Thank you! Midnight Oil is definitely my Baby, and it means a lot to me when people respond positively to it. There's just. There's so much going on in it. We go from Newsies to a murder mystery to How To Be A Thief 101 to a prison break to Baby's First Murder to making a deal with a demon (kinda.) And that's just the first 60k. It is such a wild ride from beginning to (the yet unseen) end and I'm so glad that so many people have come along for the journey, it's always a highlight of my day to see people's reactions to it.

I was thinking that it was crazy that the Gukgaks didn't get any kind of financial assistance - including money for post-secondary education - from the government after Pok's death, given his successful track record and dying in the line of duty.

And then I remembered that Kalina pulled strings to get Pok on a list of enemies of the state right before his death which would probably be the equivalent of a dishonorable discharge, and revoke any of that assistance that would have come otherwise.

So it's another thing Kalina took from Riz, besides his father - his chance at college, without running himself into the ground to get there.

You know who I think would be a great follower for Cassandra? Sir Davin, the knight from the Order of the Sacred Scroll. He is so devoted, and he does not peek. "For 1500 years, the Order of the Sacred Scroll has guarded this mystery beyond mysteries." Like, the mission of his order is completed. he is free, and he is moving on to a life of peace. He does not need to be super active in proselytizing. But he seems to be a person who is able to appreciate and coexist with mystery without needing to discover the answers to those mysteries for himself.
