Bluesky (with a bit of Tumblr assist) Color Wheel Challenge! I want to stress that all of the red/orange suggestions folks sent in here were so good. Genuinely went back and forth on a number of them. Thanks so much for sending 'em in! :D
About time I draw something like this, tried exploring some body shape differences and color palettes, might still change some stuff later since I鈥檓 still trynna figure it out but for now this is how I鈥檒l draw them!!:333
this was my first introduction to Generator Rex, to Rex Salazar specifically. I saw it for like a few minutes when I was 8, but these scenes burned themselves into my brain, and in another 10 or so years I re-discovered the show, became obsessed, and memorized every scene from every episode (except the prank one, because that episode was a mistake). Why?
because this scene permanently impacted how I saw heroes. they aren't there to beat the bad guy. they're there to save people. and they do it not because they are forced to, or guilted into it. they do it because they want to. because they care if people get hurt, even if those people are complete strangers.
these scenes are largely responsible for my disdain for modern live-action superhero spectacles, where the heroes "save the day", but leave countless civilians dead.
it is also the reason why I have come to love shows like Justice League Unlimited:
Or Invincible:
or the new show, My Adventures with Superman:
they GET IT. they GET WHY SAVING PEOPLE IS IMPORTANT.
because at the end of the day, it's not beating up the villain of the week that is important. it's saving lives.
Thinking about that one time in JL TAS when Batman thought Wonder Woman was buried under rubble and literally dug through it with his bare hands until she climbed out and then proceeded to hide his hands from her. Thinking about how it took Flash (2) minutes of talking to get him to go to Flash Appreciation Day and drag Orion along with him. Thinking about how Batman, literally he squishiest and most vulnerable member of the team, shot Martian Manhunter and the Flash away from the Watchtower so he could crash it into the enemy鈥檚 doomsday weapon, KNOWING he was far more likely to die than those two. Thinking about how on Superman鈥檚 birthday he personally delivered cash, knowing it was a shit gift, to him in the Fortress of Solitude because聽 he didn鈥檛 know how to give it otherwise. Thinking about how Batman is aware that he probably won鈥檛 ever fix Gotham, but still goes out and does it anyway because every life he saves is another life that won鈥檛 end up like his. Thinking about how Batman鈥檚 greatest strength is not his intelligence, or his skill, or his willpower, but his compassion for life even at its ugliest.
