Rosebud
Tumblr media
🌹 Summary: You come home from a long and exhausting day of work to spend time with your family: your 6 year old daughter and your husband, Kim Geonhak.
🌹 Word Count: 2,115 words
🌹 Pairing: Reader x Kim Geonhak (Leedo) / Characters: GenderNeutral!Reader, Parent!Reader; Kim Geonhak (Leedo); Kim Hwayoung (OC) {Age: 6};
🌹 Rated: E / Warnings: Food (Ice cream) / Genre: Fluff; Parent!Reader!; Dad!Geonhak;
🌹 A/N: 'Neny', the term used in the fic to refer to the Reader, is mom in Malagasy, but it's gender neutral here ok? I couldn’t find a good Gender Neutral title, but if I find something better I might change it. Also, in this, Geonhak is still an idol and a member of ONEUS, but they're a bit older? Idk, he's still Leedo of ONEUS but also a dad. Who needs timelines anyways? Might make this into a series, who knows?
Tumblr media
You sigh, your back sore from a long, tiring day of work. You've been standing all day for work, talking to people you wish you didn't have to talk to. You wish you were home, lying in bed with your family, but you still have a few minutes until your bus reaches the stop near home.
When the bus finally comes to a stop, you dismount and make your way into your apartment. You unlock the door, and hear laughter inside. You smile to yourself and open the door, and are met with the beautiful sight of your husband, Geonhak, dressed in a nice, casual outfit--jeans, a T-shirt and glasses--with your 6 year old daughter laughing, sitting on his shoulders, holding his hands tight. He must have changed after work, before he went to pick up Hwayoung.
You smile brightly. Work is hard as heck, and your day was exhausting as hell. Coming home to your husband and your daughter is always the highlight of your day, and today is no different.
"Hello, my love," Geonhak says, grinning widely. "How was work?"
"Hi honey," you say, walking over to kiss him on the cheek. "It was tiring, as usual." You then stand on your tip-toes while Geonhak bends down a bit so you can kiss your daughter on the cheek. "Hi Hwayoung. How was school?"
"Hi Neny! It was gooooood," Hwayoung says. "We did reading and drawing! I wanna show you my drawing that I drawed! And then when Dada picked me up from achool, he said when you got home, we could all go out for ice cream together and to the park!"
"Oh really?" You can't stop yourself from smiling so widely that your cheeks hurt, and honestly you don't want to not smile. You haven't smiled a lot today, so this is a nice breath of fresh air.
"Alright, Hwayoung, down time," Geonhak says, looking up and reaching up to put his hands on her in preparation to lift her off of his shoulders. "Don't you wanna show Neny your drawing?"
"Yeah, but don't wanna get down. Pleeease?" Hwayoung whines, pouting down at him, and you can see Geonhak give up, cracking a smile. He's never a match for you or Hwayoung's pouts. Or yours.
"Alright, rosebud, you can stay up there. Let's have you show Neny what you made, okay?"
"Okaaaaaay!!!” Hwayoung sings. “Neny, it’s in my room! Let’s go!!!" She points forward, and Geonhak starts walking quickly, while you follow. You can see, from his smile and the joy in your husband’s eyes, just how happy he is. As you follow him to Hwayoung's bedroom, which is right next to yours, Geonhak ducks down so Hwayoung doesn't hit her head at the top of the doorframe. She giggles as he does, and looks back at you to make sure you're following them into her room.
"Look, Neny!" Hwayoung points at her tiny table from her seat on Geonhak's shoulders. You look down at the drawing, a cute scribble of a happy family of three--you, Geonhak, and Hwayoung herself, her dark hair tied up in two pigtails.
"Hwayoung, my rosebud, this is so good!" you say. "Amazing job, rosebud, well done!" You raise your hand up and ruffle her hair, smiling first at her, then Geonhak.
"Thank you, Neny!!!" She giggles, beaming. "I knew you'd like it! Dada said you would."
"Well Dada was right! I love it, rosebud!" You stand on your tip-toes and Geonhak bends his knees so that you can then press a kiss to Hwayoung's temple. "Alright, let's go get ice cream and go to the park, okay?"
"Yayyy!!!"
You raise your eyebrow at Geonhak, and see that he's grinning so widely, eyes up toward Hwayoung. Your little rosebud.
Tumblr media
"Strawberry ice cream, please!" Hwayoung says to the worker of the ice cream parlor. "One scoop please!" she says, holding up one finger. They nod and scoop the ice cream into a cone, and hand it to Hwayoung as Geonhak pays.
"Ready to eat your ice cream, Hwayoung?" you ask. She nods excitedly, licking her lips in anticipation as she stares at the ice cream cone in her hand.
"Alright, done," Geonhak says, a cone of rainbow sherbet ice cream in his hand. "Ready to get walking to the park?"
"Yeah!!!"
"Hwayoung, ice cream's dripping," you say, pointing at the cone. She quickly licks around the top of the cone, catching the ice cream drips. "There you go, rosebud. Can I have a lick?"
"Mmhmm!" Hwayoung raises up her ice cream for you to lick a bit of her ice cream from her cone. "D'you like it?"
"Mmm, yummy. Good choice, rosebud," you hum, reaching up and ruffling her hair.
"Thank you, Neny!"
"Do you want some of mine?" Geonhak asks you, offering you his ice cream cone.
"No thank you, baby." You shake your head and he scrunches his eyebrows and pouts at you.
Hwayoung tugs at Geonhak's hand, and he looks down at her. "Dada, can I ride while we walk?" she asks.
"Alright, rosebud. Y/N, my love, can you hold this for me?" Geonhak asks, and you take his ice cream from his hand.
"Yayyyyyy!!!!!!" Hwayoung hands you her ice cream as well, and Geonhak squats down and lets Hwayoung clamber up his back and onto her seat on his shoulders. You then hand her her ice cream, and she starts licking it wwith her free hand, using the other to stay up on her dad's shoulders.
"Don't drip any of the ice cream onto me, okay Hwayoung?" Geonhak says, laughing. "My love, can I have my ice cream back?"
You quickly lick some of his rainbow sherbet ice cream and his eyes widen.
"Ya! Earlier when I offered, you said no!" he scolds, and you giggle. You and him tease and mess with each other like this all the time
"I changed my mind," you hum, winking and grinning as you hand him his ice cream back. Before he can say anything, you plant a kiss on his cheek. "Love you, baby."
He can't hide his smile, or the way his cheeks get a bit rosy from the kiss.
"Dada, say I love you back!" Hwayoung says, kicking her feet a little bit on his shoulders.
"I love you, my love," Geonhak says to you, his smile soft. "I love you too, Hwayoung."
"Love you too, Dada!!!"
You smile, so content and happy at the sight. Your daughter perched up on her dad, your husband, Geonhak's shoulders. The two of them grinning happily, both with an ice cream cone in hand. Geonhak scrunches his nose and raises his free hand to adjust his glasses. You're so happy with your little family.
The three of you head to the park, Hwayoung giggling from her spot. She finished her ice cream cone within ten minutes. Geonhak, however, only managed to get halfway through his ice cream cone before letting you finish it off.
"You finished your ice cream?" Geonhak asks Hwayoung, holding her legs to keep her steady on his shoulders.
"Yeah," Hwayoung says. "Sticky fingers!"
"Alright, down time for a second," Geonhak says, reaching up to grab her. You see Hwayoung is about to pout when he continues. "Don't worry, rosebud, you'll get to be tall again. I just need to wash your face and hands."
"Mmkayyy!!!"
Geonhak squats down so that Hwayoung can hop off of his back. He brings her off to the side of the sidewalk and pulls out a pack of wipes to clean off the ice cream at the corners of her mouth.
"Sti-cky hands," she sings to herself, and Geonhak laughs gently. "I got sti-cky hands!"
"You do, rosebud," Geonhak says, wiping at her cheeks. "Done with your cute cheeks, Hwayoung. Now I'm gonna un-sticky your fingers. Hand." Geonhak holds out his hand, and Hwayoung gives him her hands to wipe them clean.
"Thank you Dada," she says loudly, grinning widely as Geonhak throws away the wipes in a nearby bin.
"Of course, rosebud. Up?" he asks, bending down.
"Up!" Hwayoung climbs up Geonhak's back and back onto her spot on Geonhak's shoulders. "I'm so tall!" Hwayoung yells, throwing her arms up, and you smile up at her. Geonhak holds her feet to keep her steady.
"Yes, my little rosebud, you are," Geonhak says fondly, and you can feel your heart melt. He looks so content and happy and satisfied.
Tumblr media
When you arrive home, you start winding down for the day. Today is your turn to cook dinner, and though Geonhak offered to cook instead--"You had a tiring day at work today, my Love, I don't mind," he had said--you declined and insisted on cooking.
As you cook the rice, you're able to listen to and watch Geonhak as he helps Hwayoung with reading a book to practice reading. He has her sitting on her lap, and she tries to read aloud, and he gently corrects her pronunciation of the hard words.
You smile to yourself. They're so cute together. Geonhak has always loved to coddle Hwayoung since she was first born. He loves her--and you, the whole little family--with his whole heart, and you can see it in every smile he gives you or her.
Geonhak always wanted to have a kid or two, and when Hwayoung was first born, when he first laid eyes on her, he cried even more than you did. He was so happy to first meet his daughter. As Hwayoung grew older throughout the years, Geonhak only grew happier.
After you finish making dinner, you call Hwayoung and Geonhak over to eat. Hwayoung excitedly jumps out of Geonhak's arms and runs over to help you set the table, while Geonhak comes over to stand next to you. He presses a gentle kiss to your cheek.
"What are you thinking about, my love?"
You sigh. "How much I love you and Hwayoung. Our happy little family," you murmur.
He grins and wraps his arm around you. "I love our happy little family, too." He leans forward to press a kiss when he's interrupted by Hwayoung saying--
"Ewwwwww!!! Neny and Dada, no kissing before dinner!!!" she says, sticking out her tongue and scrunching her eyes closed. You grin at Geonhak and he wrinkles his nose at you.
"Go help Hwayoung set up the table, I'll serve up portions on plates," you say, pushing Geonhak away. He blows a quick kiss to you before going to Hwayoung to help her set the table.
Tumblr media
"Goodnight, Hwayoung," you say, tucking your daughter beneath her covers. Geonhak stand behind you, waiting for his turn to say goodnight to Hwayoung. He usually goes last because he always takes the longest to say goodnight to her. You press a kiss to her forehead and her nose.
"Goodnight, Neny," Hwayoung says.
"Sweet dreams, mmkay?" you say, poking her nose. She giggles and grins as you stand up and steps away so that Geonhak can kneel down next to the bed in your place.
"Hwayoung, my little rosebud," he says. He picks up her stuffed fox toy, Tamarack, which lays next to her, and touches its nose to hers, before handing it to her. "Tamarack will protect you from the bed bugs and the monster under your bed tonight."
"Mmhmm!!!"
"Goodnight, my rosebud," Geonhak says. "Sweet dreams, dream of . . ." He pauses to consider. "Ice cream. Strawberry ice cream with chocolate drizzle. And Tamarack. And dance parties! Dance parties with your uncles."
"Yes, Dada," Hwayoung says. He presses a kiss to her forehead, and walks with you to the door. "Goodnight Neny! Goodnight Dada!"
You close her door and smile to yourself.
"It's bedtime for us, too," Geonhak says, taking your hand. "I have a schedule tomorrow, and you have work early in the morning."
You nod and cringe. "Yeah . . . work. As Hwayoung would say, 'Ewwwwww!'" You make a disgusted face at the word and Geonhak laughs, leading you by the hand to your shared bedroom.
"I love you, Y/Nie."
"And I love you, Geonhak."
You and Geonhak get ready for bed and climb beneath the covers to get to sleep. You notice Geonhak is staring at you, smiling, and you raise your eyebrows at him.
"What're you smiling at, Hak?" you ask. He closes his eyes and wrinkles his nose a bit, smiling contently.
"You two are my whole world, Y/Nie," Geonhak says. "You and Hwayoung. You're my whole world, and nothing can replace you two. I love you, Y/N."
You lean forward and kiss the tip of his nose. "I love you too, Geonhak. Sleep. Work tomorrow."
He hums and wraps his arms around you. "Goodnight, my love," he says, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

One at a Time
Tumblr media
Characters: Leedo x Reader Genre: Drama
Description: Where you're trying to get him on dates with you but he rejects every single one of it.
"Leedo, please.", you said as you caught his wrist but Leedo ignored you as he tries to pull his wrist away.
"No. I'm not doing it.", he replied, looking away. Honestly, he was a little bit pissed off. Both you and Leedo visited Lotte World because— let's be honest, you tricked him.
"I told you, I don't do dates.", he said coldly. Your heart dropped, a little bit disappointed because he was actually against it but even if you were being honest with him, you are completely sure that he will reject your offer, again.
Apparently, you made a deal with him. You were well aware of his situation, trust issues and a few resentments he had but trying will not hurt, right?
Trying to be friend with him was quite hard too because he was cold. He would always ignore you but giving up is not your first name. When you learn his hobby is working out, you often bought things he need to the gym. Thanks to your hard works, he finally talking to you but he would not call you as his friend. Not yet.
"But you agreed yesterday.", you whines as you tailed him from behind. "Hey, shut up. I don't think you're in the place to speak right now.", he replied, obviously pissed because you tricked him. "Don't you think this is too much?", he asked.
"You agreed with eight dates but you rejected it five times and I don't have a lot of chance now.", you were sulking but trying your best to hide it because you knew he hates it.
"Take a hint will you?", he said. "That means, I am not interested.", he added, walking away before you could even reply. Quickly, you ran after him. "Okay, fine, fine. Here take this.", you pulled out the tickets out from your bag and put it his palm.
"You can go in alone or with Seoho.", you said and walked away.
Leedo was lost. He looked at those tickets before his eyes trailed after you. "What am I going to do with Seoho? Stand there?", he mumbled alone.
"Leedo let's eat—"
"No thanks.", he cut you off even before you could finish you sentence. You rolled your eyes before following him to the studio without even saying anything anymore. As soon as you reach his own studio room for the day he stopped you. "Find another room, I'm busy.", he said before closing the door right in front of face.
"Alright! Aye you're such a petty man.", you grumbled as you opened the door next to him.
Leedo and you were in the music department majoring in song composition. Students were welcome to use their facilities in the department and one of them are personal music studio where it could fit one to three people. Sometimes, Leedo would asked your opinion about his songs and you gave your honest opinion about it. Does not mean, you like him you would sugar coat things that were not suppose to.
It has been more than six hours you locked yourself in the studio and you were almost finished with the song, just a little bit ad-libs and you are good to go but you're just lazy and tired. You saved everything before shutting down the computer and unlocked the door. You went to the next door and knocked it, of course no answer. You try to open it but it was locked.
"What is he doing?", you keep banging on the door and the door finally opened, revealing the most offended human being in this department. His eyes were half closed and his hair was messy. The computer was still on but the room were a little dim.
"Amazing, Leedo. You're unbelievable. Didn't you say you were busy?", you raised your eyebrows.
"Did you actually sleep?", you added before poking your head inside of his studio room. "Smells like a man here."
"What do you think I am? A dog?", he said as he light up the room. "Go, I'm busy.", he said. Before he could shut the door again, your hand hold it and quickly went inside and went straight to the computer. Leedo scoffed, speechless with your action. You were amazed by the layers he did in his song.
"Hey, let's have some pizza.", you quickly said, eyes were still on the computer.
"No."
"Oh, come on.", you begged.
"I said no.", he sternly replied and put his hoodie back on.
"Well, it's your lost then.", you shrugged and walked out from the studio room, going straight home.
As soon as you get to your apartment, you put the present you bought for him for his birthday. Tomorrow is his birthday and you bought him a popular cologne and you hope he likes it. Honestly, you think the smells really suit him. That's why you bought it.
You could not find Leedo since the morning. Could he possibly avoid you on purpose again? He always did it, it was no longer a surprise for you. As much as you want to feel offend by his action but he is Leedo.
You shrugs and went to the music department and straight to the studio room where he always been. Before you could knock, you saw the gap between the door.
It's not close? You thought. You peek inside, seeing Seoho and Keonhee were inside with Leedo. Right then, you heard Leedo's voice. You were about to knock but stopped.
"She was just annoying. I don't know if she was slow or just stupid to take a hint.", Leedo said and you know he straight up talking about you. Who else could be more annoying than you? None.
You could not say anything and you could not move either. You stood there like a mannequin, trying to process everything that you have heard.
"She tricked me to go on a date with her. Is she even real?", he added. "She even gave me a lot of stuffs. What am I suppose to do?"
You could not hear anything anymore and whatever he said after that did not get into you. Then, you heard the door closed and someone stood in front you. Slowly, you looked up and your eyes met Keonhee's surprise expression. He blinked and was about to open the door but you quickly stopped him.
"Oh my god.", he gasped. "I don't know what you heard but—"
"Stop it. I heard it, Keonhee.", you said, looking down while trying your best to hide your sad expression. Then, you remembered the gift you bought yesterday. You gave it to Keonhee. "You can take this.", you paused. "...and please don't tell him about this."
Keonhee hesitantly took the gift and looked at you with worried eyes.
For the rest of the week, you did not speak with Leedo. Everyone were surprise because you were practically glued next to him and you would go wherever he went. Leedo too, was puzzled with your sudden changed. He wanted to approach you and asked if you have any problems but he did not.
Today, they got a group of two assignment assigned for them and since everyone already have their partners it only left you with Leedo. You rolled your eyes, annoyed at the fact that you had to face him again. "So...", he paused. "We're a team now.", he continued. You nods and walked out from the class.
"Hey, wait up. We need to discuss about the project.", he said.
"Let's discuss now, then.", you replied and went back to your seat.
"Not at the studio room?", Leedo asked, a bit confuse.
"Hurry up, I'm busy.", you said, not looking at him as you took out your note book.
Leedo shrugs as he took a seat next to you. Both of you discuss on what kind of genre—well, mostly Leedo. You were just agreeing to whatever he was saying not even pay attention to him like you always do.
"Are you okay?", he asked.
You nods, "Why wouldn't I?". Leedo knew something did happen but he does not really what exactly happen to you.
As soon as the discussion finished, you told him what you're going to do so that both of you would have one less burdens. Leedo was hesitate but agreed to it anyways because you were suppose to do it together.
It's been a few days since the discussion day and Leedo was finishing up the song song he made with you when he heard the knock on his bedroom door. "Come in.", and there is Keonhee with a gift in his hand. "What's that?", Leedo asked.
"I think, I need to tell you something.", Keonhee began.
The next day, Leedo tried to find you but you were no where to find. You were not coming to class either. So, he finally took an initiative to give you a call but you did not answer. He was about to go to your house but he does not know where did you live.
"I hope she will come tomorrow.", he whispered.
You does not feel like yourself today and it felt like you were losing your mind. Your head felt heavy and you could not smell anything. Slowly making your way to the studio room. You have lost count on how long have you been avoiding Leedo.
As soon as you get in the studio, you locked it and laid on the couch. Your head were still pounding like hell and you felt horrible. You were practically curse the doctor who only gave you a day break instead of a few days.
Unable to tolerate with the horrible headache, you took your medicines and quickly went into a deep sleep.
While you were sleeping soundly in the studio room, everyone in the department was running around. Panic are all over the department. The fire alarm broke as soon as one of the student in class smell something was burning. It happens too quick. The corridor were cramped with students who were trying to get out from their classes.
The corridor is now filled with smokes. All doors were opened, signs that everyone had ran out but Leedo realised that one particular door did not. He covered his nose with his sleeve as the smokes getting thicker and trying to open the door but not to avail. He bang on the door, shouting your name.
"Are you in there?", he shouted but no one replied.
There must be someone inside. He thought. Because the door could only be lock from inside. Quickly, he ran to the reception desk and took out a spare key. As he unlocked the door, he saw you laid on the couch, gasping for air.
He shouted your name and quickly carried you out from the room.
As soon as you both were on the assembly compound, the paramedic checked on your pulse as they release a relief sigh.
"She need oxygen.", the paramedic said. They quickly covered your nose and mouth with the respiratory masked. "Here. Cover her with the blanket too, she have a fever.", they gave Leedo a blanket and he quickly wrapped it around you. He hugged you too, to keep you warm.
You could not move, probably due to the headache and fever you had so you just let him do whatever he want. As much as you want to protest, you could not because being in his arms was already comfortable.
A few days later after you finally get a lot of rest and completely fine from your fever, both of you and Leedo were having a serious talk. Apparently, it was a misunderstanding. You actually did not hear everything and you agreed that you should confront him about it but knowing him he was not the type who would explain things. Think whatever you want. That's what he always used to say.
Now your misunderstanding has been solved and you both went back to normal.
"So Leedo.", you paused. "Let's go watch a movie. The new horror movie is out.", you said, not really expecting him to agree.
"Sure.", he said.
"Fine. Of course you would say—", you paused and looked at him. "What did you just say?", you asked him again. You hope you were not hearing things.
"I said sure."
"For real?", he nods. It was unbelievable. Leedo finally agreed to go on a date.
"But.", he paused. "You bought the gift for me, why did did you give it to Keonhee?", he added. Before you could answer him, he asked something again.
"Why eight dates though? I could be more than that.", he was puzzled.
"That.", you grinned. "I. L. O. V. E. Y. O. U. It's eight of them.", you smiles.

Leedo | One Day at a Time [M]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oneus - Leedo x fem. reader
Angst, smut
Warning: NSFW
Words: ~1.5k
Lately not a single day has passed where you and your boyfriend Gunhak haven’t fought or ignored each other. Living with him is getting tough, but as you realize, living without him is even tougher.
Tumblr media
You wake up from a dreamless sleep. The sun is seeping in from the curtains, telling you you slept in well past when you should’ve gotten up. You feel the hard, cold floor through the mattress as you turn around and pull the sheets over your head, refusing to get up.
“What’s up with you, Y/N?” you hear your best friend Nari say, surprising you because you thought she wasn’t in her room. “This is the third time today that you’re going back to sleep. Don’t you think you rested enough?” You shake your head, which she obviously can’t see, since you’re well hidden under the blanket.
“I don’t want to…” you grumble. You feel her sit down beside you on the floor, putting a hand on where your shoulder is.
“You can’t stay like this forever,” she says. “You can’t avoid him forever.”
“Yes I can!” you protest. “And it’s his fault anyway! Why can’t he just understand me for once?” Your friend sighs.
“I know this is kind of an unpopular opinion,” Nari says, “but maybe you should try to offer him what you ask for as well?” You snort.
“Like what? It’s his fault!”
Nari gets up and sighs. “You might as well break up with him at this rate…” she mumbles before she adds, “Come downstairs if you want breakfast! The food my mom made is still fresh.” And with that she leaves you and your thoughts alone.
You might as well break up with him. You don’t like the sound of that. In fact, you don’t like any part about that sentence. Because for the first time you realize what it could mean if you and Gunhak keep this behaviour going. You realize that your best friend is right.
You put the key in the lock of your shared apartment carefully, silently praying that Gunhak isn’t home. And upon opening the door you can see that the lights are off in the living room and kitchen area, and you let out a sigh of relief. You step inside, kick off your shoes, and place your bags down. Nervously, you tiptoe towards the bedroom to get a new change of clothes. You’re not planning on staying here. You’d rather keep escaping a little longer, and you know that even though Nari keeps scolding you for your behaviour, she would also never deny you a helping hand. However, your flat is constructed in a way that the bathroom and bedroom doors are right opposite each other, and as you’re about to open the latter, you hear noise in the bathroom and that door opens instead.
“Oh, I didn’t know you were home,” Gunhak comments, his voice more silent than usual. Steam is emitted from the room behind him and he isn’t wearing a shirt with his hair wet, telling you he must’ve just taken a shower. You gulp at the sight, and a wave of all kinds of emotions bubbles up inside of you. You are still angry at him, but at the same time you haven’t seen him in days. You haven’t touched him in so long, and the last few kisses you shared were just habitually, and you barely remember what they felt like. Nari’s words resound in your ears and you suddenly don’t know what to do, so you decide to retreat first of all.
“I’m just getting some stuff…” you explain, pointing at the bedroom door. When you’re turning on your heels, you feel his warm hand taking a hold of your arm.
“No, wait.” You stop in your tracks, but you don’t look at him. “Y/N, we can’t go on like this,” he states. The pain in his voice hits you more than you thought it would, and you fight your tears. “I did and said a lot of things that weren’t okay in the past few weeks,” he continues talking. “And I know I hurt you a lot with all that. I can’t repair the damage I’ve done with simple words, but I want you to know that I’m really so-” You turn around and kiss him, teeth clashing together, and you hold onto his bare arms, digging your nails into his skin. You pour all your mixed feelings that have accumulated over the past weeks into that one kiss, with one single thing as the main driving force: You missed him so much that you didn’t even know how much you want him right now. And the fact that he isn’t rejecting you despite all that happened touches you deeply. Instead, he puts his hands on your waist and pulls you closer, giving in to your kiss completely. You part for air and before he can say anything, you speak up.
“Don’t say sorry! I don’t want to hear your apologies. What about all the shit I said? What about how shitty I treated you?!” you yell back. Saying those things feels liberating in some way. “I kept walking away when you tried to sort out things,” you keep yelling. “I’m s-” This time it’s him who kisses you. His lips meet yours in a softer way, but his kiss isn’t any less passionate than yours, just not as sloppy. He pulls you into the bathroom with him, closing the door behind you and pushing you against it. He lifts your arms above your head, and you have no chance to escape under his strong hold - not that you were trying to. You let out a moan as he buries his head in your neck, biting and nibbling on your skin to leave his mark.
“I’m just trying to say-” you attempt to speak, but he bites down harder as a way to tell you to shut up for a moment. Leaving your arms above your head even as he loosens the grip on your wrists, his hands trail down your body, starting to roam under your shirt, and you feel yourself getting goose bumps all over. His lips find its way back to yours when he’s satisfied with the hickey he left in your neck, and through all the pleasure and excitement of finally being back in his arms, you almost don’t feel it throbbing.
It doesn’t take long until he hurriedly takes off your and his clothes and soon you both find yourselves under the hot shower, arms wrapped around each other, and the taste of water in your open mouthed kisses. Between calling each other’s names and whispered I love you’s, he pushes you against the shower wall, holding onto you so you don’t slip. When he’s sure you’re stable enough and your arms are placed around his shoulders for support, his hands start restlessly wandering your body, finally finding their way to between your legs. You throw your head back and moan from the feeling rushing through your body, and your pelvis starts moving along according to his touch almost automatically.
“I’m sorry, I can’t wait any longer,” he groans, moving from pleasuring you to giving himself a few pumps.
“Then don’t,” you throw back at him, and the bat of an eye later he picks you up by your thighs and you wrap your legs around him as he pushes into you, leaving both of you unable to hold back your voices. Attaching his lips to your neck and collarbones, his pace becomes gradually faster. Feeling how hungry he is for you sends you a little closer to the edge yet, and you claw into the skin on his shoulders when you cum, moaning his name over and over again, and he too releases inside of you.
As your breathing returns to a normal pace he lets you down, but still holds you tight, and you too keep your arms loosely wrapped around his upper body, or your shaky legs would’ve given out on you.
“Can I say it now?” he asks, running his fingers through your half wet hair slowly.
“Say what?”
“That I’m sorry.”
“You just did…” you remark. “And I’m sorry too. I didn’t see that I was in the wrong as well because of my pride, and I hurt you with that. I am really, really sorry, Gunhakie.” As tears well up in your eyes, you bury your face in his chest.
“Let’s work on ourselves,” he suggests and you nod.
“I want to become a better person for you,” you add.
“I feel the same way. I don’t want to keep hurting you,” Gunhak says. “Let’s try to fix all that we broke. One day at a time.”
7 days in Disneyland | Oneus (ot6)
Pairing: Reader, RAVN, Leedo, Seoho, Keonhee, Hwanwoong and Xion.
Description: Y/N wanted to meet Oneus for the first time, but when she come up with the perfect gift to give, Xion stole it before she could give it to others.
Word count: 2.3k (2342)
Tumblr media
It was summer vacation, and I was 18 years old. I wanted to travel all around the world, but I didn't had enough time, so I decided to meet my favourite idols. Oneus.
In a few days, I was in South Korea and it was so beautiful that I forgot to think why I was here in the first place.
---------------------------------------------------
I was in my hotel with my phone in my hand looking for a special and beautiful gift to give to all the members, but I couldn't find it.
I spend hours and hours trying to look for the special gift, but it was no use, I just simply couldn't find something that all the members would like, something in common.
And to answer my question RAVN was making a Vlive. I listened with my phone on Google to try again, while he was speaking in my headphones. It took 30 minutes to find the perfect gift.
RAVN was speaking about how to be close to oneus, and every member and I listened closely and took some notes.
It was every member, but I wanted a gift in common, and when I was about to close the Vlive, at that time RAVN was saying:
"If you want to be close with all the members instantly, buy a ticket to Disneyland."
After he said that, my fingers were typing on their own. "Tickets to Disneyland". And I ended up buying 7 tickets, for all members plus one for me.
---------------------------------------------------
After 3 days I was with the tickets in my hand. I was so happy to have those tickets, that when I got them I was taking my shoes to go to RBW.
---------------------------------------------------
After some time I was in front of the RBW with the tickets in my hand and before entering I looked at the building.
It was huge, I said to myself. Hope I wouldn't get lost and I took a deep breath to calm myself.
And with confidence, I was entering the RBW building. But my hopes went down when the security guy stopped me.
"Miss, visitors can't enter right now, if you want to see the artists you must go to concerts or the fan meetings."
"But... I wanted to...", my words wouldn't come out so easily, I didn't know it was so hard to speak a foreign language. But I didn't give up.
I almost said what I was going to do when Xion was passing by the security guy and me, and an idea came to me. When Xion was about to leave the building I pointed at him and said:
"Sorry, but I wanted to give the gift to Xion."
The security guy was looking confused at me, and Xion when he heard his name he turned his head to take a look at me with his eyes growing bigger and bigger.
He was pointing to himself and said:
"Me?"
I didn't know how to respond. My phone started ringing and I put my hand in my pocket to answer the call when I accidentally showed Xion the 7 tickets I was holding, and instantly something came like a lightning and took my tickets, all 7.
The next thing I knew was Xion with the 7 tickets in his hands singing with his happy voice jumping with joy.
"La la la la, the tickets are mine. La la la, Disneyland here I come. La la la."
I and the security guy didn't know what just happened and my phone started ringing again, but I declined it.
When I looked at the security guy, behind I saw RAVN and probably saw everything that just happened because he was saying:
"What just happened?"
"Xion took my tickets to Disneyland and began to leave the building.", I said looking where Xion was a few seconds ago.
"How many tickets were there?", asked the security guy looking in the same place as me.
"7, and he took all of them".
I could feel someone's gaze at me, looking at me confused when it was an awkward silence for maybe minutes, all looking confused where Xion was, and RAVN took me by my wrist and took me inside the building.
The security guy didn't say anything, because it was RAVN that dragged me inside the building. But soon we entered a room. The practice room.
RAVN took his hand off my wrist and began to explain what happened with Xion:
"Guys, Xion is just on his way to Disneyland. I wanted to give to Xion the money to buy the drinks we asked, and SHE", he looked at me pointing like I did something wrong. "SHE had the tickets and were 7."
"I didn't give it to HIM. He just took the tickets that were in my hand. I just wanted to pick up, to answer the call."
I was about to shout to RAVN for "accusing" me, of what happened when Seoho said, make me and RAVN shut up.
"Sooo, what he is gonna do with all 7 tickets, he can't use them."
"Right, it's impossible", I said approving with him.
"This could mean only one thing", said Hwanwoong. "That means that we will not see Xion a whole week."
All looked at Hwanwoong, but he had one point. I wanted to do something and I ended up making Xion leave for a whole week.
All the members were looking at me, making me feel uneasy, and to break the silence I said:
"Maybe... he has his phone with him, maybe he will pick up."
"That's a brilliant idea", said Keonhee.
"Yeah, he never leaves his phone, he always has his phone with him, no matter what", said Leedo with a thinking expression.
Keonhee took his phone and called Xion, and waiting for Xion to pick up, Keonhee was just looking blankly making a funny expression.
"Do you hear that guys?", said Keonhee while we were waiting for Xion's response.
"No", we said all except Keonhee at the same time.
Keonhee stood up and he was seriously listening to make sure where is coming from. We didn't hear anything and we all looked at Keonhee who just looked like an idiot.
A few seconds passed and Keonhee was with Xion's phone in his hand, showing us that Keonhee is still calling him.
"Great, now what do we do?", said Leedo, almost give up.
"We can wait", I said. Maybe that was the wrong words at that time because all were just looking at me like IT was my fault for all is happening. Maybe it was.
"She is right", said Hwanwoong. "We can maybe wait a week, maybe he will come back."
We didn't have a choice, after all, all we can do is just wait and hope it will be good.
The awkward silence was filling the room for minutes, and this made me feel uncomfortable, I wanted to leave, but I didn't want to be rude, leaving the members behind.
"Soooooo...... Can I go home?", I said with a whispering voice.
"Of course you can", said Keonhee.
Before leaving, I saw Seoho with his phone in his hand, so I instantly took his phone. Leaving my number in his contacts.
"If you found something, let me know".
Seoho didn't say anything he was just nodding, while everyone was looking at us.
And for real, I began to leave the practice room.
-------------------------------------------------
On my way home, I was still thinking about the incident, I wanted to leave a good impression of me to my idols, but instead, I made Xion disappear for a whole week, I think.
-------------------------------------------------
6 days had passed and I was left in the dark. I didn't know anything and I was starting to worry about him.
I wanted to go to Disneyland, but I got no more tickets. And for the second time, I ordered some tickets. 7 tickets just like the last time.
These tickets came in the next day.
-------------------------------------------------
Today was the 7th day that Xion had disappeared from our sight.
I was changing my clothes and took the shoes on my feet, going to RBW to make sure that he came home after a whole week.
-------------------------------------------------
This time I entered without hesitation, and the security guy let me in this time.
I was going to the practice room when I hear some talking coming from the practice room. The practice room where oneus was supposed to be.
I didn't want to interrupt, so I stayed just behind the door, listening carefully.
"Xion, why did do that. You could invite your hyungs with you.", from his voice it was Leedo.
"I wanted to have some fun and I wasn't thinking straight, soo I forgot about everything. You know how hard it is to constantly practice and work out. These days we barely had some time, I wanted to have fun."
Nobody said anything and, it was my chance for entering, so I entered everyone looking at me including Xion.
"Don't blame him, he is right", I said looking at Xion.
He was just looking at me, with funny sunglasses, with a crown on his head, some cotton candy in his hand and mickey mouse ears in another hand. It was like he had the time of his life.
"I got 7 tickets again, and now can I ask if you all want to come to Disneyland?"
Nobody said anything.
"But he used all my money", said RAVN. "He bought a room for 7 days, as close as possible to Disneyland, and I got no money. Explain this."
"I will give you the money you lost, just forget what happened. I wanted to make a good impression of me as a To Moon, but you all scolding Xion for no reason. He just wanted to be free, without thinking", I showed them the 7 tickets and RAVN was calming down, making me feel a bit better.
"Ok," said Seoho. "But without Xion".
"Whyyyyyyy, I wanted to go again, I want more.",
Xion right now it was like a baby, but Seoho didn't change his mind.
"You already went, this time is our turn", said Seoho again.
"But she has 7 tickets", said Xion shouting with all his lungs.
I took the tickets and Xion was about to steal them again from me, but this time my reflexes got better, so I dogged him.
"We will take someone else", said Hwanwoong. "Hmmmmm....", it took 5 minutes before he spoke again. "We can invite the boss, he is a hardworking person, he deserves to have some free time."
After he finished the sentence, he didn't wait for someone to respond or say something, because he left the room, and everyone just looking at each other without anyone saying anything.
It took 10 minutes, for Hwanwoong to come back with the boss behind him. He took my tickets that were in my hand and gave one to the boss saying:
"We know you work hard for this company, and you deserve some free time."
"I have some work to do right now, maybe we can go later?", said the boss with his eyes looking at Hwanwoong then everyone, except me.
"No. Today. Right now. You go with us, you will finish your work when we come back from Disneyland."
The boss didn't say anything in return, probably because Hwanwoong wouldn't change his mind for anything in the world. The boss let out a sigh and said:
"Ok, I will go with you."
After he said that Hwanwoong, was giving the tickets, to everyone except Xion. The boss looked at him confused and said:
"Why Xion, can't go with us?"
"He was already for 7 days", said RAVN giving Xion a death stare.
The boss didn't say anything it was just looking at Xion feeling sorry for him.
I went close to Xion, just to whisper in his ear.
"Don't be sad, I will buy one ticket just for you. You could come with us, but without anyone to know."
Immediately Xion's face went happier and happier and nodded. All he must do was just go to Disneyland without anyone noticing him.
-------------------------------------------------
We were all at Disneyland and when we arrived I saw Xion in the corner of my eye, and I almost gave him my ticket, but he rejected it and said:
"I was at Disneyland for 7 days, you can keep your ticket. Have fun, I already ride all the things and made all the things you possibly can do, so have fun. I will just wait for all of you to come back."
I looked at him, and he gave me the funny sunglasses and the crown. He only had the mickey mouse ears. I smiled at him and went to Disneyland.
I wasn't a super fan of riding, but all suggested going to the rollercoaster. And we went.
Everyone was sitting on the rollercoaster. Hwanwwong, Keonhee and the boss were in the first seats of the rollercoaster. RAVN, Leedo and Seoho were in the second seats and I was sitting alone.
When a familiar person had appeared. I knew I knew him from somewhere and when I realised who it was it was too late, and the rollercoaster began to move forward.
It was JYP, I never knew I wanted so bad to leave Disneyland so fast. He was wearing the mini mouse ears and some sunglasses.
I wanted to leave as soon as possible, I thought this nightmare will never end. And as we were about to end the ride I saw a camera that was just taking photos of the ones who ride.
-------------------------------------------------
When we get off the rollercoaster seats, we looked at the photos, and everyone was just looking where I was in the photo and began to laugh. Keonhee looked at me and he was saying:
"It seems you don't have so much luck today"
"You kidding me? I sat to JYP the only person I didn't want to see. Better it was if I gave my ticket to Xion."
TIME (ONEUS FANTASY AU)
AMBER'S POV
Once I got inside, the passage immediately shut. Sigh. Why does that always happen? Am I in a sort of horror movie? Cold wind brushed against my cheek caused me to shiver and snap back to reality.
I looked to my surroundings and everything is covered with thick snow while the sky is pale. "Winter?" It's very cold that I can barely move from my position. I hugged myself due to intense coldness. "Why didn't Xion tell me about this?" I started walking trying my best to ignore the freezing wind. "Thank goodness, I am wearing this black leather boots, my feet could've been stuck as soon as I stepped here!" I whispered triumphantly to myself. I can't find any other way except heading straight so I didn't bother to trouble myself.
I was walking and walking until it started to snow, I pulled my hoodie up to lessen the chance of me getting sick due to excessive coldness. I just keep walking as I lost track of time, maybe an hour or two had passed already... I wasn't able to notice that the road is quite bumpy. I slipped and fell down to the pile of snow and landed on my butt. "Ow, ow, not too cold! Ouch, it burns!" I looked up and saw a large, human-sized raven looking down at me with its clawed hand offered to me. I got startled and moved back from it. "Do you want my help or not?" I got more shocked when I heard him speak but regained my composure and took his hand, the feeling of his scaled skin and claw fingers are foreign which sent chills to my body. I thanked him for helping me and apologized for my behavior. "Have you broken some bones?" "Fortunately, I haven't, thank you for your concern." I hesitantly smiled to the large black bird from the crow family.
"By the way, my name is Ravn and don't be afraid, I don't bite." He suddenly turned into a human-like appearance. He has pretty eyes that compliments his other features well. "I'm Amber, I'm looking for the way out of here and was kinda lost, perhaps do you know any exits?" "I do, there's a town plaza nearby the castle, at the back of the castle is the Forest of the Lost which I had heard rumors of having an exit somewhere." "Can you help me go to that place?" "Sure. I'm heading there too. Just follow me." He smiled at me and pulled me beside him before we started walking.
"Do you live here?" I curiously asked him. "Yes." He replied briefly. "Uh, about earlier, why were you in that appearance?" "Oh, I'm sorry about that, it was too cold at that part of the land and was snowing heavily at the woods so I used my hybrid form to keep me warm." "Ah, I see. So I'm guessing you are not a human?" "Not really. I'm from the Human-Crow family, to be specific, the Ravens." "Woah, I think that's cool." "Well, I ain't gonna deny it." I looked up to him and he smiled cheekily. "Why did you choose to walk instead of flying?" "I'm still weak as of now and I cannot fly yet. I had just recovered from cold and fever." "What? Then you shouldn't be here, you could have just stayed home!" I got worried but he reassured me, "I was looking for a certain fruit to cure me, and fortunately I found it and ate it right away. I'm all good now." "You sure?" "Yeah. Don't worry."
We walked in comfortable silence and talked occasionally, it's very easy to make a conversation with him and it wasn't awkward, as if we had known each other for some time. We reached the seventeen o'clock as said on the huge clock in the middle of the plaza. It is not like any other clocks that are up to twelve only, instead, it is up to eighteen. It was really weird. "I'm going to buy dry ingredients at the market. Is it okay for you to wait a bit?" "No problem, I am looking for a botique, is it possible to find it here?" "Yup, are you going to buy clothes for you? Do you have money, I can lend you some if you want." "Don't worry, I have some with me besides I can't stand the coldness wearing these clothes." I sighed and shook my head earning a chuckle from him. "Yeah, yeah, I'll take you there after I buy the ingredients, is it okay?" "It's okay, I don't mind waiting." I smiled at him.
Ravn told me to change my clothes in the bathroom. I thought there isn't enough water for them since it's currently winter but I was wrong. The pump has lots of water. Ravn even heated water for me incase I wanted to take a quick bath. As I am taking a quick bath I suddenly remembered the clock on the town plaza, why is it up to eighteen? I'll ask Ravn after. I changed into a white long sleeve ruffle blouse and fitted dress pants that I bought from the botique. It is old fashioned but simple. Ravn told me to just leave my clothes on the small table inside the bathroom. Before I leave, I made sure that the place is clean. I left bathroom feeling warm and refreshed.
I headed to the kitchen where Ravn is preparing the plates. "I'm done, thank you for letting me use the bathroom." "No problem, come here, sit down." He motioned me to sit on the chair opposite to him, "I prepared dinner." I sat down and thanked him. After we ate, I volunteered to clean the dishes while he get changed which he agreed hesistantly not wanting to bother me but I insisted.
"Are you done yet, Amber?" Ravn asked me when he got out of the bathroom. "Yes." I replied as I am drying my hands using the hand towel on the cupboard. He sat down on one of the chairs at the dining table. "Amber, please sit down, I have some questions to ask you." He said sternly which made me quite nervous, so I sat down quickly, "What is it?" "Helping you and letting you stay here doesn't mean I trust you fully and I'm not suspicious, right?" "Well, yeah. I'm still a stranger to you." "I don't want to hurt your feelings." "No, no, not at all. Go ahead."
"What are you?" Ravn realized his question, "I'm sorry it came off like that." "It's okay. I am just a mere human. Next question please." "You said you were kinda lost. How did you end up here?" "Well, I... uh, I entered a gate and was transported here. I don't know if you'll believe that but it's true." "Oh, I see. Are you aware of this place? I bet you don't know anything about the Winter Realm." "It is true that I don't." He sighed at my answer. "Be thankful that I'm the one who found you, if it was the werewolves hybrid, they could have killed you." My body shivered thinking of it. "But why would they kill me?" "They aren't very welcoming to strangers. Plus, you also look suspicious so they'll probably put you to painful death." I cringed at the thought of them tearing my body apart.
"I'm done asking questions, if you want, you can ask me too." My insides calmed down after he said that. "Then, where am I really? What kind of place is this?" My eyebrows furrowed unintentionally. "You're in Winter Realm, and obviously it's winter here. Wherein the season through out the whole year is winter." "What?!" "Yes." "How do you survive in this place? If the snowing is all-year round?" "Most of the citizens here are hybrids, humans are very rare here. And I'm not the only one from the Human-Crow family living here, we're a lot. Also, the werewolves hybrid are living here too. They are the knights of the castle while some of the human-crows are messengers and servants. Some of the hybrids us are just like me, a commoner." Woah, his house is quite big for a commoner's, that's what I thought. "Does that mean that the workers on the botique I bought these clothes, are not human? How about you?" He nodded and I gasped, if Ravn wasn't with me, maybe they won't sell clothes to me. "I sometimes have a duty in the castle as a cook or whatever they need for a special occasion like grand balls, meeting other diplomats but I work part-time on a small restaurant at the town plaza every 27 o'clock until 32."
"Oh, speaking of time, why is the clock up to eighteen?" "Are you referring to the clock on the plaza?" I nod. "It is because a day is equivalent to thirty-six hours, but! The daytime is 'til 12 o'clock only, then the rest is nighttime. That's total of 24 hours of night." "Then, what time is it now?" He looked to the window at the living room and squinted his eyes. "Hmm, according to the clock outside, it's currently passed twenty one o'clock ." "Isn't it late already?" "Not really. Why do you ask?" "In the place where I originally live, it's actually time to sleep by twenty one o'clock." "Really? You may sleep at my bed upstairs." "It's okay. I will just sleep at the couch. Can you take me to the forest later instead?" "That won't be a problem. It's actually my nap time, and I take my naps on the couch." "Oh, then I guess I'll be sleeping on the bed, you may have the couch." We both sat up and I reluctantly went to the three-stepped stairs while he's heading to the living room. "I told you, just sleep on the bed." He laughed while I climb the stairs, I just smiled at him and head to his room. I left the door half-closed since I'm not used to sleeping not in my room and for him to be able to enter without the need to knock.
I can't fall asleep yet so I stood up and went over to the window. The neighbourhood looks peaceful at night, I wonder, what are they doing too? Some are in their houses, while the others have their lights turned off. After admiring the view for some time, sleepiness finally kicked in and I immediately dozed off as I laid down myself.
"Amber, you ready?" Ravn asked me after I finished gathering the things I needed. "Well, the keys are here, the coins too, the fruits I bought earlier and the water bladder you gave me. I'm ready to go!" I replied to him happily and put on my sling bag. "Wait!" "Why?" I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "Take this lamp and this dagger, you can't just go to a forest without anything to protect you, especially at night!" He handed me the lamp and the dagger with a smile. I tied the dagger to my waist and hid it under my cloak. "What time is it?" "It's 26:13. I think we need to go now." "I believe so. Let's go?" Ravn opened the door to his house and let me step outside first.
Ravn flew me to the back of the castle and we landed safely. I climbed down from him before he transformed back to his human form, "Thank you for this, I cannot give anything back except these coins." I took the purse from my bag and handed it to him, he pushes it back to me saying he's fine but I grabbed his hand, placed the purse on it and shoved it to him and smiled, "No, I insist, take those. I have the half of it in my bag." Lie, I only left a quarter on my bag. "Well, I don't have a choice, you're too persistent." We both laughed knowing he won't win this arguement with me.
"Thank you so much Ravn for everything you did... From helping me on my way to the town, letting me stay the night, to bringing me here. I wish I could have given you anything aside from those coins." "It's alright, Amber. I'm glad I was able to help you. It's our family's rule— to help anyone in need without seeking for something in return." He plastered a smile. "Thank you again, but I think you need to head back or you'll be late for your work and might get paid less than you should have." I replied in a concerned tone, afraid he might think I'm shooing him away. His eyes went wide, looks like he had forgotten it already, I chuckled at the sight. "Oh right, I totally forgot about it, thank you for reminding me. I need to go, bye Amber." He waved to me and quickly transformed into a black raven spreading its magnificent wings. I waved back at him and he looked at me one last time before flying away.
I marched towards the inside of the said forest with excitement and nervousness. The only things I hear are the sound of crickets, owls and my own footsteps. I countinued walking until I heard a howling sound from afar. I got startled and stopped on my tracks for a while. Sure, walking at night– in the woods, with a small light and all alone? Isn't really scary. As I walked deeper and deeper to the forest, the growling of the animal became less and less faint until I spotted a creature not far from me. Its body is covered with black smoke and its eyes are glowing yellow. I stopped on my tracks to prevent further noise and hid the lamp beside me, hoping that the creature won't notice the light and come towards me. Unfortunately, it started walking to my direction causing me to flinch and drop the lamp I was carrying. It jumped infront of me and I wasn't able to move due to fear taking over me.
"Grrr, what is a lady doing here at night? Mayhaps you don't want to be able to see the sunlight tomorrow, eh?" It growled louder and before I could talk it lunged infront of me causing me to fall to the ground. "Please, spare my life." "Ha! You wish. Now, say goodbye." The creature, which somewhat look alike to a lion and wolf at the same time, slowly brings its face closer and opened its mouth widely. Is this where I end already?
It's been about a week and a half since Geonhak first joined you to take Sunho to school. Since then, Geonhak has been accompanying you both almost every school day, waking up early to meet you outside of the apartment and ride the bus with you and Sunho. Sunho loves it. He tells Geonhak about the games he plays, the books he's read, the stuff he's learning in class.
Some days, after dropping off Sunho with you, Geonhak will head to his dorm or to his practice. But on those days where you didn't want to return to your father's apartment, Geonhak would take you wherever you wanted to go, for as long as you wanted to be out. Whether it was just for some drinks, or to hang out at his dorm with him and his members. Seoho has, indeed, told you many embarrassing stories about Geonhak. Which provoked Geonhak to chase him around. Sometimes, you even get to watch them practice at their studio.
You and Sunho sit next to each other at the dinner table. Your father sits across from you, and Sooyeon sits across from Sunho. All of your plates are mostly empty from a filling dinner made by Sooyeon.
"Today, we practiced multiplication," Sunho says to you. "Areum helped me with it. She's better at it than me."
"Really?" you ask, grinning. "You can ask me if you need help. I know a bit about multiplication."
Sunho taps his feet excitedly. "Does Mr. Kim know multiplication?"
You pretend to think about it. "Hm. He should. Do you want him to help you practice?" Sunho nods, and you grin. "If you ask me, it seems like you like Mr. Kim more than you like me," you say, tickling him. He giggles.
"No! You're the one who reads to me every night."
"Who's Mr. Kim?" your father asks, interrupting. You look at him, and he asks again. "Who's Mr. Kim?"
"Oh, uh . . ."
You hesitate. You don't know why you don't want to tell him. Maybe it's because you want to separate your life at home from your time with Geonhak. Maybe it's because after all of this time you've spent with Geonhak and his group members, they've become almost a second family, your home, a safe place. And when you're with them, your father and Sooyeon vanish. Just for a moment. And you want to keep that safe. You don't want your father asking Geonhak to join a family dinner, and make you face the reality that you only really have one family.
"No one," you say. "Just a friend."
Your father tilts his head curiously. He looks at Sooyeon. "Clean the dishes, won't you?" he asks her. Sooyeon nods, standing up, and takes all of the dishes from the table. You hear the sound of the running water of the sink, as your father leans forward over the table.
Besides. You're an adult, and haven't seen your father properly in years. It's not like you owe him an explanation for anything.
"He's just a friend," you say.
"And how did you meet this friend here? You've only been here for a month and a half."
You shake your head. You don't have the energy to explain it. And you don't need to explain it to him.
"I need some space." You get up from the table and head for your room, and you can hear the sound of your father's chair being pushed backward as he stands up to follow you.
"Y/N, you're supposed to be able to tell me everything. I'm your father."
If you weren't so busy trying to get some distance between you and your father, you'd roll your eyes. Ideally, you'd be able to tell your father everything and everything. But you haven't spent real quality time with him since the start of high school. And he isn't exactly close to you fatherly-wise.
You push open your door and try to slam it shut behind you. But just before the door closes, the door swings back twice as hard, the handle hitting you right in the hip and the edge of the door itself slamming into your lower arm and knocking you back, and you wince in pain, holding onto your arm.
"Fuck," you mumble.
That's gonna bruise.
You step back and place your hand on the bed to maintain balance. You glare at your father. He's staring at you in a way that makes you feel so small. You don't speak a word, as his eyes fall onto your arm. His expression changes.
"Ah, shit. Y/N, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to--"
"Just go," you say. You move to sit on your bed before lying down, not looking at him. "I'm tired. Please just go."
There's silence. Then, you hear the door close, and you relax, shutting your eyes tight. You just want to fall asleep. Maybe in the morning, you'll wake up and realize that it was you who was being unreasonable, or you overreacting.
Tumblr media
Today, you and Geonhak are sitting at a table at the back of the library, after having taken Sunho to school. You two are pouring over a comic book together, snickering at the funny parts between sips of the cold drinks before you.
You two have been sitting there for the past three hours already. Time really flies when you spend time with him. He makes you so happy. Even when you two are walking in silence, not talking, you feel satisfied.
You know that you don't see him as just a friend now. He makes you so happy. Whenever you see him at the beginning of the day, when he shows up to take Sunho to school with you, you feel the butterflies burst in your stomach. You've never felt as safe with anyone as you do with Geonhak.
As your book comes to an end, you place it aside and check your phone. It's about 11:30AM.
"We should get ready to go," you say. "I have some readings to finish before I go back home."
"Maybe you could come over to the dorm?" Geonhak suggests. "I could make you some lunch. And you could do your studies at my dorm. If you want."
You grin. "Sure. I'd like that."
Tumblr media
Geonhak sits next to you as you work on your computer on the couch. Two windows are open on your screen, one with your reading and one to take notes on. Your sandwich lays half eaten on a plate on the table in front of you.
"Sunho was talking, yesterday, about wanting you to help him with subtraction," you say to Geonhak.
"Oh, really? I'd love to."
"I know." You glance at Geonhak. While you've been looking at your computer screen, you've been somewhat aware of Geonhak's eyes on you the entire time. You don't know why he's been watching you this whole time,and you don't want to ask.
You reach over your computer for your sandwich, and your arm bumps the top of the screen, right where the door had hit you last night after your father threw it open. It did end up bruising, as did the spot on your hip. But the one on your hip wasn't as bad.
You wince and lift your arm a bit, and instead reach around your computer instead of over. You don't want to worry Geonhak, and pray that he didn't see or notice. But you weren't so lucky.
"Huh?" Geonhak looks at you. "Are you okay?"
"Oh, yeah. I just . . . I hurt my arm yesterday is all."
Geonhak carefully takes your hand in his, watching you to make sure you're okay with it. When you don't stop him, he slides your sleeve up your arm and inspects the purple bruise carefully.
"You did this to yourself?" he asks, looking up at you with concern, his fingers gently tracing the outline of the bruise. You can't lie to him. You don't want to. And, to be honest, you don't think your brain or mouth will let you.
"Well . . . no, not exactly," you say, shaking your head.
"Who did this?"
You hesitate.
You don't want Geonhak to think you're friends with him just because you still need help coping with your family problems. And you definitely don't want to be a burden.
Your mouth doesn't let you lie.
"My dad hit me with the door yesterday," you admit.
Geonhak looks furious. "He did what? Y/N, I thought--"
"I don't think he meant to do it," you blurt out. "I mean--I don't think he meant to hurt me. He was just mad."
"That's the case every time," Geonhak says, staring into your eyes. "It's always that 'he was just mad.' But that's not an excuse for him to hurt you."
You stare back at Geonhak, and nod. You know he's right. That your father is hurting you, and at this point, it doesn't matter if he means to or not.
"You're right."
After a second, he takes your hands in his reassuringly, and looks you right in the eyes. "Hey. Y/Nie. Do you want to stay here tonight? I don't want you going back there, if you aren't going to be safe."
You look up at him. You almost want to say yes. But you also don't want to. On one hand, you want to spend more time with him. He makes you happy. You trust Geonhak more than anyone else.
But on the other hand, you don't trust him completely. Or anyone. You've given up on that. When the person you were supposed to trust most, your own parent, broke your trust, how can you trust anyone else like that?
You smile, pulling your hands away from him, and you shake your head.
"It's alright," you say. "Thank you for the offer, Hak, really. But like I said earlier, I'd like to give him one more chance. And I don't want to be a bother to you or your members, so if something happens, I'll just get a hotel room someplace," you say.
He tilts his head curiously and frowns. "You won't be a bother, Y/N. The members love you, trust me. Seoho definitely loves telling you about my embarrassing moments," he says grinning.
You smile,  but shake your head. "Thank you, Geonhak. But really, I think I'll stay at a hotel if something happens."
Geonhak sighs, then nods,  pulling his hand away from yours, and you feel yourself deflate a bit. "I'm always here if you need me, okay Y/Nie?"
"Of course."
You two continue to hang out a bit longer, until it's time for you to pick up Sunho from his school and for Geonhak to head to his work. You wish him a good day of practice, and leave to walk to Sunho's school on your own.
You have no idea where your mind is as you walk. It seems to be wandering everywhere, so much that you're barely aware of where you're going. You're on autopilot as you walk to Sunho's school. It's a wonder you don't accidentally walk into a lamp post
You know that you like Geonhak. You know that you have romantic feelings for him, however small. But right now, the last thing you want to do is act on them.
Growing up as a small kid, you had looked up to your parents. At first, you'd thought they were the best couple ever--seeing that parents are supposed to be their kids' role model.
But naturally, as your parents' marriage fell apart, so did your idea of love. How could you trust anyone with your heart when one of the people you were supposed to trust the most--your own father--already had broken your trust? You don't know if you're able to trust anyone like that. At least, for now. For you, you're happier just being friends with someone who you want to be more with.
But you also don't want to spend so much time close to Geonhak that you fall deeper in your feelings. Spending another night with him will make you want to spend another, and another. And you're too worried that that'll lead to you two being more than friends. Which you're not ready for.
You look up and realize you're at your destination. The gates leading to the school are there before you, standing a little taller than you are.
You stand, waiting outside of the gates in front of Sunho's school, like a parent waiting for their kid. You're a couple minutes early, so you're waiting, listening to your music while staring in the direction of the school while you think about how you like Geonhak but don't want to like Geonhak.
Your thoughts are interrupted by a small ring! from your phone. You look down, frowning, and you see that you just received a text from Geonhak. You click the message to see what he said.
Geonhak 🐥: The members were asking about you. They say hi and they hope you're doing well!
Above the text is a selfie Geonhak took. You can see Youngjo, Seoho and Dongju beside him, as well as Keonhee and Hwanwoong reflected in the mirror behind him. They're all smiling brightly, waving, making peace signs or hearts and silly faces. You can't help but smile. He and his members are all so sweet, and you can't help but smile dumbly as you type a text back.
You: Aww! Tell them thank you for me! 💕
You: And thank you for spending time with me today.
Just after you send the second text, you can hear the bell ring in the distance, signaling the end of Sunho's school day. A couple minutes pass as some students start exiting. They run to their waiting older parents or siblings. As you continue looking over the kids, you spot him.
Sunho is talking to two friends next to him. One little girl, who you recognize as his best friend Areum, and another kid who you don't know the name of. Sunho sees you, waves goodbye to his friend, and runs over to you.
"Hi Y/Nie!" he says, running over to grab your hand. "I can't wait to tell you about what I learned today! And Mr. Kim!"
You smile as you lead him to the bus stop. "I can't wait to hear it. And I'm sure Mr. Kim will be happy to hear it tomorrow before school, too!"
"Yeah!" He grins widely. "Can I show you at home?"
You grin. "Of course. Sunho," you say. You look up at the sky. The sun is bearing down on you. It's hot as hell today. You look down at Sunho. "How about we go and get you some ice cream. Does that sound good?"
"Yes please!"
You smile, leading the way toward the ice cream place you've gone once with Geonhak and Sunho.
You don't know what it is, but you find so much joy in pampering and treating Sunho. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you didn't get enough affection from your father, and you've seen that your father doesn't give Sunho any attention either. You want to give Sunho everything you lacked as a child.
You smile softly down at Sunho.
You wake up early in the morning to the sun in your eyes. This room isn't familiar. It isn't your bedroom at home. And it isn't the bedroom at your father's apartment.
It takes you a moment to remember that this is Kim Geonhak's dorm with his group members, and that, after getting in an argument with your father, Geonhak allowed you to sleep on their couch.
You sit up and rub your eyes. You're still wearing the white T-shirt that Geonhak lent you. It's several sizes too big for you, and is very comfortable.
You hear the door open, and suddenly someone emerges from the bedroom door next to the couch. Kim Youngjo, the brown haired man you had met last night, comes out from the bedroom. He's wearing sweatpants and a white T-shirt with a design on the front.
"Oh, good morning," he says. He smiles his warm smile as he moves across the room toward the kitchen. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, I did, thank you," you say.
"Would you like breakfast?" he asks. "I don't make the best eggs out of the group--that's Geonhak--but I'm a close second."
You shake your head. "No thank you. I should probably head home, I don't want to be a bother and overstay my welcome."
"Oh, don't worry," Youngjo says. "We're all happy to have you here. Any friend of Geonhak is a friend of ours. Besides, he really likes you. You must have been really good friends when you were kids."
"He was there for me when no one else was," you say. "From when my father would scream at me and my mother for getting in his way. When my parents would fight and I couldn't stand it. When my parents finally got divorced after years of fighting. He was there for me, as a shoulder to cry on, a second home to stay at. He was my best friend. He was my home," you explain.
"That's sweet of him. I would tell you that he's a warm, sweet and kind person beneath his intimidating appearance, but it seems you already know that," Youngjo says. "And I don't know you well, but if you need any help, I am always open to talk to."
"Thank you. Like I said, though, I should get going. My father might be worried about me," you say. You've already gathered your clothes and put on your coat. "Thank you for letting me stay."
"Thank you for blessing us with your presence," he jokes. He walks over to the front door and holds the door open for you as you leave. "Stay safe on your way home."
"Thank you, Youngjo."
You exit and wave goodbye as Youngjo closes the door behind you. Then you sigh and walk down and out, bracing yourself for whatever you might encounter when you get back to your father's apartment.
Tumblr media
The door creaks open and you push into the living room. Besides your light, careful footsteps, there isn't a single sound. Which isn't too much of a surprise. It's the weekend, so Sunho doesn't have school and neither of his parents, your father nor Sooyeon, have work today.
You head to your bedroom, close the door behind you, and plug in your phone to charge. There, you see several texts and calls from your father that you'd ignored from last night, begging you to return.
Last night, you had not felt safe at all. You'd wanted to stay at a hotel, but none were open. Perhaps you should stay at a hotel for the rest of your stay here in Korea. Maybe you would be--or at least feel--safer at a hotel.
As you start packing your stuff, suitcase on your bed with clothes folded inside, you don't hear the footsteps in the hallway. What you do hear is the door opening behind you. You turn around again and see your father, dressed in his work clothes, standing in the doorway.
"Y/N, where have you been all night? Your Eomma and I were up until midnight waiting for you last night," he says. His eyes drift over behind you, and settle on your suitcase. "Where are you going?
"I was thinking I might get a room at a hotel and stay there until I go home," you say, turning back to the suitcase, intentionally not meeting his eyes.
"What? Why?" he asks. You don't respond, not trusting your own voice. You're a little afraid that if you try to speak, your voice will break and you'll collapse from the inside out.
"Because of our argument last night?" your father asks, and you're already feeling bad for even thinking about staying elsewhere. "Y/N, are you kidding? It was an argument, leaving last night wasn't necessary--wanting to stay at a hotel isn't necessary!" He pauses. "Look. Y/N. I know that things have been difficult between us for the past few years. But I haven't seen you properly for so long, akd now you want to leave in the middle of your visit? Y/N, be reasonable. Please, I won't yell anymore. I just wanted you to try with your Eomma . . ."
There's a long silence, and you're left to respond to him. You feel so bad for leaving last night. It was unreasonable. It is unreasonable for you to want to leave . . .
You turn around, head hanging. You still can't look him in the eyes, but now it's much more because of shame.
"I'm . . . I'm sorry. You're right," you mumble, barely recognizing your own voice. You feel so small, sounds so small.
"It's alright," you hear your father say. "I have to finish getting ready for work, but how about you finish packing and relax. I'll take you, Eomma and Sunho out to a nice dinner tonight. How does that sound?"
You nod, but you really don't know what you think. Your brain is lagging behind a bit, you almost feel like you aren't in control of your body and mind. You feel lost.
"Perfect. And, do you think you could take Sunho to school today? He was asking about you all night after you left, I think he would want you to take him," your father says. Deep down, you know that this is your father manipulating you to stay through your little, five year old half brother. But on the other hand, you do care about Sunho.
"Sure," you say.
"Great."
Your father leaves the bedroom, and once you hear the door close, you blink and look up. You're back in control, but now you're just confused.
"I guess I'm staying," you mumble to yourself.
You remove everything from the suitcase and put them back where they were before. Really, you're confused about the past few minutes. You walked into this apartment this morning, expecting to leave with your things and get a room at a hotel where you'd feel so much physically and mentally safer. Instead, you have spoken to your father and somehow agreed to stay here.
After you finish folding your clothes again, you sit on your bed and lean with your back against the headboard and grab your phone. You can see several texts from 'Geonhak 🐥'. You click to see what he wrote.
Geonhak 🐥: Hey, where are you?
Geonhak 🐥: Are you okay? Are you safe?
Geonhak 🐥: Youngjo said you went home. I hope you're okay and safe. Please let me know.
Geonhak 🐥: Call me if you can? Let me know if you're ok.
You realize that you’re smiling stupidly at your phone. You're not only happy to have someone to listen to you, but you're also just happy to have a friend back.
You think back to when you two were kids. You would read together. You would play video games together, play on the playset together, despite being too old for it. You would spend hours talking, playing, and just hanging out.
You click the call button, and he picks up the phone almost right away. You wonder if he was waiting by the phone for your call.
"Y/N? Hey, are you okay?" he asks, his voice slightly muffled by the phone, but your heart flutters a bit at the sound of his voice still. "You weren't here when I woke up. I was hoping to maybe make you breakfast or something?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," you say, purposefully ignoring the fact that he wanted to make you breakfast. It's sweet of him. Really sweet.
"Do you need any help getting a hotel? Or do you have that figured out?"
You pause. "I'm staying at my father's apartment."
"But what about yesterday? Didn't something happen? Isn't that why you needed a place to stay?"
"Yeah . . . I talked to my dad and . . . well, he apologized," you say. "He said he wouldn't be like that again."
"But . . ." Geonhak sighs. "Alright. If anything happens again . . . if you need a place to stay, the dorm is always available."
"Thanks, Geonhak."
There's a long pause. You can feel him wanting to speak on the other end of the phone. And you also want to tell him that you can't find the words for.
That while you've agreed to stay here at your father's apartment, you actually would so much rather stay at ONEUS's dorm. You hate it here, and you have no idea why you agreed to stay when you had come back planning to leave and stay at a hotel instead.
"Y/N, I'm worried about you," Geonhak says.
Now would be the perfect time to tell him exactly what you're thinking.
"You don't have to worry," you say. "I'm an adult. I can get a hotel if I need to. And I can call you if I ever need help."
Geonhak sighs. "Alright."
You nod, and are about to wish him goodbye when he speaks again.
"Hey . . . would you like to hang out today? Or tomorrow? Maybe go to the library or something?"
You smile, and almost giggle into your phone. Your cheeks are warm. "Yeah. Sure. I'm busy today, my father wants me to take Sunho to school and then I have some reading to do. But tomorrow works."
"Alright. Who's Sunho?"
"Oh. My dad's kid. My half brother. He's six."
"Oh, cute!" Geonhak exclaims. "Would you like me to come with you to take him to school? I'm good with kids, I swear."
"Aren't you busy?"
"No. My schedule today is flexible."
You smile. "Alright. I can text you my father's address and we'll take Sunho to school. See you soon."
Tumblr media
Sunho is clinging on tightly to your hand as you leave the apartment building together. When he saw you after he finished brushing his teeth, he almost burst into tears. You apologized to him for not reading to him last night, until he calmed down and finished getting ready for school.
As you exit the building, you see Geonhak standing further down the sidewalk. His clothes are plain--jeans, a black T-shirt and white overshirt and glasses--so he doesn't stand out too much, but you recognize him right away.
He sees you at the same time and smiles, walking over to you and Sunho. You blink, surprised by how handsome he looks now that it's the daytime. Not that he wasn't handsome last night when you stayed over.
Geonhak bends down in front of Sunho, so that their faces are at around the same height.
"Hi," Geonhak says in such a sweet and gentle voice that catches you by surprise. He holds up his hand for Sunho to hi-five. Sunho does, indeed, hi-five him, and you watch Geonhak's smile widen. "I'm Kim Geonhak," he says softly. "You must be Sunho."
Sunho looks up at you, and you nod. He nods back at Geonhak.
"I'm friends with your sibling Y/N," Geonhak says. "How old are you, Sunho?"
Sunho raises his hands.
"Six? Woah! You're so tall for a six year old. Are you the tallest in your class?" Geonhak asks. Sunho nods. "Cool. I'm going to be coming with Y/N to take you to school. Is that alright with you?"
Sunho nods.
"Great." Geonhak looks up at you with the most adorable smile you've ever seen on his face as he stands up straight.
"I see that you wanted to say hello to Sunho before saying hello to me," you joke. You gently tug at Sunho's hand and he follows you and Geonhak down the sidewalk, toward the bus stop you use to get to Sunho's school.
"I wanted to be friendly with him first," Geonhak explains. "Didn't want him to think I was just some stranger."
You nod.
"Are you alright? Last night was a lot, I think, for you," Geonhak says.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Can we talk about it after?" you ask. You glance at Sunho, trying to signal to Geonhak, not in front of Sunho. He seems to get the message, and nods.
"Right. Sorry." He looks at Sunho and smiles. "Sunho, is it okay if I hold your hand while we walk?"
Sunho nods his head while smiles widely and holds his hand out to Geonhak, who takes it and smiles at you.
"So, Sunho," Geonhak says. His voice is soft and gentle, shocking now that you're used to his deep voice. "What do you like to do for fun?"
Sunho thinks for a second. "I like reading. Y/N reads an English book to me at night!"
"Oh? Do they?" Geonhak smiles over at you, and you swear your heart starts to beat a bit faster. His smile is really . . . lovely. "What books?"
"Y/N reads me 'The Kiss . . .'" Sunho frowns, scrunching up his face while trying to remember. "'The Kissing Hand'! It's in English."
"Oh? I've never read it. Is it good? Do you like it?" Geonhak asks. Sunho nods. Watching the way Geonhak smiles at Sunho is adorable. He's so good with kids, and you can tell he's having a lot of fun.
"Yeah! It's my favorite English book!"
"Oh, I should read it sometime then."
You laugh a bit and Geonhak looks at you curiously. "Geonhak, it's a kids book."
"I'd love to read a kids book," Geonhak says. "Sunho, would you want me to read you a book sometime?"
Sunho nods.
You, Sunho and Geonhak board the semi-crowded bus. You stand, one hand holding Sunho's while the other grips the pole for stability as the bus starts to move. Geonhak stands behind you, his hand holding the pole above yours.
"Did you know Y/N disappeared last night?" Sunho asks. "I got really scared. It was night time and I was scared they were gonna get lost. But they came back this morning."
"Right," Geonhak says, looking at you. "You don't have to worry. Y/N was with me! I made sure that they were safe, and protected them."
Sunho's face lights up brightly. "Really? Thank you for protecting Y/N, Mr. Kim! I was scared Y/N wasn't going to be able to take me to school today."
"Do you like school, Sunho?" Geonhak asks. Sunho nods quickly with the biggest smile on his face. "Do you have friends at school?"
"Yeah!" Sunho says, grinning. "I have my best friend Areum. Areum likes reading too! And also my other friends."
You smile down at Sunho, then over at Geonhak. Geonhak's smiling down at Sunho with the most precious smile you've ever seen. He's got little tiny dimples, you notice. And his eyes are like little crescents because he's smiling so hard.
You shake your head and look back at Sunho.
The bus comes to a halt at the bus stop outside of Sunho's school. You and Geonhak dismount with him, and walk over to the sidewalk. You kneel in front of him and fix his shirt.
"You're gonna have a good day, right?" you ask. He nods, and you hold up your hand for a high five. "Good. Have a good day at school, okay Sunho?" you say.
"Okay!" He nods and high fives you.
"Give Geonhak one too," you say. He walks over to Geonhak, who raises both of his hands and gives him two high fives. Sunho lets out a giggle, and you can tell from the way he's grinning that he likes Geonhak.
You and Geonhak wave Sunho off as he walks the rest of the way to school, joining his friends. You both watch as he walks with them toward the school building, laughing and talking.
"He really likes you," you say, eyes still on Sunho. You can see Geonhak look at you out of the corner of your eye. "I can tell. You made him really happy."
"That's nice to hear." There's a pause. "Do you want to go to get drinks with me?" he asks "Coffee or tea or smoothies?"
You nod. "Smoothies sound nice."
"I know a place we can walk to from here," he says. He reaches for your hand, but stops himself and smiles.
"This way," he says, nodding his head down the road. You follow him as he starts walking, considering what flavor of smoothie you want to get.
"Is Sunho your half brother, then?" he asks, after a minute of silence. You nod.
"Yeah. We have the same father. But his mother is Sooyeon," you explain. "I actually never met Sunho before I visited. He's a sweet kid. I hope that my father treats them better than he treated me and my mom."
Geonhak nods. "About this morning . . . are you okay?"
You nod. "Yeah."
"I thought you were planning to stay at a hotel tonight? But you said you aren't? What happened with that?" he asks. "I don't want to be invasive, so if you don't want to tell me, that's alright."
"No, it's okay. When I went to my father's apartment to pack my stuff, my father confronted me. He apologized, I think. And asked me to give him another chance. He promised not to do anything threatening or aggressive anymore."
Geonhak nods. "He said that a lot when we were kids, too. 'I won't do it again.' 'I'll do better next time.' Forgiving is alright, but if you keep doing it every time, he'll only do it more."
"I know," you murmur. "But I guess I want to believe that now that he has this new family, he's changed."
Geonhak sighs. "That makes sense. Just remember, you can always call me for help, Y/N."
You smile. "Thank you, Geonhak. I . . . really appreciate you letting me stay over last night. Your members were very nice to meet."
"You think so?" Geonhak asks, laughing a bit. "They liked you. I think Seoho would have spent time intentionally telling you every embarrassing thing I've ever done if he could."
"Oh?" You raise an eyebrow at him, grinning evilly. "Well, then I guess Seoho and I have some catching up to do."
He sighs and rolls his eyes. "Whatever. It's not like you haven't seen my embarrassing self when I was in school with you."
You grin. "You were pretty embarrassing back then."
"So were you! There's the smoothie stand."
You both line up for the smoothies, and he helps you decide on which flavor to get and helps you order. You grin at him as he hands you your smoothie.
"You know," you start, "besides last night, you and I haven't really hung out yet. Which is a shame, since we haven't hung out in years."
"True. I'd love to walk Sunho to school with you more, if you'd allow me," he chuckles, sipping from his own drink.
"You're really good with kids," you note. "Or, at least, with Sunho."
"Right. I'm studying early childhood education, so it's only natural that I've learned a bit about how to work with kids."
"That's cute," you blurt out. Geonhak gives you a shy, smiley look, similar to the adoring look he gave Sunho.
"Cute?"
You roll your eyes and nudge him. "Yeah, sure. Cute. Don't let it get to your head, though. Sunho is still cuter than you."
Geonhak gasps, feigning shock, and places his hand in surprise in mock offense. "Really? I'm offended." He chuckles a bit.
You can feel your face heating up from the way he looks at you. You clear your throat and look away. "Uh, yeah. I'd love it if you could join me and Sunho in the mornings, whenever you can. But that's not what I meant."
"Oh?" He tilts his head curiously.
"What I meant was actually hanging out. As friends. Maybe we could go to the library or park or something," you say. "Maybe see a movie."
He grins. "Sure. Have you been sightseeing yet?"
You shake your head. Your father hasn't really taken you anywhere since you arrived. If anything, you've spent most of your time here as Sunho's babysitter and a shopper for Sooyeon.
"No? Maybe I could . . . take you sightseeing?" he offers. You nod.
"I'd like that."
You see your father waiting at the entrance of the airport as you exit baggage claim. You haven't seen him in a long time, especially not alone, but he looks almost the same as he did when he moved here to Korea with his wife, who now stands beside him, waiting for you. She looks to be almost half your father's age, but you don't say anything.
Several years ago, two years before you entered high school, your parents divorced, and later your dad moved to South Korea with his Korean wife. Since then, he would visit your home once a year, for a week at a time on your birthday. But you've never been to Korea before now.
You had a friend when you were younger who was from Korea. But a year after your parents split, he moved back home to Korea. You fell out of contact soon after, but you often wonder how he's doing.
You approach your father. Your height difference has changed significantly since you last saw him. You're now much closer to his height than you were before. His wife, a Korean woman you met once when he introduced you so many years ago, before he moved to Korea. You don't remember her name very clearly. It started with an S, maybe? Or a J? Something like that. Her black hair is cut in a short bob, and her smile is soft, almost insincere. A little boy you didn't notice stands beside her, looking up at you curiously.
"Hi, Y/N," your father says, giving you a hug. You return it, uncomfortably, and then pull away. You smile in an attempt to placebo yourself into feeling more comfortable, but it doesn't work. "How was your flight?"
"Fine," you say. "A bit bumpy, but not too bad.
"Have you met my wife?" he asks, placing his hand on his wife's back. You shake your head.
"Hello, I'm Sooyeon," your step-mother says. She shakes your hand, then directs your attention to the little boy beside her, who is now hiding behind his mother's legs. "And this is Sunho."
You bend down to Sunho's face level, in sort of an uncomfortable squat. "Hello," you say, your voice softer. He waves with his tiny hand.
"How old are you?" you ask. His mother, Sooyeon, translates to him. He must not speak English. Or maybe he just isn't fluent. Sunho  raises his hands up to you, showing five fingers on one hand and his thumb on the other.
"Oh, six?"
"Yes, he's six years old."
You nod. Sunho smiles at you proudly, and he smiles back, still hiding behind the cloth of his mom's skirt.
"He's shy," Sooyeon explains.
Your father directs you out of the airport to his car. You sit in the back with your half brother, Sunho, while your dad and step-mother sit in the front and passenger seats. The ride to their apartment is quiet except for Sunho, who giggles as you make silly faces at him. At the same time, you watch the buildings zip past.
You haven't seen your father in about a year, but he's barely spoken to you since you've arrived, other than introducing you to his wife. You don't know if you should be surprised.
You reach the apartment, and your father helps bring your stuff inside. He shows you to your room. It's empty, and blinding white, as if they just had it cleaned this morning. You walk over to the bed to stand in the center of the room. It feels so empty and plain and large, compared to your small room at your home.
"Y/Nah," your dad says from the doorway. You turn to him, slightly startled by his voice. You've been here in Korea for a few hours and you still aren't used to his voice yet. "Sooyeon is going to have dinner ready in about half an hour. Does that sound good?"
You nod. "Yes."
"Y/N . . ." You look up at your father questioningly. "I'm happy to see you."
You nod, unsure of whether you feel the same way. There are reasons you live with your mom full time and only see your father once a year.
Your father closes the door as he leaves you alone to take in the room on your own. You set your bag aside and open the closet to find it empty. Since you'll be here for two months, you are expected to use the room as you wish. You don't have enough clothes to fill the closet yet in your suitcase, but you wouldn't be surprised if you collect additional clothes during this trip.
You put away all of your things, hanging up your jacket and putting away your shirts and pants. You stare at the bed. It's so clean that you almost don't want to lie down. But you're tired from the plane ride and the emotional exhaustion of meeting your father for the first time in forever. But also, Sooyeon is making dinner for the four of you, so you can't sleep, because that would both be rude to her and would also mess up your sleep schedule for the next two months.
With somewhere between ten and twenty minutes left before dinner--you haven't been keeping track--you decide to sit down on your bed and scroll through the internet and think.
You think about how you used to come to school and tell your friend, the Korean kid--gosh, you wish you could remember his name, he was so nice, but it was so long ago--about what happened at home the day before. You would tell him about how you couldn't sleep because your parents were screaming at each other again, or you would tell him about how your father hurt you or locked you in the basement as a punishment.
You sigh. Aren't parents supposed to be the adults you look up to? The ones who you learn from? Aren't parents supposed to be an example of a healthy relationship? But instead, all you saw and heard was screaming and violence. You grew up being afraid of your own safety, and wondering if watching your mother being hit or threatened was normal.
You frown. The more of that you saw, the more and more you gave up on the idea of a relationship. It was what love was supposed to be--doors slamming, screaming every night--you didn't want it.
Why did you want to come here and spend two months in Korea with your father again?
Right. You wanted to try to mend your relationship with him. Why? Because he wanted you to. And you knew that, if it didn't end up working out, you are now old enough to get a room at a hotel to stay safe if needed.
You sigh. Maybe this wasn't a good idea. Maybe you should go back home and--
"Y/N?"
You look at the door. Sooyeon, your step-mother, has opened the door just enough to poke her head inside the room. You must have been so deep in your thoughts to not hear her open the door.
"Yes?" you say, your voice light as you pretend to be happy and excited to be here and see her.
"Dinner is ready," she says.
"Oh, thank you, Miss Sooyeon. I'll be there in a minute."
"Of course. And please, call me Eomma," she says, smiling widely. You nod, though you aren't very comfortable with calling her the Korean word for mom. You already have a mom who raised you alone for the past six years. Why would you call this woman who you barely know cmom" when you don't see her as that? When you already have a mom that raised you alone? You'd rather call her Miss. Sooyeon.
"Thank you, Eomma," you say anyway. You're afraid that, if your dad finds out you're being disrespectful or disobedient, you'll get in trouble.
She disappears from the doorway, closing the door as she leaves, and you sigh. You're already so emotionally drained by being here, and you still have two months left.
You swing your legs off of the bed and stand up. All you have to do is get through dinner and then you can go to bed and sleep. Maybe in the morning, you'll feel better about being here.
You walk over to the dining room. Your father is sitting at the table, which has been set with table mats, plates and silverware. Sooyeon stands next to him, and Sunho sits across from him. He smiles at the sight of you and points to you. Your father and Sooyeon both look at you at the same time. They both smile widely, but their smiles don't make you feel comfortable. So you just smile at Sunho instead and sit next to your father while Sooyeon sits next to Sunho.
"So Y/N," Sooyeon says, halfway through the meal. "What do you like to do?"
You blink. How do you answer that? You don't know this woman. You don't know if she's genuinely asking because she's genuinely curious, or if she wants information for something, or if she's going to judge you and criticize you, or if--
You shake yourself. These are your trust issues speaking. Maybe you should just answer her like a normal person without trust issues would.
"I listen to music. And I play some video games. I read and draw a lot. I just finished my freshman year of college, so it's difficult to focus on my hobbies as much as usual," you say, sipping from your glass of water.
"Oh? What kind of music do you listen to?"
You squirm in your chair. All of these questions being shot at you are starting to feel like an interrogation, and it makes you feel anxious.
"I, uh, listen to many types of music," you stutter, your voice quiet from the internal stress.
"Y/Nah, don't mumble," your dad scolds loudly from next to you, causing you to jump in your chair. You're still not used to his voice, and him scolding you for the first time in years isn't helping at all.
"Sorry, dad," you mumble, ducking your head.
"Answer your Eomma's question," your dad says, leaning toward you,  and you wince at him speaking so close to you. His voice is loud, demanding, and booming. The same that you remember, back when he would shut you in the garage or closet when you were twelve.
You take a deep breath.
"I listen to many types of music. Not a specific type, really." You can feel two pairs of eyes on you. Your father and Sooyeon are staring at you, while Sunho just continues eating. "Eomma," you add. Your father leans back in his chair, and you wish you could feel that relaxed.
You had expected that he might have changed in the past seven years. You'd hoped he'd become less violent and scary.
It seems he hasn't.
He's almost the same as you remember.
Loud, angry and intimidating. His presence demeaning power and attention from the rest of the room.
"You're in college, right?" Sooyeon asks.
"Yes," you confirm.. "I just finished my first year."
"And how was your first year of college?" she asks.
"Fine."
She nods, and doesn't ask anymore questions. You wonder if you made it clear enough that this is a topic you aren't interested in talking about with her.
You finish your dinner in silence. Your father allows you to wash your dishes before you head to your room to say goodnight.
You sit on your bed, considering the past few  hours you've spent here in Korea. It's not bad. The city is nice. The bed is comfortable.
But none of that really erases the memories of your parents screaming through the walls, the fear and pain you endured for several years and the loneliness you endured for several more years.
Really, you're not here for fun. You're here to mend a broken relationship that you're not even sure is worth salvaging.
“Sunho, let’s go to school, alright?” you call out. Sunho runs out of his room, all dressed for school with his bag ready, and he grabs onto your hand. “Ready to go?” you ask. He nods aggressively.
It’s been just over two weeks since you arrived in Korea, and you’ve been adapting quite well to it here. You’ve spent most of your time reading to Sunho, who loves spending time with you. You’ve read him ‘The Kissing Hand’ about once a night as a bedtime story, and several other books throughout the week, and you have been taking him to school for the past week, while his mom and your shared father go to work. It’s easier for them, plus you feel helpful and you get to know your little half brother.
You and Sooyeon haven’t gotten along much since she yelled at you two weeks ago. Ever since she talked about and criticized your upbringing by your mother like that …
You’ve felt the tension between you and her ever since then. Your anger has gone down, but it’s difficult to see Sooyeon and not rehear those words she spoke. She hasn’t apologized, hasn’t even suggested that she feels bad for insulting you or your mother. You and Sooyeon have had quite a few disagreements like that since then, about stupid things like your screen time–you’re a college student on vacation and she isn’t your mother–and eating habits. Sooyeon started staring and watching you as you simply exist. It’s really as if she’s looking for something to yell at you.
You walk with Sunho to the bus stop you take to get to his school. The stop isn’t too far from your father’s apartment, so you hold his hand as you lead him onto the bus, and hold his hand throughout the ride.
After you wave Sunho off, and he waves goodbye back before joining some friends his age and disappearing into the school building. You  hum as you head back to your dad’s apartment, hands in the pockets of your pants as you listen to music through your earbuds. As you walk back toward the apartment, something on the ground catches your eye.
You frown and move off to the side of the sidewalk, kneeling down as if to tie your shoelaces, and you reach over to pluck up the end of the red thread, lying on the sidewalk.
You stand up again, clutching the thread tightly in your hand. It’s been just over a week since you last saw the red thread. It’s a different day, different place, but it almost certainly is the same red thread. You look up, and watch as the thread, a bright red, runs down the sidewalk ahead of you and turns left ahead, disappearing around the block.
You frown. No one else seems to notice or see the string. No one did the last time you saw it, either. They continue about their days, stepping over and around it without even sparing it a glance.
You follow the red thread, coiling it up in your hand and rolling it into a ball as you walk along the path. Miss Sooyeon would probably be appalled by the fact that you’re picking up a random string on the ground. To be fair, you have no idea what this string is, where it leads and where it’s been. You have no idea how dirty it is. But at the same time, this is the second time you’ve seen this thread since you arrived here in Korea. Last time you saw it, it vanished mysteriously after you ran into someone at the store. How can you not be curious about this mysterious red thread?
You follow the string down the street, making sure to be much more mindful of your surroundings so that you don’t run into anyone on the sidewalk, and don’t get run over by a car or bike. You continue walking, and you see ahead that the string leads to a bus stop on the sidewalk, several people waiting in its shade. As you walk closer to the stop, you can see the string wound around the poles holding up the roof, and hanging from the ceiling. You stare up at the string, intrigued, and come to a stop beside the structure, observing how the thread is wrapped around the black pillar.
“What are you looking at?”
You almost jump at the deep voice beside you, and clutch your heart. You see a man next to you, around your age, black hair, eerily familiar. He’s looking between you and the bus stop structure curiously.
“I didn’t mean to scare you,” he says. He frowns, tilting his head to you. “Wait, you’re the person from the store the other week.”
Oh, that’s where you’ve seen him! He’s the man you ran into at the store when you followed the red thread two weeks ago!
Oh. Oh!
That’s embarrassing.
“Oh, yes, that was me,” you say. You can feel your cheeks heating up in embarrassment. “Sorry, again, about bumping into you.”
“No worries,” he says. “So how has your second week here been? Two weeks, right?”
“Yep. It’s been fine,” you say. “The city is beautiful.” There really is no other way to describe it. You’ve enjoyed reading to Sunho. You’ve enjoyed the small amount of sightseeing you’ve done.
“Excellent,” he says. “By the way, I’m Geonhak.”
He holds out his hand to shake, and you shake it.
“I’m Y/N,” you say. He tilts his head curiously.
“When I lived internationally, I had a friend by that name. Where did you say you were visiting from, again?” he asks. You tell him what city you come from, and his eyes widen.
“Your last name wouldn’t happen to be … Y/L/N, would it?” he asks. You nod.
“It is. How did you know?”
He laughs. “I lived there during middle school. If I’m not mistaken, we went to school together, and we were friends,” he says.
You frown, thinking back. There’s no way this man could be the Korean kid you were friends with, all those years ago. But now that you think of it, his name was Geonhak …
“Geonhak Kim?” you guess. He nods and beams at you.
“Yes, that was me!”
“Oh, that’s so … amazing that we’ve met again! It’s been so long,” you say, nervously rubbing the back of your neck. “I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you.”
“No worries,” he says. “It took me two weeks to recognize you. It’s been many, many years since we’ve seen each other, so it’s understandable. How have you been, Y/Nie?”
You smile at the name Y/Nie. You can almost hear it in his much younger voice, from when you were kids. His voice certainly has gotten deeper since you were thirteen.
“Not much. I just finished my freshman year of college, but as I told you, I’m here visiting my father,” you say. “How about you? How have you been?”
“I, uh …” He glances around before leaning toward you. “I’m an idol,” he says, his voice somewhat lowered.
“An idol? A K-Pop idol? A celebrity?”
He nods. “Yeah,” he says. He’s smiling almost confidently, but his rosy, blushy cheeks are telling you he’s a bit shy. “I’m part of the Korean idol group ONEUS.”
“Oh, that name sounds familiar,” you say, thinking back to where you recognize the name from. “Was it 'Valkyrie’?”
“Yes, that was our debut title track,” he says laughing. “Oh, have you heard of us?”
“Yeah, I listened to 'Valkyrie’. I liked it, it was nice,” you say. “So since we went to school together, you became a celebrity. If memory serves, you were into dance and used to sing. Nice to know it went to good use.”
He chuckles. “Yeah.”
A screech sounds as the bus pulls up to the bus stop. People line up at the now-open door and start entering, scanning their cards and finding a seat.
“Ah, that’s me,” Geonhak says. “Here, let’s quickly exchange numbers. Here’s my phone, just put in your name, and I can put my number on yours.”
You give him your phone and type in your own phone number, putting 'Y/Nie Y/L/N’ as the contact name. You give Geonhak his phone back, and he gives you yours back.
“Bye, Y/N,” he says, smiling brightly. “We should talk soon!” He waves before joining the line for the bus. You wave goodbye again as the bus departs before frowning to yourself. You came to this bus stop for a reason, didn’t you? What was it?
Oh. Right.
You look back up at the roof of the structure, but the red thread is nowhere to be seen. Not dangling from the ceiling, nor wrapped around the supports like before. You look down at your hand, but, once again, the thread has vanished. You glance around, but there is no red thread to be found.
“What … ?”
After glancing around for a moment, you settle with the fact that the red thread has, once again, completely vanished. Slightly disappointed by not figuring out the mystery of the red thread, you head back to the apartment.
Tumblr media
You sit in your room, on your bed, working on your computer. You have a bit of summer reading to do for school, and so you’re getting a bit of a head start now.
You have your earbuds in both of your ears, playing all of ONEUS’ music on shuffle. After learning that your childhood friend is now famous and a member of a popular music group three days ago, you wanted to check out their songs. And you really like their music, their first album especially.
Bored with the reading, you take out your phone and open contacts. Geonhak hpad named himself in your phone as 'Geonhak 🐥’ when you gave him your phone three days ago, which you found extremely cute.
You and Geonhak have been texting back and forth since you exchanged numbers. Mostly just talking about school, life. You talk about hobbies and how you both have been since middle school. Once or twice, you mentioned living with your mother and without your father, but it was never a main topic of conversation.
It’s nice to think about meeting your childhood friend. Especially now that you think of how he was always so kind to you when you would come to school and tell him about what your dad did to you or your mom. He would comfort you, he would listen to you. And, from what you remember, he was generally just a fun friend.
“Y/N!”
You look up in surprise. Sunho stands in the doorway, carrying his favorite book 'The Kissing Hand,’ in his arms.
“Hi, Sunho,” you say. “Do you want me to read to you before dinner?”
“Yes please,” he says. You pat the spot on the bed next to you, and he comes and sits down there. He places the book down and smiles widely. You reach over to open the book when you hear the front door open. You swear your heart stops at the sound of the door slamming shut.
“Ah, sorry! I didn’t mean to slam the door!” Your father’s voice is loud, and you let out the breath that you didn’t realize you were holding.
You can hear Sooyeon respond in Korean from the kitchen. With your limited knowledge or Korean, she says something along the lines of, “It’s okay! I just made dinner! I was about to get the kids.”
A couple minutes pass, and then suddenly the door opens to your bedroom and Sooyeon pokes her head in.
“Hello you two,” Sooyeon says. “Dinner is ready.” She repeats it again in Korean for Sunho.
“Okay-yee!” Sunho jumps off the bed. “Let’s go!” he says in Korean. You follow him to the dining room, his loud footsteps echoing through the hallway as he runs to his usual spot.
The four of you take your seats at the table. You sit to the right of your father and across from Sunho, Sooyeon sitting diagonally from you.
Dinner passes by in a flash, and after you finish washing your dishes, your father pulls you aside. Sooyeon is washing her and Sunho’s dishes.
“Y/N,” your father says. You feel yourself stiffen a bit. “I heard from your Eomma that you’ve been being disrespectful these past two weeks.”
You frown. “Disrespectful?” You look over at Sooyeon, who was watching over her shoulder. She quickly looks back at the spoon she’s washing, and you look back at your father.
“She told me that you’ve been arguing with her,” he says. “You’ve been talking back to her.”
“She was talking about mom!” you exclaim.
Your father slams his hand down on the table, and you jump back, hands around yourself like a shield between yourself and him, your head down so that you’re looking down at his shoes.
A moment passes.
“Did I ask what she was talking about?” your father asks, his voice loud and booming. You don’t know if it’s real or in your head, but it feels like his voice is echoing off of all of the walls, both in your house and in your head.
“No,” you say. Your voice is so quiet. “You didn’t.”
“Right. Now, I don’t know what you’ve been arguing with your Eomma about. But I want you to apologize to her,” your father says.
You chew at your lip and turn toward Sooyeon, who is leaning against the kitchen counter. Sunho is nowhere to be seen. Your brain has gone fuzzy, and not in a good way like when you have your favorite food after many years. Instead, it’s like when your mind has gone blank in fear.
You stare at the floor, and watch as a single tear  falls from your eyes.
Without even thinking about it, you rush to the doorway, shove your feet into your shoes as fast as you can, and run out the door, down the stairs, and out of the building.
You have no destination in mind. You’ve never been to Korea before. So you run down the only street you’ve run down before. Your arms are wrapped around yourself, protecting you from everything else. Once you feel safer and far away from the danger as possible, you stop and take a deep breath.
It’s dark out. The sun must have set only an hour or so ago. It’s also cold, because it’s night time. Not frightfully cold, but cold enough that a small gust of wind of wind makes you shiver. You look up at the moon in the sky, shining brightly. It’s awfully calming.
After inhaling the fresh air deeply, you look down. Lying there, you see–for the third time, a red string. One end lying at your feet as if placed there deliberately. You frown and pick it up.
It’s the same shade of rest as the last two times you found a red thread on the sidewalk. As you examine it closer, you can see bits of glitter between the strands that are twisted together to build the string.
You look up and follow the string. As you turn the corner, you see that the string leads to the bust stop right ahead. As you approach, you realize that this is the same bus stop you’d followed the red thread to two weeks ago.
The thread is strewn wildly about the bus stop. Coiling around the poles that support the rest of the structure, thrown over the roof and dangling over the edges. You can see the glitter on the string twinkling from the streetlight next to the stop. It’s pretty. It’s beautiful. But you’re still confused as to why this thread is here, why it was there before–twice–and why the thread keeps vanishing.
With one end of the thread still in your hand, you walk over to sit down on the bench within the bus stop. You look around you at the thread dangling around the exterior Of the structure. The glittering string is really pretty.
You hear footsteps nearing and look over to the side. Someone is approaching from down the sidewalk. You squint as they walk beneath the streetlight, until you recognize their face.
“Geonhak?”
The man in question is wearing a white shirt and a jean jacket. It is indeed Geonhak, and as you continue looking at him, you see that he too is holding an end of the string in his hand. He squints at you for a moment, then the bus stop covered in red string, then back at you.
“Y/N?” He walks closer, until he’s standing right next to the bus stop, and you can see he’s frowning. “What are you doing out alone so late?”
“Nothing,” you say.
“What–have you been crying?” he asks. You touch your cheeks and realize they’re wet from when you ran out of your father’s apartment only minutes ago. You quickly wipe away at the tears.
“Oh, no. I mean, yes I have. But don’t worry about it.”
“Are you alright?” He sits down on the bench next to you.
“Yeah. I just got in an argument with my father.”
“I’m sorry. Do you need anything? Can I give you a hug?”
You sniff. “That would be nice.”
He leans over and hugs you. You hum, and thank him after he pulls away.
“So what brought you out here?” you ask. “So late.”
He opens his mouth, then pauses. “You know, I’m not entirely sure. I went outside to get some air, and I followed this red thread … here?”
You look up at the string still dangling from the roof.
“Yeah,” you say. “I, uh … Is there a hotel that would possibly be open about now? I don’t feel safe going back to my dad’s apartment tonight.”
“I don’t think there’s anywhere you can go this late. However, you could come to our dorm,” he says. “We share a bedroom, but I could get you covers and you could sleep on the couch. I promise it’s comfortable. And I can help you get a hotel room tomorrow.”
“Oh, I don’t want to be a bother to you and your members,” you say.
“Really, I don’t mind,” he says. “Please. I don’t want you staying out here in the dark.”
“Would your management be okay with that?” you ask. The last thing you want is to get him in trouble with his superiors.
“I could tell them in the morning that you’re a friend and you needed a place to sleep,” he says.
“Oh. I’d really appreciate that.”
He stands up and stretches his hand out for you to take. You allow him to pull you out of your chair, and follow him down the sidewalk from the direction he came.
“My members might be shocked to meet you, but I’ll explain to them that you just needed a place to stay for the night and that you’re a friend,” he says. You follow him, your hand in his.
“Okay,” you say. “Thank you. I really appreciate it.”
“No problem. Remember when you and I would have sleepovers when your parents got into fights?” he asks.
You nod. You remember you would go to his house, or less often, he would come to yours. Your dad never wanted any of your friends to come over to your house–you didn’t know why–but your mom insisted on letting Geonhak visit. You can vividly remember when he and you would try to play games and talk over the sound of your father yelling at your mother for things out of her control.
“Just like old times.” Geonhak chuckles.
You follow him to his dorm building. He takes you up using the elevator, and opens the door to his dorm. Your hand still in his, you follow him inside. You can hear chatter inside, and as Geonhak leads you further into the dorm, you can see the source of the voices.
One of the two people in the room is staring intently at his phone, a boy with wavy hair who looks quite a bit younger than yourself and Geonhak. The other person in the living room, a brown haired man, looks up as Geonhak closes the door behind you.
“Geonhak, how was your walk?” The man looks at you. “Oh! Who’s … who’s this?”
“This is my childhood friend, Y/Nie,” Geonhak says. “From back when I lived internationally.”
“Y/N? The friend you’ve been talking about?” The wavy haired boy looks at you and waves cutely. “Hi. I’m Dongju, Xion.”
You wave back, smiling widely. This boy’s smile is contagious, you can’t help but smile when he smiles. “Hi.”
“I’m Kim Youngjo, Ravn,” the brown haired man says. He smiles a warm smile, and you would be lying if you said your heart didn’t flutter a bit at his smile.
“Yeah, this is my friend Y/Nie,” Geonhak says. “Y/N needed a place to stay tonight, so I offered. If that’s okay, Youngjo.”
“Sure,” Youngjo says. “Y/N, if you need anything, feel free to let us know.”
“Thank you,” you reply. “I don’t want to be too much of a bother. Hopefully I can get my staying conditions sorted out after tonight. I’ll get a hotel tomorrow or something.”
“No worries,” he says, standing up. He walks over and shakes your hand. “Our other members are out right now, still at the studio I believe, but they should be here any time soon.”
“Alright, I’ll get you some bed covers and pillows from the next room,” Geonhak says. “Youngjo, can you show Y/N around a bit?” He disappears into the next room, leaving you with Youngjo and Dongju.
“So that over there is the kitchen,” Youngjo says, gesturing to the area that is so very obviously the kitchen. “And that room is the bedroom that we all share. You can come in if you need anything, though you might not want to disturb Geonhak when he sleeps.”
You frown. “Why?”
Dongju cups his hand next to his mouth.
“He sleeps without his shirt on,” he whispers loudly. “You might not want to see that.”
You laugh a bit.
“So you knew each other as kids?” Youngjo asks. You nod, and he smiles softly. “That’s sweet. And you two didn’t plan on meeting here?”
“Not at all,” you say. “I’m here visiting my father. I actually ran into him–literally–at the store just after I arrived back here.”
“Oh? That’s quite a miracle that you ran into each other accidentally,” Youngjo says, laughing. He has a genuine, happy laugh. “Are you not staying with your father?”
You shake your head. “No. He and I … don’t really have the healthiest relationship,” you say. Usually you wouldn’t want to tell a stranger about this. But Youngjo and Dongju–who is sitting on the couch nearby–both seem friendly, and for some reason, it slips out.
“I’m sorry,” Youngjo says softly. “I know we’ve only just met, but I am her for you and am willing to support you. I’m sure Geonhak is too, as your friend.”
“If you need to stay here another night,” Dongju says from the couch, “feel free to do so.”
The door to the next room opens, and Geonhak walks in. He’s changed into a new white T-shirt and black sweatpants, and he’s carrying two large blankets and a pillow, stacked on top of each other.
“Alright,” he says. “I have two blankets and a pillow. I promise they’ll be comfortable, but if you need anything, you can wake me up at any time to ask.”
You nod. “Thank you so much. It should be enough for the night.”
Suddenly, the door opens behind you, and you nearly jump in surprise to turn to him. A very tall man enters, and freezes at the sight of you.
“Keonhee! This is my friend, Y/N,” Geonhak says quickly. “They need to stay here for the night.”
“Oh, thank goodness,” the tall man, Keonhee, says, sighing and placing his hand over his chest. “I thought you were a burglar for a second.”
Keonhee walks in further, and two other men follow, one much shorter than Keonhee with blond hair, and one with a much more normal height. They seem much less shocked at the sight of you, probably because they heard Geonhak’s explanation to Keonhee.
They all introduce themselves to you. The shortest one with light hair is named Hwanwoong, and the other man is named Seoho. They’re all kind and sweet and welcoming and friendly. You spend a bit of time getting to know them, exchanging numbers and talking about your time in Korea.
With it getting so late, they all eventually head to bed. Geonhak stays with you as they go. Once the lights in their bedroom have gone out, and the blankets have been set up on the couch, Geonhak smiles at you.
“If you need sleeping clothes, you can have this,” he says, holding out a large white T-shirt. You thank him, and hurry to the restroom to change. As you exit, you can see Geonhak leaning against the wall next to the couch.
“I hope this is comfortable enough for you,” he says smiling widely.
“It is, I promise,” you say. “Thank you, Geonhak. You didn’t have to do this. Your members didn’t have to do this. So thank you.”
He hums. “I sleep on the top bunk of the bed right across from the bedroom door. So if you need anything, please wake me.”
“I will.”
“Alright. Well, good night,” he says.
“Good night, Geonhak. Thank you for helping me.”
He heads to bed, and you watch him disappear into the bedroom. You settle beneath the blankets, and feel yourself falling asleep. You’ve had a long day, so it’s reasonable that you’re tired. Your eyelids are heavy, and you fall asleep in Geonhak’s T-shirt almost as soon as your head hits the pillow.
《 Series Masterlist // ONEUS Masterlist // Boy Group Masterlist 》
Tumblr media
It's been two weeks since Geonhak disappeared during ONEUS's practice and didn't show up for yours. You'd texted Geonhak several times that night, asking what you did or if he was okay, and had tried calling him the following practice day. He never picked up any of the calls or responded to your texts, leaving you on read. You haven't shown up to any of the practices since then, ONEUS's or yours. You figured that Geonhak didn't want to see you, whatever you did, so you wouldn't make him see you.
The rest of the members have been checking in on you these past two weeks. You've been over once to chat with Youngjo after hours to chat in the studio. Seoho invited you to come over and hang out during ONEUS's practice, but you declined because you didn't want to make Geonhak uncomfortable. Dongju and you hung out several times a week, but that hasn't been out of the ordinary. Hwanwoong and Keonhee have both been checking in with you every few days. Last week, when Dongju and Keonhee took you out to get ice cream, and, they told you that Geonhak has been very quiet recently and has avoided speaking about you.
You're at work, ten minutes left before you're supposed to go home, and you're thinking about how much you mist practice with Geonhak when you receive a text from Hwanwoong.
Woongie: Y/N are you busy after work today?
You: No, why?
Woongie: can you pls come to the rbw building?
You: Why?
At first, you want to say no. You don't want to risk running into Geonhak in the hallway and making things awkward. He obviously isn't interested in seeing you.
After almost a full two minutes, Hwanwoong responds.
Woongie: i need you to check the choreo to help me. we can go out and get some bubble tea after.
You: Will Geonhak be there?
Woongie: no, everyone went home except for youngjo who's busy
You: Fine. But only if you're paying for the bubble tea
He takes a moment to respond.
Woongie: fine. hurry up and text me when you get here
As you walk toward RBW, a weird feeling creeps up your spine. You shake your head and ignore it. As you see the doors to the building, you text Hwanwoong to let him know you’re here.
You meet him in the lobby, smiling widely, and he reaches out toward you, taking your hand and leading you down the hall to the elevator which will take you upstairs to the practice room. You frown. Something seems off.
"Is this for your new choreo for your upcoming comeback?" you ask.
"Uh . . . yeah."
"Why did you ask me?"
He pauses. "Because I wanted your opinion on the dance."
"But I'm not technically allowed to see it until it's being promoted, right?" you ask, despite the fact that ever since ONEUS debuted, you've been able to see the choreos from the initial teaser releases.
"Haha, yeah. I just need to check something. Please."
You raise an eyebrow. "Alright then."
The elevator dings, and you step out onto the floor. You haven't been here in two weeks, since you last saw Geonhak. You sigh sadly and walk out of the elevator, Hwanwoong trailing close behind you.
Suddenly, you feel fabric cover your eyes and your vision becomes black. You grab back at him as he ties the fabric in a knot on the back of your head, blindfolding you completely.
"Hwanwoong, what the f--"
"Hold on," Hwanwoong says. "I'm gonna take you to the practice room and then you'll understand everything. I promise, Y/N."
He walks you down the hall slowly, pushing you by your shoulders then stops you.
"Reach out."
You place your hand against the wall, and to the side. Your finger brushes over the room sign, and you recognize the letters of the sign to the practice room.
"We're going inside, okay."
You hear the door click open and he pushes you inside. You can hear both of your footsteps echoing across the floor. He then stops you, probably in the middle of the room, his hands remaining on your shoulders. You reach up to undo the blindfold, but he smacks your hand.
"Not yet."
"Hwanwoong, what the fuck is this? Why am I blindfolded?"
He doesn't answer.
"Are you actually going to show me a choreo?"
"No, sorry."
You frown beneath the mask. "You better buy me a bubble tea after this."
Hwanwoong laughs behind you. "Fine."
You hear the door open, followed by shuffling and two more sets of footsteps.
"You'll understand in a bit," Dongju says from across the room. You frown. What the hell is happening?
Hwanwoong's hands leave your shoulders, and there's the sound of him and another person, possibly Dongju,  running toward the door.
"You can undo your blindfolds once you hear the door close, okay?" Dongju's voice says. "You need to figure out what's going on. We'll be back in an hour." After a moment, the door closes and you reach up to undo your blindfold.
"What is this . . . ?" the other person says. You frown at the familiar deep voice. It's impossible not to recognize it, even though you haven't heard it in two weeks.
"Geonhak?"
There's a long silence. "Y/N?"
You take off the blindfold and shove it in your pocket. Geonhak stands in front of you, a few feet away. His eyes are covered by a red blindfolded, not at all matching his white shirt and black jeans. His hands are at his sides. He takes a deep breath and undoes his blindfold.
"What are those two idiots doing?" he mumbles, folding the red cloth and shoving it in his jean pockets. He looks up at you slowly, and you swear your heart melts at the sight of him.
"Hi," you say, somewhat breathlessly. You've missed him so much.
"Hey."
There’s a moment of silence.
“Dongju texted me that he wanted me to help him with his dance. He practically begged me to come, and after I said no several times, I gave up and agreed to come. I guess he tricked me, huh?”
“Yeah. Hwanwoong said basically the same thing."
Gunhak chuckles. After a few seconds, you sigh and turn around to face the mirror. You see Geonhak behind you, trying the doorknob, before he groans and turns back from the door.
"It's locked, isn't it?" you ask, looking over at him. He nods.
"Those kids . . ."
You nod and smile, turning back to yourself in the mirror. It's been two weeks since you've seen Geonhak. Two weeks since you've danced.
You bend your knee and start humming the first song Geonhak taught you--A Song Written Easily. You start doing the choreography as well as you can, watching yourself in the mirror.
When you get to the end of his part in the first verse, you look up and see Geonhak watching you through the mirror. Your eyes meet his, and you feel your cheeks get warm as you look away from him.
"Have you been practicing?" he asks from where he's sitting on the floor.
You shake your head and sit down where you are. "No. I didn't . . . I didn't want to come here, because I didn't want to make you uncomfortable. I don't know what I did wrong or why you left, but I figured that it was because of me. I wanted to give you space."
He nods, staring at the floor. "I'm sorry."
"Geonhak . . ."
He looks up at you.
"What did I do?" you ask, looking into his eyes. You can feel your voice breaking, as if you're on the verge of tears. Maybe you are. "I've missed talking to you. I've missed having lessons with you. We were having a good day, having snacks, and you just left. I called you and I didn't get an actual answer as to why you left. I feel like it was my fault, but I can't do anything if you don't tell me what I did wrong. So Geonhak, please tell me what I did wrong."
You look away and dab at your eyes, knowing that you're definitely tearing up at least a little. You hear a shuffle and look up at Geonhak, who is now standing up. He walks over to the speaker and starts pressing some buttons on his phone. Music starts playing, and it takes you a second to recognize the song.
Geonhak walks back over to you and stretches his hand out to you.
"Dance with me."
"What?" you ask, confused.
"Dance with me."
You slowly slide your hand into his, and he pulls you to your feet. He holds both of your hands with his, and leads you in a slow dance with the slow music.
It's not like you haven't held hands before. Being friends, you've held hands several times with all of the members, including Geonhak. But this feels different to you. Maybe it's because you know you like Geonhak. Like like like him. Or maybe it's because he's staring into your eyes so very softly, and it makes you look down at your feet moving over the dance floor. And the way he squeezes your hand so gently and tenderly with such care.
"Y/N," he murmurs, and you look up at him. He's staring over your head now, at the wall behind you. "You didn't do anything wrong. I walked in and heard you and Hwanwoong talking. I heard him offer to teach you, so I got jealous and left. Honestly, I was being a bit stupid and couldn't face you afterward. I'm sorry."
"You only heard that part?" you ask. He nods, laughing and looking down. "So then you didn't hear me say no, then. I did say no, because I've enjoyed being taught by you and spending time with you. I've really missed you."
He smiles, looking back at you. "I've missed you too--teaching you, I mean." There's a pause. "And being with you. Spending time with you. To be honest, spending time with you is one of my favorite things."
"Me too," you admit.
"I think you're an amazing friend, Y/N," he continues his rambling. He's not quite looking at you. His eyes are on yours, but it's almost as if he's looking into them, through them. "I'm so glad that you became friends with Dongju all those years ago, because if you hadn't, I'd never have had the pleasure of being your friend. I'm so glad to be your friend, though sometimes I wish we were more. And I was so honored that you wanted me to teach you, because teaching you has been one of the most enjoyable things I've done."
You replay his words in your head. "Geonhak . . ."
"Hm?" He blinks, looking at you properly.
"Did you say you wish we were more than friends?"
He freezes his dancing, opens his mouth as if he's trying to figure out what to say. "D-did I say that?"
"You did . . ." You can feel your cheeks growing warm. His speechlessness is too telling.
He chuckles awkwardly and loosens his hold on your hands. His ears are bright red as he avoids making eye contact with you. "I didn't--what I meant was that I--"
You stand up on your tip-toes and plant a kiss on his cheek. His mouth is left open in shock as he stares, unblinking, at the wall behind you.a
After a few seconds, he turns back to you. "Y/N?" he asks, a confused, somewhat excited look on his face.
"Mhm?"
"Did you just . . . ?"
"Yep."
"And . . . and what did that mean?" he asks, his eyebrows scrunched up questioningly.
"That I like you too, idiot," you say. This is the first time you've really felt it. You like him. Despite the worries of what it'd be like to be with an idol, you like Geonhak.
He smiles at you widely and softly. He squeezes your hands tighter. "But I didn't even tell you that I like you."
"Well, you did. But do you?"
He chuckles, removing his hands from yours to wrap them around your waist. You place your hands on his shoulders, smiling up at him. "Yes, I do," he says.
"Does that mean you'll start teaching me again?" you ask. "I've missed dancing, and I was really looking forward to learning Twilight like you promised to teach me."
He laughs. "Of course. But I do have another question."
"Hm?"
"What does this--" He waves his hand to gesture to the situation, the two of you together, your hands on his shoulders and his arm around your waist. "--mean about us?"
"What do you want it to mean?" you ask. He pauses, thinking.
"I meant it," he says, "when I said I wish we were more than friends."
"Okay." You squeeze his shoulders.
"Okay?" He tilts his head curiously with a smile. "Okay what? What's okay?"
"Let's be more than friends," you say. He cracks a wide smile.
"Really?" he asks eagerly. You nod and he hums, hugging you tightly. "I have one more question."
"Mhm?"
"Can I take you out for ice cream or something as soon as Dongju and Hwanwoong let us out? As maybe a first date?" he asks. His voice, as usual, is deep, but his cheeks are pink from his shy smile.
"Alright. Can I pay?" you ask, pulling back so your hands slide back into his. "Because you payed last time?"
"I insist that I pay," he says. "I promise you can pay another time, okay Y/N? Consider it an apology for abandoning you for two weeks, okay?"
You pout. "Fine. But only if I can give you another cheek kiss."
"You can give me a cheek kiss whenever you want, Y/Nie."
You smile widely and kiss his other cheek, and don't miss he way he smiles shy and blushes. "Geonhak, how long have we been locked in here?"
He glances at the clock. "About half an hour. We still have half an hour left before those two kids let us out. What do you want to do during that time?"
You walk backward toward the wall, pulling Geonhak with you. "Cuddle?"
He smiles. "Okay."
Tumblr media
You're slumped over with your head on Geonhak's shoulder. You had fallen asleep maybe ten, fifteen minutes ago, with your hand clasped in his.
He stares at you, thinking back to that one time, weeks ago, when you'd fallen asleep on him on the couch at the dorm. Back then, you were just friends. But now you're more than just friends. He can't believe it. His heart swells at the sight of your hands clasping each other.
The door opens and you lift your head in surprise, rubbing your eyes with the hand not in his. Hwanwoong has his hand on the doorknob, and Dongju stands behind him, looking into the room.
"So I assume you guys figured it out?" Hwanwoong asks, eyeing your clasped hands with a smile.
"Yeah," you say. Geonhak stands and helps you up.
"Can we go now?" Geonhak asks. Dongju chuckles.
"Yes, if you two are friends again," Dongju says. You look up at Geonhak. You're more than friends.
"Yep."
"Good."
You're sure Dongju is looking at the two of you, but you aren't quite sure. You're busy smiling up at Geonhak as the two of you start out the door.
"Y/N, I assume you don't want me to buy you ice cream?" Hwanwoong asks. You shake your head.
"Geonhak and I are hanging out," you reply. Dongju gasps loudly behind you as you and Geonhak walk down the hallway.
"Are you two finally together now?" Dongju asks loudly. Geonhak shoots him an annoyed glare, and Hwanwoong smacks his shoulder, but Dongju already has it figured out. "Finally. Does this mean Geonhak will stop talking on and on about how he's excited to see you?"
Geonhak drags you into the elevator before you can hear anything else Dongju or Hwanwoong have to say. You glance at Geonhak, who hasn't stopped staring at you with the softest smile.
"Can I get another cheek kiss?" Geonhak asks, leaning so that his back is against the elevator wall. You roll your eyes and take his face in your hands, standing on your toes to kiss his cheek. You pull away and he smiles widely, his ears turning red as he stares at you adoringly, placing his hands over yours on his cheeks.
You carry a plastic bag with you as you head into the RBW building. You hadn't told the members that you were coming, hoping to surprise them after a long week of practice. It's been a few days since Geonhak's birthday, a busy yet fun day. At some point, later at night after dinner, Geonhak had pulled you aside to talk about learning the next song--Twilight--and in your excitement, you wanted to come to practice early.
A trainee in the hallway nods to you. You've spent enough time here that you know most of everyone at RBW. You're friends with ONEUS and ONEWE. You're close with quite a few of the trainees, and you've even met the members of MAMAMOO.
You stop in front of the practice room again. The music is playing gently in the background, but instead of being accompanied by the sounds of dancing footsteps, it's accompanied by laughter and chatter.
You place your hand on the doorknob and poke your head in. The six members are sitting in a circle, chatting about who knows what. Something about a new song or something.
"Hello?" you say, knocking on the doorframe. They look over at you, and you hold out the bag of food. "I got you guys some food, if you guys want it."
"Y/N!"
Dongju runs to you, and you expect a hug. Instead, he takes the bag of food from your hand and sits back down in his spot between Keonhee and Hwanwoong, and the three start digging through the bag.
"Wow, I thought you'd be happy to see me, not the food," you say, laughing. Geonhak, across the circle, scoots aside and beckons you to come sit in the newly made spot between him and Youngjo. You do, and smile over at him.
"Excited for practice today?" he asks quietly, smiling widely. "You've got Lit all the way done. And Valkyrie is most of the way there. We should be able to start with Twilight today."
You clap gently, very excited. Geonhak chuckles and smiles his cute, nose-scrunchy smile.
"Geonhak," Keonhe says. "Come with me to finish heating the food."
Geonhak sighs, before getting up.
"I'm excited for this afternoon," you say to him as he leaves.
Hwanwoong looks up from the takeout in his hands, from the other side of the circle. "What's going on this afternoon?"
"Oh, I'm gonna start learning Twilight with Geonhak."
"Oh right! I forgot you're dancing with Geonhak. How's that going?" Hwanwoong asks excitedly. "What have you learned so far, Y/Nie?"
"Geonhak has taught me A Song Written Easily, Lit, and I'm almost done learning Valkyrie."
"Oh?" Youngjo asks. "You should show us what you have done for A Song Written Easily. Let's see how good of a teacher Geonhak is."
You stand up, and Seoho plays the song from his phone. You start dancing along with the music, recalling Geonhak's movements as you watch yourself in the mirror. The members in the room--Yongjo, Seoho, Hwanwoong and Dongju--clap and cheer you on.
Once you finish, you bow as they applaud you.
"That was great," Hwanwoong says. "Geonhak's a good teacher, hm?"
"Yes, he is."
"I'm not surprised. And it shows. You dance like you've been doing it for a long time," Hwanwoong says.
"You said you're working on Valkyrie?" Seoho says. You nod. "Why don't you show us, and we give you some pointers?"
"Alright."
You dance as Seoho plays the song from his phone.
"At that part," Hwanwoong says. "You should bend your front knee more. It'll make it easier to move on to the next part."
You nod, continuing the dance.
As you reach the end of the song, your right hand stretched upward, the members clap for you. You sit back down, smiling from all of the attention.
"So, how'd you manage to get Geonhak to teach you right before our comeback?" Hwanwoong asks.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm just curious about how you got Geonhak to teach you," Hwanwoong says, eyebrow raised.
"Well," you say, "I asked Geonhak because I was too nervous to ask you, actually."
"What? We're friends, aren't we?"
"Yes, but back then we weren't as close as we are now." You laugh at the thought. "But now we're much closer."
"Hey, I'm still open to teaching you if you're interested, Y/N," Hwanwoong says. You open your mouth. Would it be rude to reject him?
But Geonhak is already teaching you.
The sound of a door closing echoes through the room, but you're too focused on the conversation to notice it.
Suddenly, Dongju smacks Hwanwoong's arm and whispers something in his ear. Hwanwoong looks from the door to you.
"Or not. Geonhak seems to be doing a great job at teaching you already, you know," he says quickly. You nod.
"Yeah. Thanks for the offer, though."
Keonhee walks over and hands out the snacks, small tubs of food. He hands you one and you frown.
"Where's Geonhak?" you ask Keonhee.
"He said he was going to the restroom," Keonhee says. He seems to want to say more, but doesnt.
As the ONEUS practice comes to a close, Geonhak doesn't appear. You ask Youngjo, and he seems as concerned as you. The rest of the members pack up to go to their respective spaces after practice ends. Youngjo heads to the studio, and Hwanwoong, Dongju and Keonhee pack up to head to the dorm. Geonhak is nowhere to be found.
Seoho taps your shoulder.
"If Geonhak doesn't show up," he says, "I'll be two rooms down, and Youngjo is in the studio. If you need either of us, feel free to interrupt either of us. Okay?"
"Thank you," you say. He waves goodbye and leaves the room. You're left alone in the practice room.
You pace back and forth. You still have ten minutes until your practice technically starts. Perhaps he went to get an extra snack for the two of you. Maybe he had to get something from the dorm.
But as the minutes pass, you remain alone in the practice room. Five minutes, then ten minutes past the start of your practice together, you're sitting with your back against the wall.
You take out your phone and call Geonhak. He doesn't pick up. You call again, and he doesn't pick up. The third time you call, the phone rings for a long time, and just as you're about to hang up, the other end picks up.
"Hello?" Geonhak's voice is muffled by the phone, but you'd recognize his voice anywhere.
"Geonhak," you say, breathless with stress yet relieved that he picked up. "Where the hell are you? Our practice started ten minutes ago."
There's a long pause. Or at least, it feels long. "Why don't you ask Hwanwoong to teach you?"
"What?" You pause for a moment, trying to figure out what's going on. "Geonhak . . ."
"You know what? I'm feeling a bit sick, I'm going to hang up. Bye."
He hangs up, and you're left alone in your thoughts.
What the hell?
You want to curl up. What is all this about? Geonhak is obviously mad at you for something, but as you think through the day, nothing comes up.
You sniff and wipe your eyes. Your hand comes away wet, and you realize that you're crying.
You stand up, sniffling, and sluggishly make your way out of the practice room, down the hall, and knock on the door to your right. The door to the studio opens up, and Seoho is standing beside the door, hand on the doorknob. Further into the room, Youngjo is sitting in front of the computer.
"Y/N?" Youngjo asks, leaning away from the computer. "Are you okay? Aren't you in practice with Geonhak?"
You look between them, and Seoho's face falls. He can tell from the sullen look on your face. You two might not be super close, but he still knows you.
"He didn't come," Seoho concludes. His voice sounds as sad as yours. He opens his arms. "Come here."
You hug him, and for some reason, you're crying into Seoho's chest. You don't see Youngjo and Seoho exchange worried glances.
"Do you want to sit down, Y/Nie?" Seoho asks, gesturing to the chairs against the back wall. You nod and sit with him. He hugs you and pats your back gently.
You hear clicking and look up. Youngjo is pressing things on his phone furiously.
"What are you doing?" you ask.
"Calling Geonhak."
You stare at him as he holds his phone to his ear.
"Geonhak, where are you?" he scolds into the phone. There's a pause. "Y/N is waiting for you, why aren't you here? You need to come back. No  Geon--Geonhak! You can't just do that to them." He pauses, and then his voice softens. "They're in the studio with me and Seoho. Geonhak, what's going on with you? Geonhak!"
He takes his phone away from his ear and sighs.
"Youngjo . . . what'd he say?" you ask.
"He told me he's at the dorm. He's not coming back. He didn't say why."
You nod. At this point, you just want to know why Geonhak isn't here. Why he's mad at you like this. You two have argued before, you've been friends for years. So what could you have possibly done to make him suddenly leave you?
Or is this him getting back at you for the one time you left him during practice, because he got too close to you?
"That stubborn kid . . ." Youngjo looks at you and pauses. "The youngest three should be at the dorm by now. I'll ask Keonhee to check on him."
He types a text to Keonhee, then sets his phone aside. He turns his chair to face you.
"Are you okay, Y/N?" he asks gently. "I know these practices mean a lot to you. They mean a lot to Geonhak, too. I don't know what's wrong, but it's not your fault, okay?"
"Thank you, Youngjo. And Seoho," you say. "I don't know why he's upset at all. I think I did something but K don't know what."
"Wait, wait," Seoho says, thinking. "Geonhak disappeared right after you brought us snacks. You only saw him for a bit before he went to help Keonhee with the snacks, before he left. What could have happened in that time?"
You shake your head. You don't know.
Suddenly, Youngjo's phone rings. He picks it up quickly.
"Hello? Ah, Keonhee. He won't? What's he--oh. Please keep us updated, Okay Keonhee? Thank you." He pauses and whispers to you. "Geonhak won't say anything to them. He barely said hello when they walked into the room."
You want to find it comforting. That you're not the only one he's ignoring. You want to think that he might be mad at someone else, one of the members, but not you. But you have a feeling, deep down, that it has something to do with you.
"Y/Nie," Seoho says. "If you want, you can stay here. We'll walk you home after we finish, okay?"
"Okay," you say.
Tumblr media
Geonhak sits on his bed, phone in hand. He's watching music videos, listening to music, playing games, anything. Anything to distract him from you. But he can't help but think back to only a few hours ago at the end of the ONEUS practice.
He was so excited to teach you today. He'd practiced extra this morning, redoing the Twilight choreography a few times and figuring out the little things like positioning.
He was elated to see you come in early. He couldn't help but smile when he saw you, both in general and today.
When he had walked back into the room to hand out some of the snacks, he saw you talking to Hwanwoong.
"I asked Geonhak because I was too nervous to ask you, actually," he had heard you say through the crack in the door. He knew this already. You'd told him the same thing when you asked him to teach you. But he doesn't like hearing he was your second choice.
"What? We're friends, aren't we?" he had heard Hwanwoong say.
"Yes, but back then we weren't as close as we are now." Geonhak heard you laugh. He loved your laugh. But he didn't want to hear you laughing with Hwanwoong. "But now we're much closer."
"Hey, I'm still open to teaching you if you're interested, Y/N," Hwanwoong had said. Geonhak froze. Now that you and Hwanwoong were close, there was no need for you to reject him. After all, he was the main dancer.
Geonhak loved teaching you dancing. He loved teaching and being helpful, he loved spending time with you, and this was a combination of the two. But thinking that you could always Hwanwoong teach you instead . . .
Geonhak turned around, closing the door a bit louder than he had intended, and stepped back. Keonhee had nearly walked into him.
"Aren't you going inside?" Keonhee asked, frowning.
"I, uh, yeah. Take these, please, I have to go to the restroom," Geonhak had said, handing Keonhee the food. He walked past him and headed down the hall, straight back to the dorm.
All he could think of was Hwanwoong teaching you instead of him. Hwanwoong offered to teach you, why would you refuse when the whole reason you didn't ask him in the first place was because you were too shy, and now you're closer?
Tumblr media
"Geonhak?"
He looks over to the doorway, and Keonhee is standing there.
"Oh, you're home."
"Geonhak, are you okay? Are you feeling sick?" Keonhee asks.
He tries to think of a way to answer the question, but how to do that? No? Yes? He turns away from Keonhee.
"Let me know if you need anything."
After a moment, he hears Keonhee leave the room. He hears speaking in the other room. Dongju and Hwanwoong. Shouldn't he be glad that Hwanwoong is here instead of teaching you?
He starts to think of you again. You must be still with Youngjo and Seoho at RBW. You must be so mad at him for abandoning you before practice.
He's liked you for a long time. Long before he started teaching you dancing. He met you maybe four years ago, and he started thinking of you as more than a friend perhaps two years ago. You'd never seemed to feel the same way, and so he never acted on those feelings. But spending time with you, teaching you to dance, he thought maybe there was a chance that you might feel the same. That maybe you could be more than friends.
And then he'd heard Hwanwoong offering to teach you instead. He felt himself feeling absolutely crushed, absolutely deflated. So very jealous. He still feels that way, that he likes you so much and that to you, you're just friends.
After you get off of work, you hurry home to get your bag of workout clothes. You refill your water bottle even though you know you can get water when you arrive at RBW. You're just too excited.
This morning, you'd woken up with the sun bright in your eyes. You'd looked outside and had seen that there were few clouds in the sky, and you felt that today was going to be a good day. You didn't know why, until your phone dinged. You checked to see that you had dance practice scheduled with Geonhak, and you couldn't help but smile.
And so here you are, walking to RBW with your bag slung over your shoulder. The summer weather isn't too cold or too warm, isn't too dry or humid. It's a perfect day, and you have a feeling in your gut that the day will remain perfect.
When you get to the RBW building, you change into your workout clothes in the bathroom. One of the trainees had once mentioned to you that they change clothes because after a few hours of practice, the workout clothes is all sweaty, so it's useful to have clothes to change into.
You stand outside of the practice room and knock. The door opens and you are met with Geonhak. He's wearing a white T-shirt, loose, black sweatpants and a wide smile. His hair is recently dyed blond. You can see that Dongju was right--Geonhak was really excited to teach you. You can see it in his eyes. The way his nose is scrunched up as he smiles. He's excited to teach you.
"Hi Y/N!" he says, stepping backward and opening the door wider to let you in.
"Hey Geonhak," you reply as you set your stuff down. You stretch on the floor, and he joins you.
"Where's everyone else?" you ask. Usually the other members linger around after group practices for a few minutes, but no sign of them remains in the room. Not even a forgotten water bottle or sweatshirt.
"Youngjo is working on producing and recording in the studio with Seoho right now, I think," Geonhak says. "I've no idea where the other three are. They might have gone back to the dorm."
You nod.
"Were you expecting them to be here?" Geonhak asks. You shake your head.
"No. It's just that they often linger around a bit when there's nothing to do. Especially the younger ones."
After you've finished stretching, you and Geonhak find the dance video. His A Song Written Easily dance video. He turns the speed to x0.75 speed, and you watch as the video Leedo moves slowly, copying him and trying not to laugh at the slowed down audio.
The first attempt, Geonhak doesn't dance with you. Instead, he watches you dance the song. With the slowed speed, you find it easier to perfect the moves you already know, and find that you aren't as clunky and clumsy this time. However, Geonhak's staring doesn't make it easier.
You reach the part you're familiar with, and the video continues without you.
"Good job," Geonhak says. "Keep watching. After the video ends, I want you to try the whole video at this speed. It doesn't matter if you mess up, I'll coach you after."
You keep watching the video, trying to memorize the dance moves. You find yourself copying the moves slightly, even just where you're standing, your hands and shoulders mimicking the small movements and your knees bending as Leedo dances on screen.
After the video is finished, Geonhak leans over to the computer, pauses it and moves it back to the beginning.
"I noticed you imitating the dance subtly," Geonhak says before unpausing. You watch his finger trail over the key as he speaks. "That's smart. You're already starting, and that'll help the muscle memory learn the dance easier and faster. Ready to start?"
You nod, and Geonhak starts the video. For the first part, the part you've been practicing for the past few days, you dance confidently. Not perfectly, but confidently. Because you know it. You don't even need to keep your eyes on the video. But as it gets to parts that you're unfamiliar with, you pay more attention to the video. Even with the slowness, it's easy for you to get lost and confused. You try to follow along, though. During the parts where you're less lost--parts such as the chorus--your eyes find Geonhak's in the mirror, and you can see him smiling at you. Even as you stumble, miss a beat, or even just stop to watch for a second before catching up to the video, Geonhak does nothing but observe with a smile on his face.
The video finishes after a long time, and you try stand up straight, but end up panting with your hands against your thighs. You're not sweating, but you're still tired from doing all of that movement.
"Want to take a break?" Geonhak asks gently. You nod, thankful that he's so understanding. Perhaps it has anything to do with the fact that he studied early childhood education. You wonder, for a moment, if you'd asked Hwanwoong or Seoho to teach you instead, would they have been this patient?
After you swallow a mouthful of water, you stand back in your place in front of the screen and mirror, Geonhak standing a few feet away from you.
You dance together until a part you're unfamiliar with--Keonhee's pre-chorus after Geonhak's rap--and you watch Geonhak anxiously. He notices you and your confusion, and smiles, pausing the video.
"Watch me," he says, facing the back of the room. He demonstrates the dance step by step as you watch, copying him. "Step back so your feet are about this far apart. Good, turn your body like this--" He ducks down, twists his body and turns to face the front. "--stretch your right arm up like this, then pull it back, like a retreating wave. Here, you'll turn your whole body like this, leading with your arm. Follow your arm through a full spin so you're facing the corner. Then stop."
You watch him do it again, listening to him sing along, before trying it yourself. You pause multiple times, trying to remember the dance that was just demonstrated to you twice, and thankfully Geonhak gently reminds you of the steps, singing the song between the instructions.
"There you go, Y/N. Right arm up," he says encouragingly. You must look ridiculous, going so slowly and clumsily, but nothing he does or says even suggests that he thinks so.
After you've finished, he steps back into his spot next to you.
"Let's do it together," he says, facing the back right corner of the room. You copy his stance, facing the corner with your back to the mirror.
He dances slowly, stepping with his right foot backward, and waits for you to do the same before twisting his body to face the front of the room. He waits for you to do the move before continuing.
Tumblr media
After three hours of dancing--including a twenty minute break in the middle, during which the two of you spent buying and eating snacks from a vending machine down the hall--you and Geonhak end the practice by stretching, so as not to hurt yourself by pulling something later, and to let your body and muscles cool down.
"Did you enjoy your first day of practice?" Geonhak asks, hopeful. You can tell he wants to hear how good his teaching is. Not necessarily because he wants to hear that he's good, but because he wants to hear how he's doing.
"I did. We got through more than half of the song, which is far better than what I started the day with," you say.
"You did well today," he says shyly, his eyes not meeting yours, but you can see him smiling.
"You did well too," you say. "Thank you for teaching me, Geonhak. You were really helpful with teaching me."
He smiles proudly. "How about to celebrate, we go get some ice cream? After stretching."
You nod, smiling. You haven't had ice cream in a while. Not because ice cream isn't good, but because you're so busy and you never have enough time.
You finish up stretching, grab your bag, and head to the bathroom to change back into your casual clothes. You understand what the trainee was talking about, now. You're sweating through your workout clothes, and the summer warmth would be so uncomfortable to walk in with them on. Your shirt would probably stick to you with sweat. You internally thank that trainee for telling you about changing clothes, and promise to thank them if you ever see them again
When you exit the bathroom, Geonhak is standing in the RBW lobby waiting. He's also changed his clothes, and is now wearing a black baseball hat and torn jeans with a white T-shirt beneath an unbuttoned plaid button-up.
You walk to Baskin-Robbins. Geonhak gets his favorite--Rainbow Sherbet ice cream, just like you'd told Hwanwoong and Dongju he'd liked--get your favorite. Just as you're about to pay for your ice cream, Geonhak stops you.
"I'll pay," he murmurs. You frown at him in surprise.
"What? Geonhak, it's alright, I can pay for myself."
"Please let me pay," he says. "I suggested getting ice cream."
"I'm not gonna make you pay for me after you've been helping me dance. In fact, I should pay for yours as thanks."
"Y/N," Geonhak says sternly, and your eyes meet his, beneath his baseball cap. He looks so serious, over a little matter of ice cream. "You're not making me pay. I'm asking you to let me. Please let me pay for your ice cream."
After a moment of him staring into your eyes, you give in, and reluctantly let Geonhak pay for both ice creams. "Only if I can pay next time," you say. He sighs and, laughing, he agrees.
You walk together down the street, nearly shoulder to shoulder as you eat your ice cream. You can tell from the smile on Geonhak's face that he's really enjoying his ice cream.
Hm. I'll make sure to tell Hwanwoong and Dongju that for party plans.
You've been texting back and forth with Hwanwoong and Dongju, planning for what Geonhak might like. The three of you had decided that, even though Geonhak's favorite color is black, you will not be painting the entire room black, as Dongju had suggested. This is a birthday celebration, not a funeral. You three decided that the theme for decorations will be silver balloons with silver, gold and black streamers. You'd get a white cake with Geonhak's name and age written on the top in silver and gold frosting and a black outline. You even designed the cake on a piece of paper.
The idea is simple. You might do a random play dance competition between the seven of you, or a Guess-The-Song competition, but other than the fun games you have listed, it's still a very simple party. But you're still confident in it.
"So what did Dongju call you over for the other day?" Geonhak asks, bringing you away from your thoughts.
"Huh?" It takes you a moment to register what he just asked, and you answer before he can ask again. "Oh, uh. Nothing important. Why? Did you ask him?"
"I did ask him. He also said nothing. Which makes me more concerned."
"He wanted me to come over and play video games with him and Hwanwoong," you lie. You can't tell him you're planning a surprise party for him. Then it wouldn't be a surprise.
"Oh. Him and Hwanwoong?" Geonhak asks, visibly stiffening. You nod.
"Yes. What, are you worried I'm gonna ask Hwanwoong to teach me to dance instead of you?" you ask, and Geonhak's eyes widen in surprise. Almost as if he's offended.
"What? No, of course not."
You laugh, eating more of your ice cream. "Don't worry,  I'm only teasing. Besides, even if I could ask Hwanwoong to teach me, I don't know why I would ask him now. I have you, Mr. Kim Geonhak. I'm glad to have you as my friend and dance teacher."
He smiles, and you can see his body relax at your words. "Good," he says. "I'm glad to have you as my friend and dance student."
