But also the way that she doesn’t revoke the power of her traumatizers (to my memory); unlike Henry, she doesn’t say “he was just a man”. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t have anywhere to shift the blame like Henry does to El.

But ALSO the way that both she and Henry use information about Mama they provided or reminded to encourage her anger-driven powers.

Also the way she can’t locate people with her mind, likely because that training didn’t start until after Henry went missing, but also of note that she seems then to not be able to enter people’s minds like Henry either.

AND the way she almost definitely does not know what he became (I say became not turned out to be. because in that abusive environment, I would argue that it was not inevitable or completely of his nature)

“Shiiiiiit Harrington, you didn’t tell me you were loaded.”

“Not really a Harrington am I?” He rolls his eyes, crossing his arms.

“We have no last names, we have no masters. We belong to no one.” Her hand falls on his shoulder, her words grave and well worn. Recited and repeated ad nauseam. A good luck charm and an oath. “Just Steve.”

A smile creased his features, reaching up to lightly squeeze her hand. “And Kali.”

She returned the smile, however small.

“Well, Harrington or no, these rich fuckers look like they could afford some redecorating.” Axel pushed a vase off the fireplace, braying with a hyena’s laughter.

He watched as the precious porcelain shattered against the tile. Steve had been the first to clear the house, checking for signs of life, signs of trouble.

Or so he’d told them. Kali knew though, because she always knew him best. She had shaken her head at him, but said nothing.

She didn’t have to—her eyes said it all: there is nothing for you here.

In the end, she was right, just like she always was.

He had scoured the halls searching for any scrap of his past life. Maybe they had been missing him all this time, kept his baby room the same as it was, blue checkered walls thick with his mother’s perfume.

But there was nothing.

There were no portraits of a chubby baby boy, no treasured stuffed animals, or commemoration of his first steps.

Nothing.

I’m nothing.

The thought made something ache in his chest. So with a smile, rough and with too much teeth, he barked out, “Yeah. There’s nothing here those assholes can’t replace.”

I think it was because he was abused or something and apparently had drinking problems? Like bruh you cannot claim to use subversion of 80s horror genre tropes and at the same breath make your black character one of the victims without even focusing on it. Its just...? St can really use some criticism sometimes

Yep it was because he had drinking problems and was a disgrace to his family as per the voiceover that Patrick and we hear as he's riding in the car with Jason n the gang. And then Lucas mentions that he once saw him with a black eye. That's it. That's all.

Patrick deserved way better. Even discounting the fact that he's black. The same episode had the stupid mid air fight between Murray Yuri and Jim's girlfriend. That lasted longer than necessary. That existed. Both valid reasons for having a more fleshed out buildup to THE MOTHERFUCKING SACRIFICE FOR ONE OF THE FOUR (NOT FOURTEEN) GATES.

Maybe if they cooled it on Eleven slow jogging through the lab, eyes wide, breathing heavily and emoting nothingly, Jopper doomsday fucking, Elmike/Mileven, (God stop milking it, it's not great writing, we are gaslighting ourselves to believe it is cuz there was a time we thought the most they'd do for gay Will is have his best friend say something INCREDIBLY HOMOPHOBIC to him), a Russian plot sillier than season 3's - fucking talent, I could go on we could've had something justifying (at the risk of sounding repetitive) A MOTHERFUCKING SACRIFICE FOR ONE OF THE FOUR (NOT FOURTEEN) GATES.

I'm not American so I'm not someone who gets the whole American experience of it. But American cultural colonisation means I'm somewhat aware of the tendencies in media. N to me personally I don't resonate with a white/black/brown American character on a racial level but just by how they're written n how well the work is performed. I do not live in a post racial world bt my country has its own different version of racism. That is to say any character being white/other colour is of ZERO value to me. So when I am consuming foreign media, I'll be like this is well written that is not. But then when I arrange them in order of well written to not or underwritten, it's a shade card alright. (🙋🏻🙆🏼🙅🏽🤷🏾🤦🏿) So ya. It's like white ppl tend to write white ppl better. What a discovery. Idk if to call it racist or "I don't see colour" in that I only see white cuz it is not a colour. (How is that for colour theory?) That is NOT to say that X CANNOT at all write about Y. Writing is after all a collaborative effort. It just means you gotta do both: collaborate and put effort.

ST exploits the tropes more than / before it subverts them. And like not in a good way. It's a fantastic show with plenty of opportunity to love it and shit on it in unequal measure tipping more in favour of shitting. And I'll be doing both. Especially regarding the characters that don't go by the name of Mike or Eleven. But them too.

You'll also see me Kali raging soon. Very soon. She might also be (DEFINITELY IS) why I have this whole new account anyway.

El's abuse > Kali's abuse. Okay. At least accepted within text by the writers. Want the "yass girlboss El shoulda snapped Angela's neck for....er...breaking your diorama and ....er......throwing milkshake on you" crowd to respectfully go. Just go. Go Away!

Yet another reason why Kali needs to come back

Kali's arc is half baked, which I'll never shut up about. We established her morals, she was sad to see El leave, neither of them gets ANY type of closure, and Kali doesn't go through any change despite having an entire episode dedicated to her. The fact there's business left with her is the reason we need her back. She ALSO has alot of backstory the show hasn't covered- so I'm here with my little tinfoil hat theory of Kali's real role at the lab.

Let's start of with some of the facts:

Kali's canon age in S2 is 20, El at the time is 12. They are 8 years apart. (I think a lot of people don't know this, but it's a universal answer wherever I checked)

in the flashback of s2, Kali and El have long hair, regular clothes, and are in a different rainbow room which is not in a hospital- like area.

in the same flashback, Kali and El appear the same age. They are playing together, unlike in the other version of the facility. We don't see any other kids near El or Kali.

since Henry/Vecna/001 uses "while 008 was still here" as a marker of time in S4, it's reasonable to assume the policies on hair and clothes, as well as the building's layout changed in response to Kali's disappearance.

Kali doesn't have telekinesis, telepathy, or electromanipulaton like ALL the other kids do(as we see those are all important to their training) she was born with pets in London, and presumably chosen and kidnapped (and targeted twice) because of her own power of illusion, something of V/H/1's that we don't see replicated in any other number.

Which is where my theory comes in:

Kali was twelve while El was 4(the age they both appear imo in the flashback) this could mean that she was "telling" El to see her as a 4yo as well as anyone around at the time.

I think one possible reason for this is that Brenner wanted her to. Brenner is scared of the telekinetic, but he's also studying them. Two teekinetics in the same room as eachother would be dangerous, so using Kali would be a way to see the kids interact while at ease around someone "their age" who was similar and friendly, but who wouldn't both be able to punch out the eyes of two security guardseach.

Kali is even seen to be held at a clearly higher standard than El bc she was electrocuted, a punishment we only see shared by V/H/1, an employee who interfered with Brenner's plan, and 002, someone who at the time had failed to do Brenner a service (killing El). While it's possible that this was generally common in the Hawkins Lab Facility, these are when we see it, so it is reasonable to draw the conclusion that they're similar. V/H/1, 002, and Kali were punished the same way for the same reason: they were meant to carry out a purpose. Not only as test subjects, but they each had a task as well.

After Kali left for good, that's when it seems the policies changed. Brenner needed a new way to keep the kids seperate now that they couldn't always be physically seperate. That's why in the newer rainbow room, kids are never playing together (the exception being competitive games, which also seemed less popular imo, not to mention we see Brenner pitting them against eachother). These weren't the kids specifically chosen to watch others like Kali and 002 were, so they weren't acting like friends. Brenner didn't want someone back who would refuse her job or kill him or convince a kid to. Kali's job was important enough to seek her out from London, but it's(her job's) goal could be achieved in other ways

Kali was sought out specifically for her illusion powers in order to keep watch on the other kids and show them to interact with other kids but not eachother. Her absence was the reason for the policy changes that we see by the time El is 8yo.

All together, the sketchy situation on its own even without my theory being true means there's so much of Kali's backstory we don't discover in canon so far. Combine that with the fact that she and El never get closure for how they left things off, and nothing makes more sense than a Kali reappearance in s5.

someone pointed out that el kept the baby mask from season two! it’s right behind her in the scene where her and mike are fighting. that means they haven’t forgotten kali altogether, and perhaps we haven’t seen the last of her :)

Guy (me) who would go insane for more HNL Henry/Edward-El memories in ST5. I so badly want to see Terry's version of the rainbow room with Kali, El...and Henry/Edward. He knew what went down with Terry. He knew Kali. He knew that El knew Kali. He knew that Terry called El by her birth name. We can see the shadow of the object, we just can't see the object itself...

I also want to see Kali's escape. I need to know what went down, because it's implied that Henry/Edward had some kind of hand in it. The man goes from "👁👁 this would have been when 008 was still here 🫢" to "okay so 👁👁 we're breaking you out, and here's how we do it 🤫".

Henry...Edward...my boys...this isn't your first rodeo, is it? And it probably would have worked, too, if Soteria had stayed in place. It doesn't seem like anyone cared until after the chip had been taken out.

Off topic slightly, but it still drives me insane how not-sneaky the whole thing was. El and Henry/Edward were always out there looking directly at the security cameras and hanging out together when none of the other orderlies talked to the kids...and yet Brenner still...let it continue? Brenner isn't stupid, he knew something was up with El and Henry/Edward.

The words blurred in his vision, unable to read the words before him.

They were gone.

They were gone, and he was alone.

Again.

The warehouse felt even emptier than he remembered, no longer filled with Dottie and Axel’s maddened giggles, Funshine’s radio, and Mick’s gentle conversation. All that remained of the trio were kicked out chairs and folding tables, forgotten utensils and stained mattresses. Items that were inconsequential and of little value.

Just like him.

The crinkle of the paper in his hands echoed in the silence--there was nothing there to soak it up. Kali’s explanation for leaving made sense. Everything that had gone down in Hawkins, and their return trip to Pittsburgh had put too much heat on them. It wasn’t safe to stay any longer, wasn’t smart to  remain in one place any longer than they had to.

Steve understood---really, he did.

But why didn’t they wait for me?

His hands began to tremble, vision swimming with the threat of unshed tears.

It was stupid--they’d clearly been long gone when he got back. The stained mattress on the floor reeked of mildew and the damp, and Axel’s favorite mug had grown it’s own science experiment. It didn’t matter if he’d gotten back a day, a week, a month before.

When Steve didn’t leave with them, when he decided to linger in Hawkins, that had been the line drawn in the sand. They were never going to wait for him, and he would always end up here.

He belonged to nobody.

Sound ricocheted off the metal walls, of flesh against stone, anguish and grief stitched together in one agonized sob. 

It was only until he felt something wet hit his hands, did he realize the full force of his grief. For the first time in years, he was crying.

Big fat tears were soaking his cheeks, burning his scraped and bloodied knuckles as they landed.  And he couldn’t stop.

A dam had burst, and he was sitting in a dirty warehouse, cradling his head and on his knees like a child. 

I’m nobody.

My toxic trait is thinking- no knowing that Kali and Henry would have been the most insane duo, like imagine if Henry got out of the lab and the two found each other again Henry would have been so about tracking down people who hurt them and giving them painful ends. I could write a whole big proper analysis on it but I can’t be bothered lately so you’re gonna get this much smaller, lamer post instead but I think so much about these two and how similar they are and the fact that Kail was literally just the non-upside-downifed version of Henry.  Also, has anyone ever looked into the goddess Kali is named after? The black goddess with multiple arms, likening her to a spider, who, in mythology, went ape shit and nearly destroyed the world, the goddess who symbolizes things such as “ultimate power, time, destruction and change” and how that actually relates to Henry/Vecna? Anyone ever thought about any of that because I have. Anyway I’m just saying Henry and Kali would have been PALS. Hell. Perhaps even Vecna and Kali could be pals. I would love to see if they ever visit her again in S5 and what relation she could have to him and her thoughts on the events transpiring.

A 001 and MKUltra project (funny) fan theory

Ok, now that I firmly believe that 001 is Eleven´s father (more info about that here and here), I was just thinking about some questions that have not been (yet) answered. I remind that this is just a fan theory and having some fun... Oh, and there will be Stranger Things SPOILERS (and a long post, probably) ahead:

Well, we know these facts and dates:

1947: Henry Creel is born

1951: Terry Ives is born

1959: Dr. Brenner obtains Henry Creel (after he killed all his family but his father) for his MKUltra Project, creating the subject 001

1964: Kali Prasad/008 is born

1969: Terry Ives joins MKUltra Project

1971: Jane Ives/Eleven is born

1977: Terry Ives tries to get Eleven/Jane from the lab, without success. Brenner orders electroshock to her until her brain is fried. 

1979: 001 and 011/Eleven try to run away from the lab. 001 kills all the other subjects (but Eleven, who finally defeats and sends him to the Upside Down).

So I have some questions regarding all this information... Questions I think have not been answered:

1. Why and when was Soteria (the chip which weakens and monitorizes him) implanted in 001?

2. Why is such a time space between 001 and 002 ages? 002 is a teenager at most in 1979, while 001 is 33. All the other subjects from 002 don´t have such difference in ages (but why aren´t there other babies like Eleven when she was kidnapped into the project?)....

3. Why Dr. Brenner wanted Eleven since the very moment she was born? He took the risks of kidnapping a baby (and he was sued for that) without being really sure that she would be THAT powerful (and Eleven was, in fact, one of the less powerful children at first glance). But Brenner (and 001) did not think so... why? Did they know something?

4. Apparently, only Terry Ives sued Dr. Brenner for kidnapping her child... But what about the other parents of the other subjects? Kidnapping a new born baby is something really risky and (I think?) not that easy thing to do (new born babies are usually in hospitals and monitorized, after all)... Are you telling me that Dr. Brenner and his team were from 1965 (lets say that 002 is 15 at most in 1979) to 1975 (the last subject in 1979 was 5 at most) kidnapping babies around the world without being noticed??? Apparently, Kali/008 was kidnapped when she was 5 in 1969, but (I think?) this is written in Suspicious Minds book, which although official is susceptible of being retconned (similar to Star Wars or Doctor Who books and other franchises). So I take this with a grain of salt.

5. Why Vecna/001, who is trying to catch Eleven´s attention and knew who her mother was, did not attack Terry Ives? She is also a really easy victim, because she is already trapped into her own trauma... Perhaps because she is not in Hawkins or for other motives?

I think MKUltra project passed through different stages, and Brenner and his team were changing the main subjects, methodology and probably purposes as time passed. Having all these facts on check, I think he began his project having in mind the possibility that some people were born with powers (like the true MK Ultra Project...). Then Henry Creel, 12 years old, made an appearance in all his glory after killing his family. Perfect oportunity for Dr. Brenner. So he gained Henry´s custody and transformed him in 001, his main subject.

As 001 “cooperated” with MKUltra project, Brenner did not feel the necessity of obtaining other subjects (Henry is considered the most powerful of them all, after all). But something happened that 001 revealed (or tried to scape from) Dr. Brenner. What could be?

Then Terry Ives, 18 years old, enters in scene. She (and others, including men) volunteered for MKUltra project in 1969 (photo below.. and yeah, there were men): 

Why, if Terry Ives (who also had powers) and others were participants of the MKUltra project in 1969, did not receive a code number, like 001? Because around that time the main subject of the project was still 001 and he was still under Dr. Brenner´s control. And because Ives and the other volunteers were also clearly adults (but we don´t see other adults, but 001, in the MKUltra Project in 1979). So the main subjects of the project in 1969 were apparently not children (yet), cause 002 (who would have been born at that time) did not recognize Peter Ballard as 001 in 1979 (and I don´t know about Kali, cause she was not around in 1979, but 001 did know her... The most logical thought would be that she did not know him because 002, 003... and so on also didn´t -and Papa had told them that he was dead-).

Ok, so we are in 1969 and we have 001 as the main subject of the program and a bunch of volunteers, clearly grown ups men and women. There are three possibilities here, IMO, having in mind that:

- 001 tells 011 that Papa tried to control him, and because he couldn´t, then he tried to recreate him... He could mean this in a literal or simbolic way. So 001 confronted Brenner in some way (we still don´t know how, do we?) and then Soteria was implanted in him/his co-worker in the lab persona was created. This should have happened before 002 entered on scene. 

So:

1- 001 revealed versus Papa BEFORE 1969 (but I don´t know how this could be relevant to Stranger Things plot at this point -we have only one season left-... I mean, why would I want to know more about a creepy guy who has killed children -and Max...- and has just recently appeared if he is not related to somebody from the main cast??). Brenner implanted the Soteria inside him, began to kidnap other children with powers around the world (because 001 was almost useless then), some adults volunteered into the program (for what, if you have the more maleable children at your dispose? No idea...) and Terry Ives became pregnant during this, Eleven was born. And that´s it. This would be the easiest (and most probably, really) way, but would not answer all the questions and some attitudes then would seem weird or forced to me.

2-  All the volunteers adults were transfused with 001´s blood/DNA/sperm/whatever, as Brenner was trying to recreate 001 after he had lost control over him (before 1969)... But this is suspicious, cause there were also men... Because of that, and the fact that there were various children subjects that were clearly not caucasian (and the Kali/008 case), I would discard the insemmination/DNA theory. But then, why the age difference between 001 and the others and the “When Papa finally realized that he could not control me, he tried to recreat me”?? 

3- 001, 22 years old, was still the main subject in 1969 and Brenner and his team were trying to do more research between consensual adults (that´s still unethical, but a lot less so that kidnapping children... And Henry Creel was not exactly kidnapped, by the way). Terry Ives came into the program and she met 001, they felt some attraction (uh, that´s possible... psychopaths have families even in real life) and she became pregnant in 1970. And here would come the moment when Papa lost control over 001: he (and Terry, obviously) knew that she was pregnant, they tried to run away from the lab... but they were caught. And then Soteria was implanted into 001, he began to work more like an officer in the lab and Terry Ives was still forced into the project until she almost ended her pregnancy, then Brenner kidnapped the new born baby (knowing who she was since the beginning, obviously). And then he and his team decided that it was better and more secure to kidnap other children (born between 1965-1975), who had already given proof of having powers. 

Point 3 could also make references to some 1970s cult movies such as Badlands (1973), Logan´s Run (1976) or heck, even The Terminator (1984). This and also point 2 would make an homage to Firestarter (1984) and, of course, The Empire Strikes Back (1980)...

Lastly, I have not read Suspicious Minds, but even if they finally decide to make all of this canon, it´s still possible for 001 to be Eleven´s father. If the information I have recollected is correct, Terry Ive´s boyfriend Andrew Rich was sent to Vietnam War in May 1970... and Eleven was born in June 1971. If my maths don´t go wrong, those are more than 9 months (perfectly on time for Terry finding consolation with somebody else hehehehehe..). 

Seriously, what a weird thing to say for a guy who has been pretty much in a lab since he was 12... Unless he REALLY meant that (he looked stressed as he said that line): his monotonous living in the lab (wake up, eat, sleep), then meeting Terry and impregnating her (reproduce) and finally getting caught and implanted with Soteria/being Peter Ballard (and die...).
