[The 7th of August is Saint Duncan's Day, the patron saint of Frisland. He is known throughout the world for healing people, working miracles and travelling around the entirety of Frisland, but few know any more.
It is known that on the first ship from Ireland there were four saints: Duncan, Donald, Conall and Kieran. Together they all brought the Gospel to the Frislanders, but only Duncan is celebrated with a national holiday. Why?
Firstly Duncan travelled around Frisland his entire life. Indeed The others did travel at times themselves, but also founded monastic houses and became bishops: Donald at Doffais, Conall at Sanestol and Kieran at Kampa.
Secondly because of this travelling there are a greater number of legends about him. As with all saints there are tales of miracles as well as his good works for the people. Indeed, if you we to visit anywhere in Frisland yourself, in every village you would find another story.
At Gaiaf in Ocibar county it is said to have revived the parched fields by means of a miracle where he buried a chalice under a wardstone to make a spring appear, and this spring is still there today. At Markercay in Campa county it is said that he cured the sores of lepers by giving them the Eucharist. At Balcsun in Bondendea county it is said that there was a great hunger in the village and the saint made a pot of bone broth that fed the village for an entire year.
Did these stories really happen? Perhaps you don't believe them. But they do suggest that Duncan indeed was a doctor. The many stories about lepers are why in the Catholic Church he is the patron saint of lepers and leper hospitals: indeed it is no surprise that today is a good day for charities. He also patronises itinerants, sheepdogs, travellers on the sea and all Frisland.
If you are not Catholic, today is still a holiday and we encourage everyone that you would mark the day: with travel and acts of service.
We at the embassy wish you a happy St Duncan's Day.]

Also:
Don‘t give up!
