So, this song I’m about to sing you, it fits appropriately enough on the circle of violence in this album, and it just, it’s like a poem set to music that I suppose tries to credit the experience of going to different parts of the world that have indigenous names, so Apalachicola, Hushpuckena, places in Australia that we would visit, and then I would ask locals, “What does this place name mean?” and no one being able to tell me what it meant. And it just, I suppose, credits that experience. And recognizing as an Irish person, that although there’s many place names, there’s a great written history in Ireland, and we’re very fortunate that we can still learn much of the language and it’s very accessible to us, the place names and their meaning is very accessible to us, and that is not always the case everywhere you go in the world. I just remembered Netflix's Anne with an E and the storyline with Ka'kwet that was starting in the last season being so intense and interesting like Mi'kmaq people are suffering Imperialism-
And then the show got euthanized by Netflix who imposed a closure and nvm I hope your parents eventually get you free Ka'kwet I'm getting married byeeee

Every day praising an indigenous character — Day 15
Ka'kwet from Anne With an E
Ka'kwet is a member of the Mi'kmaq nation, the daughter of Aluk and Oqwatnuk, and the older sister of Kitpu and Mimikej. The Mi'kmaq or Mi'kmag are an indigenous ethnic group in eastern Canada. The Mi'kmaq are a First Nations people indigenous to Canada's Atlantic Provinces and the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec as well as the northeastern region of Maine.

Ever think about that the last time we see Ka'kwet, she's being abused in a residential school and how it represents the many First Nation/Indigenous children's narratives that were cut off abruptly in a similar fashion

OOU Characters as Anne With an E Characters
because i'm in my feels 😚✌️
Bronwyn: Diana
Both grew up with very high expectations from their respective families (plus they're both, like, rich) and care deeply about their friends. I guess you could also say Anne because of how quick both are to take action but overall Diana's a better fit.
Maeve: Ka'kwet
Both curious, intelligent, extremely determined and strong individuals, despite the struggles each has faced. They are both remarkably strong-willed and find solutions in impossible situations.
Cooper: Matthew
Kinda unconventional pick because of the obvious differences, but both are sorta shy, dad-figures, sooooo full of unconventional love and just generally adorable.
Kris: Gilbert
Medical kings + just so loving and kind and smart and lovely? Both of these characters own my heart and are the best boyfriends to their respective partners.
Knox: Moody
The definition of 'sweet but no brain.' Both characters are pushed to the side a little on account of the strong personalities by which they are surrounded but are well-liked due to their easygoing personality as well as their humour. They are both brave when they need to be and eager to help their friends on their missions.
Addy: Anne
Oh, Addy and Anne. Are there any characters as sweet and messy as these two? They both mean so well but occasionally fuck up trying to save themselves or their loved ones and value family and friends alongside their lives, not to mention that they both underestimate themselves from time-to-time.
Luis: Sebastian
They just have the same vibes. Flirty, kinda dumb but also really clever and obsessed with their girlfriends.
Nate: Cole
An out of pocket pick for Bayview's fave criminal, but the similarities between Cole and Nate are more than you'd initially think: they're both outcasts of sorts who are lonely and quiet, but brilliant in their own rights (even if they do underestimate themselves). They don't have the best family lives but they treasure time spent with friends; their school lives aren't the best either, being misunderstood by the students and teachers at their schools, and are susceptible to fits of rage. And also the Addy/Nate and Anne/Cole relationship parallels????? Perfection.
Phoebe: Mary
She's smart, sassy, soft-hearted and strong. Am I talking about Mary Lacroix or Phoebe Lawton? Who knows. They're both just amazing characters who loved people so much and deserved so much better.

awae s3 does such an interesting job of juxtaposing how marilla and rachel treat bash's vs ka'kwet's families.
it's obvious that marilla and rachel care deeply for bash's family. they protect them fiercely from racial discrimination, devote themselves to caring for delphine, and are absolutely devastated when mary dies. all this despite the backlash from the rest of avonlea, in the face of blatant disapproval, because they truly believe that race doesn't and shouldn't create any difference in a person's intrinsic worth. yet in the same episodes we see them uphold all kinds of stereotypical prejudices against ka'kwet and her parents — prejudices that they would never have stood for if the targets had been bash, mary, and delphine instead.
it's strange seeing rachel, who so tenderly takes care of delphine, being as curt as she is to ka'kwet. and it's strange seeing marilla, who jumps at any chance to help when mary is dying and bash is falling apart, being unwilling to help ka'kwet's parents when she's so cruelly taken from them.
we know that marilla and rachel are not unkind, unjust people who can't see past differences. perhaps they have their reasons for being wary of ka'kwet's family, whom they are unfamiliar with (although this is because they choose not to get to know them). but we also see how their love for one socially marginalised community can coexist with warped biases against another. the contrast is so real and a great reminder of how nuanced such things are.
that being said, we do see some characters who have a great outpouring of love and acceptance for everyone around them: anne, gilbert, matthew, and ms stacy, to name a few.

Ka'kwet is canonically Mi’kmaw.
Akita is canonically Indigenous. She is from the fictitious Indigenous Formlings. One submitter said:
[Her] culture seems to be inspired by Native American tribes and they’re canonically a minority group that has been the victim of attempted genocide by invaders
