I have wanted to do a post about matching characters/couples with Taylor Swift songs for ages. Now I’m finally getting around to it since her new album Lover was just released! Something I love to do is to associate characters with songs and often times, I can match them up to a song almost perfectly. So after having this album on repeat for the last few days, I’ve taken in the meanings to these songs and have applied them to Furuba characters that I think fit them. I think I’ll do this with Taylor’s other albums too and to other songs in general. It’s pretty fun!
I’m doing a video on YouTube covering this post so this is acting as my script. :))))
WARNING: Major Fruits Basket spoilers under the cut.
I Forgot That You Existed
“Then something happened that magical night
I forgot that you existed
And I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t”
This one was tough at first. The first one that came to mind was Akito, but I don’t think most of the characters would be cold towards her. But then I started thinking about Kyo’s relationship with his dad and was like “That’s it!” This one is about having obsessively worried about the pain someone has caused you for so long and then one day, you forget about them and the pain they’ve caused you completely because you’ve moved on. After the series ended, I think Kyo really did move on from the hurt that his father put on him after neglecting him. Especially since he has Tohru who is someone who does give him the love he needed.
Cruel Summer
“I snuck in through the garden gate
Every night that summer just to seal my fate
And I scream for whatever it’s worth
“I love you”, ain’t that the worst thing you’ve ever heard?”
I really had to focus on what this song was about because I could not decode it haha. I had to look up the meaning. So I found out that this one refers to what happened in 2016 when Taylor was being harassed by Kim and Kanye West as well as on the internet and how difficult that period was. But at the same time, she had just met the love of her life and their relationship had just started. It’s about them going through this trying time together.
Based on the meaning, this song could apply to more than one couple, but I chose Yuki and Machi. They both were going through years of hardship and low self-esteem and when they met each other and were starting to fall in love with each other, they were still going through it, but they went through it together all while still worrying if they were burdening each other with their instability. The love and support they have for each other in both of their situations is beautiful. I can’t think of a more perfect song for them.
Lover
“I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ‘em all”
I got more than one comment from ya’ll saying that this song is Kyo and Tohru and yup, I agree. One of the most romantic songs ever so, of course, it fits them. I love how this song just lists off things that she and this person Joe plan to do as they spend the rest of their lives together. I can see Kyo and Tohru doing all these things after they moved away together.
The lyric I mentioned especially fits them because...they literally spent three summers together. In which one of those summers, their romance blossomed. That lyric alone is so them! I love it!
The Man
“They wouldn’t shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve”
Kind of reminds me of Akito? It’s about double standards between what a man does and how if a woman did the same thing, they’d get criticized for it while a man would be praised. The song talks particularly about excessive dating and how men are patted on the back for it while women are often slut-shamed for playing the field. Which doesn’t really scream Akito. Although she did play both Kureno and Shigure, she was never ridiculed for it.
However, she took on a male persona because her mom forced her to. It really makes me wonder how she would’ve been treated while still head of the family if she displayed herself as a woman. One post recently reminded me of what Kyo said after finding out she was female which was “Had I known, I wouldn’t have been so rough on her.” That quote is what made me relate this song to Akito because she was presented as a man. But I have no doubt the zodiacs may have viewed her differently, maybe may have been even less scared of her, had she lived as a female. Something to think about...
The Archer
“I’ve been the archer
I’ve been the prey
Who could ever leave me?
But who could stay?”
My favorite song! I did a single post about this one immediately after hearing it because I had to mention how much it reminds me of Kyo and Tohru. More so it reminds me of Kyo specifically, but it applies to his relationship with her as well. All that I could think of while listening to it for the first time was “Oh, my God, this is Kyo!” The song is about realizing how weak you are along with coming to terms with the fact that all everyone ever does is abandon you.
The chorus really reminds me of him. “I’ve been the archer”: he’s hurt others, including Tohru when he rejected her. “I’ve been the prey”: he’s been hurt by others, mainly the Sohma’s when they ostracized him. “Who could ever leave me?”: He can’t believe that they would just neglect him. Because who would? Especially a child?! “But who could stay?”: But he understands why. Because he is the cat. I will never not think of Kyo when I hear this song lol. Like I’ve said, I wanna do an amv to this song for the true form arc because it’s perfect!
I Think He Knows
“I think he knows
His footprints on the sidewalk
Lead to where I can’t stop
Go there every night”
This song sounds kind of obsessive to me. That really reminds me of Kagura and Kyo. Because that chick is crazy ahaha. Although the song talks about the love interest also being into her, which Kyo is not, I still apply it to them. Especially because I think Kagura is delusional in regards to how she thinks Kyo feels about her. So when the song says “I think he knows”, when I apply it to Kagura, I find it hilarious because Kyo thinks the exact opposite of her.
Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
“It’s you and me, that’s my whole world
They whisper in the hallway “She’s a bad, bad girl”
Another one I had to really decode because it uses so much imagery. Apparently, it talks about her political stance which I kind of see? But it can also be interpreted as a romance that is unstable due to everyone around them trying to break them apart. It makes me think of Kyoko and Katsuya because, from the start, they’ve had odds stacked against them that kept them from really being together. Even after they were married, the Honda family was very hostile towards her. So they constantly were trying to overcome that. But I think ultimately they just focused on their love for each other and never let it go.
Paper Rings
“I like shiny things
But I’d marry you with paper rings
Darling, you’re the one I want”
This song is so cheesy but so cute. It talks about not carrying about formalities, such as engagement rings. She’d marry him anyway even if he gave her a paper ring because she’s that in love. I was reminded of Hatori and Mayu. The song also talks about the relationship being “cat and mouse for a month or two or three”, which Hatori and Mayu were for longer than three months haha. I can see Mayu not caring about the formalities of a wedding, she’d still be happy because she would be with Hatori forever and that’s all that matters.
Cornelia Street
“I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again
That’s the kind of heartbreak time could never mend
I’d never walk Cornelia Street again”
This song is very story-based so it was a little hard to relate it to the characters because it’s so personal. Like, they’ve never been on a Cornelia Street that we know of lol. However, I think the chorus really applies to how Tohru feels about Kyo. In the latter half of the series, we see her so stressed about the idea of him being locked away forever because she doesn’t want him to leave her. And again, after he rejects her, she’s completely heartbroken so much so that it’s evident that time could never heal that wound.  Fortunately, he stayed with her in the end. :)
Death by a Thousand Cuts
“I look through the windows of this love
Even though we boarded them up
Chandelier’s still flickering here
Cause I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s not”
First thought was Rin and Haru because it’s the only breakup song on the album. It talks about someone leaving her and her not being able to get over it no matter how hard she tries to. Haru could never move on from Rin. Like we see in the manga, he tears apart a classroom because he’s that upset that she broke up with him.
I also love the lyric “Trying to find a part of me that you didn’t touch”. Rin and Haru have been together since they were children so there’s always going to be that deep connection between them.
London Boy
“They say home is where the heart is
But that’s not where mine lives”
Another very personal song so it was hard to relate it to the characters because none of them are in love with an English boy hahaha. But from what we got from Fruits Basket Another, Hana married a foreigner so I’ll just apply it to them. That’s all I got lol.
Soon You’ll Get Better
“You’ll get better soon
Cause you have to”
This song is deep, man. It talks about a loved one being in poor health and her being in denial about it. She just has to assure herself that they are going to get better. I really wanted to apply this one to Tohru and Kyoko, but Kyoko died before Tohru could think “You’ll get better” so there was no hope. Instead, I related it to Rin and Haru since Rin is in such bad health throughout the whole series whether it be mentally or physically, which constantly left Haru worried about her. He gave her the support that she would pull through in the end and from what we see, she did get better. And I just hope she’s in a better mental state after the series ends.
False God
“We might just get away with it
Religion’s in your hips
Even if it’s a false god
We’d still worship this love”
This one uses a lot of imagery about the toxicity of a relationship, but yet the two refuse to let it go. In my opinion and a popular one at that, Shigure and Akito have the most toxic relationship in the series and they’re aware of that. However, they couldn’t give a crap about it. As the lyric says “Even if it’s a false god, we’d still worship this love”. Even if their relationship was wrong, they’d still embrace them. I think it fits them perfectly. The chorus also alludes to a lot of sexual situations so that’s also pretty fitting as they’re one of the very few couples that we get any details of a sexual relationship about.
You Need to Calm Down
“You just need to take several seats
Then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate”
Addressing the haters. So I thought it was perfect for Uo and Hana who are always so fed up with that Yuki fan club bullying Tohru. I feel like they would say all these lyrics to these girls. Good for them for standing up for Tohru! She needs it!
Afterglow
“I don’t wanna do this to you
I don’t wanna lose this with you
I need to say “Hey, it’s all me, just don’t go”
Meet me in the afterglow”
This one is really straightforward. It’s about someone sabotaging their relationship and apologizing to their partner for it. It makes me think of how Kyo felt after he called Tohru delusional and pushed her away. He very quickly regretted saying that to her especially after she fell off the cliff and for a few minutes, he thought she was dead. And the last thing he said to her was so hurtful. But he reconciles with her in the end and apologizes for being so stupid.
The song discusses that pain she feels that she hurt her loved one so badly. As we’ve seen so many times before, Kyo doesn’t want to hurt Tohru. Even though he hurt her feelings because he thought it would benefit her. But, no. Wrong thing to do! At least he learned from that mistake and I’m sure he will never do that to her again.
Me!
“One of these things is not like the others
Living in winter, I am your summer”
My least favorite Taylor Swift song ever actually. It’s so cringe. So I honestly don’t want to talk much about it. I guess I can relate it to Akito and Shigure? Because Shigure thinks he is the one for Akito and not Kureno? Idk...
It’s Nice to Have a Friend
“You’ve been stressed out lately, yeah, me too
Something gave you the nerve to touch my hand”
At first, I thought this was just a friend song, but it’s actually about two childhood friends getting married later on. So that changes things. I think of Kisa and Hiro. Although we never see them get married, they’ve been childhood friends forever and they have that very innocent relationship like the song describes. And I headcanon that they do get married when they’re older so...
Daylight
“I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you
I don’t wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you
I’ve been sleeping so long in a twenty-year dark night
And now I see daylight”
Omg I’m obsessed with this song right now. The message of it really means a lot to me. It’s about being in a dark place for a long time and then someone comes into your life and you’re so in love with them that all the mistakes you made and trials you went through in the past are just a fading memory. This person is your daylight. The one that helped pull you out of the darkness and into the light.
Hands down, this is Kyo and Tohru. Specifically, I think it describes Kyo’s feelings towards Tohru after they got together. We see that he’s been in a horrible place for a really long time. He never thought he would ever find someone to love him back. But Tohru did and in turn, she helped him come out of that dark place. Like these lyrics state “I once believed love would be burning red, but it’s golden”, I think he saw love as a fantasy, something that couldn’t work. But instead of it being “burning red” (impossible and toxic) it’s “golden” (beautiful and amazing).
~
So that’s it! If you have listened to the album and are familiar with the songs, let me know if you agree with the characters or couples I chose or if not, which characters would you associate with these songs?

Hoping I’ve Got It All Right Chapter 1: Ain’t It A Crime, That?
Tumblr media
AO3
Akira doesn’t think he’s stopped shaking since he was arrested.
Dad and Papa are worried about him, he knows. They keep checking in on him in his room and they speak to him in low tones. He’s been expelled from Seven Sisters and only leaves the house to help Papa in the garden. He doesn’t even want to chance working at the flower shop; Papa doesn’t need the bad publicity.
He’d been so sure the trial would be fine. His accuser, the drunken man he’d pushed, didn’t even bother to show up, and the only witness was the woman he’d been trying to help. Akira was a good kid—he had decent grades, was a fair ballroom dancer when he was young, was polite and quiet and the son of a police officer. The only doubtful thing on his record was that he was adopted and no one knew who his birth parents were. Why wouldn’t he be free to go?
But then the woman said he’d attacked the man. Assaulted him.
And Akira’s fate was sealed.
He’s never been so grateful his dad was a cop. Because of his influence and Akira’s nearly spotless record, he was given probation rather than jail time. But because his probation requires him to attend school and the judge ordered he leave Sumaru City, Dad and Papa have to find both a school that will accept a transfer student with an assault charge on very short notice and someone to watch him.
His aunts and uncles are furious. Akira is surprised Uncle Eikichi hasn’t broken into the judge’s house or committed some other strange criminal act yet with all the noise he’s been making, and the last time he’d spoken to Miki, his cousin said Uncle Katsuya and Aunt Maya were already scheming to release a story about corruption in the criminal justice system.
Two weeks have passed since he was arrested, but those two weeks may as well have been twenty years. All he wants is for life to go back to normal.
*
“That didn’t really happen, huh?”
“Astute deduction, Prosecutor-san. Any other gems of wisdom while I have you here?”
“You’re a frustrating suspect, you know that?”
“I try to be.”
*
Papa comes home on his lunch breaks so he can call what seems like every high school in Japan to plead Akira’s case. Akira hates listening to Papa beg for kindness from strangers and being rejected, so he goes outside to tend to his flowerbed.
He’s been enamoured with flowers since the first day he met Dad and Papa. The colors are beautiful and their shapes are varied, and they can say anything you could ever need. Akira thinks he speaks the language of the flowers as well as he can Japanese.
He wonders if his flowers will miss him when he’s gone. He hopes whoever takes him in will let him plant more.
A hand falls on his shoulder. “Are you here, sweetie?” Papa asks, voice soft, and Akira realizes he must have been spaced out again. He nods. Papa says, “Have you taken your pill today?” and Akira shakes his head. Papa sighs. “Come inside and take it, please. I’ll make you a sandwich to eat with it.”
Akira gets up, brushes the dirt off his knees, and follows Papa into the kitchen. It’s small, like the rest of the house, but it’s all they really need. Soon enough, Papa is giving him a plate with a roast beef sandwich, a glass of water, and a small green and white pill. “Thank you, Papa.” He swallows the pill and takes a bite of the sandwich. Then, even though he doesn’t really want to talk about it, he asks, “Did you have any luck today?”
Papa smiles, but his eyes are tired. “I’m on Tokyo now.” Akira perks up a little at that, because Miki is going to Kosei. At his hopeful expression, Papa winces. “Kosei’s a bust,” he admits, “as are most of the other boarding schools. I’m starting on non-boarding ones next, so Tokyo isn’t a definite no yet.”
“Tokyo would be nice,” Akira says.
Papa pats him on the shoulder. “I think so, too. Only an hour away by train, and Maya and Katsuya visit often enough, and you can see Miki.” Papa smiles. “Maybe you can get back in the ballroom again.”
“Not competitively.”
“Of course not. But you always liked dancing with Miki outside of competitions, right?”
Akira smiles. “And I liked dressing up.”
“You took longer to get ready than Miki, sometimes,” Papa recalls. “You decided that if Miki got to wear pretty dresses, all of your outfits had to be colorful, too. I can’t even remember how many stores we went to to find that orange bowtie you insisted on.”
“It didn’t even match the beading on her dress,” Akira laughs.
He’s glad Papa looks a little more relaxed now. His parents are dealing with enough stress as it is.
When he’s done chuckling, Papa lays an arm across Akira’s shoulders. “If you’re feeling better when your dad gets home, you should go for a ride. It’ll do you good to get out of the house.”
That sounds like the last thing he wants to do, but he knows Papa is right, so he says, “Yes, Papa.”
He’s rewarded with a pleased smile and a kiss on the top of his head. “I have to go back to work. I love you, Akira.”
“Love you, too.”
*
Akira usually loves riding on Dad’s motorcycle. Ever since he was a kid, it was their primary bonding activity. Papa had flowers, and Dad had the motorcycle.
But right now, with, well, everything, it’s hard to enjoy.
Dad drives them a little ways outside of the city to a cliff overlooking the ocean. The sun is just setting and the sky is orange. It’s a beautiful view.
They sit on the soft grass and, for a while, they don’t talk. Dad has always been a man of few words, after all. After spending lunch being gently interrogated by Papa, Akira ccan’t say he minds. Then Dad clears his throat and says, “You know how much your Papa and I love you, right?”
Akira feels his eyes start to go hot. “Yeah,” he says.
“And this probation is only for a year. Then you get to come home.”
“Yeah,” Akira says again.
Dad lays an arm across Akira’s shoulders, and Akira leans into his side. “You did the right thing,” Dad says, “helping that woman. Everyone who matters knows that. If you ever get in trouble for defending someone like that again, I’ll stand by you, even if it breaks your parole.”
Akira starts shaking again. He blinks, but doesn’t comment on the wet trails streaming down his face.
Dad continues, “I never want you to compromise on your morals, Akira. You can’t let one shitty incident deter you from helping people. Your Papa and I will always back you up for doing the right thing, no matter how many people we have to fight.”
Akira burrows into Dad’s side like a little kid and says, “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Dad says, and they stay like that until Akira’s tears dry and his breathing evens.
*
They get home and, for all intents and purposes, Papa looks thrilled. “I found a school in Tokyo,” he says.
*
The next few days are a flurry of activity. Aunt Maya knows a café owner willing to put Akira up for some money, and they have to send Akira’s measurements in for his new school uniform, and they have to pack all the essentials into a single cardboard box, unable to guess how large of a room Akira will be given. Even his birthday passes without much notice where it’s usually a bash.
On Saturday, April 9, Papa and Dad drive Akira to the Sumaru City train station. His single cardboard box has been sent ahead to Tokyo, so he just has a day bag (a handsome brown one, courtesy of Aunt Lisa for his last birthday), and he’s wearing the dark material of his new uniform. His parents wait with him on the platform.
Papa’s wringing his hands. “Are you sure you don’t want us to come with you?”
“I’m sure,” Akira says. He has a feeling he won’t be well received and  he doesn’t want them to see that. “I’ll text you when I get settled.”
The platform starts to rattle. His train is close.
Papa squeezes him tight and pecks him on the cheek. “I love you, baby.”
“Love you, too,” Akira says, and then he’s passed from Papa to Dad, who hugs him like it’s the last time he’ll ever get the chance.
“We’re only an hour away,” Dad says.
“Yeah,” Akira says, “I know.”
*
“Oh, right. They did say that was today.”
Akira looks at the man who’s taking him in for the next year and says, “I’m Suou Akira. Please take care of me.”

Hay! I had a pretty bad day (a bunch of homophobic assholes who claim to be supportive of the LGBT community kept trying to defend their use of F**got as a term to me, a bi person) so I was wondering if you could do a poly thing with Serizawa, Reigen, and their s/o? Thanks !
Hey there anon! I’m so sorry that happened, that’s so nasty of them and you didn’t deserve to deal with it at all. I hope the rest of your day was better! If not– I hope this helps a bit and that tomorrow treats you nicely!
EDIT: fixed some format and grammar errors.
It’s late when a knock sounds at your door, startling you out of your half-conscious state on the couch. A brief glance at the clock to see it was close to 1 AM filled you with apprehension– who the hell was at your door so late at night?
There was another light knock, making you quickly find your phone in case the need to call someone came up– though the text from Reigen saying he was coming over calmed your nerves.
“Thank god,” You mumble, hand over your heart as you stand to let him in. You were almost certain that you knew why he was there at that hour, despite you saying multiple times you were fine.
He’s in his comfy clothes– hands in his pockets as he looks up at you non-nonchalantly. You can tell he’s concerned though, even more so when he steps forward to greet you with a kiss– the hand on your cheek a little more gentle than usual.
You move to let him in, crossing your arms as he takes off his shoes and flips open his phone. “Katsuya will be over soon– told him to pick up some soup.” He looks back up to you. “How are you feeling?”
A sigh leaves your lips, looking away as Reigen reaches a hand up to touch your forehead. He wasn’t going to feel anything– you weren’t sick the way he thought you were.
“Better.” You shrug out of his touch, turning from him to walk in the kitchen– ignoring the narrowing of his eyebrows. His footsteps sound behind you, and despite how you should be happy to have your boyfriend there (the other on his way); you’re feeling a little cornered.
“Do you want some water?”
Reigen nods, opting to lean against the counter as you shuffle around your cupboard for a glass. His eyes on you make you feel warm– like he’s looking right through you.
As you begin to fill up the cup he steps forward, gently wrapping his arms around your middle from behind– his chin resting on your shoulder. You sigh again, setting the water cup down and allowing yourself to lean back into his hold.
“So,” He starts, voice a little muffled from his place against your neck. “Wanna tell me what’s up?”
Another knock at the door sounded, making Reigen pull away after kissing your cheek.
“I’ll go let him in– go pick out a movie?” Nodding as he pulled away, you grabbed the glass and headed towards your living room. Serizawa’s gentle voice carries in from the front– sounding tired from classes as he asks if he should start heating up the soup.
You can’t help the feeling of guilt bubbling up in your heart. Leaving your two boyfriends to run the office today with little to no explanation– no doubt causing them worry; to making them feel like they had to come over so late at night, surely exhausted from a long day.
The couch cushion dipping next to you shakes you away from your thoughts, looking over and meeting Serizawa’s eyes– a gentle gaze that makes you smile.
“How was school?” He begins to shuffle on the couch, rearranging himself to stretch his legs out– making enough room for you to lean back against his warm chest. Your head slots under his chin, sighing as he wraps a strong arm around you.
“Fairly easy tonight, we’re preparing for an exam.” Serizawa’s chest rumbles as he speaks, fingers trailing up your arm gently. “I think I’m ready for it now.”
“That’s good.” Silence follows after that, the man’s warm hold on making you feel sleepy and comfortable– the previous feeling of discomfort from Reigen’s sudden appearance gone. You were happy that they were here, needing this kind of comfort after today.
Reigen finally sits down as you’re about to drift off, calling your name to sit up. You’re so comfortable that you don’t want to move– but your stomach grumbles as the smell of chicken noodle filters through the air.
Begrudgingly, you pull yourself up, thanking Reigen as he hands you the warm bowl. He reaches out the other to Serizawa, before settling back against your cushions. You sip the broth gently, going over what you wanted to say in your head, and how exactly to explain it. “I really didn’t feel good when I woke up... just not in a sick way.”
Expecting one of them to question what you mean, you’re surprised when Serizawa only hums.
“Ah,” The dirty-blonde next you starts, arm wrapping around your shoulders in a comforting touch. “One of those days, huh?”
A light feeling blossoms in your chest as you hear how understanding he sounds. “Yeah…I just, felt like I couldn’t get out of bed today. There’s no reason in particular why I felt so shitty, so I guess that’s why I just said I was sick and couldn’t come in.”
Serizawa swallows his noodles, sighing through his nose as he leans forward and sets his now empty bowl down. The position against the arm of the couch must have been uncomfortable, now that you were sitting up and Reigen was there, as he shuffled around to sit up straighter and move his feet to the floor. “I understand your apprehension to tell us– but I think we out of anyone else understands what you felt the most.”
“I’ve had days where I really can’t move as well, kinda like my body is lead.” Despite being so expressive and flamboyant during the day and around others, the Reigen next to you was much more real– vulnerable and tired. As far as you knew, he was only comfortable showing himself like this to you and Serizawa only.
He turns to you, hand squeezing your shoulder affectionately. “Don’t be scared to tell us next time. We’re here for each other, right?”
You could only nod, heart swelling for these two men.
Once your soup was finished and the dishes washed, the three of your found yourselves gravitating towards your bedroom. It was late, much too late for them to trek back home despite their protests (plus there was no way you would kick them out after the immense comfort they brought to you, unprompted.)
“Thank you guys,” You mummer, settling into Reigen’s chest as Serizawa wraps himself behind you– both of their embraces making you feel more lethargic and bringing a comforting warmth.

helloo if ur doing the writing asks thennn 1, 4 & 7?
writing ask meme thing baby yeah
1. of the fic you’ve written, which are you most proud of?
well when it comes to FIC-fics... there's really only one...... i mean i've written and not published many in my day but. the only one that i have any intent to finish and then post anymore is the "beidou finds two little guys on her ship what happens next may shock you" fic, which is currently unfinished. i AM proud of it though and i'm gonna get back to writing it as soon as i'm finished making my little pokemon fangame
4. what are some themes you love writing about?
evidently, found family, BUT in a more broad sense i like writing about loneliness, and the struggle to cure it. loneliness is a core feature of a lot of my ocs, too, particularly in the Main Four:
nate's loneliness is very blatant and he'll freely admit that katsuya is his first and only (at least for a while his only) friend. going in full depth of nate's loneliness would involve explaining his entire character, so i'll leave it at that
kouki is lonely but believes that he should be even if it's hurting him, and struggles with communicating his own thoughts (and just speaking in general). someone telling him they consider him a friend or even just trustworthy will without fail surprise him every time
it's less obvious than the others because haruka is sociable and has plenty of friends, and he's well-loved by his siblings, but even he's got his fair share of loneliness. he's got to be the pillar for everyone else to lean on, so he isn't allowed to be weak, or he'll bring everyone else down with him (or so he believes). haruka cries alone, and no one's allowed to know
and nora likes to pretend the only support he needs is from kouki, and that the only person who needs to understand him is kouki, and his primary purpose is to keep kouki safe and to help him when he's struggling to speak. nora is a blunt force weapon who is either neutral or angry, so that kouki is free to feel any emotion he'd like and be safe to do so. and if nora's feeling anything other than neutral or angry, they're not gonna say a damn thing unless kouki goes out of his way to try to comfort them. to anyone other than kouki, nora does not have other feelings, and even if they did they're not telling YOU about them
(as you probably noticed, haruka and nora's loneliness..es are similar in concept, but haruka will tell you with a gentle smile that nothing is wrong and he's fine, whereas nora will tell you to shut up and storm off somewhere. likewise, haruka genuinely does not want to let you in, but nora is hoping deep down you might follow them)
this turned into a bit of an oc character study more than anything, but i think it gets the point across better than just trying to list themes i like... plus helps me out because i don't know where to draw the line between "themes" and "genres" LOL
7. create a character on the spot…. NOW!
UHHH UHHHHH UMMMMM....... i needed a few minutes and a shuffle through my music for this i'm really bad at on-the-spot characters. mysterious card game gambler who's never lost a game and cocky players always end up challenging just for a chance at the title of "guy who beat the guy who's never lost". the gambler always agrees to play the opponent's game of choice no matter what it is and all seems to be going well for the challenger until they slowly start noticing that the cards' illustrations are a litlte odd and then they recognize faces of various famous poker/blackjack/etc champions that suddenly went missing, but by the time they realize it it's too late and the gambler has won another card for their collection

B Block – Round Seven
Toru Yano vs. Tama Tonga
Tama was in full make up, because Yano, in case you weren’t aware, is terrified of him. Tama snuck up behind Yano on the ramp then popped up from under the ring and poor Yano was beside himself. Tama taped Yano’s wrist to the guardrail, but Yano used scissors to cut himself free and get back into the ring at 19. “Break!” said Yano, and Tama mimicked him, so Yano battered him with a turnbuckle pad. He threatened to use the ring bell hammer, then as the referee took it from him, he went low on Tama and rolled him up for the three-count. Have to say, I quite enjoyed that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We’re shown Masahiro Chono on commentary. Looks like he enjoyed Yano’s antics too.
Satoshi Kojima (w/ Hiroyoshi Tenzan) vs. SANADA
Kojima controlled the opening lock ups, then both men dodged the other’s offence for a stand off and both hit Dragon Screws. Sanada was able to apply the Paradise Lock and dropkick Kojima before getting the better of an elbow exchange, but then he hit machine gun chops in the corner, so naturally Kojima replied with the real thing and planted him with a DDT. Sanada landed his springboard dropkick then, but Kojima survived strikes to hit the Koji Cutter and a suplex for two. The elbow pad came off to signal the lariat, but Sanada ducked and landed a big suplex and the TKO for a near-fall, then he cinched in the Dragon Sleeper. Kojima’s arm dropped twice, at which point Sanada opted for the moonsault, but it missed! He landed on his feet after another attempt only to receive a lariat to the back of his head. Kojima almost got caught with another Dragon Sleeper, but was about to counter to the Emerald Flowsion! Two-count only. Lariat from Kojima – Sanada kicked out at one! Running lariat! One, two, three.
Kojima wins! Yes! His first points of the tournament. I liked the detail of Sanada choosing to try and finish with the moonsault, as he has a couple of times, but Kojima had him scouted. Good match here, particularly the hot closing stretch, though it took a few minutes for them to get into a groove. ***1/4
Michael Elgin vs. Minoru Suzuki (w/ Taichi & El Desperado)
Elgin opted to flatten Desperado first, then he elbowed Suzuki on the outside, but was caught by the rope-hung armbar coming back in. He might’ve stemmed the tide, but he got distracted by Desperado, and Suzuki took advantage by targeting Elgin’s arm, stabbing it with a chair and letting his minions do the rest. Suzuki then returned to finish the job, battering Elgin with the chair, and smashing his arm into the ringpost. Back in, a one-armed Elgin managed a powerslam and the slingshot splash, and a pair of rolling elbows earned two. Front-and-back clotheslines and more elbows connected, but Suzuki yanked him down into a Fujiwara armbar until Elgin reached the ropes, where the Suzuki-gun boys interjected once again. Suzuki rolled into the armbar, but Elgin managed to lift him and dump him to the mat, then he avoided the sleeper and hit the Falcon Arrow for two. Buckle bomb, ref bumped, and Elgin took care of Taichi and El Desperado. The attempted powerbomb was reversed to a sleeper, but Elgin nailed a spinning back chop and followed with the Elgin Bomb! One, two, three.
Good stuff, and nice to see Elgin working a different kind of match (though who knows how much of a choice he had). ***1/4
Juice Robinson vs. Kenny Omega
Juice scored a trio of armdrags, earning a pair of dismissive slaps from Omega, so he landed a couple of jabs and monkey flipped Omega before clotheslining him to the floor. After dropping him over the guardrail, Juice rammed Omega into the turnbuckles and scored a diving crossbody for two, but Omega turned the tide by suplexing him over the top-rope to the floor! Juice’s injured left leg was wrapped around the ringpost, and Omega applied a ringpost figure-four, then dumped him onto the timekeeper’s table with a shinbreaker! Back in, Omega continued his distinctly Canadian legwork, applying a heel hook until Juice made the ropes. A reverse DDT and chops got Juice back into it, and a full nelson slam connected for two. Omega went back to the leg to set up the Finlay Roll, but the follow-up moonsault hit the knees.
Cannonball from Juice, ‘rana from Omega, lariat from Juice! The falling powerbomb dumped Omega for a two-count, but the Pulp Friction was countered to a Snapdragon suplex. The cross-legged Ushigoroshi set up the V-Trigger, but Juice hit back with crescent kick, only to receive a jumping knee to the face soon after. Omega flipped out of a German, Juice smacked him with the haymaker, and the Pulp Friction was attempted once more. The One-Winged Angel counter didn’t work, but the reverse frankensteiner connected for a near-fall! The V-Trigger smashed Juice and Omega lifted him for the One-Winged Angel, but Juice countered to a small package – one, two, three!
That is one hell of an upset. Wow. This was another good match, though lacking in crowd heat for the most part. The ending, on the other hand, was another matter – a huge reaction to the finish and the noise rumbled on for several minutes. I enjoyed the nods to Bret Hart and the overall story of the match, and feel like it could’ve been something special had it taken place in front of a more sympathetic crowd (Korakuen Hall, for instance). Still, the shock result is plenty memorable! ***1/2
Kazuchika Okada vs. EVIL
They traded shoulder blocks early on, then Okada nailed a big boot, seated dropkick and neckbreaker for two, and maintained control with a straitjacket chinlock. Evil powered out and sent Okada to the floor, where he whipped him into the guardrail and engaged in chair-on-chair-on-head violence (name suggestions, please?). Back in, a surfboard curb stomp earned two and Evil applied a chinlock of his own, but the senton missed, giving Okada the opening to hit his series of back elbows, the DDT and a leaping uppercut for two. The reverse neckbreaker was countered, however, and Evil capitalised with a sidewalk slam for a two-count, but Okada scored a flapjack to put both men down.
Okada landed the reverse neckbreaker out of the corner and the diving elbow connected. Rainmaker signalled, but easily blocked, with Evil hitting the side kick, but Okada (eventually) dropkicked him down to the floor from the top-rope. Outside, Okada looked for the jumping crossbody over the guardrail, but Evil threw a chair right at his head! Ouch. He dumped a bunch of chairs on the floor out in the crowd, then planted Okada onto the pile with Darkness Falls! In a distinctly un-evil moment, Evil brought Okada back into the ring with him, then hit a fisherman buster for two. Darkness Falls – two-count only. He signalled the STO, from which Okada broke free, then attempted a super fisherman buster only to get pushed down and nailed with a shotgun dropkick! Tombstone blocked, suplex from Evil blocked, The Dropkick from Okada! Uppercuts landed, but Evil scored a counter lariat and dumped Okada with a half-and-half suplex! Lariat – one, two, no! STO countered into the Rainmaker! Okada picked him up and hit a second Rainmaker, then a definitive third was ducked and Evil floored Okada with a headbutt. STO… countered to a German suplex! Rainmaker… countered to the STO!!! One, two, three!
Holy shit! I mean, it was a possibility after Omega lost, but I didn’t actually expect it to happen. Really good match too. A couple of rough spots here and there, but it flowed well and built to an excellent finish. Great stuff. ****
Post-match promo from Evil(!) and we’re out.
B Block standings after Round Seven
Okada – 12
EVIL – 10
Omega – 10
SANADA – 8
Suzuki – 8
Elgin – 6
Yano – 6
Robinson – 4
Tonga – 4
Kojima – 2
Final thoughts: B Block returns to form in a big way! Everything is evil was enjoyable and the booking was surprising in the best way. Kojima’s win was a great moment, while the wins snagged by Juice and Evil give us a glimpse into the future. Just a breeze of a show to watch. I’m a happy Welshman.
I’m back tomorrow. See you then.
Fourteen down, five to go.

Who made the first move
In terms of romance, definitely Yuugi. He was the first one to realize that he was in love with Jounouchi, and thus the first one to confess. Jounouchi was completely blindsided by this, and took a while to come to terms both with his own feelings and the fact that it was okay for him to feel this way (and that he wouldn’t be ruining Yuugi’s life if he admitted that he returned his feelings—far from it, actually), but even in the midst of telling Yuugi this, of trying to explain how he felt and where he was coming from, Yuugi was the one to make the first move again by kissing him outright. Jounouchi only got his act together the next day, when he tried once again to explain, ended up saying “screw it,” and this time was the first one to kiss Yuugi.
But still, especially considering it took Jounouchi so long to sort things out, Yuugi was absolutely the one to make the first move.
Who said ‘I love you’ first
Canonically (and I love that this is canon), Yuugi!
Tumblr media
That’s from the official colored version of the manga, by the way. I added the text (and we all know that’s an accurate translation), but the coloring is official. Everything about that is official. It’s canon. Yuugi canonically told Jounouchi that he loved him first. It’s the only love confession in canon. ♥
That said, even if we’re talking about inarguable romantic confessions—as in, “who told the other that they were in love with them first”—then that still goes to Yuugi, as described above. Yuugi realized his feelings first, and Yuugi confessed first, and somehow, despite the canonical “I love you” pictured above, Jounouchi was still surprised. (Though the idea that anyone, much less someone as incredible as Yuugi, could ever be in love with him played a big part in that. Poor boy has no self-esteem.)
How often they fight
Very rarely. Jounouchi and Yuugi have such complementary, compatible personalities that they rarely clash. Their opinions often align, and even when they don’t, they’re far more prone to simply discussing it than they are actually fighting about it. The only thing that really moves them to actual arguments is if one of them is self-deprecating, because neither one of them stands for that. And even then, the arguments never turn to insults, never turn to degrading the other, never turn to dragging the other down, because that’s the very thing that upsets them! And I mean, you could try to say that I’m just viewing them with rose-tinted glasses, but I’m really not. We see in canon that the only time Jounouchi grows angry with Yuugi is when Yuugi is tearing himself down. We see in canon that Yuugi vehemently stands against Jounouchi’s opinions when Jounouchi’s opinions are negative ones about himself. Otherwise, they work in perfect sync and harmony. They’re absolutely comfortable with one another, and minor disagreements don’t escalate into huge fights. They communicate too well with one another for that to ever happen.
So yeah, they fight only very rarely, if ever. And whenever a fight does occur, it’s always resolved by the end. They’re never ones to let it lie/go to bed angry.
Whose big spoon/little spoon
Jounouchi is the big spoon, usually, and not just because he’s so much taller than Yuugi. Rather, it’s because he’s absolutely the person to just randomly throw his arms around Yuugi and pull him into a hug/snuggle. He’s a very cuddly guy, that Jounouchi Katsuya. That said, Yuugi has his fair share of hugging Jounouchi from behind as well, especially in bed. They’re definitely not too shy to cuddle.
What their nicknames are for each other
They don’t really use nicknames too often, really! Yuugi does switch to calling Jounouchi by his given name, Katsuya, once they make their relationship romantic, and sometimes he says it with a certain lilt just to see if he can get a blush out of Jounouchi (which works, most of the time, though to be fair the first handful of times Yuugi called him “Katsuya” was enough to make him blush). Jounouchi almost always just calls Yuugi “Yuugi,” though if he’s really tired sometimes he’ll shorten it to just “Yuu.” Other than that, they’re not really ones for nicknames …
… although, there was one time when Jounouchi—having just woken up, with his hair all mussed and his voice still rough from sleeping—called Yuugi “babe,” and the sight of Yuugi’s face turning very, very red was enough to wake him up the rest of the way. He, of course, took full advantage of the situation to point out that Yuugi was blushing, to which Yuugi covered his own burning face with a pillow and said, “I am not, shut up!” and it was all very endearing.
Whose the better cook
Jounouchi! He had to learn to cook at least basic things growing up, given that his mother walked out when he was ten and his father was an abusive alcoholic who wasn’t about to be good for anything ever. Of course, they were impoverished (with Jounouchi, child that he was, serving as the breadwinner given that his father was both unemployed and a chronic gambler), so he couldn’t afford very expensive ingredients, and wouldn’t know much of what to do with them anyway given that he was so young and didn’t have time to learn. But that said, he at least learned to make basic dishes (things with rice and egg, that sort of thing), which is more than Yuugi ever had to learn, given that Yuugi lived with his mother and grandfather, both of whom provided for him.
When they moved into their apartment together after high school, Jounouchi did teach Yuugi what he knew, and he also took the opportunity to learn more recipes. Truth be told, while Jounouchi is probably not going to win (or even enter) a cooking contest show any time soon, he’s actually a pretty good cook! Yuugi, at least, always loves whatever he makes. And Yuugi himself has improved considerably, even if Jounouchi still does the lion’s share of the cooking (especially since, once they’re in their condo and officially committed, he’s home more often due to the radio station demanding less hours than Yuugi’s gaming company, and as such has more time to do things like cook and clean). So all in all, Jounouchi is the better cook, but Yuugi has still improved a lot over time.
Their song
I’m going to take this to mean “songs that I think describe their relationship” versus “the song that they consider theirs,” since I don’t have enough experience with Japanese music to know what they would consider “their” song to be. That said, I have several! Like, seriously, an entire playlist’s worth, though I’ll keep this brief, haha.
Both Perspectives:“My Best Friend” — Weezer“When everything is wrong, I’ll come talk to you.You make things all right when I’m feelin’ blue. You are such a blessing, and I won’t be messingwith the one thing that brings light to all my darkness …
“There is no other one who can take your place.I feel happy inside when I see your face.I hope you believe me, ‘cause I speak sincerely, and I mean it when I tell you that I need you …
“You’re my best friend, and I love you.And I love you, yes I do.”
Yuugi’s Perspective:“Favorite Thing” — Yuna
“It’s in the way you drink your coffee, and how you have faith in me.And you love your cameras, and you tell me that I’m good enough.Boy, you bubble-wrap my heart.
“The way you look out of the window, and you stay because you know.It wasn’t your intention, but you can’t helpbut to crash in, like the wave I’ve been waiting for.
“And all the things that I used to be afraid of—suddenly, it all disappeared.
“When I feel like the world has turned its back on me.When I feel all alone, and I’m left with nobody.Oh, when people wanted me to be somebody else …But you love me completely.”
Jounouchi’s Perspective:“Fear the Future” — Emma Blackery
“They say there’s strength in numbers, and I was weak as one.But now that we’re together, look how strong I have become.I used to fight alone, now I fight for me and you.And the people who upset youare now my enemies, too.
“When I start to miss you,I go to sleep, and thenI’m another day closerto seeing you again. And I want you to remember thiswhen you put yourself down:I cannot fear my future now that I have you around.”
“My Best Friend” would probably work best as “their song” since it works from both perspectives—but either way, the others are perfect, too, so they needed mentioning. ♥ (And again, I have more where that came from, but … these three are probably the best fitting ones, so. Here they are.)
Who remembers their anniversaries
Both! And when it comes to their anniversaries, they usually plan activities together, rather than surprising each other with spontaneous gifts. Surprises are usually saved more for birthdays than anniversaries, you see. ;) But yeah, they’re both good about remembering things like this, especially since they’re both sentimental dorks who are thrilled that they have someone to celebrate anniversaries with.
Their favorite thing to do together
Play games, of course! They play all sorts of games together, given that they’re both huge nerds (to the point where the draws beneath their bed are filled with games instead of clothes). Card games, board games, figure games, video games—their condo is filled with games (and so was their apartment before it), and so gaming is absolutely their favorite pastime.
Aside from gaming, though, they also do like watching various anime and other shows together, and they tend to get into new manga and such that’s released as well. They also like watching bad B-movies to make fun of them, haha. (Not horror ones, though. Even B-level horror movies can be a bit much for Jounouchi sometimes. Yuugi, thankfully, understands.)
How they would get engaged
Well, unfortunately, same-sex marriage is still not legal in Japan, and so it definitely wasn’t back in the early ‘00s when they first got together … and as such, in all honesty, Jounouchi proposing that they go in on a mortgage together (for their condo) was very much like a marriage proposal, given that he was proposing that they live together (and be together) for the long haul. They’re basically engaged after that. ;)
But that said, if/when marriage does become legal in Japan … I could imagine them hearing about that, hearing that it’s legal now, and not really thinking too much about it. It’s in the back of their minds, but they don’t really need it, do they? They’re already committed to each other. This is for real, and it’s forever. But that said, I could see them sitting on the couch one night, watching TV, Yuugi leaning into Jounouchi’s embrace, and Jounouchi saying, “Hey, so … now that it’s legal, we should probably get married.”
And Yuugi’s quiet for a minute, letting that sink in, before he says, “Yeah, okay.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
And they smile at each other, kiss, and that’s that.
What their wedding would be like
Well, here’s the thing. They would want it to be a private, personal affair, just family and friends. And traditionally (at least from what I’ve read), this is how it’s done in Japan! Marriages are held at a Shinto shrine, and a Shinto priest conducts the ceremony, which is only witnessed by close family members of the couple in question. I feel like Yuugi and Jounouchi would also want to extend this to close friends, so those in (requested) attendance would be Yuugi’s parents and grandpa (he will still be alive for this, he will live forever, let’s not think about how devastating it’s going to be for everyone when he finally passes on), Shizuka, Honda, Anzu, and Bakura. (It should be noted that Shizuka and Honda are absolutely counted as Jounouchi’s family. Shizuka is his little sister by blood, and Honda might as well be his brother. His parents are not invited for obvious reasons.) They drink the traditional sake, say their vows, the ceremony is concluded, and then they can have the reception wherein all the other guests are thus let in so it can be a good time and a party.
This is what they would want, but the problem here is that they’re both … kind of … famous.
Obviously Yuugi still has his fame from being the King of Games, and by this time he has created some amazing games during his time as a developer for MalleaBoundary Games—enough so that his name is out there as a hot shot developer, at least. Meanwhile, Jounouchi is a very popular radio host who also does things like press coverage of entertainment events, Let’s Plays for the station’s website, et cetera. Setting aside his international fame from his time playing Duel Monsters publicly (second in Duelist Kingdom and a finalist in Battle City are both big deals, especially since he was so new to the game!), in Domino City he’s quite the big name, and his Let’s Plays get views all across Japan.
So although they want it to be a small affair, even at the reception, press definitely try to crash it. So there is a nice ceremony at a Shinto shrine, as is custom … buuuut there’s an issue with keeping the press out (especially as Jounouchi recognizes some of them and tells them to “come on, guys, screw off!”), and Honda has to tell Jounouchi at one point that he can’t knock a reporter out on his wedding day, right before Honda turns around and knocks out the reporter for him.
“You are the best best man,” Jounouchi says.
“I know,” Honda says.
(Note: I don’t think the whole “best man” custom is actually a custom in Japanese weddings, but the dialogue worked well, so let’s just have that little tidbit in there for funsies if nothing else.)
How many kids they’ll have
None! I’ve discussed this before, but the short version is that Jounouchi has a lot of hang-ups when it comes to being a father, to the point where it’s something that he feels actual fear/aversion to, and Yuugi has, in all honesty and again with canonical evidence to back it up, has never been very good with/never liked kids too much. (Like, he likes kids from a distance—he wants to create games that they’ll enjoy, but he’s just not very good with kids up close and personal. He gets very aggravated by them very easily. I can reference manga chapters if people need me to.) This, plus the fact that he works so many hours and knows that the bulk of the child rearing would be with Jounouchi even if they did adopt, leads him to never really bringing it up. By the time they do think about/discuss it they’re in their late thirties/forties, and by then it feels too late, so they just don’t. They’re child-free for life, and much happier that way, in all honesty. :) (They’re also the coolest uncles to their friends’/sibling’s kids, though. Like, Shizuka’s kids absolutely love their Uncle Katsuya, for sure. There’s no doubt about that.)
That said, they do adopt a bearded dragon shortly after moving into their condo. His name is Bat (specifically the Japanese word Koumori, which translates to Bat; they named him after the English name for the Devil Dragon Duel Monsters card). He’s as good as their child and they have him for many years. :)
