1. Hi! I hope you can help me find this fic.
Wangxian is married here. Lan zhan was cursed to forget his love to wei ying and wei ying did everything (like studying the curse) to lift it out. I remember in the end, Lwj remember his love to wei ying and apologized to wwx for treating him bad. He felt guilty and resentful to himself but wwx assured him that its fine since he was cursed

2. Can anyone help me find a fic where part of it talks about how if he'd asked, JY would have done WWX's hair for him like she did JC's, but he never asked so he learnt on his own (possibly to avoid YZY's rage?)
FOUND? Always walked a very thin line by tucuxi (T, 22k, NHS & WWX, JYL & WWX, WangXian) It's a small bit that happens when NHS is brushing WWX's hair, and WWX thinks that nobody's done that for a long time

3. Hello!! I'm looking for a jiang wanyin/lan xichen centric fic where jc is stuck in a time loop??
He repeats his lives 5-6 times and lan xichen remembers all the timelines where he actually already loved jc
But he married meng yao as a friendship marriage in one tl
In another tl jc murdered meng yao and lxc witnesses amd goes into seclusion because of it
combining the lxc/jc + the time loop tags yields only three fics so it should be easy to find the right one (i haven't read any of them so i wasn't sure), and looking for lxc/jc + searching the word 'groundhog' turns up one more fic but it doesn't seem relevant to the ask
NOT FOUND! Incrementally by xxdz (M, 15k, WIP, XiCheng, Time Loop, Horror, Murder Mystery, Inspired by Happy Death Day (Movies), Post-Canon, Blood and Injury, Hurt/Comfort, Temporary Character Death, Character Study)

4. you guys are wonderful! thank you so much for all your help finding fics!!! i have a half itmf/half fic finder question --- any angsty dark lan clan fics that focus on wei ying, but especially one where they break his soul bond(?) with Lan Zhan --- i think i remember one where later on they need WY's help - any suggestions greatly appreciated! (also in an Itmf)

5. hello! theres this fic i know i read on ao3 but cant seem to find in my history or bookmarks. i hope it wasnt deleted. its post canon, lan zhan and wei ying go out on a mission but lan zhan gets infected or hit with a curse without them noticing, and starts gradually losing all his senses, starting with hearing, then i think sight, then so on until he cant move or do anything at all and he’s at risk of death. wei ying and lan xichen figure out together how it happened and they save him so lan zhan is completely healed by the end. i believe it was either M or E rated bc there were a couple sex scenes early on but i dont think they were very explicit. i hope you can find this fic, thank you so much!!

7. Hi! Can you help me find these 2 fics? I tried filtering out but can’t still find it.
A) Modern Au. Wwx left the jiang family and then met Lwj. I remember the two started living together but then as the time passed by, wwx notices that lwj isolating him to outside world. I also remember wwx broke up with lwj but lwj is stubborn keep coming to wwx school. He even threaten wwx about the jiang family so he’ll come back to him.
B) Modern au too I think? I only remember Lwj saw wwx burying a dead body (i think it was wen chao) and assist him on it.

8. Hello! The fic I am looking for is one where Jiang Cheng somehow erases Wei Wuxian from existence. Jiang Yanli lives as a consequence, but now everyone is subjugated by the Wen, as without WWX the Sunshot Campaign lost. I have only seen this fic in passing and really want to read it but now I can't find it lol. I remember that there was a tag for "Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji / Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian", so I assume at some point they get him back, but I cannot remember any more details other than this. Thank you so much for your help and I hope you have a wonderful day!!! @coffeeshopdragons

9. hi ! me again 😅 i was wondering if any of you know the fic where lan wangji forgets about his love for wei wuxian (i think he got cursed?) and is very indifferent towards him. It starts with him forgetting to buy chili oil for wy to him not wanting to spend time together anymore. At one point he asks wwx “why did i marry you?”. I think lwj was conscious the entire time he was cursed and was heartbroken bc he could see how everything he said and did was hurting wy. I knew i read it recently but i cant find it in my history for some reason. thanks so much you guys are amazing <33 @makkachiin

10. Hello! Currently looking for a fic in which LWJ and WWX spent a night together in a tent and there was misunderstanding when LWJ woke up thinking he forced WWX to have papapa-
JC ends up threatening LWJ if WWX ends up preggo then he will not be allowed to see them (I think Wuxian was a carrier??), because JYL then entered the tent right after LWJ left and saw WWX all bruised up (it was hickies) whilst passed out (sleeping only) and assumed LWJ SA her Xianxian. 11. Hi, I'm looking for a fic where wei ying starts out in the modern world as a doctor who has fallen on hard times and can't practice as one anymore because of previous mistakes. He dies in a lab explosion and gets sent to the canon-time cultivation world, where everyone believes he's an evil megalomaniac. Lan zhan realizes that wei ying isn't evil and takes him back to cloud recesses, where wei ying learns cultivation - there is some smutty dual cultivation involved, then comes happy every after. @annie-booksforfood

12. Hiya! I saw on this post for Medium Blues over on WangxianFicRecs that there's a short sequel to the fic, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. I looooove the fic so much and would really like to read the sequel, so I'm wondering if anyone happens to have more info or a copy? Thank you! @gentil-minou (the author may have deleted the sequel because medium blues had been deleted before - Mod C)
Oooh I do remember that a medium blues sequel was begun but I think only a chapter or so was posted?

13. Hey, can you please help me find a series?

14. Hello, this for the “Find a Specific Fic” tag. I’ve been looking for fic staring a older Lan Wangji who gets sent back to the cloud recess ark, and meets his younger self who becomes jealous. The younger Lan Wangji is jealous because Wei Ying is no longer pestering him anymore, opting to instead follow the older Lan Wangji who spoils him. Hopefully this helps, and thank you for your hard work. Sincerely, Bianca. @biancabaryonx

All I can remember is that Lan Wangji ends up in the woods and WWX helps him getting out, but when he tries to thank him WWX disappears. LWJ then finds the Jiangs and inquires about him but they can't actually remember him: they only remember they had a brother once (I think?). Hope this makes enough sense and thanks in advance

19. Hello! Good day! I hope you can help me find this fic. I don’t know if it is a time-travel fic or not. All I can remember is that Madam Yu got pregnant and the sect leader, jiang yanli, jiang cheng, and wwx were happy. But eventually they learned that madam yu cheated (i forgot if its a wen or not) so the baby is actually not sect leader jiang’s child. I think they learned this after the masscre of lotus pier when madam yu ranaway.

20. Hi. I'm looking for a fic that I was pretty sure was luckmoonly's and was in the many lan babies series but now I am worried about my brain because it's not there and the traces of it are gone, to the point I think I hallucinated that fic. But if I remember the title was "The fault in my core" and WWX was supposed to get his core removed but they found a core baby near it so they didn't continue the operation. Pls tell me I was just looking at the wrong place with my f-ed up memory 🥹 and the fic is somwhere out there and I was just too stupid to find it. Thank u in advance! ❤️
FOUND! The fic was deleted. All your informations (name, author etc.) were correct. I have a copy, if you want one. - @bluekittenfire

Note
Not to be sexist or make suffering a contest but I am thinking about how the all the other wives of the great sect leaders are:
-attic wife’d
-married to Jin Guangshan
-married to Wen Ruohan
-dead from circumstances unknown
And I can’t help but like side eye Madam Yu being absolutely terrible to everyone at Lotus Pier like why are you so angry? Why are you taking your anger out on children? You literally get to do whatever you want and at most your husband will raise his voice like an octave higher would it kill you to not be mean to everyone including your own children 24/7
I mean, I get where you're coming from but "why are you angry you're not even abused by your husband" is a really, really low bar.
I don't like Madam Yu.
She's mean and lashes out at people who aren't to blame for her situation, namely her children, and every time she makes an entrance in any scene and in any adaption - even CQL who tried to give her some last emotional scene with JFM - she's a horrible person to everyone involved.
But also, it's understandable, isn't it? She's the only woman who has both a name and a title and, while she does die, doesn't die for man-pain specifically. MDZS has very few female characters who are even allowed a name, never mind a voice. Madam Yu is stuck in a marriage where she isn't wanted in a patriarchal society that, at heart, doesn't want her either. What power does Madam Yu really have? She can't divorce the husband she married for power, her children never measure up to impossible standards or even some regular ones in JYL's case and Madam Yu seems entirely unsuited to the role of a petite, obedient, beautiful sect leader's wife.
I do genuinely think that if Madam Yu had been born a man, he'd have been much less angry.
I don't think it is right of her to lash out the way she does - look at all those free mommy issues for the yunmeng siblings - but I don't think it's entirely incomprehensible why she is lashing out the way she is. In that regard, JFM's "tolerance" isn't helping either. He's letting her continue as she wants, which is tbh really only an illusion of freedom because again, he is her husband. It would've been perfectly within his right to restrict her. But he doesn't, which is probably meant as kindness, but really only serves as a reminder in her POV, I think.
In a way, I think Madam Yu, narratively, also serves the purpose of pointing these circumstances out. Who lives and does so happily? Mianmian, who gets out of the cultivation world. All the other women? They die. So if you wanna keep playing the game, you can either shut your mouth and stay quiet in your role, or you hold onto whatever power you have with utter bitterness.
Like I said, I don't like Madam Yu, but it isn't as though she doesn't have reason for her anger.

One of the things I love the most about yunmeng siblings is how protective they are of each other. Always.
Madam Yu scolded, "You are like this again! If you yourself don't seek progress, then don't drag Jiang Cheng to fool around with you. You are going to be a bad influence to him!"
Wei WuXian looked startled, "I don't seek progress? Why, I am not the one with the most progress in the entire Lotus pier?"
Young people were never too patient. They wouldn't feel satisfied unless they talked back. Hearing this, an air of hostility appeared over Madam Yu's forehead. Jiang Cheng hastened, "Wei Wuxian, shut up!"
He turned to Madam Yu, "It's not that we want to shot kites in Lotus Pier but, right now, isn't it that none of us are allowed to leave? The Wen Sect assigned all of night-hunt areas to itself. Even if I want to night-hunt, there isn't anywhere for me to go. To stay at home and not go outside to provoke or fight for prey with the Wen Sect - isn't this what you yourself made clear to father? "
Chapter 50
Jc, seeing his mother hostility, hastened, trying to redirect his mother attention, remembering her that's not wwx's fault that he is fooling around, the wen sect has forbidden them everywhere, he can't practice, he is trying to be a good sect heir, just as she wanted.
"Jiang Cheng! Go get some clothes on! You look no different than a barbarian! What would people think of me if they saw you?!"
[...]
Thus, Madam Yu's next sentence, as usual, was, "Wei Ying! Do you want to die!?"
[...]
Yet, all of a sudden, someone's quit voice drifted by Madam Yu's ear, "Mom, do you want to eat some watermelon..."
Madam Yu was startled by Jiang Yalin, who seemingly appeared out of nowhere. With the delay, all the boy have vanished into thin air. She was so infuriated that she tuned to Jiang Yanli and pinched her cheek, "Eat, eat, eat - all you do is eat!"
Jiang Yalin almost cried from her mother's pinching, mumbling, "Mom, A-Xian and the others were hiding here to relieve the heat and I came here on my own. Don't blame them... Do... Do you want some watermelon... I don't know who gave them to us, but it's really sweet. Eating watermelon in the summer is great for cooling down and quenching thirst. I'll cut them for you... "
Chapter 130
Jyl, seeing her mother rant, quietly takes action, offering her mother sweet watermelon because it's hot and watermelon is good for her, and she doesn't need to be angry, the guys were only chilling from the heat.
He blurted, "If she is dissatisfied, tell her to cancel this engagement! Either way, I don't care for your precious shijie. If you do, why don't you go ask her father for her hand?! Doesn't he treat you more dearly than his own son?"
The last comment made Jiang Cheng's gaze freeze. Wei WuXian was beside himself with rage, lunging with a raised fist. Although Jin Zixuan had expected the attack, he didn't expect Wei WuXian to be so fast, and the punch landed before he was done talking.
Chapter 18
At jzx's insults at both jc and jyl, wwx responded with a fist he landed before jzx was even done talking!
They love each other so fiercely! They are always ready to protect each others until their love isn't enough and they fall apart.

- Dd does the sword in and out thing right in front of the child
- Then they're in post-timeskip costumes and gg does a few of his dance moves
- They're doing a scene where they are about to walk up to a building where jc is. Gg turns to DD and whispers something in his ear, facing away from where they're going. Then he touches DD's sleeve.

6.2 dramatic rain scene with DD being obscene with the umbrella
(alt 6.7)
6.2 gg only with jc. Madam Jiang is there. They're planning out the whipping scene.
- GG calls JC "sausage" bc apparently the name Jiang Cheng sounds similar to the word "sausage"
- JC comments to the fight coordinator that he worries the audience will criticize the whipping scene bc Madam Yu is so harsh with WWX. GG teases him by pointing out a scene where JC tried to whip WWX. JC looks at the camera and says "I'm not that person."

- Ggdd with DD in blue robes outside. Between takes, they start singing something. I think this is when they're singing that aerobics song

6.8 ggdd. With jc. Jinlintai again. This time with jgy's wife. Dancing women in bg. Gg bites fan
- Under tent finger guns. Dd returns obscene gesture off camera. 👉👌

- Magnum wang moment
6.15 ggdd during wen indoctrination. In forest with lwj limping.

💙Remember
By:Amona
Summary:
Jiang Cheng was 6 years old when his father got him three puppies for his birthday. His first instinct was to look around cautiously, ready to gather the pups into his arms in case they decided to go towards —
His mind drew blank here.
Angsty AU, mind your brain and heart, but happy ending depending on the person. (before wwx death) WWX sacrifices his soul to give everyone the happy lives they want and need therefore everyone revives into the peaceful world we all loved and forget all about WWX life continues like that until one day JYL pours an extra bowl, JWY bangs on the door of an empty room and LWJ plays a melody he had never heard before and suddenly they remember the cheerful smile of someone they LOVED, but who?"
Chapter:29/32
Words:59,362
Status:ongoing
A few quote
Lan Zhan was only 5 years old when he told his mother about the strange feeling he had for as long as he could remember. "Feels heavy," he said as she gently stroked his hair, "feels empty." Those were the words of a child who felt too much and had too few words to describe it. His mother hummed thoughtfully and rearranged her arms around his little body. "Maybe you just miss your soulmate," she replied Yes, soulmate. The other half of your soul, the one who is destined to hold your heart. You will meet them someday and you will know immediately that it’s them," she explained. So, until then he had to endure this empty feeling? He didn’t know if he wanted that. But he did know one thing... "Want to see," he admitted softly. ’I want to see you, —’ ~~
Lan Wangji felt dread in his heart. ’—, I was too late, wasn’t I? I should have never looked away.’  ~~~
Lan Zhan was 16 years old when his sect accepted guest disciples from other sects for teaching, both to strengthen their ties and to further investigate the matter of Erasement. The usual calm and tranquility of the Cloud Recesses were disturbed by a large crowd of different clothed disciples as they made their way up the stairs. Lan Wangji’s eyes moved to the purple of the Yunmeng Jiang Sect on their own, and he found himself inspecting their faces closely as if he were looking for someone specific. His brows furrowed slightly when he didn’t find what he was looking for. Lan Wangji was too smart to not realize what this meant. His fated person was a Yunmeng Jiang Sect disciple, ~~
"It’s Emperor’s Smile!" He suddenly heard a bright voice in his mind say. His heart skipped a beat as he abruptly turned around, but there was no one who looked like they had tried to talk to him. Still, the voice continued: "I’ll give you a jar if you pretend you didn’t see me!" Lan Wangji’s heart clenched. ’—, I would give anything to see you again.’ In the end, he bought three jars of Emperor’s Smile and hid them in his room. 😭😭

Yiling Siblings vs Yunmeng Siblings
The winner? Obviously...
Warnings: Some curse words. I have tagged this anti Jc, and Anti Jyl, and anti jiang in general If you like this then feel free to read and if not I will question your priorities and why are you looking for these types of metas when you stan the jiangs. Also I was lazy to look for factual references in the translations and I was busy with studying so not a lot of complete arguments or thought. So yeah comment if I've got some facts wrong or if you can link to me proper evidence. I wrote this for pleasure so please keep unconstructive or mean comments to yourself. I've been wanting to get this of my chest and out there.
Now!
.
Let's talk about WWX two sets of siblings again!
About how Yiling Siblings are superior in every way and how Yunmeng Siblings are overrated and not as fluffy as all those screenshotted moments people like to claim as "proof" of their "pure" sibling bonds.
.
One, WQ compared to JYL
This is not a competition, but if it was WQ would take first place in the big sister of the year award and JYL would take 5th.
It's a little difficult to write this without sounding downright mean and dismissive to JYL, but compared to WQ her acts as a big sister pale in comparison. Don't get me wrong both of them grew up in toxic environments WQ lived under fear and filial duty to a power hungry tyrant and his baby bro more or less a hostage along with the rest of her branch(depends on the adaptation). While JYL lived under a (verbally abusive) mother, who physically abuses the one you consider a brother, and a passive father. And they endured to raise their brothers mostly with absent parental figures.
.
In terms of parenting their blood brother, WN and JWY couldn't be more opposite than China and Argentina.
.
“You’re born with a smiling face. Always smiling, never mind too much about sorrowful things, no matter how worse the situation you’re in, you can always be happy.“ CQL Yanli.
.
This can describe WWX's surface traits but there is more to him than being able to carry burden with a smile. It's admirable to face the world with optimism but that doesn't mean you should suppress the things hurt you or that you should endure it or that it is okay to experience such things
(btw this is one of the top lines in cql that I hate with a passion and not just because it was said by a Jiang)(also where else did this line come from again? If this was only found in the cql if so nevermind but I can def see JYL saying this type of things too)
.
WQ can see as clear as day when WY is hurting and scolds and pesters him to take better care of himself and lets him know that she will be there to help.
.
Towards WWX, their isn't much to say about JYL, we can't fault her for her limitations in the mess of dynamics that is her family. She tries to be kind and treats WY like she would her brother. The only reasons she's pretty high up in WWX's heart is because he was young and impressionable when he joined Yunmeng Jiang. A small act of kindness in a toxic environment will seem so much more in terms of significance to him. Interactions with JYL are more playful than anything substantial. They are playing the act of the clingy little brother and the doting older sister.
.
WQ brings realistic thorough thoughts for WY's well-being. She scolds him to take care of his health and doesn't praise him but at the end of the day even if WY hides his hurts with poor bandages WQ will rip off those bandages and rewrap them more expertly and make him drink potent remedies.
.
What is soup compared to effective medicines when you are hurting(physically and emotionally that is)?
.
PS. Don't hate on me for my horrible metaphors.
.
Two, WN compared to JWY
To start off let's begin with the POV of side characters or extra or whatever gossip mongering people there are in the MDZS universe.
WN was the Ghost General, the right-hand man to Yiling Laozu WWX.
While to JWY, WWX was supposed to be his right-hand man and subordinate.
.
Already there's a glaring difference.
WN would accept LWJ as a good partner for WY. And as long as WY is happy and cares for that is all he asks.
.
JWY didn't last one minute before sneering in disgust at LWJ and WWX's relationship after stalking them through Lotus Pier. Why do people need to ask why he is a homophobe?
Also I find myself insulted to even compare WN to JWY.
Between a backstabber and the most loyal friend even beyond death how could that compare.
Too many times has JWY turned his back and averted his eyes and directly harmed WWX .
While WN has stayed through thick and thin with WWX.
.
Three, WN compared to JYL
Okay! The quiet supportive sibling comparison.
Yeah there is no comparing. Hands down WN is the winner. The man committed treason for WY. While JYL couldn't even drag an apology out of JZXun's fat mouth.
.
Four, WQ compared to JWY
Are people comparing WQ strictness to JWY's so-called tsundere personality? Newsflash tsunderes don't actively gut their loved ones and declare them the enemy of the world.
.
Five, the DafanWen Family.
Let's be real the Wen Remnants were the probably the nicest most normal family there is in MDZS who just got roped in to suffering under the Cultivation World's politicking, and wars and aftermath of wars, just the entire Cultivation World bullsh** shebang. In fact, they were probably the most resilient and family oriented which was actually the foundation of their ancestor Wen Mao's teachings. Compared to the tally of all the broken complicated family relationships we have by the end of the book.
.
Six, the Jiang Family and all their general sh**
Its mostly in my How I became Anti JC and Anti Jiang in General.
Check it out for more reasons to say that this family is the byproduct of a trainwreck and a plane crash on a stormy day.
.
Seven, WWX's true family in the end.
I count 3 main family members of WWX's and a lot of adopted ducklings. Those would be: his husband, LWJ(obviously), his little radish son, and his best friend/brother in all but blood who stood by him through some of his most harrowing moments, and that is
.
.
JC
.
.
Just kidding 😂 it's Wen Ning who else deserves that honored spot?
.
Let's not forget our favorite Baby Lan, Jingyi, and our romantic Ouyang Zizhen, and our real tsundere Jin Ling (ok he might have stabbed WWX too but at least he looked to regret it and didn't mean to hurt him. I headcanon a post-canon apology and heart-to-heart between JL and WWX).
.
Eight WWX's matching personalities with WQ and WN.
Righteous, Protective, Talented, Mold breakers.
Righteous, while we know WY is the moral compass of the story, to see wrong and seek to do what's right despite society's disapproval, WQ and WN are surprisingly the same. WN saved WWX and JWY because WWX was kind and supportive to him and for nothing else in return and that it was the right thing to do and he knows that WC and the rest of the rotten side of his family is doing wrong. WQ may have helped hide them to protect WN from the consequences of his actions but she didn't have to heal them diligently, and shelter them. She could have sent them off immediately with supplies especially after JWY 🤬 hurt her precious brother and spat vitriol everywhere he went.
.
All three of them are super protective, and super loyal to their family. (WY considered the Wens his family and absolutely despaired when they left to be executed (aftermath of this is the Bloodbath of Nightless City), WN and WQ sacrificing themselves to the Jins for the rest of their family and WY)
All three of them were geniuses in their own right. WY as a genius inventor(he invented his own path in 3 measly months!), prodigious cultivator (late start became ahead of everyone). WQ, genius doctor recognized by WRH. And WN, recognized by WY as a prodigy in archery.
They were the mold breakers of their current society but mostly WY and WQ. WY for mastering and understanding resentful energy and adapting his knowledge to Cultivation. And WQ, for conceiving the idea of a Golden Core Transfer. They were the definition of heretics to everyone but that's what made them amazing and unfortunately feared.
.
I don't see any mentions of JWY being righteous(definitely not), nor talented, JYL too she was always average and never done anything notable that is to be mentioned besides the praise that comes from WWX and JWY.
.
Lastly this is just an aesthetic preference but Wen Qing, Wei Ying, and Wen Ning rhyme in pinyin, even if their Chinese definitions are different. You know how we like to shortcut MDZS characters to their name initials like WWX or LWJ.
Guess what! Their intials are still similar you could write the Wen adopting WWX or adopting his name and there initials would remain the same! So I could comment WQ and WN somewhere but in my heart they are Wei instead of Wen. The three were meant to be siblings! MXTX probably planned this too.
Although fate has WWX grieving both older sisters in his first life.
.
Guess which little brother is still more than welcome in WWX's second life?
I'll give you a hint: It's not JC.

four letters: H-A-T-E (Wei Wuxian's POV), by Edith343redwood
What if the first night they met was rewritten?
Four letters. One word.

They say words hold power, but what can words do?
If a word could be rewritten into a story, what would it be?
Possible works 1 - Ghost Child, by Hauntcats
Wei Ying returns to the day Jiang Fengmian found him and decides to do something different.
None of these are very Jiang Cheng friendly. I'm not even sure if they are Lan friendly. At least one of them is nicer to Jiang Yanli.

The Best Laid Plans, by Admiranda, Rynne (11th in a series)
After a long day traveling, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian just want to have a bath together. Those simple intentions don't last -- and neither does the bathtub.
and we can be anything, by Imatableclock (2nd in a series)
"You’re so good at this, Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying says, panting.
From the look on Lan Zhan’s face, she probably considers it an offence that Wei Ying is still speaking. Wei Ying is very happy to learn this about Lan Zhan.

Two lesbians in one apartment, and their firsts.
Microphones and Camera Reels, by UseMyMuse
Wei Ying and Lan Wangji have been happily married for five years, their careers are at an all time high, and they really couldn't be happier. Purely by chance, the public is unaware of their relationship, and Lan Zhan's fans are severely misjudging his horny glare for hate and they decide to ban together to get rid of the thorn in their favorite star's side.

Wei Wuxian had already gone cold.
The Moon Reflected Upon Two Springs, by Rubberduckieassassin (🔒)

I'd Give You The Moon, by Teadrenched
Wei Wuxian is very smart, but you wouldn't think that if you saw him now, lost alone in the woods at night and being choked by a witch. Despite his predicament, all Wei Wuxian can think about is how pretty the witch looked, and that he didn't know boys were allowed to wear dresses (but after seeing Lan Wangji, definitely thinks more should)

Wei Ying finds fem witch Lan Zhan in the woods and goes to bother him whenever Madame Yu has been a bit too much
Friday Nights, by Autumn_leaf101
“A-Cheng there is someone I would like you to meet with this Friday. He is the successor to Lan Academies. I’ve spoken with his uncle and we shall see if you both are suitable for each other.” Said Yu-Jiang ZiYuan, with a tone of clarity and finality.
“Yes A-Niang” Having expected this he felt relieved to get it over with.
“The Lan Academies huh? The heirs are quite the handsome duo.” A cheeky Cangse Sanren pointed out. “Isn’t the younger, the pouty one you’re always talking about A-Xian?! Oh, and the older, he has the sweetest smile, doesn’t he?” She continued an excited rant, met with an equally excited Wei Wuxian.
As the conversation steered to the rumours of Jiang Cheng’s potential betrothed, he wanted to know what was being said but no amount of effort could help him concentrate. His only focus; convincing himself that a lifetime of neglect and passive-aggressive companionship wouldn’t be too bad, or maybe, just maybe he could love and be loved the way a husband and wife are meant to.
wing bones touching, by ShanaStoryteller
Mo Xuanyu is the hastily legitimized daughter of Jin Guangshan.
Wei Wuxian wakes up in her body the day before her wedding.
Explicit:
the long way back home, by Misila (🔒)
Wei Ying always knew he was the single discordant note in the Jiang household. That was why, after graduating from university, he didn’t return home. With him gone, Yu Ziyuan wouldn’t have anyone to compare her son to, and Jiang Fengmian wouldn’t have to keep avoiding his own family to prevent further conflict.
…Right?
(Seven years later, married to the man of his life and with a four year-old son, Wei Ying returns to his hometown and tries to reconnect with his siblings and befriend his nephew; but, most of all, he struggles to figure out what’s wrong with his brother and how to help him, despite Jiang Cheng not wanting to have anything to do with him anymore.)
Lupine, by Anonymous
It’s never been an option before—to see Wei Ying after that dream. Typically, Lan Wangji jolts awake in bed, alone with his quaking limbs, and resigns himself to reading or meditating until morning.
But here in Qinghe, dawn is far away, and Wei Ying’s room is so, so close.
The Second Hand Unwinds, by trulywicked (🔒)
Sent back in time without his husband after a night hunt gone wrong, Lan Wangji is determined to ensure that Wei Wuxian’s safety and in the process hopefully mitigate, if not prevent, the war.
Through marriage among other things.
Heart of the Beast, by WaitForTheSnitch
“Wei Ying?” Nie Mingjue prompted him gently. “Where are your parents?”
“They went on a night hunt,” Wei Ying said, a bit evasively.
“Your parents are cultivators?” Da-ge asked in surprise. “Did they leave you here while they hunted? When did they go on their night hunt?”
“Four summers ago,” Wei Ying said a bit uncomfortable.
“Four summers ago,” Nie Mingjue repeated. “What are your parents’ names?”
“My mama is Cangse Sanren and my baba is Wei Changze,” Wei Ying told him, and recognition registered in Nie Mingjue’s eyes.
“Wei Ying,” Nie Mingjue said, sounding a bit regretful, “Your parents aren’t coming back.”
Or, Nie Mingjue and Nie Huaisang run into Wei Ying while in Yiling and decide to bring him home. And it changes everything.
Mature:
Dreams of Paradise, by Hauntcats
This on begins during the siege of the Burial Mound. Wei Ying is trying to destroy or nullify the tiger seal before anyone else can get it. The results don’t work out quite how he thought they would. His essence is trapped in between time where he witnesses different scenes of the lives of those he cares about. (The 13? 16? Years when he was dead.)
Then he wakes up in a place he didn't expect.
Once again, not Jiang friendly. If you don't like that, please, don't read.
Tragedy That Befall Upon Us, by xoxoholic
"Hey! What's this?" Jin Ling yelled, pointing at the glowing, black and red orb. Jiang Wanyin marched over to Jin Ling, but the young Jin sect leader had already touched the orb.
"Jin Ling!" Jiang Wanyin yelled in anger. If his golden core was not sealed, then Zidian would be cackling furiously.
"..Oops?" Jin Ling sheepishly smiled as he hid behind his friends. Lan Jingyi laughed at Jin Lings predicament while Lan Sizhui sighed. Ouyang Zizhen laughed with Lan Jingyi in amusement before he was hit in the back of his head by his father.
UNDER EDITING
【银 劍 探 心】| Silver Jian Seeking Hearts, by stiltonbasket
“A ghost bridegroom?” Wei Wuxian asks, when he receives his latest night-hunting assignment from Uncle Jiang. “Have women been going missing?”
If brides have been going missing, this is the first that Wei Wuxian is hearing about it; which is strange, because the systematic kidnapping of brides should have quickly been recognized as spirits’ work and reported as such to the nearest cultivation sect as soon as possible.
“Three women and ten men have gone missing so far,” his uncle tells him. “Jinshan town is out of our jurisdiction, and the records say there hasn’t been a hunt in the area since before my grandfather’s time. But no one from Jinshan thought to report the disappearances until today, so the victims must be long dead by now.”
Four hundred years after the Sunshot Campaign, a reincarnated Wei Wuxian dresses himself in wedding red to defeat the ghost of a bridegroom.
Deep within the forests of Jinshan Mountain, the mourning calamity Yin Jian Tan Xin waits to marry his beloved.
What If..... Jiang Cheng Understood?, by ToxicAngel13
It didn't take a genius to realize just what had happened in the time that Wei Wuxian was gone. Not with that damn ribbon on his wrist and Jiang Cheng was not going to let his brother be taken advantage of!
Or a tale in which one insight sparks a world of change.

ep16 (part 2):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh cinematically tragic lost handhold....
Tumblr media
I've seen so many gifsets of wwx in this scene and that's because as terrible as everything is he has genuinely never looked better. very handsome. sorry about the tragedies
Tumblr media
aw man there's jyl OH SHE HAS PEARLS SEWN INTO HER ROBE I wonder if the jiangs trade with sects that live along the ocean. do they have ocean access? I can't remember. maybe they're freshwater pearls
Tumblr media
when jyl asks what happened and all wwx can do is stand there crying. and jc is also crying. oof
Tumblr media
why did she tell wwx to do this...did she think jc couldn't?
Tumblr media
a triangle of misery...
Tumblr media
there's a really long meta post about the cinematography for this and I don't remember all of it but it's like. jyl and jc are in the foreground so their grief is being paid attention to, but wwx is in the back and you can't even see his face. his grief is ignored, even though he's the central figure. he's also taking on the task of a servant and neither jyl nor jc stop him
this is def a most extreme case (jc and jyl are SUPER traumatized and I'm not even blaming them for this), and it's not representative of all their interactions with wwx, but it gets me thinking. wwx talks about lwj being his equal bc he's good at things in the way that wwx is, but you can also view it like, with lwj wwx is completely free of the tangle of debts and obligations he has with the jiangs, and they look after each other , purely because they care about each other rather, than that onus always being on wwx. jyl does take care of him, and jc does too sometimes, but wwx must do the same for the other two and cannot truly fight back in a meaningful way if he's being mistreated.
obviously this setup above would never happen with lwj bc lwj doesn't see wwx as a servant or someone bound to him at all. he may see other people as servants, but he's always insistent that wwx is taken care of and he wouldn't accept wwx acting this way to him. which is really good! like I feel that ppl who are ride-or-die for yunmeng sibs and ignore lwj don't appreciate how freeing being with lwj is for wwx and how happy he is to have a relationship that's his own and on his own terms. ah, I miss him
Tumblr media
jyl getting ill so easily, I think she has an autoimmune disorder. I've seen her hced as having celiac's and having chronic joint pain, and I think either an autoimmune disease or chronic fatigue makes mot sense. and for some conditions, both of those symptoms are seen so it's not a stretch. fibromyalgia, for one
Tumblr media Tumblr media
uh oh. last look before the end.
Tumblr media
LIFE-ALTERING MOMENT. this scene is so well done. the dread I feel every single time. it's incredible.
Tumblr media
literally who is that
Tumblr media
flashforward to the scene in 18(?) where jc makes the same promise to jyl about wwx. I feel ill
Tumblr media
something really messed up is how often one of the kids will be like 'we'll go together, right"? this past few episodes. they really are clinging to each other like buoys in a storm
Tumblr media
this happened when wwx was running out of BM after waking up from wen qing's needle. he runs and falls over :(
Tumblr media
oh jeez I bet they're all dead by the end of this huh
Tumblr media
MEAN TO WEN NING. he lied kind of awkwardly but it WAS effective. a nice thing about being known for being weak and socially awkward is that nobody suspects you when you're being suspicious
Tumblr media
I wonder what happened to those women too. I assume they're wens, unless they were hired by wens. the clan is fucking huge idk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HE KNEW. and he knew it could have been lethal, I assume, unless he detected the exact poison used. and he somehow knew it was for the bodies of the jiang parents, huh
next episode will also be pretty rough but sunshot/postsunshot are among my favorite arcs so I am HYPED
also we'll finally see lwj again next ep. I think. I miss him. I wonder how many eps jc is missing from. surely several in a row, esp postres. yi city for sure. he's been in every one so far. now I'm curious

The Untamed has only made me cry twice, but dear god the times it did--
I've gotten close to sobbing a lot (like with jyl, that one killed me. but still didn't cry). But the two times I actually did wind up crying was with Jiang Cheng after their parents died and with Jin Ling on the pier when he breaks down.
maybe it's the repressed childhood trauma but those two moments remind me of why I love this series so freaking much.
Saving your dashboards: analysis under cut
With JC, specifically, it was after he fights wwx in the field -- when he collapses in the grass and starts sobbing and screaming "I want my mom, I want my dad, I want my people/friends/clan..." because in that moment, after he's just blamed wei wuxian for everything that's happened, wearing zidian on his wrist, jiang yanli waiting for them unaware of what's just passed. After that, he just breaks down and becomes a little kid again. He's lost so much, doesn't know if he'll ever get to go back home. He watched his mother beat wwx, watched their father leave them behind, feeling more alone than ever despite still having his siblings by his side because he was supposed to be able to protect them all. He's supposed to be the future clan sect leader, how can he not even hold his own ground? His own home? He's broken and confused bc now it all depends on him and he's never been good enough for all this. "cultivation is his life," but when you have a brother like the great future Yiling Patriarch... he just wants his family all together again, calling out for his parents like a child waking up from a nightmare in the dark, trying to regain their surroundings.
Then with Jin Ling, he's on the pier heading to Yunmeng and he should be okay, he should be fine because he has his uncles still -- he does, he does. He won't admit anything about jin guangyao yet. But... now he has another uncle? The one who named him, never got to meet him, killed his dad and his mother and hundreds of others in his family and the other clan sects-- but Oh god, here's The Ghost General who killed his dad and he's talking to Lan Suzhui and he's getting so close. Jin Ling doesn't have friends, but LSZ has always been kind; he backed him up in the Burial Mounds, always ready to see all sides of things, maybe the only one left who would understand if Jin Ling could admit all the turmoil in his mind, the feelings he refuses to address towards the people he's been raised to hate -- people that could've been his family. But Wen Ning tries to touch LSZ and no, no no no not again, I can't do this again-- and he tries to draw his father's sword because even if he will never know that peacock, jl knows he's always protecting him. because it's too much to think about his mother protecting him through the yiling patriarch. But then the other juniors gang up against him to protect LSZ bc he just pushed him and oh god he just pushed him, he was supposed to protect him and now the Yiling Patriarch is here and he's looking at LSZ like that, like how he should look at jin ling but he can't because they're not family, not anymore. And Wen Ning calls him Jin Roulan and no, don't say that name, don't remind me but Wei Wuxian looks back at him and calls to him, warns him but doesn't glare or scream or hurt him. He just tells him to put the sword away and no no no this is all I have left of him, please don't so he holds the sword in its sheath and sobs. He collapses on the pier and cries, wailing without humiliation because all he can think about it how everyone must hate me for things to be this way bc he's just a kid that grew up without parents. Just a kid with Jin Guangyao as his father's memory and Jiang Cheng as his mother's (which, really doesn't do either of them justice no matter how much jc and even jgy might try, bc they can never be their siblings). Because he pushes everyone away. Because he doesn't dare get close to anyone else just to lose them again. Because his uncle might be the cause of all this suffering. Because his other uncle -- that he's never claimed -- was supposed to be behind all this, all sixteen years of his life spent hating him. Because his other uncle is hurt and crass and desperate to protect him but can never really give him what jiang yanli would have. But he's all jin ling has left, so he runs to him and away from all the others even if it burns him.
TLDR: Idk, just really sobbed at those spots where they both just act so much like little kids because Jiang Cheng just lost his childhood while Jin Ling never got to have one.

So I want to suffer bc an AU in which JC died instead of JYL the day everything went wrong :) I’ve had this AU stuck on my head for awhile but I never let myself think too much about it bc it hurts but I want to hear your hc :p
1. Jiang Yanli kneels with her brother’s body in her lap and has to watch as her other brother finally succumbs to all that he did and what happened and has to watch him fling himself off a cliff.
2. When she gets back to Jinlintai she demands to see Jin Ling and then she spends the better part of a month grieving everyone she lost. She’s very lucky that despite everything she has support in this Sect.
3. One month is enough, she decides almost out of the blue and bundles up Jin Ling before she very firmly tells Madam Jin that she’ll be going back to Lotus Pier. When she arrives there, a small brawl between the smaller Sects has already started, because they all want to take over Lotus Pier.
4. Jiang Yanli reminds them very gently that it’s her family that ruled and with her back now, it’s still her family that rules. The other Sect Leaders are not impressed, but Lotus Pier stands behind Jiang Yanli, so they can’t really do anything. For now.
5. Jiang Yanli is known as a gentle and just person. She’s also known for the steel beneath her cutting words, and the easy flick of a wrist, accompanied by a sparkling purple.
6. She rebuilds Lotus Pier. She takes in disciples. She knows her strength and cultivation is not it, but she is a good judge of character and there is no shortage of people who want to teach at Lotus Pier. She builds a strong Sect.
(7. There are eight days in the year (five birthdays and three death days) where she is absolutely unavailable for everyone. Those are the days she spends breaking apart.)

4. okay I didn't plan to send one but is about 2 to 3 months looking for that fic and I can't find it so I gave in to ask for help and this is my last hope, The fic was one at the time of cloud recess, I remember that Lan Wangji was more aware and there was a marriage proposal, Wei Wuxian then was about to reject it since he considered never getting married to dedicate fully to Lotus Pier, the Jiangs were not happy that he would think like that and made him explore more of himself before agreeing. @jackfantasy1412

Hi, help please? Read this and then couldn't find it again... WWX goes to a pet store (he possibly just moved to a new town?) and finds a sick snake and takes it home. I think he puts it in an aquarium and he takes it w/ him when he leaves the house. It's not a snake, of course, but LWJ in a small dragon form. (I think he runs into LXC at the store in this story who recognizes his brother.) I've tried searching for it on AO3 w/ no luck. @ceriat

14. Hi! The work you do is very appreciated, thank you so much! If possible, there's a fic I'm looking for, for whenever you can fit this into a fic finder post! I'm fairly sure it was post-canon, and Wei Wuxian was living in Cloud Recesses, and when someone with a grudge against him attacked it with demonic dogs, he locked the juniors in the library and took the fight elsewhere to protect Cloud Recesses. I think there may have been something about reliving bad memories or something similar? I remember the Lans as well as Jiang Cheng and I think Jin Ling went looking for him. I found a similar fic while looking for it, but it was a single chapter WIP, while I'm pretty sure the fic I'm looking for had multiple chapters up. That's all I'm fairly confident about remembering, sorry.

For lack of a better term.) of sorts, and LWJ's left in the Burial Mounds with the Wen Remnants (+ others?). Before WWX left, though, everyone was eating dinner, and LWJ noticed that someone who recently came up to the Burial Mounds was lurking in the back. I think it turned out to be Xue Yang? They took A-Qing hostage (Or it could have been another kid; I'm not sure.) But XY and LWJ fight. LWJ ends up majorly injured after he kills XY. LWJ sets off a talisman/signal flare that would catch WWX's attention--which WWX gave him sometime before this ordeal. And I think this next part happens not long after WWX and WQ return: WWX and WQ said that they were suspicious of LWJ at first, so when they saw the talisman/signal flare, they almost didn't come back.

JC’s deeply rooted resentment of WWX, JFM’s parenting, and the inevitability of the falling out of the ‘Yunmeng bros’.
In discussion of the breakdown of JC and WWX’s relationship, their falling out is often regarded as a mutual failing on both sides to properly communicate and maintain their relationship. I’m making the case here that their falling out was a foregone conclusion from the start, and in no part due to the actions of Wei Wuxian.
This is because YZY has instilled in JC the idea that JFM dislikes him, something he believes before WWX arrives in Lotus Pier, JC already feels inferior, thus as soon as potential competition for JFM’s attention comes along in the form of WWX, JC resents him, believes JFM prefers him, and looks for reasons to justify this.
Summarising their very first interactions - from chapter 71 - WWX arrives at LP, sees JC with his puppies and is so terrified that he refuses to come down from JFM’s arms the entire day. The second day, JFM gives JC’s puppies away.
Now, I would like to think that no one seriously believes that this is an act of favouritism, but I have seen this case being made so I just want to make clear that WWX is obviously traumatised by his previous interactions with dogs. After trying for a whole day to comfort WWX, with no success, JFM does not exactly have any other choice than to give the puppies away, WWX cannot be expected to live in constant terror in the place that is supposed to be his home.
Consequently, ‘This angered Jiang Cheng so much that he threw a big tantrum. No matter how much Jiang FengMian comforted him gently, telling him that they should ‘be good friends’, he refused to talk to Wei WuXian.’
JC’s reaction is fairly understandable for an 8 year old. JFM comforts JC, and does not treat him callously or dismiss him, however it takes several days until JC will even talk to WWX.
When JC does start to warm up to him, JFM thinks it’d be a good idea for them to have a sleepover, JC is on the ‘verge of agreeing’ to this, which JFM is overjoyed by - so much so that he picks WWX up.
This is not an example of favouritism, JFM doesn't repeatedly give affection to WWX and not JC, he holds him twice - the first instance being purely because WWX was too terrified to leave his arms, the second being this one. These are the only two times where JFM is described as being affectionate towards WWX, JC is still in the lead on this count. But JC interprets this as JFM preferring WWX.
This results in the JC shutting WWX out at night.
At that time, Wei WuXian didn’t know what Jiang Cheng was mad about at all. After a pause, he replied, “I didn’t steal anything. It’s Uncle Jiang who told me to sleep with you.”
Hearing that he was still bringing up his father, almost as if he was purposely showing off, Jiang Cheng’s eyes reddened as he yelled, “Go away! If I see you again, I’ll call a bunch of dogs to bite you!”
This is the important part - JC sees WWX in the worst possible light, and rarely thinks of WWX as a person outside of how he directly impacts JC - he concludes that WWX is purposefully antagonising him, this is a trend that continues well into adulthood.
Then, when WWX flees LP after JC threatens him with dogs, JYL tells JC to find people to help search for him. However,
‘If any other disciple or servant learned about this and told Jiang FengMian, after Jiang FengMian knew how he threw Wei WuXian’s sheets out and made him hurt his leg, Jiang FengMian would definitely dislike him even more. This was also why he only dared chase after them alone and didn’t get anyone else.’
JC has obviously behaved wrongly here, and JFM would be right to scold him for it, but JC interprets this as JFM disliking him. We haven’t seen anything to suggest that JFM actually dislikes JC, he always treats him quite gently, actually. But JC is already at the conclusion that JFM dislikes him, and twists events to suit this - if his dad scolds him for misbehaving, it’s because he dislikes him. This pattern repeats after the Xuanwu Cave arc too.
This is because Madam Yu has ingrained into him the idea that JFM dislikes him, because he’s her son. This has nothing to do with WWX - because both her and JC already believe that JFM dislikes JC prior to WWX’s arrival -  she only sees him as additional fuel to use.
The only other person who mentions JFM supposedly treating WWX better than JC is JZX. I’m sure it's a coincidence that he’s the son of YZY’s best friend.
‘“Doesn’t he treat you better than treating his own child or something?”’
Note the ‘or something’, - JZX doesn’t seem to know this with certainty - he’s repeating what others have said, despite having visited Lotus Pier several times (as stated in ch.69), JZX hasn’t seen evidence for himself that JFM prefers WWX.
‘“Maybe I should’ve let you hit him, while I stand aside and watch. This way, Uncle Jiang might not need to come. Oh well, I really couldn’t hold back!”’
We know that WWX doesn’t see JFM as favouring him - so what does he mean by this? Well, LQR has had it out for WWX from the moment they met, and has already sent a letter to JFM complaining of his behaviour - at this point WWX doesn’t know that this results in them breaking the JZX/JYL engagement either, so he’s probably purely thinking that LQR summoned JFM to CR to discuss WWX’s repeated offenses. JC hasn’t done anything to invoke LQR’s ire (or rather, he’s gotten away with everything he has done), so WWX thinks that if JC fought JZX, it would not have been treated so seriously, compared to WWX, who has repeatedly misbehaved.
Contrary to fanon interpretation, WWX is not oblivious to other people’s feelings, he’s very empathetic, and additionally understands JC very well. He doesn’t see how JC is feeling here, because JC’s feelings are just so illogical...
‘Although it was only Wei WuXian’s casual words, he held mixed feelings, because he knew that this wasn’t a lie.
Jiang FengMian had never hurried to another sect in one day for anything related to him, no matter if the issue was good or bad, large or small.
Never.’
Once again, JC’s at the conclusion that JFM dislikes him, he twists events to support this. He’s looking at this scenario very strangely - JFM didn’t rush to CR because he likes WWX, he was called there by LQR, to discuss JYL’s engagement with JZX. Secondly, we’re never given any examples of scenarios where JC does anything to warrant JFM rushing over. As far as we know, they never even stay with other sects. Knowing JC’s personality, his dislike of doing anything to rock the boat, it’s extremely unlikely that he’s ever done anything to warrant JFM rushing over like this. Moreover, it’s a bizarre thing to be jealous of, WWX is in trouble, he’s not on the receiving end of positive attention from JFM.
JC’s flawed reasoning is once again illustrated after the Xuanwu Cave arc...
‘Jiang Cheng’s expression was complicated after he had finished listening.’
This is Jiang Cheng’s reaction after WWX credits LWJ with killing the tortoise of slaughter - this is before JFM congratulates him. Before JFM says anything, JC is purely resentful about WWX having done something heroic, more so, resentful that WWX is willingly to let LWJ take most of the credit - he’s annoyed about this, most likely feeling that WWX is rubbing in his face that he doesn’t need the recognition that JC so desperately craves.
‘Jiang FengMian nodded and said, “You did well.”
Killing a giant 400-year-old beast at only 17 was way beyond what one would call ‘doing well.’’
JFM knows about JC’s… issues, he knows how he’ll react to WWX’s receiving recognition, he likely purposefully downplays his praise to avoid upsetting him. (Who’s really being favouritised? Lol)
But, even to this, JC reacts badly, he lashes out at WWX, once more interpreting him in the worst possible way.
‘Jiang Cheng hissed, “Too fucking bad, then. You shouldn’t have been so damn stubborn and you shouldn’t have cared so damn much about such a trivial thing. If you’d never moved in the first place –”’
JC’s response is to basically tell him the entire incident was his fault. Which is objectively not true - WWX only gets involved in the conflict after it has already started, and then he acts deliberately to try to end it, rather than impulsively fighting. He also starts to say that WWX should have left their allies - LWJ and JZX - to die. This is where JFM cuts him off, and tells him it’s not appropriate to say such things - he’s not scolding him harshly, JC is not being unfairly treated here, he’s done wrong, and JFM is trying to teach him why, you know, parenting. But JC, and YZY, take this to mean JFM dislikes JC.
JFM tries to teach JC about the Jiang sect’s motto once more - this is of course, not just about the motto, but about the values that JFM wants to instill in him, as a parent.
This is where Madam Yu arrives.
“Yes, he doesn’t understand, but what does it matter, as long as Wei Ying understands?!”
Of course, what she says is nonsensical, it does matter to JFM that JC understands the motto, that’s why he’s trying to teach him. If he did not care, he would have given in already.
This is further supported...
‘Jiang Cheng’s appearance and temperament all resembled his mother’s. Jiang FengMian guided him from childhood, but no matter how much he tried, he still couldn’t change his son’s nature. As such, it always seemed like he disliked his son.’
JFM has never been dismissive of JC just because he’s YZY’s son, he’s always tried to teach him, but JC always had his mother’s nature - YZY’s nature being harsh, standoffish, foul tempered, with no care for others - Note that is says it ‘seems’ like he dislikes his son, solely because he’s trying to teach him to be a better person. He has good reason for doing so - as a kid, JC never had friends, he doesn’t seem to as an adult either, he only has Jin Ling, whom he pushes away with his foul temper. JFM was just trying to raise JC to being an even-tempered person, capable of functioning in society, which is kind of what parents are supposed to do. But once more, this is taken as dislike.
Note that during JC’s outburst, every single thing JC claims about what JFM thinks of him, he’s parroting what YZY has said, none of these points have any actual evidence.
The next point to consider is how JC blames WWX for the fall of LP, despite it objectively not being his fault - JC knows this too.
‘In his heart, Jiang Cheng knew clearly that back in the cave of the Xuanwu of Slaughter at Dusk-Creek Mountain, even if Wei WuXian hadn’t saved Lan WangJi, the Wen Sect would have found some reason to come over sooner or later’
Even if WWX’s actions did prompt the Wens to act sooner than they otherwise might have - coming sooner or later would have made no difference at all because YZY outright stated she had no intention of preparing for an attack, even after WWX suggests they should, and JFM was still going to the Wens asking for their swords back - they were still uselessly trying to suck up to the Wens, thinking it would save them.
Despite knowing deep down that WWX was not to blame - he still uses it to fuel his resentment of WWX, because the resentment was there from the beginning, the only uncertainty is the means he uses to justify it.
During the ancestral hall confrontation - he uses this excuse again.
‘Jiang Cheng responded contemptuously, “You really are forgetful. What’s called a shameful person? Let me remind you. Just because you decided to be a hero and save this Second Young Master Lan, the entire Lotus Pier including my father and mother was buried. If this wasn’t enough, after the first time, you still want a second time, even wanting to save Wen-dogs and implicating my sister and her husband, how noble of you. Even nobler, you are so magnanimous to bring these two to Lotus Pier. Allowing the Wen-dog to stand at the front of my gates and letting Second Young Master Lan offer joss sticks, purely trying to antagonize me.’
Obviously, WWX did none of these things to antagonise JC, in fact he was going through a complex emotional journey of realising that he has feelings for LWJ, and that LWJ probably has feelings for him too, he doesn’t go to the ancestral shrine to mess around - he’s ‘introducing’ LWJ to JFM, YZY, and JYL, because he’s thinking about marrying him.
The problem is, JC never really sees WWX as a person, WWX has always been more of a concept - someone to compare himself to, the reason his father doesn’t like him, the reason his mother uses to berate him. It doesn’t occur to JC that WWX is a person outside of what he is to JC, and he is therefore incapable of empathising with what WWX might be feeling right now, instead the only possible conclusion is that he’s antagonising JC.
He follows the same line of thinking when WWX defects with the Wens. JC knows what he and WWX owe them, in fact JC owes them, far, far more than what WWX does - it was his parents whose bodies Wen Ning retrieved, and it was him who WN had to rescue from LP. But JC thinks, he can get away with not paying this debt, so why should he? JC is selfish, he doesn’t understand why WWX would want to help others when he doesn’t have to, so JC concludes, this is WWX showing off, ‘playing the hero’.
Because from the moment they met, JC has never tried to know WWX for who he is, whatever WWX does, JC interprets in a negative light - when WWX tries to get LWJ’s attention, (despite it being painstakingly obvious that WWX has a crush on him) JC concludes that WWX is messing around foolishly, without reason (parroting the untrue things YZY says about WWX always seeking trouble). When WWX wants to help people, he’s playing the hero, one upping JC. JC only ever thinks of WWX in relation to himself - when WWX disappears for three months, JC’s immediate complaint is that WWX kept him waiting, that he’s put JC out by making him search for him. You could argue that JC was just worried about WWX, and not able to express it - and on some level that’s true. But there’s a very intentional contrast between how LWJ and JC react to WWX’s return - LWJ is worried about WWX, about how his cultivation method is affecting him, moreover, WWX is very clearly not himself. JC, however, does not care for that - he only sees WWX, and modao, as a tool for killing Wens.
It takes almost nothing for JGS to manipulate JC into turning against WWX in ch.73 - he readily believes every negative thing JGS says about WWX, despite being called out directly for lying by LWJ. JGS talks as if he is a servant who has forgotten his place, unlike JYL, JC does not defend him. He refuses to speak up for him - he claims that no one will - yet LWJ and MianMian did. JC didn’t turn on WWX because it was impossible for him to speak up - he was living proof that WQ and WN did not support the Wen sect in the war, he drops him the moment he can because he’s resented him from the beginning.
Another interesting tidbit about JC just fundamentally not understanding who WWX is as a person, is that he only blames LWJ for the Xuanwu Cave incident - not JZX, despite him behaving no differently to how LWJ does. This is probably because he realises WWX’s fixation on LWJ, and supposes that this is the reason that WWX got involved in the conflict. But of course, WWX would have done something whether it was solely JZX, or just a random person.
Taking all this into account, it seems almost inevitable that WWX and JC would fall out eventually, because JC was, from the start, looking for reasons to dislike WWX, he turns against him at the first opportunity he got. For the ‘Yunmeng bros’ to have a healthy relationship, JC would simply have to fix his entire personality.
JC is unable to see WWX as a person, right up until the very end of the novel - when he recalls how he impulsively put himself at risk in order to save WWX. Finally, for the first time, JC is able to understand why WWX stood up for others in Xuanwu Cave, why he helped the Wens, because JC did the same thing, put himself on the line for WWX, probably the only time JC has ever acted so selflessly. And this is why he lets him go, he lets go of the things he blamed WWX for. For the first time, he is able to empathise with WWX, he understands that WWX was never ‘playing the hero’, seeking praise or recognition, he understands that WWX helps people purely because he feels in the moment that it’s the right thing to do. This is what enables him to finally let go of WWX.
I’m always a bit baffled when people claim mxtx never gave JC a happy ending, because this is his happy ending - him being able to realise that WWX never wronged him - when he finally lets go of this, he can live freely.

Lxc is 3 years younger than wwx&jyl and lwj is 3 years younger than him. Nmj is two years older than wwx&jyl and nhs is 8 years younger than him and the same age as lwj. (1/2)
Meng Yao is 2 years older than nhs and jzx is 2 years older than MY. I'm leaving the Wen Sibs out of this because otherwise WN would be the same age as wwx and WQ would be 4 years younger than him. Untamed
Nie Mingjue hated the Wen sect to the point of death and war, but he had always had trouble hating sad and gentle Wen Ning.
Wen Ning was technically his peer – there were only two years between them in age – and therefore capable of the same sorts of responsibilities and duties towards righteousness as Nie Mingjue, meaning that he ought to hate him as much as all the rest. But at the same time, Wen Ning was only part of the main branch family indirectly, a ward of Wen Ruohan; he was constantly suppressed and even tormented by Wen Chao, the eldest son of that family. If anything, it seemed almost as if he’d been brought into the family just to act as the family’s scapegoat, the inferior copy that was so hapless that he made that self-indulgent hedonist Wen Chao appear somewhat competent in contrast.
Nie Mingjue couldn’t imagine treating any of his own cousins that way.
He and Wen Chao were often compared, both being about the same age, and their young brothers were of similar age as well, both of them only fourteen; this juxtaposition made sure that every single person in the cultivation world talk of them in the same breath. Nie Mingjue always came out the better in the comparison, and Wen Xu the same for his, which in the minds of most people balanced out, but which caused Wen Chao no end of rage. He knew he couldn’t take out his anger on the talented Wen Xu and so took out on poor Wen Ning instead.
Nie Mingjue hated the Wen sect.
He did not hate Wen Ning.
Wen Ning, who should not be here.
“Please,” Wen Ning said, nearly in tears, as he threw himself down to the floor in front of Nie Mingjue. He’d burst into the room in the inn Nie Mingjue was staying at, the guards that no sect leader could do without no matter what they wanted following close behind in alarm until Nie Mingjue had waved them off with a gesture; he’d been panting so hard that he’d only just now caught his breath. “Please help this useless older brother do one good thing with his life.”
Alarmed, Nie Mingjue reached out and caught Wen Ning by the shoulders, pulling him to stand and even forgetting himself enough to reach forward with a sleeve to dab away the tears staining the other man’s face.
“What is it?” he asked, feeling anxiety curdling in his gut. He’d spoken with Wen Ning before during the discussion conferences, both when he was younger and even, in a few stolen moments, after he became sect leader; he knew Wen Ning had a steady personality, if a weak one from all the bullying he endured, and that he was not given to unnecessary hysterics. If he could tolerate Wen Chao’s endless torment with a faint smile and a don’t worry sect leader Nie once you’re used to it it’s more funny than anything else, then what could make him act like this? “What is that you need help with? I do not understand.”
Wen Ning looked tired. He always had, his health had always been poor, but now it seemed worse than ever; there were circles under his eyes, and Nie Mingjue had no idea how he’d managed to get away from the Nightless City to come find him. The town he was currently in was close to the border the Qinghe Nie shared with Qishan Wen, but it was still an effort, especially for someone like Wen Ning. He might be a member of the Wen family by name, but his freedom was significantly curtailed, and it wasn’t only because he was sickly.
“My little sister is going to be attending the lectures at the Cloud Recesses,” Wen Ning said.
“The - Lan sect lectures?” Nie Mingjue repeated blankly. It was a stupid thing to say; of course it was the Lan sect’s lectures, who else would give lectures at the Cloud Recesses? And yet, at the same time – “The Wen sect hasn’t gone to them in generations.”
“Sect Leader Wen asked A-Qing to look for something,” Wen Ning said. “I don’t know what. He talks to her more than he talks to me, when she’s treating him with acupuncture and other such things – he only wants blood relations treating him now, so she’s passing along what she can do, the doctors all say she’s talented – he told her something, I think, but I don’t know what, he doesn’t talk to me…and she doesn’t talk to me, either.”
“She’s sixteen, they’re like that,” Nie Mingjue said, trying to offer comfort, but he didn’t like the sound of that – Wen Ruohan growing reliant on the medical skills of a teenager, talking with her as if she were an adult…it didn’t speak well to the Chief Cultivator’s state of mind. “So she’s going to go spy on them?”
“She is. And maybe more. There’s – there’s something back in the Nightless City, something Sect Leader Wen is refining in order to increase his power. Whatever it is, it’s powerful and evil.” Wen Ning looked paler than usual, somehow. “It was something that was kept in a cave near our village when we were younger, once. Sect Leader Wen took it away to study, and it made something go crazy, I got hurt, and my parents – anyway, it doesn’t matter. I can’t go near it without losing my senses, so I really don’t know anything about it. But I know that Sect Leader Wen only has a piece – and the Lan sect has another.”
Lan Xichen had never mentioned such a thing, but then again, he wasn’t really old enough that Nie Mingjue would expect him to know everything about his sect – he was after all a full five years younger than Nie Mingjue, three years younger than Wen Ning; he was still only seventeen, having only just graduated from his uncle’s classes the year before. He was only very technically sect leader, in the same way Nie Mingjue had only been technically sect leader after his father’s death, although unlike Lan Xichen Nie Mingjue had fought his way to step up to the task for real early on. He himself was only barely considered an adult at the age of twenty-two; it was no surprise that in the Lan sect, which had Lan Qiren to rely on, Lan Xichen might not know it all.
Or perhaps he knew, and simply didn’t say. Each sect was entitled to its secrets.
“What are you thinking?” Nie Mingjue asked.
“I’m thinking that my sister is constantly afraid for me, even though she’s younger than me,” Wen Ning said solemnly. “I’m thinking that she will break her own principles into pieces to protect me. I’m thinking that she’ll find whatever it is, or find a hint to it, and then Wen Chao will take his forces to burn the Cloud Recesses to the ground in search of it.”
Nie Mingjue could see that.
He didn’t want to, but he could.
“My brother is attending those lectures,” he said blankly. Nie Huaisang was there right now. He could be in danger – no, he would be in danger. Nie Huaisang wasn’t a good cultivator, and at fourteen, he was just a baby. Nie Mingjue had sent Meng Yao with him, nominally as his attendant, but in fact to get the benefit of the classes himself and also bully Nie Huaisang into actually learning something – he’d brought Meng Yao into the Nie sect after Jin Zixuan, full of guilt over how his father had treated a boy only two years his junior, had sent him a letter beseeching him for help following Meng Yao’s public and humiliating rejection from Jinlin Tower – but Meng Yao was only sixteen, of age with Wen Qing; what could he really do?
Moreover, sending Wen Qing and not Wen Xu, even though Wen Xu was the same age as Nie Huaisang and Lan Wangji, indicated that Wen Ruohan didn’t want his more promising son to get involved in whatever it was that he was planning, or maybe in whatever consequences followed. If Wen Chao really were to try something violent, they couldn’t afford to have a weakness already there…
“I need to get A-Qing out of the Wen sect,” Wen Ning said, and Nie Mingjue turned to look at him in shock. “Permanently. I’ve begged her to go, but she won’t leave me, she won’t leave our family of the Dafan Wen, but she has to. Something bad is going to happen soon. I know it. I don’t mind trading my life for hers, but she has to live.”
“Is there any way you can go to the Cloud Recesses as well?” Nie Mingjue asked, his mind already racing. He’d long ago given up on helping Wen Ning because he knew the other man wouldn’t turn traitor against his family, being an upright and filial child, but if his family had reached such a depth of corruption as that, then it was only right to leave them behind. If Wen Ning was finally accepting that, maybe there was something he could do. “You’re sensitive to the – whatever it is. Right? Maybe Wen Qing can suggest bringing you around to help her find her way to it.”
“How would that help?”
“It gets you somewhere safe, while I can rescue Dafan Wen – without a threat to you or to them, your sister would have no reason to insist on staying,” Nie Mingjue said, though it wouldn’t be him, exactly, that did the rescue – he’d need a firm alibi lest Wen Ruohan use it as an excuse to start something with his Nie sect. He might have prepared for war as much as he could, but the Wen sect was still stronger; if war broke out, he needed to make sure that he had the moral high ground.
Luckily, Wei Wuxian, that walking calamity of a head disciple of Yunmeng Jiang, had of late developed the habit of wandering over to visit various other sects, including Qinghe (and Nie Mingjue in specific), at his leisure, and no one ever would think to blame him for such a strange thing as a subsidiary sect of distant Wen sect cousins disappearing.
After all, Wei Wuxian had no reason to know or care about the Dafan Wen, and everyone knew he abjured politics completely, violently and repetitively, so as to make no mistake about anyone who might otherwise see him as competition for the Jiang sect’s true heir, Jiang Cheng. The five-year gap between their ages kept them from being compared – you couldn’t expect a child, and at fifteen Jiang Cheng was still very much a child, to keep up with an adult just turned twenty like Wei Wuxian – but there had always been whispers given everything with Cangse Sanren, and Wei Wuxian had had to work very hard to put a stop to them.
Wei Wuxian’s wandering habit had started back when he’d been trying to find Jiang Yanli a new fiancée to replace the engagement he’d broken by fighting with Jin Zixuan, however shameful it was for him to fight with a boy two years his junior. It was for that that he had come to Qinghe to meet Nie Mingjue, leading to them hitting it off as friends despite Nie Mingjue expressing that he had absolutely no interest in getting married to Jiang Yanli, or indeed to any nice young lady at all; then, in turn, Nie Mingjue had brought him to the Lan sect to meet Lan Xichen. They’d gotten along as well, although the most notable outcome of that visit had been little Lan Wangji developing a crush on his elder brother’s new friend while Wei Wuxian remained blissfully oblivious. His wanderings had continued even after Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan had found their way back to each other, affianced once again through their own choice rather than their parents’.
Said parents had not yet been informed of this new situation, as they were waiting for the right time to mention it. Or perhaps more accurately, the right situation to exploit with it…
Now, Nie Mingjue thought. Now was the time. It would work perfectly.
And not just as a distraction.
“Are you sure…?”
“I am,” Nie Mingjue said. “Whatever it is, Wen Ruohan must be kept from obtaining all of the pieces; he’s already too powerful, and more power will only make him more arrogant. I’ll speak with Lan Qiren. Once I take the Dafan Wen back to the Nie sect, your sister will be able to testify to whatever it is that she was asked to search for, which will give Lan Qiren the evidence he needs to get his sect’s approval for retaliatory measures. Moreover, using Wei Wuxian to help me will force Jiang Fengmian to support me as well; there’s no way he’d ever refuse to back him to the hilt.”
“The Jin sect –”
“Will join us,” Nie Mingjue said, thinking of Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan’s yet-to-be-announced engagement. Once Jin Guangshan realized that he would be pulled into the same boat as the rest of them whether he wanted to or not, any resistance he had would crumble like a structure made of sand being beaten down by the tide. “They won’t have a choice. Is there anything else I should know?”
“There’s a child,” Wen Ning said, biting his lips. “Around the same age as your brother or my sister, or maybe the Jiang sect heir, I don’t know, around that. He helps Sect Leader Wen with whatever he’s doing.”
“A child helps him?”
Nie Mingjue didn’t like the sound of that.
“I don’t know. Some secret his family knows, I think…his surname is Xue.”
Nie Mingjue frowned.
“I don’t know much about him,” Wen Ning added. “Only that he has some history with the Yueyang Chang clan. Bad history.”
“That’s a good start,” Nie Mingjue said. He realized that he hadn’t yet released Wen Ning’s shoulders, and gave them a small squeeze before doing so. “Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will do everything I can to help you.”
Wen Ning looked at him with admiration in his eyes, making Nie Mingjue feel a little hot under the collar.
“Thank you, Chifeng-zun,” he murmured, and Nie Mingjue shook his head.
“Call me by name,” he said, and tried to smile. “You’ll be here a lot in the future, if all goes well.”
Nie Mingjue hated the Wen sect, but he didn’t hate gentle and sad Wen Ning.
He didn’t hate him at all.

au of an au for qin su!wwx where wwx is still in qin su's body but it's JYL who gets summoned back in MXY's body.
Jiang Yanli doesn’t know what she was expecting to happen after she died, but it certainly wasn’t waking up a few minutes later in a donkey shed with blood all over her robes.
She’d been stabbed, she remembers. Perhaps they put her in the first sheltered place they could find while the battle was still going on, and somehow missed the fact that she was still alive? Yanli reaches up to her chest and tries to feel her heartbeat; she is somehow very certain that she had died, since the look on A-Xian’s face when the sword went through her chest was--
But the memory remains unfinished, because Yanli’s hands are poking at her bosom, patting over her ribs one by one as she wonders when she became so thin. Her mother always complained about her narrow figure, even as she scolded her for eating so much when she was in her teens--and Madam Jin worried about how difficult childbirth might be before Jin Ling arrived, since her waist and hips were so skinny--but her breasts were never this flat, and her ribs never stuck out this much even when she was a child.
And then her fingers brush over the rounded lump at her throat, and reveal the truth in one devastating blow that brings Yanli to her knees.
This isn’t my body, she realizes, backing away from the bloody array on the ground and into the rickety cupboard standing against the wall. This is a man’s body.
___
Less than two hours after she wakes, Yanli escapes from the Mo estate in such turmoil that she almost forgets to take the donkey with her.
Keep your wits about you, she berates herself, dressing herself in the only set of spare robes she could find before squirming out of the shed’s high window and crumpling into the dust outside. Mo Xuanyu meant to bring back A-Xian, but that means that A-Xian is...
She blinks back tears, dragging the donkey down the road behind her as she reads over Mo Xuanyu’s letter again. The poor boy had been one of Jin Guangshan’s illegitimate sons, Jiang Yanli’s own xiaoshuzi, and Jin Guangyao had exiled him because he had learned the truth about Qin Su being his younger half-sister.
He was behind your death, too, the letter said. I believe he might even have organized Jin Zixuan’s assassination, since he most likely murdered our father, as well.
Jiang Yanli grits her teeth and pushes on. The single long cut in her arm throbs--a cut that will heal only when Jin Guangyao dies, according to Mo Xuanyu--but the sting is nothing to the twenty hours of sheer agony that was giving birth to Jin Ling, who turned out so big and chubby that she spent the first few hours of his life wondering how such an enormous baby could have possibly fit inside her.
How old would A-Ling be now? she wonders. Did Jin Guangyao and Qin Su bring him up, in mine and Zixuan’s place?
Oddly enough, she doesn’t find herself shying away at the thought of bringing Jin Guangyao to justice. She can probably count on Nie Mingjue to do the actual killing, if it comes to it; there was bad blood between the two even before she and her husband died, and quite frankly, she doesn’t blame Nie Mingjue for it.
A-Xian tore the men who killed the Jiang shidis and shimeis limb from limb, and she would expect no less from a man who watched Jin Guangyao kill his brothers-in-arms right before his eyes.
But then, why did they swear brotherhood after that?
It must have been for Zewu-jun’s sake, Yanli thinks wearily, when she finally stops at a river crossing and leads her donkey down onto the pebbly beach to take a drink. Though I doubt that Zewu-jun could have sworn brotherhood with anyone who had Lan blood on their hands, whether he owed them a life-debt or not.
Her stomach growls, and she searches in the donkey’s saddle-bag for something to eat just in case the owners of the Mo estate had left some bread or fruit there to coax the animal with. Her brief hunt yields a pair of shriveling apples, half-dried but not yet spoiled, so she washes down the fresher one with plenty of cold water and feeds the bigger, drier apple to the donkey.
“I think I’ll call you Apple,” she laughs, as it wolfs down the fruit before sticking its muzzle back into the bubbling stream. “Do you like your name, xiao-pingguo?”
Little Apple takes to the name well enough, and brays contentedly every time she calls it. They rest together by the river for an hour, with Yanli napping in the shade with Little Apple keeping guard; and she starts off again just after noon, hoping to find a main road that might direct her to a town and then towards the nearest cultivation sect.
Jiang Yanli has to admit that Yunmeng Jiang is out of the question: because as much as she loves her younger brother, she highly doubts that he won’t do something stupid if he thinks some nameless Jin exile is pretending to be her. And she certainly can’t go back to Lanling with Jin Guangyao still there, so her quarry will have to be the Gusu Lan clan. Hanguang-jun was friends with her A-Xian, and would surely hear her out for his sake if for nothing else; and Zewu-jun is not as hot-tempered as Chifeng-zun, meaning that Yanli will come to no harm even if Lan-zongzhu doesn’t believe her.
“Xiao-Pingguo,” Yanli begins, stepping over something silvery in the grass as the two of them head deeper into the woods, “how far do you think the--”
Suddenly, her legs go out from under her. Little Apple brays and backs away in alarm, tossing his head anxiously as Yanli struggles into a sitting position and tries to make sense of the fact that her donkey is now over ten feet below her.
“What on earth?” she mutters, biting back one of A-Xian’s favorite curse words as she takes stock of her current situation: trapped inside a net swaying far above the ground, and with no means of cutting her way free from it without breaking her own neck.
“It caught something!” Yanli hears a boyish voice shout, followed by the crackling of someone rushing through the forest and the twang of a drawn bowstring. “Duck, Yu-da-shixiong! I’m going to shoot!”
“You are going to do no such thing,” someone else drawls, with a hint of a sharp Northern accent that reminds her of her late mother. “At least see what you’ve caught, you onionhead. If your stupid nets managed to catch a Lan, you’ll have Chifeng-zun and Hanguang-jun dragging you to Jin-zongzhu for punishment. Chifeng-zun might even punish you himself, since he’s Jin-zongzhu’s sworn da-ge. Do you really want to take the risk?”
“No,” the first boy grumbles. “And anyway, it looks like it’s just--you!”
The sudden dislike in his voice makes Yanli look down, startled, and then the breath flies out of her body as the Jin disciple marches up to stand beneath her.
“Jin Ling?” she asks, her own voice cracking like shattered glass as the Jiang disciple mounts his sword and flies up towards her, presumably so that he can help her climb out of the net. “A-Ling--is it you?”

the double standards annoy me so much, like i'm seeing so many jc stans going on tirades about how terrible wwx, lwj, and wn are for being so ~mean~ over the golden core reveal. but it's okay for jc to scream at wwx about things he didn't do (yunmeng being attacked, his parents being killed, jyl being killed) and insult him all the time? why does jc apparently have a licence to treat everyone like shit but the second someone so much raises their voice at him theyre an unforgiveable monster
because jiang cheng has ✨trauma✨ and anyone who even says something slightly mean to him is a Bully.
like during the whole scene where jiang cheng is screaming and crying about how wwx betrayed him and whatever, the part that made me really emotional was how wwx didnt want to be constantly reminded of the sacrifice he made. he didnt say "lets not mention it" because hes a bully who doesnt care about jiang chengs feelings, he saying it because he doesnt want to be constantly thinking about something that was obviously a horrible experience thats happened now and cant be taken back.
he didnt want to be reminded again and again of what it felt like when his core was cut out or what price he had to pay. is this was exposed in the past, he'd most likely laugh and comfort jiang cheng. 'it's not that big of a deal anyways. look at me all these years. without the core, i still managed to come through, didn't i? beating everyone i wanted to beat, killing everyone i wanted to kill.' but now, he indeed didn't have the strength left to put up such a confident, nonchalant pretense.
literally every post about the golden core transfer/reveal is about how hard and sad it was for jiang cheng, like he couldnt have lived a perfectly content life up until that point if he wasnt so obsessed with hating wei wuxian. and people think he's perfectly within his rights to blame wwx for every little thing that went wrong in his life, and that dying and giving up his core does nothing to repay the endless debts jiang cheng thinks he owes to him and the sect.
no one want jiang cheng begging on his knees for forgiveness, but to at least allow wwx to move on from that time in his life without constantly having it thrown back in his face, most of which he's getting the blame for not being his fault in the first place. the only death you could actually pin on wwx is jin zixuan, and it would be hypocritical of jiang cheng to hold that over wwxs head considering he was very much ready and willing to let him die in the caves during the wen camp.
jiang cheng wasnt even upset over getting the golden core, he was upset because it made him look like an awful person now. that the image of wwx being this uncontrollable monster he had built up in his head to relieve himself of the guilt of hating him had now been shattered. finding out about the golden core transfer basically confirmed every insecurity jiang cheng had about wwx before the war, made worse by the fact that jc had really deluded himself into thinking wwx had betrayed the sect and killed everyone he loved in cold blood.
it really is quiet pitiful of him, but he ended up in this situation due to his own shortcomings and i think he finally realises it now. that wwx was never the one to blame.
and yet somehow fanon has twisted it to be jiang cheng who was the one that was wronged ,,,... like literally how could they read that entire scene and think /jiang cheng/ was the victim in the end. the only thing he was a victim of was his own bad decisions.
