Keitor Mini-Bang Rules/FAQs
(We owe a debt of gratitude to the Sheith Big Bang, since this FAQ page is based on theirs. Check them out, and consider participating in it next time if you like Sheith!)
GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the Keitor Mini-Bang?
A big bang is a collaborative challenge where writers offer a fanfic and artists claim said fanfic (often based on a summary created before the fic is written) and create art. A mini-bang is similar but requires a smaller word count.
The Keitor Mini-Bang is a collaborative challenge for writers and artists with the ship Keitor from the show Voltron: Legendary Defender, involving the characters Keith and Lotor.
What are the requirements for writers and artists?
The Keitor Mini-Bang requires a word count of at least 3k from writers and one finished (colored and shaded) art piece from artists. Both digital and traditional art are allowed. Traditional art must be scanned in.
Who is moderating this event?
idontgiveaquiznak/idontgiveaq and theuselesscucumber. Please send any questions about the Keitor Mini-Bang to the event Tumblr, Twitter, or email.
Is there any specific theme?
Nope! Just make sure the stories and art center around Keitor as the main ship.
What ratings are allowed? Can my fic/art have NSFW themes?
All ratings are allowed. However, minors cannot create explicit works for this mini-bang. Your fic/art can have NSFW themes if you’re over 18.
Are there any restrictions?
Again, your fic/art may not contain explicit themes if you’re under 18. Otherwise, please refrain from bashing any other ships or characters. The purpose of this bang is to celebrate Keitor, not to tear down other ships or characters. Harassing other creators or bashing ships/characters may be grounds for a ban from future events.
If you’re unsure if something is okay, feel free to ask us on Tumblr or Twitter or via email.
Can my work include dark!Lotor or other dark themes?
Yes. You can even have dark!Keith. Please tag for dark themes and any potential triggers, such as rape/non-con. Alternatively, feel free to use the “Good Lotor (Voltron)” tag if you desire, so other folks who enjoy good!Lotor can find your work!
Are poly ships involving Keith and Lotor allowed?
Yes, so long as Keitor/Keith and Lotor’s relationship is still the main focus of the fic/art.
Can I sign up to make both art and fic?
Please do! We love multitalented people. :)
Can I use a work in progress I’ve already started?
Yes, so long as it hasn’t been previously published, in any part. Your work must be posted in its entirety on your posting date (although previews on your Twitter/Tumblr/etc. are allowed).
Are sequels to fics allowed?
Yes, provided that they can stand on their own without your artist needing to read another fic to understand what’s going on. (If the introduction to your fic needs to refer to another previously published fic in order to make sense, that defeats the purpose of blind claims.)
Can I write more than one fic?
Sure! Just make sure it meets the word count of 3k.
Can I co-author a fic?
Yes.
Do I need a beta?
We do recommend finding a beta reader before posting. If you need someone to look over your fic, we will compile a list of volunteers for you to contact.
Can I post previews on Twitter/Tumblr/etc.?
Yes. Just don’t post anything too substantial before your post date.
SCHEDULE AND PROCESS
When will sign-ups, claims, and posting dates happen?
Please refer to our schedule. This is subject to change; the best way to stay up-to-date is to join our Discord.
How do writers and artists get paired up?
Writers will submit summaries of their work, complete with tags (similar to what you’d see on AO3), and artists will pick the top fics they wish to work on. Mods will then match writers and artists together.
Note: writers will also be expected to have 500 words done so their artist can start completing their work. This can include a rough draft, outlines, notes, chatfic, etc., just so long as your artist has something to work with.
How do check-ins work?
We will periodically email all participants a form to fill out to see if they’re making progress on their fic/art and are still in contact with their partners. These won’t be super extensive; we just want to know what’s going on.
If you miss a check-in and we can’t get in contact with you, you will be removed from the event so your writer/artist can be assigned to someone else. You may also be banned from future events.
How will posting work?
You will be assigned a posting date from February 15th-28th, 2021. This is so each work can get attention, rather than posting everything all at once.
Writers, please post your fic in its entirety on your posting date. Make a Tumblr or Twitter post (or both!) and link to your artist’s work.
Artists, make a Tumblr or Twitter post (or both!) and link to your writer’s fic as well.
KEEPING IN CONTACT/DROPPING OUT
What happens if I lose contact with my writer/artist?
Please contact a mod ASAP if you cannot reach your writer/artist and we will make an attempt to contact them. If they don’t respond, you’ll be assigned another partner.
What if I need to drop out?
Life happens! Just please let us know if you can’t meet the deadline. We can either give you an extension or assign your writer/artist another partner entirely.
If you drop out without letting your partner or a mod know, you may be banned from future events.
Any other questions?
Are there any questions we haven’t answered here? Please feel free to send us an ask, DM us on Twitter, or send us an email and we’ll be happy to help.
