anyone got any good horror (ish, esque, or like) podcasts? like i love looveeee some good horror stories, not picky on topics- except for needles or too in-depth medical sickness or hunger/starving

i just cant do sudden yelling (or much yelling at all) nor can i do more than tops three characters talking at a time, really prefer it to just be one character mainly or two (which is why tma was great! until the first season end where Jon yelled and i couldn't listen to it again)

To make it easier hopefully- triggers I can't take:

Needles, medical trauma or in-depth medical anything, hunger/ starvation or humours around it, eye trauma (quick mention is okay), yelling/screaming (very faint and far away is fine), zombies, sound effects like eating, drinking or anything gooey

Fanart for @kellen-kat's PHENOMENAL, OUTSTANDING case fic Sweet Little Lies. 

This fic is so So SO good. It keeps me up at night thinking and I mean that in the best way. Also makes me want to eat my own pillow. Trying to find all the clues and figure out the mystery is an absolute DELIGHT. At the end of every chapter I feel like that one Charlie Day image with the pin board and cigarette, you know the one lol Imagine a fic with all the delicious vibes of a The Magnus Archives episode, and thats Sweet Little Lies.

In fact I was listening to DaughterofProspero’s Music of the Fears (based off of, well TMA) while doodling this. 

I’m ashamed to admit that of this moment I am not entirely caught up. I had to pause for a while, a part for life reasons (which I’m not ashamed for, it happens, no worries), another because I’m an absolute Weenie™ and want to wait until all the chapters are out so I can binge the rest in one go, the suspense is OUGH so good, just thinking about it makes my hands clammy(positive).

Sam, I ask this with no judgement at all, but how do you fuck up a signature that iirc consists of scribbling while muttering "sam starbuck" under your breath?

Sometimes I swoop in the wrong place! Sometimes the M turns into a real weird sigil of some kind. Mostly, either the pen skips in a bad place or the star -- for those unaware, I sign Starbuck literally as “S*buck” with a five pointed star where the asterisk is -- the star doesn’t quite come out right.

I received my bookplate yesterday! I enjoy how your signature is about as legible as mine, which is to say not very. I was holding off on reading Three Harvests until I got it, so I'm excited to begin soon.

I hope you enjoy it! As mentioned above, the signature is literally scribbles while I say my name under my breath a lot of the time. :D Starbuck isn’t my last name, so I had to “learn” to sign my author name -- though my real signature looks essentially the same, and I do that with my real signature too because I don’t write in cursive but most authority figures REALLY don’t like it when you use draftsman’s script to print your name on an official document.

TMA?

I had to really stop and consider this because I’ve been in The Magnus Archives fandom for quite a while -- before it really blew up around S4, though I’ve stopped listening and am waiting to see how it ends before listening to S5. Honestly it hadn’t even occurred to me that “what I would consider body horror but what the fandom clearly considers a mild kink” is ABSOLUTELY a feature of TMA fanfic. The canon is so far-out to begin with that most of the fanfic seems mild in comparison.

how rare are ice storms in texas really? 'cause I've only been to Dallas a few times in winter, but one of those times it was 20 degrees and the locals seemed to think that was unusual, not apocalyptic. But the way everyone is carrying on now you'd think the Rapture was upon us.

As someone else said, part of the difference is scale, but a huge part of it is also that while northern Texas is used to this kind of weather, the southern half of the state is distinctly not. Texas is so big that it encompasses multiple climate regions, and only the northern one normally deals with cold at this intensity and duration. Because of that, the cheap-ass owners of the privatized southern power plants didn’t winterize, since when is it ever gonna snow in Houston hahahahahaha OH SHI -- 

So, yeah. You’re not wrong in that parts of Texas do deal with extreme cold at times, and Dallas is kind of a southern border for that in some ways. It’s just this time it hit the whole state, and the power plants weren’t ready, and nobody’s house is designed to hold heat in.

i like birds a lot :) took the picture at a wildlife sanctuary in FL, they had so many vultures just hanging out and i thought that was cool. also it's a pretty striking image imo lots of contrast

ocs as tma entities.

these past few months I’ve been in love with the magnus archives and the new season has come out today !! whoop whoop ! in honor of that I finally decided to look into a thought I had before, what entities my ocs would possess in that universe. Some of it is based on their characteristics, some of it based off their own fears.

if u don’t listen to the magnus archives or are unfamiliar, u can look at the entities here on the wiki page !

Katsumi - The Web. Before her current character arc, Kat was a puppet for Aurora and whoever Aurora wanted Kat to served. Knowing she was being manipulated, Kat embraced it until she was thrown under the bus and took all the blame for the crimes she helped commit. She’s a better person now, but she may be willing to jump into future traps.

Morgan - The Desolation. Pertaining to backstory as well, Morgan had hurt and destroyed a lot of people, both strangers and people close to her. She didn’t mind doing it, sometimes even enjoyed it. It reminded them not to mess with her. She more so targeted people who had something to live for, rather pitying the lowest of the low.

Avery - The Spiral. Throughout RESETTING, Avery comes to doubt her surroundings. When she’s being followed, no one believes her which paints her as crazy. She goes mad when being held in Recom, is unaware who to trust when she returns to Evelow, and in arc six she gets her memory taken away from her, which surely doesn’t help her ability to rely on instincts.

Zack - The Vast. Since the longest time I knew Zack was afraid of large spaces and open water, so it was only right for him to be associated with the vast. I’ve always loved the irony of having a tall person like him to having vertigo. Nothing in canon has him truly facing his fear, but perhaps I should change that.

Lilith - The Slaughter. I almost wanted to give her the lonely due to her time isolating herself, but she canonically tries to kill two of my characters (maybe more if I wanna play my cards right.) And in an impulsive fashion too, knife and pipe being the weapons of choice.

Advik - The Corruption. Advik is afraid of everything, so many of these entities would have been fair game, but I wanna use corruption because he’s very squeamish, touch starved (there’s a high level of feeling touched in this entity imo) and gets an infected arm in arc six of my story.

Sean - The Stranger. king of the uncanny ! Sean was created in a lab, starting off as an artificial embryo that was manipulated to grow organically. so naturally, Sean’s a human but something’s a little off with him. He can also regenerate his organs and adapt in whatever environment he’s in.

Audrey - The Eye. This is very much destined for her, both aesthetically and lore - wise. SOUL’s eyes grow all over Audrey since her consumption of it (I am just spilling arc six spoilers all over the place aren’t I ??) But beyond this, she starts RESETTING by arriving to Evelow to learn about the magic behind becoming a host and manifesting organic matter. All the while she’s seeking knowledge, she refuses to let people inside her personal life and to know her intentions.
