Jaehaera Targaryen (OC) X GreenVsBlack
Masterlist
How did everyone feel about her training to be a knight?
Viserys
Well, to be fair, Viserys had to approve to let this all happen. He definitely had his fears, and worried until hair began to fall from his head— but that’s not too out of character for him. He had two fearless daughters who loved to test the limits every second of the day and night; he was bound to have some sort of ulcer.
Although, at the beginning he would have had a fit— not necessarily with Jaehaera because she’s his baby— but with Daemon. The blame would have been totally put on his younger brother, because his daughter had never seemed interested in participating in such affairs until he sparred with her. Without a doubt— Jaehaera would have to train with Daemon in secret. There’s no way Viserys wouldn’t ban his brother from teaching Jaehaera. He would make the excuse of it being to protect her from his harsher methods of teaching, or the fouler play Daemon liked to use in battle. Whichever he’d use, it didn’t really matter anyhow. He was the king and that would be his decree.
However, that wouldn’t stop Jaehaera from sneaking into the gardens or the dragons keep to meet Daemon in the night to train, talk, etc.
There’s no way he could keep those two apart for too long, and deep down, Viserys knew.
So, since Daemon was banished from the training grounds whenever Jaehaera’s feet were on the soil, Viserys would appoint the best knights to spar with her. Ser Harwin and Criston were the main two.
Often, when he had free time and didn’t have a lord breathing down his neck, Viserys would go and watch her train. Pride was evident in his face as he watched her succeed. Though, when she started becoming exceedingly knowledgeable, he noticed the boredom which would take over his daughters face when she took on two knights. Soon it would be three, four, five…. Ten.
At some point Viserys had to give in to his daughter’s wishes of going onto the battlefield, to quench her thirst for victory. Her bloodlust didn’t go unnoticed by him, by he ignored it for the sake of his sanity. Instead he focused on the smile which Jaehaera after returning home from a war or siege, rather that the red all around it— dripping of her hair and jaw.
“Another fine victory, my dear.” He would say, reach an arm out for his daughter to take.
Jaehaera would turn, grabbing a cloak of an innocent night to wipe her hands clean of sticky blood, before finally taking his hand with a wide smile. “Thank you father.”
Daemon
He fucking loves it.
And when Viserys accuses him of starting Jaehaera’s infatuation with the craft— you better believe he takes fully credit.
“What can I say brother? It would be a waste of her talent. She’s a fucking dragon.”
Oh, and while he had planned to keep sparring with Jaehaera even after his brother forbid him to, Daemon was honestly— and delightfully surprised to wake up to her poking him in the side with the sword he’d give her.
Which she had named, Death’s mistress— much to Daemon’a pleasure.
From that night on they trained in the gardens, in the dragons keep (which would rile up Caraxes and Shrykos to no limit), and sometimes even on kings landings walls. After a while Daemon and Jaehaera would make a game of it all. Whoever was caught first by knights had to do a request of the others choosing, and they couldn’t back out. No matter what.
Let’s just say… Daemon looks awfully beautiful in a dress.
Now, when it comes to true battles and matters a war…
It’s literally the same. These two don’t take anything serious when they’re with each other. Daemon and Jaehaera will literally be making bets, bantering, or (most definitely started by daemon) gossiping. From time to time, specifically in the war against Craghas Dahar (the Crabfeeder), Lord Corlys Velaryon even caught the two flirting.
“Have I ever told you how ravishing you are in red, Issa jaesa?”
“Hmm, almost ever battle.”
“Almost?” Daemon would chuckle, shaking his head in ‘shame’. “I’ll have to do better than.”
Although, jokes aside, if someone had ever managed to even land a single blow or slice Jaehaera’s skin— Daemon would be so livid. If all of the enemy wasn’t going to die already, they would now.
And seven hells, as big of an ego Daemon has, you wouldn’t think that he’d like to lose so often. But when Jaehaera beats him, he seems to only like her more.
Rhaenyra
She’d definitely have a love/hate relationship with Jaehaera being a knight, or warrior of some kind.
Firstly, Rhaenyra would absolutely love watching Jaehaera fight. She’s adore every win and revel in every hit that someone would receive from Jaehaera if they’d managed to touch her. There’s no way that she’d be against it, because she herself was a girl with immense power. To her it was obvious that in the future, she’d be queen, and Jaehaera would be her hand.
This would also mean that Viserys would feel more inclined to let Rhaenyra and Jaehaera go off on their own. If having a fire breathing dragon wasn’t enough, Jaehaera being on her arm eighty percent of the time would make up for it.
“Father I will quite literally be on Syrax’s back.”
“It doesn’t matter. You cannot go out without sufficient protection. You are the heir to the iron throne, you cannot be so reckless—,”
“Jaehaera will also accompany me.”
“… Fine, be back by dawn.”
Secondly, she would cherish the bond between her Uncle, Daemon, and her sister. Rhaenyra had always been fond of Daemon, and she adored Jaehaera. It was like two of her favorite people coming together. They loved each other, and they loved her. Something so consuming and big enough to go around.
Not to mention she liked to see Daemon get knocked on his ass a few times.
BUT… this would also mean Rhaenyra would be quite lonely when both are gone for extended periods of time. She trusted and knew that they’d both keep each other safe, that was not the worry. It was just the fact she was hoarded up in the walls of kings landing without any other comfort that Alicent and her dragon.
And one would later be taken from her too.
Alicent
If she were to say everything she thought out loud, everyone would have know her wariness of the idea. Even after seeing Jaehaera’s talent for it, she’d worry.
Alicent grew up on tradition, having to take up a motherly role after the death of her own. Not to mention her father is a holy terror who his hunger for power. So in her mind, it was unnatural for a woman to wield a sword.
Yet, she also couldn’t help but feel a pool of inspiration within her stomach when watching Jaehaera fight with such determination. Deep in her mind, she could see Jaehaera and Rhaenyra breaking the mold of what could and couldn’t be. Sadly, she just couldn’t comprehend herself in that position.
“Do you not approve?” Jaehaera would ask, no malice or judgement in n her tone.
Alicent stopped in her track, in return hindering Jaehaera’s movements by their connecting hands. “What?
“You always look so distraught at my tournaments or when you watch me train. If it displeases you; you don’t have to come. It would not offend me.”
“No! It doesn’t displease me. I just… I worry.” Her head would drop in embarrassment at the words, cheeks and ears flushing pink.
She’d hear a light, breathy laugh come from Jaehaera, making her blush rage even further. However, she’d be calmed by Jaehaera’s hand cupping her cheek— claiming her gaze once more.
“How caring you are Ali,” she grins, head bent to observe her friend’s expression. “And worrisome. It’ll be your downfall if you let it continue.”
So it goes without saying— Fuck Otto.
Otto
Speaking of such asshole…
This bitch would have soooo many backhanded remarks to dish out whilst Jaehaera is to busy kicking ass to beat his.
At first, he would be impressed. He’d never let anyone know it, but he would be. But once Jaehaera got too powerful for his liking Otto would stop at no end to try and belittle Jaehaera.
This man has a death wish I swear
Daemon, at any time possible would threaten him— in public and in private. Sometimes when Otto turns his back, Daemon would pretend to run Dark Sister through his heart or straggle him. This would bolster become an inside joke between him, Rhaenyra, and Jaehaera.
Summary: he’d only help dig his grave, especially in the instance, where he questions Rhaenyra’s honor and loses his job as the king’s hand.
Laenor
Let’s set this straight right away, Laenor and Jaehaera are the definition of besties. They appreciate each other’s uniqueness and differences.
Laenor is a older than Jaehaera, but he never acts like it. Which she appreciates deeply. He would a hundred percent be one to come to one of her tournaments and shameless scream at the top of his lungs cheering her on.
“Let’s go Jae!!! Kick his ass!! Knock him off the fucking horse!”
“THAT— THAT WAS FOUL PLAY! HE CHEATED I SWEAR TO— oh never-mind she won.”
Not to mention, they both guard each other with all their might. The pair share bits and pieces of themselves, knowing that they are one of the only few that would understand.
(Their bond would most definitely strengthen after the war with the Crabfeeders.)
Jaehaera would definitely be only one of the few to accept and understand Laenor sexuality. She would be his rock during the tough time before, during, and after the wedding. In return he’d be there for her when she starts questioning and experimenting.
And holy crap the tag team they would be, the inside jokes they would have, the excuses they would make for each other.
God help if they start drinking—
“Is that the pretty maid you’re so infatuated with I see???” Laenor hums teasingly in her ear as they sip wine, laid back in the cushioned chairs of the banquet.
“Mhm, and is that the squire you’ve been drooling over for the past week?” Jaehaera quips back gesturing to the singing man not too far away.
Both sit in silence for a few seconds, sharing a knowing look.
“Cover for me?”
“You went first last week.”
“But you take forever.”
“It’s called foreplay. You should try it some time.”
Corlys and Rhaenys
Corlys would high key be proud. He already sees Jaehaera as a second daughter, after spending so much time teaching her at Driftmark. Not to mention he loves the kinship she has with Laenor and Laena.
He would be the one to request her help during the war, only to be gifted with Jaehaera AND Daemon.
If we’re being completely honest we know he’d be a progressive dad, and it would be a necessity for all his children to know how to defend themselves anyway.
Rhaenys would be the same way, just more nurturing. She’d definitely baby Jaehaera a little more, which she wouldn’t mind. There would be light scolding if Jaehaera came back with injures, which was rare, but secretly Jaehaera would allow a few opponent to get in a hit just see Rhaenys get all mother bear and protective.
And when the fighting is done, she along with Rhaenyra are the only two that could convince her to wear a dress.
Ser Harwin
Jaehaera’s biggest fan (competing with all her other family members and friends), especially after the hunt when Rhaenyra and her came back blooded in hog remains. He would teach her all he knew, keeping a few secrets to himself just for good measure.
Even though later on she would whoop his ass.
Take EXTREME pleasure in watching her beat Ser Criston. This would definitely make a small friendship between Daemon and him.
And they, unknowing to Daemon, made a deal that if he were to ever spot her first while patrolling as she sparred with Daemon— he’d pretend to of seen Daemon instead. This occurred rarely, but she couldn’t help but giggle when it did. In return, she’d forward his gifts and love letters to Rhaenyra.
While, unabashedly, Jaehaera wanted Rhaenyra all to herself most of the time; she also never wished to control her. So after Rhaenyra smiled after receiving the first letter, Jaehaera continued on.
Ser Criston
He’s a little bitch that doesn’t like to lose… enough said.
Now, bonus section, what do the younger generation think of her being skilled in the art of weaponry?
Aegon
Again, this lucky bastard was able to grow up watching Jaehaera train and fight. And while he never seen her kill, he knew that she could do it.
He held a high respect for her, and listened to her when she needed him to, which granted him the ability to banter to shamelessly with her.
She would teach him whenever she could, but she noticed he didn’t have a true love for it. So… instead she took him drinking. RESPONSIBLY. Don’t worry it was always in the castle.
During these moments she’d answer almost every question that came to him mind. And let’s be so real, most of them would be outlandish and dirty. But again, respectfully so. He’d never wish to make her uncomfortable, because she always did the same for him.
Oh and she’d for sure show him how to play instrument or some kind of roadly trade. This being after he tells her his plan to run away to live a life of leisure and pleasure.
She’d recommended Dorne or Narth and would offer him a ride and secrecy.
And let’s just clear the air— Aegon would not be a rapist and such a bastard if Jaehaera was around. She would for sure make sure he treated everyone with respect, and how women were not objects. For what would he think if some lord or lady treated her like that?
Helaena
Oh, the baby. We love her. She would ABSOLUTELY fawn over Jaehaera. Just in general. Whatever she did was magic to Helaena. So her being skilled in swordsmanship was a cherry on top to it all.
Helaena would for sure entertain Jaehaera with her studies on bugs. In fact— Jaehaera would like her sisters rambling and ‘nonsensical’ chatter so much, that she would have Helaena come and talk to her as she trained. No doubt Jaehaera would order the knight she was sparring with to be quiet, and if Helaena had to repeat herself— whoops down he goes.
Jaehaera would probably be one of the only ones to pick up on Helaena’s gift as well. Because she pays attention to the child and has the common sense to put two and two together.
“The girl with the dragon’s eye will reach the sky and touch the tide— just to be saddened as a raven flies by.”
Aemond
I’m sorry, but if you thought Aemond’s expression for Daemon was something— think again.
Aemond was forever in awe of Jaehaera. And you best believe this hypocritical bitch would go on and on talking shit about Jace and Luc, but if someone said one word about her legitimacy. They die.
When he’s young, and he finally meets her, he will become a koala. It’s like he’s reverted back to being a toddler. He will follow her everywhere, which he means to be discreet, but of course— she knows.
“You know it could be seen as awfully creepy following a lady around.”
Aemond’s face would be bright red when she calls him out, and he would apologize profusely, until she cuts him off.
“You’re lucky I’m not a lady.” She’d smirk, offering her hand. “Come along, I’m going to the library to put in a few new books I got from the Vale of Arryn.”
Study sessions are a must, Aemond wants to know everything, and later he would train with her a lot more than his brother. I think it’s rather obvious how much he likes to fight, so under Jaehaera’s guidance he’d become even stronger.
Jaehaera would be one of the only ones to comfort Aemond when he doesn’t get a dragon when all the rest do. She’s one of the only people that can understand him, and because of this she would offer to take him riding on Shrykos whenever able.
Aemond is very closed off, but when it comes the Jaehaera everything is on the table. EVERYTHING. Boy will lay out his trauma, insecurities, desires, and dreams in front of her. He makes all the time he has with her count to, because she’s always traveling.
In a sense I think he also admired and envies that about her. Aemond continuously feels like he has prove himself and has to live up to the standards Alicent give him. Not to mention he has to pick up the slack in which Aegon might lack.
“Would you take me with you?”
“Where do you want to go?”
“What?”
“Well I don’t have a definitive location yet, I usually just let Shrykos go where she pleases.”
“So you’d really take me? I mean… I wouldn’t be a bother?”
“Why would you?”
Jacaerys
To be fair, this boy would have ended up a feminist even without Jaehaera. His mom is literally Rhaenyra, and he would stand by her and her claim at any moment. So, he’s basically a walking ally.
Jace would for sure fight anyone who said anything sexist about any woman, let alone his mom and aunt. Oh, and let’s not forget that Daemon later becomes his step dad too, so with Daemon and Jaehaera teaching him— he can back up his bark.
Not to mention all of the secret lessons Jaehaera would give him when he was younger. Any of the gifts given to him by her over time would be well kept like trophies. Jaehaera was the one to give him his first personal sword; Jace would treat it like a newborn.
“What are you doing it’s like the fifth time you’ve cleaned your sword?!”
“Shut up Luc, she’s precious! At least I know how to care for her properly— AYE GIVE HER BACK!”
After years of growing up with her influence, Jace and Luc are way more mischievous but also reasonable. He could definitely hear a whole argument, scolding, and congratulations through one glance from his aunt.
Oh, and she taught him how to cook. Don’t ask why, it just happened— I will not take any arguments.
Lucerys
Luc is her baby. I mean, he’s her sisters son, but he is her baby.
Even as Luc grows older, even after she teaches him how to defend himself, and even if he gets married, becomes lord of Driftmark, and has kids of his own. Jaehaera will see him as the precious little bean he is.
And to be fair, Jaehaera would be the one to push him to practice more. He’d be totally terrified, and would never really want to have to use the skill (seeing as if already causes a rift between him and Aemond after the incident), but he would do it just to please her. She’d also encourage him by saying:
“What’ll happen if I’m old, can barely stand and defend myself? You won’t be able to protect me if you don’t even know the basics.”
That’s really all it took for him to jump up early in the mornings and meet her for training. The thought of protecting his family would drive Luc to do anything, and that’s why she adored him so.
Luckily, after he’s learned the basics, Jaehaera moves on the teach him about everything else she can think of. Whether it be politics, literature, culture, economics, etc. Luc LOVES it.
Jaehaera would ride Shrykos right next to the first ship Luc ever sails/captains on his own as well. Both watching each other with pride. Then, sometimes when Jaehaera is feeling extra lively, she may even swoop down and ‘steal’ him. Pretending to be a pirate and see if he can escape from her clutch. However, Luc never really tries because the truth of it is he doesn’t want to.
Baela
Because she has the rashness and chaotic nature of her Father, she definitely wants to be as good as Jaehaera when she grows up. She would idolize her.
Daemon would let her start whenever she’d want to, and he’d settle for no one less than himself and Jaehaera. She would also be a quick study, so she’d almost mimic Jaehaera in some ways. Quickly needing a minimum of four or five opponents to remain interested.
When she’s little, and Jaehaera comes to visit and stay for a while, Baela totally sneaks into her room to try on her armor and training clothes.
“And what do we have here?” Jaehaera asks playfully, leaning against the doorway of her bathroom— where she had been peacefully taking a bath. That was until she heard something fall in her room.
Baela, practically drowning in Jaehaera’s leather and metal armor, would have dropped a boot or something— blushing from being caught red handed.
“I just wanted to look like aunt Jae.”
Jaehaera was ready to smother that child in kisses.
“We’ll then you’d need it in your proper size Issa byka perzys.”
(Oh and that right hook she used on Aemond— Jaehaera taught her that.)
Rhaena
She must be protected.
Jaehaera’s relationship with Rhaena is really similar to the one she has with Luc, except she know how shit this world can be for women. So her protectiveness spreads a bit farther in that aspect.
Because Rhaena was more reserved and less hot headed than her sister, she was deemed more ‘approachable’, and even though she would be betrothed to Jace not to long after ‘coming of age’, lords of court could still be such vultures.
Thus why Jaehaera would teach her just like her sister. And while Rhaena and Jaehaera did not necessarily have the same hobby or interest, it meant nothing to them. Rhaena still admired her just as much as Baela. She would also be complimented non stop by Jaehaera, whether it be about her beauty, her intelligence, simply existing— Jaehaera thought Rhaena to be a gift to this nasty society.
Both were the future for women. Both on different levels and lifestyle— but one in the same right.
On a sillier note, they would definitely play a game to see who could make the other smile first with flattery.
“You’re absolutely breathtaking, Issa nykeēdar lily.”
Rhaena would hold back an infectious smile, trying to hold out. “Not nearly as ethereal as you Jaehaera.”
“Always so formal, you have to be one of the most graceful ladies I’ve ever met. I can see why you have Luc wrapped around your finger already.”
Jaehaera won.
