After rewatching the first episode of Onegai My Melody’s first season,

I feel like I honestly may have misjudged Hiiragi

Don’t get me wrong, he is still an irredeemable villain. His actions towards Kuromi & Baku, Jun, even Sebastian at times, and basically everyone else he comes into contact with are inexcusable and he feels no remorse for them

But at the same time, he didn’t start out completely heartless. The Hiiragi that quit playing the violin and literally prepares booby traps for his fans that they realistically shouldn’t be able to survive isn’t the same Hiiragi that helped Uta back onto her feet time and time again, and gave a motivational speech to a group of aspiring musicians that he absolutely wouldn’t have had to if he didn’t want to. And with such a genuine tone of voice compared to his more clearly manipulative and detached side that shows in later episodes

When thinking about this, his amusement at the dream of that one kid in Season 2 (The one he speaks to before revealing that he was Bunny-Eared Mask) makes a lot more sense. With him talking about how that dream reminded him of times long past when he could afford to think about things like that. Even going as far as to say that he would be glad to be glad to be his friend if they were to meet again in the future

He’s not an irredeemable villain in the way of “Some people just don’t want to change”, but rather that it’s just too late for him. Whatever his deal is, it developed behind closed doors. One last unresolved problem that flew under everyone’s radars and turned him into the monster he is today. Which, maybe if someone did manage to catch onto it, they could’ve helped him be a better person. But that timeline just ain’t this one

Overall, Hiiragi wasn’t born evil. He is a genuinely semi-tragic character, or at least that’s what the show wants us to believe, we just can’t see it so easily because of how hard the themes of his story clash with the themes of the overall show. Meeting the Girls’ Dream Defense Squad’s optimism with unfortunate realism: Sometimes there are bad situations that are completely unsalvageable. Maybe they could have been salvaged had someone attempted to do so earlier, but that didn’t happen. Whoever that hypothetical someone could’ve been missed that chance, and now the only thing anyone can do is accept that there’s nothing they can do

Does this mean that everyone likes to think of the world in a way that’s too positive for their own good and that in reality everything is and will always be perpetually immutably terrible?

No. It just means that Hiiragi in particular is a bitch

tired.

so today wasn’t your best. you’ve been trying to do your best in school but you’re so tired that you just can’t do it. you failed a math test today and it really sucked the energy out of you. walking home is so much effort today but you have to get home somehow, so you suck it up, despite how much you yawn along the way.

your house is rather far from here, you have to leave an hour before school starts everyday to not be late. it really drains you but it’s a good school so you put up with it. you’re walking for a few minutes, trying not to fall asleep when a black car pulls up next to you. the window rolls down and you see him. hiiragi keiichi. 

how exactly do you describe hiiragi keiichi? he’s the schools golden boy, most students look up to him, and not just because he’s tall. he has his own fan club with dozens of people in it, yet he’s interested in none of them. i guess that’s why you were so surprised when he took an interest in you. maybe he sees something in you that you don’t realize, but he seems to go out of his way to interact with you. most people don’t really notice it though, you get overlooked often.

“would you like a ride?” 

although you feel awkward about it, you accept his offer and open the door. you sit next to him, you usually aren’t this close. he’s surprisingly tall, even when he’s sitting. 

“hiiragi-senpai, how come you offered me a ride? isn’t your place really far from here?”

“you looked tired.”

“oh um, thank you. i really appreciate it.”

small talk isn’t really your thing, it takes a lot of effort to make conversation. but he’s bringing you home, so you feel obligated to at least say something.

“y/n..”

“huh?”

“i noticed that you got a really low grade on that test, you usually do a lot better.”

“oh uh...”

“are you alright?”

“erm..it’s just been a long week i guess.”

you really want to talk about what happened, but it’s hard. i guess it’s not really that easy to talk about your feelings to someone you admire.

“would you like to talk about it?”

you’ve been waiting to hear that all week, but now that it’s finally happened, you can’t get anything out. you try to say anything. but all you can say is “um..” or “er..”.

“you don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to.”

“no, it’s fine.”

it takes a second, but you eventually let it all out. you tell him all about what’s been troubling you, whatever it may be. as you talk, you slowly fall asleep. something about his presence is comforting to you, you start leaning on his shoulder without realizing it. he’s warm. it’s nice.

“it’s going to be okay.”

that’s the last thing you hear before you fall asleep. 

you wake up when the car stops. you look up and he’s looking right back at you. his hand is in your hair, he’s been petting you the entire time. you sit there for a minute, enjoying it until you wake up a little more and realize. you’re literally in the lap of hiiragi keiichi.

you jump up, you don’t know how long it’s been but you’ve been sleeping for a while.

“we’re here.”

“oh um, thank you.”

he hands you your bag and you get out of the car. the window is still open. you look at each other for a minute. he smiles at you, and you smile back. there’s something in his eyes, you can tell it’s genuine. it’s hard to get a genuine smile out of him.

“your snores are cute by the way.”

he drives off before you can process that you were snoring in the lap of yumegaoka high schools golden boy, hiiragi keiichi himself.

aaaaaa i just finished my first fic!!! it’s probably not the best and keiichi might be a little bit out of character, but this is mostly just practice. i’m going to write a much longer one later, but i really need to practice first. i actually really liked writing this, fic writing is fun!!

we've had mixed feelings abt hiiragi keiichi throughout the series but he's such a funny character. he's the most popular guy at school while being a complete asshole. he's a violin genius. he is completely unfazed and unsurprised by the existence of magical stuffed animals and immediately takes control of their operation to end the world. he almost DOES end the world but is stopped by a girl he has against his will become completely fascinated with and won't stop trying to help him. his punishment for almost ending the world is to become a rabbit superhero, which is a genuine nightmare for him. he reads karl marx

Kuromi from sanrio!

Kuromi (クロミ, Kuromi) is My Melody's rival, who is a white rabbit or imp-like creature wearing a black jester's hat with a pink skull on the front and a black devil's tail. The skull's facial expression changes to match Kuromi's mood. Fittingly, her birthday is Halloween (October 31st). Her name translates from Japanese to English as "chrome."

Kuromi's appearance is also similar to those of cartoon characters from the 1990s such as Pichu from Pokémon. Kuromi has become a popular character for the punk, scene, and goth crowds due to her appearance.

Although she may look tough and punk, she is actually very girly and is attracted to good-looking guys! Kuromi enjoys writing in her diary and is hooked on romantic short stories. Her favorite colors are black and hot pink. Her favorite food is shallots, all kinds of meat, and in recent Kuromi merchandise cherries have been shown. Despite being a villain, Kuromi is mostly into food and even cooks. You might call her a rowdy free spirt

Kuromi is from the anime Onegai My Melody. In the anime series Onegai My Melody, Kuromi holds a strong grudge against My Melody originating from small, innocent mistakes My Melody made when they were children. She keeps a notebook which she dubs the "Kuromi Note" filled with over 6,324 instances of times My Melody has wronged her. These events are very minuscule (such as My Melody eating the last pickled onion from Kuromi's school lunch tray) but Kuromi treats them as traumatic events, and vows to get revenge someday. It is implied that these feelings stem from jealousy against My Melody for being "cuter" than she is, and eventually turns to delinquency out of sheer rage and feelings of hopelessness against the world.

After fleeing from Mariland to the human world she meets, partners up with, and falls madly in love with Keiichi Hiiragi, a coldhearted bishōnen violinist. After being chosen by the Dark Power to charge Kuromi's weapon, the Melody Key, through his violin playing, Hiiragi assists her in her quest to collect 100 black notes to summon the Spirit of Dark Power and get revenge on My Melody.
