I left Warsaw today and went on a hike at Kampinos National Park. I walked circa 3 hours across verdant nature feeling so so peaceful. I needed this time. It's a huge park, averaging 35.500 hectares, and populated with elks and lynxes; hopefully, the latter only feed on ruminants! I heard some weird sounds indeed so I got myself a stretch of wood, just in case lol. I'll take it back to France! The other day, I had also collected some nice pine cones. Besides audio logs which I'm used to doing, I recorded a video of a spot where I spent a lot of time seated on a tree trunk, but I kept talking and now I'm too bashful to publish it :( Anyway, it's definitely a spot I'll remember about.

Afterwards, I went back to my favorite church, Saint Florian's cathedral. I remained there for a long time once again until, suddenly, all the lights were turned on.. gosh, I knew was in for another mass! Moments before, I thought I couldn't attend a mass at this church and.. it happened. I came out feeling happy and thankful.

Kampinos is a track I’ve made for a contest organized by polish music production school. It was about using samples from Kampinoski National Park so there were a lot of wood crunches, birds noises and other organic sounds provided by them.

That was one of my firsts tracks made in Ableton and I remember that I discovered a lot of its great features using Sampler and Simpler, a super-easy way of warping sounds and playing with the arrangement. I recorded my vocals and edited it ending up with a choir layer and beast-like noises which I really liked and later I added a track of my voice reading names of flora and fauna of Kampinos.

My mixing skills were rather nothing back in the days so after a year I mixed it again and although now I can still hear a lot of stuff that could be improved I decided to keep the track as it was. There’s no point in endless making changes in one piece. However, I like the spooky vibe of this track and its rawness is something I like right now.

It also became some kind of anthem of environment protection to me. That was not my intention during the working process but now I feel like the song speaks to me to remind about taking care of nature and the planet.

So I pass it on.

This Wednesday was my dad’s name-day (imieniny), so we decided to drive to the Kampinoski National Park and take a stroll. While walking around, we would often stop and read the signs about various animals and plants you could see there. It made me reflect on how much wildlife we usually take for granted. Harmful processes such as deforestation affect animals in many ways. It causes habitat destruction, increased risk of predation, reduced food availability, and much more. As a result, some animals lose their homes, others lose food sources – and finally, many lose their lives. My dad also told me the history of the park and its owners, which was very informative. Apparently, Kampinos National Park was established in 1959, in order to protect the unique complex of inland dunes and wetlands, natural plant communities, rich fauna, and numerous monuments of Polish history and culture. It covers areas of the Kampinos Forest situated in the glacial valley of the Vistula River, in the western part of the Warsaw Basin. It covers an area of 38,544.33 hectares, of which 72 ha belong to the Ignacy Mościcki Bison Breeding Centre. Overall, I really enjoyed today.

Instead of sleeping in, we decided to follow our plan from the last weekend. Early Saturday train from Sochaczew to Warsaw East, where we drove toward Kampinoski National Park. Karol, Ola and Ania are one of the most chilled people I've ever met - perfect company to traverse 16 km of Warsaw's "green lungs" - Kampinos. Andrzej, Ania's boyfriend, fits perfectly into our group. On top of that, he was our driver.

It took us 4h to complete the walk. We have managed to avoid the rain and be back at our car before it got completely dark, which happens quite fast consider the winter season.

I missed my express train by roughly 2 minutes. Jumped on the next, slower one, with a cup of coffee and swiss chocolate I got from my friend, Ola. I might carry on with the healthy way and go for a swim once I'm home.
