your creatures today.”
“I can’t wait to see the niffler!” Queenie giggled.
“I’d like to formally thank the swooping evil for his assistance last time you were here.” Tina chuckled. You watched as Newt glanced over at her and let out a small laugh. You knew they were referring to the incident that happened on his first visit here. Slightly annoyed that once again Tina had his attention, you pushed your plate away and waited until everyone else had finished.
“Ready?” Newt asked, as he unhinged his case.
“Oh, yes!” Queenie clapped her hands in excitement as Newt lifted the case’s lid and descended down. Tina followed after, Queenie next, until it was just you. Slowly walking over, you looked down and saw a small ladder leading down in to what from up there looked like a tiny shed. Carefully, you set one foot down and then the next until you had fully descended down. Inside the hut, you looked around at all the various bottles and random nick knacks.
“Y/N?” You heard Tina calling to you and you quickly made your way out of the hut. You emerged in to a whole new world. All around you were various habitats belonging to various creatures. Some you had seen before and others only in books or stories.
“Are those.... mooncalf!?” Your heart began to race as you looked at the creatures. Making your way over, you stopped when suddenly you saw the erumpent and you gasped in delight. “You have an erumpent?!” Your mind was exploding in excitement as you noticed the more creatures you had longed and dreamed to someday see.
“Dougal!” Tina bent down to the demiguise and he wrapped his arms around her. Gently she lifted him up and smiled as he nuzzled in to her neck. “This here is Dougal.” Walking over to you, Tina introduced you two and watched as you awed over the demiguise.
“Give me that back!” Queenie gracefully ran after the niffler who seemed to have snatched her necklace away. You giggled at the sight.
“Accio!” Newt shot the spell at the little guy and he flew in to his arms. “Once again... paws off what isn't yours!” Snatching the jewelry away, he handed it back to Queenie who thanked him and giggled as she pet the little creature on the head.
“Newt.... this is absolutely amazing!”
Newts feckless face went red as he smiled at you, averting his eyes away slightly. He looked adorable with his hands in his pockets, his messy curly cinnamon colored hair and his faithful little bowtrucke, Pickett, sitting atop his shoulder. He was living the life you had always dreamed and you envied him.
What you wouldn’t give to give up everything and take to traveling the world alongside this man as you adventured to save and explore magical creatures. You felt your chest grow tight and the butterflies in your stomach appear again as you looked at him. It wasn’t until you noticed Queenie looking at you and winking that you realized she was hearing your thoughts loud and clear.
Clearing your throat, you shot her a glance and she turned away, giggling to herself.
“Newt?” Tina called to him from over by where he kept his occamies. Newt turned and walked over to Tina who asked if she could hold one. Sighing, you watched as he lifted one up and gently placed it in to her hands. They smiled at another and you noticed how easy it was for them to talk. They had a connection and you envied it.
“You okay, honey?” Queenie appeared next to you and you jumped slightly.
“You tell me. You can hear my thoughts, can't you?”
“Newt’s shy, honey. It takes him a little bit to come out of his shell. He finds it easier to be with his creatures than with people.”
“He seems fine around Tine.” You said, slightly annoyed.
“They’ve met before, hun! Give him some time... he’ll warm up.”
Queenie’s words helped, but what you really wanted to know was if he saw you the way you saw him. Looking up to your sister, you hesitated a moment before asking, “I know you struggle with Brit’s, but can you at all tell me if he... you know... likes me?”
Queenie turned her gaze from you to Newt, watching him with Tina, before looking back at you. “Well, honey... I think it’s best you find out for yourself.”
“Ugh! Can’t you just tell me!?”
“As your sister, my advice is to ask him yourself.” And with that, she smiled at you and walked over to the tree housing the bowtruckles. You felt your heart sink as you continued to watch as him and Tina laughed together. Why bother asking? It was clear to you he and Tina were smitten.
Everyone gathered in the living room shortly after leaving Newt’s case and spent a majority of the afternoon drinking tea and enjoying one another’s company. You sat on the couch, petting Doris in your lap, as you listened to Newt telling stories of his earlier travels and his recent update on Frank, the Thunderbird he rescued.
“He’s absolutely loving being free.” Newt’s eyes twinkled as he spoke about Frank. It was clear to you that he was one of Newt’s most loved creatures.
Later that evening, Tina and Queenie bit you two goodnight, having to be up early the next day to report to MACUSA and left you two in the living room alone. A few minutes passed before you stood up, careful not to wake the sleeping Doris in your arms.
“I suppose I should head to bed myself.... Good night, Newt.”
“Wait.” Newt stood up and gently laid a hand on your arm. The feeling of his touch against your skin was enough to send shockwaves through your body. You felt your palms become sweaty and your heart rate increase rapidly. “I... I was hoping to t-talk to you... alone.”
Confused and slightly nervous, you sat down on the couch. Newt sat down beside you and you saw his cheeks begin to blush a dark red. He seemed nervous and you weren't quite sure why. Patiently, you waited until he finally spoke again. “I hope you enjoyed seeing my creatures today...”
“Oh, yes! I loved every moment. I must say.... I am very envious of you. I only ever dreamed I’d see half the creatures you have. It was like being inside one of my dreams. Thank you.”
Newt looked up at you and stared deep in to your E/C eyes. Looking back in to his blue green ones, you felt your lips tingle as you longed to press yours to his. The moment seemed to last for ages and you grew nervous. Looking away, you said the first thing that came to your mind. “I see you and Tina seem to have a connection. That’s nice. She really enjoys your company. She spoke about you for days before your arrival.” Petting Doris, you felt his eyes still on you. “She’s lucky.... You’re a very special man, Newt. It was quiet and you felt Newt shift a bit on the couch.
“I’m sorry... I’m confused... are you under the impression that your sister and I are... are dating?”
“Well, aren't you?”
Newt let out a little chuckle before looking back up at you. “Tina is a good friend and yes, we have a connection. She was a great help to me when I was here last, but I’m afraid there’s no romantic tendencies between us.”
“Oh...” Your cheeks began hot and you felt them grow more red by the second. You were so embarrassed. It wasn’t until Newt’s hand appeared on top yours, that you looked up at him and saw him looking at you with a longing in his eyes.
“I actually have had my eyes on someone else...”
Your body was tense and the feeling of his hand atop yours was only making you grow more and more in need of feeling more of his touch. Gently, you lifted Doris up and placed her on the cushion beside you before turning to face Newt.  He looked at you for a moment before placing a hand on your cheek. Your leaned in to his touch and smiled at him, watching as he smiled back.
“I have wanted to be alone with you since the moment I got here...” He breathed. “And when I saw you with your little puffskein, my heart nearly exploded.” A tiny chuckle escaped his lips. “I was in love once... a long time ago. She shared an interest of magical creatures just like me. She broke my heart and ever since then.... I never thought I’d find someone who shared my interest with me. That was until I met you. I can’t quite explain it, but being with you.... I feel complete.”
Newt’s words filled your heart and you felt your eyes begin to tear up. You gently placed a hand on his check an moved in a bit closer until your foreheads were touching. Both your eyes were closed as you sat there, soaking in each other’s touch. You both felt at peace and as if you had finally found your other half.
--> BONUS FOR THOSE WHO WANT A KISS:
Opening your eyes, you meet Newt’s. The eagerness to taste your lips overcame him and he pressed his lips to yours. His chapped lips fit perfect on yours and you wrapped your arms around his neck to pull him in closer. Gently, Newt tangled his fingers through your H/C hair as he pressed his lips harder in to yours. It seemed to last for ages until finally you both broke away, gasping for air. You let out a tiny laugh before brushing his hair from his eyes.
“I could get used to this....” You whispered.

October 2018
Being so busy that I can hardly keep up with these lists anymore.
A fat, fluffy red cat keeping up with a running girl on the other side of the fence.
Working with clay.
Applying for an international education programme in Canada.
The evening at Oktoberfest with my colleagues. Dancing in front of Hexenschaukel as usual, right before going home.
An incredibly soft, bright red pencil. Japanese brush pens from Arket. Drawing. I never know that I miss it until I start scribbling again.
Spending the evening with Manu, Martin and Indian food. Playing SingStar. Laughing way more than we should about a set of 400 Chuck Norris jokes. Falling asleep with my head resting on Manu's shoulder. A weird half-conscious flashback, different places and childhood memories accompanied by calm, happy piano music.
Rosie Leizrowice: „When I find myself overwhelmed or in a stressful situation, I try to imagine myself from above, then pan backwards until I see the whole street, the city, the county, the country, Europe, this blue planet — then let it fade into darkness (this is also a meditation technique.) It works every time. Because once you visualise yourself as an insignificant speck, you realise how inconsequential just about everything is. And although that can be paralysing, it can also be liberating.”
Jonah Hill's role as the Icelander Snorri in episode 9 of Maniac's first season. But Emma Stone as a drunk elf is hilarious as well!
The fact that Google Maps now shows Earth as an actual globe. Makes exploring feel much more real!
A visit from Bibi on a Sunday evening. Looking for mushrooms in the forest, walking over the fields, petting a cat, visiting Tom at work. Perfect against Sunday blues.
KARAOKE!! Especially performing Tenacious D's Fuck Her Gently on stage with Manu.
Spending a lot of time with Doris during the preparations for the school anniversary. We're on really good terms at the moment. / Climbing onto the school's roof with Mr L. so we could apply the banner from above. Great view. / Founding a choir.
Going to bed on a Friday afternoon after the anniversary party. Finally I didn't have to stress anymore and spent the whole weekend in bed (because I got sick, yeehaa).
Meeting Franzi for drinks at Gärtnerplatz. She's going to be a mum next year, at the same time as Meghan Markle! I'm happy for her.
Satin headbands (hello, Blair Waldorf!) / dainty gold rings / huge, soft scarves / matte nail polish, still / dyke couture (lumberjack shirt)
Attending a workshop on English literature where a director from Residenztheater's youth department showed us how to teach Hamlet to our students. I had a lot of fun with the different kinds of games and acting in our own scenes. My favourite part was playing Hamlet's thoughts. Yep, that's a role, too.
Singing along to songs from Once More With Feeling, the best Buffy episode ever made. Finding out that Manu knows most of the lyrics by heart was fantastic, I didn't know that episode had more than one die-hard fan (=me).
Jumping on the trampolines at Maxx Arena with my class. Beating everyone at American Gladiator (boxing them off the beam into the foam cubes). Jumping down from a trapeze. Scary and my muscles were very sore the next day but it was a lot of fun.
Benedict Wells' reading his own short stories in Munich. He still has a very Southern German rolling r-sound going on. Charming!
My brother gave me Michael Greger's book How Not to Die and even though I started out very sceptic it gave me the last push I needed to go back to vegetarianism / semi-veganism. I'm probably not going to stop eating a little bit of yoghurt and cheese any time soon but meat, fish and eggs absolutely have to go. Yuck. I always have unsweetened almond milk at home - the perfect substitute for milk. And I love apple slices and a few almonds as a sweet snack.
Kurt Vile's Jesus Fever live in concert. Drifting off during the show, thinking about possible outcomes of my trip to Scotland. Meeting Ralf! / Related: Kurt Vile in conversation.
Realising that I can actually spend up to a third of a year travelling. Apparently the universe knew better then me when it created all those coincidences that made me become a teacher.
Doing sun salutations at home. Just because I had some extra energy that Friday evening.
Reading English magazine articles out loud to myself, in a posh voice. Feeling like a literary ASMR-tist.
Especially reading something about Australia which often seems like a forgotten country to me - that is the reason why stories about Australia, for example The Sunburnt Country in Believer Magazine, sometimes take on a fairytale-like character for me.
This is 18 - through photographs girls show what it is like to turn 18 in the year 2018.
I'm grateful for people who let me join their family occasionally. It's always both strange and nice since I'm not used to a family dynamic at all. Especially experiencing the presence of a father is so unfamiliar for me. Markus let me harvest honey with his parents in the summer and Manu asked his father to teach us woodcarving at his workshop. We ended up staying with his family until very late, drinking liqueur and playing board games.
Marzipan and buttered soft pretzels. Geez, I'm addicted.
Waking up from a very real nightmare in which I suddenly had a cat and a baby who I both neglected. Scary.
Colouring (IKEA's 'city overrun by monsters' drawing sheet).
Crystal encrusted hoop earrings from &otherstories.
A Star Is Born - this movie made me fall in love with Bradley Cooper AND Lady Gaga. Also, I'm obsessed with the song Shallow and the red leather boots Ally is wearing on the motorcycle.
Compliments from my art students - they compared my respect level to that of our principal. Woah.
Going to Scotland for the first time! Things I liked in no particular order: staying at Erika and Brendon's apartment - she is a lovely Bolivian and he is a co-author of the Rough Guide to Scotland; he told me about his favourite book by Sebald, a German author, and urged me to read it / Gatuso, the fluffiest cat / early mornings in the empty backyard, watching Gatuso strolling through the sunshine, seeing the white frost on the plants / Waitrose supermarkets / the Scottish accent / doing a walking tour with Stefanie, she was quite entertaining / trying 16-year-old smokey Scotch whiskey / going out with Rasmus and his friends, drinking at Banshee Labyrinth (the most haunted pub in Scotland apparently), admiring the costumes at the gay bar / a free impro comedy show on a lazy Sunday / old libraries / Banoffee Pie at Stockbridge Market / Greyfriar's kirkyard - the most beautiful graveyard with a very nostalgic, gothic atmosphere; maybe because you can see the grey buildings of the old town surrounding it and because of all the spooky stories / speaking of stories: there is so much folklore... about Maggie Dickson, Greyfriar's Bobby, the places that inspired the Harry Potter novels. Love it. / Blackwell's bookstore / my tour through the Highlands - gorgeous weather and autumn colours, such a spectacular landscape / rainbows over Edinburgh / My magic brings Voldemort to the yard and damn right it's hurting my scar / The old town, the quirky old-timey store fronts, the dark walls, architecture, little alleys. / the entrance hall of the National Scottish Portrait Gallery //

Oh, today’s post is a goody!!!
Today, I’m talking about creature comforts…and by that, I mean the pets that bring us comfort when we’re in pain, or just needing a little extra loving. This is a guest post and I’m going to be introducing you to several of my Internet friends and their furry companions.
Lets start with Catherine Taylor and her Bichon Chloe. Catherine shared this with me:
Bichons in general are very loyal and Chloe and I bonded from the start. It was like she imprinted on me … she was my shadow. When she was a pup, we had her outside one day, playing in the girl’s sandbox/play centre. It had a small slide and the girls put her at the top of it and ‘encouraged’ her to slide down it. Chloe was having nothing to do with it. I went to the bottom of the slide, crouched down and called to her. She turned around and saw me and tentatively made her way to the top, looked around once and then slid down to my waiting arms. This dog trusted me 100%. I love animals and feel privileged when an animal trusts me. I believed this dog would risk her life for me, if she had to. We were friends for life.
Chloe comfy in the chair
When I developed fibromyalgia, she stayed by my side as I spent more time in bed resting. She could have stayed near the action (and food) with other members of the family downstairs, but she became a fixture, literally, at my feet and often lying over them. It was like having a weighted therapy blanket (didn’t know about those back then). She wasn’t too heavy, just the perfect amount of pressure to make me feel snug and my feet warm, which are usually cold. She’d stay for the duration while I slept. Wherever I was, she was beside me.
Chloe laying on Mommy’s legs in bed!
As anyone can tell you, it’s comforting and soothing to have the warmth and devotion of another being close by, one that doesn’t require anything from you. Studies have shown that blood pressure and heart rate decrease when petting an animal. Chloe passed away last year and I miss having her by my side.
What a sweetheart!!!
Our next guest is Elaine Zena Feather and her precious rescue baby Felix
Felix is my gorgeous rescue fur baby. He’s been with me almost a year and a half and he was barely more than a kitten when arrived. My granddaughter named him Felix which is also special. We’re not sure if he had been abandoned but he was definitely very nervous. He was happy to come to me straight away and have cuddles but he kept finding little hidey holes when we first got home (including diving into my drawer under the bed and he would not come out lol. My son had to remove the drawer and coax him out. Before long he made himself right at home, stretching his long, furry body out on the carpet.
Stretched out!
He is such a loving boy and will lie right next to me wherever I am, snuggling up and wanting lots of cuddles. He will lie on my lap and turn himself over so he’s lying in my arms. Then he’ll put his paws up to my face for me to kiss them. I cannot imagine my life without him. He follows me round like a dog and comes running when I call. He’s very vocal and “chats” away to me. He really is a comfort and is loved by all my family. He is also very good with my grandchildren especially my grandson who was totally besotted with him. He has beautifully long fur and is happy to be brushed and will even roll over for me to do both sides lol.
Felix showing off his luxurious fur
His one “downfall” is he keeps bringing me “presents” which I do my best to rescue and then release back into the wild. Unfortunately I have ended up being bitten a few times by rescued mice and boy does it hurt. I just sometimes forget because I just want to try to pick them up before they disappear somewhere in my house that I won’t be able to find them. I can’t really blame Felix though because it’s what cats do and we have amazing open fields at the back of us which is a great hunting ground. They say having an animal reduces stress and stroking them is very good to reduce blood pressure but also to keep you alive longer. I totally believe that’s true cos having my snuggles with Felix is wonderful and makes me forgive him anything……..even him waking me up at 4am to go out lol xxx
Elaine and Felix cuddling each other
I love how furry Felix is!!
Our next guest is Julie Villefana and her Old English Sheepdog Don Pedro
I have been living and coping with having Fibromyalgia as well as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for many years. At the beginning I slept a lot, as well as cried and generally felt very unhappy. My mum lived with us, so I was busy hanging out with her. She basically got me out and about as little as I did. Then about 10 years ago my mum had a stroke and was first hospitalized and then placed in a Nursing Home. I was devastated. I had lost my only friend who really understood, or at least tried to understand my new-found life. Even though I am happily married, my hubby is away a lot. So, about 8 yrs ago we decided to get an Old English Sheepdog. We named him Don Pedro and he was 8 weeks old when we brought him home.
8 weeks old
He was so small that he fit on my mum’s tray on her wheelchair! He forced me to not only have to take him out to do his business and general exercise, but also to learn to smile again. He brought and still does, bring such joy to the world! He attracts attention wherever we are. Many stop to ask questions about him, to which I have to reply, naturally. He made me happy again. Sometimes I feel that I have to dress the part to just take him outside to be seen by the world. Plus, he is such a character and certainly has a personality of his own.
Playing with his girlfriend
If it weren’t for him my life would be very much duller. He seems to have adopted my lifestyle in that he rests when I do, which is a lot. Plus he seems to sense when I am at my worse and snuggles beside me on our bed. (We actually had to get a bigger bed as he tends to jump in ours and slowly push us to the edges so that he can stretch out)! I post a lot of pictures of our Don Pedro on Facebook and Instagram, etc, because he is so photogenic and adorable to us at least.
Look at that smile!
Just being adorable
We have been on the front page of the news twice, including even winning a Lookalike Competition! And now that we have recently moved to Victoria, he is constantly being photographed by the massive array of tourists. Yes I realize that his breed don’t live forever, and we hope that he will be with us for many more years of sheer joy, we know that he will leave us one day, where I will have to carry on as best I can, but for now I will enjoy everything that he has to offer. I thoroughly recommend an OES for anyone housebound and in constant pain as am I.
Julie and Don Pedro enjoying the snow
I can’t wait to meet Don Pedro as Julie and I are friends in real life and she just moved to my town of Victoria, BC!
And finally, there’s my pet, Dorie. What can I say about my sweet kitty? We’ve had her for 9 years now, since she was a kitten and she is definitely MY cat.
Dorie at 10 weeks old
She plays with Ray but she cuddles with me and I’m the one she curls up to at night when it’s bedtime. She sleeps tucked right up beside my tummy, as tight as she can and only moves when I need to get up to pee. She waits for me to come back and get comfy and then *boom* she’s right back in there again!
She seems to instinctively know when I’m having a bad day too. She loves to come curl up in my lap on those days, offering me comfort. On other days, when I’m blogging or otherwise occupied on the computer, she’ll stay close enough to wait to an opportunity to sneak onto my lap whenever she can!
Just waiting for her moment!
Dorie has two special toys that she considers her babies – a blue crocheted string and a small stuffed bunny. She carries Bunny and String around the house, chirping at them and leaving them in the strangest places. We’ve found them in the food bowl before, and I once found Bunny in the recycling bin and the bathtub! Our rule is that we never move them unless absolutely necessary.
Bunny and String
Here I’d only set my motorcycle helmet down for a short while but apparently it was a good home for both toys! Dorie makes me laugh with her antics and I think that’s one of the best things a pet can do for you when you live with chronic pain – laugh!
Do you have a pet that helps you feel better? Tell me about it in the comments below and if you’d like to be featured in a post like this in the future, send me your information in the Contact Me form and I’ll be in touch!
Thanks for reading!
There is always hope!
Creature Comforts Oh, today's post is a goody!!! Today, I'm talking about creature comforts...and by that, I mean the pets that bring us comfort when we're in pain, or just needing a little extra loving.

Two Easy Kids Birthday Parties: Into The Woods & Under The Sea
We’ve had so much fun putting together kids birthday parties with random themes like worms and dragons (complete with a fire-breathing kid photo session). Shortly after our last party post back in 2014 (remember the “Pink & Gold Everything Party“?), we took a step back from the blog for a full year, and in that time we were both curious: would our enthusiasm for going “all out” wane in the absence of an active blog? I mean, “all out” is probably a relative term. It wasn’t My Super Sweet Sixteen and there wasn’t a petting zoo, but we did our fair share of decorating and having fun with a theme and cupcake toppers and favors and all that stuff.
The answer ended up being – sorta yes, and sorta no. When our kids requested a joint party in 2015 (their birthdays are just 4 weeks apart) we thought it would be an interesting test. We definitely went easier on ourselves and worried less about busting out the camera and taking ten million photos, but we had just as much fun taking a quirky theme and running with it.
Since this was our first time hosting a joint birthday party, we looked for the intersection of our kids interests (does a 12-month old have interests?) to guide the decorations. Our little lady was going through a big fairy phase (hence the fairy garden we made for her that year) and bears are always a safe bet for our boy, so the theme mash-up landed somewhere in the “Woodland/Forest” zone – complete with toadstool & bear cupcakes, faux butterflies sitting on various items, and even some fairy poop, but we’ll get there in a minute.
The gist of the party was the same as all of our previous ones: just a low-key outdoor hangout with friends and family, much like our pink and gold party the year before. We ordered pizza, set out some sprinklers for the kids, and even busted out a piñata at one point. The whole woodland/forest theme mostly came to life in the food… or at least our interpretation of the food, which we set out on a couple of floral tablecloths that we got at HomeGoods years ago (gotta love that they’re colorful and washable – here’s something similar for anyone looking).
From chips that got labeled “fairy wings” to pretzels turned “twigs” we basically took party standards and gave them woodsy names (written on folded card stock right before guests arrived). Was it a stretch? Maybe a little. Did it keep life simple, make the kids smile, and bypass any the-printer-isn’t-working-and-guests-get-here-in-four-minutes meltdowns? Totally.
And when your guests are primarily preschoolers, anything labeled “poop” – especially when they’re Skittles or brownie bites – is sure to be a big hit. Trust me on this.
I probably had the most fun with the cupcakes, making two sets – one for the fairy crowd, and another set for the bear-lovers. My favorite party trick in general involves already-made food. So it’s not really cooking or baking as much as “hacking” or “tweaking” what you can grab at the store (remember the dragon spikes I made with AirHeads?). The base of both the bear and the fairy toadstool cupcakes were just plain white/vanilla grocery-store cupcakes, and I converted one tray-full into bear faces using some mini Chips Ahoy cookies and a couple of chocolate chips for the eyes. Literally took five minutes and the kids loved ’em.
The fairy toadstools just got dipped top-down into a plateful of red sugar sprinkles (the fine kind that looks like glitter), and then got a few white spots thanks to some candies I found at the store (they were “York Piece’s Peppermint Candies” that came in blue and white – I just picked out the white ones). A wood slice “plate” I already had added some extra flair, along with some fake butterflies and a little plastic fairy.
Fast-forward a year to 2016 and we found ourselves hankering to simplify our annual birthday party even more. The kids both still wanted a joint one and we all thought it would be fun to have it at one of their favorite playgrounds this time around, so we reserved a few tables under their big canopy. It wasn’t a free venue like past years, but at $50 it was still cheaper than a lot of kids birthday party spots. And this year, thanks to the impending release of Finding Dory, both of our kids were going through a big ocean phase, so we brought a singular theme (“Under The Sea”) to life in a few simple ways. Why hello there, dolphin balloon.
Apart from the blue tablecloths and the fish-y balloons (we also grabbed this colorful one), the theme was represented once again mostly in the food. We made it a morning party, so things were a bit more breakfast-y. Think fruit, bagels, croissants, donuts, and coffee for the grown ups. Plus I threw together a few simple sea-inspired snacks that the little ones enjoyed playing with and eventually eating (that’s high praise when it comes to young kids).
Our daughter still talks about the croissant crabs and the banana dolphins. She looked at me like I was a magician when I made these, even thought I just used some tooth picks and eyes cut out of card stock to make the croissants into crustaceans (I didn’t have any googly eyes, but drawing them looking in different directions and adding lashes to some of them was fun). And it just took slicing the top of the banana, slipping a grape in, and adding two pen dots for eyes to make the banana dolphins (despite our bananas getting a little bruised in transport, they were still the biggest hit).
The goodie bags, which you can see there in the background, were also nice and simple (what’s a kids’ birthday party without a little sugar rush on the way out?) and these couldn’t have been easier to make. Just a handful of blue Jelly Bellys and some Goldfish crackers “swimming” on top. The clear plastic party bags are $3 for 20 at Target by the way, and I just used string I had in my craft room to tie them closed.
Now back to the aforementioned donuts. Since it was before noon when our kids blew out their candles, we thought these made more sense than cupcakes. They were just a few plates stacked with always-popular Krispy Kreme donuts that we picked up on the way and adorned with a few plastic sharks. I’m not sure exactly what story we were telling here: are sharks attacking the donuts? Are the donuts life preservers thrown in vain to the swimmers caught in the fray? Whatever it was, the kids were into it.
And that brings us to this year… which we actually didn’t photograph at all except for snapping a few candid shots of the kids running around and spinning so fast they might barf on the tire swing. I said at the start of this post that the last few years have been sort of an experiment in how “all out” we’d go for these parties, and I think we’ve seen a slow deceleration in how much effort and money are needed to ensure that our kids have a good time and feel celebrated (and a huge deceleration in how much time we spend documenting it).
I actually don’t think it has anything to do with whether or not we’re blogging – but as our kids have gotten older (they’re 7 and 3 now) we’ve realized they love a quirky snack or a random theme (we landed on “Bugs” this year) but they could care less about whether the tablecloth is consistent with the favors or whatever. They generally just want to be around their friends, to be sung to, and to stuff some icing in their cake holes.
So this year we sent an Evite out to a bunch of their friends for a meet-up at a neighborhood playground (no table reservation – it was free) and we rolled up with pizzas, drinks, cupcakes, a plethora of gummy worms, and some bright balloons. The weather was great, the kids exhausted themselves playing on every piece of equipment there was, and heck – even us adults had a nice chill time hanging out, not even thinking twice about the fact that the “good camera” stayed at home.
