as a jewish person myself i'm sure people will call me a bad jewish person for saying this but i struggle to wrap my head around how zach could be seen as positively supporting the jewish community with that tweet he sent. it in no way shape or form mentioned kayne west and it also derailed the issue of antisemitism kayne is expressing into we should make fun of this third party who responded to kayne (even if he didn't read it as sarcasm) harder

I got blocked by tons of people last night for pointing out Zach brought antisemitism into the conversation and even if Kayne had previously spoke on it it doesn’t mean it was relevant then?? No one brought up Kayne’s Black Lives Matter is fake bullshit because it was not relevant.

Zach was just trying to save his ass for the fact that he he made a cheap shot at Dream that didn’t go over well. And in turn allowed a lot of goyim to enter a discussion where they were not needed nor welcome to tell me what is and is not antisemitism

I remember when it started. Kanye West appeared on TMZ live years ago with a Black rightwing political commentator. He said that he liked that she was a “free thinker”. This commentator in particular had boisterous critiques of the Democratic party. She argued that the party uses Black people for political gain. Kanye seemed moved by the boring and accurate claim. But the tragedy is that he accepted her conclusion: that Black people should embrace openly racist Republicans instead.

I had not thought of their budding friendship until last week. The pair reappeared at Paris Fashion Week wearing contrasting long-sleeve “White Lives Matter” shirts. Backlash ensued, to which Kanye responded with defense, jest, appreciation, online bullying against fashion editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, and now, antisemitism.

But maybe the TMZ moment was not when it started. Kanye’s political changes happen in ticks on made-up timelines that friends argue over until their faces frown and voices go hoarse. I’ve heard it all. Hurricane Katrina and George Bush hate Black people. He changed after his momma died. Remember when he said slavery was a choice? Why did he support Trump? He’s a Gemini! It’s his bipolar, he can’t help it. Now why he marry that girl? I’ve only witnessed white people suggest it started when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for MTV best music video award and re-award it to Beyoncé for the Single Ladies video (to which surrounding Black people become suspiciously quiet in the conversation).

What makes Ye’s antics and devolving viewpoints so appalling is not simply that he has them, nor that he shares them loudly. Instead, it is that he collapses pieces of real information all around us while lacking discernment about how to use the truth he conjures.

Like President Trump, Ye professes attraction to people who tell it like it is and appeals to people precisely because he does not filter himself. Sometimes there’s a magical alignment with the truth: did Beyoncé have the greatest music video of all times? Probably. Did he need to share that during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech? No. Well, probably, I don’t know, this is not a good example. His condemnation of President Bush in the wake of Black people drowning in preventable floods is a better one.

Most of the time, Ye’s magic is muddied with earnest yet misguided projections of the state of Black people. I once filled with pride playing Murder to Excellence and nodded along that “Black-on-Black crime” was plaguing our neighborhoods. Kanye understood the premise. But he lost the plot with the conclusion that suggests violence is solvable through the goodwill of ghetto residents and by increasing Black spending power. Is it true that community-based violence is a problem? Yes. But we eventually learn that ghettos and community-based violence are creatures of racial capitalism that must be eradicated.

On Never Let Me Down, Kayne invokes his mother’s lunch counter sit-in demonstration and urges Black people to be ready for leadership because racism is alive and hidden, though he’s doubtful it will happen because of community violence and the desire for material wealth. The same sentiments emerge on All Falls Down, where Ye’s story tells how Black people spend money to offset insecurities about their status, while poking fun at himself for performing the same behaviors.

What Kanye offered in his early music were bits and pieces of commentary that anyone can catch at Black barbecues, barbershops and beauty salons. Conservative, perhaps, but through a sincere or performative desire for analysis, Black nationalism or self-improvement. But he kept going. He went from discussing the indignities that low-wage retail workers face (insults, exploitation, racism, tokenism) and celebrating the subtle ways that workers get back (taking long breaks, thefts, fighting management) on Spaceship, to claiming that all of the Porsches in his garage are proof of God’s favor upon him.

The Venn diagram overlap between Ye’s lyrics and conservative talking points only grew larger with the years. And alongside the debates over his health, spectacles and tragedies, we must take into consideration that he became a billionaire.

Ye acquired more wealth and went further right. He forfeited the nuance in the complex lives we live and lusted for the status of rich white men. In his recent Tucker Carlson interview, the billionaire rapper affirmed President Donald Trump because “his name is on buildings”. Now, Trump is no stranger to hip-hop. From Nas to my hometown star Nelly, rappers have caricatured Trump as a face of wealth. But for Ye, Trump’s combination of wealth and self-aggrandizement was power within reach. Kanye even ran for president. As poet Saul Williams explains, “Rappers have been praising Trump for over a decade and ignoring real heroes. Americans have been excited about those who make money without thinking about the exploitation that may be involved with that money for ages.”

The problem is, Kanye behaves as if the only real and brave truth tellers today are conservatives with money. He acts as if the rich right wing holds a monopoly on criticisms of the Democratic party or liberal activists. This ignores a host of progressives and radicals – people like Cornel West, Nick Estes, Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, Mariame Kaba, Aja Monet, the Rev Jeremiah Wright, and too many artists and grassroots organizers to name who criticise the liberal establishment more fiercely than the right and with commitments to end oppression. In fact, entire progressive and radical traditions exist where people of all races offer vigorous critiques of the status quo with surgical precision. We need fewer “free thinkers” and more critical thinkers who ask about these traditions and find their places within them.

The question for me is whether billionaire Kanye can ever really know about these robust traditions. Not because he doesn’t already know or will never learn about them, but because to know them is to also learn their critiques of gross wealth accumulation, Black capitalism, desire for imperial leadership, and so much more of what Kanye currently represents. Supporting free thinkers with weak conservative analysis does not threaten his status, land, antisemitic views or bank account.

But for what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

2). Sofa and Dodo just having dance-offs where Dodo puts too much effort in and ends up just dancing a random dance and not even hitting the right buttons while Sofa is expertly dancing and hitting every button perfectly every time.

3). Pft, what a bunch of losers /j. I can see Noa being a DM and he regrets it almost immediately as he now has like 3 murder hobos in his campaign.

4). I like the idea that Neon switches but is big spoon most often. Or at least he wants to be, it can't be comfortable to sleep on a metal arm wrapped around you. But same thing with being little spoon, it would be difficult with his head and body. Not to mention DJ is probably not the most touchy person, and even though Mama likes spooning, it is difficult with Neon's metal body.

They try to use blankets or something to soften the metal, but it just leads to Neon getting overheated and very paranoid/feeling trapped. Which is another thing that probably stops him from being little spoon a lot.

Like I LOVE the idea, but unfortunately it has to be a conscious and awake cuddle session for spooning to work, otherwise if any of them try to sleep/nap, it will just end up bad for someone. But Neon switching a lot and being little spoon every so often is a very nice thought that I love1

5). Hmmmm, not how I see them. I like Mama as a flowey, pastel colored skirts and dresses kind of girl. And Mayday I could see going through a goth phase more than a preppy girl phase.

HOWEVER. Mayday trying to fit in and make friends so she pretends to be a preppy cheerleader kind of girl is something I see happening. It didn't make her happy but it got her some friends (who were fake but at least she wasn't alone).

For Mama, I can see her always wanting to try gothic lolita fashion (and for those who don't know lolita is a legit fashion and is different from lolis or lolicons) as it is super pretty and cute, but never having enough money for it growing up and then feeling too old to ever try it once she was an adult. I can see her finally getting to live her dream one day for a Halloween party where she dresses up in lolita fashion (and then does so more regularly every so often for fun).

As for Neon, yeah. I can see him going through a phase like that for fun. Especially if he and Martha were dressing up together. He hasn't dressed up like that for a while until Carna wanted to be a kind of Victorian noble person for Halloween one year which sparked Neon to try and wear more outfits like that at times. Especially if Carna was also dressing up to go out so fea wasn't alone in looking dapper.

6). I'm so sorry but "just dance and chill" made me think of netflix and chill lol! Those two would not be doing THAT hahah. But no, I can see them dancing together for exercise and to just bond.

7). Okay, at first I'm thinking they made a makeshift bomb (by accident, they were not thinking), but you said it's not what I think so hmm..... I can't think of anything other than taping a bunch of mentos into a duct tape ball.

8). Don't know much about ENA, but sure, I can see Dodo liking that media. Maybe even showing Eve since they both have split color designs or something like that.

9). Don't know if Maragold would like Samurai Jack all that much. Not because it was bad, but because Maragold wouldn't really be interested all that much. They would watch it with Yinu to be nice at least, and honestly I actually don't think Maragold would like the robot violence that much too. Carna would love the violence in the show but think some scenes are too slow and get bored with it too (I have seen very little Samurai Jack and it's been years so yeah, memory might be bad).

10). Also don't know anything about Eric Andre, so uh, yeah. I can see Zuke wanting to be a show host one day though! That seems like something Zuke would want to do at some point, but ended up growing out of that dream later down the line.

I’m completely appalled and disgusted right now. And this is for all you fucking bitches who love to talk shit on Taylor, you fucking know who you are. You love to belittle her, and use the fucking Kanye situation to prove your hatred. In the last hour, the real phone call between Taylor and Kayne got leaked. She said she NEVER knew Kanye was going to say “I made that bitch famous”, he told her about “I feel like Taylor Swift might owe me sex” and that’s where he finished the conversation. She said she was fine with that lyric bc that’s how rapers talk. Kim recorded that phone call because she KNEW Taylor would be upset over it, and PURPOSELY edited that part of the call out when she released the phone call videos (which was ILLEGAL). Taylor Swift has broken more records than a majority of artists. In the past decade she’s had the most successful career, and has won more awards than any other artist (at least I believe so). Y’all love to tear down her Grammy speech about people taking credit for your success, and y’all called her a liar. She didn’t call out the line “I think Taylor Swift might owe me sex” once, she ONLY ever called out the line of him claiming her fame. Women work their asses off and men still assume they own it. - she heavily promoted the equality act, and her petition reached over 500,000 supporters. She has on multiple occasions publicly supported the bill and equality for the LGBTQA+ community.

- she’s publicly criticized women who don’t support women, specifically Marsha Blackburn.

- she’s shared her belief of systematic racism and the unfair legal system towards POC, and police brutality.

- she was sexually assaulted and won the case, but y’all still trivialize what she went through, when you wouldn’t do the same if it was another woman.

- she paid $250,000 to kesha’s legal fees with her trial against dr.luke. She also paid ALL of what dr.luke sued her for.

- she’s publicly spoken about her privilege during her sexual assault trial and how she was ‘lucky’ enough to have multiple witnesses and photos that proved it. She said her hearts break for the people who didn’t have that. For the people who never came forward because they were scared and feared they wouldn’t be believed, and that’s why it took me years to come forward.

- she’s donated at minimum $1,000,000 to LGBTQA+ charities.

- she got Apple Music to change their platform to ensure other artists got paid, even though it did not effect her.

- GoFundMe changed their policy due to her large donations.

- she’s donated countless amounts of money to schools.

- she’s an activist for a woman’s right to choose

- she publicly apologized to Nicki after she misunderstood that Nicki was talking about racism, and not attacking other women. Nicki publicly defended her after that.

- she wrote a song dedicated to Kayne after the VMA incident saying she forgives him.

- she’s been an activist against slut shaming.

- she choose to speak out against trump despite a room full of MEN telling her not to.

- she finally opened up about her eating disorder, which for me and other survivors of them, was empowering, and gave hope to those still suffering.

- she’s spent the past 2 years publicly sharing her defense with minority groups in America, while also recognizing her privilege, knowing that she isn’t a part of most of them.

- when Hayley Kiyoko used Taylor’s heterosexual privilege as an example against her homophobic experiences, Taylor publicly defended her and admitted that Hayley was being attacked due to her sexuality, and the two have since become best friends.

- Taylor wrote a whole entire song about supporting the LGBTQA+ community, and EVERY person in that video was apart of that community, yes, including trans people and people of color. But y’all would be rejoicing if literally any other artist did that.

- Taylor has spent millions upon millions of dollars for charitable causes.

But yeah, keep telling me how her amazing activism now won’t ever trump her previous ignorance.

I suggest all of you to watch her Netflix documentary, maybe y’all become a little less sexist.

Starring Role

Summary: in a new spy thriller, you’re paired with none other than Chris Evans for your first movie.

Pairing: Chris Evans x Famous!Reader

A/n: trying that bullet point fic. might do another. I’ll take requests.

It’s your first big movie with a maturer role than what you’ve done in the past.

You’re known for your music and being one of Disney’s famed stars.

Also, your dad is Steven Tyler. —You were an affair baby but that didn’t seem to affect your dad’s love for you.

Anyways, Chris is just fresh off of closing the book of his role of Captain America.

You both get paired to lead the movie.

He plays an ex Navy SEAL trying to find the dictator who killed his whole team leaving him as the only member left.

You play an American spy who’s trying to stop him and in the end help him get his revenge. The two of you also help overthrow a government.

He doesn’t know that you’re his costar until he meets you on set.

Your first scene ever together is you pushing him into one of the canals in Venice.

The water wasn’t warm at all. But he was a good sport.

However, he did push you in after you did a bit of teasing and you took him down with you.

The director wasn’t too happy about that. Along with the costumers.

Bunch of teasing happens onset.

Chris happily gives you some tips and tricks since it’s been so long since you’ve acted.

He’s got a good 11 years on you making you 25 when he’s 36 (it’s like 2018).

Both of you being so comfortable with each other even when doing a very steamy scene together.

Taking naps together between takes.

He’ll literally sleep on top of you with his head on your chest. (And you have to play with his hair or he whines)

Sharing your music with him that has yet to be released.

Your ex starts spreading rumors about you even though he cheated on you with your best friend ex best friend.

Chris comforts you when it all gets too much.

You do the same especially when he has a panic attack on set.

He spoils you with the little things. Nothing expensive. Flowers, candy, etc. things that the average Joe can do for his partner even if nobody has taken the steps to go on an official date

The Met Gala happens and you bring Mr. Christopher Robert Evans as your date but you two are “just friends”.

He’s panicking since it’s the Met Gala.

You calm him down easily and he has a lot of fun at the event.

He manages to befriend Kayne West and Kris Jenner. (You still don’t know how it happened)

You both head to the after parties and get blacked out drunk.

You wake up in his arms in Rihanna’s bathtub fully clothed. She found it to be hilarious and sent you the photos.

You both go back to Italy soon after and finish filming the last few scenes.

You end up texting, calling, and FaceTiming each other when filming is finished.

You go off and tour for the summer while he starts on another project. He does try and join you for some of the shows.

You send his mother a big arrangement of flowers on Mother’s Day pretty much upstaging her own kids. You also send Carly, Chris’ sister, flowers as well even though you have yet to meet her.

Chris sees you again at NYFW. You join him for dinner along with some of his Marvel buddies like Sebastian Stan, RDJ, and Scarlett Johansson. They easily love you.

He’s the one to drive you to the airport and the paparazzi get your goodbyes. And they got the sweet cheek kiss he gave you.

You’re SWOOOOOOOOONIN’ for this man.

You see him again for New Years Eve in LA at Kris Jenner’s party with all the hottest celebrities. It was a rager and you two shared a kiss which was documented by Kendall, a good friend, and ended up on her story.

You ended up in a bathtub with Chris again.

Fully clothed.

Kris, of course, takes care of the two of you and sends you both back to Chris’ place where Dodger waits for his owner.

You immediately fall in love with the pooch and spoil him rotten during your brief stay.

Chris and you start the press tour for the movie. You both have an enjoyable time together.

An interviewer hits you where it hurts and Chris immediately stands up for you.

You both end up leaving the room after Chris tears him a new one.

You both hang out in his hotel room and order pizza. He definitely makes you feel better and you calm him down from his anger.

He meets your dad at the premiere and he obviously fangirls but he nearly faints seeing you in your dress. Scott has to keep him steady.

The after party is wild with some of his former cast members in the MCU joining.

Chris and you end up in your own bathtub fully clothed.

Chris is like, “it happened again!”

He also asks you out. Finally.

You say yes. Duh.

He sets up a candlelight dinner in his big jacuzzi tub.

“We always end up in a tub! Let’s just skip some steps and head straight here!”

You die laughing but it’s the most romantic thing anyone has done for you.

You release a song about him.

On the anniversary of the two of you waking up in your first bathtub together, he proposes to you in your New York apartment bathroom that he decorated with candles and roses and the petals. A bubble bath is ready as well.

You say yes.

You also tell him that you’re pregnant when he tries giving you the champagne.

He cries. Especially when you show him the ultrasound photo.

He’s very thankful that you both got the starring role in the movie.

I love Taylor and Louis so much. I was reading Taylor's tweets to fans on twitter and I was just thinking about how similar they are and how they both care about their fans. When both of them reply to fans on twitter they put some thought and effort into their replies rather than standard robot replies like most artists do, or their social media teams. They do easter eggs for fans leading up to their music releases and they do listening parties so fans can hear new music. They hug and pose with fans in photographs and look happy doing it. Most artists look like they want to escape. There are many photos of Taylor picking up fans and messing around with them. Louis said that he got the idea to do listening parties from Taylor. He praised her songwriting and how she treats fans. They're really similar. Louis seems to hate most big artists because they have big egos and they forget who made them famous and rich in the first place but he is a fan of Taylor. That says a lot. I was thinking too about the 2016? hate train against Taylor because of the Kayne West thing. During that time when Taylor was getting a lot of abuse from people Justin Bieber posted on instagram a photo taken from a video call which showed Scooter and Kayne laughing, with someone else. It really stoked the fire because people started spamming 'What up Taylor Swift' everywhere. Scooter was Kayne's manager until Kayne fired him in 2018? but they remained good friends. Scooter always talks positively about Kayne, and Kayne said last year that he is still good friends with Scooter. Justin seems good friends with Kayne too. Before lockdown they were rumored to be doing a song together. Every few months there were photos of them together. It makes me wonder how much was Scooter involved in the Kayne drama. The photo of Scooter and Kayne laughing in the photo that Justin posted suggests to me that they found the whole thing funny... Taylor being bullied. It feels like they planned the whole thing together. Maybe Kayne suggested it and Scooter encouraged him.

What Kanye and Scooter Braun did to Taylor (separately and together) was disgusting.

Yet they are still successful and well-regarded in the industry. Their fans diss Taylor the same way that Harries and Larries support Harry over Louis.

I don’t think “justice” is ever going to come for Harry, just like justice won’t be served to Kanye or to Scooter. That’s Hollywood, unfortunately.

It’s unconscionable how the media and Larries made Harry palatable— media by moneyed propaganda, and Larries by using Louis.

What did they accomplish?

Larries didn’t support any relationship.

They didn’t right any wrongs.

They didn’t move the needle for LGBT artists.

They didn’t use their power of the purse to change anything.

They supported Harry Styles, Sony Music, and Jeff Azoff.

The damage has been done to Louis, and nothing can undo it. His reputation has been trashed. His songs have been shelved. Even if everything goes perfectly for him from now on, he’s digging out of a deep hole— a disgusting, unambitious, “supportive” fabrication that Larries helped Sony create for him. Louis is trapped in this narrative and it’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.

Louis doesn’t have Taylor’s audience or power; he will never have the opportunity to say his truth to the media.

Larries and Harry have won. Larries wanted Harry to succeed, they helped him, they did it.

And regardless of what the truth is, or whether Harry gives a shit about his fans or Louis or Larries, Harry is enjoying the fruits of Larries’ cult.

Hey everyone! My name is Kassidy Steyer (everyone knows me by Kas) and I have a passion for capturing the perfect picture of epic eats. You can catch me running between spin class, grabbing a matcha latte, shopping at Whole Foods, or strolling through the farmers market with my mom.

I am studying marketing and communications at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. I will be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in May 2019. College has taught me the importance of balance, positive thoughts, self-care, exercise, and fueling my body. My goal is to be transparent by showing both sides of wellness. While I love me some avocado toast and going for a hike, letting loose on thirsty Thursday and devouring burgers and fries (every once in a while) with friends is part of that balance.

You are probably wondering, “What does Vita Benedetta mean?” From Italian, translated to English, Vita Benedetta stands for blessed life. I come from an awesomely large Italian family—my mom has seven brothers and they all grew up in a two-bedroom house downtown Madison, WI. Growing up with 8 dads has been pretty rad to say the least, and for that I am blessed. As you will see, and I will reiterate, this theme is present throughout all aspects of my life. 

Inspiration 

My inspiration for this blog primarily came from my experiences in college. College, the best four years of your life: supposedly. For me college has been a challenge. A challenge to find balance. Balance between social norm expectations and what I wanted for myself. Balance between mindless fun and exhaustion. Balance between fitting in and standing out. Finding myself was a challenge. 

La Crosse—a city with more taverns per capita than any other U.S city of its size. A city where if a friend states he/she is going to the library, you can assume that person is referring to the bar. Many weekends went like this. I would watch the lights flicker off as a sign of bar close, take the “drunk bus” home at 2:30 a.m., and crawl into bed after eating a triple order of Topperstix. Mornings I would wake to the scent of a Howie’s deep fried burger and fries creeping through my window, faced with a full night of hung-over studying, notorious as the Sunday Scaries. Purely exhausted. 

Undeniably my self-esteem began to dwindle. College presented me with millions of others girls: prettier than me, taller than me, with a whiter smile than me, and much less flab where a girl doesn’t want flab. These girls portrayed their lives as if they were out of a Legally Blonde movie, attending frat parties on the weekends, and posing in pictures eating Big Macs, yet still somehow maintaining flawless figures. 

Deciding to focus on my education and health, I stood out. Contrary to what many people believe this came with consequences. In our binge drinking obsessed culture, deciding not to engage alienated me. I lost the majority of my friends, only later to notice that these relationships were solely characterized by weekends and drinking, and had no substance or depth. The hard part: finding new friends as a junior in college. Friend groups were already tightly formed. Without parties or bars to make friends, this left class, the library, and the gym, all places where college students want to get in and get out as fast as they can.   

Thanks to social media, I found a community where I belonged, where I could engage and contribute. Wonderful humans such as @shutthekaleup and @thetruespoon have shown me what it feels like to: get a good night sleep, eat whole real food (none of that toxic processed ish), and spend time with people who support me. These women portray real lives of self-care, exercise, health, balance, and emphasize fueling your body. I follow their lives for inspiration on: recipes, skin care, athleisure companies, and mainly inspiration to lead my own life—disinterested in comparing myself to others. I finally found the importance behind talking about wellness, and I gained hella confidence along the way. 

Present Over Perfect 

As I began my wellness journey I stumbled across the issue of perfectionism. Did I use the correct Valencia filter for that picture? Did the editor app take away the coffee stains on my teeth? Should I spend a couple more days trying to come up with a more creative Instagram caption? To be completely honest, sometimes I would take so long to capture the most epically epic picture of my food that my meal would be cold to a crisp by the time I ate it (whoops). Yeah I know what you are thinking, this girl is crazy! It was hard to put down my phone. 

It is OKAY not take yourself so seriously. Live in the moment. Put down your phone and go for a hike. Have a meaningful conversation with someone you love. Your phone will still be there. Three things have significantly helped me become more present and aware in my life. 

Morning and Bedtime Social Media Detox 

How many of you are guilty of the a.m. mindless social media scroll? What about scrolling until your eyes can barely take it anymore before hitting the hay? This was my worst habit. When the first and last things you are seeing everyday are other people and perfection, it is hard not to compare and get caught up in everything other than yourself. Instead, try getting up and doing something else for the first part of your day. Go for a walk, read a book, make a smoothie, DO YOU. At bedtime think about your day and what went well. Positive thoughts go a long way to becoming more present. 

Setting Intentions 

How many of you say you are going to do something and days later completely forget about it? Like on January 1st when you got a gym membership and never went back. You are not alone. Writing down intentions is important! This way you can hold yourself accountable. Intentions can be what you read in the morning or at night instead of scrolling on social media. You are able to go back to see whether or not you are achieving them and what you would like to change/adjust. I will leave my intentions below to get you all thinking.

♥ Spend fifteen minutes a day without Internet connection 

♥ Do your best everyday. Kick a** & do not give up 

♥ Eat mindfully. Nourish your body 

♥ Reflect on the three best parts of each day 

♥ Give back 

♥ Spend more time with family members 

♥ Love fearlessly 

Self-Care 

Because we all need a little me time to be selfish. Taking time for you can seem like a guilty pleasure, but it shouldn’t. As a college student juggling classwork, student organizations, two jobs, and a long-distance relationship, while still squeezing in time to work out, sleep, eat healthy, and umm have a life is tiring to say the least. It is important to honor your body. Know when enough is enough. Know when to call it for the night, even if it means saying no to margs with your girlfriends. For me, this means choosing to walk to the farmers market on a Saturday morning instead of going out to darty. It means being in bed by 10 p.m. on weeknights to make it to my early a.m. spin class. Balance looks different to everyone; however, when the going gets tough (and it will) here are a couple of things that make me feel superbly selfish:

You will look silly, it will take time, but you will feel better. Finding balance throughout all aspects of my life has been my challenge. I am starting to realize that every day is a new opportunity to better myself. I cannot stress enough how much better I feel now that I have started to take care of myself. I sleep better, I have more energy, and I am more positive. Positive thoughts are powerful. Your mind is powerful. Begin. Start. Take on one small change at a time. Netflix’s bigger budget was immediately apparent, as they shot primarily on location in Guam, with some auxiliary filming done in Canada. Plus, it was made in 2019, so no COVID protocols to worry about, meaning no weirdly empty rooms, or oddly distanced shots to take you out of the story.

As soon as my son saw the CGI geko he was like, “I bet that one thing cost more than an entire Hallmark movie,” and, while that's not literally true (it was not that great of CGI), the extra budget definitely lent a sheen that most made-for-TV movies can only dream of.

Kat Graham is always delightful, Alexander Ludwig had a certain slightly goofy charm, and they had decent chemistry with one another. But the problem here is that, despite the absolutely gorgeous scenery and real-life story behind the movie’s centerpiece, this was oddly slowly paced for a light and fluffy holiday film. 

Do wonder how much that had to do with its TV-G rating, a far cry from Netflix's first holiday entry of the season, the TV-MA Holidate. Feel like there's probably a happy medium, where you can make a family-friendly, feel-good holiday romance with just a little more spice than we saw here. Instead, Drop was as bland and unrealistic as every Hallmark movie, when it comes to falling in love. First, she “hates” him on sight, simply for wearing a Santa hat in one photo she sees, then they plan an event together and, without ever touching, boom, they're now in love.

Not to mention the nonsensical central premise, what with Guam being one of the most strategic U.S. military outposts [extremely Kayne West voice] OF ALL TIME. The idea Anderson Air Force Base, which I'm pretty sure goes unnamed in the movie, would be up for closure, is absolutely bonkers. Also, Operation Christmas Drop is a real, annual event (actual drop pictured below), and humanitarian and goodwill efforts are absolutely part of the U.S. mission in the region, along with Guam’s unquestionably vital strategic location for the Pacific Air Forces. 

All things you'd think Virginia Madsen’s faux congresswoman would know. Either that, or playing a member of congress as confused, cruel and ineffectual might just be Madsen's most realistic performance yet. Time for her next Oscar nom! 

But, seriously, it’s not that hard to think up a more logical story centering the actual Operation Christmas Drop, using the same general outline—Off the top of my head: Madsen could send Graham to Guam because she wants her to organize a photo op with the drop as an electoral boost, but Ludwig doesn’t want his pet project used as a political prop, and Graham has to learn the true meaning of giving—so I’m confused why they went with a base closure that simply wouldn’t happen. Also, no, congress does not announce base closures at Christmas…For obvious reasons.

But, instead, Graham is Congresswoman Madsen’s harried assistant, sent to investigate why helping people is a waste of taxpayer dollars, in pursuit of that trope-iest of tropes “the big promotion.” While Ludwig is…tall. That's all I really got from the guy who, according to IMDb, is best known for his role on Vikings, a series I was not aware existed, but that has apparently been on for six years (the more you know).

Anyway, Ludwig basically just walked around being slightly goofy while towering over everyone, including Graham. And, by everyone, I do mean, everyone. What's going on with this guy? Is he nine-feet tall? Is the rest of this cast particularly wee? Is this some strange Hobbit spin off I'm not understanding? Because Guam is like a nine-hour flight from New Zealand, so Tolkien would have some travel explaining to do.

Google tells me Ludwig is 6-2 which, while far from tiny, doesn't completely explain why he so looms over every single one of his cast mates, unless everyone else in this film happens to be 4-10. Seriously, Ludwig is literally head and shoulders taller than every person he shares a scene with.

And, for all the extra budget this obviously had, some of it still looked laughably cheap. During the actual drop itself, where it was painfully clear Graham was nowhere near an actual open, military cargo plane (for obvious reasons), the scenes cutting between her face and footage of actual aerial drops were almost painful in their disconnect. Didn’t help that, that bit went on for a while, too.

The vaunted Christmas typhoon was a real dud. Basically, some slightly bigger than normal waves and a long shot of a palm tree in either actual rain, or a wind machine and sprinkler. Apparently, it was one of those typhoons that grounds military bombers, but commercial tourist flights are coming and going just fine—since Graham was supposed to have been on one. Always good to hear American Air is better equipped than the U.S. Air Force. Definitely the message our Armed Forces, who allowed access for this film, were hoping to convey.

That Graham says she brought Ludwig's farm family to Guam for Christmas, but we don’t actually see them, clearly because they didn’t want to fly those Canadian actors we'd been seeing via Skype to Guam, is kind of the chef’s kiss of so-much-more-money-than-Hallmark, but still not "real movie" money. Also a clear indicator they blew their budget on those snorkeling scenes. (Back to height…Is Graham standing in a hole the entire movie, or is Ludwig a giant? Someone please help me understand these height dynamics!)

Quibbles aside, all the gorgeous island scenery and that lengthy snorkeling scene paid off. Along with the beachside Christmas party with coconut flake snow—Yeah, it all worked for me. Maybe just because, in 2020, don’t we all need a vacation? 

Netflix also sprung for real, name-brand Christmas music (congrats on the check, Colbie Caillat), and actual military families and Guam local figures got to be extras or have small roles so, overall, it left me with a smile even if I would have liked a little bit more romance, or a slightly more plausible storyline.

I am posting this video as a reminder of who you were. Were. Not are. Or are you still the buffoon that is in this video? It’s obvious why you put out a video like this during the campaign. All major theme parks cancelled their fall events this year.

Oh, and the realitycheck of it all – Covid-19 numbers are up. So is the death rate. Not so fun fact: death rates affect your voters, regardless if it’s your base or not. Just sayin’.

Now is the time to stop being a Donald Trump twin and actually start to lead. Listen to health experts, for one.

I know at this point, might be too late to roll back the reopening phases. But it’s never too late to mandate masks. I know, I know. The whitey-righty-tighty’s are just going to love that. They will throw tantrums, spit, swear, maybe even whip out a knife or gun because they feel their freedoms are being infringed. Afterall, this is the same America (with the same kind, considerate, empathetic group of people) that were hoarding toilet paper in their stockpile just five months ago. But, I don’t know, if you, perhaps, possibly, maybe, lead by example – your loyal subjects, ahem, voters, will get behind you.  

But – if DeathSantis has a nice ring to your legacy…continue talking out of your ass and ignoring the problem. That was what the current President was doing for a while. The realitycheck was too much for him to ignore.

I have no opinion about school's opening up now (or in the fall). I am not a teacher. And I don't have kids (at this point, I am thankful - sorry, not sorry).

But between the Trump wannabe running Florida that proclaims that if Walmart/restaurants are open, schools should be too (and like Trump, ignoring the Covid-19 numbers) & leaving out the fact that Walmart/restaurants have adjusted their operations/hours/or even closed up if Covid-19 affects their/guests well-being; and the politicians (on either side of the fence) that don't shed tears anytime a mass school shooting occurs, but demands schools to be open right this millisecond during an world-wide outbreak - that is a grim reality one has to serious think about, friends.

I would leave it to the health experts to argue whether it's too soon or wait a bit.

Donald Trump is 1/100% right about one thing. School is important. You don't want to become President someday and be unable to speak or spell coherently.

Kids around the world - don't be like the current President of the United Shates. Eat your vegetables. Don't pay someone to do your homework. Also, don't pay hookers to keep their mouth shut. Also, don't participate in locker room talk if you are being recorded (or not being recorded - just don't do it). Also, don't be a racist. The year is 2021. After Joe Biden wins the 2020 election, and Donald Trump's reluctance to leave the White House – only leaving when he was told by Sean Hannity that he needs to leave, because, you know, that’s the law, and Donald Trump only listens to Sean Hannity for Presidential advice – Sleepy Grandpa Joe is sworn in.

Just before he finishes being sworn in, Kayne West shows up, interrupts the inauguration, and says:

“Yo Joe, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Trump was one of the best Presidents of all time. One of the best Presidents of all time! My tacky red #MAGA hat makes me feel like Superman. Seriously, I don't have much of an opinion of the matter. Though I am currently residing in central Florida, I grew up in the north - in which, from my recollection, won the civil war. I never understood the appeal/romanticizing of a flag that represented America's low-point in history. Then again, I never understood why there is still a group of people that quotes the bible in the same breath they will shout, 'Jews will not replace us.'

We, as humans, evolve (contrary to some that proclaim evolution does not exist), we keep learning. What we thought was acceptable yesterday is not acceptable today. And what is acceptable today, will not be acceptable tomorrow. That is not liberal-speak, that is fact. Just study history (also, contrary to belief - history is not being erased, for books still exist). And books (literature) of yesteryear often has a foreword or afterword, with added context/intent to explain the times in which the book was written in.

A man in a white robe, sandals, and long hair walks down 16th Street. This man is dark skin, Middle Eastern, a Jew, and believes in ‘love your enemy, love your neighbor.’ The whites would see him as a threat, just by the look of him – and demand for him to be locked up, taken away, shipped out of the country. The President would label him a terrorist in a Tweet. And yet – he is the symbol of everyone that misinterprets his teachings.

Scholars would debate he even existed. Whether he existed or not, the Son of God’s complete persona has been cherry-picked to fit a person’s agenda (political or otherwise – even though, according to religious people – faith can’t be politicized, even though, it is since the dawn of religion). The hypocrisy of faith being good grows generation to generation as people rationalize evil ‘in the name of God.’ The sad, long history of genocide, rape, misogyny, racism, pedophilia is often associated with a religious fanatic, twisting words of so-called ‘faith’ into propaganda. This is nothing new. And yet, it keeps happening.

Now, imagine if you will - Jesus magically appears (poof) – as the prophecy proclaims. He doesn’t descend from the sky, but instead, walks down 16th street or Main Street or any street in this country. He is dark skin, Middle Eastern, a Jew, and believes in ‘love your enemy, love your neighbor.’ Given the prejudice that already exists in regards to skin color – do you really think the country that loves to throw ‘God and America’ on the same Made in China baseball hat, would be open arms to Jesus? They might be open to bare arms, but I don’t think they would be welcoming.

I don’t mean to offend anyone - yet, I am utterly confused why, after all this time (and years and decades and centuries), the conservative side of the fence prides itself having faith and Jesus on their side, when the very things they are against (or for) are anti-Jesus.

Of course, that is the perception of an Atheist (me). If I am completely off-base here, fine - ignore and scroll along.

New York Fashion Week kicked off last night. Celebrities, designers and bloggers (and the increasing number of “slashies” that embody all three) have descended on the Big Apple to drink champagne, admire eye-wateringly expensive clothing, and air kiss one another.

Kim Kardashian is set to make her first public post-baby appearance at husband Kayne West’s Yeezy fashion show later today. West will also be debuting his new album The Life of Pablo (formerly known as WAVES), live streaming the concert/show from 8am AEST.

After a short hiatus from the event, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s cult brand, The Row, will make a hotly anticipated return to the American runway on February 15.

And you can bet that Anna Wintour will watch, sphinx-like behind her enormous Chanel glasses, as close friend Marc Jacobs brings the week to a triumphant close with his climactic show.

For a certain kind of person, New York Fashion week is a “must”. For those of a certain age, income and social status, the event is not just a fixture on the social calendar but a high point.

Even for those who aren’t in possession of that enviable trifecta (including me), the slavish devotion the event inspires is familiar through many fictionalised and semi-fictionalised explorations of New York City (think Sex in the City, Gossip Girl, Project Runway, and The Real Housewives of New York City).

But how did it all get started? Why did it begin? Was there even a New York Fashion Week before Anna Wintour?

Fashion Press Week

New York Fashion Week has not always been exalted or esteemed. The event is actually a relatively recent phenomenon: it can be traced back to 1943, when it began as Fashion Press Week. Up until that point, American women overwhelmingly purchased American-made copies of French designs, and thus the American fashion industry was overshadowed by its Parisian counterpart.

During the second world war, however, access to the Gallic centre was cut off by the German occupation. This presented the American fashion industry with a unique opportunity, and Eleanor Lambert, the canny director of the New York Dress Institute, took advantage of this by clustering the American fashion shows into a single “event” to promote home-grown design.

To be clear, these weren’t the first ever fashion shows. From the turn of the century, many individual fashion labels and stores hosted their own shows in department stores and hotels throughout Paris and New York in a bid to drum up business. But Fashion Press Week was the first coordinated fashion event to showcase numerous designers of the same nationality.

Even more importantly, the event also proved the effectiveness of this new approach. Although the initial response wasn’t encouraging – only 53 of the 150 journalists Lambert invited to the first Fashion Press Week attended – the impact of the event was strong and swift.

In its wake, the American press heaped praise upon local designers such as Claire McCardell, and New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia boasted that:

the only reason Paris set styles all these years was because buyers like to go there on holiday.

Unfortunately, LaGuardia’s smug sentiments were premature. Having watched New York’s Fashion Press Week from afar, other sartorial centres began to replicate the event.

In a bid to reclaim its former dominance, as soon as the war ended the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture organised the first seasonal showings of Parisian couture to the international press. Along with the emergence of Christian Dior and his sensational “New Look”, this bi-annual event - which commenced in 1945 - was pivotal in re-establishing the Gallic capital as the sartorial leader of the Western world.

In the immediate post-war period, showings in London also created ripples (although not the tidal waves that Paris did). In January 1942 the London couture industry established its own official organisation, The Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers, which began to host fashion shows after the war.

Bettina Ballard attended these events in her role as fashion editor of American Vogue, and recalled in her memoir In My Fashion (1960) that:

the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers gave handsome and very social parties.

Unfortunately, at this stage the British weren’t so good at sealing the deal, and Ballard noted “the whole couture performance was carried on […] in a rather grand detached manner” as they “never pressed for publicity or even tried to make the buyers buy”.

From the early 1950s, this trio was joined by a fourth fashion market – Italy – which established the “Big Four” that fashionistas still follow today. Seeking to attract bountiful American money to an impoverished and deprived Italy, Giovanni Battista Giorgini orchestrated Italy’s first fashion shows with considerable aplomb.

The first, held in his sumptuous Florentine villa in February 1951, was not a success (180 pieces by numerous Italian designers were viewed by just eight American buyers and a lone fashion journalist – an even worse turnout than Lambert’s first endeavour in New York).

But its successor in July 1951 was a triumph, with 200 American buyers and journalists in attendance, and the event was thereafter established as essential for the fashion-minded.

By the early 1950s, the advent of these rival fashion shows had diluted the sartorial impact of New York’s pioneering event. The annual trips to Paris that LaGuardia had gloated were no longer necessary during the war were back with a vengeance by the late 1940s.

Even worse, they were now the gateway to yet more European options. As Bettina Ballard explained of her own annual migrations:

although Paris was the main objective of each trip, it was also the door to all Europe. I very soon found, along with the postwar travel-starved buyers and the fashion press, how pleasant it was to travel on an expense account with the legitimate excuse of looking over new fashion markets.

American Design for American Women

In the 1970s, the tide began to turn for American fashion. Critical in fostering a renewed respect for American design was the landmark fashion show held in 1973, the so-called Battle of Versailles. Ostensibly a fundraiser for the then-leaky French palace, the event – once again cooked up by the enterprising Eleanor Lambert – pitted five American designers (Oscar de la Renta, Stephen Burrows, Halston, Bill Blass and Anne Klein) against five French designers (Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Emanuel Ungaro, Christian Dior and Hubert de Givenchy).

In front of a crowd full of celebrities, socialites and aristocrats, the Americans stole the show, proving that they could not only compete – but actually win – against their old French rival (and on French soil, to boot).

More broadly, the advent of second-wave feminism during the 1970s also repositioned American ready-to-wear as the ideal solution for the new “working woman”. This development boosted its popularity with both American women and the American press, and generated effusive praise of anything all-American.

A round-up of the New York collections in a 1976 issue of American Vogue, for example, now boasted:

This newfound legitimacy was solidified when the more informal and improvised fashion shows of the postwar period became slick, professional events. The term “Fashion Week” actually wasn’t adopted until remarkably recently: the French Fashion Federation held the first “Paris Fashion Week” in 1973; the British Fashion Council organised its inaugural “London Fashion Week” in 1984; and the Council of Fashion Designers of America waited until the early 1990s to debut “New York Fashion Week.”

It also was during this period that the American shows – which had previously been scattered across town – were centralised in one location (first in “the tents” in Bryant Park, then in Lincoln Centre, and from 2015 shows have been split between the Skylights at Moynihan Station and Clarkson Square. Increasingly, the event is becoming decentralised again, with shows held at a variety of off-site venues throughout the city).

But although last to adopt the term “Fashion Week”, New York remains the first stop during fashion season (every February and September, back-to-back fashion shows are held sequentially in New York, London, Milan and Paris).

Yet New York’s leading role is fitting. Certainly, New York has become one of the great fashion centres of the modern world, a place where trends are forged and significant money is made. But New York is also where the concept of “Fashion Week” was first conceived and executed, a history neatly mirrored in its prestigious opening slot.

Fashion Bomb Daily has great things in store for our devoted readers and followers to keep you entertained and informed!

10. Number ten goes to Jay-Z and Blue Ivy attending a Lakers NBA basketball game. The daddy/daughter date included a one on one convo with the king of the court Labron James encouraging Blue Ivy as Sean Carter looks on. We love the way Jay-Z takes time to be a “girl dad.” Definitely why this is on our top ten list.

9. Number nine of our top videos goes to the impressively gorgeous Meghan Markle and oh so handsome Prince Harry. The lovely high profile couple stole the show and social media recently when they attended the Mount Batten Festival of Music in complementing royal red ensembles. Meg wore a Safiyaa dress with red pumps and a matching Manolo Blahnik clutch. They are a favorite to many of celebrity duos. Their fashion sense is astounding and refreshingly sophisticated. No wonder they made the list.

8. Tracee Ellis Ross is next on the list, she wore a beautiful gown to the Oscars this year designed by Zuhair Murad, styled my Karla Welch. In the video she does a perfect “cheery” freestyled song and joyous rant about Brad Pitt, the veteran actor received an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor his performance this year in “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.” Tracie’s mood is priceless and fitting for most women whom adore Brad as an actor and Hollywood hunk.

7. Kylie Jenner, Kim & Kanye West took our number 7 slot on our video list. For the Oscars, the three star studded family members wore impressive statement pieces as usual. Kylie wore a “navy body-hugging sequined gown from Ralph and Russo for the high profile awards show. Kim took her look to another level “in a piece of fashion history Wearing Lee Alexander McQueen’s famed “Oyster dress” from his spring 2003 collection, Kardashian West channeled the energy of one of the early-aughts’ best runway shows perfectly.

One of only two that made it into production, the look was a Christmas present from Kardashian West’s husband, Kanye West. Purchased from Rita Watnick of Lily et Cie.” Noted by Vogue magazine. It is also only one of two ever produced, with the other gown residing in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection. It sure made a huge fashion statement to say the least. Kayne wore a simple black leather suit and sunglasses.

6. Ciara looked breathtaking at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in a Ralph and Russo bespoke black mesh draped dress embellished with metallic crystals. The singer song writer takes the number 6 position on our list. Ci-Ci was a vision as she posed pregnant with her second child with football hero Russel Wilson. Our appreciation continues to grow for Ciara and Russel with each public appearance.

5. Halima is the 5th video on our top ten list. “The magnificent model wore a custom-made Black Atelier signature pleated fan gown from by Fang” to the Vanity Fair Oscar party, styled by Katie Keim She took a strut down her hotel hallway and stunned social media. She is an unforgettable face of the runway & fashion for 2020 and beyond.

4. The Ralph Lauren gown Janelle Monae’s wore to the 2020 Oscars was a trophy within itself. It takes our number 4 spot on the most viewed video list. Styled by Alexandra Mandelkorn, the dress adorned “168,000 crystals over lacquered silk lame tulle.” What did you think of her look?

3. Nicki Minaj aka “Black Barbie” looked absolutely magnificent in Marc Jacobs at the designer’s Fall 2020 show during NYFW. She takes our #3 video spot respectively. The daring hiphop artist always makes an entrance whether it’s music or fashion and chic, stand out style.

2. Another Oscar red carpet entrance took 2nd place on our top viewed video list. Madame Cynthia Erivo from the hit film “Harriet” wore iconic Versace as she made her way into the awards ceremony, adoring fans cheered her name.

1. Numero uno on our most viewed video list goes to, drum roll please….Kerry Washington! The A list actress and gorgeous mom takes the top spot on our list in a flawless multicolored, beaded and jeweled two piece tribal print ensemble by Zuhair Murad, for the 2020 Oscars. Her impeccable look included gold Sophia Webster heels and Azza Fahmy jewelry. She was the perfect mirror image of a 2020 Egyptian Goddess. What do you say about her wardrobe statement?
