How about I start the side blog with this post? If you are a fan of Osamu Tezuka you must know that he was friends with one of the greatest Brazilian comic artists, Mauricio de Sousa.
Tumblr media
I didn't see anywhere other than Brazilian sources commenting on this.
A few years ago MSP (Mauricio de Sousa Produções) was going to finish a story about the Amazon rainforest that Tezuka was writing but with his passing the manga is incomplete, but MSP never touched in the subject since, the project will probably never be completed, I believe it is in limbo.
Tumblr media
The only project with the Amazon rainforest that actually happened is the crossover between Turma da Mônica and the Tezuka characters.

These two are probably my favorite YouTube videos of all time because not only are they incredibly well researched pieces that have genuinely important things to say in regards to fact checking and citing your sources, but they both tear down years worth of bullshit in the most vicious way possible

While i think that cinemasins itself is boring, shallow and self-congratulatory, i am also annoyed with the sentiment that nit-picky videos add nothing to the conversation. Did we forget about the cultural reset of sherlock is garbage? Half the video essays i like are something being ripped to shreds by someone who is theoretically the target audience of it. As jenny nicholson said: "When you love something unconditionally, you don't love it more. You love it sadder." Let some righteous bitchiness back into your heart.

Osamu Tezuka Ikeda bread animated commercial (1983)
The giraffe character in the ad is the mascot for Ikeda bread company, who was designed by Osamu Tezuka. His name is Panky, a pun on Pan (Japanese word for bread) and Kirin (Japanese word for giraffe)

My green children are playing Rebels on this May the Fourth. I misplaced tiny Sabine's WESTAR-35 blasters a long time ago... he's telling big Sabine she has to share one of hers.

Various drawings from an “animatic” I was gonna make (was just putting TikTok audio on images LOL). It was based on that scene in the 60’s show where Hamegg nearly dies and Kimba saves him even though he’s brought him so much grief with yknow the whole killing his dad and selling his mom thing.. the audio goes like “And I was just thinking how could he not hate me? How could this guy not hate me? How could he not hate me?!” I was planning to add some flashbacks to Panja’s death and Eliza in the cage with infant Kimba, and Hamegg not being able to grasp how Kimba still saves his life even after all that.
I really wish these two got more interactions throughout all the adaptations. Ham is basically the catalyst for the whole story happening, and Kimba obviously has strong hatred towards him but this is never expanded upon. Oh well… be the change you wanna see in the world lmfao. I clearly didn’t get very far with this, I had looser sketches for the rest of the scenes but I still like how these look so here

The Kimba problem
What follows is a silly hypothetical dilemma which I've thought of as a result of watching Kimba the white lion(1965), though, other shows, such as the Lion King (you don't need to have watched either to understand) have made me consider it before, since, as we all know, the best source for such thoughts is putdated children's animation, anyway, here it is, hopefully it makes sense.
Imagine this scenario, you are the ruler of a small (population measuring in a couple thousand.) Kingdom, you are not tethered politically, and nothing short of a large scale revolt could deny your choices, in other words, your word is law, being you benevolent, or malevolent.
Though, your kingdom has a quirk, it's made up of animals a la Lion King or Kimba, in other words, your population is animals of all shapes or sizes, their only limit being that they must be able to conceivably live in the biome your kingdom is in, all animals (including fish) have human level sapience, and bugs either don't, or you simply can't comunicate with them, all animals can also speak a common language, but they still can succumb to animalistic urges, nad your level of advancement is very primitive in nearly all respects.
Your goals are to stay in power, create a society where your people are happy, or at least obediant, and, importantly, figure out how to feed carnivores
That final challange is what this all goes off of, how can you feasibly keep a kingdom made of predators and prey going, note, you can't just feed carnivores plants or bugs, and, unless you have some way to justify it, prey won't be happy being just hunted like in normal nature, or the Lion King.
You can choose your, AKA the hypothetical ruler's species, the terrain where your kingdom is, and most other traits of the kind, how do you do it?

Wow I mean did everyone else in this (Tezuka) fandom just... Ignore the pro colonialism theme of Kimba... or Kei from Blackjack having an incredibly transphobic backstory....
Tumblr media
I mean literally making transition out to be something done of shame or being forced...
(I haven't even touched on Two Shuchi's, another incredibly transphobic Blackjack chapter.)
Even as a Astro Boy fan I always am hesitant when I discover a new Tezuka work I didn't know about because it's either "This is gonna be really interesting and funny or incredibly awful."
If any of you guys see this ask just... Don't come after me and read some more Tezuka stuff it's really obvious. I don't really feel like hiding behind anon.
Appreciate the support. I'm just a weird robot who grew up with 2003 Astro Boy, read Metropolis as a teenager, and then got dragged through a group read of Atom: The Beginning, a few years later tripped over the Whaley hybrids paper while doing preliminary research on what to write my paper about, and went
'Wait, fuck. Wait. Fuck. WAIT. FUCK.'
Like, the realization that Metropolis has the same exact 'hybrids bad racial mixing bad gender mixing bad' themes hit me like a fucking bus.
Edit: A large blog reblogged this and made a response that makes it clear people are misinterpreting this post. Please consider the original context, and my response.
