Ok cosplay detour time because I still absolutely love these photos my friend (@ thealphalesbian on twitter and instagram) took back at Katsucon 2020, and I never shared them here. Avantika is absolutely some of the most fun I’ve ever had with a cosplay, thank you Matthew Mercer for creating a villain that was *extremely* my brand. Part of the fun was also gradually evolving and refining this cosplay over time (round one was a closet cosplay about two weeks after the New York show).

Debuted my Hunter cosplay at Katsucon this weekend! This is my first major cosplay build in three years, since Katsucon 2020 actually, so it was definitely a struggle at times to get back into the creative mindset. I honestly wasn't sure I'd get him done in time, but I managed, and I'm really proud of the end result!

I had a really fun Katsucon, and there were a ton of Zelda cosplayers who were very excited to see other Zelda cosplayers and nerd out.

When I first started doing this, back in the fall of 2019- I went and followed anyone with a Zelda cosplay. If they were local, I tried to be friends. And then 2020 happened and I started trying too hard to be friends and in some cases I alienated people. So I had to tell myself to back off and sometimes I was okay at that and sometimes not. Anyway, there is a local guy who was doing an incredible Twilight Princess Link and I wanted to be like him so bad it was incredible but I think I kinda freaked him out and he was always polite but distant. So I respected that and eventually did find people to yell with, even if their preferred fandom was Metroid.

A month ago I was at a con and an Astarian cosplayer crosses my path as I’m rolling in Link and he smiled and greets me as he passes and I was like I think that’s TP Link and that was cool.

Saturday night of this con, I go to chat a Link in the frostbite set and he is talking to that same Astarian and it is, indeed, this local TP Link. And he goes “HEY I follow your Instagram and your stuff is so good!”

And I almost fell on the floor but I managed to keep myself together long enough to reply “Omg, when I started doing this, your Link was one I aspired to.”

“Oh stop!” He says. “You’re better at this than me. Can we get a photo together?”

So we did and I managed to keep my shit together just long enough to not have a whole Senpai noticed me moment in front of anyone.

Like damn, that was so cool, and definitely a high point.

Motion Capture Suit from CATS Cosplayer: @loganarei  (IG)

Well my wife and I love cats the Broadway musical. And we had a pretty decent sized group for a cats cosplay group for Katsucon 2020. Right before the pandemic. I had an actual cosplay of Old Deuteronomy and my wife was Etcetera. There were maybe around 10 of us in the group.

 I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be hilarious if someone just went in a mocap suit and said they were a random cat from the terrible 2019 movie. So I decided when I got sick of being old Deuteronomy (it was large and very very hot), I could be that cat. I just bought a zenti suit and some ping pong balls. Wasn’t sure if I was even going to end up doing it. But I decided to while I was at katsu. I put it together in the hotel. My wife made a sign. I went out on the floor and people laughed. I love it. I love walking by and hearing it click in people and they start laughing.

I made her in 2019 and planned to have her at Katsucon 2020. But then, on the last day, I ended up having a medical emergency and had to leave the con early 🥲

The three iterations of my Redman costume: from G-Fest XXIII (2016), Katsucon 2020, and G-Fest XXVII (2022). @klen7 took the first photo and Scott Hamilton took the second; that’s my bestie Alana on the right in her King Ghidorah gijinka costume.

Redman V3 involved a lot of 3D printing: I designed the Red Arrow cross, Red Knife, and belt studs myself in Tindercad. All held up under the usual convention strains, although I was too afraid to throw either weapon during the new short @zagorudan directed. Tragically, the sick boots I bought didn’t take kindly to spray paint, so Alana made boot covers for me at the eleventh hour. Couldn’t have done this without her printer either (try explaining to a library why you need to print a knife).

I’ll keep tinkering with it. The shoulder trim now draw onto my morph could use another layer, the boot covers over my shoes with comfortable but real boots would look better, and my three-part mask could be simplified—I may commission someone to design a face mask that can be 3D printed to go over my balaclava. And while giving clear plastic eyes a light coat of yellow spray paint looks great, they’re extremely hard to see out of. I’ll probably mimic the other Redman cosplay who was at G-Fest this year (never saw him in full costume, sadly) and switch to clear yellow plastic.

I have posted a mun photo forever ago in my Huntress cosplay from uhhh, I wanna say Katsucon 2020?   Katsucon is always around Presidents Day/Valentines day so it was RIGHT before NYS and the rest of the US closed down.

:^).  I have severe body image issues so I dont post myself a ton here, I have pcos and even though I work out, am physical at my job (working out is usually a 1.5 mile walk since Im an ex hospital worker who worked up until June 2022 at a hospital, and I worked there for ten and a half years) its a bitch to loose weight and I lowkey hate how I look.

Jiminy Deimos is getting attention again so I guess I should do an update

First off thanks for the interest and the well wishes! I am still alive and if you think 2014 was a long time ago those photos are actually mostly from 2011 💀

I haven't posted anything cosplay in a while because yanno covid kinda screwed up the convention scene and also I moved ~300 miles in 2020 and have been focusing on getting a stable job and I FINALLY GOT A WRITTEN WORK PUBLISHED and all that but coincidentally like two days ago I was looking into 2023 cons, particularly Boston based, to start breaking into the scene again!

Deimos needs a little bit of work since I last cosplayed him (Katsucon 2020) and I'm thinking of making a post-purgatory variation as well as updating his regular look. I'm also working on a few new characters I haven't cosplayed including Alpha-5 from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (the show turns 30 in 2023!), Cobra Commander from GI Joe: A Real American Hero (my latest hyperfixation that I've been posting a lot about on my main blog and that show turns 40 in 2023!), the Puppet/Marionette from Five Nights at Freddy's, and Dr. Herbert West from Re-Animator (couple cosplay with my real life partner who is the Sanford in my Madness photos as Dan)

I will post more info as I confirm which cons I'll be going to and when I get done with the cosplays, but don't worry, Madness fans, I still have Deimos and he will still make appearances! Alpha and Cobra Commander are taking precedence for the coming year however for their respective significance in my life and their shows as a whole
