First Christmas Home
MERRY CHRISTMAS @kayladaugherty !!! Thank you for putting up with my crazy ramblings and asks! I hope you like it! I know you said no rush but I have plans for like, the next week so this was kinda? My last guaranteed time to work on it so I POUNDED IT OUT!!! NO EDITING WE DIE LIKE MEN
Since Yato met Hiyori, met Yukine, changed his life, he's been the happiest he's ever been.
It's been slow, but slowly and surely, his little plot of land in Takama-ga-hara has grown, mostly due to his collection of followers building him home sized shines. Every shrine contributed, the size of each adding to the size of his whole. And when he got enough, he put into motion his plan to build on his little plot of land.
To build himself-and his family- a home.
He had insisted on keeping it a secret, refusing to tell anybody (well, Yukine knew, but he was certain it was because Yato wanted help building it) so when it was finished, he could hardly contain his excitement.
He immediately planned a party, telling Yukine it was going to be a housewarming celebration  with all their friends.
But he had planned a surprise…
Day of the party
"How come Hiyori gets to greet everybody at the door and I can't? This is my house, it feels weird not to be a host at our housewarming party." Yukine pouted.
"It's because we're going to make a grand entrance once everybody's here!" Yato enthused. Yukine snorted.
"If that were true," he threw a half assed glare at his god "then you'd be in here with me." It was true too, Yato was running around trying his best to finalize the preparations while simultaneously keeping Yukine hidden away in the kitchen.
Hiyori could hear the two of them bicker from her spot at the door, ready to welcome everybody into her boys' house. People were due to start arriving any moment now.
She didn't want to admit it, but although she knew Yato's plan, she also didn't want the first face people saw when coming to a godly housewarming party, to be her human one. She wasn't even in her half ayakashi form which made her feel strangely vulnerable.
She heard a noise, a knock, then before she could touch the handle, Kofuku burst through the door, leaping onto Hiyori. Daikoku followed her in, his arms too full of brightly wrapped gifts to stop his mistress.
"Hiyorin!" Kofuku trilled "It's nice to see youuu!"
No longer surprised by Kofuku's antics, Hiyori smiled and returned her hug "It's nice to see you again too Kofuku! It's been too long! Daikoku, can you take those down the hall? The room on the left." She said the last part in a whisper. Even though the boys were still arguing she still wanted to make sure Yukine wouldn't hear.
"Of course, I'll be right back." He found the room easily and left the pile of gifts on the table set up in there for this very reason.
"Yukki still doesn't know?" Kofuku hung heavily in Hiyori's arms, which were starting to get sore.
Hiyori shook her head "No, and Yato wants to keep it that way until the planned time, so don't say anything!"
Daikoku came up beside them and relieved Hiyori of Kofuku's weight as she gave a sly smile, not saying anything.
"I'll make sure the missus stays quiet, don't you worry." he said with a wink.
"Thank you! The living room is that way" Hiyori said while pointing, then louder, "Boys, the first guests are here! Time to be quiet if you want to make your big entrance!"
The sound of them bickering immediately lowered, but didn't vanish completely.
The next guests arrived shortly, Tenjin and Mayu.
"Welcome Tenjin! I'm so glad you came! Though I didn't expect Mayu, I thought Tsuyu would be coming?"
"Tsuyu felt it more appropriate that I came in her place" Mayu bowed a greeting, one wrapped bundle in her hands.
"After all, Mayu has more history with Yato and young Yukine. And a personalized gift." Tenjin gestured to Mayu's bundle as she blushed a little.
Hiyori smiled. Mayu might not like Yato, but it was clear she thought of Yukine as a good kid and doted on him, just a bit.
"I can take that, if you go through there to the living room I can place this with the rest for The Surprise later."
Mayu handed the parcel over, and Hiyori ran it quickly to the designated room. By the time she got back the door was already knocking with the next guests, Ebisu and Kunimi.
Ebisu had grown a fair bit since he was reincarnated, now he looked around Yukine's visual age, and was struggling to hold a box almost as big as he was. Kunimi's arm was in a sling from Ebisu's latest adventure, learning to cartwheel.
Hiyori gave him a look of sympathy. “I hope you’re healing okay Kunimi, it was such a surprise to hear you got injured! How exactly did it happen again?”
Ebisu grunted under the weight of his wrapped box, and Hiyori pulled him into the house and pointed to the room. He set off while Kunimi explained his injury came from jumping to rescue his young master before he fell down a previously unnoticed well. When Ebisu returned sans box Hiyori took on the responsibility of unbundling the young god of his scarves and mittens to give poor Kunimi a break. Ebisu never said a word the entire time which made Hiyori a little worried, but she decided she’d find out later. It must have had something to do with the large box, and she’d find out what was in it with everybody else.
Over the next handful of minutes or so, other gods and their shinkis made their way to the house, and Hiyori greeted them all. She could hear the loud ruckus from the room the party was in, people were starting to get on with it and she could hear Yato trying to keep them from getting too riled up. She could also hear Yukine loudly protesting his being stuck in the kitchen, especially once he finished making the horderves and Yato had whisked them out to the guests. But there was one group left Hiyori was waiting for, Bishamon and whichever shinki came with her.
Finally Hiyori could wait at the door no longer. Just as she sadly turned away to join the party she heard the sound of footprints.
It was Kazuma, alone, out of breath. He leaned on the doorframe a moment before apologising for his tardiness.
“Veena said she had something to do, and it felt wrong to be arriving without her. Nobody else wanted to come, I’m so sorry. I know Yato had a whole plan, and now-”
Hiyori cut him off “Yato’s plan will be fine! I’m sure they’re both going to be thrilled you came, especially Yukine. You’re really important to him.” She smiled, “If you brought something you can hold onto it, just keep it hidden, it’s about to start.”
She led Kazuma to the living room, which looked so very different from when she saw it last. Namely, it had been decorated, clearly the guests had been busy. Hiyori caught Yato as he came running past holding a tray covered with a fancy serving lid.
“I thought we weren't going to decorate until later?” she asked
“Yeah well, Kofuku found the box and Daifuku couldn’t stop her before everybody got in on it. We’re going to have to blindfold Yukine. Now he’s going to know something’s up!” He pouted
“As if he didn’t before! Yato, Yukine’s a smart kid, and it’s not like you’ve been subtle.” Hiyori let him free to continue taking the tray wherever he was taking it.
Yato pouted as he walked away, and Hiyori left Kazuma as he had his turn being tackled by Kofuku while she made her way to the kitchen. She found the room empty.
She squashed her feelings of panic and immediately went to the gift room to see if that was where he went. Which, of course, it was.
He was staring at the pile in there with an unreadable expression. When Hiyori opened the door a bit more he turned to look at her.
“Is this his surprise? Presents?” His face was still frustratingly blank. Hiyori didn’t like it.
“It’s part of his surprise, please Yukine, let’s go back before he finds you missing.” Yukine did not move. “What’s wrong?” Hiyori asked.
“He’s been so cagey and secretive, I was almost starting to worry he went back to his father again, but it was just a Christmas celebration.” Yukine suddenly grew aggravated “He’s so infuriating! All that, over this??”
Hiyori placed her hand on Yukine’s back soothingly. “He wanted it to be a surprise, for you. That’s why he’s been acting extra weird. It’s because he loves you and isn’t sure how else to express it.” Yukine turned to her and grabbed her in a hug which she returned.
Over the years they both had changed a lot, and Hiyori was now much taller than Yukine, but she still hugged him the same as she always had.
They stayed that way for a while. When they broke apart, Hiyori pretended not to see the tears Yukine wiped away.
“Let's go back down quickly. Don’t want the dumbass to notice.” Yukine said. Hiyori laughed, and followed him out of the room.
Neither of them noticed the figure lurking out the window, eyes flashing.
They managed to make it back to the kitchen the moment before Yato came bursting in , and said it was Time. And he whipped out a black eye mask and put it on Yukine. Hiyori could tell that if he didn’t already know he would have fought getting blindfolded, but now he appeared resigned to his fate.
Yato led Yukine into the living room where everyone was hushed. The room looked amazing, garlands and tinsel everywhere, the tree glittering. Were those real candles and not tree lights on the branches? Hiyori made a mental note to blow those out the moment she had a chance.
The room was silent but for the breathing of the crowd. Yato sat Yukine down on a chair. And yanked the eyemask off. Everybody burst out in a cheer, a cacophony of merry Christmas, happy holidays, somebody yelled happy birthday but nobody could tell who. Yukine gasped, his eyes shining with the glamour of it all. Hiyori could tell he didn’t want to be impressed, but he was.
“Yukine!” Yato stood to the side, but still in front of everybody, as he began his big speech. Yukine turned to him.
“Yukine, you’ve been my shinki for years. We’ve gone through so many adventures, so many ups and downs. So many holidays. But this is our first Christmas in our own house, on our own shrine land in Takama-ga-hara. And I just wanted to say, thank you. Thank you for always being here for me, always believing in me, and always staying by muh-” Yato was hardly 3 sentences into his speech and he was already dissolving into tears.
Hiyori stepped forward. “What Yato’s saying is, he’s so proud of who you are and who you’re growing to be. And he set up this whole surprise to celebrate your first Christmas home!” Hiyori gestured to everybody and they all drew in breath.
“WELCOME HOME YUKINE! MERRY CHRISTMAS YUKINE!!” Everybody yelled, leaving Yukine to begin laughing as he jumped off his chair to start hugging everybody, tears in his eyes.
Yato, not one to let attention happen without him, swallowed his sobs and leapt forward only to trip and fall flat on his face. Ebisu laughed loudest, and Yato pulled himself up with a cheeky grin. “Oopsie! I just wanted to invite one more guest, Santa!”
Hiyori cocked her head in confusion. She knew enough about the godly world to know if Santa was a god anywhere it wasn’t in Japan, so she was very curious where Yato’s plan was going.
The front door burst open, and in flooded a bunch of shinki dressed like elves in red, white, and green. And in the middle of the group, dressed in a red suit with big black boots and a bell at the end of her hat strode-
“Veena?” Kazuma gaped as Bishamon joined the group, dressed to kill in the fanciest Santa outfit anybody had ever seen.
“Didn’t want to miss the party.” she said. And dropped the sack she had slung over her shoulder at Yukine’s feet. “Merry Christmas Yukine. These are for you.”
Yukine opened the sack to find tons of toys, most of which were intended for a kid a little, younger, than Yukine, none of which were wrapped. That didn’t stop Yukine from digging through the bag a bit before gathering the whole thing and dragging it to his room, his grin huge.
“Bishamon! You were supposed to gather the gifts from the other room from everybody and give him those! What is this! Trying to buy my shinki’s affections through bribery? Shameless! I shouldn’t have expected more from a skank like you!” Yato was already making a fuss as Bishamon pointedly tried to ignore him, looking at her nails.
“You didn’t leave the window unlocked like you were supposed to.” She stated simply the moment Yato stopped shouting to draw some breath. Yato gaped like a fish for a moment before shutting his mouth and turning on his heels.
Yukine was coming back, followed by the horde of elves who were carrying the gifts from the room to the party. They started handing the gifts people had brought to them, which they then passed to Yukine and he tore open the wrapping paper only to exclaim joyfully at every gift inside. The shinki dressed as elves also went outside and brought in additions to the dining table, which was rather obviously not going to be big enough for all the shinki Bishamon had brought. They also brought in more food and more presents, these ones intended for the guests themselves.
Yato was pouting a bit in the corner when Hiyori went up to him.
“Hey,” she said softly “What’s up? I was under the impression you set this up.”
Yato signed and ran his hand through his hair. “I did, but I wasn’t expecting her legion of, elves.” he said with venom. “I wanted her to just bring in the gifts everybody else brought, not show me up by bringing all this extra stuff. I’m sorry, I’m bringing down the mood aren’t I? I can go have this pity party somewhere else.”
Hiyori grabbed his shoulders and held him right where he was. “Now you just stop that. You have every right to be annoyed at her for doing this, but remember why you arranged this surprise to begin with. Look at him.” They turned to Yukine, who had just unwrapped Ebisu’s gift to find one of the fanciest drawing desks on the market, it had adjustable height, adjustable angle, and a spot for wireless charging on a cell phone.
He looked up to Yato and Hiyori, thrilled, and pointed at the desk before excitedly dragging it to his room. His head was no doubt full of plans of how he was going to use it.
“This is the first time we’ve celebrated Christmas, and you’ve gone all out to make it the best it could possibly be for Yukine. Yes Bishamon overstepped, but from what I hear, that happens. Have a talk with her later, she’ll understand. But for now, look at how excited he is, and be proud of what you’ve done to get it there. You organized this whole thing. And I'm so proud of you.” Hiyori slid her hands from Yato’s shoulders and gave him a kiss on his cheek. He turned to her and grabbed her hands.
“I couldn’t have done it without you.” He whispered.
“Don’t be silly, I just greeted at the door!” She whispered back
“It’s not just that, you’ve been a solid support for me through this entire thing, building the house, planning this party, heck, you even handed out most of the invitations!”
“Only because you’ve been too busy fulfilling wishes to hand them out yourself, you’ve gotten a lot more popular lately! Does that have anything to do with the final bundle of land you got from your most recent shrine? It’s a pretty big one right?”
“Yeah, it turns out I'm getting internationally popular.” Yato began to brag “Someone in the U.S built me a shrine that came with a whole bunch of land, which was why I finally got enough here. And she hasn’t even wished for anything other than for me to have a good Christmas!”
“Is this why you picked a holiday that we don’t really celebrate here in Japan?” Hiyori teased.
“.....Nooooooo…..” Yato looked away guiltily. “Besides, we do celebrate it here!”
“Oh yeah?” Hiyori grinned “And how is that?”
“We have a much more romantic Christmas Eve than westerners do!” And with that he swept Hiyori into a dip, kissing her passionately. Hiyori kissed him back just as intensely. When they pulled apart she held his face and looked into his crystal blue eyes. They smiled at each other fondly for a moment before realizing the party had dissolved into loud hoots and hollering.
Looking up they found everybody looking at them which almost made Yato drop Hiyori before pulling her up quickly. Everybody was clapping and Hiyori felt her cheeks burn. Someone fell upon Yato, someone who was holding a sprig of mistletoe.
“Yaaaaaay! Hiyorin and Yatty kissed under the mistletoe!!” Kofuku squealed loudly in their ears before being removed by her shinki.
“Sorry you two, she moves so quickly it’s hard for me to keep up sometimes.” Daikoku apologised. As he hauled his god off them, she flashed them an evil little grin, acting as if she knew more than they were letting on.
Everybody was still making such a fuss, Hiyori saw Yukine pretending to be embarrassed. Only she and Yato knew he wasn’t nearly as embarrassed as he was pretending to be, considering he had seen them kiss several times by now.
Yato clapped his hands loudly, full of renewed vigor. “Okay everybody! It’s time for dinner! I don’t know what Bishamon brought, but I have a baked turkey and I am dying to dig in! Let’s eat! Itadakimasu!”
Everybody gathered at the table and the rest of the night went perfectly. Dinner was a hit (there was some arguing over who had a better baked turkey, Yato’s or Bishamon’s, as well as arguments over mashed potatoes) And after dinner they gathered in the living room for party games, which got more and more rowdy until somebody did knock down the tree. Luckily Hiyori had remembered to blow out the candles (who lit those anyway? Nobody fessed up) and nothing had broken.
At 11pm the oldest of the shinkis, who had been enjoying various wines and spirits brought by Bisha’s elves (and several of the elves themselves) were beginning to loudly sing drunken Christmas carols. It sounded bad enough because they were drunk, worse because they didn't know the words or indeed, the tunes, very well.
It was around 1 am before the last of everybody left, leaving just Yato, Yukine, and Hiyori in a disaster zone of a house.
But it was Christmas, and they could clean up later, so none of them worried about it. Instead they went to bed, and dreamed of sugar plum fairies, dances, and of the light jingle of bells and footsteps on the roof. And if the house was clean come morning? Nobody was complaining, for they all had had a very, very, good night.
Good night, and Merry Christmas!

Why isn't the ship name for Vi and Caitlyn just "Violyn"?
I saw some people call it that, but I'd say it's bc Vi doesn't go by Violet. In fact, I hardly saw anyone catch that one tiny line in ep 3 lol

I have a habit of visualizing internet people as their icons, and I got so used to the other icon that I always just thought you wore a blonde bob and letterman jacket.
Every time I change my icon someone says this. All I can say is, same, I never owned or even wore a letterman jacket but I sure as heck feel like I had for the past year

Horses? 👀 I want to tell you about my horses!
My first horse is a black horse with a white spot on its forehead that I named Dusk.
Next is a tan horse I named Caramel.
Then I stole a blue and white spotted horse from a bokoblin and named it Cloud. Then I sold Cloud to that NPC in Gerudo Canyon.
After that, I got a pink horse with a white mane and named it Opal.
And finally, I caught Zelda's horse and named it Crystal.
AAAAWWWW those are adorable! They all feel like their names fit together. F Cloud you'll be remembered
