how to make your writing be remembered forever and possibly be well loved.

(incredibly stupid and silly fanfiction line at the end of this post) I know that title is incredibly daunting but listen, its very simple. you ready?

MAKE STRONG CHARACTERS

"but kat! surely its not that simple! " nononono listen. bear with me. I want you to think of your favorite thing. Now ask: what do you remember the most about the thing you love? I will go first:

I love team fortress 2. and guess what: this game has been around since 2007, and was in development hell since before I was even born. The game has been around for 16 fucking years. And guess what? in the strong year of 2023 team fortress 2 Is STILL getting memed about. and do you want to know the crazy part? the character designs to the naked eye are not special at all. ok sure from a designer standpoint, these are very well designed characters made so that you can easily tell who they are based on their silhouette. but from the average joe.... tf2 is iconic but overall it looks ok. it doesn't seem special to a stranger to tf2. look at this completely random and arbitrary example of a game in the same genre:

I don't know shit about the characters in overwatch. Yeah i have a BASIC idea on what their personality is like based on voice lines and some videos i guess... but in-game they just exist. these characters are brightly colored, they have beautiful unique designs, hell they have even more diversity such as robots and people from other cultures! but i don't remember shit about these characters. Maybe I remember the ice lady and tracer, but nothing else. and yeah part of overwatch struggling right now is incompetant development, BUT: The characters in team fortress 2 are SO remember-able because the characters have such a vibrant personality. I am an orange box owner, its been a decade and a half and I am still remembering this game and enjoying art about it.

"but kat! that is a comedy game! Overwatch is a very serious game! are you saying comedy is needed to make a character more noticeable?" no. though I think allowing your characters to lighten up every now and then would humanize them. Not full on goofy, just give them something that makes them likeable. and if you cant do that, you can STILL make a compelling character even though they are mostly seriousness. I have an even more awfully thought out example:

kung fu panda is a masterclass in making a serious comedic movie somehow work. Master Oogway.... he isn't a comedic character at all. Yeah we made memes about him, but ignoring that, he is a wise and resourceful person. He is at calm and has faith in this intuition. there are a lot of characters like this. What makes Oogway stand out is that he is also a little bit kooky and sassy.

this youtube clip sums up what I mean. It is a funny line, it fits the character, and It doesn't ruin the seriousness of the moment. Some of the most successful series in history have something about them that has appealed to people. In my opinion: characters with strong personality and interesting traits is always a good way to ensure your writing is successful. The second most important is the characters bouncing off of each other in terms of their chemistry with each other. There is a reason why I spent years playing the first Destiny game and all of the DLC, but I remember fuck all about the characters. I think I maybe remember the bootleg star lord robot guy.

A writing exercise

here is an exercise to get you in the spirit of character making. step 1- get a random character from a random bit of media. In this case let me bring you master Oogway. Step 2- Get a completely different character from a completely unrelated series. I am going to give you Scout from team fortress 2. step 3- write a random ass thing about them interacting. Think about how the characters would react to each other and why. Think about each characters values in life and think about how they would bond and conflict with each other. Think about characters similar to the character they met in the past and how they reacted then, and if they have never interacted, make something interesting with it. Step 4- keep experimenting. Once you get into the spirit you can apply this to any new character you could want to make anyways thats it byeee- "arent you going to do that ?" do what? "make a writing thing about oogway and scout. " ........

Scout: let's go turtle you got nothing on my speed- Oogway: The one who first resorts to violence shows that he has no more arguments. Scout: that sounds like chicken talk! come on tough guy let me have it- Oogway then proceeds to make scout eat shit before vanishing in a cloud of cherry blossoms and dust from the desert. If this post isn't popular I want you to know my dignity was lost for nothing.

I am once again thinking about an AU

Specifically a selkie Steve

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good werewolf Steve (get it, hairy beast, the hair, harrington) because protective mom Steve is just (insert emperors new groove meme here)

But! Selkie Steve, who’s mom is a Selkie and his dad has her pelt so she can’t leave him even when she hates him for constantly being unfaithful. And his pelt is locked up in his father’s safe, a way to control him because obviously he needs to uphold their family’s image while they’re gone and he needs a threat to do a good job

But when he gets kicked out, his father throwing his pelt at him and telling him to get lost, he never wants to see him again, and he doesn’t know where to go but it’s imperative he NEVER lets anyone near his pelt because he can’t be held captive like that again (oh hello trauma response)

No one knows, of course, because he can’t be a freak, even if he knows none of them would ever think that because their friend is a literal experiment with super powers, but like he can’t logic his way out of fear, not when he’s been raised to know he’s a monster because of what he is

Except he falls in love and he’s terrified because he wants to trust Eddie, who’s sweet and a freak but proud and who would protect him because he stands up for all the freaks. But he can’t because his brain doesn’t care about logic, doesn’t care that Eddie wouldn’t hurt him

But one night he’s so tired, he’s exhausted, training to be an emt is hard and he misses Robin because she’s at school and yeah, they talk every day but it’s not the same as when he could spend all day side by side with her (she misses him too and never misses their scheduled phone call time (at least an hour long) because I love their codependency and they’re definitely like those bonded kittens that you have to adopt both together)

But he’s so tired that he forgets his coat on the arm of the couch

He sleeps in late and Eddie, up early because he was so excited planning a new campaign that he never actually went to sleep, sees this beautiful, soft, furry looking coat. And part of him wants to just bury his face in it, because he knows it’ll smell like Steve and also he has lots of impulses about touching things that are soft, but something tells him not to. So he smooths it out where it’s a little wrinkled, but leaves it right where Steve left it

When Steve wakes up to a note from eddie saying he went to the store and will be back soon, and finds his pelt still there, right where he left it but neater now, he panics a little. Except. Eddie could have taken it, he’s taken other clothing (borrowed - technically, sort of, he doesn’t really give it back so much as Steve takes it back knowing full well he’ll borrow other stuff soon enough) but he left it there.

So he tests him again. And again. I read a story I forget where (probably here) about a Selkie leaving her pelt on a chair over and over before demanding in tears why the other woman won’t take it and keep her and that’s exactly the angst I want for them. He demands to know why Eddie won’t keep him, what isn’t good enough

And like that other story (folktale?) Eddie says he doesn’t want to keep Steve, he wants him to stay on his own accord, his own choice

And then the pelt goes into the closet, not a safe, because it’s Steve’s choice and he can go (but why would he want to?)

(Eddie does end up burying his face in the pelt at one point, it smells like Steve and the ocean (ignore that there’s no oceans nearby there’s a lake it’s fine) and it’s soft, but he still prefers to bury his face in Steve’s chest)

So here it is. Assume, for the purposes of debate, that Marj and Joan and everyone else decided joining the Air Force was more exciting than joining the Airborne

He wished she could be outside.

The weather was fine, for December - one of those bright, cold blue days where there was clear visibility for miles and every single pilot in the camp was itching to get his hands back into the yoke of his plane. The camp was almost bearable, on those days where you wouldn't want to be up in the soup - but on days like this? Being ground-bound was agony.

Gale glanced back up at the sky, half-wishing for a wisp of cloud - or the glimpse of a plane. Not that he'd ever get one - at the first sound of engine noise the guards would give the order to have everyone out of the yards and back inside the barracks, fearful that whatever they saw overhead would give away more news of the war.

But for some, even the scant pleasures of the winter sunlight were far away.

Gale ducked back inside the room he shared with the others, making his way carefully around the table with his hands in his coat pockets so he could pull up a chair next to one of the bunks, and the woman lying there reading a book.

She looked up at the scrape of his boots in the door. "Hey you. What happened to enjoying the sunshine?"

"Was coming to see my best girl," Gale said with a brief smile, lowering himself down onto the nearest crate. "How's the leg?"

Marj shifted a little in the narrow bunk, her breathing hitching a little. The bunks here weren't made for tall men or women, and Bucky and Marj both found it challenging to keep themselves where they were allotted - especially with Marj's leg still in its cast. She'd broken it on her jump, and letting it sit and fester for nearly a week certainly hadn't helped matters. She'd arrived at Stalug Luft III on a stretcher and in the throes of a fever that should have killed her, and the doctor had only just recently let her out of the infirmary and back into the general compound. "Still hurts. They tell me it's set fine, and now it's just a matter of letting it heal." She tried to smile. "You'll have to tell Bucky I don't think I'm gonna be able to pitch the next game."

"He'll understand."

"Or you'll make him?" Marj suggested with a wry smile. "I know how you work, Gale Cleven."

She knows me too well, he thought to himself. "If anyone catches him complaining about it, John'll have me to answer to," Gale promised. "You're too important to lose, Marj Gordon." Too important to me, he almost said, words to put paid to the thing they didn't say aloud, the thing that had no name. What kind of man lets a woman do his fighting? All the papers at home were filled with talk like that. The kind who trusts her to win just as well as he can, he always wanted to say. But it was one thing to win, and another to take on a green co-pilot because good pilots were spread thin, and lose your fort in a flak field, and bail out over Germany, and break your leg, and end up in a camp. He should have fought harder to keep her in his plane. Maybe if he'd done that she wouldn't have -

He sniffled, trying to hide whatever blush might have come out in his cheek and pulled something out of his pocket. "Here, brought you something," he said, holding out the can of Spam. "Traded some spare socks for it."

Marj set her book aside and took the can with reverent hands. Food was gold here, and it was a holy day indeed when you had a whole can of something to call your own. She looked up at him with conflicted eyes, the both of them knowing full well the can hadn't been traded for a single spare pair of socks. "Buck."

"Not going have that leg heal right on soup," he replied, refusing to rise to the accusation in her voice. "And we ought to find you a - a pair of crutches or something. Need to get you out, moving around again."

"You're not gonna offer me your arm?" Marj asked with only slight provocation.

Gale steeled himself, hating how much he loved the idea. Marjorie Gordon, if I do that they'll know I'm in love with you, he thought silently to himself. And I can't let them have that.

A Leg to Stand On

I want to start by saying the art and essay were non-malicious; even this isn't meant to be aggressive, and I took no offense to A Rebuttal of a Rebuttal. I’ll get more into why I wrote Criticizing the Attorney at the end of this, but I drew the art because Kat looked fun to draw, and I’ve had that meme with her and Ben in my head for almost a year. Since you released your latest youtube video, it reminded me of the idea, and I had to finally get it out. As I said in the tags of that post, you (Cat) are free to do whatever you want with the image.

Now—my essay wasn't about me arguing what should and should not have happened, it was about critiquing the defense. "The right thing to do" and "what I would like to see happen" are two separate things. I don't feel bad for Harangue, and I thought that moment where Ben, turned human, continued hitting Vilgax was a great scene, for all the reasons Cat pointed out in her section.

I will concede:

In Ultimate Alien, Ben is a deputized agent of the Plumbers. By OV, it seems he's no longer fully affiliated with the Plumbers. Ben being a special agent absolutely makes sense.

I wrote my essay entirely by American standards. I don't know how Plumber law works; we only have scraps and hints laid out throughout the franchise. From what I could see of it, it's pretty heavily based on US law, but I can't claim for sure that it's all 1 to 1.

It's true, I made assumptions too, but the "he might've had a breakdown" part felt a bit... odd? To me, like that was a little too specific. But at the same time, even writing about that in the original response, I did feel like I was being a bit of a hypocrite.

By the standards I laid out, Rook absolutely has committed police brutality in the past. I've talked about that with friends privately before; I strongly dislike and disagree with Rook's tactics and beliefs. I actually have a shelved essay on how I dislike the plumbers as a whole, and I might pick it back up again.

I disagree/will stand by my original points:

“Do you really think the galactic courts would side with Vilgax over Ben on a debate about excessive use of force?”

No, but I think if Vilgax had some decent lawyers, they would absolutely make that argument. (That actually sounds like a normal UA episode plot...)

They were indeed too lenient, but they were following procedure, unlike Ben. Procedure sucks, but it's there for a reason. It's not the best reason, but it's better than having no procedure. That's kind of part of the limitation of science fiction; it's always written from the perspective of someone living in current time, with current technology, and their current laws. It's hard to think of anything better if you're a liberal if you only know all you've ever known, hence why space cop procedure still sucks, despite being set up by super advanced and hyper intelligent aliens. The writers seemed to be less interested in “what would the most ideal legal system look like?” and were more focused on portraying “Cops… in SPACE!”

Moving on: even if Haragnue went unpunished, Ben still wouldn't have been in the right to punish him; Harangue should've gone through the system. Harangue being rich and powerful makes that harder, but not impossible. Harangue was supposed to be a sort of Alex Jones type parody, and Alex Jones had his day in court and lost. I honestly think it'd've been interesting to see him get processed, if written by someone capable of pulling off a plot like that. It all depends on what kind of fantasy you want to go for; UA might've taken that up, but it was only natural that OV took the path it took.

I don't think Harangue was really hurt by being turned into an alien, but if Harangue decided to sue, he would absolutely have a leg to stand on. That was my main point: both Vilgax and Haragnue have cases.

Ben has MUCH STRONGER cases against them, but that's another story—one I hope to dive into in the future.

I always felt like your arguments could’ve been more objective. I wanted to try my hand at scratching this itch that was kind of bugging me about these takedowns, almost like stress-testing it. I could've added more "here's a better defense for Ben," but hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

I was intending to do more, but the flame kind of fizzled out after writing the one. It actually helped the juices flowing for general essays on Ben 10; a few I’m working on now are Diagnosing Benjamin Kirby Tennyson, Ben is Unintentionally a Queer Icon, and (Possibly) Why Ben Tried to Murder Kevin—the last one being my attempt to answer that without using the “Ben’s just evil” argument.

Lastly, I understand why Lunany called me AB, but I enjoy going by Suzie.

experience / how many years : Ohhh boy. I've been doing the rp thing off and on since 2010. There was a five year chunk in recent years where I disappeared for a bit but the lovely @sharpayevcns pulled me back in a few months ago and I am so appreciative that she did. <3 

best experience : Discovering the people here that make me feel safe enough to obsess over threads. You guys have absolutely made my return to tumblr. If I were to delete my blog with nothing but my connection with you guys to show for it - Well I would be absolutely fine with that. You guys are amazing and will absolutely be tagged in this. 

rp pet peeves : I keep running into situations where I get heavily invested in plotting something (Drawing, writing head cannons, making playlists, planning cannon events. . .I literrally brushed up on a whole ass language for a plot) Only to have those people completely leave me on read. I am not a pushy partner in the least. I would be more than happy to wait a month for a reply. But I need communication. I need feedback if something doesn't sit right for you. I need reciprocated enthusiasm. You don't have to show It the same way I do but I need some show of enthusiasm otherwise it just feels uncomfortable and I feel annoying and restrained. That's not what I'm here for. I've honestly made the decision to start unfollowing people based on a three strikes basis. No hard feelings. I just don't want to follow anyone who doesn't bring the same energy I do. 

fluff, angst, or smut :ALL OF IT! While I'm becoming more and more selective about who I write smut with I LOVE writing smut ESPECIALLY if its born of post Angst fluff. Actually almost exclusively. There is nothing that gets my muses motor going like post Angst Fluff! 

plots or memes : Augh! Don't make me pick. I love Plotting but sometimes nothing really gets the juices flowing like memes do. I cant tell you how many times a simple meme interaction help set a pivotal point in a plot. ALSO- Memes are usually what help me forego my shy nature. While my muse outwardly gives NONE of the Ducks. . .I do . I give all of the Ducks so memes help  me loosen up. I'm not responsible for the haphazard neuroSpicy creature you meet once the shyness has fallen away. You've been warned.

long or short replies : It depends on my mood and attention span. There is a Adderall shortage right now so I have only been taking my Adderall on work days so Ive had a VERY hard time focusing o replies as of late. When Im on top of my Game I am LONGWINDED AF .Please don't ever feel like you have to match me because there are times where I will write you a novel and we were only supposed to be writing a sentence or two. It just happens and Im sorry.  time to write : Ha! um . . . Well I work Graveyard  Thursday- Saturday from 8PM-9:30ish AM (PST)  On slow nights I do write here and there but for the most part I can be found here pretty sporadically. If I have something going on during my weekend that I have to be a daytime person for then ill be up during the day time. OTHERWISE- Mostly evening and spooky hours .

HOLY GOD! Ok, this project launched back in... October of 2020 and it’s here. Huge and never ending thanks go out to everyone involved in this project, I’ll credit all those I can. "I missed you... a lot"

It'd taken a good deal of time for Mariza and Delta's... relationship to even out after Mariza's ascension.

It'd taken the half desperate pleadings of someone far too exhausted to keep up a one sided fight for it to stop, a fire no longer fueled by oxygen left to smolder. Then they were left with what remained, a goddess who didn't know who she was, and a pirate who remembered everything but didn't know where to start.

So they started anyway, because when had they ever planned for anything?

The bottom of the ocean, contrary to the superstitions of sailors who'd never so much as swam a reef, was far more lively than an eternal quiet. Just because the cool depths only contained the echoes of humans didn't mean they were devoid of life, only human life. Though for some that didn't make a difference. It made the perfect spot for a mer and the embodiment of the ocean to sit and watch the world go by, the occasional curious fish swimming around Mariza's torso and extra limbs, weaving in and out as though the goddess were nothing but coral.

"Guess they like 'ya huh?"

Delta laughed as the guppy darted away from Mariza's claws, the goddess unable to contain a small chuckle of her own.

"Well, they know better than to be near a shark. I think they want me to protect them from you."

"Right, because I'm the more deadly of the two of us, you're ridiculous."

"I dunno," Mariza smiled impishly, "Those teeth of yours are pretty sharp."

"Mari. I've seen you bite boats in half. Come on."

Delta whacked Mariza with her fin, enough to push her forward, but no further than that. Of course, retaliation was swift, and those same tendrils that were a fish's playground wrapped around Delta's tail and hoisted her vertical, then in a loop. The cycle continued until both were cackling messes, throwing small handfuls of sand in each others' direction as they wheezed.

"Ha- haha- Can't believe you're this easily winded. Aren't you supposed to be a god?"

"Yeah well- I'm still- still getting used to it. It's not like I'm laughing all that much around Samira."

Ah, that pleasant company. Surely a more jovial presence you couldn't find.

"No kidding. I can't say that I've laughed this hard in a while either. I missed this."

Cold regret seeped into the waters around them. For what it was worth, Mariza tried to give a sarcastic half smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Did you now?"

Too late to pretend she didn't mean it now.

"I did. I missed you... a lot. When you slipped under the water... Thought I'd never see you again. But hey, lucky me, right?"

"Lucky that I didn't end up sinking you when you came up and hugged me out of the blue."

"Hey! How was I supposed to know you had all the memory of a brain-dead sunfish left?"

"Brain dead- HEY!"

The bickering continued, but Delta couldn't help the smile that clung to her face each time Mariza let out that laugh of hers, or looked away for a brief moment.

She really was lucky, huh?

It stung she still missed her, sometimes.

You asked me about Patches recently, but how do YOU feel about him? I've noticed that his Bloodborne portrayal stands out not just because he becomes a monster, but it is the uhhh... idk, delivery? I did not even realize it was him until much later when I could recognize the voice actor ;-; Which version of Patches is your fav? (I personally don't think DS3 version could be bested, but ALL Patches are good)

Sorry it took so long, Kat! I had 1 hour of free time a day for a few days in a row :'^)

Patches caused me and my spouse a lot of conflicting emotions, because we started with DS3, and there he was, well… Not the best character xD I was genuinely amazed at how game developers could make THAT kind of asshole. My spouse killed him right away on the first playthrough xdd It was a shame not for the player character, but rather for Siegward of Catarina - a real sunshine! And then we found out that Patches really cares about Greirat, even though he hides it, and we started changing our opinion. As it turns out, they're friends, and Patches might even save him during the questline! Also, in the DLC, he shows up quite suddenly with memory loss, and gradually comes back to himself. It's so cute that by losing himself he becomes something of a knight, but the mean version of him is cuter still!

Then in Elden Ring we realized he's a king! xd No really, his character there is something awesome, he has his own, full questline and the way you get the "Extreme Repentance" gesture from him is divine! He gives hints, is simping for Tanith, and is overall a very cozy character that is something very nice to meet! And his gesture "Patches' Crouch" - oh my!!! xdd That's adorable!

In ds1 he shoves us off a cliff, but that was even cute! I accidentally killed him then because in my favorite location, I had giant skeletons running after me and I lost all bearings and got lost. He's very charismatic, actually, and his voice actor does double duty in making you love the character.

Well in BB his line "Oh Amygdalaaaaaaaa, have mercy on a poor bastard" is so SO HOT. So well said. I fell in love with it then. xd And the spider with the bald man's head is just a sample of what I want to see every day lol It's very interesting to imagine his place in BB's lore, but I can't do that. Not enough mana for that

And he's also Miyazaki's avatar in the game (I don't know where this info comes from, but it says so in the wiki and some articles! xd It must be just a theory, but it is sooo funny) So we have developed a local meme with my husband, like "everything is clear, the author is Patches" (все ясно, автор - Лоскутик. Так звучит лучше! хд) when any publication seems like a hoax, stupidity or something to us xdd

I haven't played DS2, but so many people are shipping him with Creighton? It looks hot and cool but I don't understand the background but shipping them sounds good xdd

He has something so cool in his character. Like he is completely fictional, but he is so "human-like"! Not because he is mean and lying, but because he has a balance of good and bad! He is easy to befriend actually, soft and nice, but also soooooo bitchy I can't xD He is that charismatic ass of a character, that is pathetic, but does nothing bad actually (almost???), but actually has a strong humanity... I can't describe! ;_; love him

experience / how many years:    oh god... I think it's been like 10 or 11 years now!

platforms you use:  for years i've sort of bounced around searching for the right fits, and as of now, I write on tumblr, twitter, and discord.

best experience:     that's a toughie... i've had a lot of negative experiences which is what ultimately made me leave that first time around, but i'm finding lately that more people are talking to me! i'm making new friends, and that makes me really happy.

rp pet peeves:   the biggest one is when people tell me what they headcanon for my chrissy, and if i tell them it's not accurate to my portrayal, they freak out or get upset with me. i've had this happen numerous times, and it feels like a form of godmodding, and it bugs me big time. i know my carrd isn't up yet, but i do wish people asked me about chrissy rather than projecting their ideas onto her. that might be how their chrissy acts, but not mine.

fluff,   angst,   or smut:  this is a tough one because i like everything for different reasons. i'd say i'm an expert at angst... for those of you who knew me with my oc alice or on my multi-- you know that's what i know best. but i never get to write fluff, so fluff is always a nice little treat! and smut is a lot of fun to discover for chrissy, and tapping into why she is the way she is sexually.

plots or memes:   i am an extremely plot heavy person, i am very into world-building, and plotting is my favorite thing to do in the world! but that being said, it makes my day when people take the time to send me memes! most people kinda ignore my memes, but when people do send them it's exciting!

long or short replies:  it depends on the plot! i get a kick out of long replies, but my brain is so out of it half the time that medium length/shorter replies are easiest to pump out.

best time to write:  later in the day usually! i've been experiencing really bad brain fog lately, so my writing doesn't seem the best... but i'm finding i'm more awake at night.

are you like your muses:  unfortunately. i tend to write women who i see myself in, one way or another. (buffy, leia, padme, jennifer, kat, etc...) i have a similar upbringing to chrissy, i was a cheerleader growing up, and i think our personalities are quite similar. i'm starting to realize it more and more with how i write her. women with baggage but strong personalities are what i tend to know the most... and now this is making me realize i need to go write alice again on twitter.

helloo! wow it’s been a little while ngl! but when when chap10 was posted i was like “do i read it now or wait till the epilogue is posted? 🤔” and i ended up waiting for the epilogue, idk in my head it’s as logic sjsbdb. meanwhile i decided to rewatch stranger things + skamfr kinda at the same time bc it’s been way too long (for the latter). then the epilogue was posted and haven’t found the time or energy to settle and read the last two chapters (we love uni for that). till tonight!! so here’s my not so little review of the chap10 + the epilogue 😅

woaaah im at loss for words for how cute and beautiful that chapter was omg! the vulnerable moment right after the intensity of their love scene hit me right in the feels, lucas’ “please don’t hurt me (again)” and then eliott hugging him tight saying “i promise” 🥺MY HEART🥺

also these little acts had me giggling and kicking my feet

gosh i’m just so giddy when it comes to them like- THEY. ARE. IN. LOVE. 🥹

OH YEAH the moment when idriss came back home and said “I swear, if you fucked in the kitchen, Eliott -" made me think of that one scene in tempo (i think) when he discovers they did it on the counter and there was like evidences or sth and i just burst out laughing 😭 like i imagined him being so done already with them (/affectionate of course)

i really loved how eliott reassured lucas during the moving, how they once more opened a little to one another. then lucas asking him to say something true abt himself, eliott’s little story was very cute despite starting kinda sad :(( but that little parallel to the minute par minute scene but this time it’s eliott calming lucas down ☹️

but goosh i’m in love with their love, in every universe istg 🥰 like i smiled SO BIG here!

Ok, so I very much got minute-by-minute vibes in that moment of the epilogue too, but it wasn't pre-planned that way. I kinda love that you had the same reaction. It just sort of happened and as I was writing it occurred to me that it very subtly nodded to that classic Skam moment. It seems they're determined to be that way in every universe.

Ahhhh the shadow pic! It's one of my faves! I get obsessive about most things (this is not news lmao) so it wasn't surprising that I obsessed over getting those shadows right, but in the end when it did look like them I was sooooo satisfied. And yes, satisfied with the very lovely booty on Lucas too 😌. It makes me so happy you liked it too!

Really it was my absolute pleasure to share this fic, most especially because I seriously do have the best readers in the world, and you all are so generous in leaving me your thoughts and feelings about the story (there is really nothing better than that as a writer). thoughts on euphoria season 2 because i’m a month behind and have no life (inspired by @lilisouless and encouraged by @jadentheflowerboy)

EUPHORIA SPOILERS BTW

Episode one was actually like. quite good. i enjoyed it a lot, the vibes were on point, Maddy SLAYED, McKay still existed. It jumped right into the new plot line for the season. and “it’s a new year, playboy” is still to this day extremely iconic. If i'm being honest I didn't pay attention much to episode two and three so I'm not gonna pretend I have a valid opinion on them.

Maddy this season absolutely ate I will not be taking criticism. The writers this season had three collective brain cells, and one of them was on Maddy Perez. Not much to say here, just keep ur head up queen.

I do have complaints on Kat (big surprise). I just thought her s1 story line was actually really fucking good, and I didn't like that they completely abandoned that. And she and Maddy are best friends again-- I was surprised there was no follow-up on the "I miss the old Kat, the one who had a sense of humor and wasn't a fucking cunt" conversation. They were just suddenly besties again, and Kat had zero background of the past few months. Also having her gaslight Ethan after ignoring them both completely was just... not great.

(side note-- mad props to Ethan for being the one to absolutely destroy Nate Jacobs)

This being said I do get that they didn't want the show to be doing too much at once. But we could have kept the format from season 1 where each episode sort of focuses on one person--we had that in the first episode with Fez, and a bit in the second with Nate but idk what happened after that.

And as for Cassie- wow. There's a lot. I didn't watch the episodes immediately when they came out (mostly, it's complicated) I just caught up through Instagram edits, which is probably the clearest way to get the Euphoria plot if i'm being honest. I just watched her hit a new rock bottom each Sunday, and it was no different when I actually watched the episodes. Stealing this take from Lili, but it was like giving the audience someone to root against. I hope she get's a redemption arc in the next season, because among the three antagonists of this season, she is the ONLY character who deserves one.

I'm just gonna say that the Rue storyline had brain cell #2 this season. It was in character, it fit with the story, and it gave my best girl a happy ending with an overlooming cliffhanger, which is the best way to end a continuing series season. For a lot of the characters, there's not much left for them to rly do next season (cough cough Jules and Kat) but it left room open for Rue's story to continue. obviously its gonna be a painful ride, but thats part of the deal.

I don't have much to say on Jules and Elliott because if i'm being honest i didn't pay much attention to them lmao, but lemme just say: I can't lie, Elliot's song was a vibe. But it was too long I'M SORRY IT JUST HAD SO MANY PLACES WHERE IT COULD HAVE ENDED AND IT JUST KEPT GOING I-

and ofc Lexi, the queen herself. Absolutely owned the season with her play, and with her relationships with Fez and Rue. she's not perfect--but she's incredible. no complaints here. she's my pfp.

And the finale-- Okay I watched the finale several weeks after it came out, and I thought I knew everything that was going to happen. but it still had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, so great job. I said there were three collective brain cells, and one of them was with Rue and one was with Maddy? The last one was on this episode.

I wish I had ysayle’s drive to fight for her beliefs, or tyrande’s fierceness, or aymeric’s will, or minfilia’s heart. alas, I don’t think I quite live up to them. quiet, distant fran, willing to push away people because she believes it’ll be best for them, loyal to the few who got close to her is the one more similar to me I think, and still I think it’s more I wish I was like her than that we really are alike.

Writing Ask Meme : are your projects driven more by character or plot?

Always character driven and then followed by the plot. If I have a plot idea it usually gets altered by the way the chars choose to react to it. I am constantly surprised by them which I think is fab as a writer.

Examples of this:

Million Reasons - Antonio breaking up with Maggie after what Cooper did to them both. - I had this plan he would be like he didnt break us but then Antonio took over and was like I can't handle it.

Chasing Fires - Brian telling Kat how he feels and then saying he cant be with her right now. Also in Antonio/Kat getting into an argument about how her mental state is affecting her job.

No More, No Less - Ethan getting shot in the chest because he refused to leave Sarah alone with the convict with a gun and Connor willing to let Ethan leave him and be happy with Kris if he wanted.
