Out of curiosity, what were Sullivan’s, Amicia’s, and Kara’s backstories? Specifically their time with the Sabbat. Were they any of the ones listed out in the Night Road game or were they original?
... Sorry anon, bad news, but the question you've asked has an answer which is actually a bit complicated.
(Okay it's not REALLY, but you got me talking and I talked far more than you probably actually WANTED. SORRY NOT SORRY)
Tumblr media
So basically you gotta keep something in mind: Amicia and Kara were made by @nightingaletrash, and Sullivan is mine. They are all the childer of Millicent Rue, much like the canonical Lasombra courier from Night Road. They were all shovelheads, and after two years and her third surviving fledgling Millicent went "fuck it, I have three kids now, I'm never doing this again." After Millicent basically ditched the three of them, to survive, Kara went into working with artefacts, and Amicia and Sullivan became couriers. Kara would eventually be reunited with her biological daughter, who's a Ravnos named Evie (who you've probably seen me talk about -- Sullivan dotes on her), and at some point Amicia moved to Seattle, started a blood den, and became sexually and later romantically involved with Prince Cross.
That's where the simple bit ends.
In reality it's actually a bit complicated past that because of a few things.
Biggest thing: @nightingaletrash and I both have our own separate continuities. For the most part, 95% of what we talk about happens in both, but I essentially have a copy pasted version of Sullivan running around in her head, and she has one of her lot running around in mine.
The biggest differences in our separate universes are these:
In @nightingaletrash's continuity, Evie was the canon VTMB fledgling and Amicia was the canon VTMNR courier.
In Maddyverse (my continuity), Madeline (thus the name) was the canon VTMB fledgling, and my canon VTMNR courier was someone entirely separate called Elisa Mulgrew, my Gangrel, who is Lettow Kaminsky's childe.
So because of that there's minor differences in backstories. For example, I can't quite remember what Evie's backstory is in Maddyverse, where she's not the Fledgling (I have it somewhere!), but obviously she didn't have to deal with all the bullshit the Fledgling did so while she's still independent she's probably less anti-Sect than she is in @nightingaletrash's continuity. And in @nightingaletrash's continuity, Amicia was the canon VTMNR courier, so in her universe Amicia would've had more money sooner and therefore would've met Prince Cross and become influential over there a lot faster than she would have in Maddyverse.
We don't actually talk about the differences much, we just talk about what each universe has in common and if I've had to I just slightly adapt it in my head to fit Maddyverse, and I've always assumed she did the same thing for hers. I've never asked her her explicit thoughts on it but the way I see it, her version of Sullivan is just a duplicate copy that she can do whatever she wants to because my Sullivan is over here in my head, hers is an AU version of mine. She can do whatever she wants to her version of Sullivan because it doesn't have any effect on my (Maddy)version of Sullivan.
I don't do whatever I want with Kara or Amicia though because we've never actually explicitly discussed this and I don't want to be disrespectful of her ownership of her characters, as I know my interpretation is pretty laissez-faire compared to how most people feel about other people playing with their OCs. In any case, both universes have so much in common it's never had to come up, because they're all Millicent's childer, Amicia always ends up in Seattle, Sullivan always ends up working for Amicia -- the only thing that really changes between our heads is when it happens and what Amicia was up to and what Evie's backstory is.
(Am dying to know what Elisa'd probably be up to in her universe, though -- she'd have never diablerised Aila, and presumably wasn't able to come back to Tucson in 2019 because Lettow explicitly requested her as courier just so he could have his estranged childe close by to keep an eye on her. If Elisa was working in Tucson at the time, she'd have been given all the assignments, not Amicia, so there's no universe where Amicia is the VTMNR courier where Elisa could have been present. And given the Tucson court went tits up in @nightingaletrash's universe when Amicia betrayed them to the SI, either Lettow was destroyed before he could ever be reconciled with Elisa, or he went on the Beckoning before they were ever reunited. Which makes me really sad to think about because Elisa was struggling, and VTMNR was when the hardest part of her life as a vampire was finally put behind her. SO THAT GIVES ME THE SADS. Damn, now I've got a plotbunny biting...)
But if we look at their Doylian backstory it gets even more complicated lmao.
Because like. as a character. Sullivan actually started off as an AU version of another character.
(and feel free to tune out at this point because I realise this actually has nothing to do with your actual question of his IN-UNIVERSE backstory, AT ALL, lmao, sorry, it's more his out-of-universe backstory)
So. Maddyverse is Maddyverse because the fledgling is Madeline Jones, my first ever vampire OC. She had an identical twin sister called Meredith. Meredith went on to marry a Welsh trans man named Jonathan Grey and opened a pharmacy in Seattle. Here's a picture I made of him with Artbreeder before everyone realised how fucked up using AI was:
Tumblr media
Meredith was walking home in December 2019 when she got involved in the mass Embrace. She is my canonical VTMB2 main character, although that may change by the time it finally fucking comes out.
I played with Jonathan a bit. I decided after Meredith's disappearance he closed their pharmacy and moved back to the UK, taking their twin daughters with him.
As he was a pharmacist, eventually he got the attention of a Brujah who wanted drugs, and was ghouled. Yeah, Jonathan had a fucking meth lab. He absolutely hated being a ghoul and as he got older and didn't age, he was forced to distance himself from his daughters and basically be a disaster father figure to protect them and also himself.
His Brujah domitor had a Lasombra enemy, who, while fucking with the Brujah, noticed that her ghoul seemed to be pretty resilient to her fuckery. Jonathan was pumped full of Brujah blood, so had a huge "FUCK YOU" streak. Lasombra got distracted trying to fuck with Jonathan and eventually tried to Embrace him.
It took her four attempts, that's how fucking stubborn and how much a fighter Jonathan was. But she managed it. Ended up being a bad idea, though: the first thing Jonathan did when he woke up from his Embrace was stake her ass and leave her out for the sun. And then go back to running his pharmacy.
Problem with this backstory is... Meredith was Embraced in 2019. With the amount of time that passed, by the time Jonathan was finally Embraced we're looking at it being after 2050 in the timeline. So I adored Jonathan and was itching to play him, but I'd never be able to in a modern game because he's too far ahead in the timeline.
But I wanted to play him in VTMNR. I wanted to play him badly. So I tweaked a few things -- he still has the wife that went missing, still has twin daughters, still trans, still Lasombra... but he was Embraced in 1994 instead. He doesn't become as bitter and hateful towards Kindred because he didn't spend thirty or so years as a ghoul, and he had his sisters show up shortly after his Embrace, so he never lost that goofy part of his personality (even if there's very few people who are aware of it).
Given their near-identical appearances, Sullivan is now Jonathan's biological uncle who went missing when Jonathan was very young, almost too young to remember him. The two of them later would meet, towards the end of the 21st century, in Seattle, and Sullivan would attempt to take Jonathan under his wing, but by then Jonathan utterly despised every Kindred he'd ever meet and barely tolerated him. While I haven't decided for certain Jonathan will probably, at some point, be destroyed at Sullivan's hands for Embracing a powerful-ass vampire hunter and siccing him on the vampire populace of Seattle. Even as a Lasombra, given that he was Embraced as a Brujah ghoul, he still has a lot of Brujah traits -- and I don't see Jonathan ever fully toeing the line as a Cainite.
Jonathan might get away alive. Ultimately, he's still got that Brujah in him, and Sullivan doesn't like to physically fight unless he really has to so has few physical skills. But if Prince Cross, his beloved sister's lover, tells him to put him down, then he intends to finish the job. They might end up chasing each other all across the US for decades, who knows... depends if I want Jonathan to live or not I guess, or if I want to keep playing with a story that's nearly a hundred years away and will probably never get to write out (how many VTM fanfics take place in the far future like that?).
UH. ANYWAY. As for Amicia' and Kara's backstories, I'm sure @nightingaletrash will add those on when she can!

i saw you mention it in the tags of a post but what are your thoughts on john byrne's superman?
not the biggest fan tbh! john byrne is a very bigoted right-wing cunt and a LOT of that bleeds through into his writing.
probably the biggest thing i (and many other people) hate about his superman is how he restructured clark’s origin to strip away the immigrant allegory. the origin for byrne’s superman is that while he was created in a birthing matrix on krypton by jor-el and lara, he was actually born on earth to jonathan and martha kent—and that's the MOST important thing to him:
Tumblr media
the man of steel #6
and throughout his run byrne just smacks you over the head with clark as a Proud American (and as a "super-republican", as byrne once described him), and constantly has him reiterate that his kryptonian heritage just isn't important to him. idk i just think it's so shitty to take a character who was purposely created to parallel and represent the lives of jewish immigrants and strip those meaningful aspects away from him.
so that's basically what i was referring to with my tags (i had said that pre-crisis kara should've materialized as a spirit and beat this clark's ass)—even in pre-crisis, kara's someone who will never forget krypton and never stop being a kryptonian, and even though she had assimilated into american society that didn't mean that she didn't care or think about her heritage:
Tumblr media
supergirl (1982) #17
and that's ultimately just difference between paul kupperberg (a jewish writer who understood the history of these characters and knew what they were intended to represent) vs. john byrne (cunt).
all that being said, there are definitely things that i enjoy from byrne's run on superman. i honestly didn't hate how he wrote most of the daily planet employees and i really liked all the different dynamics between them. i also really enjoy his art for the most part and i especially love how he draws clark vs how he draws superman (and i love his lois, jimmy, and cat grant). but yeah that's pretty much all i like from him lol.

ok here is a helpful guide for Superman fans in Tumblr when referring to different eras of Superman:
Golden Age Superman: Kal-L. The Original. Very cocky. Very charismatic. Couldn’t fly as a kid. Has no solid code against killing. Chaotic Good. Can actually fly now. Has a disturbingly high kill count. Loves Toxic Women (Lois Literally Drugged him one time). Literal WW2 veteran. Not from Kansas. Smallville, East Coast (likely New York). Is now married to Lois. Head of the Daily Star (not Planet). Is Power Girl’s cousin. Is very aggressive. Still saved people from suicide canonically. Canonically religious (Married Lois in a Kryptonian Ceremony). “What trauma?” Seen everyone he loves die.
Silver Age Superman: Kal-El. The Most Popular. Speaks fluent Kryptonese. Total “50’s Dad”. The Strongest. Also the most conformist. Strict Code against killing. Lawful Good. From Smallville. Is canonically Religious (For Rao, his culture’s God). Has multiple cousins. From Smallville, East Coast (likely Maryland this time). Says he wouldn’t hit a woman. Probably has. Sneezed a Solar System Away. Somehow the WEIRDEST one. Also the biggest Prankster. Was Superboy. Was part of the Legion. Saw Pa die. Refuses to acknowledge his trauma. Needs a hug but won’t say it. Works for the Daily Planet. Alan Moore loves him.
Bronze Age Superman: Kal El. Actually just Silver Age Superman but “weaker”. Still the Strongest. Your favorite writer’s favorite Superman. Neutral Good. Originator of the Clex Drama. Met God. Is a pure scientist. Has Three Canon Endings. All of them are literal tragic endings. Is best bros with Batman. Is the Original Nightwing. His cousin is the Second Nightwing. Dick is actually the Third Nightwing. Loves his bro Jimmy Olsen. Smarter than Batman. Made a vow to protect life. Newscaster. Grant Morrison and Mark Waid love him.
Dark Age/Byrne Superman: Clark Kent (Kal El). Still moody. Weakest Superman. Thinks he’s Neutral Good, still Lawful Good. Doesn’t like Krypton. Designer Baby. Best Journalist. Canonically a Porn Star. Died. Came back. Most insecure Superman. Loves ‘Murica. Killed like three people one time. Strict code against killing. “Superman is what I do, Clark is who I am”. Legion who? Superboy who? Supergirl who? Football Star. Pure Sarcasm. Agnostic. People say they hate him but is the reason Smallville, Man of Steel and STAS exist. Literally wants to fuck Jimmy’s Mom. Triangle Era (90’s) Superman: Clark Kent (Kal-El). Is less moody now. Makes more Jokes. Still a drama queen. Smarter. Stronger. Wants to write a Novel. Married Lois. Jimmy is the Best Man. Good Leader. True Lawful Good. The Superman you probably think of the Most. Coolest guy. 90’s Superboy (the best) 90’s Supergirl (Matrix). Was once Gangbuster (Chaotic Neutral). Mind so strong, he killed a psychic in his sleep without knowing it. Christian (Married Lois in a Church). Still knows Kryptonian Kung Fu (Torquasm Vo/Rao). Dick Grayson’s 3rd Dad. Tim Drake’s 4th Dad. Slept with a Mermaid in Collage. Is fun.
Post-Crisis/2000’s Superman: Clark Kent (Kal El) Retcons out the ass. Kara comes back. Knows Boxing now. Knows Kung Fu. Held a Black Hole in his hand. Destroyed Moons. Agnostic. Still Lawful Good. Loves his wife. Loves his adopted son. Chris Kent. His son is Nightwing. His other son is also Nightwing. Walked the earth one time because of war crimes. Saves people from suicide again. Was a Kryptonian general one time. Literal Genius. Smarter than Batman. Is the GOAT. Hates the President.
New 52 Superman: Clark Kent (Kal-El) Very cocky. Very charismatic. Couldn’t fly as a kid. Has no solid code against killing. Chaotic Good to Neutral Good. Lower kill count than Post-Crisis. Loves Toxic Women (Loves the craziest version of Diana). Had a Mid-Life Crisis in his Mid-20’s. Was a Wrestler. Talks like Jason Todd/Wally West/Nightwing/Peter Parker/every mid-20’s white boi in the 90’s-00’s. Everyone hated him. Wasn’t as bad as they say. Is the Andrew Garfield/Spider-Man of Supermen. Killed off without good reason.
Rebirth Superman: Clark Kent (Kal-El). Is literally just Triangle Era Superman. With kids. No Chris tho. Still Lawful Good. Strongest of the Post-Crisis versions. Tries to be a good dad. Is a decent dad. Except for the time where he left Jon alone. So he’s a bad dad. I’m still not over that. Bendis loves him. Says please alot. Watches Anime. Kind of a dead beat. I miss Chris.
if you want summations of other Supermen I didn’t cover you are welcome to ask.

SUPERGIRLS
Super-Girl
Tumblr media
A superheroine wished into existence by Jimmy Olsen
2. Queen Lucy of Borgonia
Tumblr media
the queen of a fictional latin american country named Borgonia. She became queen because her parents died, and a Count named Norvello, kept her hidden from the public, in the hopes that she wouldn't steal the hearts of her citizens and allow him to quietly rule the country with an iron fist.
3. Linda Lee Danvers/Kara Zor-El (Earth-One)
Tumblr media
The original that sacrificed herself to save the multiverse/remaining people of the surviving universes. She was brought back in "Many Happy Returns" but then goes back to original Earth-One. I think she's now alive somewhere because of convergence??? She also showed up as Linda Danvers's guardian angel and visited Deadman on Christmas. She's met the original legion
4. Ellie Leeds
Tumblr media
She was the first to discover Supergirl's arrival, but was exposed to X-Kryptonite and fell into a coma. When she awoke years later - after a chance meeting with Supergirl - she started exhibiting Supergirl's powers, and also believed she was the Girl of Steel.
5. Louise-L
Tumblr media
the Supergirl of the 5020th Century; She traveled back in time, to prevent the goals of some villains named Toxus and Tal Belok
6. Matrix/Mae Kent
Tumblr media
Matrix, a protoplasmic creation of an alternate universe Lex Luthor. She's met the reboot legion
6/7. Earth-Angel of Fire Supergirl
Tumblr media
Linda Danvers, who fused with Matrix to become an Earth-Angel
7. Linda Danvers
Tumblr media
Linda and Matrix unfuse and Linda goes on an adventure to find Matrix. I think she's met one of the legions?
8. Ariella Kent
Tumblr media
Linda Danvers's daughter who was saved from the pre-crisis multiverse, and now exists in the future. She has pre-crisis kryptonian level powers
9. Cir-El
Tumblr media
thought to be Superman's daughter from the future, but was actually a personality grafted onto a separate person made by a future version of Brainiac to ensure that version's existence
10. Linda Lang/Kara Zor-El
Tumblr media
The Post-Crisis version of Supergirl, I think much of the weirdness in her origin was because of Kryptonite poisoning? She's met threeboot legion
11. Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers
Tumblr media
The New 52 and onwards version of Kara Zor-El Supergirl, they showed much more of Argo's history in this version
12. Kara Zor-El/Karen Starr, First Supergirl, later Power Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The New 52 Earth 2 version of Karen Starr, she has a similar origin to post-crisis and new 52 Supergirl where Superman grew up before she arrived on Earth, but like Earth-Two, the Superman and Lois of her world basically adopted her. She became Power Girl due to getting stranded on Earth 0
Karas
See Linda Lee Danvers
Kara Zor-L/Karen Starr (Earth-Two)
Tumblr media
(*sigh* also known as Paige Stetler) from Earth-Two, second Kara introduced, for a time, she was Atlantean. She is the only survivor of Earth-Two, except something something convergence :
3. Kara from Superman/Aliens
Tumblr media
The third Kara introduced, she is from a space colony named Argo (not the Kryptonian City, but instead from a planet named Odiline) that got destroyed by Xenomorphs, She and Superman tried to save the last Argonians, but they failed
4. See Kara Zor-El/Linda Lang
5. Kara Zor-L/Karen Starr (Earth 2) (Post-Infinite Crisis)
Tumblr media
A Power Girl from Earth 2, which seems to be a universe much in-line with Earth-Two, although there are differences here and there
6. See Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers
7. See Kara Zor-El/Karen Starr
Honorable Mention Kara (She hasn't interacted with main continuity): Kara In-Ze
Tumblr media
the DCAU version of Supergirl. She comes from Krypton's sister planet named "Argo," she was adopted by the Kents, but then decided to stay in the future in the legion
Laurel Kent, despite not being here for Supergirl or Kara reasons, she is here due to Supergirl and the legion
Tumblr media
She was initially introduced as Clark's descendant. For some reason, despite being in the future, Legion of Superheroes had tie-ins for event annuals. Superman editorial (presumably because of Byrne) wanted to get rid of all kryptonians, so guess what happens during Millenium:
Tumblr media
anyways. the reason she is on this post:
Andromedas
Laurel Gand/(was called Andromeda pre-5YL) (5 Years Later)
Tumblr media
Due to editorial mandates, Kara was erased from the legion's history. Laurel Gand, a distant relative of Lar Gand takes her place. She basically has the same history as Kara except Khunds keep on trying to kill Daxamites
1.5/2. Laurel Gand/Andromeda (SW6)
Tumblr media
A time paradox duplicate of Laurel Gand.
3. Laurel Gand (Earth-247)
Tumblr media
She's a literal xenophobe now. She gets better and becomes a nun to atone
Misc?
Sensor Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(so she doesn't actually count, but it was noticeable enough to mention)
Lesla-Lar
Tumblr media
Lesla-Lar was a kandorian scientist, who was an orphan that took the last name of her best friend Zora Vi-Lar. She was killed by phantom zone criminals she released, but then became a ghost where she still troubled Supergirl. Her initial plan was to replace Kara as Supergirl Also Lana Lang with a helmet
Tumblr media
The helmet supposedly gives superpowers to those who wield it - but it does not. Superboy tricks Lana into thinking it does due to Clark wearing the helmet while bullets bounced off of him

December 1989. Within about a year of her death in CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #7 (October 1985), Supergirl became an unperson: not merely dead, but retroactively erased from DC continuity and editorially off-limits. Except, that is, for this unusual Alan Brennert short story in the 1989 CHRISTMAS WITH THE SUPER-HEROES SPECIAL. Deadman, the ghost of circus aerialist Boston Brand, is more than usually morose during a holiday season he can only experience vicariously. Then, he encounters a mysterious blond woman who can somehow see him in his ghostly form. To the reader, at least, she looks awfully familiar — could that possibly be...?
Tumblr media
Otto Binder wrote most of the early stories of the Silver Age Supergirl (including her debut, about 30 years before this story), and Jim Mooney was the artist most strongly associated with her (although her debut in ACTION COMICS #252 was drawn by Al Plastino).
Not terribly long after this issue was published, a story like this would probably have been rejected outright, or so heavily rewritten prior to publication as to be unrecognizable — DC was not eager to call attention to the pre-Crisis history it had recently discarded, except perhaps to trample on it, as John Byrne did on several notable occasions during this period. It would be another 15 years before DC finally reintroduced Kara Zor-El for real.

#okay but the absolutely totaled ones are ones that have had evie behind the wheel#there's a reason she's not Allowed to drive#(it's never stopped her from occasionally stealing and wrecking a car)#evie byrne

Alec: Okay, but, you've taken responsibility for her, so -- Sullivan: I'm not her sire, though. You're welcome to chase down Beckett and pin this on him, if you want. Alec: But you've taken responsibility for her. Those were Kara's exact words. Sullivan: For Evie personally. For Evie's shenanigans, I disclaim all responsibility. Alec: She managed to crash a car so spectacularly it ended up through the window of a second floor office. Sullivan: I'm not sure her insurance will cover that but that's between her and them.

Diana and Clark for the character bingo (bc you said they were on your mind)
I mean, they were on my mind but I have the attention span of a *remembers goldfish can actually remember things for months* me.
Anyway, on it boss 🫡
Clark
Tumblr media
People in the 30's were so right to get attached to him I really love him. I relate to his feeling of alienation and his self consciousness a lot which has led to some. Projecting. A lot of people are wrong about him (by virtue of being so popular) but not enough to tick the everyone is wrong about them box.
Of course there's the "Superman should be dark" Zack Synder crowd and whatever the fuck Injustice is but there's also people who make him too clean and perfect or overemphasise his niceness IMO. My view of him probably comes from reading older comics (especially golden age) where he's a bit rougher and I like that side of him. Like his original tagline was "Champion of the Oppressed" he forced a war profiteer to enlist to teach him a lesson, he trapped a mining company owner (and his party guests) in a mine so he would make his mines safer, he tore down a slum to force the government to rebuild it with better materials all within his first few issues in Action Comics. And this characterization wasn't entirely in those early issues, like later on in DC presents #28 where he fucking. Gives Mongul (unfortunate name)* a brain hemorrhage (it was the only way he could think of to defeat him). Or in The Death of Superman where he kills Doomsday without umming and ahhing over whether or not it's sentient. He's like Diana in that he won't kill most of the time and tries to understand others but he's not a hardline "no kill" guy.
*Elaborating on that but giving a character who is both a villain and has yellowy coloured skin a name that's one letter off of a real Asian ethnicity is uhh... unfortunate ignorance at best and purposefully racist at worst. Mongul. Mongol. They're not even pronounced differently.
*Abrupt segue* Anyway, back to Superman. His meaner and more overtly leftist side frequently gets watered down so he gets characterised as a "hug it out" liberal. I won't say this is a mischaracterisation because there's no one Superman, but it's not my fave.
There's also a lot of discourse about who the real guy is. Is he Kal, Clark or Superman? So you get the shitty take in Kill Bill that calls Clark Kent his critique of humanity (what?) or the Byrne take where Kal doesn't matter.
In my view, he's all of it. He grew up an anomaly, worried he could crush his peers without a thought, constantly having to control himself. Of course he's clumsy because he's spending so much time reigning in 99% of his power, he doesn't have brainspace to think about minutiae. Of course he's anxious because one wrong move could kill somebody. When he's Superman a lot of his brainspace gets freed up because he doesn't have to hide so he's more confident. His heritage does matter because all immigrants, or even descendants of them like me, feel a connection with their heritage, and for someone who never got to know it in the way he should have, he feels a longing for it.
He idealises Krypton and is forced to recon with the flawed reality of it later when he talks to Kara about what it was actually like, which I found a bit relatable because I would idealise Ireland as a child and only really took the rose coloured glasses off later on (which sounds stupid but I was a child and it was really easy to feel like Ireland would be more of a home for me when I didn't fit in in England and my Irish mother accepted me. I extrapolated).
None of it is fake, which is out of line with golden age Clark being non-confrontational and making himself small as part of his disguise, but I don't treat any era as gospel. So yeah, I have a lot of autistic feelings about him.
Umm. I didn't intend for this to be so long I just got rambling about various Clark thoughts that have been buried somewhere in my head for a while.
Diana
Tumblr media
She may not be your fave of all time but she's still going in the blorbo by proxy category because you're a fan. On to my actual thoughts about her.
A lot of my feelings about her are mired in my thoughts on her treatment as the only female member of the trinity and how the amazons are treated/written in general rather than solely being about her because in a lot of ways she's symbolic of DC's treatment of women.
WRT the trinity, she's the only member without a secondary title (she used to have Sensation Comics a long time ago) and her potentially much more interesting dynamic with Clark is shoved aside in favour if Clark + Batman. The trinity really feels like it's BATMAN!!! Superman also! and uh *checks smudged handwriting* Wobner Woman.
WRT her she's frequently sexualised, almost always written by privileged men, her supporting characters get nothing (the first non-Diana wonderfam related ongoing was Wonder Girl in 2021 and only lasted 7 issues), her lore gets retconned with much less hastle than Batman or Superman's and her series numbering keeps getting rebooted*
*This may seem like a petty complaint but I've noticed that characters who get rebooted numbering are often ones who while popular enough to get consistent ongoings, don't get a lot of faith from DC so they use the new number 1's as a gimmick to garner interest.
But to focus solely on her as a character, I feel similarly to you about liking her in a chill way. She feels less relatable to me than Clark but she's very cool still. I like her optimism, her strong sense of justice, general badassery and also that she's willing to cross that line and kill under certain circumstances. Her diplomatic bent really makes her unique among heroes too.
I need to read more of her absolutely.
---
But yeah, the reason I was thinking about them was because I was (and am) annoyed that Clark and Bruce are pushed as the dynamic when Clark and Diana make much more sense.
They're both outsiders (in different ways) with incredible power who base their justice around harm reduction and have a sense of optimism about the world and the ability to do better. Both make a point of being compassionate, considerate and diplomatic. Bruce's justice is rooted in his trauma and a desire to protect others from experiencing that and he's more pessimistic. He's not particularly considerate or good at communicating, he can be quite self centered and he's obscenely wealthy, which I think would put him at odds with Clark and his values. (Yeah, yeah, Bruce donates to charity but he's still a billionaire so it's clearly not enough, and while Clark may not be straight up commie, I do think he'd agree that being a billionaire is too much).
The reason Bruce and Clark are pushed so much is because they're DC's most famous characters but Diana isn't too far behind and she makes more sense as Clark's closest friend on the League but DC hates women and loves Batman so it's Batman and Superman: World's Finest forever and ever.
Thanks for asking!
