Australian common garden katydid, Caedicia simplex, Tettigoniidae
Although normally green, erythrism (a condition causing excessive production of red pigments) is not incredibly uncommon in this species or in grasshoppers and katydids in general.

Common names can be a bit hit or miss, but every time I see a giant katydid I think damn they got it right.

My entry to The Aussie Artist's 30K followers contest over on instagram, to create a Convergent or Regional form changing the pokemon types according to this format
I choose to change the TYRANITAR's line Rock type for Bug
Changing TYRANITAR's line from Rock to Bug was kind of an obvious choice since both LARVITAR and PUPITAR already had "Larvae" and "Pupa" in their names, the only challenge was to turn TYRANITAR itself into a bug
LARVITAR (Bug/Ground) is based on a Thorn Bug, I choose this due to their similar looking bodies and colors,
Tumblr media
PUPITAR (Bug/Ground) is not really based in any particular cocoon or pupa, even tho there are several species with spiky cocoons out there
KATYRANITAR (Bug/Dark) s the regional evolution of this line, it is based on the Armored Katydid or Armored Bush Cricket, a type of giant predator katydid from Africa. This bug fitted TYRANITAR perfectly as it is the "armor pokemon".
Tumblr media
KATYRANITAR legs are actually really long but remain folded most of the time. Due to its large size, hoping would be too hard, so they only use them in very specific situations, like pouncing over a prey from a long distance, or getting away quickly from a fight with a larger member of their species, as they are cannibals.

It really gives some chills to see Yochi defending his heroes with all his feral might!
Commission for the amazing @aimportantdragoncollector and her series:
It explores how Yoichi and AFO dealt with the lack of proper socialization and how this would come into play once Yoichi was finally freed by Kudou and Bruce
So if you would like to see a bit of character exploration and a bit of Ichiniisan content, I highly reccomend giving a try for this series v(’-^)-☆
Thank you for this commission!

Pink katydid!
I'm not done with it; I figured I might as well scan and upload just the bug before adding the background though, in case something goes wrong
These occur in nature; it's a mutation called erythrism and lots of different kinds of organisms can have it
