The emperor's hunt

The emperor, upon learning of Kaguya-hime's unparalleled beauty, said to her maid of honor, Nakatomi no Fusako:

- Please go there and find out what kind of woman Kaguya-hime is, this beauty who led so many men to ruin and refuses to get married.

Fusako obeyed and left. When she arrived at the Bamboo Cutter's house, the elderly woman, Kaguya-hime's earth mother, treated her with deference, letting her enter. The bridesmaid said:

- I have orders from His Majesty to check if Kaguya-hime is as beautiful as they say.

It looks like he wants to hire her.

-I'll talk to her- said the old woman, and went to the young woman.

- Please hurry and go find the Emperor's messenger.

- How can I appear before her? I'm not attractive at all! - said the young woman.

- Don't say such nonsense! You would dare to disrespect someone sent here by the emperor like this?

- I don't feel particularly pleased by the fact that the emperor has ordered me to be called to court.

Kaguya-hime showed no sign of going to meet the lady. The old woman felt the same consideration for the young woman as she would have for a child she had given birth to, but when the young woman spoke with such coldness she felt embarrassed, and was unable to reprimand her as she would have liked.

The elderly woman returned to where she was the bridesmaid and said:

- I apologize profusely, but the young lady is obstinate and refuses to see you.

- I have orders from His Majesty to check the young woman's appearance. How can I return to the Palace without seeing her? Do you think it is appropriate to allow anyone living in this country to disobey a royal order? Please don't let her act so thoughtlessly!

She intended to intimidate Kaguya hime, but when the young girl was informed, she refused even more vehemently to submit.

- If I am disobeying a royal order, let them execute me without delay - declared the young woman.

The maid of honor returned to the Palace and told what had happened. The emperor listened and just said:

- It is understandable why she is capable of causing the death of so many great men.

He seemed to have given up any intention of summoning Kaguya-hime to serve him, but his heart still remembered her and refused to be defeated by the young girl. So he sent for the Bamboo Cutter and declared:

- I want to hire Kaguya-hime. I became aware of the beauty of her face and her figure and sent a message to look for her. But she returned without even being able to catch a glimpse of the young woman. Did you raise her to be so disrespectful?

- Kaguya- hime flatly refuses to come and work at the court - replied the old man humbly. -but I will return to inform you of His Majesty's orders.

-How can a young woman created by you refuse to comply with her order? If you bring her to work here, you can be sure I will reward you with a position at court.

The old man returned home beaming. He reported the conversation to Kaguya-hime, concluding:

- That's what the emperor told me. Do you insist on not wanting to serve him?

- I refuse to serve at court.- replied the young woman. - If you force me, I will disappear. Your position at court would mean my death.

- Never do something like that! What use could I make of a position if I could no longer see my child? But why are you so hesitant to serve at court? Would that really kill her?

- If you still think I'm lying, send me to work at court and see if I don't die. Many men showed me unusual affection, but it was all in vain. If I obey the Emperor's wishes, I will already feel ashamed to think how people will view it in light of my coldness towards those other men.

- I don't care about anyone else - replied the old man. - The only thing that bothers me is putting your life in danger. I will tell the emperor that you still do not wish to serve him.

He returned to the Palace and spoke to the Emperor:

The emperor commented:

- So she is a being who has transformed. Therefore, there is no hope of having her in my service. But I'd like to at least go see her quickly.

- I think this can be arranged - said the old man.

- Your house is close to the mountains, isn't it? So I could, under the pretext of an imperial hunt, stop there to see the young lady.

- It's a great plan. If Her Majesty shows up unexpectedly, when she is not expecting a visitor, you will probably be able to see her.

The emperor immediately set the date for the hunt.

When he was on his way to the mountains to hunt, the emperor entered Kaguya-hime's house and saw a woman so beautiful that she glowed. He thought, “That's definitely Kaguya-hime,” and approached her. She tried to run, but the emperor held her by the sleeve. The young woman covered her face, but the glimpse he had had was enough to convince him that she was of unparalleled beauty.

I won't let her escape! - he exclaimed. But when he tried to take her with him, Kaguya-hime declared:

- If I had been born on earth, I would serve at court. But if you try to force me to go with you, you will find that this is not possible.

- Why isn't it possible? - asked the emperor. - I'll take her with me!

He ordered his litter to be brought, but suddenly Kaguya-hime disappeared into a shadow.

The emperor realized, with great astonishment and disappointment, that she was in fact no mere mortal.

- I will no longer insist that you come with me. But please return to your human form. Let me just see you again and I'll go away.

Kaguya rime has resumed its original appearance.

The emperor was still too enchanted by the beauty of the young woman to be able to suppress her feelings, and expressed to the old man his satisfaction that he had allowed that meeting.

The old man, in turn, held a splendid banquet for the emperor's officials.

The Emperor, bitterly disappointed at having to return to the palace without Kaguya-hime, left the Bamboo Cutter's house as if his soul had been left behind. With this feeling, he sent a verse to the young man:

kaerusa no, miyuki monouku, omo oete

somukite Tomu, Kaguya- Hime Yue

“I return to the palace, but my soul remains here; I turn, I hesitate, all because of Kaguya-hime, who challenges me and who I have to leave behind.”

The young woman wrote in response:

mugura hau, shita nimo toshi ha, henuru mi no

nanita wa tama no, utena omo min

“How could someone who spent his life in a house covered in vegetation dare to think of living in a palace adorned with precious stones?”

When he saw this poem, the emperor felt that he should not leave. But, since he couldn't stay with Kaguya Rime, he had no choice if he didn't return to the Palace. Listening to the palatial ladies who attended him, he thought what they did unworthy of being in Kaguya Rime's presence. In reality, the same ladies he had always considered the most beautiful of all women no longer enchanted him.

The emperor stopped visiting his wives and started writing letters to Kaguya Rime; the answers he received were never rude, at all he also sent me Buenos tied things or Ramos that looked especially beautiful.

I don't really understand when people talk about Enstars stories as mid specifically because it wasn't like... the next Reminiscence story. Yeah the really deep and juicy stories are what got a lot of us into the series but they can't all be like that or we'd be burnt out really quickly. Stories like Kaguya-hime and Ring.A.Bell's story or the individual unit and scout stories with low stakes help to develop characters and make them feel more like real people to the reader. Kaguya-hime is coming in between two major SS Arc tours and those are really intense, long stories and it's good to just have a girls night out shuffle unit in there to bleed tension as well as just give the readers a break. The story is about friends having one last hurrah before going their separate ways after high school (or Hiyori's "idol retirement" as it were), of course it's not going to be Checkmate or Human Comedy or Meteor Impact because it wasn't meant to be like those stories. Regular normal stories have their place in the series as much as the Reminiscence and Climax and Main Stories do.

i have not had the gacha luck in getting tatsumi… i was a liiiitle bit naive when i thought i possible could get both him and fs haku.. but at least i got the midori 4* ive been missing and a few copies of the naru card. both are so cute! now im gonna see if i can grind for some more dias. or maybe finish reading all the stories i havent yet..
