My confession is that the reason I felt compelled to poke at kh d*rk road at all this past week is because at some point my brain took several of the bits it knew third-hand about the game, pulled out several things it remembered about Xehanort and Eraqus from bbs, and said "well like, what would I think their past would be like?" and spun off a whole fucking thought train about it without my permission. Just in case you were wondering.

sorry it took so long for me to answer this (it's been like two weeks or something, I know) but yes ABSOLUTELY I can share some behind the scenes stuff for these!

(some of this is probably a little bit of a repeat of some of the end notes, but here goes)

so let's start with Maybe Some Things Are That Simple

first of all, "how did you know you weren't… gender?" is still the best line of dialogue I've written in my entire life. iirc it was also the very first line I wrote for this fic, and I wrote most of that conversation between Sora and Xion before I wrote a single line of narration (which ended up working out so well for me that I do that most of the time now)

this is also probably the fic that's had the most lines edited or rewritten of anything I've posted, and that's almost entirely from trying to write a significant part of the fic without using any pronouns for Sora. I don't think any sentence of narration past the final use of he/him for Sora is worded the same way it was originally written. it was trickier than I expected in a couple places, but I really think it's what the fic needed and for the most part I think I pulled it off

I did end up removing two parts of this fic. the first one was a part of the conversation between Sora and Xion that I think I'll be able to reuse in another trans girl Sora fic. the second one was the start of a scene that would've taken place after the clock tower outing, but it would've taken away from the fic to have it continue past the point where it currently ends, so I ultimately didn't include it. I still want to go back and finish it someday, and maybe I'll upload it as a second chapter or something, but no promises

Wish I Could Prove I Love You didn't have any sort of planning or outlining for it; in fact, I didn't even set out to write a fic at all. it just kind of… happened

when I started what eventually became WICPILY it was just an exercise to try to break through some writer's block by writing something very different from anything I'd done before. (I think it worked, since I ended up writing half the fic in a single evening.) I hadn't planned on posting it at all but then I realized it wouldn't take much to make it into a single cohesive fic and also that I was actually pretty proud of it. and that's about it. it's literally just a writing exercise that got out of hand

and while Introspection is more of a Xion and gender fic with Sora in it as opposed to a Sora and Xion and gender fic, I'm mentioning it anyway just because it's the first nonbinary Xion fic I wrote and it's at least partially responsible for the other ones

it's also one of the fastest fics I've ever written; I wrote most of it in the space of a few hours, starting at about 1am one night

People joke about the kids in KH1 apparently planning to make a sea voyage on a tiny raft with like 3 fish and a coconut for rations but tbh I always assumed that it was just pretend and they knew all it. Like had their plan actually come to fruition they would have just floated 30 feet from the shore for about 20 minutes until Kairi capsized the whole thing as a joke and then they’d all swim back to the beach. Hence why Sora and Kairi are like “uhhh dude??” when Riku suddenly starts taking it seriously
