i really dont know how people say detroit become human is better than heavy rain even on like a purely technical game design level like i guess it has less moments where you can deliberately make a mockery of the game through willfully rejecting the experience in front of you but thats because it literally forces itself to be a mockery no matter what you do

Wednesday, January 10th - Superman Cults // Possession
Thursday, January 11th - The Forgotten One // A Hole in the World
Friday, January 12th - A Parent Knows Best // Eldritch Horror
Saturday, January 13th - It Takes a Village // Inheritance
Sunday, January 14th - Mistakes Were Made // Horror Movie AU
Purpose?
Not enough horror-themed fanworks in the world about the Superfam. Got jealous of the Batfandom having all these horror-themed events and projects, so I decided to host one for the Superfam.
Why should we participate in this?
Because you like seeing the soupeyfam in ever-increasingly fucked up situations that elicit a deeply-rooted, ancient dread :3
So how does it work?
The release date for fanworks is from Monday, the 8th of January through Sunday, the 14th of January, 2024.
This aint a Halloween-themed event! You have well over three months to write, draw, and create fanworks. However, use the spooky season to help generate some ideas and propel you forward! :3
This an opportunity for people who’d like to explore the Superfamily characters, dynamics, and relationships through a variety of prompts. Although romantic ships are nice, please make sure the Superfam are the focus of your fanwork.
Superfamily characters include, but are not limited to:
Clark Kent
Lois Lane
Kara Zor El
Jonathan and Martha Kent
Jon Kent
Osul Ra and Otho Ra
John Henry Irons
Natasha Irons
Kon El/Conner Kent
Chris Kent/Lor Zod
Karen Starr
Kong Kenan
Superfamily characters of ANY comic book universe are acceptable. If you want to spend the entire fanweek exploring Ultraman and Injustice!Superman because you love drama, then be my guest! If you want Ultraman to kidnap Lois this time instead of Jon, go for it!! Let that imagination run WILD!!!
Darkfic, horrorfic, genre-specific work, and other both safe and not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell tropes are welcome. Just make sure that you post any Mature content on a landing page that doesn't restrict Mature content (like AO3). I don’t want anyone getting their blog banned. We cannot defeat our capitalist overlords, but we can definitely work around them.
This fanweek will not have a dedicated blog. These prompts are free for anyone to use. Because it is a non-traditional, non-monetized, and free-to-opt-in casual event, there will be no mods but moi, no advertising of paid services, and no ratings or participant restrictions. I will open a collection on AO3 in January for anyone who wants their work collated for this event.
In order to ensure that both creators and the audience are making informed decisions about what they engage with, all creators are encouraged to include triggers, ships, and any other squick warnings.
Please utilize the read-more function for fanworks that are longer than 250 words. We're tryna read yer stories, not get spammed with a wall of text. Please Be Courteous.
And last but not least - if you are engaging with any of the fanworks, reblog, reblog, reblog! Share the work with your followers. Send all the love to the creators for crafting their masterpieces!!
What can I contribute?
Fanart (standalones, comic strips, etc.), fanfiction (one-shots, multichapter, etc.), fanmixes, gifsets, graphics, meme collections, fanvids, whatever your heart desires! Go wild!!!
Can I create/write not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell content?
Yes!!! All creators are encouraged to include triggers warnings, sub-genre specifications, ships, and other warnings in their posts. I will not discourage you from writing your 16k Kara-goes-evil fic, but please... Be Courteous and tag your fanworks appropriately so people can make an informed decision on what they're comfortable with viewing.
What does (X) prompt mean?
Each day has two prompts!! You can either pick a prompt OR you can combine prompts in different ways. Let your imagination take you where you want to go with each prompt!! If you want to explore both in the same fanwork, then be my guest!!
Mainstream Canon, Elsewords, and AU content is acceptable! Just make sure to stay within the comicsverse. Creativity is key! Have fun!!!
Can I crackship/multiship/harem/OT3/polyam the characters?
Absolutely!!! Just please remember that this is the Soupeyfam horror week, not the Lois-Has-A-Harem-of-Elseworlds-Supermen week. We love ships and things, but this week is about the Superfamily. The characters can have their lovers, but their personal romantic dalliances shouldn't overtake the Soupeyfam dynamics (unless you're pulling a Cersei and Jaime, lmao, if that's the case, go wild).
Does this have a tag?
During release week, use the general “superfam” tag to share your work with the wider Superfam fandom on tunglr. You can use whatever other tags you fancy. The best way to share, however, is to directly @ me so that I may reblog it.
I didn’t read a damn thing before this, Ava.
TL;DR: Over three months until the fanweek!!! For all fanwork creators out there, now’s the time to start thinking about what prompts you want to utilize for your creations. There are no creative restrictions, but I do ask that you follow these posting tips:
All fanfiction should be under a read-more.
Not-safe-for-tunglr fanwork should be LINKED to whatever landing site the content is being hosted on (Twitter, AO3, etc). This includes both fanfiction and fanart. I don’t want your blog getting flagged bc tunglr hates gay people.
Provide content warnings for all triggers, squicks, and sub-genres. Unfortunately, in my ten odd years away from DC Comics, the fandom's seen a resurgence in puritanical behavior and tons of censorship and self-censorship. Please list content warnings on your work but do not be discouraged in sharing your work. If a fancop gets on your ass, block them. Please block as MANY as you can. They're like pests, they're always gonna be there, but their influence can be diminished by staunch blocking and reporting.
You can participate as much as you want!! Maybe you only wanna create for one day? Cool! Maybe you’re an overachieving corporate clown insomniac like myself, and wanna create for every day of the week? Go for it!!!
The most important thing is to have fun :)
Truth be told, this event is entirely selfish. I personally love to the horror genre, and would love to see the characters in the Superfamily get more canon content as seen through beloved horror tropes. Unfortunately, Status Quo often gets in the way, and the current fanworks are largely ambivalent to the Dreadful and Despairing. If you'd like to join me in creating deliciously dark fiction featuring our favorite DC clan, please do! I would love to read your 10k character study of Otho and Osul assimilating into human society after spending their formative years as slaves in Warworld.
We’re over three months away from release week, so take your time, look through the prompts, and get your creative juices flowing! I will be sending out reminders until the go-live date.
For the people who showed interest during the initial interest check, I hope you're able to participate. To the four people who hate me, your mom's a hoe. Thank you.

ramble-y post incoming:
tldr: is the inukag to izanori pipeline real, and am i falling headfirst into it? yes, yes i am.
[This post does contain spoilers for Kanata Kara and Inuyasha.]
recently (and by that i mean two days ago) i decided i wanted to start a shojo manga that wasn't too long, something I could read in between lectures. i checked some of my saved manga on the website i use, and found one that i had saved purely because i'd been enthralled by the cover art, which looked like this:
Tumblr media
(i mean, look at them!!)
...that, and it was 14 volumes, so I thought i could finish it within a week or two, reading a few chapters every day.
i was wrong. i'm on volume ten and it's been a day and a half.
i haven't finished and I'm making this post (partly because i've been rambling about it in ballistic keysmash-consistent twitter posts) to say that Kanata Kara is good. very, very good. damn that one-star review on the site i'm using, because that shit has to be an accidental click. I love the world-building, the diverse cast of characters, and the art is magnificent. I think my favorite thing of all has to be the themes represented so far in the manga, perpetuated by our titular characters noriko and izark. I may make a future post about that when i finish the manga, but there is one thing i noticed while reading that struck me as really interesting: the dynamic between izark and noriko, and the characters themselves, remind me a lot of inuyasha and kagome.
now i'm gonna preface this by saying i'm not trying to say that these are the same dynamics or something, because they aren't - I just want to point out parallels i thought were really interesting, as someone who loves both relationships in their respective mangas. i also want to establish that Kanata Kara predates Inuyasha by three to five years*- so what I really should be saying is that inuyasha and kagome remind me of izark and noriko, but you get the picture. you could argue a number of things with this in mind, but i'm not here to discuss any of that. this isn't meant to be some sort of dumb gotcha; both series are good in their own ways, and some of the similarities i'm highlighting can be attributed to similar tropes being at play!
*(sources vary, some say 1993, others say 1995)
izark/inuyasha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
demons - inuyasha is half inu-youkai, whereas izark is the sky demon from a prophecy that makes up much of the manga's internal and external conflict for him. an interesting contrast i found was that while inuyasha's half-demon features are present for the majority of the manga and his human side shows up only a handful of times, it's the exact opposite for izark, whose "human" appearance reigns for the majority of the manga.
both characters were shunned by their respective communities (and humanity at large, though inuyasha had his mother for some time, and izark's mother tried to kill him). when both parents died, they began living on the fringes of society, never interacting with anyone and, according to them, "preferring to be alone."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
both share moments where their demon sides take over and they are unable to control themselves - unless, of course, their loved one is present to help them. otherwise, both are trapped in a violent, bloodthirsty state of mind that makes them lose parts of their identity each time transformation is undergone. both try to avoid this part of them out of fear of losing themselves, but when occasions rise where they are in those forms, their respective loved ones pull them out of it/help them ground themselves.
powerful fighters willing to quite literally put everything on the line for their respective loved ones - i'm talking half-dead-dragging their-bodies-across-the floor and thinking "well, at least she's okay."
one interesting difference to me is how izark and inuyasha approach their humanity. izark is constantly shown in his "human" form and is only in his demon form a handful of times, and the exact opposite is true for inuyasha. izark's earlier (brief) plan of doing away with noriko is spurned from his desire to avoid the tragic fate tied with his demonic form, whereas inuyasha's earlier actions are motivated by his desire to become a full demon. izark relates his demon side to inevitability, to the idea that he might just become the monster everyone prophesied him to be; inuyasha (in the beginning) views his humanity with scorn and associates it with weakness. he wants to embrace the possibility of achieving full demon status, and why? is it just because he wants power? in my opinion, no - I think it's a way of finding a place; being free to go where he wants. inuyasha is already powerful in his own right, and even when he's given the opportunity to claim a formidable weapon like his father's sword, he says he has no interest in it (until, of course, kagome mentions he could try to claim it just to spite sesshomaru, and only then is his interest peaked.) inuyasha seeks freedom by assimilating into a full demon identity, izark seeks freedom from that full demon identity, and only then will he feel in control of his life.
kagome/noriko
Tumblr media Tumblr media
both from modern era japan and get isekaied into another world - kagome's instance is time-travel, though - noriko is transported to a whole other world with different culture, geography, and language (noriko having to learn the language of the people there and taking part in their customs is one of my favorite things about the manga!!)
the beacon of light in their respective groups/found family, bringing everyone together
key players in a "Prophecy of Doom" - kagome's "destiny" is to continue the cycle of the shikon jewel; noriko's "destiny" is to awaken the Sky Demon (izark). both girls, and their loved ones, change their futures.
damsels? maybe, but never in distress:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and, of course, the most prominent parallel for me: their acceptance of their lovers and the ripple effect that love has on their lovers' relationships and life:
"i'm not leaving you no matter what happens, no matter who you are - I will stay by your side":
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"you changed my life for the better":
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"i've opened up and become more vulnerable":
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are a ton of other examples i could use for this bullet, since it has a pretty broad spectrum of events that could fall under it, but these are my favorites.
i also want to draw attention to the way noriko deals with feeling powerless - both she and kagome are surrounded by powerful, experienced individuals, but unlike noriko, kagome has a reign on her archery and spiritual skills pretty early on in the manga, so she contributes in battles one way or another. one of noriko's longest internal conflicts is that she feels guilty that she can't do anything to help and that people are getting hurt on her behalf:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i absolutely love the advice given to her, and how it ties into the themes of the manga. noriko feels like she isn't helping, but even a simple thank you helps - even if it's just thanking one person for a single deed, everyone is intricately tied, and that goodwill spreads. it grows. it becomes a part of everyone. you don't have to be a fighter to spread good.
conclusion: the parallels are neat and READ KANATA KARA!

if gwaine found out about merlin's magic, destiny, and the reason for his behavior towards mordred, what do you think he would do, regarding merlin and merlin's relationship with him? would he meddle at all? would he try to get merlin to realize that he (merlin) has more to life than what his 'destiny' is. and therefore mordred probably does too?
i read a fic recently where it was like. "merlin realizes he has failed at his destiny and so reconciles w/mordred because he figured mordred too can fail at his destiny" but i dont know if the whole "merlin failed at his destiny" thing sits right with me. so much of it was on him, by the dragon and the fandom, but its supposed to be "two halves of the same coin" for a reason--they are supposed to be equals yet everyone is content to keep merlin delegated to the role of serving arthur and only arthur, rather than valuing himself as well, and arthur is just as much as fault for magic not coming to camelot because arthur is king and is very much still prejudiced against magic for the most part. thats not on merlin. at a certain point you have to realize that arthur is a grown man he cannot be coddled forever, especially as a king?
if gwaine found out about merlin's magic, destiny, and the reason for his behavior towards mordred, what do you think he would do, regarding merlin and merlin's relationship with him? would he meddle at all? would he try to get merlin to realize that he (merlin) has more to life than what his 'destiny' is. and therefore mordred probably does too?
Easy answer: he’d fuck Merlin against a wall.
Complex answer: I think for Merlin, he already knew that it was possible for Mordred to fail in his destiny… if Mordred died, at least. As far as he was concerned, only one of them could fail/succeed, because just as Merlin was destined to protect Arthur even though he hated him at first, Mordred was destined to kill Arthur even if he did seem to like him. Merlin’s goal is essentially to make sure Mordred fails in his destiny so that he can succeed in his own. Kilgharrah warns Merlin from the start that the only way to ensure this is to kill him, or so Kilgharrah thinks.
I believe that both of their destinies were going to inevitably be fulfilled at some point. If Mordred died, he could still be Arthur’s Bane because we’ve seen a Druid ghost come back to seek revenge against Arthur. And even at his most accepting, Arthur was still pretty lukewarm towards magic, seeing “good magic” as an exception to its default “evil” state (as expressed in 5x05 and 5x09). Therefore, everything with Kara could still happen even if Arthur welcomed the Old Religion back to Camelot, since he doesn’t understand the true extent of his bias.
If Gwaine found out about Merlin’s magic, I think he would have some divided reactions. For one thing, he is pretty much unquestioningly loyal to Merlin and would most certainly accept Merlin as “one of the good ones” among sorcerers. The problem with this: he may believe that sorcerers are bad by default, much like Arthur does. He would probably not question Merlin’s judgment of Mordred much, though we never see Gwaine’s stance on prophecy/destiny, but he would notice the toll that this prophecy is taking on Merlin, as he’s shown to worry over Merlin when he’s aware of his distress (see: seasons 3-5). His prioritization of Merlin could lead to him minimizing the importance or overall possibility of the prophecy. However, he doesn’t take threats to Arthur’s life lightly, either, so it’s kind of hit or miss there.
Ultimately, for all that Merlin can try to advise him, it’s up to Arthur to fix his own biases. Merlin can’t do it for him. If Merlin stood by and did nothing, the end results would be more or less the same as when he tries everything—though maybe Arthur dies a decade or so earlier. Whereas if Arthur accepts magic, then maybe something changes. But the prophecy implies that the perfect balance comes from some equivalent effort between both Merlin and Arthur… which doesn’t happen, because Merlin is putting in all of the effort, and Arthur isn’t pulling his own weight.
On the bright side, if Gwaine knows about Merlin’s magic, maybe he gets to stick by Merlin’s side through the whole finale?

I was chatting with @sideguitars about how hard titles are, and remembered how much I beat my head against the wall trying to name my Worldkiller Kara AU. Ideas included:
Child of Juru
The Power of Yuda Kal
The Power of the Beast
The Prophecy of Rozz
From Rao's Fire
The last one is the only one I even vaguely liked, but it had the disadvantage of making no damn sense with the mythology of the worldkillers.
Finally, on yet another rewatch of Jindah's Fort Rozz scenes, the line "you are a child living in light, but there is darkness in all things" jumped out at me, and I knew I had a title.

I’m gonna lose my mind okay so a common complaint I see about Merlin is that Arthur didn’t keep his promise to the druids but he fucking did!
He’d already been leaving druids alone by the time he became king in season 4. The last conflict he had with them was at the end of season 3 and that was only because he was desperate to keep the cup of life out of Cenred’s hands. Come season 5 he continued to leave druids alone to do their thing without his interference, which I think is pretty much what druids wanted since they seem to be a pretty insular community. But there’s more to show that Arthur respected them!
Mordred is right there. Mordred is a knight and Arthur knows he’s a Druid. I understand the confusion there, as Morgana implies that Arthur doesn’t know what Mordred is but she’s speaking about magic not being a Druid. Arthur rescued Mordred as a boy, and clearly recognizes him. It would be hard for him to forget that he rescued a Druid boy, especially when Mordred goes out of his way to say Arthur saved his life as a child. Later, when Mordred admits to trying to help Kara and admits to being a Druid, Arthur is not surprised or shocked or dismayed. He asks Mordred to stand and speaks to him as a fellow knight. And we’ve seen how Arthur reacts when he feels like he’s been lied to or betrayed. This was not that reaction.
In fact Arthur’s promise to the druids not only advances his character development, but explicitly allows for the return of Mordred. If Arthur still had issues with the druids, Mordred’s return would have caused conflict that isn’t there. The conflict is Merlin not trusting Mordred because of the prophecy. Arthur is happy to have Mordred in Camelot.
It’s also important to note that Kara brings up druids in her defense at her trial. Arthur goes out of his way to say he has no quarrel with the druids and that they are peaceful people. That is further proof that Arthur has not had a conflict with druids since the ghost possession in season 4.
Magic is still outlawed (mostly because magic as a whole just views Arthur as an extension of Uther and tries to kill him) but Arthur kept his promise to the druids. He doesn’t know that druids can be sorcerers too. No druid ever used magic against him, and it’s unclear how many druids actually have magic. Other than the Druid mind speak, the only Druid who uses magic is Mordred. Arthur likely also differentiates between the Old Religion and having magic, since Gaius tells Arthur that many people still worship it in season 4.
Would it have been cool to see Arthur breaking bread with druids? Maybe. But the point of the show is the tragedy. It’s dealing with the fact that Arthur and Merlin come so close to achieving peace (peace with druids, then Arthur’s promise to the Dolma) only to fail.
TL;DR Mordred is proof that Arthur kept his promise to the druids.

Rarepair fave is def Merdred, those mfs had Vibes™ that were just.... Something else. Like, they needed to be locked in a room so they could either talk it out, fight it out, or fuck it out. Something. Anything. Because I really think if not for that goddamn prophecy, Merlin would like Mordred! A lot! Another sorcerer that's actually on his side, actively helping him! Tbh, I think he liked him in canon, even though he didn't want to, which just adds to the Angst of them.
Fave scenes of them are in "With All My Heart" when Mordred says he hopes he and Merlin can be friends and you can just see Merlin internally screaming at a volume to break glass, and in "The Drawing of the Dark" when Mordred asks why Merlin always thinks the worst of him, and again, you can see that moment of Merlin just being weighted by what he knows and being unable to say it.
And for a fic rec: https://archiveofourown.org/works/25627360 (it is smut, but there are also feels, and it's Mordred POV)
FINALLY! THANK YOU!
I really think if not for that goddamn prophecy, Merlin would like Mordred! A lot!
He did like him! He said it himself!
GAIUS: If Mordred wished Arthur ill, he has had ample opportunity to do so. He's a likeable boy, Merlin. MERLIN: I know. I like him myself, but I can't ignore what I saw. — From The Disir, Ep 5x05
That's what makes it tragic, they could get on, they could be friends, they actually have much in common — but Merlin can't afford to get close to Mordred because of what he knows/thinks Mordred's going to do.
Here's my thoughts about this ship:
Arguments in favour:
• ENEMIES TO LOVERS
• the delicate balance of power: Alex and Colin go on quite a bit about Mordred and Merlin's relationship in the commentary to ep 5x02. Mordred technically outranks Merlin, given he's a knight and Merlin is just a servant, but also Merlin is Emrys and, as a Druid, Mordred is aware (and likely in awe) of his role and power. And they are both the unwilling keeper of the other's secret, as they both have to hide their magic in Camelot. It makes for an interesting dynamic.
• Like I said, it's tragic that Merlin had to keep Mordred at arm's length (emotionally) because they had some common ground: they both loved Arthur — I mean they both cared about him, and they both had faith in him. Mordred believed that Arthur would bring about a golden age just as much as Merlin did! They both yearned for peace, and they both had to stain their hands with blood to survive. They both had to go through so much trauma.
KARA: You're a knight. MORDRED: That doesn't matter. KARA: Of Camelot. Why, Mordred? MORDRED: Arthur is a good man. KARA: I can't believe you'd say that. MORDRED: You don't know him. — From The Drawing of the Dark, Ep 5x11
• As with Sefa, I think Merlin could benefit from having a Druid partner.
• Merlin glaring at Mordred is pretty hot. He also gets slammed into a wall by him which, again. Pretty hot.
• They could literally mind-fuck each oth— [gunshot sound]
Fave scenes of them are in "With All My Heart" when Mordred says he hopes he and Merlin can be friends and you can just see Merlin internally screaming at a volume to break glass, and in "The Drawing of the Dark" when Mordred asks why Merlin always thinks the worst of him, and again, you can see that moment of Merlin just being weighted by what he knows and being unable to say it.
Both great scenes! I love all the scenes they have together, I think. The way Mordred always looks and sounds vaguely menacing without doing or saying anything outright evil. They way he is desperate for Merlin's approval :(
My favourite Merlin & Mordred scene has to be the one from episode 5x05 (The Disir).
Tumblr media
MERLIN: It won't always be like this. One day we will live in freedom again. MORDRED: You really believe that? MERLIN: I do. Beat. They both look down at the grave. MORDRED: Until then, we go unmarked in death as in life. — From The Disir, Ep 5x05
It's a rare moment of bonding between them. Mordred appeals to their shared nature ("he was one of us") and, for once, Merlin puts down his defences. He offers Mordred a few words of comfort ("It won't always be like this"). And then Mordred hits him with that fucking PROFOUND line and Merlin doesn't know what to do with it.
Tumblr media
This is not the horrible future-murderer he's made Mordred up to be in his head. This is a boy with hope in his eyes and kindness in his heart (still). It speaks so much of what they could have been if destiny hadn't got in the way. (I've also gone on about Merlin's complicated relationship with other magic folks in another post. Yes, I have many feelings about it).
I love that scene from ep 5x11, too, ("Everything I do, you think the worst") — probably my second favourite scene with these two.
It starts out with Merlin being so confrontational and aggressive, but it ends with Merlin deciding to trust Mordred, for once. Perhaps reluctantly, but he does.
It's tragic that he seems to open up to Mordred when it's too late. I've touched on before on why I think it is that it happens at this moment. Merlin has literally been in Mordred's position. In fact, some of the dialogue in this scene echoes Merlin and Gaius's confrontation in ep 2x09, when Merlin was ready to run away with Freya.
If that wasn't clear enough, we also have Mordred asking Merlin directly:
Tell me you wouldn't do the same for the woman you love.
But of course Merlin would. He has. Well, he's tried to.
But again, because of what he knows about Mordred, Merlin can't let Mordred escape, even though he gets what he's trying to do, and doesn't blame him for trying.
I also like when Mordred angrily confronts Merlin later in the same episode. His outburst shows how he is well aware of how unfairly Merlin has been treating him, and although he's been remarkably chill about it up until now, it doesn't mean he's not angry and resentful about it. He may not show his emotions much, but he's not unfeeling.
"You did it because you hate me", he says, and "This time you've gone too far!"
THIS IS A MAN WHO'S HAD ENOUGH. It's also a reminder of how much Mordred has been putting up with — for all he knows, Merlin hates him for no good reason. I think it says something about Mordred's nature that he only truly snaps when Merlin's meddling threatens the person he loves. MY STABBY CHILD IS FULL OF LOVE OKAY
I just think they have such an interesting dynamic!
I can see why they wouldn't be a super popular pairing, given Merlin's attitude to Mordred in the show and what Mordred ends up doing. And also the age gap, I guess (I personally don't find it too weird because the actors are so clearly close in age that it can be easily brushed off, but I can see why other people might find it off-putting).
Fanfics
THANK YOU for the fic rec anon, I've skim-read it and it looks very much up my alley ♡
I actually haven't gone looking for many Merlin/Mordred fics. I've a read a few ages ago, most of them just short ficlets, but I only have one bookmarked. It's the fic that put Merlin/Mordred on my radar:
Set in Stone by EachPeachPearPlum (on AO3).
It's a relatively long fic (almost 50k words), so there is space to explore Merlin and Mordred's relationship.
I actually read it before watching the show properly (I basically watched a bunch on scenes from the show and dipped my toes in fanfiction before deciding to watch all of the series).
I haven't re-read it since, and I don't even remember how it ultimately deals with the whole prophecy thing, if it even gets to that point (I think the author meant for this to be part of a series but they didn't continue, although this story is complete). But the prophecy was addressed, with what I thought was an interesting twist.
(I won't say anything too spoiler-y in case anyone wants to check it out, but Mordred is actually aware of the prophecy and he even knows an extra bit about Merlin which Merlin himself doesn't know about. It's revealed pretty early in the story, so it's not really a spoiler).
It touches on some aspects of Merlin and Mordred's relationship that I find fascinating, so I think it's worth a read if you're interested in this pair.
Random lil' excerpt:
"I am not a child, Emrys," Mordred hisses, leaning in close; Merlin suspects he's going for menacing, but all it really comes off as is petulant, which sort of proves his point. "I was the last time you tried to kill me, but not now." And then there are words in Merlin's head, words he is powerless to stop, filled with a rage that is everything and nothing all at once. Keep your reasons to yourself, Emrys, but do not try to placate me with what we both know are lies. Mordred stands then, the expression on his face one of youthful rage, burning bright and burning quickly, and Merlin wishes he was right. If Mordred wasn't so young, Merlin could kill him without hesitation, could dream about him without hating himself (or without hating himself quite so much, since the fact that Mordred is destined to destroy everything Merlin is destined to protect is at least as much of a concern as Mordred's age). This could all be over and done with, one way or another. "Get out of here, Mordred," Merlin snarls. "You live because I let you, and you live for as long as I let you. Do not tempt me."
I JUST THINK IT'S HOT WHEN HE THREATENS TO MURDER PEOPLE OKAY
I'm just going to bring this post back to your attention. There are dozens of us! (people who find mean Merlin sexy). DOZENS
As a final note — my Italian brain refuses to call this ship Merdred. There's got to be a better name for it 😭

Stuff I Watched This Past Week Or So
Completed-
Tumblr media
FLCL: This show rules, love the characters, plot was interesting and didn't explain much but also, you never needed to explain every last detail when its arguably more fun to speculate on that stuff. 9/10
Tumblr media
Karas: The Prophecy- Watch for the action, npt the plot. Characters are meh and the plot goes no where, hints of one but I couldn't really find any overall themes or really interesting things it did. Expected more gore tbh. I heard this was released as two movies in the states and the other one has a better plot, but just watch the fights online, there is barely any story to be told here lol. 5.5/10
Tumblr media
Anyone But You: "The Straights Are At It Again: The Movie" . Had some funny bits I guess but really stunk overall, kinda hated it by the end despite thinking the set up had a fun concept behind it. 4/10
Tumblr media
Kamen Rider W: One of the best tokusatsu's I have seen, one of the best shows I have seen period. Its themes of memory, vengeance, death and loss are covered perfectly. It has amazing music, fight scenes, characters, it has everything. If you like tokusatsu, detective shows, crime shows, whatever it is, GIVE IT A WATCH! 10/10
Tumblr media
The Iron Claw:  A powerful tragedy that was depressing as fuck to watch at points but so interesting to see. A bit goofy acting at points and WOW those wigs, plus it isn't that historically accurate, but I dont think it entirely brings the film down, especially with wrestling being more or less a backdrop to, you know, the tragedy at hand and how shitty Fritz Von Erich is. 7.5/10
Tumblr media
Godzilla Minus One- GOSEEITGOSEEITGOSEEIT AAAAAA. Seriously, its amazing and best if you go in blind, take my word for it please. 10/10
Continued-
Tumblr media
Futurama (Current Season/Episode S4EP4): Love this show! Where was it when I was in high school! Why did I watch south Park over this??
Tumblr media
Ultraman Tiga (Current Episode 39):watching this as I type it, every episode is pretty fun, either being really visually and aesthetically cool or giving us what, to me at least, is interesting to see for a Ultra show (mainly talking about episodes 37 and 38 here, 37 is really trippy and beautiful, while 38's plot is "hey lets create mass panic for research purposes and also just lie to the people we have to protect, because we are the good guys!" and thankfully its not presented as a good thing lol)
Started
Tumblr media
Gundam Seed- Watched the first two episodes and, eh, its ok so far. but im interested to see where it goes. its my first time watching a gundum show so hopefully its good
Tumblr media
Kamen Rider Faiz- Creepy fantasy sci fi with fun tech modeled after the peak of society, the early 2000s.

hi Kara!!! 16 wips!! I am obsessed!! Can you please tell me about they tasted like blood (like love) and the ghost thing?? 🫶🏻🫶🏻
HEY LOVELY!!! ik 16 wips is craaazzzzy to me i have no idea how my list got that long like actually how did that happen but YES i absolutely can!!
they tasted like blood (like love) is a quillkiller fic inspired by this short play that i'm slightly feral over. it's called 'the closed doors' by pauline albanese (and you can get it on kindle for like 3 quid!!) and it's a hades and persephone retelling that just actually shot me down dead on the spot but anyway ig the fic is also a hades and persephone au but it's quite dark and slightly obscene but also with this tiny little gentle touch to it and i'm insane about it!!! INSANNEEEEEE!!!
here's a tiny litttle incy wincy snippet for you darling:
“Let me go!” she shouts, punching the door again, she didn’t deserve to be locked up like this, to be trapped in this living tomb, this place of ash and rot. Bellatrix punches the door again, and again, and again, until her hand is bleeding. Blood is the only thing that flows in this place.
and THE GHOST THING!!!! the can of worms you've just opened skye oh my godddd but this is my precious ghost sybillily baby i love it so much
it's set after lily and james are killed, and the war is over, and sybill is working at hogwarts still (and like... i've talked about sybill in this post of mine so this is the vibe like she is just struggling all the time to me actually) but one night she's visited in her dreams by the ghost of lily who has come to kill her bc she blames sybill for the prophecy and for the fact that she's now dead (... much in the same way that sybill blames herself) and there's a snippet of that here if ur interested
but anyway after that lily sticks around.... tries to kill sybill a couple more times but eventually is just like. there. and sybill is SO confused bc that isn't meant to happen, the ghosts aren't meant to be there when she's AWAKE and she's not meant to be able to feel them so she's like throwing herself further into divination to try and figure out what's going on and what it all means and she's slowly losing her grip on reality and she's falling apart at the seams but she's also oddly comforted bc now lily is there she. isn't alone anymore, lily is there w her all the time, even in her nightmares and the horrors of her mind, and she finds herself so drawn to this crazy murderous ghost of a woman...... and then lily disappears!!
not gonna tell you why she disappears (bc i'm not entirely sure myself lmao) but she disappears and sybill is alone again. or even more alone than before bc now she has to spend the rest of her life wondering if any of it was even real, if it actually happened or if it was just in her head...
anyway i could go on but i feel like this is already Far too long but oh my god i'm obsessed with my ghost thing she's so important to me

Pre-Crisis S5 AU. A DEO case involving a Lex Luthor copycat alien-killer forces Kara to visit Lillian Luthor in prison to help solve the mystery, since after the Myriad debacle Lena is refusing to answer Kara’s calls. Any HC’s on how a team-up with an emotionally vulnerable Kara and a jailed Lillian would go?
Ohhhhhh Lillian would milk the hell out of this. Especially since it's the self-fulfilled prophecy Lillian had laid out for Kara at the end of S2, about how when Lena learns the lie, she'll hate Kara for it.
But what would be even juicier is if Lena went back to Lillian after the reveal. Lena puts it together that her mother likely knew, seeing as how Lex did. And Lillian's resulting frankness is a balm to Lena's newly raw edges. She starts visiting the prison in earnest, reconnecting with her mother in a way they never had a chance to before.
But neither Lena nor Kara know that Lillian is speaking regularly with the other, until one day Kara shows up unexpectedly mid-Lena visit. They're both shocked, and Lillian watches with relish as Lena starts hurling accusations at her former best friend and Kara helplessly tries to counter them, to no avail.
When Lena storms out, maybe THAT'S when Lillian has her I-told-you-so.
"I warned you," she might say.
Kara doesn't deny it, only sighs as her shoulders droop. "Will she forgive me?"
Lillian regards her solemnly. "Once upon a time, I would have said never. But Lena's time in National City has softened her. Whether that will work in your favor or not-- who can say?"
Not exactly hope, but not exactly the biting cruelty Kara expects. The weight on her shoulders lifts, just a fraction.
Maybe, even now... she still has a chance.

*slams hands on table* the parallel between sefa's and kara's judgement. how those judgements are inherently an insight into to the respective monarchs and advisors overseeing their trials. how the results of those judgements foreshadow the respective duos. kara dies and mordred grieves, just as arthur dies and merlin grieves. sefa runs away and survives even as she loses everything, just as gaius and gwen do.
neither gwen nor arthur know of the magic that gaius and merlin possess. but merlin and arthur have the added hyperfocus on each other's approval and safety but gwen and gaius do not. that's why they work so well together - because they are distant enough to stand their ground against each other but close enough to know the other and work together. gaius told gwen about the prophecy of arthur's death at the hands of druid - something that merlin never told arthur about.
and in the finale we see those duos again in an ending of their own making. merlin and arthur far away from their kingdom, encased in a cycle of tragedy, because when the time called for it they could not look beyond each other's happiness and wellbeing. gaius and gwen at the heart of camelot, the oldest member of the castle and the youngest monarch, standing in the dawn of the golden age, because they were the ones who could look beyond prophecies even if they believed in them.

The moment Merlin began justifying the deaths of others to protect Arthur is the moment he doomed Camelot
In the beginning, he would've never kill another being unless they were a direct threat to someone's life. he would've absolutely never killed someone based on a prophecy that said he had to.
His shift in perspective about that after Morgana and how he justified Mordred's death as a necessary evil even though he was no longer a direct threat is what eventually pit Mordred against Arthur.
If Merlin had taught Arthur the ways of the old religion that day outside the Disir's cave, Arthur would've begun shifting his perspective around magic and many of the sorcerer's and druids would've seen this and not have been pushed to fight with Morgana for their freedom. Kara would not have made herself an enemy of the kingdom and Merlin would've never betrayed Mordred. She might have even changed her loyalty to be to Arthur seeing how he was changing his views of magic and no longer persecuting those who used it. Maybe if Merlin had been more welcoming of Mordred, he would've felt more welcomed in Camelot and more hopeful of a future where he could practice magic freely.
But this could never happen because after seeing how far Morgana was willing to go and coming to terms with how much damage his decisions to help Morgana in the past and to not kill her despite Kilgarrah's warnings have caused. And now he's scared that his decision to help Mordred all those years ago will bring about Arthur's death as was prophesized and is scrambling to prevent that. He feels guilty and scared and is acting on those emotions and because of that Mordred will be pushed to betray Arthur
