to the crew member who is responsible for the Sprig plush in Hunter's room — i love you i owe you my life <3

POV grimwalker #58 is 8 years and frew up at 3am
Tumblr media
Once I caught up on season 2 of TOH last summer and saw the Sprig plush in Hunter's room, my brain went BRRRRRRRR. Even though it's just an easter egg/cute reference someone snuck in, I immediately thought that Amphibia existing as a children's book or book series on the Boiling Isles would be a fun in-universe reason for him to have a Sprig plush; especially since Hunter canonically loves to read, like Luz. I thought it would have been nice for the Amphibia books to have been one of the few genuine childhood experiences he got to have before being fully indoctrinated by Belos. Since we don't have a full canon timeline for Hunter, I made a few artistic choices when I was originally doodling these. 1. His ear notch is from creation, and not an injury. I got the image stuck in my mind of a still clay-like toddler grimwalker, and Belos accidentally clipping his ear in the process of trying to cut his hair 💀 2. Hunter's face scar happens later on, maybe around age 12 or 13 (and almost definitely due to an outburst from Belos). 3. Before Flapjack (❤️), Hunter monologued to Sprig 4. While the thought of Darius, Lilith, or Belos being the adult to help make the plush is extremely funny, I couldn't imagine any of them actually doing that, LMAO. Darius and Lilith might not have even been a coven heads yet, and while Belos may have indulged the fresh child grimwalkers a little, I couldn't see him being kind or patient enough to do more than just allow them to have some of their own childhood interests for a short while. Gotta let your child soldiers have the illusion of personal choice and love so they stay loyal :,) SO, I thought to myself, "Who the fuck would be in the castle, but wouldn't hate Hunter for existing??" and then I thought about how Amity volunteered with the public Library to read to kids and help them with projects, and how amazing librarians are, in general. So I decided the castle library had this kind witch as an employee for a while during Hunter's childhood, and he is the one who helped Hunter make Sprig :,,,) Credits Non-native procreate brushes used: Star Brush Set for Procreate by CK Art & Design Ultimate Dynamic Comic Panels, Balloons and SFX Toolkit for Procreate By Ittai Manero
Hunter's bedroom layout referenced from Hunting Palismen (S2E6), and Leland Goodman's original design for Lilith's room (which it seems was re-used for Hunter's room later on in production).

Pow Pow Vegan Restaurant
This Friday my girlfriend and I traveled to Franklin Square to check out Pow Pow, a vegan Asian restaurant located at 1250 I St NW #102, Washington, DC. When you enter there are two self ordering kiosks, one by the door and another in front of the kitchen just in case you have any questions for the cooks.
We browsed the menu thoroughly and I ordered the K-town BBQ Chick’n bowl($12), my girlfriend got the Tokyo Robot bowl($12), and the Trolley Fries($10).
After about a five minute wait we got our food and the presentation was exceptional, from the placement and layouts to the portions of it all.
I took my first bite of the K-town BBQ Chick’n Bowl and was hit with the sweet and savory taste of the BBQ Chick’n. Then I noticed a slight spicy taste that I think came from one of the sauces that I did not like. But the addition of the pineapple kimchi and carrots gave some contrast to that flavor. The fried shallots sprinkled on top added a crunchy texture with every bite making it more dynamic. All In all the K-town BBQ Chick’n was satisfactory.
I then tasted the Tokyo Robot bowl and automatically realized that she chose the better bowl. It was sweet and tangy from the Teriyaki Chick’n and grilled pineapples, and the miso drizzled on top added a contrasting salty rich taste making it exquisite. The one critique I have of both bowls is the rice. There was more rice than anything else so eventually I was forcing myself to eat plain rice.
We ate the Trolley Fries last and they were very mediocre. The cashew cheese and togarashi Mayo made it better but the kimchi was simply bland but there was too much of it to ignore.

Papa Louie Concept pt. 2: The Town of Deer Creek
pt.1
Population: only 23.
Tumblr media
Created this layout in Happy Island Designer, so it's a little rough. This place runs off of camp sites, road kill, and a K-12 school that's a catch-all for all the people living in the mountains.
The average income of a person living in Deer Creek is 18,056 USD per year. Due to low funding from the government, the town has been run down severely. Although it won't fix the problem completely, Papa's Roadkillaria may bring some money into the town.
Tumblr media
Here's the general site of the restaurant (just now realizing how similar it is to Maple Mountain).
For the school, they have a school baseball team named the Deer Creek Badgers. They aren't the best team (they've only won a real game twice in the 35-year history of the school).
The highest point is about 3,266 feet (995 meters) above sea level, locally known as the Foreigner's Point, since people often camp up there. The people here do not know much other than their home, due to the inability to travel and the lack of internet.
Winters are cold and dry, summers are warm and wet. The average temperatures go as follows:
January: 12℉ (-11℃) low, 25℉ (-3℃) high
February: 11 ℉ (-11℃) low, 26℉ (-3℃) high
March: 16℉ (-8℃) low, 36℉ (2℃) high
April: 27℉ (-3℃) low, 48℉ (9℃) high
May: 38℉ (3℃) low, 60℉ (16℃) high
June: 46℉ (8℃) low, 68℉ (20℃) high
July: 51℉ (11℃) low, 73℉ (23℃) high
August: 50℉ (10℃) low, 74℉ (23℃) high
September: 46℉ (8℃) low, 65℉ (18℃) high
October: 37℉ (3℃) low, 53℉ (12℃) high
November: 25℉ (-2℃) low, 40℉ (4℃) high
December: 14℉ (-10℃) low, 27℉ (-1℃) high
so yeah, that's me rambling.

Still feeling behind on EVERYTHING.
(Slightly grumbly that partner let me sleep for an hour after my alarm went off. Dude. No. Alarm went off for a reason. Ggghhhhhhhhh.)
Some interesting writing experiments behind the cut
Everything today has taken longer than planned BUT, for a change of pace while writing -- and actually make it to my breakfast or brunch (depending on the time) writing session -- I started one of those solo journaling RPGs. The way I have it set up, it will take me 13 sessions to complete. Today was session 1 which was actually a double session as I wrote and collaged two pages for two prompt sets. Or, actually, it was a triple session if counting the fact that I needed to read through the whole zine from beginning to end, think on it for a moment to decide how I would set up my "house rules" for this run, set up the template for a page layout in a digital file that includes space for text and images I will generate each day, and then select the randomizer tools I wanted to use -- the shadowscape tarot, no dice -- and get the cards sorted out and ready for use in this solo TTRPG.
I am using the "Yourself" solo journaling tarot-based TTRPG (which just went on 50% off sale and is cheaper than most cups of coffee!) -- https://k-ramstack.itch.io/yourself
The first session produced 1215 words as it was a little longer given how I have set up my house rules.
These words were fast and easy to write. Not exactly memoir fiction. Not exactly urban fantasy. Somewhere in between.
There is a solidness and a sense of ease to this that I like.
I suspect that when I am done after the 13 days of this, I will end up with 8000 to 9000 words. With the exception of the first day and last day, all of the days in the middle involve a single prompt generated from two tarot cards (and the TTRPG rules) and I've digitally created space in my template for approximately 580-600 words per day.
While this will give me enough words to expand a little bit into a novella, I suspect the 8 to 9k words I will produce in two weeks won't have the glue to totally stand alone but they will likely become something I can rework and reuse once I figure out which direction I want to take it. (Potential direction as of today: standalone urban fantasy story? Illustrated art-n-story book? Character development to fold into my sff universe? Bits and piece of text to scavenge and reuse in a variety of things?)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Given that today was an eeexxxxxttttrrraaaa long session getting all of this set up and ready to go, plus a double writing session so I could make sure my digital template is working for me, all of the time I spent today kicking this off won't be reflective of my daily effort for the next 12 days. I suspect it will take me 30-45 minutes daily to put together a page of ~580 fresh new words plus images (clipped from various sources for personal use, yes, some are copyrighted by other ppl, which includes images of the tarot cards thus I cannot show the pages even if I felt compelled to).
And that will leave me time to get back to existing WIPs, to start other new writing experiments, or both.
...
Currently sticking this post here for sake of sticking it somewhere.
That said, I will soon start up an actual writing blog rather quietly tbh. If following my pro-self's writing blog is something of interest, let me know.
No clue when I will take the time to start up my public writing blog because I currently feel so behind on everything but-- just putting that out there as a future thing for sometime this summer.

let me disarm the loaded part of this question before answering
Tumblr media
i am one of those people that would rather play 3d over 2d any day, but that doesn’t make them necessarily inferior. i personally believe that they are, and i think 2d fighters are extremely slow to evolve. heres the read more
for one, 3d fighters are typically significantly slower paced. not just the rounds/matches themselves but also the moves you do. a jab in tekken is 10 frames. a jab in street fighter is 3. i’ve always preferred the pace of gameplay in 3d.
something i like about that means that i actually have an opportunity to fucking react to things. how are you supposed to react to a 5 frame move in SF? in tekken i can sometimes even duck throws on reaction, which vary between 14, 12, and 10 frames.
for two, characters in 3d fighting games usually have WAY MORE MOVES than 2d counterparts. take ryu in SF - he has normals on 6 buttons, special moves (with ex versions, different versions for light/med/heavy etc). in tekken, negan has a shitload of moves attached to 1 (which represents the left hand). ryu might have ~50 total, and a lot of moves ‘repeat’ themselves, whereas a tekken character (especially older ones) might have like 200 or more. and they’ll have VASTLY different properties
oh wait let me explain notation. not all 3d games are like this, but in tekken, it’s 1, 2, 3 and 4, representing left hand, right hand, left leg, right leg. i love this system already, very intuitive. i prefer it to 6 button fighters, it makes more sense to me.
button combinations like 1+2 represent using both hands.
(in soul calibur, it’s A, B, K and G, meaning horizontal, vertical, kick and guard. it’s simpler for a lot of reasons, but also very intuitive in its own way. obviously you want to step out of the way of vertical moves!)
THE ADDITION of the extra dimension makes the game very deep for a variety of reasons. for one, stages have actual differences - in 2d games most stages really aren’t different at all besides visually. some might have wall breaks or different distances but that’s it. Tekken stages (and other 3ds) have different layouts, different shapes, wall/floor/balcony breaks are common, etc, and it usually contributes a LOT to how a matchup or game plays. (there are also no-wall infinite stages.)
but besides stages, being able to sidestep left or right obviously affects gameplay dramatically. in street fighter if they think im going to pressure them in the corner with jabs, mids, overheads, whatever, we HAVE TO fight in the corner. in tekken...they can find, or create, an opening to sidestep OUT of the corner. or sidestep the jab itself! slip left and you can punish me for trying to hit you.
which is a lot more like real fighting (i have done martial arts for a lot of my life)
you’ll hear a lot of people call tekken ‘one of, if not the, hardest fighting games.’ there was a picture floating around someone posted where a guy posted all his top ranks in fighting games and all his tournament wins, but in tekken he was only blue rank and couldnt get to emperor/tekken king/tekken god etc.
in tekken there’s always something to improve and you learn from every session. one session early on, i distinctly remember -- if i need to sidestep left against another negan while close-up, i should be sidestepping right in longer neutral, so that i have ROOM on my left. it’s just a kind of spatial reasoning concept that would never come up ever in a 2d
the massive movelists and the massive amount of options EVERY character has available to them to DEAL with the massive movelist makes the game deep, hard and fun.
3d games like tekken typically have a lot of the things that a casual actually WANTS out of a fighting game, that 2d games typically don’t. character customization is an example.
ive already rambled for way too long so send more asks about fighting games
