Pay Attention to Me

Kirari Momobami x She/Her Reader

A/N: Hi, good to see you! I just saw about a week or so ago that Kakegurui Twin is getting a season on Netflix and I am so excited! That doesn’t really have anything to do with what I wrote, but I thought I’d share anyway. I was kind of thinking about Kakegurui Kari while I wrote this so if Kirari seems a bit off, that’s probably why. Hope you enjoy! Word Count: 1,548

With Kaede out of commission, the poor fool, the treasurer position of the student council sat newly vacated, but not for long. Kirari had been waiting for an excuse to get her girlfriend on the council for months and now that she finally had one.

All it took was some honeyed words and a cute pout and then the position was filled.

Kirari had expected to sit at the head of the student council table with her girlfriend sitting beside her or better yet, on her lap. Then they would ignore the world around them, conversing through shared looks and touches while the others droned on about boring council business.

What Kirari had not expected, was for her girlfriend to spend all of this new time they could be spending together with Ririka instead.

Meeting about to begin, Kirari at the head of the table with Sayaka standing to her right, Ririka in the chair to her right, and an empty chair to her left. (Y/n) chooses the seat beside Ririka and leaves the chair to Kirari’s left to be filled by Runa.

During the meeting, Kirari tries to catch (Y/n)’s eye, but she’s either whispering with Ririka over a stack of documents or worse yet, actually participating in the meeting’s proceedings. Not even a glance in Kirari’s direction. Kirari pouts and sighs loudly throughout the meeting, but everyone studiously ignores her.

After the meeting, Kirari thinks that surely now (Y/n) will indulge her with some love and attention and waits patiently for the newly appointed treasurer to join her on her throne. Instead she watched blankly as (Y/n) follows Ririka to the connecting records room until the door shut behind them.

After school, Kirari thought now was definitely her time. She and (Y/n) always hung out after school together whether it was to gamble, go to dinner or to her grand estate to watch the fish swim by, they always were together.

But when Kirari approached, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend to rest her chin on her shoulder and whisper in her ear, (Y/n) gave her an apologetic smile and told her she would have to take a rain check. She kissed Kirari’s cheek and then turned back to Ririka, going over the the next paper the masked girl handed her.

Though Kirari looked as aloof as ever, she was actually disappointed by this turn of events. Hopefully (Y/n) would come to her senses the next day.

She did not.

Kirari stepped out of her car as soon as the driver opened her door. She was pleased to see her girlfriend chatting with Sayaka at the front gate, presumably waiting for her.

Kirari waltzed right up, expecting an exuberant greeting and maybe even a kiss as an apology for leaving her to stew in her boredom yesterday.

Instead Kirari barely received a hello before (Y/n) was focused in on Ririka coming out of the car behind her. Then the Vice President and the treasurer walked quickly into the school, leaving Kirari and Sayaka in the dust.

“I just don’t understand it Sayaka. It’s so peculiar.” Kirari walked beside her secretary, wondering what she would make out of this sudden development.

“You gave her a seat on the council.” Sayaka reminded patiently, “She wants to do well, so she cannot afford to, um, pardon me for saying so, laze about as you do.” She fidgeted.

Kirari chortled, not insulted by Sayaka’s words in the least.

“The way your mind works amuses me so.” Kirari sighed pleasantly. Truly, what would (Y/n) have to work so hard for? It was Kirari’s aquarium and by extension, hers as well. All they needed to do was give the fish a little something to nibble on and then sit back together and watch.

Even if (Y/n) cared to fulfill her new duties as treasurer, why would she go to Ririka when Kirari was her girlfriend? It simply wouldn’t do. Kirari gave (Y/n) the position to be closer to her, not Ririka. Usually Kirari was content to sit back and let things take whatever course the universe decided, but Momobami Kirari was not going to be stood up two days in a row.

When it was time to sit for the next meeting, one of the chairs inexplicably disappeared, leaving (Y/n) to stand as she scanned the room for the missing chair, but not for long.

“(Y/n),” Kirari called, patting her lap, “sit here.”

(Y/n) looked a bit reluctant to do so in the middle of a meeting with all of the council’s eyes on her, but the look in Kirari’s eye was one that shouldn’t be ignored, so she gave in. It wasn’t that unusual for them anyway.

A pleased hum sounded from Kirari’s throat and she linked her arms together over (Y/n)’s waist and her chin found home on her shoulder. Kirari shot her sister a satisfied smirk, but the older of the twin pair merely rolled her eyes beneath her mask.

Sayaka, not wanting to waste anymore time with Kirari’s nonsense at the moment, begin the proceedings. (Y/n) tried hard to listen along, but Kirari kept murmuring nonsense in her ear. Murmuring things that certainly had nothing to do with the meeting happening before them.

“Kirari, I’m trying to pay attention to the meeting.” (Y/n) whispered back, “You can tell me about the life cycle of an arowana another time.”

“No better time than the present. You don’t need to listen to this silly little meeting anyway, it’s below you.”

“It’s part of this job you gave me.” (Y/n) countered, “Council funds are all messed up after what happened to Manyuda-san. So I have to pay attention.” She sat up straighter and tried her best to ignore Kirari’s sighs and unusually restless legs.

“The Vice President has been generous enough to work with me on reorganizing and refinancing the student council’s treasury. The process is lengthy and intricate, but we are confident we will have things running smoothly again before the end of the next month.” (Y/n) spoke up, her voice pitching a bit awkwardly as Kirari’s unusual display of annoyance persisted.

Then Kirari suddenly stopped, her feet planted firmly against the ground once more.

The end of next month? She would have to share her girlfriend with her new council duties and her sister for that long? Kirari had briefly thought that she would take the leap and replace her sister to help (Y/n) with the meaningless project, but she would much rather do anything else than sit in the cluttered records room for five minutes, much less several weeks.

Kirari hadn’t expected it to come to this, but when it came to the few things in life she genuinely enjoyed, she did not like to share. Kirari would not allow (Y/n) to divert her attention from her any longer.

“I have something to say.” Kirari spoke up soon after, interrupting Yuriko who quickly clammed up.

“Yes, President?” Sayaka was surprised to say the least. Did Kirari really have something she wanted to add to the discussion?

“(Y/n), you’re fired.”

Midari and Runa burst out laughing while Yumemi put on a sympathetic act. Yuriko began to sweat, thinking she might be the next to go and Sayaka banged her head against the clipboard she was holding so hard, her forehead began to bleed. Ririka, who was only surprised Kirari even made it past the twenty-four hour mark before making her decree, sat completely unphased.

“What?!” (Y/n) gawked, twisting in Kirari’s arms in an attempt to decipher the placid smile on her girlfriend’s face.

“You no longer work for the council. You’re fired.” Kirari elaborated.

“But why? What did I do wrong?!”

Kirari pulled her bewildered, possibly even offended girlfriend, higher on her lap and booped her nose with a single finger, blue painted lips protruded slightly in a faux pout.

“You have been neglecting your most important commitment, me. You have been failing to meet your obligated quota of quality time with your girlfriend. Who need I remind you again, is me.”

(Y/n) swiftly opened her mouth to argue, but instead let the inhaled air become a heavy exhale. There was no point in trying to get Kirari to see reason. Poor Ririka, Sayaka would probably be able to help with the workload at least.

Kirari subtly tightened her hold on her girlfriend, bringing her attention back on to her instead of her thoughts.

“Pay attention to me.” Kirari said, the glint in her eye made it known that it was not a request.

“Yes, yes, okay, fine. Sorry everyone. Pretend I’m not here.” (Y/n) sunk into Kirari who happily pulled her closer with a look reminiscent of a satisfied cat.

Kirari waved her hand limply, “Continue on with business, Sayaka.”

“Thank you, President.” Sayaka bowed, ever the professional, “Our next order of business will now be to find a new treasurer… again.”

Kirari kissed the palm of (Y/n)’s hand, the gesture made (Y/n) crack a smile. Though she was still a bit annoyed with her sudden dismissal from the council, it was a sweet display. Ah, it was a stressful job anyway. (Y/n) was looking forward to whatever Kirari was planning with that calculating look in her eyes, ready to make up for the single day they lost.

MY CLUELESS FIRST FRIEND: la commedia scolastica di Taku Kawamura ispirerà una serie animata

Una ragazzina solitaria, presa sempre di mira dai compagni di classe, troverà la vera amicizia nel 2023.

Fra i millemila anime che già ci attendono nel corso del 2023, oggi si va ad aggiungere una nuova commedia scolastica, che ha l’aria di poterci regalare un pizzico di pace interiore con qualche, preziosissimo, momento wholesome.

STUDIO SIGNPOST (Kingdom: Season 4, Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga) è infatti al lavoro sull’adattamento animato del manga “MY CLUELESS FIRST FRIEND” (Jijou wo Shiranai Tenkousei ga Guigui Kuru) di Taku Kawamura (Kawaii Kouhai ni Iwasaretai, Kakegurui Kari).

Ad interpretare i due protagonisti, Akane Nishimura e Taiyou Takada, sono rispettivamente Konomi Kohara (Chika Fujiwara in Kaguya-sama: Love is War) e Shizuka Ishigami (Musashi in Orient).

La regia della serie è in man a Shigenori Kageyama (Dynamic Chord, Himawari!), mentre della sceneggiatura si stanno occupando Takafumi Hoshikawa e Shogo Yasukawa (The Executioner and Her Way of Life, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma).

Il character design è ad opera di Chikashi Kadekaru (Mieruko-chan, Juni Taisen: Zodiac War), invece la colonna sonora è composta da Toshio Masuda (Mushishi, Ninja Girl & Samurai Master).

Akane è una ragazzina solitaria e un po’ malinconica, cosa che la rende la pecora nera della classe. Non passa giorno senza che i suoi compagni la prendano di mira, ma l’amichevole Takada è diverso, lui è nuovo e non riesce proprio a capire perché la trattino così. Riuscirà con il suo carattere schietto e la sua amicizia sincera a illuminare le cupe giornate di Akane?

Il manga viene serializzato su Monthly Gangan Joker dal 2018 e la prossima settimana Square Enix ne pubblicherà il 13° volumetto.
