The mother of George Floyd's daughter plans to file a $250 million lawsuit against Kanye West over his recent statements about Floyd's death. The rapper, who goes by Ye, falsely claimed on #DrinkingChamps podcast that Floyd died from fentanyl, not as the result of police brutality.
"Kanye's comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd's life and to profit from his inhumane death," attorney Pat D. Dixon III told Complex in a statement on Tuesday, adding that the goal with the lawsuit is to "hold Mr. West accountable" for his "flagrant remarks."
The lawsuit will go after West's "business partners" and "associates" as the comments caused "harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress."
Roxie Washington, acting on behalf of her and Floyd's only child, Gianna, retained the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law. They also fired off a cease and desist to West.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been sentenced to 21 years in a federal prison for violating George Floyd's civil rights. Chauvin, who pleaded guilty in December, will also be required to pay restitution.
During the sentencing, U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson said that Chauvin "must be held responsible" for his actions, including destroying the lives of the other three officers involved in Floyd's death.
Chauvin's plea deal, which Magnuson accepted in May, called for a sentence of 20 to 25 years. Magnuson shaved seven months off of the 21-year sentence for time already served — last year, Chauvin was convicted in a state court on murder and manslaughter charges related to Floyd's May 2020 death and sentenced to 22 1/2 years. He will serve the state and federal sentences concurrently in a federal prison.
Chauvin, who is White, killed Floyd by pinning the unarmed Black man to the pavement with his knee for 9 1/2 minutes, despite Floyd's fading pleas of "I can't breathe." Floyd's death sparked protests worldwide and forced a national reckoning over police brutality and racism.
Prior to his sentencing Thursday, Chauvin wished Floyd's children "all the best in their lives" and that they have "excellent guidance in becoming good adults," CBS Minnesota reports. He did not offer an apology.
Floyd's brother, Philonise Floyd, asked the judge for a life sentence, adding that he has had nightmares since his brother's death, according to CBS Minnesota.
Prosecutors pushed for the former police officer to serve all 25 years on the grounds that his actions during Floyd's death were cold-blooded and needless. They also argued that he had a history of misusing restraints — Chauvin's plea included an admission that he violated the rights of a then-14-year-old Black boy whom he restrained in an unrelated case in 2017.
The defense instead asked for 20 years, saying Chauvin accepts responsibility for what he did and has already been sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison by a state court in Floyd's murder. Attorney Eric Nelson wrote that Chauvin's "remorse will be made apparent to this Court."
In pleading guilty to violating Floyd's civil rights, Chauvin admitted for the first time that he kept his knee on Floyd's neck — even after he became unresponsive — resulting in his death. The former officer admitted he willfully deprived Floyd of his right to be free from unreasonable seizure, including unreasonable force by a police officer.
Chauvin is appealing his murder conviction, arguing that jurors were intimidated by the protests that followed and prejudiced by heavy pretrial publicity.

As some of the replies to the tweet point out, the Senate knew exactly what it was doing. Fuck them all.
Yesterday marked exactly two years since George Floyd was killed in broad daylight. Instead of any meaningful reform or efforts to move away from militarized police and police brutality, the debate among lawmakers at all levels is how much more money to give to the police as if we just didn't see how useless the police in Uvlade, Texas were.
I'm at a loss on how to properly address the lack of progress because it looks like my initial instincts to avoid social media at the end of May 2020 were correct since a plurality of the white population is back to pre-George Floyd attitudes on race.

Fuck Derek Chauvin and anyone else who supports that piece of shit murderer. That piece of shit is literally on camera killing George Floyd and these stupid bitches are still trying to say that he died from drugs. The lengths yt will go to excuse fucked up shit is ridiculous. But let it have been the other way around, then their funky asses would’ve been singing a different tune.

There’s a troubling train of thought I see some places online- some people think Kanye is being cancelled because he pissed off the “wrong people” (Jews.) That kind of thinking, though often unintentional, still furthers the antisemitic lie that the Jews are the ones “in charge” in some way. In reality, brands are dropping Kanye for a combination of the white lives matter shirt ordeal, his antisemitic comments, and his lies about George Floyd. He is being cancelled for *both* his antisemitism and antiblackness

In an Instagram post, #KanyeWest calls out the mother of George Floyd's daughter and sent her a message that reads "God Don't Like Ugly."
On Sunday (Oct. 30), Kanye West jumped on his Instagram page and posted a lengthy note directed at the mother of George Floyd's daughter, Roxie Washington, who is considering suing Kanye for $250 million for defamation because Ye said Floyd died from fentanyl not from a police office kneeling on Floyd's neck.
TheShadeRoom was able to grab the screenshots before West took it down.
"Now for Roxie Washington and Roxie Washington ALONE," Ye begins his missive. "I gave 2 million dollars out of my pocket for the family. To help George’s daughter…Your daughter!"
"I can guarantee that most of those that came for me after my comments didn’t do what I did! Even those with millions of dollars in the bank!" he continues. "How much did BLM give???? Many gave words. I ACTED."
"Now because of words you want to sue me for 250 million dollars…," Kanye adds, referring to the $250 million lawsuit Roxie Washington's attorneys filed against Kanye for his offending comments he made about how George Floyd died during his interview on Drink Champs in early October. "When I'm going through an Economic lynching. A Digital Lynching. A Social Credit Score bankrupting. You’re either being controlled or you’re being greedy."
Kanye then apologizes to George Floyd's family.
"To the Floyd family: I apologized to you and the black community for my comments on Drink Champs. Humbly, he writes. "Now Come get Roxie before she mess up all y’all money. The Bible is the umbilical chord…Stay Connected."
