It seems so “generic action movie” now. I think its cause they aged up all the characters presumably so they can shoehorn in some het romances u g h

i love dwayne johnson but jack black is the only actor i think could actually fit with a jumanji movie in terms of comedic style (and even then his character is a vaguely uncomfortable "attractive teenage girl in jack black's body" plot).

Yeah thats not fresh. I think what really doesnt sit well is that it seems like theyre gonna introduce a lot of vulgarity to this one, because theyre cashing in on 80s/90s nostalgia hype but for the grown up versions of the kids who loved it; totally missing that the nostalgia factor stems a lot from the “innocence” of what we loved. Idk maybe for some folks the adult-versions of our faves scratches the itch but it feels hollow to me.

there’s a lot that bugs me about the new movie:

- the game turns into a video game after a boy who finds it puts it aside because “nobody plays board games anymore”. the thing is, sarah says something very similar in the original jumanji movie, but the game didn’t bother to change itself then. plus, it doesn’t matter if kids don’t like board games anymore, because the game will compel you to want to play it anyway

- a little bit of action is understandable, but turning it into a “guns and exploding helicopters” type of action movie is just. dumb.

- there’s only one thing that ties it to the original, and that’s that at one point they stay in a treehouse made by alan parrish during his time in jumanji. that’s it. that’s the only connection.

- characters in jumanji act like video game npcs, which makes sense with the dumb “jumanji is a video game now” thing i guess, but the world inside jumanji is implied in the first movie and shown in the animated series to be very very real, so exactly why this movie decides to have npcs fill its world makes no sense. the game of jumanji itself is just a portal of sorts to the jungle world. the jungle world is not the game.

- i care way more about this than i realised

- if they make a sequel where zathura is also a video game i’m gonna kill someone and then myself

im like kind of confused if you looked at this while not stoned, then decided you needed to appraise it again Whilst stoned, but I respect that kind of weedtegrity
