Tory Lanez has officially learned his punishment after being convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion last December.

How Long Will Tory Lanez Be in Prison?

On Monday (Aug. 7), Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion during a July 2020 altercation, according to legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff.

Tory was in court for his sentencing. The Canadian rapper-singer initially was facing up to 22 years and eight months in prison after being found guilty on all three counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner to cause bodily injury.

Why Is Tory Lanez Going to Prison?

Back on July 12, 2020, Tory Lanez, Megan Thee Stallion, Megan's ex-friend Kelsey Harris and a bodyguard left Kylie Jenner's party in the Hollywood Hills when an argument erupted inside their SUV. Things escalated after the vehicle pulled over and Megan got out. While outside of the car, Megan was shot by Tory and injured.

During the trial, X-ray photos of the Houston's rhymer's feet were shown as evidence and it revealed that she had bullet fragments near the back of either one or both feet. At the trial, Megan was adamant in her testimony that Tory Lanez was the person who shot her. After being found guilty of July 2020 shooting Megan Thee Stallion back on Dec. 23, 2022, Tory Lanez's initial sentencing date was slated for Jan. 27. He was able to get the date pushed back a month after acquiring the new legal team of attorneys David Kenner and Matthew Barhoma in an attempt to get the entertainer an appeal. Kenner previously represented Suge in a robbery case back in the 1990s and got him probation; and in a wrongful death case in June of 2022, which ended in a mistrial.

"We look forward to litigating the motion for new trial," Kenner told reporters during a hearing in January. "We are very confident."

What Evidence Was Presented in Tory Lanez's Trial for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion?

Since the trial, all the evidence that was shown to the jurors has been made public including Tory's jail call to Kelsey Harris just hours after the shooting, X-rays of Megan's foot, jail photos, and Kelsey Harris' entire confession to police. Megan has remained mum on social media since the verdict was announced.

After the Trial

After being found guilty of July 2020 shooting Megan Thee Stallion back on Dec. 23, 2022, Tory Lanez's initial sentencing date was slated for Jan. 27. He was able to get the date pushed back a month after acquiring the new legal team of attorneys David Kenner and Matthew Barhoma in an attempt to get the entertainer an appeal. Kenner previously represented Suge in a robbery case back in the 1990s and got him probation; and in a wrongful death case in June of 2022, which ended in a mistrial.

"We look forward to litigating the motion for new trial," Kenner told reporters during a hearing in January. "We are very confident."

Tory Lanez was denied a new trial on May 9.

Tory Lanez's Attorney Initially Requested That Rapper Be Freed on Probation

On Aug. 2, Tory Lanez's defense attorneys filed a sentencing memo in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking the judge to release the embattled artist on probation, according to journalist Meghann Cuniff.

"I have Tory Lanez's sentencing memo for shooting Megan Thee Stallion," Cuniff tweeted. "It asks that he be released from jail to probation and a substance abuse program."

In the memo, "Lanez DOES NOT admit guilt: He says he's innocent and the case has too many problems for his 'lack of remorse' to be considered," the journalist continued.

"It's an interesting mix of 'I'm innocent, but assuming I'm guilty, it’s because my alcoholism is a mental disorder,'" Cuniff concluded.

Prosecutors in the case, however, suggested that Tory Lanez be sentenced to 13 years in prison for his crimes. Four years over the minimum sentence.

What Happens When Tory Lanez is Released From Prison?

Once his time is served, Tory Lanez could also face deportation because he is a citizen of Canada.

Jackson paced the front room in the house he shared with you out in the bayou. If this had been some kind of cartoon, the circle he placed would have dug deep into the structure of the house. He must have ran his hands down his face and through his hair a million times by now. If there was one thing Jackson hated, it was sitting by and feeling helpless.

From the moment you ran out the door to help Hayley with a Mikaelson problem, he knew something was wrong. You never been one to want to help the Mikaelsons before. Yet somehow Hayley had convinced you to do something with her and left him in the dark about the whole plan.

“I can’t explain right now, but I really need you to trust me.” You said, giving him a small smile.

“I will always trust you.” He said as he placed his hand on your cheek. “It’s-”

“Them you don’t trust.” You finished for him as you leaned into his touch. The slight chuckle that passed his lips had made your smile grow. “But we trust Hayley, and that’s enough for me. I’ll be back before you know it.”

That had been the last thing he had heard you say before Hayley caught your attention, informing you it was time to head out. He watched you leave with a small glance back at him. The look in your eyes as you did told him there was more to worry about than you let on.

That had been hours ago. He was tempted to run out and join the both of you to ensure you were safe. But he knew you could handle yourself. He had to trust that everything would be okay. That at any moment you’d walk through that door and everything would be fine.

At the sound of a car pulling up, it should have eased the worry that was coursing through him but it didn’t. His heart sped up as he heard several doors open with the sound of feet rushing on the gravel. He had yet to hear your voice or even pick up on your footsteps that he had grown to learn.

“Jackson!” Hayley’s voice was panicked and it caused him to rush out the front door before she even finished calling out his name. Just as he did, he watched as Freya helped her pull you out of the backseat, your body limp between the two.

“What the hell happened?” He asked as he ran up to them, easily taking your body into his arms and turning back towards the house.

As he carried you inside, he could see that blood covered your body in places. Your face had the slightest of bruising. It looked as if you had been in a fight and the evidence he had in front of him, you had lost that one.

“Our plan fell apart.” Hayley said as she followed Jackson inside.

“There shouldn’t have been a plan in the first place.” He yelled over his shoulder.

“We needed her help.” Hayley tried arguing.

The moment he had placed you down on your bed he turned on Hayley. “Look at her Hayley.” He said as he gestured to you. “Did she even tell you she hadn’t triggered her curse? Or did you just assume?"

Hayley’s face dropped at that information. “I asked her if she could handle this.” She said a moment later. “Well before we got there, Jack. She didn’t back down even when the fight broke out, she stood her ground. Without her a lot of us would have been dead. She helped the pack.”

Jackson ran his hand along his face as he turned away from Hayley, turning his attention back to you. He had no idea how bad your injuries were. If Hayley was saying you were in the fight that happened, he hadn’t expected you to back down.

For the last several months, Jackson had been training you as much as he could with you being human. Without your werewolf gene being triggered, he knew you were vulnerable to an extent. That didn’t stop you from wanting to be a part of the action. It was the only reason he had agreed to this.

"Damn the pack.”While any other time he would never have said anything like that, here you were in the worst shape he had ever seen you in. He was more scared than angry. He just couldn’t get his emotions in control to convey it correctly.

“It’s not her fault.” Your voice was weak. As you came to, you could hear how upset Jackson was with Hayley. If he had anyone to blame it was you. You were the one that came up with the plan. “I wanted to help.”

Jackson was at your side in an instant. He grabbed a hold of your hand and gave you a smile. “It’s damn good to see your eyes.”

Even through the pain you smiled back at him. “Too bad yours aren’t anything special.”

Jackson laughed at that and brought your hand up to kiss the back of it. “Now I know you are okay."

What you had said to each other had been something you two would always say when one or the other had been apart from each other. Up until recently, it was always you starting it off once a month when you got to see Jackson. After Celeste was forced to give the cure, it was rarely said.

"Did you expect anything less?” You brought your free hand up to place it on his cheek. You tried to hide the wince that came with the movement.

“Have you seen yourself?” The humor that was on his face was quickly replaced with worry as he leaned into your touch. “I thought I was going to lose you.”

“I don’t need to see myself with how I feel.” You noted. You were sore in places you never thought possible. Even a slight movement had sent a wave of pain through your body. “It’s going to take a lot to get rid of me.” You said hoping to lighten the situation.

A slight knock at the door, caused you all to look towards it. Freya had been standing there holding up a cup. “I made this for Y/N. It should help with her soreness and kick start her healing.”

Jackson got up and walked past Hayley to grab the cup from Freya. “Thank you.” He said before bringing back to you and helping you drink it.

A look of disgust formed on your lips the moment the liquid touched your tongue. “What the hell is this?” Causing the others to chuckle.

“I never said it was going to taste good.” A grin pulled at Freya’s lips. “I want to say thank you for what you did to help us.”

“Speaking of which,” Jackson said looking between them. “Want to enlighten me as to what the hell was going on?”

Freya and Hayley looked to each other before looking towards you. You rolled your eyes the moment they did. “Go on and get out of here. I’ll give him the details.” That was all that was needed before they were out of the room and moments later the sound of a car starting could be heard.

You looked at Jackson, who had the ‘I’m-waiting” expression, causing you to sigh softly. “The plan was to help stop a witch from taking control of the packs.” Jackson’s eyebrow raised and you rushed to get the rest out before he tried to say anything. “I know we’ve dealt with this before but it was never to this extent. She had Davina roped into it. I was the only one that was going to be able to get through that barrier the witch put up.”

“Was it your idea to be in the line of fire?” He asked. His words were filled with worry and had a slight tone of anger in them.

“It was either that or I would have lost you to some spell.” It had been the truth. If that witch had finished her spell with Davina’s help, he wouldn’t have been the Jackson you knew and loved. You brought your hand up to his face, keeping a brave face on against the pain you felt, and placed it on his cheek. “If it wasn’t now to help prevent it. It would have been later to get you back.”

Jackson sighed as he leaned into your touch. “Have I ever mentioned how crazy you are?”

While he hated that you had gone through all of that without telling him, he understood. He had watched as you almost went crazy trying to find a cure for Celeste’s spell after he turned for the first time. You hated to see anything happen to him and Jackson knew that.

“Maybe once or twice.” A smile pulled at your lips. “Thank you for trusting me and not chasing after us.”

“Oh believe me, there were several times I almost did.” He said as he gently moved to lay next to you in the bed. “You have no idea how glad I am you are alive. I thought the worst when Hayley pulled up.”

“Like I said it’s going to take a lot more to get rid of me.” You attempted to curl into his side and hissed at the pain.

Jackson chuckled and shook his head. “Says the woman that is going to be on bed rest until she is healed.” He helped you get into a comfortable position with your head on his chest.

“Definitely not happening.” You protested.

“You say that now, but tomorrow when you are in more pain, you’ll be okay with the idea of me helping you.” There was a playful smirk on his lips as he said it. He kissed the top of your head.

You knew he was going to enjoy taking care of you. As much as you wanted to be able to be up and do things tomorrow, you knew he was right. For as many times you helped to take care of him, you were looking forward to it being the other way for a change.

“I’ll hold you to that, Kenner.” You said with a grin.
