EtoKen Mini-Fic 2
Written for the ship showdown earlier this month, and wanted it to have its own post.
As Haise, Kaneki had heard many a tale about the One-Eyed Owl, the only SSS-rate in Tokyo. Large, powerful, nearly invincible. Six arms, like tree trunks, meant to crush anything foolish enough to get within range, and an ukaku kagune able to pierce any armor. The only one who had been able to land notable blows on it were Kishou Arima and Iwao Kuroiwa, and still both were only able to take a single arm.
However, when his kagune cut the nape of the kakuja's neck like a knife through butter, he couldn't help but feel that the tales were exaggerated, arrogant hyperbole caused by investigators too cowardly to throw their lives on the line.
Kaneki was not so intimidated.
He didn't realize the smirk etched on his mouth when he saw the main body with its head still attached to its shoulders. A sigh escaped his lips.
"I missed."
The creature had the audacity to mirror his expression, to create a dark reflection of the monster parading about in his body. It made his heart race, almost like a heart attack, at just how excited it looked, like someone had finally discovered the most obvious weakness in its defenses. Like it finally had an equal.
And Eto was excited. A newfound giddiness had wormed its way into her rotting heart when she felt the cool air of night sweep across her skin and into her lungs. Not even Arima had figured out the the nape trick; he had been all brute force, slicing her loose as if she were an infected limb. Kaneki, on the other hand, had to be resourceful while on Haise's favorite suppressants, and needed to methodically cut her out like a cancer.
She had been watching him carefully these past few years, tracking his progress under the king's tutelage with anticipation. At first, he was like a seed, but now he had sprouted like an angel just before it tipped from the grace of heaven. It made her heart race like never before, and she hardly knew what to do with herself. Such a feeling, festering like a wound since that fateful book signing, wasn't supposed to be possible for her, but here it was, new and red.
And she liked it.
However, she had to be careful not to kill him too quickly, lest he be cut from the ground before he could truly flower. Still, it couldn't hurt to indulge.

Tokyo Ghoul:redux
I love Tokyo Ghoul but I was disappointed in how it ended.
So like Haise after the battle with Suzuya I'm going to write down a couple of different paths I wish the manga had gone. And of all them are ideas that existed in the story.
I wish the resurrection plot line had been followed through. It was teased that Gagi and Guge would be brought back as well as their unreleased kagune.
But we just got a scene of Okahira stating the dead don't come back. I was excited when Okahira came back into the story.
Because I thought Hairu would come come back into the story. We know she had a close relationship with Arima. And Kanae survived being decapitated which I thought signify she could still be brought back.
I also thought it meant Shirazu would return and it would lead to an emotional clash with Urie.
I wished Eto had never showed up in chapter 52. She knocks Haise in the head and his memories come back. And immediately he concocts a plan to die. I would have had Haise let Shuu and Kanae escape using her new power.
The manga foreshadowed Haise would get his memories by investigating Amon. I would of had Haise tracked down Amon then team up to investigate Aogiri. Similar to how Arima tracked down Eto and teamed up with her. I think it would have been cool if Haise recovered his memories by finding out Arima was the One-Eyed King.
When ROS was revealed in the story I thought it would tie into the origin of the ghouls.
Although the origin of ghouls remained a mystery I think the implications was that humans were turned into ghouls by a human who suffered from ROS.
I would have had Touka involved in learning this secret since she stated her intention of wanting to discovered the origin of ghouls.
I wouldn't have had Arima die instead he would have turned into a ghoul.
The V agents used Dragon to turn themselves into ghouls to heal themselves. And Kaiko stated that Arima could have too if he had joined them.
I would have had him accidentally affected by Kaneki during their fight. I would have it be foreshadowing for Dragon.
I would have had Kaneki confront Arima for his betrayal and be more prepared for the fight by becoming a complete kakuja. Kaneki is very similar to Arata so maybe he could of fed on human and ghoul corpses to get stronger.
Amon had the abiility to infuse RC cells into his opponents causing their kagune to explode and he had Yoshimura's kakuho. I would have OWL have the same ability and when he used it on Kaneki have it be the method he is infected. After he slits his throat later he comes back as a ghoul.
I was disappointed with the aftermath of the Arima reveal. He basically betrayed everyone he ever knew and there was really no ramifications from it. Instead of Kaneki I would have found it more interesting if Arima lead the ghoul revolution in person instead from the shadows.

TWO HOURS HE BEEN SITTING IN THOSE BUSHES, peering outside with large eyes to pick up on any irregularities - any activities that weren’t the wind whistling nor owls flapping their wings. Truth be told, the longer Haise sat in this bush, the larger his discomfort grew. He almost felt uneasy, not to speak of all the bugs that been climbing on him.
YES, IT WAS FOOLISH, for someone in his position to pay any amount of attention to things such as ants crawling in his hair or on his skin... the Quinx’s skin so tough that they wouldn’t even leave bites on him. Yet Haise couldn’t help but shudder when he thought about how infested his clothes were by that point. What if one of them would crawl in his ear?
IF HE WASN’T CREEPED OUT ENOUGH, the sound of heaving breathing and growls only send furthers shivers up his spine. Yet it would appear that the wait was well worth it - the ghoul that was known to discard his partially-eaten prey here was just about to come. Haise sat up as quietly as he could, gray hues shifting to the figure that came stumbling to the park’s grass. He was struggling, appearing as though something was going wrong with him - and no body was found anywhere on his person or around him.
HAISE EVEN MADE SURE TO CATCH A WHIFF OF THE AIR. There was no human blood, none that was a ghoul’s either... was this just a man having some nervous breakdown? He almost felt bad sitting there and watching, brows arching slightly as a part of him wished to reach out and help.
UP UNTIL THE POINT IN WHICH THE MAN’S BODY CONTORTED, turning into something else, something he was yet to see. ‘ A KAKUJA..? ‘ He found himself wondering, planting a knee in the soil while the other leg bent and launched him forward.
“Hey! What’s going on over here?!” He called out, trying to pounce the target and pin him down.

not a list of wips, but a couple fic ideas that i’ve been rolling in my brain:
root a divergence
self-explanatory; try checking out Owl of You on ao3 if you want something that already exists
that said, this is not owl of you. this is a root a divergence fic. very different.
set during the 6 month timeskip of the original, after kaneki joins aogiri to kill the oek from the inside.
aogiri cleaning out the ghoul restaurants and securing power in each ward after the fact. digging into how they police the feeding habits of their members via a dove-only diet (or suicide victims; meat is meat, after all)
tatara being suspicious of kaneki's intentions within aogiri (he is definitely not jealous of the New Guy) (but also he's kinda right)
eto homeschooling hinami (it's cute ok)
kaneki reclaims his empathy, and eto learns from his kindness. a mutual healing process ("ipsen this is the second time you've talked about a canon divergence etoken mutual healing process fic" and i'll fucking doing a third time now shut up)
definitely not already working on this nope
alternative dragon arc
third time etoken mutual healing process fic btw
in which kaneki's dragon kagune completely disappears once he's cut out of it (so no dragon orphans), but at the cost of most of his loved ones (anteiku squad, touka, etc.)
also furuta gets eaten by him bc he should have done that and idk why he wasn't eaten at that point. need to really hammer in the sort of indiscriminate slaughterhouse monster the dragon kakuja was; a real "everyone loses" kind of moment
some people live. like hinami. i would never kill hinami
the V and clown stuff from canon take place while he’s being excavated. this is mainly so that eto gets free.
the fic takes place some time after the fighting settles down, and people are trying to piece their lives back together.
kaneki is a huge source of controversy, and to placate the public so they can all focus on rebuilding, he's placed in cochlea again, where he meets eto again, who has lost her memories.
kaneki faces the consequences of his actions: the fic
