#kaori with a quad and 3A is unstoppable
Text
Wakaba Higuchi will have two new programs for next season. After landing a 3A at NHK Trophy, she will attempt one in the short and one in the free, and potentially add a second 3A to the free if possible. She will not attempt a quad.
Mai Mihara has received her new short program and is aiming for the Beijing Olympics after making her recovery from illness.
Kaori Sakamoto is working on a 4T for her free skate and is also planning to try a 3A for her short program.

Skate Canada - Ladies SP
What an adrenaline ride! I didn’t dare to liveblog because I didn’t want to look away from the livestream and miss what’s going on for even a second. And since my No1 fave was skating last, my heart just kept pounding more and more until the end. So here’s my (delayed) thoughts:
- Young You was absolutely amazing! Congrats on landing the 3A! Loved seeing the excitement on her face after she did! - Now can she get a second GP assignment, please? Because she’s someone who really could be a contender for the final and not giving her that chance is extremely unfair.
- Marin Honda might not have had the best performance here - such a shame about the popped flip! - but I’m just glad to see she’s (mostly) doing okay after the accident she had a few days ago. And her performance was still lovely to watch.
- I’m so happy for Gabby Daleman!!!! Scores aside, I’m just happy she ended the program with a smile on her face. Best of luck for the free skate!
- Alexandra Trusova’s program still honestly does nothing for me. I really don’t see whatever it is that the judges are seeing in her. 33 PCS? For what??? Her basic skating skills are lacking to say the least, and imo it really showed here. Don’t get where those high GOEs came from either. I want whatever Judge 5 was smoking when they scored her.
- And I have to say the exact same thing about Bradie Tennell as well. I don’t get what the judges are liking so much here. She’s not bad by any means, but her landings are always so stiff and her PCS should not be this high either. (Not even a full point behind Rika? Like, for real?)
- I felt super bad for Evgenia here :(( I don’t even know what else to say. I did say in advance that “if it means Rika makes the final, I’d sacrifice all my other faves in a heartbeat” - I guess the skating gods listened, both with Zhenya and with Kaori last week :(. I hope the free goes better for her. Don’t give up, Zhenya, you’re a fighter!
- And finally, the skate of the night... Rika! I mean wow, what a performance! I always have to rewatch her skates afterwards because I’m too nervous while it’s happening, and my heart is pounding wildly, so I can barely really enjoy it. BUT GOD, DID YOU SEE THAT??? I seriously don’t see how anyone can question how good she is at this point. And I don’t just mean the jumps. If seeing her last didn’t highlight how much more complicated her program is compared to everyone elses, how much better her skating skills are, how much better her footwork is, etc., then I don’t know what will. And I’m glad she’s FINALLY getting the highest PCS in the field, but honestly, imo the difference still isn’t big enough. But I don’t want to complain too much, because this just put me in a really good mood.
(And yes, I know the standings are all going to turn around in the free and Trusova’s going to be unstoppable with her quads, but I just want Rika to win at least silver and that seems like very good possibility now, so I’m happy for now.)
