DP x DC Writing Prompt #9
"Are you sure about this?" J'onn asks, reading the discontent amongst the Kents. Clark and Lois each have a hand on their teenage son's shoulders, who several weeks prior was aged ten years old.
"We're sure," Clark says. He is not, nor is his wife. But his son is, who lays his hand on his mother's and squeezes. It is that surety that J'onn honors as he delves into the young (but not as young as he should be) man's mind.
The memories are hard to find but not gone, hidden behind what Jon can only see manifested as a glowing green wall. When he raises a tentative hand, the shield sparks green, but does no harm. Pushing through is like wading through the consistency of jello, which he finds an overall unpleasant experience. But he is unharmed as he passes through.
Before J'onn can sort through the memories he is all but sucked into the one at the forefront, where a Jon most similar in visage to the one recently returned perches on the edge of a building. Beside him lies a burger, partially unwrapped though uneaten, and a small soda.
As the memory builds out a sun sets on a small suburban town, and a muscled thigh knocks into Jon's, an older man with a shock of white hair and eyes the same light and color as the shield formed around these memories appearing. He's tall even sitting, likely about as tall as Superman, and looks to be in his thirties. A full body suit comprised of black and silver accents stretches across broad shoulders, a stylized D on his chest. He knocks his thigh into Jon's again.
"You said I couldn't go back," Jon says quietly.
"I lied," the man says lightly.
"You're lying now," Jon says, glaring at him. "I can hear your heart."
"Nice try, kiddo, I don't have a heart in this form," the man says, reaching a hand out, presumably to ruffle his hair. Jon dodges.
"I know you're lying. You would've told me. You would've helped me get home."
"Jon--"
"You're protecting Clockwork, aren't you?" Jon demands, eyes beginning to burn red. "That old coot decided it wasn't enough to play with you, he had to play with me too."
The man slaps a hand over Jon's eyes. "Breathe, like we practiced," he instructs firmly. Steam rises from where his palm meets Jon's eyes, but if it hurts he shows no indication. "In, 2, 3. Out, 2, 3."
Jon whimpers but heaves a breath, and the burst of red light dies down from between the man's fingers. His hand moves down to Jon's shoulder.
"I can't pretend to understand Clockwork's decisions," the man says, as tears begin to pool in Jon's eyes. "Frankly, I don't want to. I suspect they are hard decisions to make, sometimes."
"I don't get why you defend him," Jon says. "Dumbledore acting bastard."
"Language," the man says, lightly bopping him on the head. J'onn notes the boy actually winces, as if the blow hurts.
"I am upset with him, I hope you know that," the man continues. "But at the end of the day I'm also grateful. Because I got to meet you." He hooks an arm around Jon's shoulders, pulling him in. "And now you'll get to see your family again. And Sally, Arnold, and Damian!"
Jon sniffles, rubbing roughly at his face. He leans into the man's bicep. A trusted adult figure, then. One he's described his life to. A life, J'onn is sad to note, he appears to have lived for the past six years, as opposed to a sudden shift in appearance. Jon's next question all but confirm it: "Can I really go back? It's been so long. They'll be all grown up."
"Hey, of course you can," the man says, rubbing his shoulder. "I'm sure they've missed you so much. They'll be so happy to see you again."
Jon starts to smile. "I'm going home."
"You're going home!" The man laughs, shaking him.
"I can finally eat some decent barbecue again!"
"Hey!" the man protests, "The smoker blew up one time!"
Jon continues, beginning to get excited. "And Ma will make her jalapeño cornbread! I never could get it right, I can't wait for you to try it!"
J'onn notes the older man's smile fading, eyes growing sad.
"And Damian will definitely want to spar and oh, oh! With you on our side we can totally prank Batman! I bet Alfred will even help! And Mom gives the best hugs, Pops comes really close but Mom will be really excited to meet you, everyone will."
"Jon," The man says.
"I knew you'd be worried about it, but they'll want to meet you," Jon says, clocking his expression. "They'll be grateful. You, you helped me. You kept me safe and taught me how to be Superman. They'll love you, I promise."
"Jon, I can't go with you," the man says gently.
"I'm not saying you stay, but you can visit! I'm sure the Justice League can figure out a way to maintain a portal, they're super used to all that multiverse stuff. Once they have the coordinates, you can stop by whenever!"
"I can't go through the portal, Jon," the man says. "To other worlds, I'm a god. And gods can't interfere. The only reason I can continue to live here is because this is the world of my origin."
Jon gapes at him. "But--but,"
"You're going to see your Mom and Dad again," the man says. "And your brother, and grandparents."
"I can come here, then," Jon says desperately, pushing his way out of the man's arms. The man is already shaking his head. "I can!"
"You can't."
"Why, because Clockwork says so? He's a liar!"
"Because multiverse travel is never a good idea. If you got trapped here again--"
"I wouldn't,"
"You belong with your family,"
"You're my family!" Jon cries. The man freezes. "You, and Sam, and Jazz, and Tucker and Val and Ellie and Pops and Mads, you're all my family! I can't just leave you, I won't!"
"Oh kiddo," The man says, eyes wet. "I love you too. We all do."
"So I'll stay," Jon says decisively. "For all we know my world is a wasteland. Gramps wasn't exactly right in the head when I left. It's better to stay here."
J'onn notes a green vine unwinding from a nearby trellis. It slides down the eave towards the pair.
"You don't mean that," the man is saying.
"I'm sixteen. I can make my own decisions. I'm staying."
The man cups Jon's face. "Your parents did not have a choice in losing you. I'm willing to bet they're devastated. Because I'd be devastated, losing a kid as great as you."
"Maybe they're not even there," Jon says, but the words are half-hearted, and it clearly hurts him to say them.
"I know I seem like a pushover, but if I thought Clockwork was sending you back to anything less than your loving family, I'd destroy him first. And he knows that. They're going to be there, I promise."
"I don't want to go," Jon says. Behind him, the vine rises from the eave of its own will, poised like a cobra enchanted by a snark charmer.
"I know," the man says, eyes drifting to the vine. "I'm so sorry, Jon."
"For what?" Jon asks, as the vine attaches itself to the nape of his neck. His eyes roll back as he collapses into the man's arms. The man hugs him tighter than is strictly necessary.
J'onn expects the memory to now end, alongside Jon's consciousness. To his curiosity, it does not.
"For what it's worth," a young woman spits bitterly, vines supporting her weight as she slips over the side of the roof. "I still think this is horrible." Her eyes are red and miserable.
"Seriously, team punching Dumbledore in the face," A young black man says, appearing in the air supported by a woman almost identical in appearance to the man holding Jon, down to the suit colors. They land on the rooftop.
"Are you sure about this," the dark haired woman with powers over plants asks. "Because to be honest, Danny, I'm five seconds away from punching you in the face."
"Jazz won't speak to you for months," the girl, likely his sister, points out.
"Make it a year," the man says, crossing his arms.
The man, Danny, ignores them all. He cards a hand through Jon's hair. "He'll retain the experience, but not the memories?"
"Yes, he'll be a perfect little superhero, just as you taught him," the woman says, vines twisting agitatedly around her, wrapping around her thigh, wrists and neck almost punishingly.
"Sam," the man says. "He needs to go home. All of you know that."
"He doesn't have to forget us to do so!" the sister bursts, eyes flashing green.
"Remembering would be a torment," Danny says. "He'll know he was loved. That's enough."
"Danny," the plant woman says, sitting beside them both. She puts a gentle hand on his, both on Jon's back. "This is just a different torment."
"And if someone finds out?" Danny asks. He has been patient amidst their scorn, but now a tiny edge ekes into his voice. "A god's child, unprotected? Threatened? He would never stop looking for a way back, and being vocal about it could get him killed."
The others are silent.
"He'll be home. He'll be happy," Danny says. More powerful than a prayer. A directive. He raises his head past the child slumbering in his lap, past them all, face hardening, and says to J'onn: "And you will say nothing."
J'onn takes a step back, fear so thick he could choke on it flooding his very being. Thismanwillkillhim, thismanwillkillhim.
This man will reach through dimensions and kill him.
"Now, get the fuck out of my kid's head," Danny snarls. J'onn is pushed back with enough force he enters his own mind in a vicious whirl that leaves him physically on the floor, gasping.
"I'm sorry," he says as Superman rushes to lift him, and he's not sure who he's apologizing to. Green eyes will pierce his dreams. Vines will crush his throat in his nightmares, screaming silence, silence.
You will say nothing.
"I'm sorry," J'onn says, politely pushing Clark's hands away as he rises. He's already beginning to calm, because he understands. Those are consequences he will not face. He will do as directed. He looks at Jon Kent, bewildered but unharmed, clutching his mother's hand.
J'onn reaches down and dusts at his pants. "I'm sorry," he says evenly, ready to spin his tale. Perhaps the Kents will continue to seek their answers. Perhaps not. He will stay out of it either way. He has been warned.
You were loved by gods. And to keep you safe, they would quiet us all.

They're constantly referring to each other as "colleagues" even after all this time
One time Bruce comes home brooding more than usual and when asked he's like "I got into a disagreement with someone at the office"
Or Clark triple-checking that his suit and tie look right because he doesn't wanna embarrass himself at a work dinner with Bruce
Clark randomly laughs in the middle of the day at the Daily Planet because of something his co-worker from his second job sent him (it was a picture of Ace)
Bruce randomly buys gifts for Clark for "networking purposes," like Belgian chocolate or a diamond watch band
When Clark is stressed over a deadline Bruce will talk him through it over the phone because that's what colleagues do for each other
When other people ask where they see themselves in 10 years they always mention wanting to be each other's "business partners"
They once shared the same bed at a hotel on a "business trip" because getting two different ones would "go over the budget"
After a particularly bad Justice League mission, Bruce and Clark go for a long stroll together to "regroup" and "think up a new strategy"
They also coordinate Wayne Enterprises and Daily Planet lunch breaks so Clark can fly over to Gotham with the pie that Ma specifically made for Bruce
The Justice League does a holiday gift swap and Diana rigs it so Bruce and Clark get each other, but it backfires on her when they keep separately coming to her for advice as they're panicking about picking the right present
Bruce saved Clark in his contacts as "Colleague <3" and claims the heart is to differentiate him from all the other JL members and WE employees
One time Dick asked Bruce where he was going and Bruce said it was another work meeting with Clark, and Dick was like, "A work meeting in a horse-drawn carriage through the park?" To which Bruce said it was being paid for by Wayne Enterprises and therefore was business-related
Their families got together on Kent Farm for a summer barbecue after they said they had some "big news" to share, which turned out to be the merger between Wayne Enterprises and the Daily Planet. More than one people were left disappointed but Bruce and Clark couldn't figure out why
Clark flies over to Gotham in the mornings to bring Bruce coffee from a place they both like in exchange for Alfred's breakfast pastries
When Bruce is in Metropolis, he sneaks into Clark's office and waits until Clark gets back
Wayne Enterprises branches into the jewelry industry and Bruce gets himself and Clark matching gold rings as part of the "product testing" procedure
On slow patrol nights, they'll meet up on a random rooftop and just talk because "regular updates are vital to business communication"
They practiced how to waltz with each other so they look good in front of others at an upcoming gala
The other heroes have a running bet on how long until they get together, and of course Diana is in the lead

i've been in a haze finishing up the lutalia fic so i could post it today so i haven't gotten much done on the fic that won the wip poll but! here, have what i do have for jealous eddie/oblivious buck
Eddie’s good mood soured the second that Buck walked into Bobby and Athena’s backyard— something that had never happened before. But it wasn’t because of Buck, no it was because beside Buck was Natalia, the beautiful death doula Buck had met on a call and had been seeing ever since.
Eddie hadn’t expected Buck to bring her to the 118 barbecue that Bobby was hosting but he guessed that he should’ve. He should’ve expected that Buck would bring his girlfriend because of course he would. Buck loved his family and the 118 was his family— obviously, he would want to share that with his partner.
“You okay, Dad?” Christopher asked, elbowing him softly.
“Yeah, yeah I’m fine, kid,” Eddie smiled down at his son. Thankfully Christopher didn’t seem to notice that his smile was fake, he was too busy getting up to go greet Denny, who had just arrived with Hen and Karen. Those two had been fast friends and Eddie was thrilled.

to think about what it must’ve been like for jamie once roy took over as manager for afc richmond... what that adjustment must’ve felt like after jamie had been roy’s sole focus of undivided attention morning and night off the pitch, helping him be the best he could be for months. he’s well aware that this current roy has more responsibilities, more planning to uphold the team, better things to do and people to see. that they couldn’t possibly keep the same comfortable habitual routine. and jamie would never ask too much of him. because he would take anything of roy he could get, and keep it with reverence. was jamie left wondering, longing, hoping, that there would still be any roy kent left for him? secretly praying that this wouldn’t finally put an end to those indefinite rendezvouses, ones he could only obtain while sharing treasured moments on empty streets in the dark?
at first roy was always too afraid to cross the line of the professional into the personal; never spending quality time with jamie outside the excuse of training, not allowing him the simple label of a friend— or ‘best friend.’ trying to convince himself that jamie couldn’t possibly be so worthy of his pride despite his growth. yet now. now they’ve met each other’s families, had their first post-work drink, roy called what they had a friendship he demonstrated too painful to ever lose, they eat late night sacred kebabs together, they can attend team barbecues without being forced into sitting on their closely adjoining chairs. the lines have been blurred.
what did it all mean to both slowly and all at once lose those walls dividing them. what did that transition look like for roy to finally admit to himself that he desired jamie’s consistent unrestrained company. to allow himself such a committed ardent presence in his life even if it meant just sitting intimately in a room, with no expectations other than both being there. permission and patience and open smiles. nothing left between them besides the undeniable energy in the air they’d always felt, lingering and striking lightning at last.

I’ve maybe taken one too many painkillers so let’s see if I can get through this episode without falling asleep 🤞🏼
Let’s go!
Episode 7 - Boxes The Strings That Bind Us
Tumblr media
This song 😍
Loving this rom-com opening sequence. Very You’ve Got Mail
Now Roy knows how to ride a bike we’ll never get him off one 😂
I’ll admit I do find Nate & Jade quite cute
I do love Jack & Keeley too, but I think Jack saying she can get very jealous is going to be very important 👀
‘Yes, chef!’ I really like Simi too
YEEAAHHH!!
(Is it just me or are the titles getting brighter??🤔)
A barbecue related hallucination 😂
God, Ted, put your sexy arms away. I don’t know what to do with myself! 🫣
Fucking Tim Robinson 😂
Beard still committing to the bit that he can’t speak Dutch 🫡
Bald jokes. Love to see them!
I love that they’re all in a great place, including Jamie, where they can make all these jokes and no one gets offended. Growth, baby!
“It’s my mother proudly displaying her vibrator on the bedside table!” OMFG 😂 funny every time!
Brilliant PowerPoint, Coach, great job!
My baby Barbra 🥰
She’s such a snarky bitch. I love it 😂
Keep digging, Keeley 🫠😂
Taking the tube in her pyjamas. She’s so quirky 😜😂
Does him mum call him ‘cheeky’?? Why is that kind cute
“Hey, Siri. Yes, Wunderkind” 😳😂 wow
‘You can’t’ brutal 😂
Fucking pegging! Phoebe just wants to write herself the most fun character to play, and you know what I respect that!
Oh Mae is not happy 🫣
Aww, protective bestie 🥰
“It’s their team. We’re just borrowing it for a little while” 🥹 beautiful
“I guess marriage and pegging aren’t really that different” “Yeah, it’s all about the compromise” 🫡
They’re really making a point of showing Richmond and bringing those rom-com vibes, huh
Oh he really likes her 🥹 bless
Drill sergeant Kent is hot
Finally offering him a plastic whistle 😂
My baby Barbra see you 👀 And she knows Jack so I think I know where this is going…
The convo about getting in trouble because of dating your boss 👀👀 SAY IT LOUDER
Dan 😂 he’s an ally ✌🏼
Eww, that’s rank 🤢
REBECCA!! Only taken nearly 20 minutes to see her 🙄
She looks awfully good in that shade of blue too 🥵
“It was gezellig” 🥺 she was truly changed by that guy, huh.
“But, yeah, I would’ve liked to have seen his penis” and there’s my horny Barbie 😂
How does she know about love bombing?? Did someone tell her that’s what he was doing to her at the beginning of their relationship??
Bi Rebecca confirmed?? 🤔🫡
God, she is really fidgeting with that ring!
Oh you can tell Hannah & Juno just really love being together. They make Rebecca & Keeley so gorgeous to watch 🥰🥰
‘The really Rebecca is silly’ I love that we’re really getting to see this side of her now
His sister calls her daughter ‘cheeky’ too. A family thing?? It’s sweet
I love that it’s the women telling him you can’t tell the difference. So true 😂 women, like girls, are mysterious
Okay, that map is very cute
Another ‘rom-com’ sequence 🫡 just to hammer it home a bit more
I agree with you completely, Simi
One thing I really do love is this show focusing on how guys struggle with everything too. Nate’s nervousness over asking her out is so real. And thank fuck he didn’t spit on the mirror again!
Roy being worried his breath actually smells 😂
OMG the Beard & Will switch!!! Possibly the best thing they’ve ever done on this show! And you just know Brendan & Charlie had the most fun with it 😂😂
Same with the Isaac and Dani switch. Dani’s ‘we’re gonna fuck ‘em up, bruv’ is a masterpiece 🫡😂
Even the pub boys switching. Ted, your reach is far & wide my friend!
How many times do you think James missed that catch 😂
Does he know positions now? Is he learning the sport??
Poor Higgins 😂😂
You just know Charlie really was having the time of his life shooting this episode 😂
Drink every time there’s a ‘rom-com’ sequence
Babs 👀 I think I know what you know
Jack, it saddens me to admit I’m liking you less and less with every gesture…
Around their dicks 😂 Roy, you mind is a dark place
Gosh, did Amsterdam change everyone? As gorgeous is Brett’s smile is it’s very weird to see 😂
I just know that was super fun to shoot, too. THIS IS WHY WE NEED BTS STUFF AND BLOOPERS!!! APPLE TV ARE YOU LISTENING!!!!!!!
That scream 😂 & Brendan’s reaction 😂
Can I just say that I love that these boxes are Nathan’s thing and that he hasn’t stopped doing them even after all the boys laughed about them before
Oh this song 🥰 one of my absolute faves 🥰 having a connection between the song, Jack & Keeley, and whatever the fuck is on Juno’s head better not ruin it for me 😂
Oh that poor box
Oh no! 🥺 Sam 🥺
Guys, Trent’s writing a book. I actually kinda forgot why he was there 😂
Any bets on how many takes that took 😂 very impressive! (And this music will always be linked to Chicken Run for me. Anyone else??)
Ted is practically naked this episode! Just having his arms out, willy nilly!! Is this a metaphor too??
‘Yes, sir. No ma’am’ nicely done, Ted
Woah, this is heavy! Shining a big spotlight on the poor boys who play for England and had it absolutely ripped out of them after the World Cup 🥺🫡 but hats off to Toheeb! Nice to see Sam not optimistically happy all the time
THIS FUCKING FUNNY LITTKE FOOTBALL SHOW MAKES ME CRY WAY MORE THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD 🫠
(Jeez, his dad is massive 😳 the kinda guy you know everyone is scared of, but is an absolute teddy bear. Looks like he gives good hugs too 🫣)
Big woop. BIG WOOP love a callback
Also great advice for our girly. Best way to piss Rupert off is to show he doesn’t get to you!
‘Don’t fight back, fight forward’ 🫡 yes, sir
Aww, the ear rub. Another callback!!
The dads getting along 😂 we love to see it
Oh, hello Rebecca. Nice to see you again 🙄
He brought her tulips?? Was that actually her favourite flower 🤔 I’m thinking not
Why does she greet Leslie so weirdly 😂 always as if she’s been caught doing someone
Omg he told his dad 😳 AWKWARD!!! 😂
Oo she’s not happy
CHIP!! A hat trick for Chip with Arsenal. Bet his life has been made 😂
I think the best acting Hannah has ever done in her career is showing how invested Rebecca is in football 😂
Ooo, they’re getting angry…
‘Sharp dressed men’ 😂 Roy. ONE OF US! ONE OF US!!
Love a backstory to the moustache.
‘Ass-squatch’ please let’s this just be how Roy is from now on 😂😂
‘Sometimes the right idea is just sitting behind a couple of the wrong ones’ SAY IT LOUDER!!
Another callback!! Again, we love to see it!!
Jamie, my boy. Well done 🫡
They’re finally back!! Wooo!!
Oh we love a dramatic Trent 😂 is he going to remember that Rebecca mentioned ‘The Lasso Way’ during his first press conference?? 🤔
‘What a dork’ ‘Yeah, but he’s our dork’ 🥰
Oh, they’re sweet 🥹
‘Did you make things weird?’ ‘Yes’ 😂
I love how they talk about and show both terrible and supportive fathers.
The boys came to help sort the restaurant 🥹 I love them more and more every episode
Of course Bumbercatch can fix a neon sign 😂
The difference in the interaction between him & Rebecca and him & Simi 😂
He didn’t tell his dad what he named his restaurant 🥹 he’s so touched
Omg Ola is me 😂 I always cook to music, but absolutely cannot do it without dancing around the kitchen
Well that was another wonderful episode! But I do have one question; Phoebe, what do you have against Rebecca?? We hardly saw her in this episode!! That’s just rude, that is.
I'm hoping the lack of Hannah in this one will be made up for in the next one because I really need to see a scene between Rebecca & Henry and Michelle 👀

Hiii may i request ❤️💖🌸⭐️ for Kent? Bahahaha, im a disgusting fan, please I need kent content or I will scream
[ask prompt!]
IT'S YOU AND ME BOTH... we're just [shaking hands about filling up the kent tag] LOL ty for your service... but okok this is lowkey making me insane, some headcanons below the cut! thank you for the ask and have a lovely rest of your week! <3
note: minors DNI - cw explicit themes
Tumblr media
note: the emojis don't quite match up so i am assuming these are the ones you were going for- sorry if i misread them! also i got your second ask but i'm assuming it's a repeat ask in case the first one didn't send because it's the same characters? sorry it took a while to write- i got a few more asks than i anticipated! thanks again :]
☆ - happy headcanon: the idea he likes daffodils makes me want to explode. playing off of the canon-friendly dialogue expansion mod, where daffodils reminds him of a poem that kept him going in the worst of the war- it also reminds him of his childhood where they'd grow in his backyard! upon the farmer gifting him one, he'd crack a rare smile that sticks around in the farmer's head all week!
♥ - family headcanon: it's a heartbreaking reality that he isn't close to his family as the others in the valley and upon coming back after finally being released from duty, he realizes he doesn't know anything about his two sons. he then takes every opportunity to spend time with them: he starts going to the beach with sam and vincent during the summer, he hypes vincent up to be brave during the spirit's eve maze, he barbecues for the boys on warm evenings, he attends sam's gigs at the saloon... all the while being completely uncomfortable and stoic as ever, he at least is TRYING. and sam and vincent notice- and they appreciate it!
♡ - romantic headcanon: HELLO... naturally he'd do everything in his power to avoid accepting his feelings- he's not an available man, of course of course... but for some reason, he can't avoid the farmer- he'd take every opportunity to learn more about them, work alongside them as they fish or harvest their crops... it was a summer night when the two shared a beer by cindersap forest, trying to reel in a nice haul throughout the day to enjoy the fruit of their labors as the sun touched down on the valley- he couldn't take his eyes off their face and they couldn't help but notice how he'd linger his gaze upon their lips... they knew he held too much on his shoulders so they decided they'd take the first step and kiss him! he hasn't had any intimacy in a long time- all because he'd believe he isn't worthy of such love, having blood on his hands, seeing the worst there is to humanity, so it is up to the farmer to prove him otherwise!
✿ - sex headcanon: LKAJSLAJFR <- ME GOING CRAZY! it isn't a secret that the ex-soldier is not intimate with his wife but it never was a lack of a sex drive but rather completely falling out of love with her just as she did with him <- it's own can of worms that i actually have a post in the making to discuss. i'd think he wouldn't be big on physical intimacy- rather thriving on moments of small gestures of verbal affirmation and quality time spent together. but you're not here for that . he's huge, prefers missionary & doggy, and comes inside [#^-^#]

Green green grass...
Even praten. Raad vragen. Over sterk moeten of willen zijn. Over tijd nemen voor mezelf. Over de juiste keuzes maken. Even naar papa.

23 au 29 mai 2022
Monday through Wednesday was hectic. Monday morning the masons arrived and started working on the collapsing stone wall supporting the walkway. I found two Pistachia dug up and placed in my Gator. Why doesn’t anyone have conversations ? I then noticed that they covered another area the same size again that I had removed plants on Friday. They were going to squash them all under plastic. I said I would remove them and that all they need to do is ask. I also told them each plant costs 10€. I moved around another 40 plants. In the evening was a nice gathering at Denis and André’s for an early birthday dinner for André.
Tumblr media
Tuesday I managed to lightly trim all the Pistachia in the prairie and lightly thin the Reseda lutea. I showed Thomas where the taps are and hopefully he’ll be watering for me while I’m away. It rained a little and we had lots of lighting and thunder Tuesday evening. I had a nice chat with Jody. The Iberis sempervirens I ordered finally arrived; they are tiny. I’m glad I went out Monday to purchase some nice big Limonium perezii for a pot that Laurie has been asking me to change for a few weeks.
Tumblr media
I also bought a Convolvulus sabatius for another pot on the patio in dappled shade.
Tumblr media
Wednesday I had to have a Covid test in the morning. Then I had my hair cut in the early afternoon then had an adjustment and a massage. Most of the Champagne flutes I bought from Ikea arrived, one box short. I’m going to see if things sort themselves out on this, I’m out of time.
Thursday very early I started my journey to LA for the first time in almost three years. British Airways, Economy Plus, via Heathrow, to LAX. Thankfully I’m still Silver so I can use the lounge during my layover. I was able to stop by Fortnum and Mason to buy a few gifts for Kerry and Sheryl, Yeah!
Tumblr media
Friday the last box of Champagne flutes was delivered; I’m wondering where they are sitting. Sadly, Thomas’ mum died, I didn’t even know she was ill. Janet, Stacy and Piper arrived from Wisconsin. We enjoyed a good day of catching up. Saturday Kerry, Mike and Matthew drove down; Jeffrey was working at REI. Eric, Sofia, Heather, Kent and Megan all arrived around noon. Dianne and Ken hosted a really nice mini family gathering all afternoon. Janet and Heather had never met. That evening the Reilings took me back to San Gabriel.
Sunday Eric, Heather et al. met Kerry and me at Mt. Lowe Brewery, then they came over to Dad’s house for a barbecue in the evening. It was really nice to spend time with them. Heather and I have a bit of a bond. I hope we stay in touch now.

Kent's Family Weekend Babercue
Conner: *enters room looking sad*
Jon: Did something happened, Kon?
Jay: *hugging Jon* Yea, are you okay?
Kara: *sitting with Lena on her lap* Whatever it is you can count on your antie Kara.
Clark: *enters the room holding Lois hand* Hey, is something going on?
Lois: Conner, honey, you look sad.
Conner: YES! I'm sad. And the fact that there's a bunch of happy couples EVERYWHERE isn't helping. Geez!
Damian: *playing with Kripto* Is it about Tim?
Conner: *sobbing* He got a stupid boyfriend and it's not me *cries*
Damian: I can always kill him for you.
Clark: DAMIAN! STOP TRYING TO FIND REASONS TO MURDER TIM.
Damian: But he lost my pen.
Everyone: DAMIAN!
Damian: It was my favorite pen.
Lois: That is not a reason to kill him, Damian.
Damian: Okay. Can I at least give him a serious injury?
Kara: Why don't you ask your dad about it, kiddo.
Damian: I did. He said no. I told him that all the dead Robins have came back and Tim would just ressurect, so it wasn't really an inssue. He told me that if I was able to convince Pennyworth I could. I was unable to convince Pennyworth.
Conner: Nothing about it is helping AT ALL.
Kara: Uh... Let me see... Oh, I was talking with Kori and she said me that Roy told her that Jason commented that Dick said he heard Steph saying that Bernard, Tim's boyfriend, looks like Fred from Scooby Doo.
Conner: ... That weirdly helped.
Kara: See I'm the best aunt.
Lena: I could do better. I just don't know this Bernard very weel. But Kon, honney, if you ever want to trash talk him, you can come to aunt Lena.
Conner: Thanks.
Kara: Ownt, love, akready trying to steal my nephews.
Lena: Techinally, my brother is Conner's mon.
Clark and Kara: LENA.
Jay: *confused noises*
Conner: *dying inside*
Lois and Jon: *politely pretending not to laugh*
Damian: *rolling in the floor from laughing*

Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow?
Tumblr media
I just love Tyler Hoechlin on Superman & Lois. His Clark Kent rocks chunky cable-knit cardigans, pivots his Metropolitan family into farming, and pours a nightly glass of white wine for his badass wife. Dad goals aplenty — and when he suits up to catch a falling bridge in China, he waves to a rescued bystander. No big deal, his smile says, all in a day's work. It's a classic version of the most classic superhero, an ageless paternal hunk rendered puny behind glasses and the last tie any print journalist will ever wear.
But the hit CW drama already revealed another possible Man of Steel, a world-destroying alternate Superman introduced in a flashback eye-barbecuing an army. He wears black, just like Henry Cavill's resurrected Kal-El in Zack Snyder's Justice League. And that four-hour HBO Max event ends with a premonition of Superman gone mad, driven murderous by the death of Lois Lane (Amy Adams). These fallen gods have company. Amazon Prime Video's The Boys features Antony Starr as Homelander, an über-American sociopath. He shares a streaming service with Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons), the greatest defender of Invincible's Earth, who finishes up his series premiere ripping apart his fake Justice League one spinal cord at a time. Let's put a pin in calling the Utopian (Josh Duhamel) nefarious, but the patriarch of Netflix's upcoming Jupiter's Legacy has dark secrets. And his troubled son Brandon (Andrew Horton) wears a red-caped blue costume I would describe as "lawsuit-proof." (The Marvel Cinematic Universe is making its own moves in this direction, with the briefly bad resurrected Vision and a new Captain America covering his shield with fresh blood.)
An optimistic read would classify the Evil Superman glut as countercultural activism: a middle finger to the boomers from Generation Harley Quinn. The classic character offers easy signifiers to deconstruct. He is toxically masculine, supremely white, a whole surveillance state unto himself. Comparisons to certain monster presidents and canceled icons are welcome. "I know you want me to be like you," Homelander's son (Cameron Crovetti) tells the star-spangled pyscho. "But Dad, I'm not." That kid goes on to incinerate Homelander's Nazi girlfriend: Great job, youth! Meanwhile, Invincible's real star is Omni-Man's son, Mark (Steven Yeun), a sincere do-gooder. Their malicious elders stand in for larger societal decay. And even the WarnerMedia-approved Supermen withstand suspicion from paranoid worlds. Cavill's hero spent a whole movie proving to Batman (Ben Affleck) that he wasn't a bad guy; apparently, the next movie would have proved Batman right. Hoechlin's yearning sincerity sticks out like a sore thumb in modern-day Smallville, a depleted land of meth explosions and bank foreclosures. Recent events in our own world offer little hope for a brighter future. Everything has gone wrong with everything. Why should the Man of Tomorrow be any different?
There's a long history of Superman turning bad; there's a long history of Superman doing anything. Way back in 1964, he met Ultraman, a dastardly double from Earth-Three. The '90s brought a Terminator-ish super-doppelgänger, who pretended to be Superman before destroying fake Los Angeles. Hoechlin already played a different black-suited impostor in a 2018 CW crossover. There are multiverse scenarios where he's raised by Soviets, Nazis, or Darkseid. In the 2000s Justice League cartoon, another Superman executes his Lex Luthor, a defensible act that slippery-slopes into dystopic oppression.
Break one rule and you break them all: That's the implicit threat of Evil Superman, and the nasty thrill of Injustice, a videogame-comic saga where Lois Lane's death drives Superman superbad totalitarian. (Clark's son plays Injustice 2 on Superman & Lois.) In the classic 1986 tale "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" written by Alan Moore and drawn by Curt Swan, Kal-El retires from superheroism after taking a villain's life. "Nobody has the right to kill," he says, "Not Mxyzptlk, not you, not Superman... especially not Superman." Look past the outrageous impossibility of saying "Mxyzptlk" out loud, and it's one of the great quotes of comic book history. This Superman believes even a wholly justifiable homicide spoils his moral code. A generation later, that's where these stories begin.

Jondami Week day 7: Joint family vacation | Proposal | Free day
Summary
Damian just wants some alone time with Jon on the Kent-Wayne road trip.
“Are we there yet?”
“No.”
Five seconds later: “Are we there yet?”
“No.”
“What about now?”
“For the last time, Dick, we get there when we get there!”
“Tt, you are such a child, Grayson.”
“Damian, no insulting your siblings until we find a rest stop.”
The van, packed like sardines, rumbled along the dusty single-lane highway. There was nothing to see but sand and tumbleweeds for miles on end. The only other car on the road was another (more spacious) blue van driven by the Kent family.
Damian didn’t see the need for a joint family road trip. Bats and Supers already worked frequent missions together, plus they had the holidays, summer barbecues, Sunday brunches, shared Pride parade floats, and even Netflix accounts. The two families were so attached at the hip that Damian couldn’t recall a time where a member from one wasn’t accompanied by a member of the other. It’s as though they’d spontaneously combust if they spent over twenty-four hours apart. Mother and Grandfather would never approve of such inappropriate closeness.
That said, Mother and Grandfather aren’t here and Damian misses Jon like the desert they’re driving through misses the river. He unfolded the map where an information center employee had marked each rest stop, not particularly caring about keeping his elbow out of Tim’s face. The sooner they stop, the sooner he can see his beloved.
Tim yanked out his headphones. “B, Damian’s in my personal bubble again!”
“Quit whining, there’s no personal bubble here,” Jason said, laying across the aisle.
Bruce glared in the rearview mirror. “Jason Peter Todd, you get back in your seat and buckle your seat belt right this instant!”
“But—”
“Listen to your father, Jason,” Selina said. “Damian, sweetheart, can you pass me the map? The GPS isn’t getting any signal.”
Dick gestured to Duke. “What do you mean? We got a Signal right here.”
Everyone groaned. Damian handed the map over, but not without knocking Stephanie’s sunglasses askew and nearly giving Cass a paper cut in the eye. When he pulled his arm back, his elbow collided with Tim’s ribs.
“I call middle seat next time,” Tim said.
“I call trunk,” said Jason.
“No trunks,” Selina said. She pointed to the right. “There should be an exit in two miles.”
