It’s been years and I’m still not over the switch between “rests on the shoulders of a young boy” to “rests on the shoulders of a young man,” and I doubt I ever will be

bbc merlin - 03x02 The Tears of Uther Pendragon II
i've said it once and i will say it again: the kindness in this show is as hated as magic. it's the parallel. it is the kindness in these characters that sets everything alight, the same fire that often follows those who use magic, haunting them. you can argue about rights and wrongs, but this is what it always ultimately comes back to. it's merlin's kindness that keeps him from blindly following fate. it's morgana's kindness that first allows her to taste that hatred, the one that's gonna settle deep within every inch of her softness. it's kindness that makes them fight and kindness that holds them back. it's the prayer and the song of the executioner. all of it, and i mean all of it, can be and is attributed to magic too. it's one in the same. it's love and it's hate. the dark and the light. the poison and the cure. it's everything.

AITA for manipulating a young warlock into moving fate towards my design, therefore trapping him into an inescapable and tragic destiny?
Years ago I (M1000) felt the presence of a warlock (M28) enter the kingdom of Camelot. I called to him in his mind and he found me, and long story short I ended up being the one he came to for advice.
My friends think I was in the wrong because I knew about all the details of his destiny and didn’t tell him (for context he is the greatest wizard to ever walk the earth) but I think I was justified because I was trapped under the castle for 20 years and needed him to get me out.
I did tell him really vague answers to everything he asked so that he’d do what I wanted, but I know what’s best because I’m a 1000 year old dragon and he’s just some guy who was rude to me once. Am I the asshole?

One af the most tragic things about the plot of Merlin is that if he had completely chosen either his own instincts or the prophecies it probably could have ended relatively well.
Like, if he had trusted himself, Morgana would have had a support network, he could have been there for Mordred more without the constant suspicion hindering him, and that would have prevented so many issues. Also everyone's mental health would be so much better, o my god.
If he had completely trusted the prophecies Morgana and Mordred would be dead, and Merlin would probably never forgive himself or be free of guilt ever again, but Arthur probably would have lived and there would be a path to a better future for them.
But instead all these problems were left to fester under the surface, because Kilgarrah and Gaius made him to scared to reach out and solve things the emotionally mature way, but hus own conscience prevented him from solving his problems with some good old-fashioned murder.

Rmbr that old headcanon that Kilgarrah was transfigured into a bitch ass cat and Merlin decided to put up with his annoying ass for centuries so that he wouldn't go mad? Yeah me too
.... I realized the horrible implications that come from Merlin existing in the same universe as Hogwarts so I googled it and it says he was a slytherin student who "went on to do great things" guys that means that Hogwarts was founded BEFORE the prophecy came to fruition which doesn't work with BBC Merlin's plot/timeliness at alllll
In order to fit my hc's I'm gonna say he made himself look young with potions in order to study after Arthur died or maybe he just started doing magic w/o speaking and people were so impressed that they gave him a job!
My personal fav take is that he is a gay uncle but in a depressed hippie kinda way

can’t believe kilgarrah had to intervene with merlin and arthur’s petty feud like a teacher on the playground. this dragon has been waiting centuries to pass on this prophecy and to do it he has to be the mediator in teenage drama. literally told the most powerful sorcerer of all time to make nice with the once and future king. kilgarrah deserves a nobel prize
