White Horse / Coney Island

Recap: Taylor sung a mashup of White Horse and Coney Island. She sang White Horse first then delved into Coney Island at the bridge which starts off:

I don’t have to tell you all this mashup is loaded with symbolism at a time when the discourse here, within the last 24-48 hours leading up to the show, has been rife with frustration and disappointment.

White Horse is sort of symbolic of a savior failing to swoop in and save the day because it’s too late. Look what she has said about the song in the past:

"It talks about falling in love and the fairy tales that you are going to have with this person, and then there is that moment where you realize that it is not going to happen. That moment is the most earth shattering moment…I'm coming to this realization that this is not a fairy tale at all -- this is real life."

And many of us have said we think Coney Island is an apology song written to Kaylors.

So my gut reaction to this mashup makes me feel like it’s some sort of apology for not being our savior right now.

I must admit I was very busy yesterday and am not totally caught up on my feed. I understand the frustration in general though. It’s maddening to receive hints for years that something will get better but it never does. And then you realize that the people sending the hints probably knew this but wanted to keep you hanging on for their benefit. Now we are flooded with new puzzles to solve but our ears are still ringing from the boy who cried wolf so many times before.

I get that things behind the scenes are probably tangled to a degree we don’t even realize. But it stinks to be played with. We spend our time on here with love in our hearts.

If I’m not totally delusional and this Sydney N1 mash up really is some sort of message to us, I appreciate Taylor using her platform to connect.

Bullying a woman in defense of a football player they’ll hate in like 3 weeks is ridiculous. Performative fandom at its finest because that article was an OPINION piece with receipts.

Case in point: Joe Alwyn was on a pedestal for 6 years and could do no wrong because he “saved” Taylor and was gifted a Grammy for his efforts as a musical prodigy that he apparently failed to disclose in his journey to becoming an industry titan and holding the title of next leading man the entire time.

Until he wasn’t. Now he’s a cheating, jobless loser who kept Taylor, whose whole theme of reputation was secrecy and a secret relationship locked in the basement of the house that she bought from money she made with songs she wrote from being bejeweled.

Weren’t they *just* telling Taylor they’d stay last year? Yet here they are, aghast and in an uproar because someone wrote an opinion piece in the NYT that Taylor could be queer.

Here’s the thing:

Before Speak Now TV was released, Taylor, knowing how Swifties have treated and continue to treat John Mayer, actually said she doesn’t need people defending her on the internet. She addressed them directly.

Yet, when she basically said she didn’t think her female relationships would be sensationalized or sexualized…as in by the same people who sensationalized/sexualized her male relationships (aka the media who were slut shaming her or insinuating every male she was seen with was someone she was dating) and they immediately took that to mean she ended kaylors and said she was straight.

Taylor Swift (possibly/allegedly) being queer isn’t going to stop them from buying “Suburban Legends” Subaru Remix or whatever 40 times. Lol so what does it matter what someone’s opinion piece says if it’s their opinion?

ok here are my very scrambled thoughts (remember this is just silly theorizing based on the lore taylor has given us)

maybe liz or zoë or someone else = Augustine

in my personal opinion, it’s very apparent in taylors songs that the love of her life was karlie, and in my own interpretation, taylor messed up and karlie left her.

all of betty taylor apologizes, proving she’s the one who messed up

and as we’ve seen taylor cant stop with the kaylor references on tour, fashion, lyrics, etc. if she had ended things I don’t think she’d be as hung up as she is. I know she has a hard time getting over things/people, but she really is in deep for karlie. Here is my theory I just came up with 5 minutes ago but in my opinion makes sense. disclaimer: im not an lsk i don’t really believe they are in contact but no shame to lsks! I love y’all and again nobody knows what the truth is but them so all love to everybody and I accept all theories🫶

here’s how I think things went

kaylor is dating and they plan their big coming out. circa 2019 lover era. I think she planned the coming out, her and karlie were excited (nervous, but ready to be free) and ready to spent the rest of their lives together (not in a marriedlor way, not yet. I think taylor wanted that regardless, but karlie only wanted it if they came out maybe.) i think karlie wanted a family/kids but clearly they couldn’t have that unless they came out.

I don’t think her and karlie were broken up when she was writing lover. The only song that I think really hints at that is dbatc which I just think Taylor got inspired like I don’t think it was based on current feelings.

maybe taylor got scared or the masters heist stopped it, idk, but coming out fails. I personally believe that taylor got scared because we know how important being liked is to her (I don’t wanna sound too invasive or parasocial 😭) but the sudden switch from colorful to black, the gay pride buildup just for nothing, and miss americana being a…political documentary.

I wouldn’t say this if This Is Me Trying didnt exist. And also:

Again, really don’t wanna get too invasive but I think she might’ve cheated on karlie, as maybe an act if self sabotage, a common theme in her music.

If we’re having a discussion about Swifties and anti-semitism, I want to I bring up how anti-Semitic a lot of the gaylor/kaylor discourse is. This is specific to the Kaylor theories. I want to preface this by saying that I don’t like Karlie Kloss or the Kushners, nor do I think they are good people and this opinion has nothing to do with Taylor Swift or the fact that they are Jewish and everything to do with the Trump association. That being said, it’s always made me really uncomfortable how so many gaylor/kaylors have created this narrative that Karlie Kloss was somehow forced to marry Josh Kushner as a beard. And the reason that Karlie and Taylor can’t be together is because the Kushners and Scooter Braun “conspired” to trap Karlie and keep them apart. This narrative claims that Scooter was holding Karlie hostage via her contract and has been forcing her to do things, like marry Josh, and Taylor tried and failed to “rescue” Karlie.

Almost the entire Kaylor narrative and rationale for why Taylor and Karlie aren’t publicly out right now rests on the idea that these awful Jewish men have conspired to trap this blonde haired Aryan woman and are tormenting another blonde haired Aryan woman. It’s absolutely disgusting and plays on so many anti-Semitic tropes. It’s always bothered me. And that’s before you even start poking holes and realizing none of this makes any sense. Karlie CHOSE to marry Josh and chose to convert to Judaism and raise her children in the Jewish faith.

This theory robs Karlie Kloss of her agency and portrays Taylor Swift as a victim and once again scapegoats Jewish people. Very few Swifties, even those that claim to be anti-gaylor, talk about this. It’s maddening and really disturbing.

I wanna make a note up front that it’s antisemitism, not anti-semitism, and it’s an important distinction. no harm done here or anything, I just want to let everyone know the proper spelling bc I see the hyphened version too much.

I’ve seen so much racism and antisemitism from kaylors. it’s truly a problem with them. supposedly the kushner karlie married isn’t closely associated with his family because he’s not republican and instead more liberal, but the running idea was that taylor stopped being friends with karlie because a lot of people would assume he was a Kushner and it would make Taylor look bad. however, if that’s true…i wanna know why taylor has no problem associating with and sleeping with horrible men. more misogyny I’m guessing. but I definitely agree with what you’ve said here. it’s despicable the way her fans talk about jewish people at all in her sphere and I’m getting tired of their ignorance. idk why but kaylors are particularly bigoted, which is weird considering they’re obsessed with making everyone gay.

I have some thoughts and I won't call it "a theory" or "analysis" lol, it's more like product of my obsession with Swift and kaylor combined with me being Greek mythology geek. Also idk if anyone mentioned it before so sorry If I'm late to the party.

So...I rewatched Anti Hero mv and now I have some new thought about this particular moment:

«Pierced through the heart but never killed»

You know who in Greek mythology pierce through the heart but never kills? Eros (Cupid) does. Ig it's already cool symbolism if we consider that moment of piercing with that arrow as falling in love and that love makes her bleed with this lavender thing (which is smth that a lot of ppl in gaylor fandom interpretate as her gayness or whatever). But then I remembered one of the most popular myths abt Eros which is legend abt Eros and Psyche (btw reference to this myth was used in last season of Killing Eve).

First interesting thing is that this myth in some way about secret love or rather love with some secrets. Cause Psyche for a long time didn't see Eros, didn't know who her lover was and they used to meet only at night. And all other ppl knew that Psyche had a lover but they also had no idea who is he.

Lets look up some more info abt myth.

Aphrodite (goddess of love and mother of Eros) was mad at Psyche cause she was incredibly beautiful and 'Dite ordered Eros to use his power(arrows) to make Psyche fall in love with horrible ugly creature. But when Eros saw Psyche «he himself felt his heart pierced by one of his own arrows» means he fell in love with her and ofc failed his mission.

Meanwhile Psyche was worried cause she never was in love with anyone and nobody was really in love with her. This situation stressed out her parents. So they asked Apollo for advice. «Apollo decreed that Psyche, dressed in black dress, should be brought to the summit of a mountain and stay there alone. The husband that was assigned to her, a winged serpent, terrible and more powerful than the gods themselves, would come up and take her for his wife». Ofc it was horrible fate but it's not like they could do smth. But when Psyche did as Apollo told her and was ready to accept her fate...

«While she was shaking and crying in the quiet night, a slight breeze reached her. It was the fresh wind of Zephyr, the mildest of the winds. He felt that she was being raised....She then woke up by the sound of clear stream and when she opened her eyes she faced an imposing and magnificent castle. It seemed destined to a god, with gold columns, silver walls and floors of inlaid precious stones». ( Bejeweled mv vibe maybe?). That's where she "met" Eros tho she didn't see him, but she heard him and understood that castle is her home now and the voice belongs to her lover aka the one she always wished for.

Psyche didn't know much abt him, met him only at night(it was Eros' conditions) and during day she was always alone so she asked to bring her sisters in the castle. Eros didn't like that idea cause he believed her sister will influence her in a bad way but he let her invite them anyway. Sisters were very jealous of what Psyche had (bad sisters bejeweled vibe again?) so they started to sabotage her thoughts abt her mysterious lover and made Psyche more curious abt who he was.

«Indeed, that night, when her husband fell asleep peacefully, she took courage and lit the candle....The light did not show a monster but the most beautiful of men....But while he was leaning on him, a drop of oil fell from the candle on the back of that handsome, young man. He woke up in pain and saw the light. He looked her at the eyes and, facing Psyche's distrust, he left their bedroom without uttering a single word. Psyche immediately ran after her husband. It was dark and she could not see him, but could hear his heartbroken voice: Love can not live without trust.»

Psyche understood that her lover was Eros himself but Eros felt hurt and betrayed. (The great war vibes?).

Psyche was desperate and went to Aphrodite to ask what to do. Aphrodite thought that Psyche wasn't a good match for Eros so, in order to prove her love for Eros, Psyche had to complete three impossible, even dangerous tasks. (The great war vibes again?). Btw one of the tasks was to separate «different small seeds of wheat, poppies, millets and many others».

Long story short, even when Psyche completed all tasks Aphrodite was mad at her and told that she(Psyche) will forever remaine her servant and won't be with Eros. But other gods decided to tell/show Eros what Psyche did to prove her love and he was touched by it, believed that Psyche truly loves him and actually never meant to betray him. So Eros decided to save Psyche: «He left his room and found Psyche exhausted in his mother's garden».

They had their happy ending. Actually it's one of the most beautiful and pure love stories in Greek mythology. And yeah for me this legend kinda vibes with some Taylor's songs but one question still remains.

Who is the archer (Eros) and who is the prey(Psyche?)?

I always interpreted evermore as a song about depression, I never linked it to Kaylor, can you tell me your view on this song?

dang i had a conversation about this with someone several months ago but i can’t find it. ill give you the abridged version. firstly, i think it can be about both! because the situation got depressing there for a hot minute!!

taylor said in an interview with zane lowe for apple music that she had written the song when the election was upon us and she didn't know what was going to happen. evermore the album was released in december 2020, which suggests that she wrote it pretty close to the release date, but also had time to reflect on what she knew to be true before releasing it— that trump wouldn’t win reelection. there’s a billboard article where she talks about the moment she learned biden won and i think it meshes really well with how evermore concludes thematically and emotionally.

when we think about the impact that trump being elected had on kaylor back in 2016–throwing a birthday party for lorde only days before the 2016 general election and wearing the vsfs angel wing ring in public for the first time, and that picture of them both kissing lorde on the cheek, going from that to at once enacting a love blackout and never being seen regularly in public again (the next time being rep tour 2018)— and on top of that, them going out of their way to separate themselves in the media via the creation of a “feud” during 2017 (swish swish, sushigate, etcetera) which pitted karlie with katy perry and kanye and cast her as someone for swifties to hate, guilty by association, we can imagine the weight and sadness of this chapter in their story. this is the start of the pain. this choice (i consider it a choice), to take the battle underground, sunk kaylor little by little into the world of the improbable for any casual observer. and it also put somewhat of a hex on karlie indefinitely, and for as brave of a soldier as she is, its an awful long while to be put in jail for something you didn’t do.

with these details as the background, i consider evermore to be a song chiefly about 2019 onward, though you might also position some of the date markers in the song within a sort of 2016/2017 focused timeframe. personally though i tend to think that 2019 events work just as well and operate under similar themes. for example, “hey november i’ve been down since july” could be in reference to the period of time where it became slowly more clear that the 2016 election results might not be a non-starter. or, it could reference the day after the masters sale (which was end of june 2019) and the theorized “failed coming out” that many expected her to do at the new york city pride parade that week. this followed by november, the conclusion of editing Miss Americana which would be released the following month (“motion capture put me in a bad light”) or alternatively november 2020, the point at which she is writing this song. there’s also an lsk theory that taylor and karlie were broken up from july to november 2019 but im not so versed in that so i’ll just keep it to a mention.

in any case, “hey december” can circle back to miss americana being released, not as a coming out documentary but as a “political coming out” documentary. hence the “can’t remember what i used to fight for.”

or it could be both, in a way. for example rewinding the tape but all it does is pause on the very moment all was lost could be both the rewinding of the miss americana documentary released in 2019, and/or perhaps conceptually the idea of the 2016 election night footage being rewound by everyone in the disbelief that occured the night that “all was lost”

because all was lost that night, in a way, no?

i tend to see justin vernon’s part as being a depiction of karlie after kaylor was exiled to a new level post the masters sale. i don’t mean this to say they were broken up. it’s just that they had to do a factory reset on a lot of the progress that had been made up until that point, and they would not be seen together (in order to accomplish some vigilante shit, is what i think anyway). back to justin vernon’s lines. it just reminded me deeply of all the hate karlie got that summer. and indeed, all the hate she had accrued until then. whether summer or winter, this feuding arc had put karlie in a position that i would argue was growing unbearable and incessant. “out on waves im being tossed, is there a line that i could just go cross?” referring to the latest wave of said hate. in this scenario, “can’t not think of all the cost and the things that would be lost oh can’t we just get a pause to be certain we’ll be tall again?” seems like karlie calling out to taylor, amidst the haze and confusion of the masters sale, think about everything that we would be giving up if you don’t come out right now. (think of me.). and then upon that line leading nowhere saying hey let’s pause before we hurt each other, to be certain we will make it through. here “tall again” reminds me of paper rings “standing here so tall”

so what of the ending? well, as a time marker i would once again refer to when the song was released, post-2020 election, where taylor saw that trump had lost and they would have a path forward. …covid-19 was yet to happen of course, and with that i think there were life priority shifts, but i just see evermore as a song that covers taylor and karlie seeing a light at the end of the tunnel that had been their love lockdown to love blackout to exile story. its a song that encompasses so much hope and i just really really really love it as a kaylor song because of the specificity with which you can tie it to their story, specifically a more contemporary chapter, the likes of which we hadn’t had too many songs depicting up until that point (basically just peace/hoax/the lakes).

so yeah that’s why it’s a kaylor song to me 🫶

This feels like a very clear message to the Kaylors. She just dropped a whole new album a few days ago with some very het sounding titles. I said earlier that I don’t think this will be a “coming out” album any more than any other. She’s out. We all know she’s out. It’s obvious to anyone willing to see it. To me personally, Dear Reader is her telling us to stop hoping and waiting for an undeniable coming out to the world. She’s done that and they don’t want to see it. You’re Losing Me is her message to them. Dear Reader is the message to us. Who are the readers? The ones who are paying attention to the LYRICS. Not the bearding. Not the stunting. Not the pap walks. The LYRICS.

In Dear Reader she’s telling us you guys, you’re right. You already know. But don’t look to me to lead this thing. I think she’s made it so fucking obvious and they just refuse to see it. She’s done. This PR thing with Travis has been so over the top. How can anyone in their right mind think this shit is legit. But they do. And she’s done trying to win them. She’s just going to make her art and let those who are actually reading hold the truth.

So playing Dear Reader right after those track titles drop is a reminder to us. This is who I am, this is how it is. It will always be coded.
