the thing is, right. that i wrote 75 fics for blaseball. more, if you count tumblr prompts - more if you count wiki pages. over the course of late 2020 to the very beginning of 2023, i wrote more for blaseball than i have for anything else, except maybe my friends' oc rp. maybe i'll never write that much for fandom again. my writing developed so much over that period of time - blaseball gave me a lot of inspiration and a lot of practice!! i met incredible writers through it who inspire me so much To This Day. i met incredible people with incredible ideas. i still lurk around in the crabitat, because the community there is lovely and i love looking for secondhand recommendations in the media channels. i could list a lot of regulars i've just... seen around, for about 2, 3 years. blaseball offered me both the opportunity to grow as a writer and the opportunity to find communities that, even if some of them fell apart, taught me a lot of things anyways. i'm still in contact with a lot of people i met through blaseball, and that's fucking lovely!!
i can't say i'm sad it's over. i guess i'm a little sad. but blaseball's been dying for a while, now, and it's the kinda thing you sorta see on the horizon. i'm one of the people who distanced themself from it before it came, and i'm a little grateful to my past self for that - i've got so much going on that i don't have quite enough room for a "i just moved across the country and also tot clark died in my funny game so i'm going to lose it for 5 hours" kind of night. i still have everything that matters. the experience, the community, the funny little guys. but blaseball did a lot for me, so i wanted to say goodbye. here's goodbye.
there is a radio.
sometimes it's in the crabitat. sometimes it's in other stadiums, darkened locker rooms slowly collecting dust; maybe there's the occasional visitor, casting light across worn benches, footsteps leaving imprints on the tile. but there's less and less visitors.
most of the time, it's at home.
you can tune it, if you're careful. it likes to play what it wants, though, and so not-players-mostly-people just let it go, when they find it - whatever jaunty commentator/clawmentator voice it wants to remind them of, games stretching from the very first season to the very last, it gets to do that. it keeps playing, however distorted by static it gets.
time goes on.
there are less people to visit, as time goes on. some people grow old and die. some people don't die, but they do move on, and the radio knows it'd be an unwelcome reminder. but there's always a handful to visit, to comfort, to celebrate with. immortals at a graveyard that used to be a field with strings of pearls in their pockets. the handful of players that kept playing, in the after, maybe other splorts or other games - but they kept playing, and they had fun, eventually. parties of people that used to be on different teams and now just share jerseys like old sweaters, trading stories of how their hometowns have changed since it ended.
sometimes the radio sticks around with someone for a while. sometimes it changes hands every day, every hour, switching its tune to match. sometimes nobody sees it for a very long time, and sometimes people forget it exists entirely. but it always comes back for a visit. a little memory, a little burst of joy-in-static. hello- hello- blaseball fans!
there is a radio. it's lasted for a long time, and it'll last for a while longer, even in the absence of blaseball itself. it lasted through ascension, after all. it lasted through siesta after siesta after siesta.
there is a radio, and there is a world moving on from blaseball.
there is a radio, and there is the lilt of old words, phrases quickly becoming antiquated, kept alive through pick-ups and muscle memory.
there is a radio, and there are people who used to be players.
there is a radio, and there are people who used to be fans, who still are fans, who still will be fans.
there is a radio, and it still loves.
there is a radio, and it still is loved.
(that's all for today's game, folks!)
there is a radio.

genuinely i get so pissed off about how tech-focused job apps are nowadays if i think about it too hard i'll lose my mind. people have articulated the issues w it much more intelligently than i can but working at the library really puts into stark focus how many people are getting fucked over by stupid tech bullshit

sauces2 has moved away from a lot of in-game rp because archiving it has always been a pain in the ass and there's a lot of lost scenes from s1 that we just didn't get pictures or full context from right. but the thing about minecraft-based rp is that the gameplay never stops creating insanely fun things to play with. s1 had a friend accidentally let go of their mouse during a tense moment and kill a guy and that shaped so much. and the ability to sprint out of conversations without that being realized for a while, and a lot of weird little in-game bits. and now in s2 it's: we fucked off to an island in the ocean and found an insane series of flat caverns, and realized that for several hundred blocks there was land that only registered as "warm ocean" with underwater structures spawning on top of it, and deeply fucked up caves beneath because it was Warm Ocean, and then we found a mountain on one of those islands that had aboveground deep dark and shriekers that functioned to spawn wardens. and we have decided that it's the fucked up corpse of a god, and also that we discovered it in character because like two days beforehand i had kidnapped mooshrooms from the island without realizing and my friends had been eating from them for days. and in season two it's also: my friends struggle to follow me in low light / in the nether because i go invisible and can't be seen on the minimap, and i carried around a lantern to avoid that but the lantern stopped illuminating me too, and so. declan doesn't like the fact that being a ghost makes him hard to find, he tries to stay corporeal, it kind of eats at him. and the settings it gives us! wow!!
ostensibly at this point we could give up the minecraft, we have enough infrastructure in place to continue outside of it completely, but that wouldnt be any fun!!! minecraft is so important to the whole thing!!! and interpretation of gameplay is half the fun, and and and. i <3 minecraft rp i <3 minecraft rp. thank you

helpful library visitor tips
you are putting away a book at the library but you dont know exactly where you got it from. what do you do?
"ill just put it back in the general area i found it" dont fucking do that
"ill put it on the end of the shelf where i found it" dont fucking do that
"ill put it wherever im standing on a shelf" dont fucking do that
"ill put it backwards on a shelf" ??? why. dont fucking do that
"im pretty sure i know where it goes but im only 60% sure its in order" dont fucking do that
"its a graphic novel" dont even try.
"okay what do i do then"
PUT IT ON AN EMPTY TABLE
we check these semi-regularly for books people leave behind and we actually know where they go
PUT IT ON AN EMPTY CART
surprise! we also check these semi-regularly for books left behind and we know where they go
SOMETIMES THERE IS A DESIGNATED PLACE
my library has a designated basket for finished graphic novels because our section is so weird. not every library has this but you should check for one for that section. when in doubt: put it on an empty fucking table
PUT IT ON AN EMPTY TABLE
YOU DO NOT KNOW WHERE IT GOES
Thank You. bye

hiiii atti! do you perhaps recs for good videos or seasons to watch for etho content maybe
i do!! i have always been a bigger fan of his solo / team canada content though so unfortunately i will not be much help in the hermitcraft department BUT. i will do my best
obligatory "etho's decked out runs are incredibly impressive and entertaining" post. episodes 14-20 of his hermitcraft s9 (they all have the phase names) are just a blast
hermitcraft s8e3 is also fun. he builds a moss farm
his most recent solo world tour episode is from around 3 years back, episode 550, and it's a really good video to watch if you want a taste of what his let's play is like + the kind of projects he works on in it. also it's fun & i revisit it a lot
sky factory 2.5 & captive minecraft 4 are both extremely fun team canada romps if you want some goofy bullshit! captive minecraft 4 is... much shorter albeit i'm not ENTIRELY sure they ever finished the map
the first five & very last episode of project ozone 2 are delightful for very different reasons
(note: tumblr decided to delete the links off the last two points because it hates me but they are VERY easily findable playlists on etho's channel)
lastly: i've heard really good things abt etho's double life series in particular AND secret life, but my deepest secret is that i haven't actually watched any of them yet. passing on the recommendation from the ethogirls i follow

thinking abt uta again. luffy is 2 for 3 on dead siblings. if uta and ace met as kids they would kill each other but you know they'd be so close anyway. uta and sabo would get along like a house on fire (and cause just as many problems). i think about alive asl + uta siblings and i get really very upset (fond)

im a "koby can hear the voice of all things" hc truther not because i think it will or should be canon & not because i think it's the basis for any real canon divergence aus but because i think that he should be able to hear the grief of Everything at marineford. because i think that the moby dick is an old storied loved ship and she does not go down quietly. because i think that marineford is screaming. because- we are all children of the sea, and the voice of the ocean is not quite mournful but its anger crests, for an old enemy, for a child, for an era finally passing
