Petal by Precious Petal (Jason Todd x Reader)
Okay here’s the deal: I have a lot of requests from like about two months ago. And they’re all half finished and I’ve lost inspiration. But I do have inspiration for this and a love for Jason “I died once lol” Todd. Why am I writing after midnight? That’s a good question.
I first discovered the hanahaki disease AU from a piece by @loudmouthwally made me bawl so I highly suggest checking that out, and also @writing-yj has done two that never cease to make me cry, so yeah, their writing is beautiful and they have no idea who I am so y'all better go and read their stuff so this isn’t creepy but instead benefits them too and I’m rambling okay! Let’s do this!
There are flowers in your lungs and you aren’t quite sure how to feel.
Every breath is painfilled as you feel the petals desperate to break free. It hurts so much, god it hurts so fucking much, roots taking place, trying valiantly to rip apart the soft tissue.
And yet, you’re used to it.
You’re used to the pain because you’ve been in love for what seems to have been forever, and it has never not been unrequited. [three years you went without incident and then you had to fall in love again, and shatter a well sculpted illusion]
You weren’t supposed to be able to love, years ago, the last time you had this disease, you hadn’t even hesitated on getting the surgery. You’d rather live life without some neurotic emotion than not at all.
But now?
Now it was back, and you were finding it increasingly harder to hate the man who did this to you. You know, seeing as you were in love with Jason Peter Todd.
This shouldn’t even be possible; you had lost your ability to love, had been condemned to a world of mediocre contentment. You shouldn’t be able to love this man, but you did.
It was infuriating to say the least.
But, you think as you cough up another basket of petals, he’d done the extraordinary and somehow tricked you into love.
It’s just too bad he didn’t love you back.
It’s too bad because, well, you’re dying. You waited just slightly too long to get the surgery yet again and now you think you might have a month.
If you’re lucky.
Seventeen days pass and no one’s found out. Well actually, maybe Bruce knows, but he’s the goddamn Batman so you reckon you didn’t stand a chance at deceiving him. And you’re not sure you’d want to.
But Bruce allows you to continue helping Barbara with her Oracle duties and doesn’t tell her so it’s not that bad.
And you think he probably knows who’s responsible for your disease, but he never says anything.
It’s been seventeen days and your times cut short.
Surrounded by friends and family, mere feet away from Jason, you fall to the ground hacking up blood and flowers.
And for a moment everyone freezes- then suddenly your overwhelmed with stimulation.
There’s screaming and crying and you know this is the end because you can feel the tingling on your wrist as a name starts to form, and there’s a hand on your back and it’s big and warm, and someone’s stroking your hair, and another’s searching desperately for a name.
Bruce, Stephanie, Barbara. That order.
You can vaguely hear someone calling out, asking who did this to you, and suddenly the coughing stops and your lungs are no longer working and you are dying of asphyxiation.
“Jason.”
It’s the last thing you hear accompanied by anguished screams, some more angry than others, and his utterly remorseful face is the last thing you see.
And loving someone unrequitedly stops hurting.
And then your heart stops beating and the branches of a cherry blossom tree crawls up and out of your throat.
[they bury you in the family cemetery, and in a year's time your tree is fully grown]
[and everyday, jason lies under it basking in your presence and rambling about his day]
[and how he wishes he had known, because now he's destined to your fate, coughing up petals for the dead]
TAGGING: @hyp-oh-critical, @nightwingasm
Want to be tagged? Let me know!
I hope this is enough to tie y'all over, I am sorry it’s kind of sad and not so much about interactions but moreso a stream of consciousness. I do hope y'all like it, loves. And hope y'all have a fantastic evening as per usual!
Remember! You are loved!

Lola Bunny Tier List
Tumblr media
This is my rankings of the different versions of Lola Bunny. The versions I chose to rank are Space Jam, the DC comics, Tweety's Highflying Adventure, Baby Looney Tunes, Dating Do's and Don'ts, Loonatics Unleashed (Yes, I am aware it's not actually Lola but it's still a variation of her), The Looney Tunes Show, Rabbits Run, New Looney Tunes (Formally known as Wabbit), and Space Jam: A New Legacy.
1.DC Comics- This version of Lola is absolutely the most PERFECT version of Lola that there is. She's smart, strong, competent, independent, and feisty but is able to get into wacky situations like a traditional Looney Tune. She's a pizza delivery girl for mythical creatures, ancient spirits, and deities, which is awesome and has a lot of comedic potential that they take full advantage of. She shows that she can hold her own as a Looney Tune without having to rely on the other Looney Tunes to make her story work. She's sassy, witty, hot-headed, vindictive, resourceful, clever, can take a beating, and is just everything you want in a great female Looney Tune and a great Looney Tune in general. I'd love to see animated shorts based on the comics.
2.Space Jam: A New Legacy- I was very skeptical about this when I learned that out of nowhere at the last minute they replaced Kath Soucie with Zendaya, who is a TERRIBLE actress in my opinion. However, Zendaya did surprise me by actually giving a good performance, for once. She wasn't monotoned, wooden, or stale but full of energy, genuine emotion, and showing personality. This version of Lola takes full advantage of Lola by fleshing her out more and making her more important to the plot than she was in the original Space Jam. She's really awesome and a lot like her DC comic book version. The only thing holding her back is that Zendaya voices her. I'm sorry but the fact that Kath Soucie was going to voice her but they just out of nowhere screwed her over in favor of a big named (And OVERRATED) celebrity really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
3.New Looney Tune- This is pretty much just like her DC comic book version where she is smart, competent, strong, and independent but is able to be in wacky situations. The episode Lola Rider is amazing and shows her full potential being shown. Kath Soucie even returned to voice her, showing off her versatility. The art style is terrible but this is a very faithful and well-done version of Lola. However, she's not higher because of two things. The first being she's only in three episodes, one of which is only for one minute. In her third and final appearance, she acts like a major fangirl that is kind of clueless, which seems out of character. However, I chalk that up to Lola just being such a big sports fan that when she's near someone she's a big fan of, she loses her senses in excitement.
4.Loonatics Unleashed- An underrated and overly hated show that is a lot of fun. Lola's descendant, Lexi Bunny, is the best part of the show because of her strong, smart, fun, sassy, and badass personality. Her personality is fleshed out and despite being the only girl never feels like she's just there to be the token chick but rather an essential member of the team. She's even second in command to Ace, Bugs Bunny's descendant. I really love her sass and how she carries herself in all situations whether mellow or dangerous. I find her interactions with Daffy Duck's descendant, Danger Duck. They have very much a sibling relationship where she never misses an opportunity to call him out on his crap, not to mention put him in his place when he does something to make her upset. I feel like this is what Lola and Daffy's interactions would be like, which I wish we would see more of with the actual Lola and Daffy.
5.Space Jam- The original Lola Bunny, who is awesome. I love her catchphrase, "Don't ever call me doll" and I wish that it would've stayed her catchphrase in later versions of Lola. She's smart, strong, feisty, has great expressions, is self-reliant, and never lets people underestimate her simply for being an attractive female. She's a wonderful character but she isn't very well written. She has less than 4 minutes of screen time in the whole movie, speaking and non-speaking. That makes her not as fleshed out as she could've been. They should've given her more to do and more of a role in the film. Not to mention make her a bit more looney like she would be in the comics. I feel like they should've modeled her personality a little bit more like Babs Bunny from Tiny Toon Adventures (Yes, Babs Bunny actually came before Lola).
6.Baby Looney Tunes- The same Lola we know and love but as a baby. She's still smart, strong, stands up for herself, is creative, feisty, caring, and maintains her amazing athletic skills. She's great but her being a baby does limit her.
7.Tweety's Highflying Adventure- This is just a cameo with her as a weather girl. She's cool and all but there's not much to judge because of how it's less than a minute.
8.Rabbits Run- This version of Lola is VERY different from the Lola that is normally shown in media. She's more of an airhead because of how she's based on The Looney Tunes Show version of Lola. So I should really hate this version but she was actually okay. She wasn't a brainless, man-obsessed, dumb blonde stereotype and actually had some independence and goals that didn't revolve around a man or just change out of nowhere. On her own, she's an entertaining character but she's still just NOT Lola.
9.Dating Do's and Don'ts- This version has no lines other than giggling like a dumb teenage valley girl stereotype. This really isn't anything like Lola and is just so out of character.
10.The Looney Tunes Show- I absolutely DESPISE this version of Lola. They took an already established character that was smart, competent, independent, self-reliant, and strong and turned her into the polar opposite of who she was. They made her a scatterbrained, man-obsessed, dumb blonde stereotype that never shuts up. This is bad fanfic levels of terrible character writing. The creators of the show actually said they never saw Space Jam or anything else Lola appeared in, which just shows how terribly written this character is. I respect people's opinions but saying this version of Lola is the best is just really insulting to the character, to women, and to quality writing. Just let this version DIE and never be allowed to see the light of day EVER again.

Hey, Kath! Firstly, I just want to say congrats again on your milestone! I hope it leads to many more followers, because your writing is amazing, to be quite honest.
Anyway, I figured I’d pop in your ask box again and ask for a 💜 ship. May I get a ship for Titans with a guy? (DC has me in a chokehold, and the only way to cope is to think about alternate universe me.)
If it helps, I’m a Slytherin. I love to read, write, play solitaire, analyze/dissect media and cry over the implications of it, and listen to musicals. I’m quite introverted and not at all trusting, so it can be hard to get to know me at first, but when I warm up to you, I am very loyal and would kill for you. I’m really competitive, and while I don’t make a big deal about it, I will quietly destroy you by any means necessary (play poker with me at your own risk). I have the ability to be cold when I want to be (I hear it’s bad™ when I ice someone out or ghost them) but I also easily adopt a caretaker role in my group of friends. I will 100% let you vent your struggles and give you good, solicited advice. My love language is most definitely quality time, so come sit next to me on the couch and just vibe! We can talk about your day, read books in silence, or ramble about Game of Thrones for 3+ hours. I do all of those religiously.
Congrats on your milestone, again! It's what you deserve.
Aw, thank you Olive!
I ship you with Jason Todd! Rachel would be your best friend.
Tumblr media
How you met:
You met Jason through Rachel. You and Rachel grew up in the same city, and when she left you decided to follow her. She called you one day and told you she was in San Francisco, so you met her there.
She let you up into the tower, with Dick's permission of course, and as she was giving you a tour Gar and Jason showed up. Gar was very excited to meet you because of how close he was to Rachel, and made it his mission to become friends with you as well. Jason, on the other hand, just wanted to know why Dick had cancelled their training for the day.
When he saw you walking around with Rachel, his first thought was ‘why is there a civilian in the tower and why are they disrupting our training schedule?’ Needless to say, Jason did not keep these thoughts to himself. Rachel quickly got mad at him, and as she and Gar scolded him you heard his name for the first time.
How you fell in love:
So, obviously you and Jason didn’t start out on the right foot. After your disastrous first meeting with him, Rachel and Gar took precautions to keep the two of you as far away from one another as possible. Though Rachel was tempted to let you mess with his food and drinks, she knew Dick would get mad at her if anything too bad happened to Jason, so the most she let you do the mess with him was setting up hidden alarm clocks around his room that would go off at different times throughout the night. When Jason entered the kitchen the next morning, exhausted and fuming, you only laughed.
In the early afternoon, Dick took Rachel and Gar out into the city. Rachel wanted you to go with, but you declined so you could watch a few episodes of Game of Thrones uninterrupted. You were halfway through your first episode when Jason knocked on your door. He asked if you were the one who’d hidden all those alarm clocks, and when you said yes he invited himself into your room and started talking about how that was the exact kind of prank he’d been wanting to pull on the rest of the Titans but hadn’t figured out how to do it without making it obvious he was the one pranking them. You started giving him a couple of tips, and eventually the two of you found yourselves talking about more than that.
The love between you and Jason grew for a long time after that; first, the two of you grew closer as friends. When the rest of the Titans ignored Jason’s problems, you let him rant and gave him advice. When Rachel began to avoid you so she could protect you from her powers, Jason helped you deal with the hole your best friend had left behind. Eventually, the two of you simply became so close that there was never a doubt that you loved each other; Jason taught you to fight, and you helped Jason find peace.

1, 17, 19?
1. What was the first fandom and/or pairing that you wrote fic for? The first fandom I wrote fic for was DC Comics and specifically the batfam. I wrote a “patrol report” as Batgirl for a friend as a part of her Christmas present in middle school.
I mostly write gen stuff and even the early fics with relationships they were definite background or could very easily be viewed as gen. The first fic I wrote where I actually intentionally developed the pairing is Paper Petals and the pairing is newsbians. And the only reason I even wrote it was because I was sick of reading Flower Shop AUs that just made no sense as someone who grew up in a flower shop.
17. What fic are you most proud of? I’m going to go with Three Card Draw because I put a lot into it and really had fun with using myths and kinda pulling from other modern mythology stories to make my own which I think turned out really cool. Beyond that I’m really proud of the way I developed Enj and R and how they interact from beginning to end. And my nuggets of foreshadowing. I tried so hard on those.
19.  Who is the easiest/hardest character for you to write about? Why? Easiest are def Katherine Plumber, Enjolras, and Stephanie Brown because I really vibe with them. Like there’s large chunks of their characters I identify with so it’s easy for me to pull some of my own traits and language. For Enj and Steph I definitely exaggerate the traits I identify with because they’re both people whose resting level is a 9 and I’m with Kath at a solid 6. But yeah, it’s def a write what you know when I dig into the them. And Mia Dearden recently? But that’s just because she’s a sassmaster and I haven’t interacted with real people so there’s a lot of sarcasm that needs an outlet.
Hardest? Bruce Wayne. I don’t really have a clear voice for him and like I can handle people interacting with him but I just know I couldn’t handle him interacting with other people because he’s just the worst combination of a dramatic ass, petty, introvert and I just can’t get the balance right.
Thank you so much for the ask Claire!!! <3 Questions can be found here.

So, I’m older. I’ve got about 1130 followers. Gonna give a shout out to my homies, with a follow forever/bias list thing where I also compliment y’all bc you deserve it.
@prof-anity Davis is my best friend in the world. Davis is my best friend in the sea.
@thelordvader Bethany is the coolest nerd I know. She’s smart, witty, pretty (selfie game unparalleled), and pretty… much always right. We had been mutuals for years but somehow over the past two years or so became friends and it is still an honor.
@viktorfrankensteins Listen I’ve followed Royan for a while bc Bethany did and I trust Bethany’s judgement, but in just a matter of a few months Royan somehow managed to become one of my most beloved and valued friends. I’ve only known her for a short while but if anything happened to her I would kill everyone on this hell site and then myself.
@jjoelswatch Sarah is honestly one of the first people I remember following on tumblr, like back around 2012, and it’s bc of her I became exposed to Bethany and like… I don’t even know when we really became friends? After being mutuals for so long, it just sort of happened and she’s been a constant and comforting presence ever since. Except when she sends me sad Star Wars videos. That’s not comforting. She’s one good natured people I’ve encountered on the internet tho.
@thealbooty  Alberto is someone I met through Davis years ago, and again, I don’t even know how it happened. One day they were just there, and tho I don’t talk to them nearly enough they are just one of the nicest and raddest people you could meet. I’ve seen them grow from a youngling into an Adult, and gosh, the word could use more people like them. Kind, pure, smart, amazing, spectacular. Killer eyebrows, tbh.
@frostborn is someone who I believe I first encountered through the wonderful ladies listen above, and she herself is just really nice and awesome? She’s another person I don’t talk to nearly enough, but she’s just a lovely presence on my dash. Always liking and reblogging things, making me feel valid.
@rocktheholygrail Dana makes gifs and things, and is always willing to let me exploit her skill by taking requests. She’s also just super chill and friendly, and likes my selfies when I post them, ergo she also makes me feel valid. We also enjoy the same terrible bleached asshole, which I’m not gonna give any context for whatsoever. That’s a bond that connects us tho~
@readytocomply IDEK how or when I started following Stef. She’s another person who is just super nice and chill. She’s talented when it comes to both edits and cosplay. She’s just a great person and I’m glad I know her.
@uncleclustersthirdbrain and @helenawayne, I hope you’re not offended by me lumping you together, but I mean… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Two people who I also first encountered around 2012ish, when I was an obnoxious outspoken teenager. We kind of drifted apart and fell out of touch for a while, but we reconnected actually around this time last year. Because Donnie’s fucking talented, and I wanted to reach out and tell him that I was happy for him/proud of him. Buy his comics here. Morgan ofc is also talented, and has a YouTube channel here. They’re just both good people, who care about people, and they have a cute dog.
@88ecto Derek is someone I’ve respected for going on a decade but somehow over the past year or so, we’ve become really good friends? I’m not even sure how that happened, it’s still surreal for me. He’s actually the one person on this list I’ve had the pleasure of actually meeting. Not to sound like a broken record, but he truly is just a good person. Also, plug.
@apol-lo Cristian. Again, someone who I don’t talk to nearly enough. He’s a good person. Another person who I’ve seen grow up, better himself. He should be proud, cause I’m proud of him. You’ve did alright for yourself, buddy.
@diaryofawriter Again, I don’t remember I met Jess tbh. She’s just been another presence. Whenever I need to rant or vent, she’s there to provide an ear or distraction. Good writer, good friend. She’s rad.
@fullonzombae Kim also likes the bleached asshole. No, I still won’t give you context. She’s got a kind heart, a sharp wit, and is a talented writer. She’s also British, so that automatically gives her some class.
@timelessmulder Emily-Alice and I aren’t even the same fandoms anymore but I wouldn’t recognize my dash without them. Again, they’ve followed me since my tumblr beginnings. She has seen things. The highs, and the lows. A rational and grounded person, who is lovely and deserves good things.
@kryptonians I think I encountered Gil through Davis? I’m not sure. He’s just a good dude. Decent. Rational, funny, and all around good people. He likes Superman. That makes him alright in my book. Pretty much all of my DC exposure comes from his blog these days.
@thejazzdalek Max is another awesome guy who has been a mutual for ages, and that I don’t talk to enough. There’s a pattern here. We have a lot of the same fandoms though, and he’s always been friendly towards me.
@cimikat It’s Katie’s fault I started watching critical role, tbh. Yet another person I’ve followed since the beginning of time. Or at least, 2012. She’s just really sweet and chill. Marvel, Star Wars, whatever content she puts on my dash is Good Content.
@chujo-hime Stacy was “tumblr famous” imo and I remember having a mini freakout when she first followed me. Again, just a constant and friendly presence. A voice of reason, and back during the fandom wankery and ship wars that were going around 2013 or so… that was hard to find. Nothing but respect for her.
@ilikethequiet Ally is the photoshop fairy, and another friend who lets me exploit her talents. She reminds me of Bubbles from Power Puff Girls tbh. Really endearing and happy and fun, tho she’s not afraid to call out bullshit when she needs to. We need to talk more/write together more, friend.
@dreamimpcssiblethings Kath, you honestly are the sweetest person I think I’ve ever met tbh. We don’t talk as much as we used to, and that’s on me. You’re smart, and I love listening to you ramble on about things you’re passionate about and I’m sorry I suck and usually only reply with emojis. You’re another person the world could do to have more people like, but you’re one of a kind my friend.
I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone, and if I have, I’m truly sorry. It’s not a slight. Ilu. I know there are some people I’ve left off bc they’re not really that active anymore on tumblr so.
Also. @mulaney. Notice me.

It seems like you have been so sad and terrified lately, what's the reason? everything's gonna be okay and it will all fall into places. I don't know what's making you feel so lonely when you've got people sorrounded you. What's making you empty dear?
-
Today I woke up at 6 am, told my self to have another 5 mins of sleep and then I woke up at 9 am again, that was a scam!! biggest scam. hahahahaha, anyways I took a bath, and then dad and mom dropped me sa tibanga highway, I went to mcdo, ordered an iced coffee and chiken burger. Jeff asked where I am, and told him I'm at McDonald's, I asked him again to stop already through chat and that made him decide go to mcdonalds, while he's still on the way ate Hillary and ate Andrea sat with me, and had a little chitchat about sir rodriguez, diagnostic exam, law prof (mrs. Dagondon), my ex, and other else. ff, jeff arrived and he told me na he only went there because it was brownout, I don't know if he was in denial or being serious, we had a little argument but Jeff being the funny guy I couldn't help but laugh on the whole duration of our conversation. Jai, Dan, Ken and others saw us and went to us. Jai and Dan kay nagpa ila2 kay Jeff and when they went off, we both laughed because "issue" nasad balag mana na hahaha. after that, I told Jeff to go na and he went back to syudad na, I went to Don carlos and tried to read some chapters, Jeff messaged me, he was pissed off and annoyed because nagpa init2 ra siya, sayang plete and effort pag adto mcdo, I told him na balik and adto sa DC pero he declined na and then I felt sleepy so I went home and slept, I woke up with a message from Jammy na she's going to cw to study, I told her na I will go and went back to sleep, when I woke up I went right away to coffee works. Naa didto si Thomas, jammy and ma'am kath. Nag answer rakog problems mga 4 chapters, I think. Had a little catch up with Ma'am Kath, Jammy and massen. and then we ate our dinner at Jollibee. Saw Bijuu outside jobee, then went to mcdo with bijuu and masen, they bought their own coffee, and then walked home. When I got homeeeee, got 2 messages from Jeff asking for my whereabouts, I asked Jeff again to stop already and then he asked for a match sa ML, If I win, he'll agree na stop na. And then I won, he accepted it na pero nag ask ug rematch, pero I think he fell asleep na dayon.
And here I am writing this. I miss writing, I miss tumblr, I miss being with myself, I miss being okay and being compassionate with bettering myself.

300 follower headcanons: batkid is not amused.
aka this pinecone actually does some of what they stated this blog doing
for all of my followers without siblings, (*me*) have some batkid adjusting to life with siblings
If anyone were to ask you what it was like being adopted by Bruce “Tots not Batman” Wayne you’d probably say one thing
Exhausting.
Do you know how difficult it is to deal with five brothers, one sister, a gay icon of an aunt, and like seventy million honorary family members?
Do you??
Of course you do because you’re in a house of idiots!
Idiots the whole lot of them!
Timothy fucking Drake-Wayne is always sleeping in the most inane of places, you thought you’d find some leftovers in the fridge? NOPE. JUST A SLEEP DEPRIVED BOY NOTHING TO SEE HERE.
Not to mention Cass, Steph and Damian are the biggest little shits ever and have developed a pact in the family prank war.
It’s terrifying.
And Dick encourages it!
That, that, that dick!
Duke and Babs are the only ones that you can put up with, you know when Duke isn’t looking like a giant, yellow highlighter!
You’d say Jason too but you’ve never met a more dramatic son of a bitch.
“yOu dIdN’t aVeNge mE sO nOw iMma bE a pOuTy sHiTheAd”
Honestly
At least Kate sneaks you alcohol at the fancy events. But oh boi watching her try and subtly flirt with all the pretty ladies is both painful and highly amusing
Scratch what you said before, Alfred is the only one you tolerate.
The ONLY ONE.

Internet Reacts to Batman Oral Sex Ban
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
If this post contains spoilers, I don’t know what they are.
In a surprising addition to the superhero discourse this week, fans have been taking to Twitter and other social media platforms in an effort to offer their two cents when it comes (or not) to whether Batman and other heroes perform cunnilingus.
How did this happen? Well, it all started with a fairly straightforward interview about how successful TV series like WandaVision, The Umbrella Academy, and Harley Quinn subvert the superhero genre – one that happened to produce an irresistible nugget of DC info that the internet is still very much feasting on at the time of writing.
Obviously it’s an interviewer’s dream when the person you’re quizzing dishes up some behind the scenes secrets about the making of their art, but Harley Quinn co-creator Justin Halpern probably wasn’t expecting the widespread social media reaction to this new interview, where he discussed the exact nature of DC’s limits during the shaping of their irreverent – and very adult – animated series.
“It’s incredibly gratifying and free to be using characters that are considered villains because you just have so much more leeway,” Halpern told Variety of making Harley Quinn. “A perfect example of that is in this third season of Harley [when] we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that.’ They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’”
Yes, despite the often violent nature of DC superhero media, going down on a woman is apparently over the line.
“In fairness to DC, both Halpern and [co-creator Patrick] Schumacker went on to say that the company has been remarkably supportive of their series and has allowed them to push the envelope numerous times,” added Variety. “Still, it remains to be seen if Batman and Catwoman will be shown engaging in some bedroom antics in Season 3 or if it will simply be implied via cunning linguistics.”
Though Variety was quick to add that DC had otherwise done right by the show and allowed its creators a lot of freedom in the writers’ room, Twitter was already in its element, and DC, Batman, Harley Quinn and Catwoman were all swiftly trending.

It is indeed a magnificent series. Please consider checking it out if you haven’t gotten around to it yet!
Harley Quinn features a terrific voice cast that includes Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Jason Alexander and J. B. Smoove. Season 3 will be heading to HBO Max soon.

9, 12, 13, 17?
9. Do you prefer to write AUs, canon divergence, or canon-compliant fic? Some of my DC fics could be considered canon compliant? If your canon is from like ten years ago? So yeah, really big on canon divergence and AUs. I pretty much exclusively write modern aus for newsies and les mis. I really like layering my aus too? Like modern AND flower shop. Modern AND roller derby. No capes AND high school/college. Realistically, I plop the characters into settings I’m familiar with or at least can do really minimal googling for research.
12. Is there a trope you haven’t written yet but really want to? That diner au? (I am working on a no capes verse diner fic but that’s different.) This is the post about a diner au where the main pairing are falling in love while in the background the minor characters are dealing with cryptids either real or perceived because the whole thing is taking place at a 24 hour diner at 4 a.m. I have So Many ideas on how to approach it that I can’t actually pick one and so it’s probably gonna keep bouncing around my brain for another couple weeks.
13. Is there a trope you wouldn’t write if it was the last trope on earth? Fake dating. I’ve read some good fics but I would never write one, too much relationship drama for my style. There was only one bed. Again, Too Much relationship drama. Coffee shop au. I just can’t. I’ll read them? But I refuse to write them.
17.  What fic are you most proud of? So I answered this one already but I’m going to do a different fic this time. I’m going with New York's Favorite Roller Derby Team: The Barricade Beauties because it is SUCH crack but it was so much fun to write and research and I loved leaning into the romcom thing with Jack and Kath. Plus I took two fandoms that are just so male character dominated and pulled the women and wrote a fic that is female driven and has female friendships at its heart and I’m really proud of that? Also I still cannot get over the fact it got any response because it is so niche and such crack but you know what? It’s a solid fic and I stand by it.
Thank you so much for these Pigeon!!! <3 The questions can be found here.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
@agent13: Jackie hasn’t been active in quite a while, but she’s always been kind to me and her blog has has A+ opinions and content.
@ar-se-ne: IDEK how long I’ve been following Cristian, but he’s a really nice guy with whom I have similar interests. He’s also someone that I’ve kind of of been inspired by in some ways. I don’t want to get too personal information, but it involves introspection and self improvement and yeah. I’m proud of him. He should be proud of himself.
@chujo-hime: I remember like circa 2012-2013 I had a ~moment~ because the webmaster of FYBN followed me. Chujo always has quality content, and is someone I respect for being very genuine and respectful. If something’s drawn her ire or made her bitter, she has a reason for it, and can write a solid meta on why it’s bullshit. At the same time, she’s someone who I’ve looked to when I consider how to handle my own fandom disagreements. It’s not worth arguing with people on the internet, it’s never fun. So long as people enjoy what they enjoy? Stay in their lane and let others do the same? We can all get along~~~
@cimikat: Katie is another person who I don’t even remember following. I can’t really remember my tumblr experience before her, though? I can say without any hyperbole though that she’s probably the nicest person I’ve ever encountered on this website? Literally, I can’t think of a single time I’ve seen her be salty. Upset and disappointed, sure, but she doesn’t wallow in negativity the way some people do and have in the past. If she enjoys something, she’s enthusiastic about it. If she no longer enjoys it? You won’t see her b*tch about it. She’s just very upbeat.
@dazzledfirestar: Daz shares my love of certain villains (Sin and Crossbones) while fully recognizing they’re deplorable human beings. That’s just one of the more superficial reasons I respect her. She’s another person who’s also genuine, and whom by following I feel like I’ve actually learned a lot? And I actually like to learn. Ignorance isn’t always mean spirited, and in the past I’ll admit I’ve been an ignorant white boy. Not that I was prejudice, there was just a lot I was either blind to or unaware of.  I’ve learned a lot about Romani culture by following Daz. A lot of history, a lot about the struggles and persecution they still face to this day. I also learned lot about the LGBT community; which honestly was a big help when I was trying to figure out/accept my bisexuality.
@diaryofawriter: What do I even say about you? believe we met because we both RP’d in the same fandoms and enjoyed the same content. Comics, OUAT, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. She’s both listened to me flail or rant countless times, either feigning or expressing genuine interest… for that I’m truly appreciative. She’s also helped me when it comes to letting go of things that are no longer fun or enjoyable for me (OUAT) and focus on the things that do bring me joy. A role model in that sense. >.>
@diisnerd: Leah. Leah was someone I met though a mutual friend, and while they’re closer than I am with her… I let me just say I have so much fucking respect for Leah. She’s just a good, loyal, protective, and caring friend. We have a lot of the same interests, too. We don’t talk all that often about them, but when we do it’s always an enjoyable conversation.
@dreamimpcssiblethings: Kath. Jesus. You know how much you mean to me, I should hope. You’re one of my best friends. It’s not even that we like a lot of the same things (we do) but you’re just very hard not to like? You’re super intelligent, super passionate. Be it about fandom things, classic literature, or just life. If one good thing came out of the rise and fall of my OUAT fandom, it was meeting you. All the salt is worth it for knowing you~
@ilikethequiet: Ally was one of the first people I met in the OUAT fandom, via a mutual friend/aquiantence. She’s a wizard when it comes to making edits and graphics. She’s someone with whom I’ve been salty on many an occasion, and I lured her into the iZombie fandom with me when our favorite actors transitioned over to that show. She’s just a delight. She also somehow made an AU graphic for a trashy ~problematic~ hateship look classy? Real friends hunt down topless screencaps so they can make you smutty collages for your birthday.
@jjoelswatch: Sarah is one of the first people I can remember following on tumblr. She’s another person where I wouldn’t recognize my dash without her. I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but I really respect her. She’s just a good person, very down to Earth and very witty. We don’t talk that much, but it’s always very pleasant when we do? Sarah was the first one to reach out and respond when I came out as bi. I’m still not out to my family. When I posted that little confession, I didn’t know what to expect. I simultaneously cared and didn’t care how people responded. It was weird, because it was something I had tried to deny and rationalize for so long. It’s something that no one should even care about, but Sarah empathized and realized it was kind of a big deal for me? Her reassurance that I wasn’t alone, even in such a short and concise message meant a lot. She’s one of my favorite mutals tbh.
@kennyhoemega: Bethany is a Goth Goddess. I’m not just saying that because she demanded the best compliment. On a superficial level, she’s just really pretty?? Now that’s out of the way, let me tell you legitimate reasons why she’s one of my favorite people to follow. She’s got great taste in music, she loves Star Wars, dabbles in Marvel and Harry Potter. You see a theme here with people I follow. She just also tends to reblog really neat things unrelated to those? I’ve gotten into astrology because of her. It’s mostly her fault that I’ve started watching wrestling again, bc there’s nothing good on TV and her passion is contagious and the gifs she reblogs are wild. She also has the best tags out of anyone I follow, bar none. I don’t even know when I first followed her either, around 2012 or so, but I know that it was absolutely 100% Sarah’s fault. Thank you, Sarah. TBH the first time I remember interacting with Bethany was when I added a gif and sarcastic comment to one of her salty posts about people trying to woobify Brock Rumlow. The next day, I realized this was likely not the best way to make a first impression? Fortunately she assured me that she got it, and that we were cool. Which is a relief, because as I’ve told her (and IDK if she believes me) she’s probably one of the coolest people I follow? It’s come to light that neither of us are big talkers, so we don’t actually talk that much… but she’s really rad. IDK when it started but she’s consistently been in my tumblr crushes for ages. Lots of mutual reblogging, again, lots of respect. She’s witty and intelligent. That’s not butt-kissin’, I’ve seen her post about certain tests and looked them up out of curiosity and wow. Yeah. Bethany also has the longest compliment, so that should make her happy. There was something about my needing a nuclear bunker if she wasn’t on this list. She deserves it though, she’s another one of my faves.
@kittenspawn: Nichole is my unofficial big sister. I say that as someone who actually has a big sister. She messaged me in 2012 with questions about Bucky and Natasha, and from that point on she was screwed. She got me into Hellboy in turn, but I like to think I’ve thoroughly corrupted her and caused her to spend far too much money on certain things. Nichole is someone who I can go weeks without talking to, and yet we can fall right back into conversation as if we talked the night before. She’s been a terrible enabler over the years, but she’s also been there for me during some difficult times and when I’ve done very stupid and questionable things. I know she’ll say I’ve been there for her as well, but the scales are seriously tipped here. When I need advice, or when I need to talk to someone about something serious… she’s the person I go to. I can always count on her, and she’s pretty much family at this point.
@ohmygil: Gil. I think I found you through Davis? You’re just a very sensible person, and very rational about a lot of things. It’s refreshing to see that on the internet these days. You’re someone who I don’t think I’ve ever had a actual ‘discussion’ with, but I’m including you here because I really enjoy your presence on my dash. I stopped reading DC regularly with the New 52, and pretty much all my DC intake these days is absorbed through your blog. You also get points for liking Superman. Some people think he’s too powerful, or a big boy scout, and while I’ve never regularly collected his titles I am a fan.
@prof-anity: …You know, I was tempted to leave you off this list just to be a dick. Yours would be the longest entry, so I’m keeping it short because what is there to even say? How much needs to be said? Seven years ago you met a bitter teenage douchebag on a message board. You made the mistake of accepting his friendship when he reached out to you. You’ve stuck with me through highs and lows, man. It’s one of those relationships again, where we may not talk every day. We may not be up to date on the details and goings on in each other’s lives… but you said it yourself. Our friendship has been one of the best constants in the past seven years. A third of your life, btw. Isn’t that depressing? You are, truly, the best friend I have ever had. One day I’m going to meet you, hug you, and then insult you to your face. You’re truly a brother to me. I love you.
@readytocomply: Stef! Stef is a delight. Always pleasant, always fun. She’s also super creative? She makes great edits, great cosplays, and is just pretty damn great over all. Stef is another person who I try to model myself after when it comes to shipping things. Re: Multi-Shipping. Stef ships Steve and Bucky. I do not. Stef also ships Bucky and Natasha. Stef respects canon and appreciates Sharon Carter. All this may sound inane but I’m glad I didn’t meet Stef until I did, because 2013 Tim might have been a little asshole re his ships and missed out befriending a great person because of his own stubborness… that could cross into douchebaggery. Stef has quality content on her blog at all times. Sebastian Stan. Marvel. Star Wars. Mark Hamill.. Harry Potter. Tron. Just general film. Chicken nuggets. Stef is a quality person with a quality blog.
@rocktheholygrail: Dana is someone I met through the iZombie fandom, and she is another wizard. A gif wizard, who has too often indulged my requests or suggestions. She’s another person whose enthusiasm is contagious. I was able to convince her to watch the entirety of Prison Break (save the revival) in less than a month before it was taken off Netflix. I don’t think I ever apologized for that. Dana also is trash tho, bc like me, her favorite iZombie character is the trashiest. I say that tongue in cheek, at least the first part. It’s really been great though to have someone who recognize a character as both human and horrible, and who is capable of watching and enjoying them despite their being problematic. If this was another fandom, I’d expect to be judged or ostracized, but instead I’m enabled once again.
@swanmagic: Gia is another person who doesn’t post on tumblr much (at least her personal) these days, but I’m including her because she’s been one of my favorite RP partners for years and we still talk from time to time on twitter. She’s just a great writer, great person, great friend. She’s another person who has excellent (and varied) musical taste.
@thealbooty: I met Alberto through Davis. It’s another thing where I don’t remember the circumstances, there was just one day where suddenly Alberto was in my life. Alberto is just a good guy… and I just mean good. He’s pure. If Davis is Spongebob, I’m Squidward and Alberto is Patrick. Only not as dumb. We don’t talk as much these days which makes me sad, but I love him too. Back in the day the three of us used to have group Skype chats and watch movies together. There was one day when Davis couldn’t make it or wasn’t online, and he and I just watched Hellboy and chatted for a few hours. That’s when Alberto went from being a friend of a friend to my friend. I’m glad he’s my friend.
@thejazzdalek: Max is another person, like Gil, who I’ve never really had a discussion with? He’s followed me for ages though, both on tumblr and on twitter and I appreciate that. I don’t really know him that well after all this time, embarrassingly. He seems like a nice guy, though. Big into Doctor Who, OUAT, DC, Marvel, just sci-fi and fantasy in general.
@timelessmulder: Emily-Alice is someone who I’ve been mutuals with since like 2012 I think. I don’t even know if we’re in the same fandoms anymore, but we keep following each other regardless. Over the years we’ve discussed everything from OUAT to DC, and these days when we talk it’s mostly to pick apart The Flash. She’s someone who has been with me for ages though, and has seen things.
@uhohjonsnow: So Betty is one of the first friends I actually made on tumblr when I engaged in fandom? I was an obnoxious teenage white boy who thought he was straight and acted like it, and she tolerated me anyway. Again, she’s someone who was witness to a lot of nonsense. We really were dicks to each other, lmao. I adore her though, bc she really is sweet and laid back. We went for years without talking, not due to any falling out, but we just drifted apart. She actually took a year off tumblr and recently returned, and we reconnected. She also accidentally deleted her blog and started fresh, so um, go follow her!
@uminoko: We’ve been mutuals for like years, and she’s just a nice person? Again, that’s a pathetic compliment, but it is true. She’s also another individual who I feel I’ve learned from by following? Part of that has to due with her being a former civil rights lawyer, but beyond that she’s just yet another smarty pants who I don’t talk to that much. She also  messaged me privately when I came out, and made me laugh when I needed it. Also, she’s an actual Russian who is a fan of Black Widow and Winter Soldier.
@uncleclustersthirdbrain: Donnie. This might be a little weird, because Donnie and I only reconnected like two weeks ago after three years of not really talking to each other? Again, there’s no bad blood, and he deserves to be on here. I’ve actually known him for five years, we met through his girlfriend Morgan. Donnie’s another person who has seen things, re seen me at my worst. Most obnoxious, outspoken, salty, dickish… and so on. I’ve always sort of looked up to him, though? Back when 17 going on 18 year old Tim met him, there was a sort of ‘notice me sempai’ thing going on. He’s yet another person who is too cool for me. In spite of toolish tendencies, there were times when Donnie reached out to make sure I was okay when I was being dramatic and having anxiety attacks over damn comic books. It sounds ridiculous, and it was, but at the time comics were my escape and how I dealt with a lot of tough shit I was going through. I was invested. Heavily invested, to an unhealthy degree. He’s just a good person who cares about his friends, and people in general. He’s also a fucking brilliant writer, who just recently put out his first comic. So I’m going to use this as another excuse to pimp it for him. Not because he’s my friend, but because I’m a selfish bastard who wants to read more and wants you to give him money so he can make more. He makes no personal profit from it, all the money goes towards paying his artists and the production. I’ve pretty much walked away from buying monthly comics, but as I’ve told Donnie, this is one I would pull. The first issue of And The Hare had some of the best dialogue I’ve read in a comic in easily the last year. At least.
@xeleyan-tequila: I met Chelsea through the OUAT fandom, and like me she gave up on the show a long time ago. She’s another person I don’t really talk to that much these days, but she’s a lovely person with a lovely blog who posts a little bit of everything. There are personal details to our relationship I won’t get into bc it’s no one’s business, and though we’re still friendly we sort of fell out of touch. I enjoy following her though, and she’s a wonderful human being.

When is a book not a book?
I recently came across a competition where an author was offering free publication for the winner, where the entrant can write a novel using the characters mentioned in his trilogy, with exception of the main characters.
While it sounds like a fun and exciting opportunity; a great way to expand the universe of a series you loved and get published. (Because, I gather you wouldn’t enter the competition if you did not like the series.) I even entertained the possibility for a moment. And then I realised that even if you get credit for the writing, you don’t own the intellectual property. The characters belong to someone else. And I’m sure the publishing deal would recoup the publishing costs and goodwill from the sales.
Which I hate to say, reduces the work you’ve put your blood sweat and tears into as simply fan fiction.
There is still a bit of stigma in the writing and publishing world around this kind of writing. It is slowly merging into a genre in its own right, but there are still legal issues around copyright, plagiarism, intellectual property and distribution rights that keep the waters muddy. Arrangements have to be made each step of the way with the author of the fan fiction and the creator or the source material for it to step into ‘big girl pants’ and become a real source of income from writing.
Maybe the author running the competition is looking for a co-writer to inspire him and keep the series alive, or grow the universe much like Marvel or DC Comics? I praise his ingenuity, but at the same time can see major pitfalls for emerging authors. Especially as a debut author. You’re not likely to get another traditional publishing deal when you have already pigeon-holed yourself as a fanfic writer.
That’s the information I’ve gotten back from many of the publishers I’ve questioned.
Having said that, many well-known authors are now writing in someone else’s intellectual landscape: Margaret Stohl with the Black Widow series, Leigh Bardugo with Wonder Woman, James Luceno within the Star Wars Universe, and I could continue listing more and more. Franchises are becoming larger and more lucrative, and writing fan fiction, is becoming a legitimate career. But, this would only be true for established, cult, and large franchises. Small and mostly unknown (like in the competition that sparked this blog) end up doing a huge disservice to an emerging author if they plan on releasing their own work in the future.

There’s a lot to be said for ghost writing, or releasing work under a pseudonym in these areas to protect your brand and credibility. But in a landscape that is in a major state of flux, the publishing industry struggling to catch up with technology and pop culture, claims professionals have made today, may change tomorrow.
In the end, it is the readers who hold all the power. Their decisions on what to buy and read will determine the future. Whether it be growing and expanding the fan fiction genre or not – remember YA and NA are only new genres specifically created from market trends in the last 5 or so years after the popularity of series like Harry Potter, Twilight, Divergent, and The Hunger Games.
We even see this dilemma play out in Rainbow Rowells ‘Fangirl,’ as the protagonist, Kath, struggles to find a voice with her writing and her professors deeming fanfic not a real form of writing… Like Kath’s world, fan fiction is massive on the internet in real life. Even Amazon.com have recognised this growing market and launched its own Fan Fiction Publishing division, splitting royalties between the company, the original author, and the fanfic writer. Though all that time and effort only reaps you a 20% cut, compared to a 90% share for original work in e-book format. It’s certainly food for thought, and at the end of the day you need to be passionate about your work; and maybe the monetary recompense, or credibility, pale in the enjoyment you get from your creative outlet.
In any event, I’m fascinated to see where this phenomenon will go now that a wave of franchises and cross-media events are taking place in popular culture right now.
In the meantime, happy writing.

Fiction or FanFic? When is a book not a book? I recently came across a competition where an author was offering free publication for the winner, where the entrant can write a novel using the characters mentioned in his trilogy, with exception of the main characters.

Behind the Books (Timothy Drake x Reader)
Oh look I accidentally wrote something that wasn’t from my request list. Oops. I swear I’m trying to write them I’m trying. :*
Your first thought when you meet Timothy Drake-Wayne is something along the lines of who the hell leaves their child to sleep in the library. To be fair, you did find him curled up between the shelves of your university library, right in your path. You hadn’t realized who he was at that point, but moreso you were annoyed with the kid sleeping on the floor, in the area you needed to restock, a half hour before closing. Naturally, you weren’t a happy camper.
But of course, you’re paid to be polite to patrons, so instead of vocalizing your annoyance, you crouch down next to the pale boy and gently nudge him awake.
Next thing you know, you’re narrowly dodging a book swung at your head, and the boy is muttering apologies. You really aren’t the happiest, but he asks your name and looks at you with such hope that you can’t stay mad. When you ask for his, he smiles a smile that stretches far past the bags under his eyes and tells you.
And he leaves with a smile and a promise to return, and at this point your shift is almost over.
You see him in your library everyday for a month and exchange pleasantries all the while. Then he stops coming.
A week passes and he shows up again, this time with a hefty tray of coffee and textbooks. A boy who’s rocking the punk aesthetic is with him, and you can’t help but admire what a lovely couple they’d make. You give the two of them a friendly smile and continue with your book stacking duties.
Maybe if you had stayed back a few moments you’d see the flush blossom high on Tim’s cheeks, and his friends waggling his eyebrows with a smirk.
But you didn’t now did you?
Your shift ends eventually and as you return your cart and clock out you catch Tim and his friend making their way towards you.
“Good evening boys!” You call out as they close in, “I do happen to be off my shift, so if y'all need help finding anything, I’m sure someone can help.”
You watch curiously as Tim flushes and the boy with him snickers heartily. When it becomes apparent that he won’t be speaking, his friend does so for him.
“Tim here was telling me all about the angel that works in his university library, and I just had to see for myself.” The stranger says, with a self-satisfied smirk as Tim’s porcelain skin goes seven shades more red. You hold back a laugh, and give a friendly smile.
“You must be talking about my co-worker.”
And you kind of hit it off with Kon, who he later introduces himself as. The two of you have a mutual love for teasing Timothy and you don’t think you’ve ever seen the boy so flustered.
You almost find yourself saddened when you have to leave, not having noticed the time which had passed.
“Sorry boys, I’ve got to go! Early morning class tomorrow morning.” You say, apologies floating in your tone. You aren’t quite sure if Tim looks more relieved or devestated, but Kon looks like he has a really good idea, well good for him, probably not for you.
“Tim can walk you back, I’ve got to go meet Cassie, but I’ll see you back at the dorm?” He doesn’t give either of you the time to respond before he’s running off. You just barely see a flick of blonde hair as he disappears from your view.
Setting your sights back on Tim, you can’t help but admire the red that has flooded his cheeks. He seems to be at a loss for words, and you weren’t so shy before, but suddenly you’re looking at your feet like they’re the most interesting things in the world.
“You don’t-”
“Shall w-”
Oh god. If you weren’t a blushing mess before you are now, and you’re probably looking a little ridiculous trying to gesture for him to speak in a way that looks more like flapping your arms around. He won’t meet your eyes, but to be fair you won’t meet his so it might not be for lack of trying.
“I just thought we might as well do as Kon suggested.” He murmurs, hands rubbing the back of his neck. You can’t find your voice so you nod, a small smile tracing your lips, despite the flush you feel blazing across your cheeks, no less present than before.
“I’d like that,” you whisper, “I’d like that.”
