Random Plot Idea (💕)

So! Ship Swap! Guess what plot bunny wriggled its way into my brain.

I got an idea for the Kamado family.

Here's my notes that led to this:

Tanjirou and Nezuko were kidnapped, then separated by Nezuko being bought into the Entertainment District. Neither of them have any memory of each other, or their lives prior to the separation, due to the trauma they both experienced and dealt with in their own ways.

Tanjurou is alive, having been away from the house when Muzan attacked. Because I think it'd be super sucky if Tanjirou and Nezuko reunite and go home... only to find out the rest of their entire family is dead. So Tanjurou lives, but is also grieving his 4 kids who got slaughtered, unsure if the eldest two are even alive after a decade of absolutely nothing to indicate that.

Muzan has sentient waypoints across Japan, probably keeping especially close tabs on Mount Kumotori, and he also has really bad Yoriichi PTSD. And Tanjurou is even more similar to Yoriichi than Tanjirou is, having the Transparent World and Selfless State on top of Sun Breathing mastery and the appearance.

So! What happens when you combine the man who's basically Yoriichi 2.0 with a nerfing, and the man who lives in eternal fear of Yoriichi 1.0 and attacks the Sun Breathing family, and later finds out he missed one(I mean, he technically missed 3, but he doesn't know about the other 2. Yet...)?

Bad things. Namely, Muzan sends someone to finish the job(because there's no way he's knowingly walking into that a**-beating after last time he faced a Sun Breather). And Tanjurou may be a boss, but he's also not armed with the sword that can kill demons. So, a Demon Slayer steps in, it's probably Giyuu wondering why the hell he got called back here. They comment on the sudden increase in demon attacks on Mount Kumotori, and suggest Tanjurou vacate the premises and go to a more secure location until they can find out WTF is going on.

Naturally, seeing as someone's clearly targeting the man and)or his home, they send Tanjurou to one of the two most secure locations in the Corps; the Ubuyashiki Mansion. Kagaya may not be the leader here, but that just means he's a man of chaos who can see the chaos he causes. So he mentions to Amane that the guy the Kakushi brought in(and Giyuu mentioned) looks freakishly like the Kochou Sisters' tsuguko. And then suggests they send their new guest to the Butterfly Mansion to double check for injuries.

Tanjurou gets there, and damn near has a heart attack at who he meets.

Their family's hair and eye colour aren't common. He can recognize who it is a mile away. It is his boy, his eldest son, still very much with a pulse and now carting around a sword.

And this is after Mount Natagumo, because I said so, so not long after, Papa Kamado sees his eldest daughter as well. And has a heart attack upon hearing she stabbed herself in the leg to get rid of demon spider venom. Someone please get the poor man some blood pressure meds.

Of course, it's been a decade since he's seen them, so he's a little unsure of how to handle this. Especially since he has no clue how they got here. Both of them seemed fine, and Kanao was there and showed no signs of distress. So what the heck? And neither of the kids are approaching him either, though Nezuko occasionally accompanies Kanao when the older girl comes to talk.

Eventually, he learns what little the Flower, Insect, and Sound Hashira can offer for info. And suddenly things make a lot more sense, even with only a little context.

KNY Rewatch

Episode 1 : Cruelty

Rewatching KNY from a different perspective, to focus on small details or understand dialogues I didn’t pay attention to much as a first time viewer.

Kamado Tanjiro yall… he is beyond being a 14 yo eldest son, he is already a man with the position he inherited unwillingly. The few minutes of daily Kamados life, showed us the beautiful and unique relationship of Tanjiro and his sibling.. To all to be wiped over night while he was peacefully sleeping..

When Tanjiro smelled the blood, he understood the crime scene immediately but he distant himself from reality to arrive snd see what he can fix. He was aware to check Nezuko and realise she is still alive to take her to the doctor while trying to process what happened

I am not an expert or an analyst, but man Tanjiro has more hinted characteristics than the typical shonen character.

↘ That day you were exploring the city, looking for fresh vegetables, so that you could later make a delicious dinner for yourself and your partner. As you walked around, you two talked about your recent achievements and missions, as well as victorious battles with demons. This day was unusually calm and full of sunshine; you loved moments like this, especially on your days off.

↘ While picking out the prettiest tomatoes and sweet potatoes, you heard a strange rustle to your right. You also smelled an unusual, very unpleasant smell (comparable to the smell of rot and old mud), and then heard sand rubbing against the soles of someone’s feet. Before you knew it, the body involuntarily moved towards Kyojuro, who was about to touch the fresh, earth-smelling carrots.

↘ With one quick and strong move, you knocked down a young demon in a black cloak, and then you touch his face, which was covered with a long hood. His screams and curses mixed with the sound of his burning skin were unpleasant, but at the same time incredibly calming. You didn’t hear anything suspicious in the vicinity, nor did you sense anything strange. Instead, you stood up and sheathed your katana, looking around carefully.

↘ Your partner thanked you and then apologized to the farmer he wanted to buy some goodies from. Without a word, you began to search every corner of the town, calming down the people you met and the crying children. It was a requirement after defeating the demon – it was necessary to check whether there was another, more dangerous threat.

↘ Your lunch unfortunately had to wait.

↘ You and Tanjurou were in the process of negotiating the price for the crops you harvested this year. You had one regular customer when it came to apples and pears. Thanks to them them that one of the inhabitants of the village was making delicious cider, i.e. alcohol based on these two fruits. You wanted to negotiate the most favorable price for yourself per kilogram of juicy goodness. 

↘ The man, however, stubbornly persisted in offering an extremely low (for you) price.

↘ You couldn’t agree to this, especially since you needed money to feed your family and also to save some extra coins for unexpected expenses such as medicine, new clothes and tools. So you asked a middle-aged man to think about your offer. 

↘ Still, he stubbornly stuck to his opinion and decision, cursing under his breath.

↘ So you have decided to give up trading at this point. You sincerely thanked for his precious time and offered other products, but the man suddenly got angry and started cursing your whole family and three generations ahead. Your husband tried to calm him down, but unsuccessfully. The forty-year-old almost immediately turned to your partner with the intention of grabbing him by the collar of his clothes, but you were two... No. You were hree times faster.

↘ You instantly grabbed his wrist and slammed it hard against the wooden table with red and green apples on it. You looked at the farmer angrily, getting him out of your property.

↘ You preferred to have no money and at the same time take care of your family in a different way than let yourself and the beloved man be humiliated for a few silver or gold coins.

↘ It was a beautiful night full of stars. You and Kagaya sat in blissful silence. Your eyes were closed and you both savored the taste of freshly brewed green tea.

↘ Words were not needed, you understood each other without them.

↘ From time to time you looked up at the stars and from time to time you closed your shining eyes again to indulge in blissful daydreams and a pleasant vision of the future.

↘ However, at some point, your peace of mind and beautiful sight of tomorrow were destroyed by the rustle of grass, almost inaudible to the human ear. You quickly threw away the steaming drink and covered your beloved man with your body, while noticing a crazy look in the moonlight.

↘ At first, you didn’t recognize the man charging in your direction, but after a moment of thought and knocking the intruder to the ground at the same time, you realized that it was one of the people who did not complete the Hashira training. You couldn’t remember his name exactly, but your perfect eye memory was right.

↘ A week ago, boy named Zenitsu became the Thunder Hashira, not a swordsman lying on the ground.

↘ So he probably saw it as an injustice or a mistake.

↘ Fortunately, your composure, quick reaction and almost superhuman strength defeated the young man who wanted to humiliate the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps in a frenzy. But you would never allow it.

↘ The dark-haired young man was quickly taken from the Ubuyashiki property by three kakushi, and you and your husband could once again enjoy delicious tea and silently think about what awaits your family, friends and charges.

The Corps couldn’t believe that this skinny frail looking man defeated the Demon King.

“Uh, I didn’t actually do anything and neither did that thing… That demon just screamed so loud and disintegrated away into ashes…”

“Seriously???”

“Yeah, he just shouted ‘Yoriichi?!’ and died from fear in front of my house.”

“Um ok…”

Tanjiro is legitimately confused that the Hashira and even most other lower ranking slayers are sending him loads of gifts compared to his father. His dad scared the Demon King into dying just because he looked eerily like Yoriichi, the founder of Breathing Styles who nearly killed Muzan!

The eldest son thinks that they’re doing this out of kindness for his family as a whole. But he accepts the pretty kimonos/haoris, hair ties/accessories, flowers and even exotic foods nonetheless. I bet the bedroom is becoming stuffed full of gifted boxes.

The Kamados will need to build an extra room, attic or basement lol.

Tanjurou’s lips is in a thin line and frowning a bit, not having his usual signature chill smile, “So you all want to date my eldest son?”

The Hashira are bowing and their heads are touching the ground despite shivering in nervousness, “Yessir!”

“Of course! We are serious about this!”

“Please give us a chance!”

…

Oh man, if Muzan died from his heart attacks, all demons will follow suit and die with him.

“What?! I’m disintegrating!!!”

“No no no! I don’t wanna die!”

“Aww shit We are all going to Hell…”

“Why did our boss still have that trauma of that man?”

Or maybe in a more merciful route they’ll convert back into their humanity (the ages they were transformed into) and age naturally. Though some of these demons turned humans will still commit crimes.

“I’m no longer powerful??”

“Huh? We are free from him?”

“I’m free? I’m free! I don’t have to be coworkers with a jerk like you anymore! Wooohooo!”

But maybe some of the less vile demons turned humans will find gratitude in whoever freed their curse and will genuinely redeem themselves.

Human Akaza/Hakuji ready to meet the person who finally defeated Muzan and therefore returned his humanity to him only to fall in love with his eldest son, Tanjirou.

The Pillars are having none of it.

Trytfullt, because I dont know how tumblr works or if you can see comment, there's a questions for the royalty AU. What would had been Ayame and Tanjirou's life had demon never showed up, add Nezuko's to that, waas she a bodyguard too or do the Kamado women had another role?

hiiii! honestly, i do see comments, but it does take me some time to reply in general. partly because of who i am as a person, but also because i'm on the + side of the gmt timezone, so i kinda have a weird sleeping schedule.

and i'm sorry i'm getting to this so late too!!! the last couple months have been hella hectic for me, but i've finally found some equilibrium uwu

anyway, some nezuko hcs for royalty au!

- this is probably odd for the time period, but the roles of the kamado women wouldn't be that far off from the role of the men

- it would be a spillover from the sengoku era, where fujiko was a demon hunter despite being a woman. i can see the kamados seeing that and emulating fujiko's strength in their daughters.

- i personally hc tanjurou as an only child, but i assume that if he had a younger siblings, they would have been takehiko's guard as well

- that being said, nezuko would have been ayame's guard if mimi-reikohime had never set foot in okutama. while she wasn't as trained in swordsmanship as tanjirou was in, er, royalty au canon (?), that was because tanjirou was assigned as ayame's guard from the time they were nine, which is when they officially start sword training with live steel

- nezuko has basic swordsmanship training since she's the eldest daughter. basically, only the eldest son and eldest daughter are the ones who have to take on the roles of guards. hanako might have been trained eventually though! but that would have been merely for her own (and misaki's) basic protection

- nezuko would have the unique position of being both ayame's guard and handmaiden tho. ayame's the first higuchi daughter born in centuries; the first hime from the higuchi line in generations.

by that time, the concept of handmaidens for the higuchi princesses would have long been lost in history. the higuchis, as kuge, are pretty self-sufficient all things considered. they have the forge, but it's more ceremonial than anything. not so much for knives and nails, but for ceremonial daggers - gifts for villagers that are getting married, have children born etc.

their blacksmithing would be more delicate as a result tho! but ayame wouldn't spend nearly as long in the forge as she did in fits canon. she had other lessons, naturally. horseback and archery would be some of them.

- nezuko would be awesome on horseback tho

as for tanyame...

- it would be unlikely they would become friends at thirteen years old. tanjirou is very bound to his duty, and his duty would have been exclusively to akihiko. ayame would remain o-ayame-hime to tanjirou for years, until he sees the way ayame treats nezuko as an equal, then he'd probably nurse a small crush on ayame.

- (listen. tanjirou falls first, but ayame always falls harder - no matter the au.)

- but would they have gotten together? I think so (bc i'm the president of the tanyame fanclub dammit)

- they would be much older tho - maybe nineteen by the time akihiko convinces tanjirou that yes, it's perfectly fine if he wants to court ayame. in fact, he would even encourage it!

- there's no one else akihiko could trust more than tanjirou to look after his eldest younger sister

- not that ayame needs to be looked after. she's very independent and headstrong

- tanjirou is probably the only person who wouldn't let her walk all over him. ayame can be such a brat sometimes. around tanjirou, she's a lot more humble. (but nezuko plays a part in ayame's humility too!)

if I'm right then yes, Tanjurou would totally top Shinjurou. I don't remember saying anything about Shinjurou in here yet but yes, if you are asking for my preference

Do you think Tanjuro would have been able to defeat Muzan if he'd had Tanjiro's training? I get the impression he was a prodigy like Yoriichi but I also get the impression that Muzan was stronger in the present day. Related to this, do you think Tanjuro and Kie were Yoriichi and Uta reincarnated? Sorry for asking two questions at once, and thank you for all the research you do!

You're fine, they're closely related context! And yes, I think it would be fair to say Tanjuro had the capabilities to defeat Muzan if given the proper training to bring out the full strength of his Sun Breathing, provided Sun Breathing alone is capable of defeating Muzan (side note: using drugs/alcohol on beasts like Yamata-no-Orochi or Shutendoji was the only way mythological demon hunters were able to defeat them, humans just need the help and that's okay). I do, however, wonder at what age it would had happened, given how much Tanjuro's health had deteriorated by adulthood.

While it's just as possible he was of a naturally weak constitution since childhood, it's a pet theory of mine that Tanjurou's scar was due to purposefully hiding the mark, and that Sun Breathing, the OG Breath, mitigates the effect of the mark--the caveat being that the closer to perfection one is at the technique, the more pronounced the mitigation. With Yoriichi basically being born perfect at Sun Breathing, being born with the mark did not effect his lifespan in any negative way either, but we know from Tanjuro's conversation with Tanjiro in Chapter 151 that he wasn't always perfect at the Breath technique as he was growing up, and he often got himself very tired out. Even though he later attained a state of mastery over it, by that time, I think his years of imperfect practice had already taken a toll on his health.

As for Muzan being stronger in the Taisho era than in the Sengoku era, if anything I would say the opposite, since Muzan still carries the very deep scars Yoriichi gave him; points of weakness for Tanjiro to follow like "strike here" instructions. Muzan has gotten more cautious since the Sengoku era, using the 12 Moons like a buffer between himself and any demon hunters. However, if there's an absolute difference in strength, I don't think it would be by much.

Tanjuro may have had some points of genius, and may have picked things up more intuitively than Tanjiro did (he was certainly better at teaching, we know that much!). However, I don't consider him on par with Yoriichi, nor do I theorize that he is Yoriichi's reincarnation. Although reincarnation is a subtle element of KnY's universe, the mechanisms of the plot and Breath technique are not dependent on this, and focus instead on the continuing of passing things down--from benefactor to common charcoal farmer, from parents to children, from cultivators to pupils. "Inherited memories" is a work-around for reincarnation because it explains intuitive knowledge without a luck-of-the-draw reliance on reincarnation having the right timing and place, and implies this acquired knowledge is available to any generation that needs it. As the importance of family and familial bonds are stressed so heavily, I feel like Tanjuro being another very important link in a long chain is more meaningful to the story.

Muzan doesn't have this--his shared cells are his own immortal cells, he does his own surveillance as he ultimately does not trust anyone but himself. Each link from Yoriichi down to Tanjiro may be individually weak, whether for ability or physical strength and short life span, but their bonds and feelings were eternal.

Hashira Backstories(🔥)

So! How did the Age/Fate Swap AU Hashira end up where they are? This is quite long, so I put the cut here.

Tanjirou and Nezuko Kamado: Tanjirou and Nezuko grew up with their parents and younger siblings. Their father, Tanjurou, was the Sun Hashira while the siblings were growing up, while Kie was most often in charge of the estate and the kids(even though the Kamado family has a staff, the family often does quite a few chores themselves). However, as tends to be the tragic norm for this family, it doesn't last. A demon found the Kamado home while Tanjirou was at Final Selection and Tanjurou was away on a mission. The demon managed to kill Kie and the younger four children, but Nezuko woke up in time to avoid meeting their fate. Tanjirou came home to his sister covered in blood and wounded, fighting off the demon despite not being finished training. Tanjirou, despite his own injuries, leapt in to save his little sister. The two had both sustained injuries that would later scar by the time their father arrived home and finished off the demon, but they survived. After the loss of their family, all three of the remaining Kamados struggled. Nezuko went to Final Selection a year later. When Tanjirou became eligible for the position of Sun Hashira at age 15, neither he nor Nezuko were surprised when their father retired. Nezuko became the Wind Hashira 2 years later, at age 16.

Inosuke Hashibira: Pretty much the same as canon, just earlier. He found out about his mom during a brief run-in with Douma, after which the Upper Moon let him go. "Out of respect for Kotoha" Douma claimed. Inosuke took it as an insult.

Zenitsu Agatsuma: Similar to canon, but no Kaigaku. Nezuko beat him into shape after they met, and Zenitsu fell in love(you cannot tell me that man doesn't want a woman that can kick his a**). He created a Seventh Form for Thunder Breathing, the mission leading to it being the one that made him a Hashira. Some believe he's a fake or stand-in Thunder Hashira, since he hasn't mastered the other 5 original forms, but he's working on it with Tanjirou's help. Kanao Tsuyuri: After being sold by her parents, Kanao was found and saved by the woman who would later become her predecessor. A few years after being adopted by Lady Tsuyuri as the former Flower Hashira's daughter, Kanao met another girl by the name of Aoi Kanzaki. The two clicked, and became sisters in all but name and blood. Kanao picked up Flower Breathing quickly, attending Final Selection in the same year as Tanjirou. She was a fast and efficient Slayer, her sharp eyes proving a massive boon in the field. Between missions, Kanao helped Aoi train to perfect the Insect Breathing that Aoi would eventually create. Kanao did still need her coin, but was forced to make her own decisions on a shared mission with Tanjirou. He had already been trying to help her for some time, but that mission forced her to make a snap decision with his life on the line. Kanao and Aoi became Hashira around the same time, only a few weeks apart. The sisters were faced with Upper Moon 2, Douma, and Aoi didn't make it. Since then, Kanao's personality took a couple steps back. While she wasn't relying on her coin again, she became far more reserved unless she was in the company of a few select people.

Genya Shinazugawa: In this universe, Genya was the one to kill his mother, Shizu, when she became a demon. However, Genya ran away the second he realized what he had done, afraid of what his remaining brother(Sanemi) would think. He wandered Japan for a while, killing any demons he came across. He accidentally discovered his demon-eating ability when a demon managed to break loose from his trap, and he panicked. That's when he was found by a Demon Slayer who had been wandering the area on patrol. After explaining the situation, Genya was taken into the Corps and trained to become a Demon Slayer, attending the same Final Selection as Nezuko. He was the first Hashira in the Corps to reach that rank without a Breath Style.

Sabito: Instead of Sabito dying at Final Selection, it was Giyuu. Sabito returned Mount Sagiri riddled with guilt and a hatred for demons as deep as the sea. Ever since then, he's been merciless to demons, especially those who are selective with their victims. He repainted his kitsune mask with small blue details in honour of his fallen friend.

Sayo: Sayo was raised in a Buddhist Temple as a priestess. When she was old enough and had become a priestess, she began raising children in one of the temples. One of these children was Kaigaku, another was a blind boy named Gyomei. After a falling out between Kaigaku and the other children, Kaigaku retaliated by extinguishing the wisteria incense. Sayo noticed too late, and a demon attacked. She tried to protect the kids, but she was only 19 and hadn't learned any combat. Still, she fought with all her might and managed to hold the demon off until daybreak, losing sight in her left eye in the process. The only children to survive were Gyomei and Kaigaku, the latter of which ran off. When authorities arrived, they were quick to accuse Sayo of the murder of the other children. Gyomei tried to step in and defend the woman who looked after him and those other children, but no one believed him. He was blind, after all. How could he possibly have known who actually did it? Just as Sayo was about to be executed, however, it was halted by the leader of the Corps and Sun Hashira Kamado Tanjurou. The two offered to take Sayo, saving her life and introducing her to the Corps. Sayo eventually joined the Corps after finishing a brutal training regimen, becoming a Hashira in only two months after creating her own Breath Style(Crystal) from Stone Breathing.

Makio, Hinatsuru, and Suma Uzui: After being wed to their husband, Tengen, the family of shinobi and kunoichi ran away from their clan in search of freedom and a chance repent for the lives they took. As they ran, they crossed paths with a demon. Tengen was quick to step up in defense of his wives, and got badly injured as a result. Suma, Makio, and Hinatsuru all retaliated, battling the demon together until daybreak. A Demon Slayer arrived shortly after, offering to give Tengen medical care. The injuries Tengen sustained included respiratory injuries, while his wives each had scars of their own from the battle. After recovering, the three ex-kunoichi asked to become Demon Slayers despite their shared husband's protest. But after a long conversation, and several promises to stay safe and retired once they'd defeated an Upper Moon, Tengen agreed, and training began. The three Uzui wives remained a powerful and cohesive unit, and have been considered the second strongest Demon Slayer team, second only to the Kamado siblings. Meanwhile, though his injuries left him limited in how he could contribute, Tengen often does recon for his wives. When he isn't being treated by them at the estate, of course.

Yuichirou Tokito: The night a demon attacked the Tokito twins, Yuichirou couldn't get to Muichirou in time. The demon killed his twin in cold blood, and Yuichirou returned the favour tenfold. He never forgot that night, the image of Muichirou's lifeless body burned into his memory forever along with the guilt. Guilt for not saving his twin, guilt for his last words to Muichirou being cruel things he didn't mean. He knew Muichirou had to have hated him when he died, and felt his own life was a fluke. In Yuichirou's head, Muichirou should have lived. But it wouldn't change the fact Muichirou died, so Yuichirou fights in his twin's name.

Maybe it's because I'm a dumb bitch but the whole Tanjirou's ancestory story line is so funny and anticlimactic when you stop to think about it

At first you are like "oh ok he's the descendant of the first breath of the sun user but his dad had to keep their family story a secret to protect everyone"

Then when it's revealed that Muichiro is the actual descendant and reincarnation is a belief in this universe, so you are like "now I figured, Yoriichi reincarnates in the Kamado family in every generation, but Tanjirou's dad died, so the reincarnation circle is kinda fucked up and that's why Yoriichi's powers are taking a while to adjust to Tanjirou"

BUT THEN EVERY GUESS IS WRONG because turns out Tanjirou is just the descendant of a guy who knew Yoshiiri and liked his moves so much they turned them into a dance... Like bro that's insane, what kinda of reveal is that hsjajsjaka
