He’s a total sap

As well as anxious, yanno, so if his partner wanted/needed reassurance during his absence(s), then he’d def empathize w/ them and attempt to barrage them—daily—w/ letters

Buuut he’s also got a lot to process what w/ his consistent state of panic and trying to stay alive

So despite his intent, he often forgets to uhh, barrage you—daily—w/ letters 😅

Thus, you don’t really have any way of anticipating/preparing for him

“[y/n]-chan? I’m hooome,” he shouts again, eyes narrowing at your lack of response

He knows you can protect yourself, knows you might not even be home, but damn it I miss you, “Where are you? [y/n]-chaaan!”

Cold dread sets in when he realizes

Whenever either of you are away for an extended duration, whoever’s home always leaves a note when they go out — just so the other knows not to worry if they return in that gap of going out

There is no note

He can hear someone’s heart beating

Slowly

Too slowly

“[y/n]?!” his voice reverberates harder

The fear in his veins isn’t shocking or thrilling; doesn’t have the same anger or determination as slaying demons; isn’t something he can be coerced, shamed, or inspired into tackling head on

It’s a desperate, treacherous, fogging suffocation

He’s never cared about being on time—about being late—until now

Surely there’d be some semblance of carnage if they’d been attacked ?!

He knows you don’t go down easily, and certainly not cleanly

So Why are the walls intact? he’s running, a soundless pace in case evil—the demon—lingers

And Where is the blood? he swallows nauseously

Who the fuck’s alive?

There aren’t many rooms to scout, the faint pulsation guiding him swiftly toward the bedroom

How cruel he sucks in a sharp breath Sacrilegious

Welcoming the sunrise: soft giggles, fingers intertwined; his eyes open just wide enough to appreciate how effervescent you look caressed by morning’s glow; What’re you staring at, Zeni? “Everything.”

Eating on the futon: you scolding him as he gets crumbs on the kakebuton, him teasing you when you inevitably do the same; piling the dishes haphazardly on the floor soon after; tucking yourself into him for post lunchtime cuddles

Screaming into consciousness: sometimes you, sometimes him; grabbing onto the nearest physical tether, wordless dampness spreading; barely visible, drowning in the presence of moonlight; It wasn’t real, shh, it wasn’t real “And you?” I’m real “Promise?” Promise, I’m real. I’m right here

He slams into the bedroom, hand on his katana’s hilt, eyes darting frantically

ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?!?!?! 😵‍💫🤬🤯

“Zeni, you’re home,” you mumble, three quarters asleep, one eye gazing blearily at his disheveled form, “C’mere, kept your side warm.”

“YOUR HEARTBEAT.”

You wince at his volume, tiredness dissipating slightly, “Hm?”

“WHY WAS IT SO SLOOOWWW ?!?!?!” 😭

“Mmm, dunno, am zzz, less whine, more snuggle,” you shrug, lifting the kakebuton, entirely oblivious to the tension draining from his stance

Bruuuh Zenitsu’s FUMING rn

Like, you have the audacity to point out his whining when hE THOUGHT YOU WERE SRSLY INJURED/DEAD ?! 💀

*sigh*

“Fine, don’t snug-”

Zenitsu promptly plops himself onto the futon, interrupting you

“Sword,” you grunt

*double sigh*

Zenitsu places his sword beside the futon, crawls under the kakebuton, and clings to your sleepiness: hands molding to your collarbones, elbows, ribs, hips, thighs — checking the small of your back

“What’s gotten into you?” you mutter fondly, your fingers carding through his surprisingly sweaty hair

“I love you,” he whispers

With an endeared chuckle, you kiss his forehead, humming in agreement, “Love you too, Zeni. Must be tired, yeah? S’okay, you’re home. Rest.”

“Alright, [y/n]-chan,” he nods into your shoulder, hands settling on your chest, relinquishing the final sliver of adrenaline from his anticlimactic discovery, yawning, “Rest.”

I usually hc Inosuke to be a himbo 😇

He def does not announce his arrival, bc that would ruin the opportunity to scare the crap out of you 😈

Tbf, I don’t think he schemes anything elaborate

He’s still a himbo, so he certainly wouldn’t wake you up via scaring

Neglecting to consider that, if there’s one place you have an equal advantage of awareness/sense in, it’d be the house that y’all share

So you’re able to shadow him w/o him ever connecting the dots

Until it’s too late 🤭

—Bc I feel that keyboard smashing accurately represents his curdling scream 😂

“YOU!” Inosuke jabs an accusatory finger at your forehead, “YOU AREN’T HOME ?!?!?!”

You raise an amused eyebrow

“Nonono, like, you’re home, bUT YOU’RE NOT HOME?!” he’s simultaneously facepalming, willing himself to shut up, and attempting to even out his breath quietly

Ofc, you aren’t fooled in the slightest after his visceral reaction

“I missed you,” you grin triumphantly, thoroughly pleased w/ yourself

“You suck,” he growls

Huffing playfully, you roll your eyes, “Was just giving you a taste of your own medicine.”

“But I don’t ever scare you ?!” 😒

Dayum — right into your trap

“You’re not wrong,” you smirk meanwhile, insert Inosuke’s face w/ that maths equation meme as he struggles to understand your double negative

“So it’s one to zero,” he scoffs, arms crossing, “I’m not giving up!”

“IT’S NOT A COMPETITION!”

“IT IS A COMPETITION !!!!!”

You begrudgingly tug Inosuke into a hug — a compromise and an indulgence

“Does this mean you surrender?” he mumbles into the crook of your neck, his hands grasping gently at your hips

“If it does, then you just reciprocated, so that would make this a tie,” you murmur

His grip tightens as he nips at your earlobe, glowering, “Never mind,” he closes his eyes, “You aren’t surrendering,” savoring your proximity, “And neither am I.”

ON THE OTHER HAND

If you don’t develop immunity to jump scares

Then Inosuke actually stops pretty soon after he starts

Yes, it’s hilarious how comically wide your eyes get

How you shriek so loudly that Inosuke swears he hears birds scattering

Your cheeks flushed, fingertips almost trembling, amusingly creative strings of curses aimed at his smug expression

100% the jump scare he was going for 🎯

But no, Inosuke doesn’t enjoy torturing you

Feels just as hurt, if not more, by the fear that flickers momentarily through your stare

So he silently vows to never prank—at least, to never jump scare—you again

Maaaybe he doesn’t tell you about his vow tho… just to keep you on your toes 😉

Tanjirou doesn’t intentionally have awful timing

He just perpetually seems to return home from missions at ass o’ clock in the morning ?? ⭐️🌙

Prob bc he rushes home as soon as possible

Bc: why wouldn’t he ??

Why would he extend his time spent w/o you ?????

Does it really matter if he gets back at midnight? 2am? 5am?

Regardless of the time: if he’s home, then he’s w/ you 💘

Tanjirou’s an absolute and utter sweetheart, so the first thing he always does is make sure the house is tidy

Not in a passive aggressive way !!!!!

In a he-wants-you-to-wake-up-to-a-comfy-cozy-neat-living-space way

He’s mastered the art of washing dishes practically noiselessly, sweeping’s pretty quiet, and he’s mindful to wait until his eyes adjust to the soft darkness of being indoors so he doesn’t accidentally knock over/trip on anything while putting away clutter

Buuut #plot twist 😁

You know that Tanjirou’s an absolute and utter sweetheart, so you rarely neglect dirty dishes, usually sweep before heading to bed, and keep clutter to a minimum whether he’s home or not

Bc damn it !!

Just as he feels that you deserve to wake up to an organized household; you feel that he deserves to return from missions w/o having to worry about even more work

—FYI: you both deserve the world 🥺

Not that he ever feels like he has to worry about the house, nor does he ever consider it work to do so

Sometimes you’ll leave him a plate to wash, or a random book to shelve

Bc you also understand that just as you derive joy and pleasure from getting to take care of him, he too derives joy and pleasure from getting to take care of you

“Thank you for finishing the dishes!” you’ll exclaim later, pecking his nose

“It was just one-” he’ll smile brightly, blushing at your adoration

But your gesture—thoughtfulness—never escapes him

The second thing

He always does is walk carefully, soundlessly, to the bedroom

I hc that Tanjirou strips before he lets himself in

Bc he knows how loud undressing can be — gosh forbid his katana slip and clatter to the floor !!

So he removes his outer layers, lays them in a folded pile, triple checks that he’s holding his katana securely obvi shouldn’t leave it completely unattended, and finally permits himself to enter the bedroom

There’s a high likelihood Tanjirou’s addicted to your scent

Specifically: your scent as you sleep

BUT NOT IN A WEIRD WAY ?? 😫

Like, you know that feeling of burying your face in your favorite blanket? Favorite pillow?

The scent of coming home?

Of melting into walls of familiarity? Of knowing precisely which floorboards creak? Or where all the stains on the carpets are? Of safety? Belonging?

—Important tangent: I recognize many ppl may not know that feeling

—And I don’t mean to be insensitive or ignorant to such a reality

Sure, Tanjirou’s grateful to be home

Physically in one piece, sheltered, breathing

And he’s grateful to be home

Emotionally

You are—your scent is—that feeling

Reassuring as spring’s floral notes; sweet as summer’s vibrant tang; promising as autumn’s complex palette; grounding as winter’s clarity

The third thing he always does (after putting his sword down lol) is tuck himself delicately, tenderly, around your inviting warmth

Unless you’re an extremely light sleeper, Tanjirou’s def able to snuggle into you w/o rousing you

If you hog the kakebuton, then that’s fine too, bc he runs hot anyway

Plus, you’re likely to shift subconsciously to accommodate the newfound ~obstacle, creating an opportunity for him to wiggle under the kakebuton ☺️

What he does from here depends on how exhausted he is

If he’s exhausted, then he conks out before he knows he’s conking out 😴

But that’s okay! Bc he’s made it home, and is contently spooning you

What more could he ask for ?? 🥰

If he’s not quite tired yet, then he talks to you in a hushed, affectionate tone

Will he tell you everything again when you’re actually awake?

There’s just something about talking to a loved one as they sleep that’s… calming? Soothing?

And, as secret implies

Tanjirou has no way of knowing that, when the roles are reversed, you talk to him too

He squeezes your hip, an involuntarily, gentle touch

The feeling of hopelessness au (kny au)

beware of my grammar incorrections and spellings.. enjoy some angsty stuff and bits of badass zen shhdhd

•This au doesn't follow the og canon story, some have major story changes and some arcs are just kept there untouched.

•Zenitsu is suffering an unknown illness like a terminal illness and he kept it a secret from everyone, that includes the kamaboko gang and anyone else but ofc some knew it (that's shinobu and maybe inosuke and nezuko)

•Idk like how he got the illness from either a powerful demon art or he was born with it or when he got struck by lightning (which totally don't make any sense hshshs)

•yes, this au has TanZen and with lots angst but tan and zen aren't together yet and also never will be cuz y'know */coughs

major character death-

•Tanjiro is oblivious of his feelings for Zenitsu but he slowly realizes them and he keeps questioning what is this feeling.. As for zen, though he is more oblivious, he thinks tanjiro likes kanao (but nah a only as a friend lmao) and he just kept his feelings to himself..

•The timeline is very messy asf but it goes like this, nothing changes with s1 and Mugen train arc. All i can say is that zens illness gets worse throughout the arcs till the fight with muzan also like to add that he fought Kaigaku earlier in this au and his gramps is uhh ye not very alive…

•But zen died cause of his illness and his injuries from the demon and ofc he killed the demon (we stan badass zen)

I'll probably make more stuff for this au cuz yes-

Don’t worry he gets a sugar crash later

All of you have to carry him inside when he passes out from the sugar

Hashira

They try to throw Giyuu into the fire or they’re screaming at him to start the fire

They leave Giyuu out of all of the activities

Except Snowball fights

They all gang up on him

You, Shinobu and Mitsuri make and decorates cookies

Uzui throws all of you in the snow because you’re shortys

Don’t worry Shinobu got his kneecaps

If Giyu is under the mistletoe everyone steers clear from the door or they make it mistlefoe and beat him up

There is No In-between

Hi! I love CFLDF so much! I have so many theories about where the characters are going and what their past is, I feel like I'm trying to piece together a mystery book. It's similar and different enough to canon that I can guess the major plot points and still be blown away! I really like the way you weave the characters and their relationships and how you make them feel like real people. Special highlights for me are Senjuro my favorite anxious mess, Nezuko my queen, and the rest of the thunder fam; Kaigaku (world's worst older brother), Zenitsu (he should have been at the club), Jigoro (crazy old man), and the honorable member Tanjiro (world's best older brother).

I'm also trying to write a role swap kny fic and I was wondering if you had some advice? If it isn't asking too much! I've had half finished versions of a first chapter sitting in my docs for months because I can't decide what direction to take the story 😔

I keep swinging back and forth between thunder breath! Nezuko (probably found by Mitsuri the stone pillar before she was sent to Kaigaku) (where Zenitsu fits in this au depends, sometimes he is a demon and others he is the world's equivalent of the butterfly girls) and moon breath! Nezuko (ft. Koku being the Tamayo of the world and teaching Nezuko); and I also alternate between having Tanjiro stick around like canon Nezuko or having the DK take him and Tanjiro forgetting all about his human life and Nezuko's mission being more about revenge before the grand reveal. And also, just for example, I can't decide if I want to have a Shinobu-Tomioka swap (Shinobu has a lot of dead relatives 🫤 and Giyuu is the medic always pretending he is not filled with untamable hatred) (Aoi is his tsuguko and Sabito is the dead brother lover), or a Doma-Shinobu swap or the flower sisters as the spider family. Or a Doma raises Inosuke and Kanao but they're still human and they infiltrate the corps for him sub plotline in between everything. Or, every member of the Kamaboko is working for the DK as demons and Nezuko's gang is just a bunch of minor (probably demon characters) and everything plays out fairly similar. Or a Shinazugawa and Rengoku brothers swap based on my mom's (an anime only) theory that the Shinazugawa brothers were experiments and that was why Sanemi was all scarred and Genya could eat demons.

Some of this can coexist but a good chunk of them can't and I'm not settling for anything. Like there's so many possibilities, and I was wondering if you had some advice on how to settle on something?

That’s awesome to hear that you’re writing your own role-swap! And I’d love to offer some advice. Feel free to take/use whatever you feel will help you best or ignore what you think you don’t need.

(Also I’m not an expert on writing this, so please, for anyone reading this, use what you’d like and know this is just my opinion on writing AUs for KNY.)

So, the first thing you should work out when planning a role-swap is WHAT KIND of role-swap you want to do. Based on what I’ve read, there are probably five different ways people have done Protagonist Nezuko Role-Swaps:

The Classic Swap - Tanjiro and Nezuko swap roles, but everything in canon (story and character-wise) remains the same

The Mentor Swap - Tanjiro and Nezuko swap roles, and a different Hashira/Demon Slayer takes them in (typically resulting in Nezuko learning a different breathing style); everything else in canon (story and character-wise) remains the same

The Hashira - Upper Moon Swap / The Human - Demon Swap - All members of the Hashira/Demon Slayer become Kizuki Demons and the Upper Moons/Kizuki become Hashira/Demon Slayer; can also be expanded into all humans being demons and vice versa too

The Character/Role-Swap - A specific character has their backstory (and at times, personality) swapped with that of another character (Ex: Rengoku - Shinazugawa, or Tomioka - Sabito)

The Customized Swap - May use a combination of some or all of the above swaps, or just take the story in a different direction (Ex: Tanjiro and Nezuko being separated for a majority of the story, or simply giving characters a new role without giving them a clear/strict “swap”)

Once you decide which one to do, I suggest “working from the inside out” when planning the rest of your Swap AU. This is more for the last three swaps but can be used for the others depending on how much you change.

Start with the characters you KNOW you want to swap (whether it be members of the Kamaboko Squad, the demon “defecting” from the Demon King, or the Hashira). Once you have those figured out, you can start filling in the blanks. It might take a little time to come up with, but whenever you have a thought, write it down and play around with the idea for a bit to see if it will fit with the story you are writing.

If it’s easier to start with the Kamaboko Squad, get everything you want figured out with them first. If it’s the hashira, have your line-up and see what details you can give them in the moment. If it’s the Demon King, come up with a basic idea for his/her appearance, personality, and motives. Start with what you know, and then move on from there.

Once you’ve figured out most of your characters, then look into how you’re going to develop the story. Will you be following the canon events exactly as they happened in the manga/anime? Will some events be rearranged? Added/Removed?

I recommend creating a rough (and I cannot express this enough, ROUGH) timeline of how your story’s main events will unfold, and then walking your characters through them. See if it makes sense, and take note if you find areas where you might need to revise things or add another scene.

And as a final piece of advice, read a few role-swaps and see what you like. I know before I even started writing the first chapter of this story, I read through a lot and found a few favorites that gave me inspiration for concepts such as potential swaps, different ways to explore characters/events/themes, and how to handle changing what’s canon without taking away what made it good in the first place. Have fun with your research, and you’ll slowly start to see things come together!

(Manga Spoilers Ahead)

Now, to address some of the ideas you have…

I'd go with whatever breath-style you feel most confident writing Nezuko in. I know writing her as a thunder breather can be a bit tricky since we only see Zenitsu perform the first form in canon and Kaigaku’s version of the other forms are influenced by his blood demon art, I do think it’s one of the best breathing styles to play to her strengths. But I’ve never read a story with her as a moon breather, and that could definitely open a lot of segways into different storytellings (especially if you decide to go the Human - Demon swap route). Plus, having Kokushibo in a different role other than Upper Moon One or a Hashira could be a fun storyline to explore that would definitely catch some attention.

This is also a very interesting idea that could really set the story apart. Kind of like what I said above, I’d say go with what you’re most confident writing. Having Tanjiro stick with Nezuko is one way of keeping the story close to canon, and I think there’s a lot of popularity/meaning in having their strong sibling bond emphasized as they navigate the world of demons together. But having Tanjiro separated from Nezuko makes a lot of sense as well, considering their heritage and how the DK (if they are different from Muzan) may want to take advantage of a descendant of sun-breathing being a demon. That would probably change the story a lot, but if you have a plan for how you will navigate the split POVs and how their characters will be affected by the separation and development of their ideals, then I think that would be a fun route to go and lead to a lot of awesome content.

I can definitely see Tomioka and Shinobu swapping. I’d be curious to know how much of their personalities would change as a result (such as Shinobu being more open with her feisty attitude or being more subdued like canon Tomioka, and then Tomioka being like you said having some hidden anger).

I think any of the Doma swaps would be fantastic ideas to implement. Especially the one with Kanao and Inosuke being spies infiltrating the Corps! I don’t think I’ve heard of anything like that before, and given the amount of development that could bring about, and how much of a twist/shock that would be for their “allies” with their reveal, that would be such a great plotline to include.

I’d love to see more of the minor demons that were killed off early in the series get bigger roles! I think it boils down to what I mentioned in the first part of the post, and deciding what the exact parameters of your story’s swaps will be. If you do go this route, I’d be excited to see what other backstories the other demons/humans will get.

I think switching the Rengoku and Shinazugawa brothers would definitely be a cool idea! Especially given how they share a lot of similarities, like how the older brothers would do anything to give their younger siblings a better, happy life. And that’s actually a really interesting theory your mom came up with! I think that would be such a cool idea for an alternative backstory for Sanemi and Genya, given how unique their abilities and conditions are (Sanemi having incredibly strong marechi blood and Genya being able to eat demons and gain some of their strength).

Ultimately, have fun with it. If you’re having trouble deciding, try and write out rough story outlines for your ideas and characters and see what works best. Or, just pick the one you’re most excited about. After all, it’s your story, and as I’ve found, if you’re really passionate and excited about a certain idea or swap, the planning and writing comes so much easier.

It's official. Your Rot Monster AU has successfully wormed its way into my brain and it's not leaving. Hope you don't mind more questions:

How did the Kamaboko Squad meet up in this AU, if at all? What kind of hijinks do they get into?

Can we get more backstory on the Shinazugawa brothers? How do an angel and demon end up as brothers? (I remember you saying that Sameni was selected to be an angel, but what about Genya?)

What's Muzan up to in this AU? I imagine similar bullshit as canon, but the existence of more monsters makes my mind go to darker places.

What are humans up to in this AU? I've snippets mentioning them, but nothing really concrete. Are the Ubuyashikis human, still running the Demon Slayer Corps?

I'll probably have more questions later.

(P.S. I have a fic for this AU in my WIP. Have no idea if it'll ever be done, but who knows?)

I surely dont mind at all, im so happy others took interest in my au!

Hmm Tanjiro(Pheonix harpy), Nezuko(Corrupyed Pheonix harpy), Zenitsu(lung storm dragon) and Inosuke(either a boar troll or a boar faun) met the same way as in canon. Kanao(butterfly Fairy) was later introduced when the gang met the Angel rank (Sanemi, Shinobu and Gyomei tho Sanemi was missing, at this time he was long gone).

Genya was introduced once the gang was accepted and viewed as worthy in Sanemi’s eyes.

Hmm when the whole group is together, they usually do pretty tamed stuff. Most extreme stuff they’ve done is hunt not so powerful demons as a hunt game, they’re all pretty brutal creatures so they kill these demons in the most horrific ways possible.

Shinazugawa brothers, the angel cycle.

Sanemi was originally a dragon along with Genya. Angels are cherry picked by the corp, they get to decide who is worthy of such tittle since angels in this au are powerful warriors, battle machines and nothing more or less.

Sanemi was chosen to be an angel and was sent to the corp for training (like in the army! Once you’re recruited, they’ll take you to base to break you). When Sanemi came back from training, he found his family dead but luckily he wasn’t so late to save Genya but to his horror, Genya was feasting on their parents (who were infected with spores from a demon) and that made Genya turn into a dragon demon inmune to the spore’s mind control. //I’ll maybe get more in detail about this in the future.

Angels by default are demon slayers, they will destroy any corrupted being or malicious creature they come across but this was Genya, the only family he had left. So he kept him a secret in his temple. Sanemi raised his brother in secret from everyone until Kanae went to visit Sanemi with out consent, Genya thought it was Sanemi and the rest was a bloody mess.

Muzan

Hmm I have not yet settled anything for Muzan yet. I thought maybe Lucifer himself but very similar life style to the netflix series lucifer. Rich dude, very well known but not many know he is Muzan, the mf they after since he takes many form. But thats for now, we yet haven’t planned anything.

Humans

Humans are still present in this au. Very common actually, basically they’re just living their lives in villages snd being tormented by the monsters/creatures under Muzan’s hand.

But some have found certain creatures and considered them as gods, religious or worthy enough to offerings and gifts. Examples are Giyuu Tomioka(Water lung dragon), Douma(Kelpie) and Sabito(Forest/River Kitsune).

Also yes! The Ubuyashikis are still in control of the corps! They’re common humans but they’re honest and hard work has been respected and they’re all in debt with them (not in a bad way more like for example, Tomioka was taken under Urokodaki’s care which he was oart of the corp and Tomioka felt he owed the corp for their kindness)

If that made any senseee????? Tho Tomioka retires later on!

Zenitsu Agatsuma

Yeah this dude was already crying WAY before you were-

You loved him but he just got on your nerves sometimes. He wouldn’t listen to reason and it frustrated you to no end

So when you start to tear up he stops yelling and screaming for once, and is just silent staring at you. Cause usually he’s the one crying, not you

The argument ends in both of you just hugging and crying into each other until you calm down

Once he’s calmed he’ll finally listen to what you’re actually saying, which makes you feel a lot better as he nods and says he understands

Inosuke Hashibira

Confused as hell

Why were you crying?? You guys were just fighting?? Had he said something to hurt you?? Did you hate him??

He may be all rough and tough on the outside but he softens when he sees a tear roll down your cheek. You’re both very passionate people so when you guys do argue, it turns into yelling and he knows he can get pretty intimidating like that

So he’ll take off his boar head and stop arguing with you, and kinda just stand there like a kid getting scolded by their parent, having a guilty look on his face but not knowing what to say

Stiffens when you finally hug him as a sign of forgiveness, but then relaxes a bit and hugs you back harder

"Kito"

The name alone was enough to send a shiver down any person's back. The name behind the infamous "Kito-gumi". Headquartered in Shizuoka city, it boasts a high rank among the other yakuza gangs. And oddly enough a woman, Sakura Kito, runs this group as the head of Kito-gumi.

So what was a glass artist from the countryside doing staring straight at the Kito manor’s gate? Well, after fudging up his own teammate's gift to the other Shizuoka team member, Yano was ordered to bring a gift. A birthday gift to be exact. One from the pun-loving scientist and one from himself. A simple task… If walking into a den of predators is simple enough.

He'd only been to the estate a handful of times, being able to count each time on one hand. But even with that experience, he wasn't like Kensaku who could stroll into the gates blindly with a smile on his face! If anything, Yano's typical demeanor coming into the Kito-gumi property was in tears. Standing in front of the gate, he could just feel the emotions welling up just behind his eyelids.

'Maybe I can get away with dropping this by the door?' Glancing around, the artist tried to spot something akin to a mail slot or box to set his gift next to. Anything to get away without having to meet with Sakura face-to-face.

"Hey, you there."

As soon as the voice called, Yano was quick to drop the two bags he was holding and sprint away. With incoherent wails to not hurt the artist fading away, the two Kito-gumi underlings watched as the dust settled, cautiously moving forward to inspect the bags.

After some thorough investigation and a call from Kensaku Morimoto assuring there isn’t anything malicious in the bags, the gifts from the two Toyama team members were safely delivered to Sakura Kito. Neither of the gifts contained no letters, the only clue hinting at their purpose being the tags addressed to Sakura from each respective member.

From Kensaku, his bag contained two things. Some whisky, apparently produced in the Toyama territory, and then some… Kamaboko? Fish cakes, but they’re shaped into intricate designs that one doesn’t typically see in stores. And odd gift choice, but what else would one expect from the eccentric older man. According to the phone call from Kensaku which the underling relayed to Sakura, one of the whisky bottles is meant to be shared with Reika as an apology gift for missing her birthday.

Yano’s bag was much smaller. Wrapped carefully in tissue paper, the contents of the bag revealed a lacquered box, decorated with little cherry blossoms on the lid. Opening it revealed a pair of earrings with colored glass colored a dark black with intricate metal cones meant to dangle underneath. Tucked under the lid in front of the mirror, a slip of paper fluttered out. It read:

'Not a gag gift. Hope you like.'

Somewhere in Shizuoka…

Ring, ring!

“Sniff… Hello?” Sniffled Yano, having finally caught his breath running for who knows how long.

“So, I heard you ran away.”

Upon hearing the stern voice, Yano started to panic. “W-What the hell do you expect old man!? I don’t chill with yakuza guys!”

“It’s still rude of you to drop the gifts! What if you broke my whisky? Those weren’t cheap!”

“Like you have money problems.”

A moment of silence pierced the conversation before the scientist retorted back. “...Maybe I should let Reika know.”

“‘Bout what?”

“That you almost damaged my gift. Again.”

“H-Hey, no! DON’T YOU DARE-”

Beeeeeep…

Dejectedly, Yano stared at the screen of his cell phone, having seen that Kensaku had childishly hung up on him mid-sob. With a heavy sigh, Yano had to wonder, “...Haven’t I been through enough?”

“He did what?” Sakura laughed as one of her men explained the gifts she had received had been literally dropped off by one Yano Ietsuna. “I knew he was a bit of a coward but to run away like that! Hahaha!”

Sakura couldn't help but find Kensaku’s taste in gifts amusing. The kamaboko looked almost too good to eat but that wasn't going to stop the yakuza boss. Picking one up and taking a bite of it. Sakura savored the taste. She had always loved traditional foods. The whisky he had given her was nice as well making a mental note to hand Reika her bottle later. God knows she would drinking most of it by the end of the night. Her teammates especially Kanon made her want to pull her hair out sometimes. Sakura cared for the mad scientist she really did but parasitic flesh-eating bacteria? Yeah, that was a lot.

Sakura gently pulled out Yano’s gift and admired them. As much as she thought Yano a crybaby his craftsmanship was impeccable. Pulling out her current earrings Sakura switched them out for the ones Yano had given her. They were surprisingly light and she liked the more feminine vibe it gave her. It made Sakura wonder if she should start being nicer to Yano. Nah. Sakura took too much amusement in making him nearly piss his pants in fear. Suddenly an idea crossed Sakura’s mind.

“I wonder if I can bribe Kanon to go down to Yano’s shop and scare him?”

It's kind of given that Sanemi isn't the best at comforting people but he does try! He really does because he hates when those who are dear to him are upset.

First comes anger, cause who the fuck made you upset? Who did it? He'd ask you that over and over and over again.

He'd be sure to take care of the person who's wronged you if you do tell him. However, if his interrogation doesn't really work and upsets you more then he switches to something else.

He's not one for physical affection but he'd call you over and ask you to sit with him. There he'd slowly (and awkwardly) wrap his arms around you and comfort you with the soft patterns that he traces on your back.

He's fighting silent battles of his own. So, as you two sit there, pressed against each other in the warmest embrace he can give you, he says, "The world is a fucked up place but you make it better."

tomioka giyuu

Among all the others, Giyuu is the most confused. It's not that he doesn't know you're worried but it's just that he doesn't know what's making you worry and that worries him.

He doesn't stall or anything he just asks you, "What are you worrying about?"

He takes you on a walk and your voice fills his head. Once you two stop and sit somewhere, he'd grab your hand and let the pad of his thumb run along your knuckles. It's a gentle gesture followed by him squeezing your hand. A reassuring hold, the most tender gesture he can give you.

Sometimes he'd pick up something he likes and just show it to you. That's his way of telling you to cheer up.

There's one important thing that he wants you to know though. He sits with you, lays his hand on yours and says, 'It's not your fault. There are people who will be with you. I will be with you."

iguro obanai

Iguro's actually pretty quick to spot that you're worried about something. The moment he sees you he immediately asks about it.

Like Sanemi and Giyuu, he's not very good at comforting. He remembers a lot about you though so he brings those up in hopes to make you feel better.

"(y/n), you like this place, right? Do you want to go there?", "Oh, you like eating this? Do you want me to get you some?"

He also gives you gifts and makes sure they are personalized so that you know how much you mean to him.

When you two get home, he asks for you two to sit at the engawa and enjoy some tea and treats he's made himself. When he sees that you are still upset he asks you gently if you want to talk about it.

uzui tengen

Tengen is actually a really good listener. He's so focused on you that it almost looks like he's taking notes on a notebook.

He gives you the biggest pep talk of the century. There ain't noooo way you're going out there worried about what other people would think of you. They got nothin' on you!

Sometimes when your head is foggy with heavy thoughts, you need to get out of your house and see the world. Tengen is there for you to see the world. He takes you out to eat. He takes you shopping. He takes you to see shows.

He's also willing to give you a make-over.

Seeing what he's done with the Kamaboko gang, you tease him about his make-up skills and laughter ensues. He hopes that these lighthearted moments help you see that there's nothing to be worried about.

rengoku kyojuro

Kyojuro's booming voice comes to a stop when he sees you looking all worried. He guides you to a place where you can talk it out.

He holds both of your hands, leaning close and whispering his greeting. This is when you see just how sincere he is with the way he asks you what's wrong.

"If there's anything worrying you, I want to help you fix it." He's always ready to lend you a helping hand. He also thanks you when you share your worries with him. He tells you how brave you are for confronting them.

He'll cater to your every whim with little reservations. Hug? Of course! Want him to hold your hand on the way home? Yes, of course! Want to sleep in his estate and cuddle with him until your heavy thoughts drift away in his embrace? Count him in!

He kisses your cheek, the corner of your eye, your forehead, your hands! He wants you to know that he is there and hopefully, his affection lightens the weight on your shoulders.

HNK X KNY

I've just finished reading the latest chapter of Houseki no Kuni.

And... Damn, I've got a lot of feels right now. Anyway, on to the characters.

Kamado Tanjiro - Ruby

One of the younger Lustrous on the island. He and the Kamaboko Gang are Lustrous who are trained to protect their home and family from the Lunarians. He wielded the ability to use flames by channeling it into his sword, but due to this ability his sword often breaks, much to the rage of Haganezuka (Tiger Iron).

He raised Nezuko, who immediately considers him family when Tanjiro carries her to see the master. Unfortunately, she was lost during a Lunarian attack on her 130th cycle, making her one of the youngest Lustrous to be taken away to the Moon.

Kamado Nezuko - Fire Opal

A Lustrous with the unique ability to make fire that burns only Lunarians. The Lunarians that are born are incapable of regenerating on the Moon, and with Nezuko's ability it seems that the attacks will soon come to a stop one day. However, the day never came when the Lunarians targeted her during late evening.

She came back 1,000 cycles later, having lost all of her memories and abilities and becoming a white opal when the Lunarians experimented on her unique ability to 'pray' them away. Unbeknownst to them, Nezuko's fire didn't bring them salvation, instead condemning them to eternal punishment in Hell.

Agatsuma Zenitsu - Dravite Tourmaline

When using his abilities, his eyes, hair and nails turn yellow. He can generate electricity, and his main job when not on patrol is to do maintenance on the wires or any machines.

Due to his cowardly disposition, he never fights back then, but after Kaigaku (Schorl Tourmaline) was taken to the Moon, he took up his senior's mantel as a fighter.

Hashibira Inosuke - Labradorite

A mysterious Lustrous who, when being pushed to the Cord Shore, was fully cut. When asked how he came to be, he spoke of someone with the same face of him pushing him off a cliff. The master of the school commented that there might be another island with other Lustrous like them.

He has a strange fighting style, attacking with two swords and with a much lower stance like an animal.

Tsuyuri Kanao - Rose Quartz

Unlike the other Lustrous, Kanao came from the ground. She was found by Kanae and Shinobu (Purple Garnet and Pink Garnet) when she was digging herself out of the ground.

With the exception of the master, her sisters, Hashira and the Kamaboko Gang, the other Lustrous alienated her as she doesn't come from the Cord Shore.

Shinazugawa Genya - Ruby Zoisite

He has more purple than green. He was found on the same place when Sanemi (also a Ruby Zoisite) first appeared. Due to being the same type of Lustrous and the exact gem type, Genya and Sanemi are one of the few who doesn't worry about breaking each other. Their constant fist bumping scares the other Lustrous.

He always puts things in his mouth, curious when he sees animals eating. And each time he does that Shinobu needs to open him up to take it out because of the smell. Because of this, his torso can open like a door so it's easier to take said things out.
