synopsis: seungmin as your boyfriend who just wants to cuddle but is too shy to say it.

a/n: writer’s block is a bitch so i decided to finish up this seungmin drabble. anw live laugh seungmin

seungmin was never big on affection, especially with physical touch. it’s not that he was uncomfortable, per say, he just didn’t see the appeal in it. sure, he wouldn’t mind holding hands with you or kissing your cheek goodbye, but he would much rather show his love through acts of service.

you seem to agree with him too as you only ever hug or kiss him occasionally. so imagine his surprise when he caught himself suddenly longing for your touch during a random friday night.

it was one of your weekly movie nights where you both watch the cheesiest romance movies you could possibly find on the internet and make fun of it. it was nothing special, really.

except you were looking extra adorable tonight with the blanket wrapped tightly around your body that seungmin couldn’t help but stare. are you wearing makeup? is it because of the hoodie you stole from him earlier that makes you look so small he wants to absolutely cuddle you to death? or are you doing this on purpose just to drive him insane?

“oh my god they’re so stupid! it’s so obvious they like each other— ugh why do they keep denying it?” you huff in annoyance, cheeks puffed out in the process. this snaps seungmin out of his delusional thoughts of you and he glances at you, watching as you angrily cuss out the main characters on the screen. he so badly wants to pinch your cheek, maybe even kiss you. if only he was bold enough to do so. you would definitely think something was wrong with him if he did that. yes you were dating but seungmin was always known to not be the first one to initiate physical touch, he wasn’t about to ruin his reputation now.

you don’t notice that your boyfriend was not paying attention to the movie anymore, but you do notice his lack of response to your comment. you shift your head to face him, only to see that he was already staring intensely at you. you’ve never seen seungmin stare at you so intently that it’s making you nervous, already feeling the heat rise up to your neck.

“uhm—min are you alright?” always with that damn nickname. seungmin felt his heart skip a bit, and he quickly looked away from you, not wanting you to witness his flushed cheeks.

he was sure you caught a glimpse of it regardless, but luckily for him (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it), you are about as dense as a rock when it comes to him. thinking back to all the times you’ve unknowingly made him flustered, he felt that it was unfair that you had such an effect on him, yet you seem to be already used to his presence.

all of a sudden the little space that was between you both vanished, as if there had been no gap in the first place. seungmin grabs the blanket you had wrapped around you and places it around him as well, making it so you are now sharing it. this startles you. you’ve cuddled before, as rarely enough as it is, but this was different. a good kind of different because this time, it was him who did the first move.

you know he’s not fond of physical affection, so you welcome this rare opportunity of him being intimate with literal open arms and slowly wrap them around his waist.

“is something wrong, min?” you ask gently. the shitty movie is no longer a source of entertainment but rather just background noise now as you bury your face further on seungmin’s shirt.

he hopes you don’t notice the abrupt increase of his heart rate just because of that one simple action.

seungmin clears his throat, feeling shy despite the fact that he should be used to this now. “nothing’s wrong. i was just a little cold, don’t worry.”

”oh? then you should've said so earlier! i was hogging the blanket all by myself.” your eyes held guilt and although he felt bad for lying, he couldn’t control the slight giggle he let out. you were just too cute in his eyes.

”you looked like a perfectly shaped burrito, i didn’t want to ruin it.” seungmin teases, pinching your cheek as your frown deepens even further, but your eyes no longer carry guilt in them. instead they soften as you continue to hold eye contact.

you realise then how long his bangs have gotten, with it almost covering his eyes. so you reach over to move it away, before swiftly stealing a kiss in the process.

you pull away giggling and quickly went back to rest your head on his chest. you weren’t able to see seungmin’s expression, but knowing him, in spite of his nonchalant attitude, you were sure it had affected him.

and you were right. as soon as it registered in his brain what happened, seungmin felt the warmth in his cheeks spread all the way to his ears. he had not expected it at all. this was like his first date with you all over again.

”i know you just wanted to cuddle, but since you’re so cute i’ll let it slide.”

seungmin was never one for physical affection, but he thinks he could get used to this.

“how about this one?” seungmin pointed to one of the bottles on the sink. “what is it for?” he mumbled sleepily and you smiled, putting on your headband.

“it helps to moisturise my face.” he let out a little oh at your response, making you giggle. you stood in front of the mirror, putting some baby hair under the headband, and seungmin took the opportunity to stand behind you and lazily wrap his arms around your waist. he placed his head on your shoulder and glimpsed at your reflection.

“you look funny,” he mumbled, trying to suppress a yawn.

“you mean the headband?” you asked softly, smiling as he hummed and closed his eyes. “i know, it looks quite ridiculous.”

“but i like how you look with it on your head. It makes you look very soft,” he added, not daring to open his eyes. you observed him in the mirror for a few seconds, your heart going thump thump as his grip on your waist tightened.

it wasn’t like seungmin to be overly affectionate with you. he always tried to keep his mysterious, cold demeanour around people, acting as if he didn’t care about anything and anyone. at first it made you self conscious, you worried he might not like you, but soon after you realised he was just scared to open up, to let himself be vulnerable, you promised yourself to be the person who makes him feel safe.

“are you falling asleep?” you whispered, rubbing some cleansing foam on your cheeks. seungmin yawned loudly, adjusting his chin on your shoulder.

“no…” he mumbled back, clearly jumping back and forth between sleep and consciousness. you giggled at his reflection in the mirror.

“i’m almost done, just gonna put on some moisturiser.”

“can i do it?” seungmin asked sleepily and you turned your head to look at him. he opened his puffy eyes and straightened his back, letting out yet another yawn. you nodded when he looked at you with raised eyebrows and handed him the little bottle. he opened it, squeezing some of the cream onto his palm as you sat on the counter.

seungmin’s fingers were gentle on your face, delicately rubbing the moisturiser on your cheeks and forehead. he was thorough with his actions, making sure he put the product evenly.

“you’re so beautiful,” he whispered as his fingers brushed your neck and cleavage. it took you off guard, your cheeks growing warm as his words seeped into your brain. “and i mean it.” he looked you deeply in the eyes as he finished your skincare routine, bringing his hands to slowly take your headband off, making sure to push all of your hair back so it won’t stick to your freshly washed face.

you wrapped your arms around his neck and brought him for a soft, sleepy kiss. he embraced you as well, clinging to you as close as he possibly could, and it was one of those moments when seungmin let you see how full of love he really was - especially when it came to you.

A/N : slowly but surely making my way through requests! I got an offer for a job interview (at the time that I was writing this, I'm sure that I'll post about it before this comes out though) I'm so excited though!!

“I want to take you on a date…” Seungmin muttered through the phone, his voice quiet as if he were trying to hide it from the other guys that he was the sweetest, cutest, softest boyfriend in the whole world. “I’ll pick you up tonight. Make sure you bring a jacket, it’s cold.” He finished the call rather swiftly, and you were used to calls going like this, it made it easier for you, especially since you couldn’t get enough of his voice and your mind would always go fuzzy whenever you listened to him.

As soon as you were sure that the call had ended and the line was disconnected, you allowed yourself a moment to let out a squeal of excitement, clutching your phone to your chest and jumping around in the center of your apartment. Some people would say that you were overly excited considering he and you had been dating for 3 months already, but you on the other hand found no issue in feeling like every date was like the first date. It just meant that you liked him, and you hoped that he felt the same way.

“Dinner was nice, thank you.” You whispered as you walked beside Seungmin. The sidewalks were busy, lined with other couples who had the same idea. You kept close to him though, your fingers practically brushing along one anothers, but they never latched together.

“Mmhm…” He hummed back, glancing down at you and then straight forward once again. Sometimes it felt like he was getting tired or bored, but you’d calm that thought just as fast as it appeared, reminding yourself constantly that he chose you, and if he didn’t truly enjoy being with you he could leave whenever he wanted. “Are you cold?” He asked when he felt your body shiver, a particularly strong gust of wind making its way through the fabric of your coat. “We can get hot cocoa?”

“Mm… I’d like that.” You smiled sweetly up at him, unaware that he had been looking down at you again until your eyes met, and you saw the blush on his cheeks darken, although you were sure he’d blame it on the chill.

Seungmin nodded, leading the way to the cafe, making sure to still stay close to you though as the streets seemed to become more and more crowded. “Do you want to sit inside?” He asked when you both finally got to the small building, which hadn’t been that far, but in the sea of people it seemed to take forever to get there.

“Yes, please.” Your voice was so soft, he had to lean in closer just to hear you, the proximity had you both heating up and Seungmin quickly pulling away as he obviously tried to hide the smile that was pulling at the corners of his lips. “I can order the drinks while you find a table?” You offered, but he shook his head, sending you a knowing smile.

“I invited you on this date, I’m paying for the drinks. Go find the table.” He motioned towards the empty booth at the back of the cafe, and if there was one thing you knew, it was to not try to argue against him, you’d never win. It wasn’t from personal experience, but the other guys had filled your ears with many stories. So you made your way over, shimmying out of your coat and playing it beside you before sliding into the booth and watching Seungmin make his way up to the counter.

As he made his way over to the table, you could see that his eyes weren’t on you, not that you minded, you didn’t want him staring at you, but it’s like his focus was on something else completely. When you followed the direction of his gaze, you saw that it was perfectly pointed at a girl at the table that was right beside yours. She was gorgeous, and while you weren’t usually the type to be self conscious, you couldn’t help but feel that way when you looked at her. She was there with her boyfriend, but Seungmin was definitely one of the most attractive guys you had found yourself lucky to date. That and he was an idol, you were sure that if given the opportunity, any woman would jump at the chance to be with him.

“Be careful… It’s hot…” He said a little too quietly, it was more like a mumble, like his mind was stuck in some faraway land while his body was unfortunately at the table in this cafe with you. It felt like he was uninterested, he might as well just pull out his eyes and place them at the table with the other girl since he couldn’t seem to look away from her.

“I can go…” You mumbled, your head lowering to try to hide the embarrassment that you knew was clearly written across your face. Truthfully, you didn’t want it to be a suggestion, you wanted to leave. There was no one in their right mind that would enjoy sitting across the table from their significant other who couldn’t keep their eyes off someone else. Maybe this was his way of telling you that he wanted to see other people, he was just doing it in the most literal way possible.

“Huh?” He slowly turned to look at you, his head tilted to the side and his eyebrow’s furrowing. “Why?” The fact that he could still act so clueless, like he didn’t know the exact reason for you wanting to leave, was just a little bit agitating. “Do you want to go? I can walk you back to your place… I just thought that you’d want to spend a little longer together.” His eyes were now burning into the top of your head that had been lowered with embarrassment.

“I… I don’t want to spend time with someone who just wants to look at other women.” Your voice was quiet, far too quiet, and you wondered if Seungmin had even heard you over the music that was playing over the speakers. “If that’s what you want to do, fine… But… Don’t invite me out on a date and do it.” You hated how weak you sounded when you called him out, it definitely didn’t sound as strong as you wanted it to. You probably sounded just as pathetic as you felt right now.

There was a silence that filled the small bubble that seemed to surround the table that you both were sitting at. It was tension filled, and you felt queasy just from being in it a little bit too long. “What are you talking about?” He asked, trying to keep his voice as quiet as yours was, but his worrying had his voice cracking and rising in pitch, causing him to be louder than he wanted to be. “I’m… God, this is stupid…” He muttered, running his hand through his hair as he leaned back in his chair, his head tilted back far enough to stare up at the ceiling.

“It is stupid…” You agreed, grabbing your coat and folding it over your elbow as you got up from the table, unbothered by the nighttime chill that you knew would be just outside the cafe doors. You were already heated enough, you felt like you were sweating. “Enjoy the rest of your night, Seungmin.” You gave him the parting words, trying to sound unfazed, but the lump in your throat was building and it felt like your air was being choked off.

Seungmin wasn’t one to make a scene, and that’s the only reason he didn’t get up and grab your hand to pull you back. He wasn’t into PDA, he wasn’t one to really outwardly show his emotions in general, but watching you walk away had him panicking. “Dammit!” He hissed, grabbing both cups of hot cocoa and rushing out the door after you, trying his best not to spill them in the process. “Can you listen to me, please?”

He had caught up with you, it didn’t even take him long, he was far better at navigating through large groups of people than you were. Sadly, he had caught you at a moment when it had been just long enough for you to have started crying. “I don’t want to hear about how pretty she was. I know how pretty she was. I know that I can’t be her, and I’m sorry. I’m sorry that you have to be seen with me and not someone as gorgeous and perfect as she was.”

His eyes were blinking rapidly as he stared at you, his mouth agape, sharp breaths coming out in little tufts of smoke in the cold winter air. “Oh… No… No! That’s… You’re wrong.” He said, his head shaking as the words rushed out of his mouth. “I’m stupid… And I didn’t want to tell you because it’s embarrassing… I wanted you to think I was cool and… And I… I was looking because I wanted to know what to do.” Now it was your turn to be confused, your eyebrows lowering as you waited for him to explain further what the hell it was that he meant by that. “I’m not… good. I’m not good at dates, I’m not good at this…” He motioned between the two of you, sighing dejectedly, his entire body seeming to hunch forward with shame. “I just wanted to do it right… I thought if I watched them I could figure out how to make you smile and laugh and be happy the way she was with her boyfriend.”

“Minnie…” You whispered out the little pet name that always flustered him when you used it, and this time was no different, his cheeks once again turning a light shade of pink when you said it. “You don’t have to study how other couples are on their dates. You don’t have to be like other guys… If I wanted you to be like them, I would just be with them. I like being with you though, because you do make me happy and you make me laugh and you make me smile. You’re perfect… That’s why I was so worried… I don’t want to lose you…”

“And you won’t… You’re not.” He reassured you quickly, like his entire life depended on those words leaving his mouth and being heard by you. “I’m sorry I made you worry… I’m sorry I was so stupid… Can we continue our date now? I really wanted to spend more time with you… If you’d like. It’s up to you though.”

You wouldn’t have said this a month ago. Not in a chance, considering you and your loving boyfriend were stepping together into 2024.

Or. Well. You were going to.

Because when you turned around to face your boyfriend in midnight, he wasn’t there. You thought he was in his apartment, resting with a cold.

Oh, no.

He was a couple people behind you.

With someone else.

“Well, if it isn’t the queen of the party.” A low voice greeted cheekily.

You shoulders tensed up slowly.

“You shouldn’t smoke, you know.” You snickered, smiling politely at the silhouette that was leaning against the fence in the terrace.

That sentence you said was as empty as words could be.

Years after years, as someone who wasn’t really close to their family, the only moment you saw each of your close relatives was in events, like weddings and funerals. Or, in this case, New Years. Yet, for some reason, Kim Seungmin could —and would— always tag along.

Always next to your brother, Felix and him were attached to the hip. And, despite the fact that you had known him ever since you had memory, you needed that sentence, because it would secure a reaction in him.

He would roll his eyes. Like how he had done just now.

And usually, he would do that and go fetch your brother, dropping the ciggarette in the terrace of his shared appartment, stepping on it, staining the stone just slightly each time.

“Well, my grandmother got to live a hundred years.”

Huh? Your eyebrows shot up, almost innocently.

You fidgeted with your rings, hands gripping the fence in the terrace. As a seven-store building, you thought maybe you could focus on the small-looking mundane views.

Maybe like that, he’d go.

But he wasn’t leaving. He dared to get closer, in fact. And that shouldn’t be happening. You bit your lip. You needed to remember the one promise you had intended to keep.

Then your breath hitched, not only because his slender fingers brushed against your cheek, but because you remembered who you had promised that to. To that cheater ex-boyfriend of yours. And, cigarette in between his lips, pink and soft to the eye, Seungmin tucked a stray hair behind your ear, and you grasped the fence with force, your knuckles white.

“I can’t trust a man like that.” Your ex had said long ago, struggling to justify himself as to why you shouldn’t get too close to Seungmin. “He looks at you… differently.”

“You know how she did that? How she got to live up to a hundred?” The man in question asked in a low voice, tempting you to go forward, to break the unspoken promise of you not going close to each other.

“Smoking?” You muttered humourlessly, licking your lips, staring at his.

Seungmin snorted. “Oh, no, puppy.” Your entire body shivered. Blinking, slowly, not daring to believe what was happening before your eyes.

But it was real. And you knew it because Seungmin suddenly grasped your cheeks with one hand.

“Minding her own damn business.” He smirked, blowing the smoke on your face.

You started coughing, and hesitated as if to push him away and leave, slam the door close and celebrate New Year somewhere else instead of a party filled with friends of others.

“But I think,” he smiled slyly, bringing you back from your thoughts as he licked the small piercing in his lip. “I think you should try it.”

Your eyes widened at his words, your mind wandering away. Would the piercing be cold? How would it feel on his lips?

How would it feel against yours?

“S-smoking?” You let out in a huff, feeling heat creep up your body. He nodded.

“But…” doubt tinted his tone, his hand not leaving your chin, the grip uncomfortable at first but now relaxing against your skin.

Maybe it wouldn’t be so difficult to break that old promise.

Not when Kim Seungmin was related. And not when what you had promised meant not getting… acquainted with him.

After all, he had to make you regret it, right?

“Problem is… I only have this one.” He stated, waving the lit cigarette in his hand. “Unless… you don’t mind sharing.”

He had to make you regret that, for once, you had chosen that sad excuse of a man over him.

Your mind started to turn fuzzy, feeling Seungmin’s lean figure slowly cage you against the fence, his free hand sneakily heading to your waist, stroking down ever-so-slowly to your hip.

Biting your lip, you forced yourself to stop looking at his face, and threatened to burn marks on the necklace that creeped from between the top buttons of his black shirt.

Your cheeks heated up again.

“So, what’s it gonna be, huh?” He scoffed funnily, voice tinted with mockery. “Can a goody-two-shoes like you handle—“

But he stopped talking, because you took the cigarette from his hand and inhaled, siren eyes locked on his, who widened at the sight of you, eyebrows shot up, his features masking contentment.

He liked where this was going. He liked that you had broken the promise. He liked it when he heard that you had slapped your ex in front of everyone in the crowd. He liked how, right then and there, you grasped his face, your nails pressing crescent moons on his cheeks. Painful, but oh, so good.

And then, his breath tasted familiar. In the midst of the smoke you were passing to him, the mix of flavours crossing one mouth to another, exhaling and inhaling.

You backed off after, but he let out a soft grunt.

“Let me do that right.” Seungmin gulped messily, eyes red.

As if shotgunning hadn’t been enough, his right hand cradled your face, his left pushing himself tightly against you. His fingers traced the contour of your jaw, your breaths synchronized.

“Do it.” You panted, the effects of the certainly-not-tobacco substance reeling in your body, taking them in, making you light-headed. “Please, Seungmin, I—”

you hear the front door of your and seungmin’s apartment slam shut, signalling his arrival. the sound of shoes being thrown and a string of curses being followed after causes you to frown. you already know what that meant, another stressful day at work and another night of drinking.

you contemplate whether or not you should get out of bed and comfort your boyfriend, but you already know how it’s going to go. a never ending cycle of screaming, crying, then apologising, promising never to do it again.

still, you get up, albeit hesitant, and softly pry your bedroom door open. once you see seungmin in sight, you cautiously head over to him.

apologizes days in advance because he will be probably busy because of comeback deadlines

has flowers delivered for you multiple time throughout the day with little notes that say how much he loves you

spends two hours on a video call with you to make up for it

when you come home in the evening, there's a candlelit dinner waiting for you

chan is already there, taking off your coat like a gentleman

"i'm sorry i couldn't be with you today but i was preparing a surprise"

scared of both overdoing it and not doing enough

it's his first valentine's day with you, he needs to deliver

ends up taking you the the amusement park

insists on winning the biggest plushie for you

this soon turns into a competition

so now you're alone, anxiously watching the hour pass by while you run from stand to stand trying to win more plushies that jeongin will

when the time is up you meet again and compare your numbers

you won by the difference of two plushies

he complains about the amount of plushies and doesn’t know what to do with them
